Ranger's March, I

Mels woke up first. She had a way of waking up first, setting up, warming up, doing what she did in the morning. Rumelis was more sluggish, though he was quick enough on his feet once removed from a bedroll.

"Getting our next assignment today." Mels said. "Isn't that nice?"

Rumelis yawned audibly and streched. "Be nice to get out of the camp again."

"See some sights, some more woods..."

"Get some alone time... Now that I think of it, you still owe me a kiss or two."

"Says who?" Mels finally finished pulling her Ranger's uniform on.

"Says you, a couple weeks ago. Said you'd give me kisses..."

"I was drunk, and I said I'd give you more than kisses. And I heard about it from Kellam."

"How did-- Kellam? Really?"

"As I recall, he's the only one who was sober."

"True."

The two Rangers opened the flaps of their tent and made their way over to the Commandant's assistant, who was standing outside the largest tent in camp with paper in hand and a squint to match it. The ermine assistant wasn't the most liked person in camp, as he assigned most cleaning duties, but he was a respectable man. When drunk.

"Ah, Mels and Rumelis. The young couple. The commandant wants you to do some basic patrols, that's all. Scout the Warden's Woods for a couple days, maybe look over the Fell Woods for a bit."

Rumelis remembered the last time he'd been in the Fell Woods. It felt like ages ago... his first mission. And he'd done what after all that? After seeking out Tull and destroying the Blades of Eulas? Patrols. Well, that was better than cleaning the camp up, he supposed.

"Right." Mels said. "We will report in seven days. If the report isn't good, we will stay out and investigate further."

"As you are." The assistant waved the two of them away. "Who's next?"

The Warden's Woods were almost always a quiet place. Few villagers bothered to wander far into them, and Rangers were always few and far between in recent months. Many had been moved from the Warden's Woods camp to other corners of Arlas, as the King tried some half-witted expansion policy and needed guards for the boundaries. In a couple months, the neighboring lands would complain, and the Rangers would return to their main camp. For now, Rumelis and Mels were alone, and unlikely to be intruded upon. They made camp in the evening with nothing to report and nobody to talk to but each other.

"Fine night for a spot of camping." Rumelis said.

"Fine night for a lot of things." Mels replied. "I can think of a couple right now."

"Like what?" Rumelis sidled closer to her by the fire, bringing his paw around her shoulder.

"Oh, you know. Fishing, maybe some hunting... stargazing, too. Good night for stargazing." Mels said.

"And?"

"Sleeping."

"And?"

"Bird watching?"

"And?"

"I'm out of ideas." Mels said. She leaned over and kissed him instead.

They held the kiss for a long time, reveling in each other as articles of clothing seemed to melt away from their bodies, spreading across the floor. Their hands danced around each other as they kept close, brushing over chests, backs, more sensitive things. Mels grabbed his member and began to stroke him as he started on her breasts, moaning his approval.

They quickly began in earnest, impatient to start what weeks in a crowded camp had forbidden them, as Mels lightly brought Rumelis to the ground and impaled herself upon him, white-furred breasts shaking as she bobbed up and down. Rumelis started to thrust upward in time, bringing her down more quickly with his paws and crying out in pleasure. They moved faster, faster, working for that final moment where there eyes met again.

"Mels!" Rumelis cried as he gave her his seed, getting a release far better than his paw could ever give in those stagnant weeks of waiting. Mels quickly followed suit, almost kicking into the campfire as she moaned in ecstasy.

After the fact, the two of them lay together.

"Finally gave you those kisses." Mels said, giggling a bit.

They both fell into a deep sleep. Neither heard the odd rustle of the leaves or the breaking branches as they became louder and louder, and neither saw the shadowed figures approaching.
