#13 of The Chronicles of James Travant

Her alarm had not been set the night before as the night's events changed her normal boring routine and instead of the radio voice she was used to, the sunlight flickered in the living room and the soft singing of their finch roused her from her slumber upon James. She was started at first before last night's happenings flooded her memories again.

With a sigh of immense pleasure she leaned down kissing him upon the lips, hair cascading all around his head in a swift and soft motion. "Good Morning my love,"

A gentle mutter, an ear flick, and, after a moment, James' shining blue eyes opened to lock with hers.

"Good morning, pup." He replied quietly, tightening his embrace on her for a brief span. "I trust you slept well?"

Tanya smiled with a look of peace about her, "Aye. I slept soundly, thank you for staying with me." She looked at the clock, "I just rather not go into work is all."

She laid back down on him, relaxing into him again, pondering if she should fake being sick and call in. "Why, did you come back?"

"If I'd the choice, I never would have left in the first place, remember?" He smiled, giving her a short lap against her neck with his tongue.

"Would you like some breakfast? I know a place I can phone to deliver, or, if you wish, we can go for a drive and eat out."

She chuckled as his neck hit a slightly ticklish area. "I wouldn't mind going out before I have to seriously think about getting ready for work, or if I'm faking sick today. After all, we might as well get used to people looking."

She winked and sat up, still sitting on him and using her thigh muscles slid him out of her in a slow almost reluctant movement.

"...I can't believe how good you feel to me. I swear, I would kill to know what it feels like, to have a tail, ears, the senses,"

James murred softly as she lifted herself from him. "It's quite the show, actually, even now, it scares me just what I can smell and hear, and my senses were the first thing to elevate, so I've been with them for a good while."

He rolled to the edge of the bed and stood up, taking a moment to stretch himself.

"Murr, what a good morning, best I've felt in days."

Tanya laid on her back, bending her knees and tucking her legs back under her. Her stomach lifted into the air and arched high in a back bend that resulted in her back cracking with a soft groan of relief from the owner of the feminine body.

She settled back down and crawled over behind him, wrapping her arms around his neck and leaning her head on his shoulder.

"I hope nothing smells in my apartment then." She laughed softly, with a rhythmic purr in its tones. "I've got to admit it is the best I've had in weeks, I hate going to work and seeing others look upon me with no sympathy or concern for my well being. It was rather annoying when everyone asks you if you've found a new man to hang around with yet and stop holding back. I've missed having you around to talk to, come on. Lets get ready, and we'll need to feed your partner won't we, I bet he's waiting so patiently too."

She slipped off the bed and with a flirty touch she left the bedside and put on a silky robe over her naked flesh.

James smiled and grabbed his trousers, giving a sharp yip upon leaving her room, his partner immediately nosed open the inner door and trotted in, head high and tail flicking in happiness, Ronso didn't hesitate in barking out exactly what his master smelled like.

"Well, you try denying her then." He replied, grinning in Canine fashion at his partner as he pulled on his trousers and sniffed around, literally, for his boots.

Tanya looked to James upon his comment, "Ha, very funny. AS I recall, you seemed, quite eager to experience it as much as I," She winked and looked to Ronso, "Don't tell me you expect him to go without, while you go and have your own fun."

She bent down and gave a light scratch behind one of his ears as she passed him and went over to a corner of the room and picked up James' boots.

"Here, catch," She threw them to him and entered a different room that smelled of fabric softener and freshly cleaned clothing.

She left the door open a crack as she slipped the robe off her shoulders, the silky material flowing like water on her body as it fell to the floor. She picked up a black bra and slowly put it on, and her black long sleeved cotton blouse followed it, leaving it unbuttoned for the moment she slipped on some dark blue jeans and did them up while walking out of the room and rejoining James. She started doing up her blouse but stopped just above the cleavage line just enough to hide her bra, but not be inappropriate.

She walked over to the coffee table where her brush lay and picked it up running it through her soft hair until it shined with the natural light filtering in through the window of the living room.

"I'm ready whenever you are, love." She looked to the window, opening it a little more, "Where would you like to eat today?"

"It'll probably be O'Malley's, a couple blocks down, excellent breakfasts, and they allow Kaynine teams." He said, heading down the stairs. Tanya heard the front door open, followed by what was apparently the trunk of his cruiser, a moment later, both shut, and James came back up the steps to enter the house with a small bag (by comparison) on his shoulder.

"'S'cuse me a moment." He said with a smile, nudging Ronso on his way to the bathroom, where a few short minutes brought him back out into the living room in a pair of blue jeans with a collared short sleeve shirt.

"You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find Kaynine sizes in this area." He laughed, stepping back into his boots and buckling them down.

Tanya smirked, "Yeah, we don't get them much around here. Living here that is, so what would be the use, I don't know why this area seems to be less friendly towards them or something."

She shrugged bending down next to Ronso and petting him gently as she looked up to James, "O'Malley's sounds like an excellent place to head to. I think I'm getting attached to your partner."

She laughed getting up with a last rub of his left ear and walking over towards James, "But not as much as I'm attached to you," She leaned up and gave him a short kiss on the lips, her hand softly trailing along his hip across his stomach where it finally left contact with his body and fled back to her side, picking up her purse and heading to the door, "ready then?"

James gave another command yip to his partner and the trio headed outside to the front curb where his sleek EUPD K-9 Cruiser was parked.

"Ever fix that door?" Tanya asked with a smile.

"You'd be surprised." The Husky replied with a chuckle, opening both lambo doors with a flick of a pawtip across a sensor on the drivers door, he stepped aside to let his partner jump in before slipping behind the wheel himself, waiting only a moment for Tanya to situate herself before shutting the doors and turning over the engine with a smooth purr.

Tanya settled in and looked around at the interior, "Hmm, same ol' personality, that's for sure." She brushed her hand over the dash, and looked over her shoulder to Ronso with a smile.

After a moment she looked back, it was comforting to have Ronso around for some odd reason, her hand crossed the gap of the seat and landed on James' thigh as he started to drive over towards O'Malley's.

"I'm starving, We going to split the bill or have two separate ones, or will you finally let me pay," She laughed sparing a glance to him before they went back to the road ahead of them.

"None of the above, I'll be paying, cub." He laughed, turning the cruiser in a short U-turn and bumping it into the next gear.

"Then we'll decide if you're going to work or not."

She groaned but couldn't help but laugh. "Nope, you certainly haven't changed a bit." She gave a gentle squeeze on his thigh and looked at him in profile, noticing for once since she'd discovered it was him that he was distinctly different in appearance.

"I almost can't wait to see how people react to a Kaynine and a human being so, sociable. I am not even sure if it has been done in this area of town, people are rather set in their ways I'm afraid. Ha, I remember the last time we went to O'Malley's, what fun that was."

She smiled at the memory, it was a good one.

"Yeah, well, Kaynine or not, I am an officer of the EUPD and reserve the right to throw anyone in the doghouse brig for species prejudice." James grinned, taking an easy left to come onto Ash, where O'Malley's sat waiting for the inconspicuous couple.

She smiled, undoing her safety belt and leaned over to kiss him on the lips. "You are too good for me," She waited until the door opened and slid gracefully out of the cruiser.

She rounded the cruiser and as he stood there waiting for her to approach his side Ronso sat at his side, tail wagging in an impatience that made Tanya suddenly laugh. "Oh I think I'm going to enjoy life with you and your partner."

She walked right up to him and extended her arm towards the restaurant. "Shall we enter the establishment and proceed to stuff our faces? Or, err, muzzles in some cases,"

She chuckled and without a second thought slid her hand gently between his bigger paw-like hand.

James' ears flicked at the touch of her hand within his, but he didn't release it until they reached the door, which he then let her hand fall from his as he reached up and drew the door open, propping it open with one boot to allow both his partner and lover through the door.

As they stepped inside, the Kaynine busied himself by taking her jacket and addressing the waiter to have a table for two with room for his partner.

Tanya smiled graciously and let him take her jacket, it made her feel good that this sign of courting was a sign that he wasn't ashamed of her, or of himself with her. She followed the waiter as he started to lead them towards the free table, even though she felt eyes watching them on and off.

She slowed to be closer to James as they walked, she wasn't about to be pushed around by people's ignorance. She sat down with James' polite gentleman help, before he and Ronso settled into their own places. The waiter set down their menus and left with the fleeting promise of his return when they were ready to tell him what they wanted. Her eyes flickered up from busying herself with the menu to James as soon as the waiter left. "So what are you in the mood for?"

"Steak, or something similar." James grinned, his icy eyes scanning the menu quickly. "As different as I am, I am still a dog." He added with a wolfish grin.

His demeanor was somewhat different, perhaps more professional, his attraction to her was still there, but kept dutifully in check, although, at times, it must have been obvious to the woman how difficult it was to him to be so.

He kept his paws to himself above the table, speaking amiably and in the normal friendly tones of a Kaynine, to anyone observing the two, it would appear as if they were professional friends, perhaps both working in the Doghouse.

James preferred to keep it that way, although Tanya did notice he flick his ear in a certain way to his partner, and, when Ronso shifted his stocky body somewhat at the edge of the booth, she felt the warmth of James's tail suddenly encircle her waist.

Tanya seemed to look slightly taken by surprise as her eyes slightly widened but her entire body relaxed and her eyes met his with a look of acknowledgement and appreciation.

"Steak sounds nice, actually. Hmm, but I seem to be leaning more toward chicken, isn't it odd how I feel like lunch food rather than breakfast. Maybe it is because I really don't eat breakfast much; therefore what is interesting my stomach is, strangely enough, why not, I'll have Chicken Parmesan..." A faint blush crossed her cheeks and she smiled to Ronso.

"So what is he having." Her blush faded and her eyes flickered up to meet James' eyes again only for a moment distracting the illusion that they were professional coworkers. She brought her hand down under the tablecloth and gently stroked his tail, with a soft remarking smile but shifted her body to lean down and pick up her purse and pretend that that movement had an actual purpose. She fiddled for something in her purse, it was her cell phone. "Made a decision yet?" Her grin was slightly devious, but enjoyable.

"Sure enough." James replied as his tail brushed against her thigh. "I'll be getting the steak and vegetables..." He turned to his partner and issued a low bark, more of a "woof" than anything else. Ronso's ears immediately perked and his tail thumped the ground, he replying with a drawn out bark, somewhat of a half-howl. James nodded once and turned his eyes back to the menu. "Seems he takes to chicken too."

He lifted a paw and spun one digit in the air, summoning the waiter.

She laughed and reached over to scratch behind Ronso's ear, "Good choice, I'd agree. Are things different at work now, since everything occurred? I'd imagine that you are more on the front line of things, since you're a Kaynine,"

She slightly cringed at the thought, not on the surface but her thigh had tensed and her stomach hardened at the thought of the potential dangers he now could face. She lifted her leg up, brushing the soft flesh of her calf against his furred leg, her eyes briefly closing at the contact, it made her feel secure.

The waiter came and James rattled off their orders before turning back to her.

"Yeah, it's a bit different, as a EUPD officer, I generally pulled outer cordon security while the Kaynines went in to clean up whatever it was they were called out to do, it's true that Kaynines are the premier force that the EU has for containing the Bladewielders, but that's only because the Kaynines are the most hardcore. We're not mandated to fight Bladewielders, we're just the best equipped to do it." He smiled. "Think of us as a big, furry SWAT team."

"I can vouch for that, the big and furry part anyhow; I've never seen you fight so I wouldn't know. I've seen the aftermath of a fight though," She laughed and gave his leg one last stroke of her's before planting her foot on the ground again.

She looked to Ronso, and turned back to James as her hand casually and in a very comfortable and natural movement went to pet his partner, softly and lovingly, she was getting attached already even if she didn't notice it.

"I hope you never have to see me fight." He said honestly as their drinks arrived.

"They put me through combat drills at the Doghouse, as well as set me loose on a drone class that wandered into the Pen, the instructors said they'd never seen a new Kaynine so feral. I frightened them."

He sighed and sipped the drink in his paw. "Seeing what I did to the drone, I sacred myself."

She let out an amused laugh. "You are a natural Kaynine, the way I see it. I pray that I never have to see you fight either, I would only be in the way anyhow."

She took her drink and took a small gulp of it, savoring the coolness of it surround her throat. "Was it frightening, waking up to having fur, paws and a tail?" Her tone was interested even though there was a chuckle at the end. "I envy you."

"Actually, to tell the truth, it was the best morning I'd had in my life." He chuckled. "I felt so natural waking up like that, was just another pleasant morning. Despite me being awed beyond words."

He smiled as their food was delivered.

"A quick orientation course, and I was good to go, hardest part was learning to balance with a tail."

"Ha, I can only imagine. Maybe one day it will be open to the public, then I can find out what it is like." She looked to James once before down to the plate in front of her. She picked up the fork and knife and cut a piece off, politely placing it in her mouth and chewing it, swallowing before talking again.

"Are, things going to be different between us?"

"That's largely up to you." The Kaynine said, forking a muzzle full of steak in.

"You've obviously proven that we're compatible physically, and, although furry, I'm still the same person inside."

"I am willing to put aside our outer differences, no, not put aside, cherish and revel in them. We also can't listen to what others think or say, I don't want to live that way, and I'm not ashamed to be with you, quite the opposite, I'm proud to be with you. Yet, if you are so inclined, we will be a secret, and merely friends to the public."

She cut a slightly larger piece and fit her lips around it, and started chewing although closed, looking to Ronso with a small mouthful, lips closed smirk.

"For now, we'll be as we are. We Kaynines are still just too new, even the Alleykatz are too new." James sighed and forked another mouthful in.

"Alleykatz?" She asked.

"I don't quite know where they came from, they're rare to see, but they're pretty much feline anthros." He glanced out the window as a EUPD cruiser rolled past.

"I've never seen one yet, they may just stick to themselves, as far as I've heard, they're all female."

Her attention was perked and she seemed to wonder about it for a while. "Interesting, really. If I ever saw one, I'd hope it was under good circumstances, I'd love to ask them questions and well make friends. As far as I'm concerned, Kaynines and if I ever get to see one, Alleykatz are amazing, and a thing to be interested and friendly towards. Not shunning or fearing them because they are new, it's just immature how people react."

She reached out and pet Ronso on his side. "Enjoying your meal, buddy?" She grinned wide, "And what's your decision for my condition, Officer, am I bed ridden with a violent illness?"

James grinned. "Nah." He said, forking in another bite. "Just missing someone who never really left."

His phone chirped and he dug into his pocket for it, after checking the ID, he flipped it open and tilted an ear towards it while speaking. "Travant."

"That the lady friend of yours?" 'Aces' Raynes laughed into his headset, one large, tan-furred paw adjusting the cam that was currently watching the Husky through the diner window.

"She's pretty."

James leaned over to the window and looked up, easily spotting the light scouter hovering above the building roof and the German Shepard piloting it. James gave him the finger.

Raynes laughed as he took hold of the controls again. "Take care buddy; I'll see you at work come Tuesday."

James chuckled and flipped the phone shut as the building vibrated somewhat with the engine back blast as the scouter took off.

Tanya cocked an eyebrow, "Friend of yours I take it, on the phone too?"

She cut her food up some more and ate every last bite, occasionally taking a small drink. "It's good today. I needed that, thank you. Got anything you have planned today?"

James swiveled his ears around to ensure nobody was close enough to hear.

"Oh, nothing in particular, perhaps I could show you how it is that a Kaynine mates his femme." he said it with such nonchalance, as if discussing the weather.

It took her by surprise how forward and calm he was about the subject, a soft smile rising to the corner of her lips. "Yes, perhaps. I would enjoy that, do you need any civilian clothing, for your new skin? Maybe we could do that together, or just take Ronso here to the park, I haven't been on a swing in ages."

She winked, she already liked his company, and Ronso just seemed, somehow a part of James, and he was so loyal to him.

Her eyes looked to Ronso, "So do I have the approval from you, to see him?" She chuckled, scratching his neck gently.

Ronso murred, then gave her a single yip before returning to his plate. James chuckled and stopped eating to take a drink.

"They gave me a few outfits, but not many stores carry Kaynine sizes yet, although the park sounds a wonderful idea."

They completed their dinner in short order and, after James paying for it, exited the diner and soon found themselves at the nearby central park.

James opened his door and flipped his seat forward before crossing around and opening Tanya's door as Ronso jumped out and sprinted into the grassy park, barking happily.

James smiled both at his partner's antics and Tanya as he closed both doors and escorted her into the park. The young woman noticed him take a quick look around to make sure nobody was there before his paw captured her hand and tail encircled her waist.

Tanya smiled, leaning slightly against him as they walked, feeling so secure in his arms, there was no mistaking this feeling of love for him. She however was completely at ease with this, the idea of them being so different seemed like a distant thought others only possessed.

"Thank you for dinner, love. It was great, and I find myself relieved that your partner accepts that I love you, and that I am your mate, for lack of a better term. Maybe I could take some of your older clothing and tailor them to fit you better, it's worth a try."

"We'll see. I'm okay for now though, blue jeans work with anything." He replied with a smile, leading her slowly to the swings as Ronso ran about.

"C'mon, hop in." He said, releasing her to settle into the swing as he moved around behind her, when she settled in fully, he gave her a gentle push.

She gave what sounded something like a chuckling purr and held onto the cool chains as he pushed her. "I've not been pushed on a swing since I was a kid. Amazing how it still brings that sense of calm and excitement after all the years past and growing up I've done."

She looked back to James, and smiled brightly. "Playing the romantic gentleman, aw, come on, swing along beside me. Ronso seems to be enjoying himself, despite us."

The Husky chuckled in reply. "No thank you, I haven't been on a swing since I was 6 and I'll keep it that way, besides, I've gained a bit of weight recently."

He lifted his paws as she came back towards him and gave her another gentle push.

"I've always been the one pushing, anyway." He said with a warm smile on his muzzle.

Her smile grew to a smirk, "Ha, not always, husky boy." She gave a slight giggle and leaned back as her head turned to look at him.

"What are you afraid someone will see you on the swing or that it'll break? If 600 pound fat men can try their hand at swinging on swings without them breaking I'm sure that it won't be an issue for you."

She poked him as she came back and hummed in satisfaction. "Higher!" She grinned playfully, as she turned back to look at Ronso sniffing and tracking a squirrel around a tree.

James laughed. "Much higher and I'll be wrapping you around the crossbar!"

He gave her a more vigorous push, sending her faster and higher as requested.

"So, what's your real opinion of me, then?" He asked as she swung back to him and was sent away by his waiting paws.

She thought about is question for a quick second before turning around as best she could and looking at him, locking eyes or brief periods o time as she continued to be pushed

"How do you mean? If you mean to how I feel about me, I hope I'm not too bold in saying I love you. In how I see your new form, it's quite alluring actually. It seems to me like we have a lot to explore and experience, but you are still the man I fell for, James. A new name and a new body cannot change that. You came back to me, and that is saying something about you. I see your difference in skin as something to cherish not be afraid of or to give up the love I've formed for you. Was that how you meant, James?"

James smiled warmly, pushing her again as she came back to him. "...Sure was."

The rest of their afternoon passed with comfortable small talk. Ronso, in all his energy, providing much in the way of entertainment as he went about chasing squirrels and fireflies as they began to appear, soon enough, the sun was beginning to set as the Husky sat with his lover on one of the park benches around the central monument to one of the EU forefathers.

James smiled, giving Tanya a gentle kiss as he stood and stretched, calling to his partner, he quietly escorted both from the park and back to her home, where he would spend the rest of the week, until it was time for him and her to return to work fully.
