A fight of two brothers
A fragment from a drafted story I forgot about some time ago... This one had a fight scene I thought interesting and I chose to elaborate on it and see how it all worked out, seeing as I've always felt like I'm not very good at describing action sequences. I thought it'd make good practice.
Give me any thoughts you have, I'd be happy to hear them!
"Oh, for goodness's sake, Seth!" the blue-furred canine voiced his discomfort in a conceited, delicate tone as he made his way through the lifeless, industrial atmosphere of the power plant he was currently exploring in search of his brother. Everything was silent, save for the mechanical whirring of a few machines around the place and the sound of electric sparks flying out of some others. Despite being dedicated to the production of energy, the plant itself was sunk in pitch-black darkness, the only guiding light for the Ice-type coming from the reserve power the more vital machines used to illuminate their keys and panels.
Turning a corner, the Glaceon walked into a small "hallway" of sorts made up of several consoles on either side, many of them showing strong burn marks and spitting out sparks while some others seemed to have been lashed at, electricity pulsing from the gashes in their metallic covers. "Hmm... Small wonder the entire city has a power outage," he mused, walking towards what he could only assume were the main controls for the plant, having care not to get too close lest he got shocked, examining them and making of them what he could. "Now, I'm sure I could easily repair these..." he vainly huffed, "But I really can't risk electric hazards... My coat would be ruined for life!"
"Figures something like that would be your one concern," an answer echoed in the dark before a strong bolt of electricity flew at one of the machines, causing it to burst out sparks from the excess energy and lighting up the entire plant as the Ice-type jumped back in surprise, revealing the athletic, albeit spiky-looking frame of a Jolteon standing at the opposite end of the hallway, "What do you want, Edgar?"
"Oh, there you are! Where have you been, you truant?" the Glaceon replied, annoyed, "We've had a city-wide blackout for hours now! What's worse, they sent me to look for you here because this is where you were last seen; right at the heart of the problem! Why haven't you done anything to fix it?"
"Why would I?" Seth coldly replied with a serious expression, "I'm the one who caused it to begin with."
"Ah... So it's true, then," Edgar looked at his brother with an egotistical smile, "You changed sides."
"Are you out of it?" Seth began to pace around in a wide circle, his brother imitating him and keeping both Eons a safe distance from each other, "I'd never join Team Alma as long as I'm in control of my sanity! But I'm not gonna work with you guys either! I'm sick of being bossed around! Seth, go fix the power outage; Seth, go overlook the new turbine's installation; Seth, the power cable to my computer just tore, bring me a new one... I'm done with it all! I'm done with being everyone's tool for this kind of stuff!" he took a deep breath, eyes focused on the Glaceon, "I'm gonna live my own life now, Ed... Get out of here and tell 'em that."
"Hmph," Edgar let out a short, amused huff as he looked at Seth, his self-centered and overconfident smile still present, "So, the worst thing they feared is true and you've gone rogue? I'm under orders to bring you back safely, but they did say I could get violent if things got out of hand... Do give me a reason, brother!"
"Try it," Seth defiantly replied as he assumed a fighting stance, "See where it gets you."
"This is all for your own good, little brother," Edgar took a fighting stance of his own, "I don't know what you expect as an outcome to this fight, but I'll be sure to get you back home quickly once I'm done... I might even tell them you held your own against me if you behave!"
"Y'know... I've always wanted to paralyze you and see if that smug mouth of yours keeps running."
"It will," Edgar took no visible offense to his brother's words, continuing his cocky retort, "You'll be frozen long before you can try and do that."
"Got enough bite to back up your bark?!"
"We'll find out soon enough! Let's dance, little brother!"
Seth simply grunted at his sibling's response; had anyone else from Public Safety been sent to investigate they would have at least tried to talk him out of his current mindset... He'd even actually consider going back if they knew what to say, but Edgar had always been far too quick to act on what could be considered a threat. The Ice-type was very talented and professional, indeed, but his egotistical persona had long since gotten on the Jolteon's nerves. In fact, he could say it was one of the reasons he'd chosen to go off on his own. The truth was he'd already found the plant's controls damaged and unable to function when he arrived upset at the place; all he did was take his anger out on them and hide while he considered what to do before Edgar arrived.
And to his surprise, Edgar managed to make the first move as he jumped back and opened his mouth, firing out a stream of pale blue energy straight at Seth, who barely managed to jump aside seconds before the attack hit the ground he was just standing on, covering a small patch of it in ice. Not wasting any time, the Jolteon retaliated with his own attack, a barking out as a bolt of pure electricity burst out of his body and arched towards his brother, making contact and giving him a shock that made him grit his teeth before he just shook it off and got ready to make his own move again.
The Glaceon shook his head a bit to fully recover his grip on reality and his conceited smile, staring at his brother before letting out a loud "Take this!" as he leapt at the Jolteon, a silver glow encasing his diamond-shaped tail as he struck his brother with a strong swing to the left, the Jolteon being unable to react in time to avoid it, much to his own surprise given the natural speed advantage he had over the Ice-type. The blow sent him flying off to the left, but Seth managed to react in time, regaining his balance in the air as he shot off three small bursts of electricity at his brother which, while not too powerful, would make a good distraction in the brief seconds it would take for him to recover his ground.
"Hah!" Edgar expected that comeback, quickly jumping away as he launched his own shards of ice at the Jolteon, the electric jolts hitting him and knocking him back down to the ground at the same time the icy shrapnel did the same to his brother, both hitting the plant's floor and shaking off the other's attack as they readied to continue their assault.
"You're really getting on my nerves!" Seth let out as he charged energy within him before his fur ruffled out even more than usual and he shot a thick, dangerous-looking wave of electricity at Edgar, the Glaceon's eyes widening and his expression changing to a far more serious one as he managed to jump away from the attack at the last second, regaining his composure once he was certain he had taken no damage.
"Not bad, little brother," Edgar spoke in his usual way as he smiled in pure overconfidence at Seth, "But you're still lacking when it comes to style... When in battle, your opponent must be truly impressed! You have to be..." He paused as a dark aura began to surround him, concentrating in a large sphere in front of him. "A true artist!" he finished as he jumped towards his brother with a somersault, launching the Shadow Ball at him in midair and gracefully landing as sparks of dark, spectral energy glided down around him, eerily reminiscent of snow.
Seth, however, was faster to react this time, learning from the Iron Tail that slammed him that he shouldn't take his brother's speed for granted. He jumped in an arc above the Shadow Ball, blasting at it and Edgar with more of his weak jolts, the Glaceon leaning slowly to the side and avoiding the sparks not being able to move away as his brother was falling towards him with his hind legs raised at him, delivering a strong double kick into the Ice-type's face that made him stagger backwards with a grunt of pain.
Edgar regained balance and realized from the slightly warmer feeling in the right corner of his mouth that he was bleeding. His smile then changed from a conceited, overconfident one to a more savage-looking, baring his fangs at his brother as he tried to keep himself cool.
"That hurt me, little brother..." He said as the air in the power plant began to become less warm by the second, small ice crystals surrounding the Glaceon, who continued, "I don't care how... I'll bring you back..." the ice got thicker and thicker, and Seth could swear he felt the air starting to become harsh, looking around to see that what few machines were functional had stopped working, "...Alive or not!" Edgar finished as the air suddenly became strong as a hurricane and the dozens of thick ice crystals flew at him, knocking him away and bluntly pummeling against him with no mercy, the Jolteon's beating interrupted only once he crashed into a machine that managed to hold against the ice's onslaught. By the time the Blizzard subsided, Seth was bruised all over, panting heavily as he stepped out of the machine's wreck, sparks starting to burst out from his fur at random as the machines suddenly whirred back to life, the voltage indicators on some of them reaching a dangerous level.
"I've had enough of you!" Seth furiously barked, the electricity now powerful enough to make the machines around him overload, some of the turbines in the farther reaches of the plant even coming back online, "You and your stupid attitude are why I left in the first place! And even so, you refuse to leave me alone! I HATE you, Edgar! Leave me alone!" he finished as all the pent-up energy blasted out from him and towards Edgar, the Glaceon having no chance to dodge it as the lethal shock hit him full-force, only barely sparing his life as the Ice-type got back on his feet, panting heavily and on the verge of collapsing, just as Seth was.
Both brothers looked at each other and noticed the intent on each other's eyes... None of them was going for the kill, but they'd definitely make sure the other was out of commission for a long while. It was making the first move that would determine who would be the one winner in their fight, and neither of them was going to allow the other to do so.
Seth and Edgar charged with what few strength they had, the Glaceon letting out a jet of freezing energy as the Jolteon shot a bolt of electricity. Neither of them was prepared to move away, their anger leaving them focused on nothing but striking first.
It was over in an instant.
"Hah!" Edgar scoffed as he saw the Jolteon become slowly encased in ice with an angry expression, his hubris cut short as he felt his body tingle more and more, electric sparks jumping out of him, letting him know all-too-late that hadn't won either as his paralyzed body collapsed on the ground...
"Well..." the strange man walked into quite a scene as he saw the Glaceon and Jolteon incapacitated on the ground in front of him, the surrounding area encased in ice with several of the power plant's machines short-circuited and fried, "Aren't these two specialists from Public Safety...?" he let out an amused huff as he picked two strange devices similar to pokéballs from his coat pocket, "Two for the price of one... This should be interesting."
