Origins of Thanos

The wave crashed on the cliff again as I got a little spray of water on my face. The sun had already risen by the time I was sitting on the edge of the cliff, looking out at the vast ocean. I turned my head and saw the castle that was barely visible a night, was nowhere to be seen in the rich blue sky.

"I don't think I can handle this. Where the hell did my life go wrong?"

Another wave crashed onto the cliff as more water sprayed my face. I flopped backwards on the grass looking into the blue sky above. Inside the castle, my reflection appeared on the wall as Nappa looked at it angrily. He balled his fists as small waves of power flowed from his body. Turning his back in disgust, he walked back to where Zalbag was standing.

"My lord Thanos, I still don't understand why the stone of Light refused to join the others on your hand? Clearly the stone belongs to you" Zalbag said.

Thanos stood in the middle of a pentagram that was glowing slightly giving the empty room an eerie feeling. The gargoyle statues casted their shadows gloomy around the room. Over Thanos's head was what appeared to be a mini version of the solar system. Each planet had every from Saturn's rings, to Jupiter's giant red spot. Way off in the corner of the room, a huge ball of orange fire, 3x the size of Jupiter, was heading towards it.

"That's because the light stone has developed a tight bond with him. I wasn't the least bit surprised when it didn't leave his body, just like Ramza."

"But doesn't he pose a threat to us my lord?" Nappa asked.

"He poses little to no threat to me unless he unleashes the true power of the stone. Until he does, don't worry about him. Now leave me, I still need more rest from my awakening" Thanos said sitting down in a drone position closing his eyes.

"Yes my lord" and they disappeared, reappearing outside his room.

They walked down the hall as moaning voices could be heard from all angles of the castle. Spears with skulls impaled on them were lined up on the grimy black walls as torches lit the way from Thanos's chamber. Walking down the stairs, they saw slaves being whipped as the guards forced them to work harder on rebuilding some of the foundation inside that was destroyed during the war. The cracking of the whip and the yells of pain seemed to please Nappa as he and Zalbag walked outside.

"He still poses a threat to us. As long as he hold the Light stone in his body, he's dangerous." Nappa said as his pale white eyes observed the surroundings.

The dead earth the castle was on was cracked and dried up like a well. Craters and hole from the great war covered almost every inch of the ground. Skeletal remains lay scattered along the ground as vultures pecked away what was left of it. Molten lava flowed down the mouth of the volcano creating a stream that flowed into the moat surrounding the castle. Thick black smoke rose from its mouth as it mixed with the blood colored sky. The smell of sulfur was strong but it didn't seem to bother Nappa or Zalbag at all.

"What if he discovers this power and learns how to use it against us like Ramza did? I think leaving him alone isn't a wise decision" Nappa said stepping on a skull as it shattered into dust.

"You heard what lord Thanos said, don't worry about it" Zalbag replied kneeling down to pet the head of the black cerberus that was standing guard. It wore a collar made of bones on each neck as all 3 heads let out a small murr as he rubbed under their chins.

"Well I'm not going to wait until he discovers this power. Hellmaster come forth."

The lava in the moat bubbled as a huge lave sprout shout up in the air. The cerberus let out a growl as a huge, brown minotaur came from the sprout and stepped onto the ground. "You summoned me my master" he said in a deep powerful voice.

"Go and keep an eye on this boy. If he does anything out of the ordinary, report back here at once" Nappa said firmly.

"It shall be done my master" and he disappeared in a blaze of fire.

I was still enjoying the cool sea breeze, lost in my thoughts when I heard my comm go off.

"Ultimus, where are you?" Tasha voice asked.

"Ok, I'm on my way."

Everybody was chatting away when I walked in. I was greeted by Tasha who gave me a hug. She noticed I didn't hug her back because my eyes were locked on my father. I pushed her aside gently and walked towards my father. Stopping inches away, he got up and held his head done. He looked up in time to see me give him a good left hook, sending him down to the ground.

"Ultimus what's gotten into you?" my mom yelled coming over to my father.

"It's ok Rose. I kind of expected that" he said rubbing his jaw.

He looked up to see my hand extended to him. He accepted and I pulled him up. He sat back down at the table as I walked around to sit in front of him. Putting his hands under his chin, he looked around at all of us then closed his eyes.

"I know asking for forgiveness is stupid so I won't even try. I've done too many things that can't be undone."

"You god damn right you did. Because of you the world's in a shit load of trouble" Crystal yelled.

"Crystal that's enough" Rose said firmly. He just crossed his arms and turned his head away in disgust.

"The only thing I can do now is to unright the wrong I did. Thanos must be stopped at all cost."

"What can you tell me about Thanos?" I asked.

"I can't tell you much. The only thing I can tell you is that he's a being of immense power. Everything else is a mystery to me" Xellos said.

"I see" I said leaning back in the chair with my arms crossed. "Hey Theft, have you found out anything about him?"

"I did a check on my database. The only information that came up was that he was one of the 4 gods of the world. Everything else came up as incomplete or unknown." Theft said drinking coffee.

"So that means the only way to find out anything about him is to find the Claire Bible" I said sighing.

"Claire Bible? Since when have you become a holy man?" Chris said with a laugh. I gave him an evil look and he quieted down.

"How did you find out about this bible?" my mom asked.

"When I was incapacitated, the stone somehow told me a little bit about it. It also told me about an attack powerful enough to destroy him."

"Well that's great. He should be no problem then" Greywolf said happily.

"But there's a slight drawback of using this attack" I said closing my eyes.

"What's the drawback?" Tasha asked.

"If I make the slightest error or lose my thoughts, I could destroy the earth myself."

The room went quiet.

"Let me guess, this attack is called the "Ragna Blade"?" my father said with a smile.

"How'd you know?"

"When I was possessed by him, I saw a little bit of his past. This attack is the one thing he fears the most. I thought that attack was just a myth, but it appears I was wrong."

"That's why I'm going to Japan to search for the bible. This is what the stone told me to do. I'll be leaving tomorrow because I want to spend some more time to myself."

"Fine, we'll make arrangements to leave tomorrow. Agreed?" my mom said looking around the room.

Everybody nodded their heads in agreement.

"No. This is something I have to do myself" I said getting up and walking towards the door.

"Ultimus you can't be serious" Tasha said running in front of me. "I'm going with you."

"Not this time Tasha, I'm going alone."

"I'm going with you, end of story."

"NO YOUR NOT" I said raising my voice to everyone's surprise, even Tasha's as she jumped a little. "I'm sorry, but this is something I have to do alone. This is my problem now, and I don't want to get you guys involved any further then necessary."

She looked at me as tears collected in her eyes. She raised her hand and covered her face as she ran out the room crying.

I let out a deep sigh as the sound of a door slamming could be heard down the hall.

"Aren't you going to go after her?" Annabelle asked.

"Wow, I never seen him like this before" Tiger said shocked.

"It's hard for him" my father said getting up to leave as well. "He knows the fate of the world rests in his hands. He would rather take the fall by himself then let those he care about get hurt. Give him some space for now."

Everybody got up and went their separate ways except for Annabelle who went to see Tasha. She was lying on the bed crying away when she walked in. She sat down next to her and put her hand on her shoulder.

"He does care about you Tasha, very deeply. His mind is just very focused on the situation at hand."

A small bird perched on a tree outside over heard the whole conversation and flew off into the air. It arrived at the castle and landed on the window sill. "I said I'm going alone."

"Didn't you hear what I said" my mom said putting down her fork.

"I'm coming because I care about you and want to help you."

"I told you I wanted to go alone."

"If we hit that water we're finished" my father said.

The ocean got closer by the second as alarms went off. I closed my eyes as we went down with a splash. I thought the plane was going to implode but it didn't for some reason as a small barrier of light could be seen around it. We glided down deeper into the water as the light started to fade. Nestled in between a barrier or rocks, a small city came into view. The city appeared to be in ruins as the only thing standing was a temple. 4 flashing red lights started flashing on the launch pad. We got closer as the barrier around the plane dissolved into an invisible wall that surrounded the city. Inside, the plane landed on the pad as we jumped out to look at our surroundings.

"Where are we?" Tasha asked looking around.

"That's a question I would like to have the answer to" I replied to her.

"Welcome to the ancient city of Star Ocean. I have been waiting for you" a female eagle morph said walking out into the open.

Her body was covered in a white silk robe that dragged on the ground. The wings on her back were folded back and neatly groomed. The feathers on her arm were smooth and grayish in color which ran up to her face. Her eyes held an emerald jade color to them as her black hair was tied into a ponytail between her wings.

"Who are you?" my father asked.

"Please forgive my rudeness. I am Luna, keeper of the Claire Bible. I was informed of your presence by the light stone so I know everything about what's going on. Follow me. I will lead you to what you seek."

She walked down the hall as we followed her. The place could pass as a great aquarium for kids. All different kinds of fish were swimming by from goldfish to humpback whales as we looked on with amazement. The floor leading from the launch pad to the city was covered in white marble and very shiny as our reflections could be seen a mile away. Building wreckage covered the floor as we made our way to the temple. There were really no walls as the whole place seemed to be covered by an invisible glass. We entered the temple and walked down a set of stairs in the back. Torches lit up as we walked down further.

"How old is this place?" I asked.

"This place has been around for hundreds of years" Luna said looking back at me.

"What to the people that lived here?"

"They all died out or were hunted down by Thanos's army. Ah, we are here" she said as we walked to a door that appeared to be unopenable.

"How does it open?" my father asked.

She smiled as she walked up to the door, placing her hand right in the middle. Closing her eyes, I felt a small aura of power around her as the wind inside pick up making the door rippled like a wave. Strange hieroglyphics appeared as the door went transparent showing a pedestal inside with a crystal orb resting on top.

"Ultimus, please enter the Sacrificial Chamber. All your questions will now be answered" she said pointing me in the direction of the pedestal.

I hesitated a little as I walked up to the door. Reaching my hand out, I touch the door as my hand went straight through it. Taking a deep breath, I walked in. When I was through, the door went solid again leaving me in total darkness except for the light the orb was emitting. Walking over to it, I picked it up causing it to glow brightly. I placed the orb back down and backed up a little as a flash of bright light blinded me. When my vision was clear, a huge dragon coiled up like a snake, was staring down at me. It eyes were black as its body was leaf green.

"Welcome Ultimus" it said as its voice echoed around the empty room. "I have been expecting you, what is it that you wish to know?"

"I want to know more about Thanos?"

"Very well" it said as its eyes glowed causing the room to glow bright again as I closed my eyes.

When I opened them, I was in a room with 5 people. One of them was Luna, as she was standing next to what appeared to be a kid sitting on the throne chair. He had on a red and black suit with a hat that had a feather in it on the side. To his left was a kangaroo dressed in all green armor holding a halberd in his hands. His white hair was in a pony tail coming over his shoulder as his grey eyes stayed locked on the person in front of the kid. Next to him was a silver wolf dressed in all white armor. His tan eyes held the look of strength and compassion but right now they were full of anger. The gold hair he had flowed freely behind him as the sword on his waist belt gleamed brightly.

"What's going on here?" I asked.

"Watch, this is how it all began."

"The Power stones are not to be used for that kind of thing. They are used to help people" the kid on the throne said angrily.

"The stones are too powerful just to help these puny weaklings. What they need is a ruler, and I will be that one" Thanos said looking at the kid.

"You dare defy Lord Soa" the kangaroo said angrily.

"And what if I am? I'm sick of just helping these weaklings without anything in return."

"You are one of the 4 Gods of the World. I took you in when nobody wanted you. I gave you the power to help those in need. How dare you betray me" Soa said angrily balling his fists.

Thanos looked over at Luna and held out his hand towards her.

"Luna, come with me. I will give you the world and everything in it my love."

Luna eyes turned sad as she held her head down.

"I'm sorry, but my loyalty belongs to Soa. Please don't make me choose Thanos. I love you. Stay here with me and I'm sure Lord Soa will forgive you."

"I'm sorry, but I can't say here under this false leadership. So I'll say it one last time, come with me and live like the queen I will treat you to be. Or stay here, and suffer the wrath and destruction I will bring upon this kingdom and the world?"

Luna stayed put as Thanos's eyes grew with rage and hurt.

"Very well, I see you have made your choice. From this day forth, you do not exist in my eyes."

Thanos turned his back and started out the door before he stopped short.

"Oh yeah, I almost forgot to take MY stones."

"What do you mean your stones?" the wolf said with a growl.

Thanos smiled and reached into his pocket, pulling out 2 red gloves. Slipping them on, he raised his both hands in the air as he began to glow.

"Power stones come to your new master."

The stones began to glow as they went towards Thanos. The wolf held his chest as the Light stone responded to the summoning.

"Come on Ramza, give up the Light stone. It belongs to me and no one else."

"Never" Ramza said angrily.

The rest of the stones lined up in the slots on his gloves as he laughed madly.

"This is the beginning of the end for you MY lord Soa. I will bring upon you, a new world order."

"You bastard" the kangaroo said and charged him.

Thanos stood there laughing. When he got close enough to strike, a figured appeared out of nowhere and blasted him back with extreme power. The roo let out a yell as he tumbled backwards on the ground.

"Alucard" Soa said and ran to his side.

Alucard had a huge black mark on his chest plate that appeared to be eating away at his armor bit by bit. Soa took it off as the armor dissolved into ashes.

"Are you ok?" Ramza asked.

"Yeah, just got the wind knocked out of me. Whatever hit me, packs one hell of a punch."

They looked over to see Thanos guarded by Nappa, Zalbag, and Tyrant's true form. He had long hair that was crimson red along with eyes. He wore a brown leather vest with a black shirt underneath. Baggy black pants covered his legs as he wore sandals on his feet. Sliver amulets covered both his left and right wrist which glowed with raw power.

"Meet my personal army. I hand picked them myself. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a world to conquer."

"I'm warning you one last time" Soa said angrily. "Do not start a war you cannot win."

"Idle threats mean nothing to me. Prove me wrong on the battlefield."

He started laughing again as the whole room went white again.

"What happened after that?" I asked.

"The War of the Gods. Thanos's army was strong and took no mercy on anybody who dared to get in his path. Tyrant alone could wipe out a single planet all by himself with the power he possessed. Soa called in help from all the people he knew and trusted. It was a long, hard, terrible battle that raged on for 3 years. Many innocent people lost their lives."

"How did Tyrant end up in the Light stone?"

I was quiet for a minute as I felt my chest where the stone was. I could've sworn I could feel the stone's emotions as if it remembered everything.

"Did he manage to kill Thanos?"

"No. Thanos still had much power left and the stones were feeding him in his rage. Before Ramza died, he told Soa to combine his soul to the Light stone and use him to seal Thanos away in stone for all of time."

"So that's who it was that was speaking to me when Thanos was revived."

I was about to ask another question when the ground shook a little.

"What's going on?" I asked confused.

"It sounds like a battle is going on. You must go help them. Remember, you are the only hope the world has in defeating Thanos once and for" it said before disappearing.

I ran outside to see everybody fighting this huge minotaur. All their attacks seemed to go right through him.

"Who the hell is this guy?" Xellos said out of breath.

"Foolish mortals, your attacks can't hurt me. Now step aside, all I want is Ultimus and the Claire Bible."

He looked at the door to see me stepping out.

"Ah there you are, just in time too. "Astral Vine"

A wave of darkness came at me. I manage to jump out of the way just in time as it connected with the door, destroying it.
