Recollections
#2 of Alex & Brendan - A Brother's Bond
A look into my past, and a glimpse into the future
This takes place before TheNovelists story with me and Brendan, also a little bit afterward
I sighed. Brendan had once again left for Central. He always seemed to think that I didn't want to go. Stupid dragon. Either way, he said he was going to see if he could bring home one of his newer friends. He said he'd be home before I was done with school. Of course, he didn't bother asking mom if it was all right. After I asked her, she said he would be alright for him to stay.
"Yeah, it shouldn't be a problem. I already take care of a dragon; another human shouldn't be a problem."
"Cool mom! I'm sure he's awesome, judging by how Brendan describes him," I responded.
"Yep, shouldn't be a problem at all," she said. Suddenly, as she said that, my head pounded with a sudden ache. As I bent over in pain, a small light went unseen from my pedant under my shirt. I bent straight again, but something had changed. Although I was still in my kitchen, it seemed like I was watching an old fashion movie. I could see a younger looking version of my mother, along with a younger female wolf. She looked slightly familiar, but I just couldn't place her. As I watched the scene unfold, my pendant grew brighter and hotter, though I was still oblivious. Suddenly, the wolf started to speak.
"Come on. Everything is being paid for by the university. I would get free funding for the Recollection Project, along with an education."
"Well, I'm still not sure about this. I like the education part, however, it's the government funding for your project on memories that scares me." said my mom.
"Come on mom!" said the wolf. Wait a minute... MOM!?!? Then that means....
"Well, honey... It shouldn't be a problem. Oh, Alex! Hi sweetie!" said my mom.
"Hi mom! Hi sis!" said the younger me. I knew it. The wolf is my sister, Sarah. But how was this possible. I was seeing the past. Every once in a while, I would see an old memory of mine that I may have forgotten, and even a few of Brendan's, due to our close bond. But this time was different. It was my first time that I was seeing a memory from another's point of view where I wasn't present. This one was my mother's memory. A sudden burst of heat on my chest brought me back to reality.
My mother was standing over me, with a concerned look on her face.
"Alex! Are you okay!?! You passed out!" My mom was really concerned. It was a strange feeling there. I was looking at her face, yet I could still see the vision of the past.
"Y-yeah. I'm fine. I should hurry; I'll be late for school."
"Alex! I don't know if you should be going after you fainted." Oh, that's right. My mom doesn't know about my ability to see memories from my past.
"N-no. I'll be fine. Bye mom! I love you!" I quickly got up and then ran toward the door. Before I got there, I glanced at the T.V. The two warring parties outside of the city were still fighting. It was even present inside our city of Kroy Wen. The two party's representatives were speaking: Kren for the Tracomed, and Flan for the Cilbuper. I could tell this was going to be a long day.
On my way to school, I kept having short bursts of pain in my head, along with quick glimpses of the past involving my sister. As I continued up the step to my school, my head felt increasingly painful. Then, with a sudden *pop* the pain was gone again. I quickly glanced around. It seemed like nothing had changed. As I looked around, I caught a quick look at Logan. God, that wolf was hot. Anyways, I finished climbing the stairs up to my classroom. I suddenly had another look at someone else's memories. I shook my head to clear the pictures. I then realized what was happening. My powers of glancing into memories were improving. I tried to remember what my sister had said.
"Now, Alex. You and I both have small forms of telepathic powers. While I have the powers of looking into the future, you have the power to look into the memories of the past. My powers were fully realized during my 16th year. I'm sure yours will too," said my sister.
"What about Brendan," I asked.
"Ahh, yes. Now, it may not seem like it, but Brendan has his own powers. He can see the present. He is able to sense the awareness of others, and tell how they are." she said.
So, now that I am 16, my powers were being fully realized. I then found myself inside my math class. I walked in and saw Mrs. Jones, my horse math teacher. I saw a brief flash of her memory of her and her husband... Ahhh!!! Do NOT want to see that. After a small shake of my head, I went and found my seat. I couldn't look up quite yet, the memories were too strong. However, once Mrs. Jones started to talk, my mental storm started to calm. I had already finished all my homework for this semester, so it gave me some time to reflect. I finally noticed that my pendant glowed slightly every time I read a memory. I just can't seem to remember where I got it...
"Alex, are you paying attention?" said Mrs. Jones.
"Huh? Yeah, sorry, I spaced out."
"Hmm... Well, pay attention!"
"Yeah....Oh!?!?"
"Well Alex? Do you like it?"
"Yeah sis! It's cool!"
"Great! I didn't know if 6 year olds like wearing stuff like this," Sarah said.
"Yeah, it's great!" I responded excitedly. Sarah had just given me an orange pedant to wear. I thought it was great
"Well, make sure you wear it all the time!"
"No problem!"

That was two weeks before Sarah was shot. They never found the shooter. We were able to go see her in the hospital. Brendan and my mother had already walked out because they were crying so much. I was standing next to her, numb. She was a brown wolf, but in death, she looked like some mutt. I could feel the tears coming. I turned to leave, but my eye caught on something. In Sarah's paw was a piece of paper. I wrenched it out and saw that it was addressed to me. I opened it and read:
~Alex, I am sorry that I had to leave you so soon. There was much more that we needed to talk about. As you remember, I have premonitions. A year ago, I had one that went far into the future, almost ten years. I saw something for which I had to make preparations. I won't be able to tell you, but it involves you, Brendan, and the other Explorers. Do you remember the pendant I gave you? Make sure you have it when you join those who can traverse other worlds. It is the key to unleash a great power, but something in turn must be sacrificed. Make sure you wear it always, for it will change your life forever. I am afraid that I no longer have anytime left. Make sure no one else reads this. I know that you will remember this when you need to, because you have that power. Recollection. I will always love you Alex. ~Sarah
Huh? Why was I unable to remember this until now... I also saw that my pendant was glowing slightly. I wonder if it had anything to with that memory. I suddenly lurched in my seat as my head was bombarded with old memories.
"Alex, are you okay? You look pale...." asked Mrs. Jones
"No, I think I need to go home, sorry..."
*********************************************
As I was walking back home, my head was still in pain. I suddenly felt Brendan teleport back to Htrae. It's a twin thing. Anyways, I decided to hurry home, in order to meet Brendan and Alduin. I just hoped my powers would settle down for a while. After getting home, I decided to rest for a few minutes until my headache went away.
*********************************************
I suddenly woke up after a dreamless sleep. What woke me up was the sound of the door closing. I could hear the sound of my mom's voice and of her cooking. I got up right away and run to my door. "A visitor!"
After Alduin left, Brendan confronted me.
"Was that necessary," he asked.
"Do you really have to ask? Alduin means well, even if it does upset our little bubble of life a little bit, it still is good. I mean, I got a boyfriend, even if it was a little unconventional."
"What do you mean," he asked.
"Well, I was able to glance in his memory before he left. That creature was a hologram from his mind."
"What! It was a fake! I can't believe?!?! ... Wait... You read his memory? How did you do that? I thought that you could only read your own, and mine sometimes. But another person?"
"Oh, it has been happening a lot recently. I've started to see them a lot, though if I concentrate, I can block it out a little better, but it sometimes comes in waves and..." I couldn't finish. I felt a sudden burst of hateful memories from someone outside my house. I read some very bloody memories from said person, which I had a hard time blocking out. Brendan stared at me oddly, for he sensed a little of what I was feeling. We both jumped as our doorbell rang, and mom answered it. She seemed a little surprised as she called for me to some downstairs. As I came down I stopped as I saw just who was in the doorway. The lion in the doorway glanced up as he heard me.
"Alex Dowski? Brother to Sarah Dowski? My name is..." he started
"Yes, I know your name. It's Kren Leon of the Tracomed war party."
Haha! Yeah. I finally got my next story done. Two months isn't that bad. Anyways....... comment and leave me feedback. Hopefully, I'll write the next one sooner. Later! ~Dowski
