#1 of A gryphon's Tale

Well, here it is! my first non-yiff, a story driven story about a young gryphon, who was Apparently taken away by a drake! read the story and find out what may happen in this lovely, first time thing of mine. this being the start up (introduction) to my new series I will be starting.

I would love feedback on this, and hope to get some as well. I do hope you enjoy, and remember, Constructive Criticism is always welcome!

Onyx groaned, the young gryphon trotting around the Large grassland plains that surrounded his nest. he was always a fan of running, instead of the whole flying thing, so he decided that he would run most his life. Onyx was a 5 month year old, Striped Gryphon, he wasn't very big, only around 4 feet in height.

He was definitely young, but even so, he took on the responsibility of Guarding his nest while he mother were to hunt. he usually guarded it from wolves, bears, and foxes. whichever animals that would be dumb enough to approach. he showed all kinds of dominant gestures to the creatures, but if that wasn't enough, he would show his rather sharp talons, before lunging at them. he usually didn't need to attack wolves or foxes, but bears would definitely hold a threat to him unless he were to strike first.

He never had any trouble, and today was going to be the same, just scan the plains, making sure it were clear, it seemed like a pretty easy task, until he heard a loud, ear splitting roar come from the bushes he were approaching.

The young gryphon lowered himself, gulping lightly, before he slowly made his way backwards. being as silent as possible, but he were too focused on the bushes, to realize behind him was a pool of water, he continued backing up, until he reached the edge, slipped and fell back first into the water, although before being drenched in water, he let out a loud hiss of fear.

From the bushes, came a very large dragon, the color of jade, and the size of two buses. the drake slowly made it's way to the pond. and she looked over into the water, seeing a young gryphon crawl out of the water and onto dry land.

He didn't see the female, which was a mistake on his part, he could've easily out flown the large beast, but before he had realized her, she had already wrapped her extremely long tail around his hind legs.

He yelped, as he were lifted from his rear, his front half dangling. he spun around for a few moments, before he settled, facing the large drake, which to him was upside down

"Let me go! i'll fight you if i have to! mother said to protect! And i'll do just that!"

Without hesitation, the large dragon groaned, before her tail flicked, sending him flying about the air within her strong tail's grip

"Listen here, bird, you won't be fighting, deary, but if you want, i can just eat you. now listen, this is not your mother's territory, she has intruded my land, i will not spare her life, Unless, you agree upon something."

"what is it?... you won't hurt my mother!"

"Oh, but i will, she has been nothing but a bother to me, snatching up my prey quickly, before i can get to them, hiding in the trees, she knows i am far too large to be within a forest, but with you, i can get my prey quickly, and easily. you agree to be my hunter, and i shall spare your mother...understand little boy?"

"f-fine, just let me go!"

"Fair enough, i suppose." The large dragon, with a swing of her tail, threw the small gryphon backwards, right back into the pool of water. before she got up, and circled it

"Clean yourself boy, your mother will have no trace of you, whatsoever." as she spoke, her tail slithered into the water, and started to swaying about within the cool liquid. the drake making sure to get the Gryphon's young scent off of her before she were to leave with him

"I hate water though..." Onyx slowly crawled out once more, being drenched entirely with water, no feathers or fur remained dry

"You need to, or i will need to rid my land of your mother, and if i were to do that, i wouldn't need you either. how would you feel about being my lunch?"

"Right, like you would, or even could eat me..." The young gryphon groaned and squawked, suddenly being swung out of the water and into the air by the dragon's tail, before her tail flicked and swung, throwing him into the air, before she suddenly spread her wings, and with a mighty beat of them, and a strong push of the ground, she took off, the gryphon landing right upon her back, where he then grabbed onto her spiked spine with his talons, best he could.

The dragon stayed quiet, continuing to sore through the cool morning air, her tail straight most the time, and her vision stayed on where she was going. she didn't need to look to know the gryphon was still there, she could feel his weight upon her back and spine.

"Ahh...Ma'am...Where are we going?..." The gryphon tried to shout loud enough, but he was stopped from shouting by the wind in his beak. He decided it were best to just stay quiet, he didn't want to upset the dragon he was being carried by, even though he could always just let go.

"wait...i can fly away!"

With a sudden push, he flew right off of her back, and started falling, until he spread his wings, and started flapping, soon slowing himself. but before he could manage to go anywhere, he was suddenly gripped in the jaws of the female dragon, she gave him an angry glare, almost being able to fit him entirely in her muzzle. she didn't bite hard, more just made sure he wasn't going anywhere, and sadly for the gryphon, that was rather hard, and his skin, and a few feathers were pierced by the Sharpness of the dragon's teeth

She soon came upon a very large mountain, mostly covered in stone, but had some grass around the top as well. she landed on a large stone surface, and spit the gryphon out, him roughly hitting the stone, before letting out a harsh, loud cry of pain.

"Ahhh....M-My wing! It's broken..."

Without thinking, the gryphon tried to move it, only to Hiss out and drag his claws against the stone, putting a few scratches into it

"Oh dear, i suppose so, maybe next time you will land on your feet."

The jade colored dragon could care less at that fact, so what his wing was broken? he could barely fly from what she could tell anyways

"i..bu...it Hurts! Help me, please...it hurts so much..."

"I can't help you, i am a dragon, you are a gryphon, we have nothing in common, meaning i would have nothing to help you with."

"JUST ANYTHING!"

Onyx shouted, his wing laying flat against his back, but besides his attempt at keeping it still, it still flicked sometimes and twitched.

"Very well, bird, but yell again, and your beak will be broken next...i will be back, you just stay here, i must go get a few things."

with another glance at the gryphon, the dragon smirked, before she dived head first off of her peak, and down into the forest below. Onyx laid down, watching the spot that she had jumped down, waiting patiently for her return.

The dragon landed on the forest ground, where she could manage to actually land at least, was in the middle of the forest, in a small plains. this was a perfect place to find what she needed.

She roamed around, grabbing some large sticks with her tail, and picking up a mouthful of tall grass and vines. after she finished this, she flew to the mountain's peak once more, dropping what she gathered on the stone, giving the gryphon a quick glance, and then dived back down

This time, she went for the water, she searched the shore for anything that could hold water, although found nothing, so she just turned and went back for the forest.

She went into the dark, musky forest and searched around, finding a few rocks, which she picked up with her muzzle, and headed back for the shore.

Once at the shore line, she put the rocks into the cold water, since the temperature was around 50 degrees Fahrenheit, the water was quite cold.

After doing this, she got a mouth full of water, along with the rocks, and took off into the air again , heading back to her den

Onyx laid nervously, looking at the large amounts of supplies the dragon had gathered, and the dragon soon arrived, before dropping the cold rocks against the ground, the water spilling everywhere, before slowly spilling away.

She groaned lightly, looking to the gryphon, she could tell he were in pain, his eyes watered, his wing lay completely limp, and he didn't dare move.

so she decided to get to work. she laid down on her stomach, in front of the supplies. and started messing around with them, putting the sticks into a wing like shape, and tying them like that with the vines, before she made another one. after both of the two Wing shaped splints were made, she put some of the tall grass along side the one that was against the ground, and then pulled it over to the injured Gryphon

"Roll over, it will hurt, but your wing must be on the ground for me to do this."

Without any words, the gryphon nodded, he slowly rolled over, rolling to the side with the uninjured wing, as to not roll over his broken one.

Once he were done, he slowly lowered the wing to the ground, and let out a squawk when he first felt the pain of the stone against it.

She dragged both splints over to the grpyhon, the one that was on the ground, and covered in grass, was moved to his wing. she slowly lifted it, barely moving it at all, and pushed the splint under his wing, before setting it down on it, the grass working as a cushion, to ease the pain. she then grabbed the rest of the grass she had, and placed it over the gryphon's wing, and soon after put the top of the splint on.

With a few annoyed growls, and a lot of paying attention, she had managed to tie both the splints to gather, and got his wing firmly protected within them. She then went to grab the rocks, they were still quite cold. she smashed them to pieces, slid them over to the gryphon with her tail, and then started picking one by one up with her mouth, and setting the cold stones within the splint, on the grass. she was hoping for the stones to help in keeping the wing from swelling, although it was still cold enough to where nothing word happen.

"Now, how does that feel? any better?"

"y..yes...thank you."

The drake sighed, and went to gather the remaining supplies she had, thinking for a moment. it were her fault that he were in pain, and even if she did help him, she didn;t deserve a thank you, not after kidnapping the the little guy, although was it really kidnapping? she knew the truth, that his mother was taken away by hunters. probably to be moved to a breeding camp, gryphons weren't hunted for food, only for money.

She had to lie to him, to make him feel that he were helping his mother by going along with the dragon, even though the dragon knew everything, including Onyx's mother. she just couldn't get over the fact that she was the chosen animal to watch over her cub, that was the last thing she had heard, was that onyx was too young to live alone, and that he needed a home.

The dragon growled lightly, her long tail flicking annoyingly around, while she gathered the leftover vines and sticks, brought them over to the cub, and put them about 5 feet in front of him

"do you want a fire? or would you rather have the cold air?"

"A fire...would be fine i guess..."

Onyx groaned lightly, his still hurting, but a little less painful wing, wiggled lightly within the homemade splint. it was a little too big for his wing, but the grass kept it from falling off or anything like that

The dragon sighed, before she shot burst of flames into the wood, it immediately bursting into flames. making the gryphon jump back nervously.

"It will be night fall soon, boy. you will need to rest, but i need to get some food first. what do you usually eat?"

"ahh, i like Deer, we have that a lot,.."

"very well, i will be back with some deer, you stay and relax, enjoy the warm fire."

Onyx nodded, and the dragon soon jumped off of the cliff side, and flew down, landing rather quietly against the ground below.

She roamed the area, before she hid herself within tall bushes and such. hiding away from any pray. her tail lay out in the open in front of her, while she watched.

Soon, a few deer came, walking slowly, the most of them stayed away from the very shiny, green Root looking tail, although one was unlucky, and was quickly gripped by the tail. The dragon lunged forward, killing the first deer rather easily, and set it down, before she bolted out, towards the other few deer, although they were already running way before she killed the first deer.

It took a few long strides for her large body to reach the next deer, the other one had parted ways with it. so she took the second one out quickly. she had two, and it seemed the third was long done. she couldn't even hear the sounds of it's running anymore.

She grabbed the two dead deer with her mouth, and took off into the air, barely being able to resist the blood that dripped into her mouth, it was tempting, she just wanted to swallow them both, but it wouldn't help, she needed to feed the young first, she could eat some other time

she made it to the cliff once more, and landed roughly against the stone, before she walked over and dropped the deer against the ground, beside the gryphon

"Eat boy, you need the energy to get over that broken wing, it should heal in a short amount of time, or at least i hope so."

"okay, i will...ahh, what is your name?"

She paused for a moment, her tail lashing out lightly before slowly swaying, she sat beside him, sitting on her haunches while her long tail wrapped around herself

"i am known for jade, by most of the hunters and whatnot around these forests, and i adapted to that, i never had an original name for myself, my mother never named me, or didn't have time to, so i just decided to have my name be jade, and yours?"

"it's onyx, thank you for everything Jade, i will try my best to help you hunt...i don't know why my mother takes your prey, that's not like her..."

Her eyes closed, and she soon fell to her side, it was a long day, the sun set under the tree line, and it were soon going to be pitch black out, all of her flying about didn't help with her energy anyways, she were exhausted, she didn't even bother thinking about the food, which onyx had gladly started gnawing and chewing at.

He ate for almost an hour, he were quite the slow eater, in that time, he only finished one of the two deer, and a leg of the second one, before he became rather full, and started gnawing on a few of the remaining deer bones from the finished deer

"So, ah...jade. why do you live so far away from your land? didn't you live around my den?"

"of course, boy. my land is huge, it is far bigger then you could think, us dragons are very territorial, and don't often spare one who may enter our land, but your too young to be killed, you wouldn't even fill me up, so i am going to use you instead of eating you."

Jade spoke with her eyes closed, her tail idly swaying. Onyx on the other hand, was too busy gnawing on a bone to sleep, although he still listened.

"So, you want me to help you? instead of you eating me? i think that makes sense, but you've helped me much more then i've done for you, i will need to do more work later. i promise, i will help you, since you've given me life over death."

She winced her eyes shut hard, just the thought of his mother being gone, and how he were acting, was tearing her apart, she hated that he had no mother at the time, but she wouldn't bother with telling him now, he were too young, she must wait to tell him the news.

The sun had soon fully set, it were pitch black, but the fire gave pretty good light around the cliff. Jade had moved into the den, and Onyx was dozing off, although he soon retreated into the darkness of the quite warm den. Without onyx noticing, she had put the fire out with her tail, which was lightly burned by it, although she hadn't felt the pain.

Onyx roamed through the darkness, until he bumped into her belly. she shivered lightly, but just acted like she were asleep. And since onyx were so young, he just laid down, and nuzzled up against the Dragon's belly. it was quite warm, it felt almost like hot water against his fur.

Jade had purposefully laid in a direction, to where his injured wing was off of the ground, and that his fixed wing would be fine. Onyx lay happily nuzzled against jade, and she soon put her wing over his form, trapping him in a box of warmth and protection.

He soon started to doze, closing his eyes, the young gryphon fell into a deep, content sleep, and soon jade followed, falling asleep as well, making sure that the little gryphon was well warmed up an protected, before she let sleep take her form over.
