Chapter Eleven.

Companionship

After leaving Nacrene City, Evin felt unusually confident as he and the others journeyed down the path to Pinwheel Forest, once again heading for Castelia City. Even though he had just sent two of his pokemon off to rest and enjoy themselves at the professor's lab, Evin felt more powerful than ever before. And he also felt like he was one big step closer to finally one day sending a message to his parents back in his home world.

His team now consisted of Zora, Rika, Victini, Shadow, and now Reshiram, while Dawn had Piplup, Cilia, Herdier, Servine, Sewaddle, and her new little Oshawott. They walked with happy cheerful banter for many hours before they came to the forest where they had first met Zorua back when Team Rocket was chasing her; everyone shivered at the remembrance.

Seeing that Zora seemed to be affected the most by her memories of this place, Dawn tried to comfort her as they continued walking. Unlike the last time they had entered this forest though, Evin sensed that the forest was calm and tranquil.

When they reached the same place they had first seen Team Rocket, just out of suspicious paranoia and precaution's sake, Evin still stuck his head around the same corner as last time. After looking around for a few moments, he was relieved when he only saw the empty road ahead and a few other travelers and trainers.

As Evin's group continued, they found that a lot of these people were trainers that were just there looking for challenges. Evin thought it odd that anyone would be out looking for random challenges with what was going on with Team Rocket and Plasma.

But Dawn helped his confusion though by telling him why the trainers couldn't afford to stay in safe cities all the time. Which was because challenging other trainers was basically a trainer's job, as it was the only way for trainers to earn money, by challenging other trainers and gym leaders.

Evin and the others looked forward to these more normal competition matches after having so many life and death fights with evil organizations. For Evin and his pokemon, these trainer matches were in fact enjoyable, even if his pokemon had to work for their victories. In these matches Evin mainly used Zora, Shadow, and Rika, but in a few of the fights that even Rika had found herself in a bind, Evin was forced to call upon Victini for a spectacular finale.

These few trainers that had pushed Evin's main three to their limits were always perturbed about loosing after coming so close to having Evin on the ropes. But most of these trainers were good sports and often acknowledged how they envied Evin for having Victini in his line up and often thanked him for a great battle.

There were a few jerks mixed in, but none had been exactly brave enough to be overly rude. Evin even found that some of these trainers that were not so nice, had in fact at one time been good at hiding their abusive natures before they had become trainers, but had given up all pretences of niceness after achieving the title of trainer. Evin deeply disapproved of these few people, but at the moment he had bigger fish to fry else where, so he didn't bother himself with the small stuff right now.

The path was really direct compared to the maze they had to stumble through the last time, so it only took them that entire day to get most of the way through the forest by the time dusk was upon them. Night came with a peaceful breeze as the group set up camp next to the main road. After camp was set, they spent the most of the night just talking about the events that had taken place throughout the day and just enjoyed the cooling night air.

They got bothered a few times by trainers wandering in the dark, but that was quickly remedied when Evin let Reshiram take the night's watch duty later on when they got ready for bed. A legendary on night watch was an imposing figure to say the least, especially to any that saw the fire dragon type standing near the camp fire with its tail blazing; so with that, the camp went undisturbed for the rest of the night.

After a quick breakfast the next morning, it wasn't long before they saw the place they had snuck out of the forest past Team Rocket and had made a mad dash for the bridge ahead. Dawn had hopes of competing at the next contest in Nimbasa City, so she hoped their little detour back to Nacrene City didn't make her miss it as they put a lot of effort into hurrying back to Castelia today.

Without any pokemon thieves around, their travels were much more enjoyable and thankfully faster, as Evin and Dawn took turns battling trainers along the way. Dawn spent a good portion of her time perfecting some of her new contest moves, while Evin still experimented with his aura powers at forming shields and learning new things.

He practiced forming barriers with the device that protected mostly only himself and the device itself, creating a very powerful barrier that as far as Evin could tell could not be breached. But he also practiced forming area shields that could shield everyone around him, but after a few tests, he found these to be much weaker and would break like shattering glass if overpowered.

Evin even began to try other things with his healing powers after he was sure he had his barrier skills down pat. He began by concentrating and focusing his healing powers so that he could try to heal his pokemon when they were hurt in a fight.

In most cases nothing ever happened, but he did eventually succeed in doing something that was like using heal pulse. But after doing so a few times, it became obvious that the skill was kind of counter productive, as it used up an unbelievable portion of his energy with each successful try. So after seeing that it had no daily practical use, Evin just wrote the skill off as last-ditch effort life or death situation healing method if someone was dieing.

Once they made it to Castelia City again, they stopped by the pokemon center and checked in for the night. The nurse there was thrilled to see them again and admired Evin's new gear as she gave them the key and talked with them a little.

After talking with the nurse, they dropped their stuff off in the room they got, and then went about unpacking their stuff as they made a list of stuff to get at the store. Evin, Dawn, and Rika left the other pokemon in their room shortly after making their list and decided that since it was still early evening, they would pay Burgh a visit. And so they then set off to see the gym leader before they went shopping.

Once at the gym, Burgh greeted them and said, "I'm glade your ok after what I saw last week. Some people were worried that you might have been dieing after you collapsed, but it looks like things worked out for the best and all is well now."

They then talked a little while about what Burgh thought of the snag machine and found that while he resented such a machine being created in the first place, that at the same time he thought that it could become very useful for Evin's unique worldly dilemma. Dawn and Alder had gotten the rest of Evin's story from Juniper after Evin had been moved to the emergency room, so Dawn didn't have to ask any questions about what the gym leader was talking about when he mentioned Evin being from another world.

In fact Dawn was happy that Evin was so unique and felt special herself because of it. She had already fallen in love with him with all her heart before this, but he had still seemed so mysterious to her even after being with him so long. But once she had heard the rest of Evin's story from the professor, it was like the last layer of mystery had finally been stripped away him that had once made Evin seem very strange, which made her feel that much closer to him.

Although there still seemed to be something about him that she felt like she couldn't even comprehend; even if he did try to explain it, she wasn't sure that she would understand. Though she suspected that Evin himself didn't understand it either.

After the talk was over and everyone said good-bye, Dawn, Rika, and Evin stopped by the local store and replenished the small amount of supplies they had need of before going back to the pokemon center for dinner. Nurse Joy was happy and cheerful the entire time as she started small conversations with them, and also bustled about the lobby serving and helping other trainers who wandered in now and then.

When Evin, Rika and Dawn were done eating, they thanked Nurse Joy and then went on up stairs to their room. As they entered the room, Rika gave them a happy naughty smile and sat in her usual chair in the corner of the room, where an all too eager Zora got up on her lap.

Reshiram replied back with telepathy and said that she needed to be sure his determination to seek the truth was sound and that he had the power to earn her respect.

Her telling him this and revealing that she was in fact female, made Evin turn red with embarrassment as he thought about how she had watched them all night and morning. He managed to stow his embarrassment though when another thought came to mind, as he then asked her about Zekrom.

At him mentioning her opposite, Reshiram shuddered and said, "We are eternally linked as both mates and rivals. He and I only get along rarely because of the ones we choose, but when we do work together, woe on to thy foe, for we cannot be stopped. But every time we face each other as enemies, we kill each other and destroy everything around us in the process before being trapped in stones to await our new chosen. We are the embodiments of truth and idealism, and we bestow our might to the seekers of these. What is your truth?"

Evin thought about this for a moment and said, "I want to send a message to my parents somehow, so that they may move on in peace and not worry over me, and I also wish to restore the balance of this world." Reshiram then said, "Your truth shall be your journey and I will help you fulfill your destiny. Lets us go now, so you may spread your wings for the world to see."

With that said she gave a loud roar and flapped a few times. Dawn and the other pokemon came outside to see what the fuss was about, and Evin just said, "She's just fired up and ready to go. Are you all ready as well?" Dawn gulped down her last dumpling and then happily nodded and the other pokemon cheered as well.
