#1 of Like in dream, but better

Please forgive me my bad language - I'm still learning. This is my first story, so please, be tolerant. However, comments are expected :)

"Bye Jack, see ya later!"

"Bye!"

Phew, finally end. Although it was very fun, I have had enough today.

By the way, as you noticed, my name's Jack, though I don't like this name. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing bad about it, I just feel that it doesn't fit me. Did you ever have this feeling?

I should tell you more about me. Well, there isn't much, I'm just a normal boy, 17 years old and quite tall as for my age. I haven't got much friends, only two, but even they aren't, as you say, "true friends".

I don't like school. Although I have nice grades, school is boring as hell. History, geography, physics... all these subjects are stupid or hard. Well, maybe except one: English. I forgot to mention that I live in Poland - small country in the center of Europe - and polish is my native language. From the beginning of my education, I always liked English. Because all boys in my class are dumb, they often harassed me with regard to my grades.

I have a hobby. I collect everything with dragons. Posters, figurines, necklaces... Yes, I like dragons very much. I'm even planning to make a tattoo with dragon on my shoulder blade. Too bad that I have absolutely no skills in drawing. If I could, I would draw them much.

Quite recently, I found another interesting hobby, namely playing in guitar. I bought a bass guitar and started learning. So far I have learned only few simple songs, but I derive so much pleasure from this that I haven't got discouraged yet.

I and my other two friends were playing on instruments today. Yes, they like playing too. Damian likes playing on acoustic guitar and Patryk likes playing on synthesizer. They're rookies, just like me, and we like learning together. We were playing quite long, until sun set. It's July, so it must be after midnight now.

Right now, I'm riding back on my bike to my home. My bass guitar on my back and my laptop in my bag. Damn, it's so dark that even flashlight doesn't help much. But this night like most of nights in summer is very warm, I'm dressed only in little shirt and shorts and it's still warm. My house is still 2 kilometers away, so I'll get there in about 10 minutes. Or not...

Suddenly, I noticed a white shining dot in front of me, maybe 100 meters away. It's nothing, I thought, it's firmly some car that appeared from turning. But something wasn't right: it should be two dots, right? And why I don't hear engine whirr? Another bike? It was approaching quite fast and was shining more and more brightly. It was now so close that it was blinding me with pure and strong white light.

"Fuck, I'm gonna crash!" I yelled and covered my face with one hand, second hand holding bike.

I felt suddenly so light that it seemed to me that I'm rising off the ground. I grabbed my bike tightly, eyes still closed because of this light. Then it hit me: pain, a true great pain in all my body. I yelled as loud as my lungs allowed me. I never felt something like this in all my life. Hell, I even haven't got broken bone. THIS was so horrible that I was thinking about one thing: to die, and quick. I couldn't handle it, the pain was too great, so I fainted.

Dark, everything is dark. And so silent. I don't know where I am. I heard voice, two voices actually. One was very low, bass voice, second was higher, but not to high. They were surely male voices. I didn't hear much, but I have understood something:

"...and I'm afraid that I can do nothing to help him."

"But father! Are you sure? Please, think up something!"

"I'm very sorry son. I can't"

"What about Taga Change?"

"Taga Change? Son, do you realize what are you asking me about? We do know nothing about him! What if we'll ruin his life?"

"We will venture, please father!"

"Ehh... Well then, we'll try...

And then I remember nothing.

„Aghh... my head..." Waking up, I felt like shit. I have never been drunk, but I have heard how painful hangover may be. So I know now how it is to have dull headache and nausea.

Slowly, I opened my eyes. The vision was out of focus, but I noticed that I was in some small room. The walls were very atypical, they looked like made from stone - rough and dark. There wasn't much in this room. I was situated in king-size bed with white velvet sheets. Opposite me was simple wooden desk and chair without bracket. On the right was hanging a mirror, but at a angle that I wasn't seeing myself. On the left was hole in the wall, probably passage to other rooms, but no doors. There wasn't any visible source of light, but the room was somehow well lightened. I had sensation that I was in some kind of underground.

By now my sight improved itself, so I decided to look around, but when I started going out of bed, something wasn't right.

"Why my back feels odd?" I turned around and became stupefied. Wings. Big, bat-like light green wings. They were attached to my back.

"What the..." I quickly looked at my hands and I almost choked. That weren't my hands... They were covered in green glossy scales, the same that most of reptiles have. Scales! What's more, I had four fingers now instead of five. And I had black claws instead of nails. They looked sharp. I quickly stood up from the bed in order to go to the mirror, but when I did my first step, I collapsed onto my stomach. Ugh! That hurt! My legs were felling odd too, so with grimace of pain I looked at them. Oh my God, my feet didn't looked like human feet anymore. Three thick digits in each foot and green scales everywhere. These parts of foot between heels and digits were longer now. So I understood now why I collapsed. I slowly began to get up, but I reeled to the back and I had to lean against the wall. I forgot that I have wings, but not only... I turned around again and I noticed something else. Tail! It was starting a little above my rump, thick at start and a pointy end. It was probably two meters long! And also had green scales. I turned back and looked at my chest. Of course there were scales also, but this time a lighter tone of green than rest. They were running probably from under my chin to backside of my tail. I noticed another thing. I have no genitals. That shocked me completely. But then I recalled myself that reptiles have got genitals hidden in their body. That chilled out me a little. So I turned to the mirror.

I couldn't believe. In front of me was standing a dragon. Dragon! I'm a dragon! I have got a muzzle and dark blue eyes, but they were looking cat-like. I have also got two grey horns. And, weird enough, I have got hairs, long and dark blond, just like before. I looked at all my body with incredulity. Dragon... Yes, still have some human shapes, but it was visibly the draconic body... And well muscled too. How it happened?

"Finally, you woke up." The cheerful voice said. I turned back instantly. In the entrance of room was standing... another dragon! He looked almost like me, but had blue scales instead of green. His chest scales were yellow and he hadn't got hairs. He was smiling warmly at me. When I saw this smile, something hit me inside. I felt suddenly very calm. His smile was so reassuring, so nice...

"H.. h.. how it ha-happened?" I managed to stammer. He suddenly looked surprised and scratched his head.

"Oh man, we have a problem..." I understood what he had in mind. I was talking in polish! And he was talking in english! Thank God that I know this language. I said again, this time in english:

"What happened to my body? Where I am? And who are you?" I was sprinkling questions like mad.

He quickly brightened up and said:

"Oh, so you do speak this language! Very good, that'll help a lot. Well, as you noticed, you are a dragon now."

"But.. but why?"

"Well... it was necessary to keep you alive. You see, when I found you at the forest, you were almost dying in my hands... I quickly brought you to my father, he is knowledgeable at healing a little. But he said that he couldn't heal you. Your damages were caused by magic that he had never seen before. What happened to you anyway?"

"I... I don't know... I was just going back to my home... And then I saw white light that absorbed me... And I felt pain, great pain, I have never felt it before... I fainted. I woke up here."

"Hmm... that's weird... I must tell my father about it. Anyway, I was sure that you didn't want to die, so we decided to use last resort: Taga Change."

"Taga what?"

"Taga Change. It's a complex process that allows to transform one species to another. Your body was dying, but not your soul, so it worked perfectly. Although it wasn't easy."

I couldn't believe, this everything fell on me so quickly... Dragons, magic... Something, that I thought don't exist suddenly appears in front of my eyes...

Then it hit me - I'm dragon - believe me or not, but I always was dreaming about being a dragon. I like to read fantastic literature and have got a vivid imagination, so maybe it isn't a big surprise. I started to smile a little.

"What do you thinking about?" The dragon said and also smiled.

I came back to reality.

"Well, maybe this is weird, but sometimes I was thinking about it..."

"About what?"

"About being a dragon. Maybe this is a little childish, but I like to fantasize."

To my surprise, he sighed in relief and said:

"Thank God you think like that. You see, my dad was worried that Taga Change may ruin your life, but apparently this isn't a problem."

"Not at all" I assured him. "But I need to get used to my new body. My feet hurt a little."

"That because you are staying incorrectly. Try to stay like tiptoes."

I tried and it worked. My feet felt much better.

"What is your name anyway?" I asked.

"Oh, forgive me, I should introduce myself earlier. My name's Naar."

"Naar... that's nice..."

"Thanks. What's yours?"

I wanted to tell him, but I stopped. I thought again that my name doesn't suit me, especially now, so I decided to name myself anew.

"Erebus. But call me Erb."

"So, Erb, welcome in our home! Come on, I must introduce you to my parents!"

"All right." I made a step in his direction, but I reeled again. He noticed this and instantly caught me in his arms.

"Careful. You really need to get used to your new body. Here, embrace my back with your hand and lean against me, we're gonna walk together for a little."

I did as he told me and we slowly started to go. While we were walking throughout the corridor, I asked:

"Tell me Naar, why I have got hairs? I always thought that dragon doesn't have them."

"You are right, but you were human before and probably that is why. And I think you look cute in them." I blushed deeply at that comment. It seems that he is straight about things.

The corridor was surprisingly long and had many turnings. My face must have shown my surprise, because Naar said:

"That's because it mutes sounds."

"Where are we anyway?"

"In cave, but I know what you want to say. You think that dragons live in caves such like some primitive beasts, but that's not true. We like to live comfortable, just like humans."

"I never thought that dragons are beasts or I didn't want to. I was always thinking that dragons are wise and nice creatures. And I still do."

"I'm glad about that. I don't want to think what it would be if there was someone else in your place, someone that thinks different."

I smiled and he smiled at me too. Again, I had this nice, warm feeling. I blushed again and turned my head. Why I'm feeling this?

Finally, the corridor ended and we found ourselves in very big and tastefully furnished chamber. It was in circular shape. There were few sofas and coughs here and there, all of them turned to the centre of the room. There was a big table too. In the floor, there was a huge carpet, almost big as it was the room. It had nice shade of green and was very soft. There were seven passages, including that we came from. This room was also well lightened, but it wasn't some artificial light that bulbs make, it was pure sunlight.

Naar helped me to sit in one of the coughs and said:

"Wait here, I'll bring my parents, they're in library."

He headed to one of the corridors, but before he disappeared, he had given me another smile.

Waiting, I tried to calm down, because I was still a bundle of nerves. I endeavored not to think about what will happen next. Why I'm nervous anyway? I'm only going to meet his parents, not a big deal, I thought.
