The Chronicles of the Knights: 1
#3 of Knight
His eyes burning with eagerness, his black hair nearly in his face as he pushed it back into what it was always in, which was up like lighting zapped him from the heavens of the gods, the human stood before the castle of the kingdom he called his home. Wearing a simple white tunic shirt and blue pants, a single necklace that held a deep blue gem swayed as he moved back and froth, fighting with himself to ether go in or not. Around him, dragons that walked on two legs and the size of him, and other such beings like humanoid cats and dogs, from all shapes and sizes and types watched him as if he was crazy, not knowing why he was fighting with himself. Some thought it was because he was human, since his race was a dying one, only a thousand of his kind were left, the rest of the world were furs or scales. He stopped and looked before the castle once more, closing his green eyes, rubbing his clean shaved chin before reopening his eyes, his lightly tan skin glisten with sweat as he gulped once and made his way toward the castle.
"You can do it," he whispered to himself, sword slang on his shoulder almost as long and wide as himself, so heavy he had to wield it with two hands. "You've dreamed of them moment since first reading the legends of the Knights long ago," he went past two guards who were grabbed from head to tail in steel armour, the sigh of a lion with a set of wings on the side were seen with yellow, the outside of it red. "You've trained yourself long and hard, both in the mind and body, you can do this...but...why do you feel so unsure of yourself...and why am I talking to myself as if I'm talking to another person?" he shook his head, the door before him opening up wide as he walked in. Many were walking around doing whatever they had to do, looking around for a quick second he made his way toward a female feline, a orange coat seen though the pale white robe she wore with big bulky glasses.
"Oh?" she gasped looking at the human before her. "Sorry, just you don't see many humans coming in here, and not armed with a sword as yourself," the human nodded his head as she tilted her head and walked up close to him looking at him closely, tapping her furry chin as she did. "Is there something I can help you with?" she asked as the human nodded again.
"Yes," he answered pulling out the gem as she looked at it with wide eyes. "I know this gem was used by the Ancients long ago, no Gem worker could make a gem that could glow slightly like this." She nodded holding her paw out as if to hold it, he nodded and took it off him and placed it in her paws as she looked at it closely. She started to roll it around her paw, which was almost as big as her paw itself, tapping at the stone with her finger hearing a small cling every so often.
"This is..." she breathed slightly looking at him then the stone. "This is the right kind, yes! But where did you find something like this?"
"It's been in my family for many, many years," the human answered. "My mother gave it to me before passing away from an illness she could not win from. I made a promise to her then that I would become a Knight for her sake." The cat women nodded her head, seeing the need and want in his eyes.
"I will need to fit this into anArk," she answered looking up at him. "But before I do, you know the risks right?"
Many did try to become a Knight before the human, but all but a few failed, and fail when becoming a Knight was death. He didn't know much, but what he did know was that he would be sent into a dark rift that would take him into a world were the souls of the Knights, also known as Incorruptus would fight the one who wished to claim their power. They were powerful, and only the ones with strong wills and minds could make these Incorruptus their own, and be known as masters to them.
"I know the risks," he answered with a nod. "I am willing to take them as well."
"I will admit this though," she answered looking at him still as she moved closer. "Never had I seen a human or anyone try to come at this age, some are in their late thirties, you look like your just nineteen."
"I am," he answered once more with a nod as the cat only nodded.
"Well then, why don't you wait over there, we will come to you when we are ready."
He did as he was told, leaning over the railing on the inside of the castle as he watched the ones under him scatter around doing whatever they were doing, many were outfitted with amour and weapons, ether traveling or training to become a guard of the castle.
"I heard you were trying to become a Knight's Pactmaker." The human turning around to come face to face with a midnight black anthro dragon, he was taller then him like most of the dragons that stood on two legs would be. His horns on his head a deep white, but the tip looked to be like they were dipped into blood; even his claws looked the same. He was lean like the human, with a few muscles seen on his arms and legs, his chest covered in a light mail of armour. Along his back slung a set of two scimitars, the handle black like his scales, the blade itself as white as snow, the middle part looking gold. They crossed over his back and wings like an X in a way.
"That's right," the human answered looking at the dragon. "And who might you be?"
"The name is Grim Shadowfang," he answered with a claw out to shake his hand; the human looked down and then took his forearm as the dragon did the same with the human's forearm, the two shook twice.
"Brandon Volteer," the human answered back as the two dropped their hands. "Are you here to become a Pactmaker as well?" Grim slightly snorted rolling his eyes and crossing his arms leaning on the railing with the human next to him.
"I wish," he answered. "Seems the scholars here don't have enough Gems to make the Arks, they asked me if I had my own, but those things are rare to find!"
"So I heard,"Brandonnodded looking down at the people again. "So why are you here?"
"That cat, Flameiod was her name," he spoke looking at him. "She said if a person who wished to becoming a Knight asked me to help them fight, she would give me the information on who might have a Gem I need, so I'm asking, do you think you need help?"
Brandon thought for a moment, he did heard of more then one person going into the Void to fight these Incorruptus so that it would be easier, but it would have to be him to bring the killing blow for the Incorruptus to accept him as the Master.
"I would be grateful if you would come with me."Brandonanswered after a while as Grim looked over as if he was surprised.
"Really?" he asked in dumbfounded surprised.
"Yeah," he answered again until raising an eyebrow. "What, you don't want the info?"
"No, I mean yes I do, but you're the first to accept my offer."
"How many had you offered before me?"
"I lost count after ten of them died." This causedBrandonto slightly gulp at this, and just as if on cue, the cat women Flameiod came out holding what seemed to be a gauntlet in her hands, it was grey, it was surrounding the blue Gem that he used to have as a necklace, and around the gem was writing of the old tongue. The middle of the gem held a design that looked like a M with two curves on the outside, that seemed like to glow softly.
"And there!" she cried holding it to him asBrandontook it. "Just put it on to see if it fit."Brandonnodded and slipped it on, it fit like it was tailored on his hand and forearm from the start. He moved it up and moved his fingers and fluxed his arm to see if it would fall off; it didn't. "Yes it fits!" she cried while bringing a fist up in a winning like stance. "I am so great!"
"Seem fuller of herself if you ask me," Grim whispered to the human next to him who had to hold back a smirk as Flameiod growled at him.
"I heard that lizard breath!" she hissed as he shrank back a bit. "Anyway, are you ready then?" she asked looking at Brandon who also nodded looking at Grim.
"I would also like to bring Grim with me," he looked back at her. "If that's alright." She looked to him then the dragon then back at him as she only shrugged.
"Your choice, now before you go you must know, when you kill this Knight, you must bring your Ark up so that it can be brought inside it, only then can you truly summon it, when you come back, we will show you how to." He nodded as she nodded back walking away and making sure the two followed behind her. When she stopped she was before a large portal, the Void of whichBrandonknew the Knight's souls would be in.
"You ready?" Grim asked as he looked at him asBrandonnodded pulling out his large blade with his sword arm.
"Ready," he answered as the two made their way though.
Once though the two looked around in utter shock, all around them, floating pillars and other such things were seen floating or frozen as if time itself had stopped here. Grim pulling out his own weapons now got ready for anything, though nothing was seen at the moment, he didn't want to take any chances of something pouncing at them out of nowhere.Brandonslowly made his way forward, stopping near the edge and peered down, nothing but empty void greeted him as he took a step back. There were other floating ground like the one they were standing on, but they could find no way, besides Grim flying but they didn't want to tempt fate of him dropping the human by mistake, to get across. Suddenly a bright grey light shot from the middle of the area, making the two cover their eyes with ether their arms or wings, when the light faded enough that they could see, they were taken aback by how large the Incorruptus truly was, it stood maybe close to twenty-two feet tall, like the ark Brandon wore it was grey, a sword in its hand as it didn't move for a while. It wore armour of plain, nothing that would seem epic or anything like that. But when it started to move, it got into a battle like stance, blade to its side.Brandonand Grim turned to each other, a sharp nod from them both as they turned to face the Incorruptus.
The large grey Knight shot forward like it was flying on the ground, blade up and smashed where the two use to be.Brandonskidded to the left while Grim to the right. The dragon jumped and took flight, going for the head, but the knight saw this and spun, backhanding him with its huge metal hand causing the black dragon to let out a few spat of blood.Brandoncursing as he saw his partner hit the ground as he then went after the Knight, who went for a kick. The human jumped just in time to land on the foot and jumped once more sending him up in the air, slashing his blade down, he was stopped by the Knight's own blade as sparks flew as steel clashed. Again Grim went for the attack, slashing at the neck of the Knight and moving fast to whereBrandonwas, grabbing a hold of his hand and bringing them both down to the ground. The Knight was barely fazed causingBrandonto become fluster with rage.
"We barely even phased it!" he brulted out as the Knight got ready once more.
"Stay alive thereBrandon!" Grim growled back in his own anger. "If we keep fighting, we are bound to find a weakness!" Brandon gave him a sharp nod and got ready as Grim brought his swords to his back, closing his eyes as he did, his lips moved in a face pace, the blades turning them into a flaming swords, Brandon was slightly surprised, but better not to ask about him using magic right now. The two once more went for the attack, the Knight slamming a fist down to cause the earth under them to shake, Brandon fell to the ground, but Grim went on, flying into the air he brought his blades up and roared and shot them forward, a torrent of flames engulfing the Knight as it struggled backwards and fell on one knee. That's when Brandon say it, the core in the Knight's chest, grabbing his blade he ran forward past Grim, and before the Knight could stand up, the flung his sword hard and fast at the chest, the tip breaking into the core and flew out the other end.
What sounded like a blood turning scream was heard thought the area, Brandon jumped back as Grim stood beside him, blades away as his claws burst into flames then, ready for anything that might happen, but the Knight didn't move, it didn't attack, but slowly started to disappear before the only thing kneeling where the Knight use to be, was what seemed to be a pure blue spirit. Looking up, its eyes a deeper blue, on the head looked to be horns that pushed backwards. It was large as well, larger then even Grim, standing to it's full height, it started to walk closer to the two, and Grim got ready to fight, as well as Brandon who was now sword-less.
"Wielder of thyArk," it spoke in a deep male like voice. "Do thus wishes to form a pact my Master?" it then bowed; hand over chest as it knelt on one knee once more and head down.Brandonturned to Grim who also looked to him; noddingBrandonnodded back and moved forward.
"I do,"Brandonanswered as the Spirit stood up once more towering over the human as it looked down.
"Then take my power Master, and use it as thy see fit, I shall grant thy with power no matter what thy path he chooses." It then started to glow and broke into thousands of pieces, looking more like stars as they shot towardBrandon'sArk.He screamed as pain unlike anything he had felt cruised throughout his body from theArk, as it slowly changed colors from the old grey, to a deep blue much like the spirit was; the fingers were a deeper blue much like the eyes.
"I...I can't believe it, you got a Knight?!" Flameiod was in a sate of shock, looking down atBrandon's newArk, which proved he was truly a Pacemaker now. "I...wow!"
"Well it was also thanks to Grim,"Brandonpointed out looking at him. "If it wasn't for him, I doubt I would've won."
"But you did the killing blowBrandon," he told the human looking down at him. "And you also lose your sword because of that."
"Oh don't worry about that," Flameiod grinned holding up a finger and winking. "The guards at the weapon shop will give you a brand new Claymore, just tell them old Flameiod sent ya, and you'll get it for free."
"Free really?"Brandonasked in shock as she smiled.
"Yes, because now I have a new little test subject in case I make stronger armour and weapons for the Knights! You know it was my great, great, great, grand-mother who made the first non- Ancients Knight." She seemed to glow with pride. "Oh how I wish to have met her, to know what she was thinking or how she found out how to!"
"Maybe she was smoking the steam a little too much," Grim muttered asBrandonsnorted and let a small smile come across his face as Flameiod ear twitched and hissed. "Anyway, I helped a person become a Knight, so now it's your turn to end up your part."
"Yes, yes I remember our deal," she rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. "Well to get the Gem you need in order to do as Brandon did, you would have to make your way to Albana, west of here, but to do that you'll have to go though Greydall Plain, though the Nordia Tunnels, and then past Lagnish Desert." Grim only nodded and was about to turn to leave untilBrandonstopped him.
"Hey," he said looking up at him. "Let me come with you." Grim gave him a look asBrandonsmiled. "You helped me, only fair I help back right?"
"Sure, if that's what you want." He answered asBrandonnodded. The two setting off toward the heavy doors to start their journey.
