#7 of Evolution

The 'intruder' in the Library is revealed, as well as some deeply buried feelings between two friends. Could it be that something is finally going right for our group of survivors?

Do we embrace change? Or do we fear it?

Some say that change is good, that life cannot move on without change. But how drastic the change is can affect just how accepting we are of it. Changing what you wear or what you eat....those are all minor. People expect minor change from one another. Hell, we expect that from ourselves. After all, we have the power to do it, so we should accept it, right?

But changing who and what you are? How you think? How you feel?

That's not so easy. But every once and a while, its worth it.

-May 20th (E-day+11)

The arrow shot from the bow in the blink of an eye, barely making a whisper of sound as it flew straight and true towards its target. Nate listened for the tell-tale sound of metal and wood puncturing into something solid, his heartbeat racing as he braced himself to potentially end a life. He had no choice...he had to act. Hesitation had cost him Auren, and now, Brandon and Riku's lives may very well depend on him. There was no second guessing, no chance to-

A blur of shadows moved before them, and the sound of something heavy swinging through the air, followed by the clattering of the arrow as it was batted aside and to the ground. Nate blinked, and automatically reached for another, intending to send it right down the beast's throat. Beside him, Brandon tensed up for a massive swing of his bicycle handlebars, as they spotted the movement coming at them. The arrow was in Nate's paw, ready to fly, when a clear voice made him freeze.

"Hold it, Pup!"

The wolf froze in place, his breath catching in his chest. The voice was not Brandon's, nor Riku's, but still he knew that voice. Beside him, the other two were stone stiff as well, they too recognizing the voice. But...it was impossible! Nate's mind raced with the possibility, the fantasy, the very idea that it could be him....but no! They saw him die in that collapsing building. It couldn't be......it couldn't....

"Auren?" he whispered into the darkness, hoping beyond hope.

There was a slight rumble from the gloom in front of them, as well as a soft clacking on the floor of the room. "I see you found your gift," came he amused reply, sounding even closer this time. Both Brandon and Riku whirled to each other, looks of disbelief on their faces, before all three of them nearly screamed.

"Auren?!"

The trio surged forward, intending on smothering that familiar voice with every ounce of hug they could muster, when his voice barked out again. "No, wait!"

Nate and they others stopped, now only a few feet from the source of their friend's voice. His senses told him Auren was right there, just out of arm's reach, hiding in the shadow where the light streaming on from the window couldn't reach. All he had to do was take a step and - "What is it?" the wolf asked softly. "It is you, isn't it?"

"Yeah....well, kinda," the reply said. There was a sigh in the darkness, and to Nate's sensitive ears, it sounded larger and heavier than he remembered. "Just...don't freak out or anything."

"Auren," the wolf whimpered, starting to understand. The cryptic words from their friend could only mean one thing, despite all their thoughts to the contrary. "I don't care what you look like....I just want to see you," Nate whispered, emotion leaking int his voice.

There was another sigh, before movement could be heard, and a form slowly slid into the light. All three of them held their breath as they looked down, seeing the large scaled claw step into the light, its silver color shining. It was heavy and wicked looking, the three thick claws clicking against the wooden floor. The leg it was attached to was muscled and corded, leading up to the remains of a pair of tattered jeans around the waist. Hard, cut abs rippled as the form moved into the illumination, making each of the three stir as their hormones started to rise involuntarily at the sight. The chiseled six-pack led up to an equally firm and ripped chest, the torso of the creature in front of them both lean and muscular. Its arms were thick, the biceps bulging against the taught silver scales that covered its frame, tracing down to a pair of paw-like hands at its side. A heavy swish met their ears, and they saw a flash of tail twitch from behind it, sliding along the dirty floor. Nate's eyes roamed over the form in front of him, before rising up to meet a pair of eyes that were equal in height to his own.

The moment he saw that electric blue, he knew it was true. There may have been a dragon standing before them, but all that mattered was that it was him.

Auren.

Auren felt nearly smothered from the round of bone-crushing hugs his trio of friends gave him, unable to stop the smile from crossing his face. Riku leaped at him, the smaller fox wrapping his arms around the muscled form of the dragon happily, his bushy tail twitching. Auren chuckled, and gave a few playful growls as he felt more than a couple gropes along his new frame, the fox's wandering paws exploring the new, scaly muscles. Brandon was different, whereas there was limited groping and just a crushing hug from the large stallion, the poor drake nearly wheezing from his strength.

Then, there was Nate. The wolf tried not to look as if he where ready to pounce the dragon, yet his tail was going a mile a minute, evidence as to just how happy he was to see his friend alive. Auren grinned, and held his arms open, only to have a rush of wolf fill them as the two embraced tightly. "I thought I lost you," Nate whispered, nuzzling the side of Auren's neck.

The dragon rumbled softly, rubbing his friend's back in a soothing gesture. "Well I'm right here, Pup," he said gently. "Bigger, scaly and silver, but its me."

"Yeah, speaking of," Riku yipped, eyeing the new form of their friend. He made a spinning motion with a paw, indicating he wanted Auren to show them his new form better. The dragon blushed lightly beneath his silver cheeks, but reluctantly complied and stood in the center of the illumination, turning slowly.

Roughly the same height as Nate was now, the silver scaled dragon was, in a word, ripped. His chest and abs could have been carved onto his body, the rippling muscles taught against the scaly skin. Arms and legs were equally as thick and corded, muscles bulging in all the right spots to make anyone want to give them a feel. His face was an angular muzzle with a rounded snout, framed by a strong jaw, and the hint of his front fangs peeking from behind his lips. Two horns curved out the back of his head from above his ears, curving along his head slightly, giving him an almost regal appearance. Two large, leathery wings were folded against his back, tucked in tightly to avoid getting caught on something. Looking at him from the front, one would almost miss them, save the tiny tips peeking over his shoulders. A thick tail flowed from his backside, almost longer than his arms, the tip of it swishing and curling around almost like a cat's would.

All that remained of his clothing was a tattered pair of jeans - that now looked more like jean shorts, the denim barely falling below his lower thighs. As all three of his friends noticed, there was a handsome bulge in the front of those shorts, evidence that their dragon had experienced some growth in that department too. "Damn," Brandon nickered, looking over Auren's frame. "How do you feel, man?"

The silver drake shrugged, and leaned back against a desk, inadvertently flexing his arms. "Tired, hungry, horny....the usual fare." He rolled his head, stretching out his neck. "This will take some getting used to."

"Well, on the bright side, you still appear to be male," Riku joked, gesturing to the front of Auren's torn shorts, still eyeing the dragon's large bulge. He licked his lips without noticing.

"Don't even think about it, foxy," Auren growled playfully, although he was smiling.

Nate chuckled, shuffling closer to the friend he thought he lost, trying his hardest not to let his own eyes wander around Auren's new shapely form. The warmth in his gut and groin were almost to hard to ignore, the dragon's scent a powerful musk now that he knew it was him. "You...uh....wanna talk about it?" he asked, nodding towards Auren.

The silver dragon sighed, rubbing his legs. "I suppose you guys are curious. Well, as far as I remember...."

//Flashback//

There was a sense of vertigo, blurred vision, and most of all, pain as Auren groaned and willed his battered body to move. He had no idea how long he had been out, but the sunlight filtering in was dimmer than he remembered. Blinking rapidly, he tried to focus his vision as his surroundings came into view. Laying on his back, he found himself staring up at what used to be a roof, now barely three feet above where he lay. Turning his head, ignoring the protests of pain from his body, he looked around to see he was laying beneath a large amount of debris, forming a small pocket of space around him.

He dimly remembered being hit by that minotaur and being sent flying into a building, but after that was black. The building must have collapsed, he groaned. Willing his body to move, he half-shuffled, half-slid further into the opening, allowing himself more room. His entire body ached, but given the circumstance, he didn't have to guess as to why. Arching his back, he gave a soft yelp as something dug hard into his chest, and he scrabbled at his jacket. His fingers caught on the pin that had once before been attached to his jacket, but now was sticking into his chest. He pulled the now-bloodied pin from its new home in his chest, growling under his breath as he shoved it in his pants pocket.

Taking a few deep breaths, Auren tried to figure out a way to get himself out of this enclosed space. He looked around, ignoring the protests of his body, when the warmth hit his gut and he gasped in surprise. The wave of warmth pooled in his stomach, before spreading out along his body, encompassing his entire frame. Panting, he groaned, feeling the pins and needles rush over him, and the realization hit him as he remembered what Nate had described when he changed. This was it. Somehow, he was infected, and now....

Arching his back, Auren groaned aloud as his skin rippled, muscles growing beneath the surface as he felt the growth begin, his bones creaking as he felt his body grew. Looking down at himself, he watched as his clothes bulged and strained as his body grew too large for them. His skin cracked into many tiny shapes and turned hard, gaining luster as they became scales. His feet swelled out as his boots ripped, his normal human feet now grown into wicked looking claws. His legs bulged out as his jeans ripped, the scaly legs thick and corded. Auren's chest and abs buzzed as the muscles grew in, his abdomen rippling as his already handsome musculature getting harder and more defined.

As his torso changed, he moaned again as he felt his face and head begin to change as well. His mouth pushed out into a rounded muzzle as lumps grew out from behind his ears, breaking the skin to reveal the bone-white horns. His hair fell out as the scales raced over his entire body, almost illuminating the enclosed space with their shine. He felt his mouth itch as if there were dozens of ants inside, his pitiful human teeth growing and multiplying into the deadly fangs of a dragon. Along his back, he felt a stretching sensation as lumps grew larger and down his back, and he knew it was most likely a set of wings.

Watching his body change, Auren's mind raced. Would he remain himself, or lose his mind to the feral side of the infection? Even as the warmth continued to pulse through his body, he felt the instincts and lust begin to rise in his mind, making him groan as the warmth of transformation reached his groin. Unable to stop himself, Auren pulled down the remains of his jeans to watch as his cock throbbed and began to morph as well. The shaft grew longer and thicker, surpassing its old size and continuing to grow as it became black and adopted a ridged appearance. The base grew the thickest, a swollen bulb of a knot forming as the length reached a foot, and he let out a guttural growl of lust. Unable to stop himself, Auren reached down to stroke his newly grown cock furiously feeling it swell and throb in his hand.

It didn't take more than a few minutes, before his growing and changing body reached its completion, and the newly formed dragon continued to paw himself off desperately, his now lust filled mind urging him to reach that first peak. He felt his cock swell as his knot grew to twice its normal size, feeling like a softball in his hands as he jerked it urgently. With a roar, Auren arched his back and came all over his new muscled chest, painting his silver chest with lines of white.

Panting, he fell still as the rush of orgasm flooded him, laying back as he rubbed his thobbing and swollen cock. His lusty mind growled in pleasure at how much of a stud he was now, knowing he was capable of burying that thick meat in anything he found with his muscular body. Nnngh..no...gotta keep it together, he groaned, shaking his head to clear the haze of post-orgasm bliss. Struggling back into his torn pants, he embarrassed shoved his large cock into the fabric, as he resumed his struggle to free himself.

Gotta get out.....and find the others....

//End Flashback//

"....and I came back here, knowing you three would show up eventually," the dragon finished, looking around at his similarly changed friends. The trio had been enraptured as Auren described his transformation, noticing all three of them each gave themselves a rub along the groin as he described the more lusty bits.

"But, why a dragon?" Nate asked, trying to keep his eyes from gluing themselves to Auren's ripped frame.

Shrugging, the muscled dragon sighed. "I think it may have been Sam." At the shocked looks of his friends, he quickly explained. "The other day when he took my jacket off, he complained about pricking himself on the pin. I guess some of his blood was on it, and when it got jabbed into me..." The others nodded in understanding, quickly trying to forget the images of Auren and Sam in a compromising position, lest the tents in their pants become more pronounced.

"How did you know we'd come back here?" Brandon asked, tilting his head, partially eager to change the subject.

Parting his jaws in a brilliant, fanged smile, the dragon turned to face Nate. "I know my Pup. I figured he would suggest coming back here to gather things to move us to the club. I would have done the same." Hearing the affection in Auren's voice, Nate's stomach did a few flips, making him blush.

"Speaking of which," Riku pipped up, pulling his paw away from the bulge in his own shorts. "We should do that, and get out of here. No doubt the scent of all of us in here is acting like a beacon to all those equally lusty beasts out there."

Nodding, Auren stood and moved to follow the fox and stallion towards the basement where the remainder of their things were. Nate watched his friend move across the floor, eyeing the fluid grace his muscled form gave off as he moved. Shaking his head to clear the lusty thoughts building at the dragon's musky scent, he called out, "Wait..."

Auren stopped and tilted his head at his friend. "Nate?"

The wolf blushed and rubbed his arm sheepishly, feeling suddenly shy about showing his feelings, even if it was slight. "I....its good to have you back, Auren."

Again, that killer slow smile graced the dragon's features. "Good to be back, bud. My place has always been with you." As the words left his mouth, both friends blushed and averted their gaze, not expecting the feelings the simple statement invoked. After another few moments of awkward silence, the pair of them headed for the basement to gather their things, although the glances back and forth were not hidden as much as they were before.

The return trip to the Wolf's Den was equal parts torturous as it was enjoyable. With Auren now back among them, the four friends found themselves joking and laughing like it was old times as they traced their way back to the bar downtown. Having a friend whom you thought was dead reappear like nothing was wrong was like a drug, and everyone had a smile on their face. After all that they had been through, it felt kinda nice to smile again.

However, if Nate ever let his eyes linger on Auren's new form for more than a few seconds, those happy thoughts turned to ones much more lustful, and confusing. When he had thought Auren was gone, the wolf berated himself for not letting his friend know about all these knew feelings he was having towards him. He had told himself that he would give anything to see Auren again, just so he could tell him how he felt. Yet, now here his friend was, in the body of a studly dragon, and Nate stumbled over his tongue every time he tried to say something. It was like he couldn't bring himself to admit that - despite all that had happened - Auren had become very important to him.

This internal battle lasted all the way back to the bar, where Auren gave a sigh of relief upon seeing the familiar building. "Ah...good to be back," he rumbled, the deep baritone sound making Nate's stomach flutter and his tail wag involuntarily. Still, he had to agree with the dragon; the Wolf's Den may not look as good as she did before the outbreak, damage apparent all over the building and her neighbours, but right now, she was a most welcome sight indeed.

As soon as they entered the door, Auren felt his face heat up as nearly every set of eyes in the place turned and locked onto him. He could almost feel the lusty thoughts directed his way by some of the patrons, and his own mind started wandering down that path, as he felt the denim shorts he wore get a little tighter in the front. The others must have saw this, because he heard Riku let out a yipping laugh, and a dainty paw clapped against his backside. "Yup, its official," he chuckled. "You're a stud, bro."

Auren simply blushed and ducked his head, moving over towards the bar where an equally surprised Sam stood with his mouth half open. "Hiya, Sam," the silver drake rumbled, causing his crimson companion to blink rapidly.

"A-Auren?" Sam asked incredulously. Looking over his friend's new body he couldn't help but admire it. Then, seeing the looks on his companion's faces, he quickly raised his hands in defense. "We didn't do anything, I swear!"

A soft chuckle from the silver dragon, and he waved Sam down. "Its alright, Sam. I think it was from my pin. You caught a finger on it, remember?"

"Right....right..." the red drake mumbled, shaking his head to keep his own thoughts from rising. Then, seeing the hefty packs the four all carried, he guessed the rest. "Nate had told me you were thinking of moving here to stay," Sam said with a true smile now. Reaching into his pocket, he handed his silver counterpart a pair of keys. "Two rooms, and they're all yours."

Taking the keys, Auren grasped the other dragon's paw with his own. "Thanks, Sam."

"Welcome back," the crimson drake purred, patting his friend's hand.

Auren nodded, then turned back to his friends to lead them upstairs, where their new rooms awaited. Handing Brandon and Riku one key, he used the other to open a door at the end of the hall, while the other pair disappeared into a room a few doors down. Auren and Nate entered their room to find it a spacious hotel room, complete with a king-size bed and a small sitting area. Dropping their packs off in the corner, Auren hopped onto the bed with a sigh, stretching out across one half of the large cushion. "Ah.....nice and comfy."

Nate couldn't help but chuckle at the sight, seating himself on the edge of the bed, his back to the dragon. Staring somewhere between his feet and the wall, the wolf took a few deep breaths to steady himself. It was almost automatic the way he and Auren just assumed they would room together, and that only intensified the thoughts already racing about in the wolf's head. Here was his chance, alone with Auren. Maybe now was as good a time as any to-

Nate nearly started as he felt a pair of arms slide around his waist from behind, as Auren's head came to rest on his shoulder. "Nate? What's bothering you?"

"Er..." The wolf's tongue was caught in his throat at the surprise contact. The warmth in his cheeks was matched only by the warmth that flooded his stomach and groin.

"You've seemed distracted ever since the Library," the dragon said, his tone gentle and affectionate, even as his muzzle was inches from the wolf's neck.

Nate hoped the heat in his face wasn't showing, even though he knew his ears were burning. Auren had never been so....forward in his physical contact before. Granted, now that he had transformed like the rest of them, he no doubt had a wild and lusty side to contend with. That was evident to him ever since they reunited, and he noticed the dragon had adopted a certain playful side and demeanor, instead of the more stoic and serious youth he had been before. Was that why he was suddenly so friendly? "Auren...I," the wolf began, fidgeting while the drake held him. "I wanted to talk to you about something."

"Like what?" his scaled friend asked, his arms making a slow rubbing motion along the wolf's chest and belly, making the heat in Nate's face multiply. The head on his shoulder was so close...all he had to do was turn and their lips-

"About us," Nate managed to whisper out, keeping himself in check, although the heat in his face was rapidly rushing to his groin at feeling the dragon pressed against him.

The wolf's breath caught in his throat as he felt the muzzle on his shoulder give his neck the smallest nuzzle. "You know you can talk to me about anything, Pup." came the purred response. Nate fidgeted again, suddenly uncomfortable with the contact. His ears folded back against his head as he stood up, pulling himself away from the suddenly affectionate dragon. "Nate?"

"Sorry, but that isn't helping," the wolf growled gently, turning to face his friend. The heat in his groin almost grew painful as he felt his shorts become tighter in the front. He saw the half-sprawled form of his draconic friend before him, that muscular body looking so damn inviting as he looked almost sultrily back at the wolf. I can't do this, Nate sighed to himself. He's clearly not thinking straight...must still be battling with his new libido. "I want to talk to you about something serious, but you seem to be dealing with some lusty thoughts right now-"

"What? Because I hugged you?" the dragon suddenly snorted, growing defensive quite quickly. His eyes narrowed and his tail lashed behind him. "Honestly, Nate, I think you'd know me a little better than that." The wolf nearly stumbled at the instant change in demeanor, blinking in surprise.

"I...I didn't mean..."

"Yes, this new form comes with quite the heavy libido," Auren growled, sitting up straight. "And I can safely say I know how you three feel now. But come on Nate...you think I'd really just try and randomly start something with you? Of all people?"

"No- wait, me? What do you mean 'me of all people'?" the lupine suddenly snapped, catching the curt edge of the dragon's words.

The electric blue eyes had a hard sheen to them as they stared back at his friend. "Nate, I'm not blind," Auren said simply. "Nor am I ignorant to see what has been going on these past few days." The wolf's stomach did a small flip and his heartbeat started to pick up. Did that mean Auren knew? "Anyone with half an ounce of sense could see what was starting to build up here," the dragon continued, looking straight on at the wolf he called his friend.

Nate's mind raced as he tried to think of something non-confrontational to say. "Yeah...but....I know how hard it is the first day to...well...think straight," he finally said, mentally wincing at how lame it sounded. "I just didn't want to-"

The dragon snorted and stood up, coming to stand face-to-face with the silver-furred lupine. "Yes, okay I'll admit it. I'm damn horny right now. I have been since I took this form. But that doesn't mean I'm incapable of thinking straight." His eyes met Nate's, and the wolf saw the truth in his words. "Don't mistake a simple act of affection for a sign that I'm going to pounce you."

"I'm sorry," Nate mumbled, rubbing his arms and looking away. "Its just....I've been battling with some serious thoughts, some of which are a result of this infection, and I didn't want to act on them just because you might be having a problem with your own libido."

Auren's eyes softened, and he took a step closer, his tail swishing behind him. "Thoughts? About me?"

"Yes," the wolf finally admitted. "The past few days, I found myself thinking of you as...well...maybe more than just a friend." Saying those words removed a immense weight from Nate's chest, but almost immediately, it was replaced with a sense of defeat. "I was going to tell you yesterday, when at least one of us still had common sense. But now...we're both infected, and horny, and not thinking straight..."

A small chuckle came from the dragon, one that was neither angry or sarcastic, and it made the wolf's ears perk up. "Nate," Auren said softly, bringing a paw up to cup his friend's jaw. "I'm not gonna deny that there is a part of me now who wants to go downstairs and get it on with the first person to lift their tail. It was pretty obvious when I walked in that more than a few people down there want some of this." A flash of a grin lit up the room, making Nate smile along with him without thinking, and his heart began to race. "But ask yourself, Pup," Auren went on. "If I could go down there and get my rocks off with any random person....why did I lock myself in room with only you?"

Nate blinked, hearing the words but not believing them. "You mean..you...feel the same....about me?"

Auren never answered. Instead he leaned forward until their mouths touched gently, their lips mingling in a soft, but very real kiss. Nate's knees wobbled at the brief contact and his groin pulsed with warmth. The gentle kiss lasted a mere second or two, but it spoke volumes. "I always have," Auren breathed, his voice barely more than a whisper. Without realizing it, Nate's paws had slid around the dragon's waist, Auren's own hand wrapped around his back as the other stroked his cheek. "Maybe this is partially from the lust," the drake admitted, before smiling again. "But maybe its just helping me say something that I already knew, and was just afraid to say."

Holding his best friend in his arms, just like his fantasies had played out, Nate couldn't help the huge smile that parted his jaws. He told Auren how he felt, and now, the youth-turned-dragon was telling him the same in return. Their snouts touched and rubbed ever so gently together, making the warmth in their bodies grow and pulse in time with the beat of their hearts, sending blood to all the right places. "So...what should we do about that?" the wolf growled, letting his lusty thoughts finally have their way without restraint.

"Well....I did lock the door...."

/////////////////////////////////////

Well now....it seems some romantic tension has finally been resolved. Which means, yes my friends, this story will finally see some yiff!

Doesn't mean I don't still have a plot lined up. But after all the drama up to this point, I think I'm finally ready to introduce some regular sex scenes along with the story.

Starting with one very horny wolf, and one equally horny dragon. :P
