An exercise in character ups and downs and the continuation to a series I hope will become something good ^^.

Aidan's mind was blank, his ears ringing and his body heavy. His eyes were cracking open to see stone floor underneath him, as his head rose he saw metal bars. Eyes suddenly wide his hands and body jolted, but his wrists were shackled to the wall. At that moment he realized he had been stripped of any equipment, of any clothes as well. Panic began shaking his form as he tried desperately recalling what had happened, what had landed him in this dungeon? Taking a deep breath he calmed himself. He remembered, he was investigating the disappearance of some of his fellow kobold. K'lora, the dragoness he served had expressed concern, but something had gone terribly wrong. Typically the human settlements upon the fields near the mountain were open to trade and even sometimes kind to them, but upon visiting the nearest one he had been ambushed. Several blows to the head later and his world had been wrapped in dark. He had no idea why they had turned hostile, but he would escape and tell his mistress, at the very least he would be able to warn the rest of his kind and the other creatures within the mountain. Now he would just need to escape, thankfully the humans who had captured him had not accounted for his magic.

He wouldn't need dragon's magic to break free of the shackles, just some basic heat, enough to weaken the metal, but he paused. The metal was ready to be popped, he could practically feel them about to break off themselves, but if he did and he escaped the cell, then he would be out in the open in an unknown place. Certainly the guards would see him and he wasn't strong enough for confrontation just yet, no, his head was still aching and his body felt as though they had run him through boulders. With a sigh he slumped against the wall, closing his eyes. He would need his equipment, or at the very least a weapon. Just then he heard heavy steps approaching his cell. Aidan took a breath, keeping his eyes closed hoping that pretending to still be out would be enough to keep them away.

Before long he heard the steps stop, their voices coming through, "Creatures still asleep. Bastard probably doesn't even know his home is already gone." said a scratchy masculine voice followed by tapping at his cell's bars.

A woman then chimed in, low, "Yeah...but, they serve a dragon. We can't have that around for too long without some trouble, besides, death isn't so bad if he goes for it. He'll get to see his family right?"

The man answered with a chuckle, "Yeah, that’s a good way to look at it, but a better way is that we get paid by the kobold."

They both laughed, they were laughing at the death of his family. He couldn't control it. The heat he had summoned before popped the shackles entirely, but when he fell he stayed on the ground flat, his face to the ground but his eyes wide open. One of the guards cursed and entered the cell, it was his time to escape, desperation called for action. As soon as the guard came too close to pick him up off the ground he bit hard into the man's throat, the taste of iron filling his mouth for a moment as he was dropped on to the floor. He looked to see that the female guard accompanying the man was drawing her sword. With a yell she entered and brought her sword up, but rather than fight he ducked underneath her and ran a wild look in his glowing amber eyes.

Aidan's temporary home wasn't a large, and through sheer luck perhaps he had managed to slip away. He was thankful for his size, for the many times he had almost been caught, he had been able to hid away within the many nooks and crannies within the dungeon, but at the same time he wasn't in his right mind. Many times he had been tempted to tear into another human that had crossed his path, but through some sort of will he had managed to keep himself hidden and on the path to heading out.

Desperation; as he was coming out of his mind's madness he realized that he was out in a city now. A city he recognized very well. He had escaped from the dungeon almost on blind rage. If it had been properly guarded then he would have been dead, but now he was out in the city within the shadows of an alleyway and again he could feel his body ache. Supposedly his home was gone, but surely that was a lie. A dragon could not be felled so easily, and surely he had not been out that long.

Raviden was a city of greed. He didn't expect a single human within the city to help if some bastard king had suddenly decided that K'lora was a danger to them all, especially if their hands were greased with gold for the heads of kobold like himself. Ducking in an alley between buildings wasn't exactly the best way to stay hidden, and he couldn't stay there for long. Even if it was night there would be guards and he wasn't sure just how much he could strain his body while he was like this. Perhaps he should have stayed rotting in that cell and waiting for his death, but instead he had gone into a rage upon hearing those humans talk about his home. If the warren was gone then he would have nothing to go back to, and if his mistress was dead then he would have little reason to live. A kobold without a family, what good was he? Shaking his head of such thoughts and wiping at teary eyes he suddenly heard a familiar voice calling his name.

Lorrain had been taking an evening walk, a way to get away from the political ramblings of her husband. As of late he had taken in interest in investing in the success of a particular crown that had promised to rid the land of troublesome creatures such as dragon, and take their treasure of course. Lorrain could care less about a false king's desire for glory, but to her the hunting of dragons and their servants was a misdeed, especially if they had not attacked any settlements. Deciding that she would need to go home soon, she figured it would be a good idea to take a quicker route through the alleyway when she saw a familiar kobold in black and grey scales crouched on the floor, eyes glowing amber in moonlight, "Aidan?" she called out quietly. When he turned his head he looked as though he was about to run, to scurry away. The poor thing was nude and she could see marks along his body that suggested a sound beating. This was the result of that king's desire it seemed, and if the rumors were too, then her little kobold friend here was without a home, "Aidan...wait...let me take a look at you at home. I can get you something to pick you right up. You remember right? Lorrain? My window is open for you dear, you can make it to my home I'm sure, I'll keep the guards busy with something to make it easier, but don't follow to close or you'll get caught...just...be safe I'm a friend..." biting her lip she hoped that he would trust her before walking away. She couldn't take him directly to her home or else the guards would see him, they would take him away, she only hoped that he stilled trusted her despite the rest of her kind.

Aidan blinked, he had been offered help by a human, but he remembered her. He had shared a bed with her once as a sort of revenge play of course with her consent. Now she was offering help, offering him respite and sanctuary. Humans were an odd sort for him typically, but now they were a danger. To trust this woman he would be risking his life. Still, it was probably better than waiting around an alleyway brooding on something he had no true grasp on. With a breath he brought himself up and began heading to her manor, ignoring the tiny aches and pains that pulsed throughout his body.

Lorrain had given the guards leave, adding a bit of extra to their pay for them to look the other way and get themselves something nice, after all, tonight was a night of celebration, or so she spun her tale to the guards. Not many of the guards around the manor were willing to argue with her, or even look at her funny when she ushered them off with full pockets. The guards could perhaps check back occasionally out of fear of losing their jobs, but her husband was at least not of concern. Upon entering her home she found that her husband had gone off on some sort of nightly business, perhaps sucking the toes of royalty visiting the city, regardless she worked quickly to gather some supplies. She wasn't sure how to mend a kobold, but she was certain her family's spice would at least soothe the pain and begin the healing process. Grabbing a bottle of the green powder she made her way to her room, locking the door and heading to the window to open it, only to find the kobold already struggling to bring himself up and over. Chewing at her lip she took him by the arms, bringing him in with a grunt before shutting the window. She should have found some sort of clothing for the poor thing, but anything she would have found would be too large for him, for now she eased him inside taking him to her bed to sit him up right and check his body. As her eyes scanned him for any obvious parts that had been damaged she heard him speak, "Thank you...I can't really repay you right now and part of me feels sorry that I took out my aggression on you last time..."

Lorrain smiled just a bit. He was well enough to chatter and butter her up at least. Taking the cork from the bottle she gathered some of the dust in her hand, puffing it out in a great cloud against his body and face. At first he seemed to recoil from the stuff, "Relax, the aroma might not do anything for you, but the herbs in here have been infused. Family magic. The pain should start to fade, and in the meantime dear...I can get you ready to leave this horrid place."

Aidan at first was nervous, though poison really didn't bother his kind. Soon enough he felt his muscles relax and the pain slowly stop replaced by relief. With a sigh he rubbed at the back of his head, "I want to go back home" he said quietly.

Lorrain nodded as she corked the bottle, turning to set it on her nightstand, "Yes I know...but dear, your dragon has flown away. She's not dead, no, but she's left. The royal army laid siege to the mountain. You must have been out for quite some time."

Aidan's eyes shone bright, "K'lora is still alive? I have to find her then. Where did she go?"

Lorrain turned to him, seeing renewed hope in his eyes, though, she wasn't sure if she should tell him. The poor thing should find himself a new family far from the dragoness and far from anything dangerous like the royalty of this land, still she told him the truth, "North. She headed far north through the mountain ranges after her home was destroyed...seemed she chose retreat rather than fighting, lucky I think, or else perhaps the King's men wouldn't have made it, though I heard the Queen was the one to make the decision."

Aidan's tail lashed from side to side now as he spoke, "That means perhaps more of my warren survived too...well, they'll surely be following K'lora. Surely! I'll get to her and what is left of the warren."

Lorrain thought about for a moment, her brow furrowing, "Aidan...you should...maybe you should find yourself a different warren, or perhaps start your own. Dragons aren't considered friendly by most creatures, some kobolds have been given freedom for renouncing their loyalty. I could take you in as a servant if only you'd renounce your loyalty to the dra--" She stopped mid-word as she heard Aidan begin to hiss from where he sat. With a sigh she ran her fingers through her hair nodding and redirecting her thought, "All right, I get it. The offer is there dear. Alternative is...we travel together to the north to find your mistress."

Aiden stopped hissing, narrowing his eyes and looking to the ground before looking to her, "Together?"

Lorrain smiled just a bit, "Yes together, I'd rather not have you get caught again, and certainly it wouldn't be too odd for a noble to take a kobold on as a servant as I said before, though my husband doesn't respect me, others do. My family after all owns the apothecary's here, and in many other cities. It'll be a good excuse for me to get out of town as well. Of course we'll have to get you dressed too...I'm sure I can cut some cloth from a cloak to at least get you somewhat decent."

Aiden had practically come to rely on his warren for support, only ever traveling with other kobolds and the occasional gnoll. He never figured he would be traveling with a human, or experiencing such kindness from one. With wet eyes he could only say in a soft voice, "Thank you."

Lorrain blinked. Aiden was a fully grown kobold, a fully grown man there upon the bed thanking her with tears ready to fall from his eyes. Chewing her lip she wrapped her arms around his shoulders and gave him a light squeeze, earning a pained grunt, but his own arms wrapping around her, "You're welcome...and besides, don't think I'm totally selfless." she pulled away and turned to rummage through her drawers for something more appropriate for the trip, and a cloak she could cut, "I'm not necessarily happy here, so in a way this will be an escape...besides, I like you Aiden, you gave me quite a lot to think about last time you were here, and an even worst opinion of my husband for stealing that egg. Either way think nothing of it. Just think of it like a fun journey between two friends, it'll be grand I promise."

Aiden rotated a shoulder smiling just a bit. The pain was almost gone and things were looking up just a bit. Even if he still didn't fully trust Lorrain, he could at least count on her as a friend, and that was something all too rare at the moment, "Well...I just hope you don't expect me to settle down with you after all of this. Unless you're willing to deal with reproducing for a big family."

Lorrain's cheeks flushed at that, her hands clutching on to what she was going to change into. Tossing it over to the bed she continued rummaging until she found a dark green cloak tossing it back to the bed as well before she finally answered, "I'm sure I can handle that..."

Though Aidan was in a dire situation, he felt his body heat up at the mention that she would indeed attempt to handle it. Before he could protest, she had begun to remove her clothes. His amber eyes were glued to her body, her pale form curving in the perfect ways. It was almost nostalgic as he had already staked his claim upon her at one time, and even though they should have been making haste, he found himself wanting to take his time there for at least a little bit of fun.

When Lorrain turned she saw that between Aidan's legs was his erect cock, a rather impressive thing for a kobold, just as she remembered it. She hadn't planned on seducing him, hadn't planned on wasting time, but as she moved towards the bed rather than reach for the clothes, her finger tips touched at his cock, slowly sliding down the shaft to grip on to it gently. She could see that he was still in just a bit of discomfort, so when he tried to move from the bed she placed a singular finger on his snout, leaning down to kiss the place she had just touched. She knew she had to keep it quick, to keep it short, but she would give him something to enjoy for sure, and this time she would be the one in control. Lowering herself she held on to his cock, pushing the tip against her entrancing, teasing it just a bit before pressing it in gently, lowering herself fully now to take that thing inside of her. She groaned as she felt that warm member push and stretch at her insides. Hearing him breathe out, feeling his hands grip at her hips to tug her closer brought a smile to her lips. Her own hands moved to touch at his head, fingers feeling over his horns lightly as she began to ride his cock, moving her hips in a gentle rhythm.

Aidan had allowed her to take control, but rather, he couldn't bring himself to take control. He was lost in her movements, his own hips moving only ever so slightly to hers as she worked his cock with her wet insides. He hugged tight on to her and was grateful for the chance to just sit back and enjoy it. His body wasn't recovered fully, but he had so badly wanted this upon seeing her naked, upon hearing that she would start a family with him. Aidan surely wasn't sure if she was serious about starting a family, but it still turned him on to no end, his cock twitching and throbbing already so close, so ready to blow. He could hear her moans, feel her breath every single time she brought herself down upon his cock, her hips occasionally gyrating upon him. He then heard words that brought him to a near finish, a sweet whisper that was said down to him with the best kind of feeling, "I love you." she said. He heard her say it again and again with every little whisper, her mouth opening to let out low moans, both their bodies shivering, his tail moving around to feel over her as he needed to be as close to her as he could possibly be. With one last thrust he pushed in and grit his teeth as he felt his cock burst, his warm seed painting her insides. At the same time he felt a surge of passion and warmth accompanied by the pained complaints of his body. He was still recovering, but the pleasure outweighed the slight discomfort.

Lorrain breathed out, she had said some odd things in her passion, and she wasn't sure what to feel at the moment except pleasure. She had experienced something special, far more special than their first time together, and far more special than any time she had shared a bed with her husband. Her eyes were closed and her hands were practically crushing Aidan's face against her chest. Looking down she could see that he was squirming, trying to get himself away from her chest. Chuckling just a bit she let go of his head to hear him take a small gasp of air. When she tried to pull away Aidan's arms held on to her tight for just a brief moment before he let go of her, his hands sliding off of her smooth skin as she stepped away to get dressed and prepare his cloak. Certainly she could see herself settling down with Aidan, but as to whether or not she could give him what he wanted, she wasn't sure. For now they were friends, they were friends that were traveling together and occasionally going to have sex, but she could feel those amber eyes staring deep into her back and she knew that she would have a lot to discuss with Aidan about settling down. For now, the future could wait. Turning she saw that Aidan was asleep, she would have to wake him soon enough, but she knew he deserved the rest after all that he had gone through. While he slept she would work upon those adjustments to that cloak, and as soon as he was up, they would take a carriage to the north.

A carriage bounced with every bump upon the road heading north from the City of Raviden. Along with the driver there were two passengers, a kobold servant cloaked in green, and a woman that paid like a noble, but looked like a huntress. Lorrain had her hand upon Aidan's head and she was stifling a giggle. Aidan had indeed been accepted outside the city as her servant, but he didn't seem too happy about it. Many of the other humans they had encountered had offered good money for him or at the very least one of his scales. Really she only giggled at the little huffs he occasionally made, the situation however, wasn't too funny. Kobolds were common servants to be traded like animals it seemed, of course once they made it to the mountain ranges they would surely see less of it. Aiden himself was staring outside of the carriage now though, his eyes glued on a distant mountain with smoke coming from it. Looking outside, Lorrain could see that the mountain he was looking at was his old home where the dragoness had been driven from. She could feel the heat coming off of his body, the pure anger that must have been coming from his body. Rather than say anything, she only kept her hand on his head. For her, her home had been a prison, a cell of sorts that she had finally escaped, for him, his home had been his entire life, a life that had ended far too soon. She hoped they would find his happiness far to the north, or at the very least something to calm his troubled heart.
