Captivity - Jaye's Story - Chapter 5

When I woke up the next morning, I was covered in so much blood. It was half dried into my fur while some that hadn't quite congealed yet was still dripping off of me. It still smelled lovely, but the bodies surrounding me were already decaying, which was masking the delicious smell with a horrid stench of rotting flesh. The aroma kept infiltrating my sinuses and settling into my nostrils. I couldn't help but cringe and move quickly away from them.

I took a couple steps back from the bodies and couldn't help but look back at my mess. The corpses were laying everywhere, some thrown in a heap, others scattered about. It appeared that a tornado had ripped through this small village in one night and had destroyed almost everything, leaving only ruins as hints of what had occurred. I couldn't afford any untied strings though.

As I poked a couple of their limp bodies to see if they were really dead, I glanced around and glimpsed the shadow of a scared child running around, probably looking for his father whom I'd slaughtered into pieces. Then, something grabbed my ankle.

I shot backwards, wings exploding open and pushing me back on instinct. It couldn't be, I had killed them - and yet, one had grabbed my leg. I looked at the piles of men on the street, and some were attempting to get up, even those who I had ripped off limbs. What the hell was happening? This wasn't natural, but then again, I, myself, was just an experiment meant to ensure a woman's survival. One man was trying to get to his feet, but I about fell over when I saw his face. Although it was bloodied beyond belief, the skin underneath was healing, and his smile was petrifying. He had small fangs where his canines should be. They were subtle and smaller than mine, but they definitely weren't human.

I reached up and touched my fangs and then looked down at them. There was a black substance mixed in with the scarlet blood. Had I injected something into them? This black wasn't like the acid that had come out of my eyes before. This stuff didn't sting. Had I turned them into something while I was giving into my blood lust?

I found Emily's tattered lab coat on the ground by a doorway while slowly backing away from the rising undead. I held it in my paws, allowing my mind to retract from the mutants laying in the blood, and just rubbed the fabric between my claws. She had saved my life, and I went and took many others away. What a worthy sacrifice she had made. I held the coat closer to me, accidentally tearing a claw through it, adding to its many rips. Fuck. Why did Jon leave me for the Nazis?! Was he trying to prove something or had he thought I was a lost cause? No, it couldn't have been that. I remembered him leaning down, my neck feeling like it was on fire, as shrapnel sunk deeper into my stomach and arms. It was all coming back to me suddenly, but why now while I stood here, naked, covered in blood?

The grenade's metal pieces sticking out of my chest hadn't hurt as much as I felt they should have for my body had gone into shock. Everything seemed like it was numbing, to the point where my head felt like it was underwater. I could barely hear Jon when he was shouting at me. He didn't seem concerned though, he just seemed determined to keep me awake until he knelt down to me. I held my paw to my head and shuddered as I tried to remember what had happened, but everything was too hazy after that. I held the coat in my paws for a couple more moments before a snarl behind me shook me from my thoughts.

I turned around to face five men now on their feet, slowly staggering towards me - the leader of them wearing a terrifying smile across his face, showing off his new fangs. I lowered my wings behind me and swung the torn coat around me, trying to retain some comfort from it, but it wasn't working as the one flanking the leader suddenly sprinted towards me - his jaws snapping open and shut as his bright red eyes locked onto me. Oh, God, and he was fast too. I side-stepped just in time for him run past me, almost slashing my torso. I tried to keep my eyes on the other four while the crazy banshee slid across the pathway, attempting to turn back around for another try at me.

"Look what you've created, miss!" the leader spit out through his fangs. "You are royally terrible at performing a massacre," he continued as he held his arms out straight. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I had killed him last night, snapped his neck and broke his collarbone, even ripped off his foot trying to get a grip onto him. Now he was walking towards me, talking to me, on the verge of threatening my new life.

I heard the shuffle of feet again as the quick one dashed again. I opened my wings up swiftly and flew vertically, narrowly avoiding his claws.

"You think you can avoid us forever?" He challenged me, pointing his finger at the one to his left. "Now, Ernest, think you can catch her?" He growled at his companion. The one named Ernest, let loose a bloodcurdling scream. The sound echoed throughout the valley as a tearing sound erupted from his spine, a new pair of wings separating from his skin and, blood-covered, stretching out for the first time. His eyes were locked onto me while he roared loudly, blood dripping down his sides and his wings.

The quick one was still occupied trying to jump for my ankles as I hovered backwards a bit before the ringleader gave a nod, signaling Ernest to come after me. I was able to glance quickly past the small group to see that a couple more bloodied corpses were getting up. Some had absolutely no emotion while others looked extremely hungry. The one below me somehow managed to scratch my toe as I was preoccupied watching the hungry ones suddenly run towards the alleys. I winced at the small scratch and hovered a little higher, hearing the quick one's whimpers of frustration while screaming began to seep through the corridors.

Ernest then jolted forward, out-stretching his clawed fingers. I quickly pushed as much air as possible underneath me and climbed higher. All the fresh blood in me had given me so much strength, and I could now really feel it. It was almost like an adrenaline rush, pumping through my veins and through my wings. I looked down to see my pursuer close on my tail. I had to deal with him somehow, even though I was very unsure whether or not he could even die. However, they had to have weaknesses. I pushed a little bit more, obtaining altitude faster than him, struggling to get the lab coat off of me while doing so. I then took a deep breath and just stopped all motion. I floated upwards for a beat before plummeting back down to my newest attacker, catching him off guard quite well.

I held the coat out, holding the sides of it in my paws, and then was able to twist it a little before impacting this flying imbecile. I fell slightly behind him so I held out the coat and pulled it against his throat as I wrapped my legs around his waist while he tried frantically to get ahold of me. There was no way I was letting this piece of shit monster hit the ground alive. I held the coat around his jugular with one paw now, digging the claw into the top of his spine. I tried ripping my other claw into his sides and back muscles but it wasn't working effectively as we climaxed in our parabolic fight or flight. I roared a menacing growl in his ear as he grabbed my calves, piercing his claws deep into the tissue. I gripped the base of his wings and just screamed, working my muscles as hard as possible. His body went limp as I completely tore his wings from his back. Some of his spine was still attached to them, bone marrow leaking down my forearm. I loosened my thighs, letting the pawn be subject to gravity. I held the wings firmly in my paw as the body made a loud THUD noise as it landed in front of their leader.

"I guess you aren't as weak as I had perceived," he growled as he took a step back from Ernest's useless being. I began flying away, throwing the wings to the side and wrapping the coat around me before the most intimidating growl I'd ever heard reached my ears. "This will not be the last time we meet, miss! You will never forget the mess you have created here!!" I turned my head to make sure I wasn't being followed as I flew off as fast as I could.

My last peer back at the hopeless town had filled my brain with guilt. I needed to feed in order to continue with my journey back to Jon and the others, but at what price? For this small village - to never live a normal life again and to let everyone there become a killer. It was all my doing, and, now, there were young, weak vampires on the run around in the valley. When I looked back, I saw a man catch the young baker's son from before by the nape of his neck with his claws and sink his small, but sharp fangs into his chest, right through his shirt. The child screamed as his body went stiff. He struggled and kicked his feet around as his older sister ran to his aid, only to be kicked to the ground. She shouted for his release but the quick vampire was already on top of her. She had now joined the chorus of misery that was sweeping over the village as the men were now hunting down their old families to satisfy their new cravings for warm blood. The boy's limbs had finally gone limp after he had, in vain, tried to reach his doomed sister who was scrambling on the street. His eyes didn't completely shut as the leader dropped his body and stepped over him to find another meal. After only a couple moments, the boy's eyes snapped open, flashing their new crimson shade. He had looked dead for only a couple seconds, a much shorter transformation than the original men. As the quick vampire ran towards his new target, the sister's limbs shook - her entire body going into a seizure. She kept convulsing until her brother's hand was able to reach over and grasp hers. Her heart finally gave but, of course, she awoke with red eyes and got to her feet with her brother. They both looked confused at first, but then smiled as they ran towards a pregnant woman, catching her easily.

What had I created?
