Hello, everybody! I'm pleased to give you all my first submission, one that I'm very proud of and have spent QUITE some time on. XD
Please give me any critique you find I should know. This IS my first submission, so I'm not doubting there to be quite a few mistakes.
This piece will span the lifetime of an aspiring metal band's inception and hopeful success, mostly surrounding my own character, who is the band's screamer. I'm hoping you guys enjoy it!
WARNING: This story (though not necessarily this chapter) may contain naughty bits of the male on male kind, so if that's not your thing, now's the time to hit that there Go Back One Page button on your browser. Don't worry, I'm not gonna judge. ;)
BEEEEEEP BEEEEEEP BEEEEEEP
"Oh, son of a..."
With a loud thud, Thelen slammed the alarm clock's snooze button.
"Saturday, of all days, it just HAD to be a Saturday. What in the world is Garrett thinking?" he thought to himself as he stared at the clock, a look of quiet rage in his eyes. He had been told by Garrett to get up early this morning and rush over to his place. The text Thelen recieved still lingered in his mind:
Get over here at 9am sharp. I've got a surprise for ya! :D
_ That early? D'you win the lottery? _
It's a surprise, Blubs! Just get over here at 9!
Fine. :/ I'll see ya then.
Kk see ya.
Thelen ruminated about the text for a decent amount of time the night before, but his mind came up short on what could possibly be happening. So, with a heavy sigh, he slid his orca form out of bed and straight to the shower. As he felt the warm water caress his body, he relaxed and entered that zenlike state he so desperately desired. The shower is his best friend on an early morning like this, and he loved spending long periods of time in there to just let himself drift off. Though sometimes things would get a bit too relaxed, as was the case this morning.
He soon noticed that his crotch had wishes that needed fulfilling, as his erection had already formed without him knowing.
_"_Well, might as well be in here." He thought to himself, chuckling as he tended to his needs. After a couple minutes of quiet jacking, he reached release, shooting a couple times onto the shower's wall before quickly cleaning up and quickly getting himself prepared for the day.
After drying off, brushing his teeth, putting on some boxers, socks, jeans, a gray t-shirt, he reached for his hoodie and started running downstairs. His father, an orca whom one could easily tell that passed his size on to his son, was sitting in the kitchen with his coffee and toast, much like every other Saturday before work.
_"_Hey Dad, I'mma head down to Garrett's this morning, okay? I'll give you a call later about what's going down." Thelen yelled as he ran downstairs, noting just how long he'd taken in the shower. He only had 10 minutes to get to Garrett's, which was quite the walk.
His father was quick to reply. "Well, good morning to you too! I was wondering why your alarm went off so early!"
_"_Yeah, Garrett seemed really enthusiastic on getting me down to his place early today. I don't really get it either."
"It's okay, I'll see you later. You guys can come back here if you're strapped for entertainment later, I'm gonna be out most of the day."
"Sick! Thanks Dad!" Thelen replied, already on his way out the door.
"No problem! I'll see you tonight, Thel!" his father stated as he left immediately out the side door to his house, on his way to Garrett's.
As he walked, Thelen began to think again about what in the hell Garrett had in store for them. He was really hoping it wasn't related to the two of them being together like before.
Garrett, a Machoke who Thelen met at school, had been his boyfriend for the last year, but they had recently broken up due to realizing that they'd much rather just be friends. Thelen was thankful, because he really didn't want to lose the Machoke. He was his best friend, and though they didn't fool around anymore, he still meant the world to the orca.
"It's probably nothing." He thought to himself. All he could do was hope he's right.
The walk through the suburban town didn't take as long as he expected, with him arriving with a minute to spare. He quickly walked to the door and knocked as loudly as usual for them to hear.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK
"THEL, GET IN HERE!!!" Garrett shouted from inside.
Quickly, Thelen opened the door and rushed inside, running into Garrett in the living room.
He had a large grin on his face.
"Oh shit, this'll be good." Thelen thought to himself.
"Okay, so WHY did I just get up 2 hours early and run over here on a random whim?" Thelen blurted, rather bluntly.
Garrett's grin only widened at the remark. "You know how you and I were talking about possibly getting those auditions for our band under way?"
Thelen's eyes widened. This couldn't be it already, it had only been two weeks since they put in the request.
"No way."
"Yup. Flyers are already up, I've recieved fifteen phone calls already from potential players. We're getting it done!" he shouted with delight.
Thelen couldn't help but shout, unable to contain his excitement. "DUDE!"
He then made a beeline over to the Machoke, connecting in a tight hug.
The two had already had planned for almost a year on finally getting a band together. Garrett was already well known in the area for his bass-work in a previous band, as was Thelen for his blistering screams. The two knew it was only a matter of time before they form a new band after both of there's disbanded, and it seems the two were making their return faster than expected!
After breaking the embrace, Thelen started the questioning.
"Okay so when, where, and what're we looking for?"
Garrett quickly gave him the flyer, full of all the details he had just asked.
Thelen eyes grew wide, with a large grin on his face.
"Dude, you're the best! I can't believe we're actually getting this done!"
"BELIEVE me," Garrett retorted, "I didn't think it would happen. I'm officially glad I have connections in the school now."
"Me too dude, me too." Thelen said, knowing full well of Garrett's father, Mr. McCann, being a vice principal at the high school, the location of the auditions. Thelen was thankful for having Mr. McCann there, for he gave the both of them a much easier time through the hell that was the public education system, providing them with help on schedules, free lunch passes at times, and help with several problems aroused through the years, particularly those that came with the two of them coming out. Now that they're both graduated, Thelen wasn't quite sure how well their idea would work. It couldn't have been a better time for the VP to work his magic once again for them, it seemed.
"Okay, so we're going to NEED to practice, then."
"Don't worry, Thel. We've got a week to prepare, so we'll be ready for it! That being said, practice time starts now!"
So their practice began, and it rarely stopped throughout the week. Both of them worked on some songwriting, ideas for their style, and began finalizing the band name, which they would reveal to those auditioning when they applied. They worked on their craft each night, eagerly awaiting the next Saturday when they were going to find their new bandmates.
It was hell for the both of them to wait, but they finally had made it to Saturday.
They were to be set up in the band room, with a desk and several musical supplies in front of them, including the school jazz band's drum set. As the time towards the audition closed in, several people entered the room, which amazed both Thelen and Garrett. Though they had expected a turnout of maybe a dozen, the reality was that around 50 people showed, seemingly eager to try out. Garrett's eyes beamed, he and Thelen knew that today was going to be successful. He could feel it in his gut.
As the time came, they both stood from their seats and yelled for those here for the audition to gather round.
With that, Thelen began his speech.
"Thank you all for coming! I seriously cannot believe this turnout, and we're so thankful to have you guys here. Today, we're hoping to find some people whom we want to stick with us and make music for the world, and hopefully have a ton of fun along the way. Whoever we select, I know that we will become good friends, and our music will change some lives!"
Those auditioning clapped and cheered at his words, and many seemed to relax from their angst or just get a bit more excited!
With that, Garrett took over.
"Okay, so here are the rules. Each person plays one song on their instrument, and then we interview them shortly afterwards. Those whom show their skill will be invited to the band, which we can finally announce the name for."
We both counted to three and shouted the name we decided on over the week:
"Our band's name will be: Helios Awaken!"
Thankfully, everybody rather liked the name, at least that's what we made from the clapping.
And with that, the auditions were under way. Each one spanned from 5 to 10 minutes, with some ended horribly, while others were very talented for their instrument. Thelen was surprised beyond belief, he had no idea that such talent existed in the area! The high school and their area weren't exactly farm country, but still he only expected maybe 10 or 11 people to even ENJOY the music that they wanted to make. The fact that several dozen appeared really touched him.
After a few guitarists, a bluejay approached, guitar in hand. He was using an 8-string guitar, something that Thelen was very intrigued by, but never knew anybody who played one. As the bird started, he immediately recognized the tune and turned to Garrett, who did the same, but with his mouth agape.
He was playing "CAFO" by Animals As Leaders. And he was good. VERY good. The song incorporated several different scales and sweep picking the likes of which they both could barely comprehend, and yet this guy was almost perfect in execution. Even the solo a few minutes in was flawless.
After his performance, sweat pouring down his person, the bluejay approached them.
Garrett still had his jaw dropped, and Thelen couldn't help but stand up and clap.
"Okay, you're in. I don't even care what Garrett says over here. That was UNBELIEVABLE!"
Shyly, the bird replied, "Wow.... thank you."
Garrett, rearranging his face quickly, got up and shook the bird's hand.
"What is your name, dude?"
"Rory. Rory Adams."
"Well, Rory, aside from the fact that you can DEFINITELY play, tell us about yourself a bit!"
With that, the bird started. He was apparently adopted at a young age, raised on music by his parents, and recently moved to their neighborhood from out of state. Even better, he lived a mere 2 minutes from Garrett! Aside from that, he got along greatly with the two of them, so they felt their decision was easy.
"Well, Rory, welcome aboard! Can't wait to play music with you!" Thelen excitedly stated.
So, with a handshake and wave goodbye, Rory left, phone numbers and address in tow, awaiting their call for practice.
As three hours passed, the final 5 members to join them were decided. Thelen was almost too happy, he couldn't believe that the band was formed and ready! Their practice was something he couldn't wait to get into!
So, after a long day, the orca got out of Garrett's car, having arrived back at his house. Thelen waved goodbye, seeing the Machoke wave back, both with wide grins on what was to come. As he entered, his father quickly demanded the results, eager to hear who his son had decided. Though he worked all too frequently, he was still very interested in his son's musical endeavors, and this was no exception.
Happy to share the details, he pulled out a notepad, full of information on who was to join them.
The five who would join them were listed with good detail:
Name: Rory Adams
Instrument: Guitar
Song played: Animals As Leaders - "CAFO". Performance: 10/10
Info: Bluejay, uses an 8-string Ibanez guitar, Mesa Boogie head with Marshall cab. Ridiculously talented. Well received. Shy and a bit taken aback by our response to his playing.
Name: Darryl Unteran (DJ)
Instrument: Guitar
Song played: Threat Signal - "Comatose", Performance: 9/10
Info: Light gray dragon, black and white short mohawk. Uses 7-string, Marshall head and cab, Talented but best suited for rhythm guitar than lead. Also well received. Shy as well, but very strong once relaxed.
Name: Travis Morgan
Instrument: Drums
Song played: Between The Buried And Me - "Astral Body", Performance: 9/10
Info: Red dragon. Uses bigger drumset normally, details unavailable at the moment. Well received, relaxed, though subtly arrogant. Should be careful with.
Name: Maxwell Diboradd (Max)
Instrument: Synth, Programming
Song played: HORSE The Band - "Birdo" Performance: 10/10
Info: Attractive gator, uses several Korg products. Very talented, and very well received. Calm, relaxed demeanor.
At that his father couldn't help but chuckle.
"Attractive? VERY well received? Are you sure he's good and you weren't just gawking at him?"
At that, Thelen couldn't help but blush, red all over his face at this point. He hadn't noticed he had written that, but it was true. He was VERY attracted to the gator, whom not only was very talented, but was absolutely gorgeous. He was muscular, but not over the top, good tone, very clean face, and had long, though well kept brown hair. In retrospect, Thelen couldn't help but drool.
"Okay, back to who's left." Thelen said, still blushing.
Name: Natore Olyphanse (Nat)
Instrument: Vocals (Clean)
Song played: Periphery - "Scarlet" Peformance: 8/10
Information: Fox, shortest of selected. Has great potential with his voice, but we'll see what happens with more practice and strain on it. Well received overall. Energetic, but antsy as well. Good lyricist as well, something to think about when songwriting.
His dad couldn't help but grin. "I think you're onto something if these notes are true."
Thelen was actually rather surprised at that. "You think so?"
"Definitely! The last band you were in didn't have anything CLOSE to the talent you're describing here. If you guys can get in synch for writing, I think you have a great shot."
Thelen smiled back and hugged his father, knowing that he actually meant what he said, and he felt the same. This amount of talent was much bigger than he could've ever anticipated, and it really made him shudder when he thought of them all together for the first show. This could really turn into something great.
With that, he broke the embrace and went upstairs to bed. That night, he had a hard time falling asleep. His mind kept going back to the seven of them finally playing together. Helios Awaken had finally been formed, and Thelen was all to excited for them to get down to business...
