#2 of You are free excerpts

More drama goes down in the room. Christopher gets taken away and Ella gets hurt.

Alexander

As hard as I tried, I couldn't get my memory to flow back in. I didn't need to remember, though. My fist enough was proof. I hoped it wasn't bleeding.

One of my next realizations was Ella was missing, and all too quickly I found her. My ears picked up the faint noise of her voice calling for help. I pinpointed the source... under the bedframe.

I gasped and darted down, half crouching and kneeling. "Ella! Ella! Are you okay?!" I asked frantically. Before I knew it, I was grasping the underside and edge of the bottom wood, and I was lifting up hard. All too quickly, I let go, gasping in pain. I'd hurt my left hand far worse than I thought.

I gripped the frame again, lifting as much as I could. I let go in a horrible fright when I felt something in my hand threaten to shift - possibly permanently, or painfully. Choice words left my mouth under my breath once again. I shook my hand in pain, before going silent.

I stood for a few seconds, looking down in almost defeat. I suddenly turned, gripping Christopher by the shoulder and lifted him up with my good hand and dropped him behind me.

"Come on, come on, comeoncomeoncomeon," I muttered, lifting with my good arm. I knew that with my strength I should've been able to move it. Heck, I could've lifted it a little as a human. It was likely industrially bolted to the ground, though, and I must have jammed it.

Christopher

"Oh, I'm not the one who's going to be sorry," I said, watching Alexander try to lift the bunk in vain.

"This sub-human here is about to get his just desserts. You all think he's in the right? Look at him! He injured this poor innocent girl recklessly all because I teased him a little. And you'd call me savage," I said, chiding everyone in the room.

"Just look at him. He's trying to save his sorry butt because he's desperate. He knows none of you know him or have any attachment to him, and that he's worth nothing. Not that any of you are worth anything, of course," I continued.

"So, of course he'd try to save the girl; he'd try and prove she's fine so he won't be taken away and looked upon with shame, like he should," I said, now directing my speech at him.

"Listen, you little freak. Why don't you just-"

Alexander

"SHUT UP! JUST SHUT UP! THIS GIRL COULD FREAKING DIE AND YOU AREN'T DOING JACK! TALKING ABOUT WHAT A HORRIBLE PERSON I AM FOR TRYING TO SAVE SOMEONE ISN'T HELPING, YOU FREAKING IDIOT! SHUT UP!" I shouted. He was silent. I was silent. I broke into sobbing cries, collapsing onto the floor with my ears flattened. I felt helpless. I could get taken away. My only friend, the first I had met since I had gotten here, could die. And there was nothing I could do.

My crying was interrupted as I heard a mechanical or hydraulic shifting in the wall, and I looked up in time to see a section of wall open up, and two very tall men in suits walked in. My eyes widened and I whimpered in despair as they approached me. I hung my head down as they picked me up by the shoulders. They didn't take me, though - they just stood there. I looked up, wondering what was going on when I saw two other men identical to these two walked in, carrying some tools. The men walked over to the trashed bunk bed, and began undoing the wreckage. They were followed by yet another pair, who approached Christopher, who backed away from them.

They kept approaching him.

Christopher

I felt cornered as two men approached me, having come from some door that opened up in the wall. I was still in shock at the wolf's outburst, but I was all too quickly coming to my senses. I felt adrenaline begin to pump through my body as they continued to approach.

"What do you think you two are doing? That guy did the damage. Go take him away," I said.

"Shut up," snapped the guy on the left, as they both gripped one of my arms on their respective sides. I tugged my left arm away, before quickly having it grasped again.

"Let go," I said, not feeling great about being told to shut up multiple times. I was feeling rather upset. I began to smell smoke again. Once again, my arm was gripped tightly, and I felt a flare of rage flash through me.

"I said, let go," I snapped at the guy, wringing my arm out of his grasp and swinging my fist around, coming toward his face.

That's when the fire came out.

The man caught my arm and stopped it by the wrist, and I looked just in time to see a large flame come spiraling from seemingly out of the air, yet from my arm. As he caught my wrist, he wrapped his free hand around my fist tightly and snuffed out the curling flames that were approaching him.

"...No, nononono, no no..." I muttered quietly as they lifted me just barely off the ground, before walking me away, closer to the hole in the wall. "No, you can't take me away! I'm not like them! I'm a human! I'm not a freak! You can't take me away! Stop it! Let me go!"

A loudspeaker crackled. "Son, you are no better than the children you reside with. And I'm afraid we can, will, and are taking you away. A broken bed means no place to sleep, and there's only one free spot left. And it looks like your victim there deserves it," a voice stated in a matter-of-fact manner.

I broke into hysterical shouting, kicking as much as I could, spraying fire all over the hallway. I heard the door close behind me, and then my vision went dark.

I watched as they took my bunk-mate away, and he broke down more by the second. I began to almost feel a little sorry for him, but I was distracted as the men put me down and I found my chance to look back at the bunk.

"Ella!" I cried out, running back over to the site a few feet away. My dark black claws clicked against the tile floor, echoing around the room.

I was surprised at how quickly they removed the bed. One man was carrying Ella in both of his arms, and was holding a scanner over her. I reached him just as it finished scanning.

"Is she alright? Will she be okay?" I asked, almost panicking. The man sighed.

"She doesn't have any major internal injuries. The ones she does have will heal quickly. I can't tell you any more than that," he explained. He looked like a sad man, even though he was pretty neutral looking. He laid Ella upon her top bunk, before walking away toward the hole in the wall. I saw another man exchange a glance with him, and he hung his head down. He must have done something wrong by telling me that.

The men in suits all flooded out of the room, and the hole closed behind them. We were all left in the room by ourselves again, and I was left with more questions than I had when I woke up.
