- The Second Day
Corporal Thorn awoke from a restless sleep just before dawn to an very pleasant and strong musk nutmeg like smell and had to suppress a moan caused by the most severe case of morning wood he had ever had. Before he could try and adjust his pants into a comfortable position he heard strange and almost familiar sound come from where Feih had gone to sleep. He activated his visor's night vision, turned his head as slow as possible until he beheld a sight that stunned him.
Feih was nude (her suit was laid out on the ground next to her) and had in the grip of her right hand something long and thick that she stroked at a fast rate while her other hand fondled her right breast while she panted and moaned with the top of her head pressed against the tree on which she had fallen asleep.
He could have relaxed when his eyes focused and saw that it was one of her twin tails that she had hold of when the other thrashed against the ground, but didn't because of where it was directed and moaned out a word that his translator interpreted as "He's..." then groaned, shoved it deeper into her body and shivered.
His member throbbed so hard when the wind shifted and blew her scent into his face that it pained him.
She stifled a cry that would have awoken him if he had still been asleep then, with her eyes still closed, she turned her head in his direction.
He spun as fast and as he could back into his original position and prayed that she had not seen that he was spying on her. His hopes faded when he heard the rustle of leaves that indicated that she may have gotten up.
He tried to slow his breathing and heart rate but his concentration failed him when her musk became so strong that it blocked out all else. Instead of becoming panicked when he felt her breath on the back of his neck he became calmer than he had ever been in his life and, with a mental command, started the countdown for the self destruct of his weapon's power packs.
Seconds later her breath was gone and her scent had become weak. Puzzled as to why he hadn't been attacked he paused the countdown and remained motionless. After a full minute his curiosity overcame his fear and he turned back to look in her direction; both Feih and her suit were gone.
He breathed a sigh of relief and put on his helmet, made a promise to himself not to take it off again, checked for her location and found that she was about thirty meters away and motionless. Somewhat satisfied that he was safe for the time being he brought his attention to the tent in his pants. He was still very hard and felt like he was not going to become soft anytime soon. With no intention of doing what Feih had done to relieve any sexual tension she may have had, maybe, he thought, "She must be missing her mate," and did his best to get into a position that would not further stimulate him. He wound up in a fetal curl, but before he closed his eyes he wondered if it was just the sight of her beautiful body that had caused his "problem" or was her scent to blame or both. Just the thought caused it to throb one last time before he closed his eyes and fell into a fitful sleep.
It was only a few minutes past dawn when he awoke and used his sensors to check on Feih's location. When he found her in the same position as she was when he fell asleep he rose as silently as possible and, with the intent of finding someplace a safe distance away where he could take care of all of his personal needs, picked up his collapsible shovel and headed in the opposite direction.
He had reached his destination, a secluded spot not too far away from where he had slept, when his sensors detected several targets too small to be Dorzeli moving toward him at high speed from all sides except his rear. He concluded that they had to be the Virze, turned to run, but was cut off by the largest big cat he had ever seen. The tawny brown striped feline, which stood taller than a male African lion, growled, exposed its short saber-like canines and moved toward him. Matt drew his knife with his free hand then smiled when he saw that his attempt at defense was unnecessary. Warning calls from the other Virze came too late for their leader.
It cried out in pain as it was hauled into the air by its tail. Feih turned the struggling creature around so that they met face to face, hissed at it, and then threw it so that it landed among the others.
The male, as Matt had noticed when it passed over his head, landed on his feet, turned and vocalized at her with a series of vicious growls and she responded in kind.
Matt realized that whatever she had said had not succeeded in making the cats back down when they regained whatever courage they had lost and began to move toward them as a single unit.
Feih rushed forward, and as she had done the previous day when she trapped him, went onto all fours, except this time her body was directly above him; her abdomen just grazed the top of his head. She then gave off the most threatening growl Matt had yet to hear from her.
He watched, as best he could past her now clothed bosom, which hung so low before him that he only saw the paws of the Virze in front of them when as they backed away, then turned and re-enter the forest. Their leader gave both of them an angry look before his followed his brethren.
Matt put his knife away and held the blade of his shovel in front of him when he turned around and she simultaneously backed into a sitting position from which she could look down at him.
"Those adolescent Virze should've known better than that," snorted Feih in disgust. "Unlike Daihas, you would've been right about them; this war has driven a lot of their normal prey out of this area so they're starting to become desperate, otherwise, they never would've tried for you with me so close."
Still somewhat shaken from the experience he said, "Thank you, you've saved my life for the second time in two days."
She smiled. "For you I'd do almost anything, but in the future if you need help with anything let me know." She grinned and fixed her eyes on his shovel.
He could not help but smile at a thought that had crossed his mind then he dismissed it. "I don't think you could've helped me with the reason I came out here."
A momentary look of confusion on her face was replaced by one of understanding; "Oh, I see." See inhaled then said, "But if there's anything else I can do for you let me know when you're finished." With a grin still on her face she turned and walked back to their campsite.
He watched the sway of her rear and tails and wondered if she had noticed his condition from the previous night or just then as it had returned with a vengeance; "Did she just hover over me more for my benefit rather than trying to protect me?" he thought. He shook his head in bewilderment, "Why would she do something so...provocative?" Then he realized that her sense of smell had to be much greater than his, or possibly, even a dog's. Could it be that she knew of his condition and was offering? He checked himself and tried to purge the memories of the dreams he had had, but when they and their effects on his body refused to go away he set to digging in hopes that concentrating on that task would help. It did not, which left him with only one choice and the hope that she would not soon return to see why he had taken so long.
Feih was looked in his direction upon his return almost twenty minutes later. "You took so long I was starting to become worried."
"I've always had some...difficulties when under stress and I had to be sure those cats weren't going to come back." He bent down to pick up his pack.
"They won't return" said Feih with an air of confidence.
Matt stood up and asked, "What did you say to them?"
After an awkward moment of silence she answered, "I reminded them about the agreement our peoples have about situations like this." He waited for her to elaborate further, but instead she stood and waved for him to follow her. "We should leave now so we can meet your people on time."
He speculated as to why she had hesitated before she answered him. Was it about an agreement about not stealing another's prey or was it something else? Although this renewed his worries about her plans for him he had to admit that he did feel better about her presence than the previous day and followed her back into the forest.
The rest of the morning's walk picked up from where the previous evening had left off, with Matt following Feih at a comfortable distance, but unlike the silence that had existed between them during most of that walk she often asked about Earth and the war with the Soriss.
He wanted to tell her as little as he could without deliberately lying to her so he focused upon himself. "I joined the defense forces to stop the Soriss from trying to invade Earth again; we lost over two million people during their last attempt so our leaders and Supreme Commander Jason Monroe-Talbot decided to take the war to them."
"That's a worthy strategy" She turned her head and glanced down at him. "What do you know about your leader?"
He became slightly suspicious of her reason for wanting to know this as she had already told him that she knew of his position in the hierarchy of Earth's command structure. "I thought you already knew about him?"
She did not seem to be fazed by his question. "I know only what I've been told by those few Soriss that we've kept alive long enough to get information from them."
Matt thought about their ultimate fate before he told her what he knew: that his true origins were still a mystery and that he had helped turn the tide in favor of the rebellion against the corrupt government that had ruled Earth for several decades by using the advanced technology given to him by the Dorzeli Prime, Freerah Braega.
She stopped and said, "I'd always hoped she'd try to help us." She looked down at him and resumed walking. "Please continue."
Somewhat puzzled by her reaction he finished with the rumors that the powerful dragon-like alien and Jason had become lovers, despite her being six times larger than he and that that resulted in their becoming allies, but some disagreement that occurred between them fifteen years after the war caused her to leave Earth with a promise to return.
"The last thing I heard was that she'd saved him from crashing into Mendall's planetary shield after his borrowed Mendallian fighter was severely damaged during the first battle and changed him into a Dorzeli Prime like herself, somewhat less powerful, but just as dangerous."
He had seen her smile broaden while he spoke, but it disappeared with his last words. "What do you mean by dangerous? He's your leader, not your enemy."
He had been afraid of this; it was something he had not wanted to get into, but now he felt that he had little choice. "During one of the last battles on Earth the former government got desperate and, used banned antimatter weapons to ambush and severely injured her." He swallowed hard and looked away from her before he continued. "Up to that point when she attacked a target she somehow managed to spare the military personnel while destroying their equipment, but something must've happened to her during that battle because she went on a rampage and destroyed those fighters and several bases without mercy or warning. There were no survivors and it was officially reported that the bodies of the pilots that attacked her were never found."
He looked back at Feih and saw that she had stopped walking and appeared to have become deeply troubled by this turn of events. He also stopped and continued. "After the war was over no one except Jason ever completely trusted her and now that he's like her..." He could not go on. He could not tell her what he had heard just before his team had left to come to M3; about what he may have done to a traitor that had tried to assassinate him.
"I'm saddened to hear that but I'm not surprised by what she did as we Dorzeli respond on pure instinct if attacked. That's why I disarmed you, but, as I told you before, I won't treat you like that, especially not now."
He was desperate to believe her. The frown on her snout told him that he did not convey that to her with his body language.
"We better keep moving if you're to make your rendezvous on time." She resumed walking without checking to see if he was following her.
The sadness he felt puzzled him. "Could it be that it's because I didn't tell her what Freerah had done before she left Earth? Or was it because...No, it can't be that. It's not possible." He jogged down the well worn trail after her retreating form.
They arrived at the landing coordinates three hours later, a small open field, shortly after the equivalent of noon and after setting up camp in a concealed area to avoid detection by Soriss air patrols they waited for the arrival of his drop ship.
Thirty minutes later, when the time came and went, Feih looked at him and said, "I hope they weren't destroyed."
Matt checked the sky with his binoculars and hoped that wasn't the case and decided to pass the time by asking her about her life on M3 since the Soriss invasion and her family as he had already given her some information on Earth and the Alliance's leader. "How many are in your family? I only saw eight."
He heard a familiar sound, similar to a low growl. He put the glasses down and slowly turned toward her. She appeared to be nervous.
"I guess I've waited too long." She raised her nose to the air and inhaled. With a smile on her snout she said, "I'll be back in a little while." She looked down at him. "Please try not to leave before I get back." The moment he nodded yes she turned and ran from the area.
Her request had sounded more like a plea than a possible threat so he decided that he would try to hold the ship if it came, unless he detected more Dorzeli coming back with her.
Less than thirty minutes later he detected her return and that she was alone. He almost relaxed a bit at this fact until she entered their new campsite and he saw what she was carrying; it looked like the headless remains of some large hoofed animal and it appeared that it had been severely burned.
She licked her snout and sat down near him. "It was a good thing this male Driska wandered away from the main herd or I wouldn't have been back until nightfall." She used a sharp index claw to slice a strip of meat from the hind quarters then handed it to him. "You should like this."
Feeling that he dared not refuse her offer he took the piece of meat from her outstretched hand and found it warm to the touch and that it smelled like it had been cooked. He looked up at her in astonishment. "You have that ability too?"
She smiled. "Yes, but it's much more limited than Freerah's and we don't use it often: don't want to reveal our location to the Soriss or burn down the forest during the dry season. I did this one in a rocky area so there was little chance of that and very little smoke; we can eat raw or cooked food, but I assumed that your people cooked theirs."
"Thank you." He sniffed at the meat then took a sampling bite. His face almost literally lit up. "This tastes great. Thanks."
She smiled then devoured the remainder of her kill. When she finished and had cleansed herself she worked on a new nest for him; "We'll stay here until tomorrow in case they're late."
Matt openly agreed with her, although he felt that if they did not come by then, even if Feih meant him no harm, he might never see Earth or his family again.
