When how much human is in you determines your standing in a tribal society, being a quadrupedal can be an emotional ordeal. This story is about one such individual and how she overcomes the stigma she is forced to carry.

The wooden bucket banged against the rocky stream bed as I dragged it, sending down droplets of water splashing into the current below. Maintaining a tight bite on the rope in my beak, I pulled it to shallower water, getting a feel for its weight before carrying it to dry ground. My paws splishing and sploshing through the clear running water as I made my way.

I set it down carefully on the flattest patch of dirt I could find, shaking the wetness from my fur; working my way from head to tail as I cast the drips from me. If only my fur was as water repellent as my feathers.

It seemed I was able to save most of it this time, the bucket was mostly full and the contents appeared clear. I peered in, a few small purple specs glistened in the sunlight as they settled at the bottom, eventually the water calming into a reflective mirror. I saw large blue eyes peering over a yellow beak, contrasted by the surrounding brown fur and lighter coloured feathers covering my underside. Long delicate downward turned ears sat below large forward curved horns, a red ribbon tied to one of them.

I diverted my eyes as the ribbon came into view, this would do for today...

I left to fetch the lid I had set aside just earlier, picking it up in my beak and returning to the bucket. Once there I placed it on top to the best of my ability, before using my frontal paws to properly maneuver it into place and pat it down. No more would be spilling out during the walk home.

Pushing my head between bucket and rope, I wore it around my neck like an oversized bell and set out for home.

Once over the grassy hill leading upward away from the stream; the path came into view. A levelled dirt road cleared from the surrounding foliage. It curved into the forest on the left and right, either way would lead back home eventually, it was essentially a large circle between different areas of importance. I had come from the right, but I knew the left had more interesting sights to see.

Deciding to take a more scenic route I followed the path to the left this time. The bucket swaying heavily from my neck as I casually made my way that direction.

Eventually the dense trees opened up and I could see cleared ground, patches of crops in the distance alongside straw made storage houses. The shape of different creatures working the ground, just being able to make out one as it takes flight and disappears behind the distant tree tops.

A bird caws from a branch near by, drawing my attention. Its tail feathers bob up and down as it takes note of my presence, before launching itself from the tree and flying overhead. Looking to my own tail feathers, they are incorporated into my large reptile like tail and I couldn’t move them independently like that bird could. They’re more decorative really.

Since there is avian in me, it was possible I could have been born with wings. However I didn’t win that game of dice. Not that having wings was any guarantee you would be able to fly, you needed a lot in your favour to have functional ones and they often came at a cost. Not that I would have minded having wings over paws, at least wings let you do something with them.

As I got closer to the village; along the way I came across a teaching area. A ring of flat stones surrounding a larger one, where the teacher would sit while the younglings listened. There appeared to actually be a lesson in progress, so I took it as an excuse to put the bucket down for a short rest, listening in on today’s lesson.

At the centre was perched an adult, her arms a combination of wing and fingered digits, an example of partially developed wings that didn’t quite make it. Taloned feet sat either side a bony scaled reptilian tail, her chest a mass of feathers disrupted only by the breasts concealed beneath them. She peered over her floof with a feathery canine like muzzle, reptilian eyes scanning her audience as she spoke to them.

Surrounding her was a vast diversity of creatures, of different combinations of species, some semi-clothed or not depending on what their body would allow. I recalled my own childhood, when my parents tried to make me wear cloths. I hated them. They would rub awkwardly against my body and restrict my movements, I just wasn’t built for clothing and glad when they stopped trying to make me wear cloth.

I didn’t understand the meaning of that, back then I was less self aware of my body. Sure many of our kind found clothing uncomfortable against our fur and feathers, but they would still wear it for cultural purposes. I didn’t understand it was bad to not wear clothing well, that it meant you...

She was teaching the history of our people, of how we came to be. Today’s lesson I knew all too well, it was fundamental to understanding what we were and where we came from. It also explained why it was important to follow… certain laws.

I listened as the teacher spoke to the youths surrounding her.

Long ago, a great quake hit the lands, it struck fear in all the beasts with its intensity. However after it had past, the streams began to run with a strange purple element, the quake had freed it from the mountain and the streams washed it out into the world. The rivers glistened with this sacred element and the beasts did drink from the river.

For the longest time nothing changed, until two beasts of different kind lay with one another. Somehow, the female bore child, the child inheriting from both the mother and father. Over generations the beasts cross bred, taking on exotic forms as different kind flowed freely between one another.

One creature was said to be particularly beautiful. She bore many of the desirable qualities of the animals within the forest and they blended well into her form. All wanted her, yet she desired none, finding the bodies of others to be less refined than her own. She sought someone such as herself, whose body looked and felt whole.

Then one day, a new creature entered the forest. It had neither fur, scale nor feather. It stood tall on two legs, had hands that could mould the forest to its desires and most importantly; he had the gift of thought.

He too found her to be beautiful and she was enticed by this strange creature, like nothing that had walked the forest before. So they lay together and bore children, and their children grew to achieve things the mother couldn’t have imagined. He taught his children to reshape the forest like he could, to communicate as he did, he had passed on the gift of thought to them.

In time his children too sought mates, they passed on their knowledge, the forest was awoken with thought. For the first time the beasts saw themselves and they too grasped the power to reshape the forest.

However this power was fleeting.

With each generation, more of our hands failed to grasp and our minds muddled. Beasts were forced back onto four legs, hands became wings and paws, unable to reshape the forest. Our children wept at their own bodies.

We sent our kind out to find more of the creature of thought, yet when we found them and lay with them; we couldn’t bear any children. We needed to drink from the purple waters, the sacred element, far from it we couldn’t breed with one another. They had to come here.

So it became law, each would be judged by the elders when they came of age. If they be strong in the beast of thought, they would be granted blessing. If they were not...

I glanced away tearfully, I didn’t need to listen to the rest. Placing the rope over my neck again, I continued homeward. The last words I heard from the teacher as I left swiftly, “for our children’s sake...”

I returned to our hut and carefully butted the door open with my horns, calling out to see if anyone was home. I heard mother’s voice somewhere behind the hut, she must be cooking over a fire outside.

The door opened again and in she stepped, a horned lioness with hooved feet, a tall walking and proud creature. I got my avian side from my father, who was away negotiating with other tribes. I got my reptilian tail from a grandparent, but I got my mother's horns and paws. Not that she had paws, she had hands and very functional ones at that.

She lifted the rope over my head; minding my horns, then carried the water filled bucket to be placed against a hay wall. I was always fascinated with the ease those gifted with hands could interact with the world. The bucket had been knocking against my chest all the way home, its weight straining the muscles in my neck. Yet for her it could be held easily to one side, without any discomfort.

But there was very little I could do… Mother's hands were needed for cooking and work, so I’d never complain. I was glad to contribute in any manner I could.

“Are you hungry?” She asked of me, to which I nodded eagerly.

She returned outside and to the back of the hut. Through a gap in the hay I pressed my face, peering out as I saw her squat down in front of a steaming pot. Spooning some into a wooden bowl before getting up and disappearing out of view again.

I turned around and stared at the door, waiting for it to open and for her to return with the meal. I waited and as I waited I heard her talking with a neighbour, her voice staying in place. I squarked frustratedly and planted my feathered rear on the ground, tail sweeping across it impatiently. I realised it would be too hot to eat anyway, but wished for her company nevertheless.

My ears perked as I heard the talking cease and hoof steps towards the front of the hut resume. She walked in holding the bowl, blowing on it as she approached me. Kneeling at my side, she tested its temperature before spooning some into my beak, I swallowed it happily.

Having other people feed me spared the indignity of eating off the floor, creating a mess on myself and the surrounding. I appreciated it, my family was always so accommodating of my limitations and I was forever thankful.

When the meal was done she wiped any remaining food from my beak; then began inspecting my paws, using a small blade to clip the claws. I held them up for her, thinking to myself while she did her work.

“I saw a lesson going on while walking home today” I eventually said to her.

“Oh?” She responded, maintaining a feline smile and focusing on her work. “What was it about?”

“Where we came from and… why I wasn’t allowed a mate”. She paused, before resuming work on my claws, the room filled only by the sound of claw shaving. My gaze wandered, perhaps that wasn’t the best subject to bring up. “Do you know when dad will be home?” I eventually said to change the subject.

“Your father is still negotiating trade in the southern village, he’ll return in a couple of days but you never know with these things. Until then it’s just us girls.” She blew over my paws, sending stray pieces of shaved claw away and then let me put them back down.

“It’s just…” I said with a downward gaze, “it’s not fair on you to have to do everything”.

“I’m not doing everything” she interrupted while putting away the small blade. “That water you fetched was very helpful, I wouldn’t have been able to cook if I had to fetch it myself”.

“But I wish I could do more for you...” Suddenly a set of fuzzy hands grabbed me by the cheeks and redirected my gaze upward, into her kind feline eyes.

“You do enough, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.” With that, she kissed me on the beak and continued about her chores. “Why don’t you catch us a nice juicy fish for later” she eventually said to me. My eyes beamed and I swiftly departed to catch one.

As the last of the evening sun faded away; I went into my section of the hut, a wall of beads rattling as it closed behind my tail. Circling over my bed of sewn fur patches, I followed my tail until the angle felt just right and settled on top of them. Jawning noisily in a high pitched squark.

In time the moon came out, it shined through a square cut in the hay walls to act as a window. It bothered my eyes so I held a paw up to shield myself, then paused to inspect it. It was a paw but… not entirely one. I flexed the four digits, looking at the blackened pads. But I also had a fifth digit, more of an enlarged dewclaw than a thumb but I could wiggle it around, just not in any useful capacity.

They tried to be hands, but the paw won by a majority. My mind went back, to the day everything changed...

I was so proud. My father had taught me well, I had rehearsed numbers and words with him and was feeling confident. Mother had coloured my teets purple with powder made from the sacred element from the river, she also coloured my horns and beak in it. Since it was this element that uplifted us from being merely beasts, it is worn to bring luck when one is being judged.

He… walked me there. The one who was to become my mate. He walked by my side right to the entrance to the chieftain's hut, wishing me the best as I had to enter alone. There three chieftains sat, two from different villages to ensure a chieftain didn’t show softness toward their own people.

They asked me questions and I recited the answers proudly, clearly, demonstrating the intellect my parents worked so hard to hone. I breezed through everything they asked, my spirits were high as the questions ceased and they appeared to talk amongst themselves on their verdict.

Then, one of them turned to me, asking me to make them some tea. To the right of me was a metal cast pan of water sat boiling on a fire, next to it on a small table a pot and small clay dishes.

I walked over to the pan, it had a handle. I gripped it in my beak to the best of my ability, but with the water it was heavy and much of it spilt on the floor; sending steam up from where it fell. I managed to get some into the pot, which thankfully the leaves already sat.

Once brewed I picked up the pot in my beak, once again spilling most of it. My heart sank. I managed to splash it over the small dishes, the tea dripping over the table's edge. I looked toward the chieftain with what was undoubtedly a pitiful expression.

They asked me to bring the tea to them.

I opened my break and maneuvered my head around it, trying to find the best way to get hold of the dish without spilling hot tea into my mouth. But they interrupted. They wanted me to “pick up” the tea with my forelegs and bring it to them.

I stood up, the muscles in my legs twitched involuntarily under my weight, my tail flailing to gain balance.

With both paws outstretched I carefully picked up the dish of tea between them, then began to turn around. Each step was slow and with great difficulty. I stood there looking at them, tears forming in my eyes as I couldn’t stop from shaking and the liquid split from the dish. The dish soon fell with it. I landed back onto all fours and cried there, in front of three chieftains.

The one that asked for the tea walked over and comforted me, apologising for having to make me do that. I then felt them tie… something around one of my horns.

They stepped away and returned to their seat. When I looked up I could see my face reflecting in a large metallic dish balanced against the huts wall. I was looking back at myself, a red ribbon tied to one of my horns.

I immediately fled the hut and ran into the arms of my mate, sobbing uncontrollably, the purple on my beak staining his fur. He didn’t say anything, what could he say, nothing else could be done. I had a red ribbon, I was forbidden from ever taking a mate, from ever starting my own family.

I thought being smart would get me through the test, I was wrong. My family was wrong… or perhaps they just didn’t have the heart to tell me?

In time my mate left me for another. I couldn’t blame him, there was no future to be had with me. Once you had a red ribbon you would wear it for life, to go outside without it is considered a crime. Everyone who sees you must know, the beast of thought is weak in this one, there is no mate to be had here.

I continued looking at my paws in the moonlight. These paws cost me my mate, they make me a burden to everyone around me. They meant I was closer to the wild animals we hunted in the forest than my own people. They couldn’t afford me reproducing and diluting the beast of thought even more, if our people was to have a future it needed to remain strong.

I curled up and went to sleep.

The following morning, after I had eaten and mother brushed my fur, I set out once again to fetch water from the stream. The bucket around my neck rattling noisily as I walked.

I laid it on the ground by the stream and teased the lid from it with my beak as I usually did, but then there was a noise. I heard the long grass rustling, somewhere beyond the stream. I looked that direction, waiting to see if anything else happened, nothing did. That was a rather large disturbance of the grass considering the animals I knew to live here.

Eventually I decided to investigate. I knew where the stream got shallower and I could walk to the other side without getting too wet. Abandoning the bucket for now, I walked into the stream; taking careful note of the path across. Eager to see what was over there.

Once there I peered upward at the wall of grass, it was somewhat intimidating not being able to see what lay before you. If I could stand I could look over it, but not on all fours as I walked. Taking a breath to strengthen my nerve, I ventured inward.

I wasn’t sure what I was expecting to see, all that lay before me was dense tall grass, I couldn’t tell what direction I was even going. The leaves tickled my tail as it closed around me, each paw step crunching noisily below. Eventually I exited onto shorter grass, the sky darkened by a mass of tree branches overhead. What was it that I had heard earlier?

Suddenly a creature lunged towards me from the tall grass, I just managing to maneuver my body to the side as a spear struck the dirt. Catching my heart, I looked upon this strange beast. It stood tall with a thick furred back, its underbelly dark bare skin, there were paws hanging over its chest. Its face concealed behind a flat mask with markings painted on it.

It looked at me through darkened holes, pulling the spear from the dirt before attempting to lunge at me again. It grunting loudly as it did so.

I managed to get out of the way once again as the spear cut through the air. What sort of beast was this? I had never seen something with paws over its shoulders, it already had hands it used to grasp the spear; so it had both paws and hands. I had never seen that before.

I took it in for a moment more, before fleeing back into the tall grass before it could compose itself to strike again. The grass that had tickled me earlier now whipped against me, all I knew is that I had to get away. Why? Why was it attacking me, the tribes were at peace.

Exiting the grass I headed for the stream, there wasn’t time to find the shallow path, I dived in and paddled across franticly. Looking back to see the creature following me, spear in hand. Because of its height it was able to walk across the stream, its stride faster than my uncoordinated swimming.

I reached the other side, panting in exhaustion as the panic took its toll, the tall creature just behind. I fell...

I kicked the shallow water frantically, rolling me onto my back. I knew I needed to get up, but I just kept kicking wildly, fear filling my eyes as it approached and the spear rose.

“Please no!” I screeched, as loudly as I could... the creature froze in its place.

It just stood there as I managed to struggle back onto all fours, panting heavily as I increased the distance between us. I looked back, it had lowered its spear and was just staring at me from behind that mask.

Against my better judgement I ceased running once at a comfortable distance, catching my breath as the desire to fight seemed to drain from my attacker. Mysteriously, it then dropped to its knees in the shallow water, its face turned downward.

“Please forgive me” it eventually said in a masculine tone, desperation in its voice. “I didn’t know you were an animal spirit, please… forgive me.”

It seemed genuinely distressed, as if fearing for its own life.

“I beg of you” it continued, “do not curse me for what I have done.”

I was perplexed by its behaviour, I didn’t know whether to flee or pity it. It seemed genuinely remorseful, so once I had caught my breath and my heart felt calmer; I decided to stay and talk with the creature.

“Why did you try to hunt me?” I asked of it, taking a few cautious steps closer. It peered up only to bury its face down again as it realised I was approaching.

It composed itself and spoke again. “It is our right of passage, to hunt a great beast and bring honour to our tribe.” It lifted its head slightly, peering out from behind its mask. “I had never seen a creature such as yourself, I thought…” it lowered its head again. “I have travelled far seeking to bring great honour to our tribe, I thought I found that honour, but… I didn’t know”. It returned to its pleading, as if I posed some sort of threat to it.

I understood rights of passage, our own people hunted to bring honour to their tribes, but they’d never confuse one of their own with a wild beast. Something was different about this one...

“Which tribe do you belong to” I inquired of the creature, taking a few cautious steps closer. “How is it that you have not seen those like myself before? Surely, your own village must be diverse with beasts as well?”

It didn’t respond, maintaining its downward stare, hands outstretched and resting on the shallow water below as the current ran over them. Strangely, his second pair of hands didn’t appear to have claws, they were neither paws nor talons. I had never seen hands that looked so lean and delicate. I had never seen someone with two sets of different hands either, his upper pair were completely paws; in contrast to those below.

“May I ask…” I continued, stepping forward slightly and keeping a single paw raised. “What sort of beast are you? I’ve never seen anything like you before”.

The eyes of the mask raised to meet mine, there was a silence as if it was not sure what to say. “But…” it finally said, “I’m not a beast, I am a man”.

“No that’s not what I meant” I responded shaking my head, “Man is your gender, I was asking what sort of beast you are”. I paused, thinking. “What I mean is, what type of animals make up your body? What were your parents and siblings?”

“I do not understand spirit” said the man from behind the mask. “I am not a beast, I am a man”.

I looked over myself. “See, look at me.” I moved my body sideways, bringing myself into clearer view. “I’ve got avian and feline in me, you can see lizard in my tail, goat in my horns...” He glanced over me as I explained myself. “I can see you have bear in you, your back is covered in their fur. Your ears are of a bear and I can see your paws are of a bear. So that’s one type of animal”.

He suddenly stood up, before then pulling the fur from his back. It left him easily, I suddenly realising that it was a pelt he was wearing and not actually part of his body. He dropped it at his side.

There stood a tall lean creature, taller standing than anything I had ever seen before. He had no hunch or curve to his body, his legs did not bend, he didn’t have a tail to support him. He just stood fully upright, somehow balanced despite little to aid it.

The fur lacking skin of his underbelly in fact covered his body, only in a few isolated areas did hair seem to grow. He removed his mask, small brown eyes peered at me from an incredibly flat face, he had no muzzle at all.

My eyes widened as I realised, I recognised these features, I knew them well from what I had been taught. Was this… was he really? He returned to his knees, his clothing lay in a pile next to him soaking up the stream. Bowing his head again, he resumed his pleading to me. “Please spirit, forgive me. Do not curse my tribe for what I am done”.

He just stayed there, silently, in that begging pose. Waiting for my response. I didn’t know how to react, what made him think I had the power to curse him? But, I really shouldn’t tell him otherwise. After all, believing me to be a ‘spirit’ is the only reason he ceased his hunt.

I breathed in heavily through my nostrils, putting on an authoritative voice. “If you leave here peacefully, and cause no more harm, I see no reason to curse you.” I sat down, curling my tail around me, satisfied he would pose no further threat.

He looked up, I could see the relief in his eyes, before he lowered his head again and thanked me enthusiastically.

Eventually he stood back up, gathering his things. I watched as he turned to walk back into the tall grass from which I fled just earlier. But then he stopped, turning to look my way again.

I was surprised as he turned right around and came back my way in a hurry, he wasn’t carrying his spear in any threatening manner. He got closer than before, kneeling before me and bowing his head. The fine feathers on my chest became floofy, I really couldn’t figure out what drove his behaviour.

“I have no right to ask after what I have done… but.” He paused, as if considering his words. What he wanted to say seemed difficult for him. “I heard that… animal spirits... could grant wishes?”

My ears perked up, to which he responded by lowered his gaze even further. His culture seemed to have very strange beliefs as to the capabilities of my people. Even if I could grant wishes, after he tried to kill me…

I looked away, considering my options before speaking. “Well… that...” I thought for a moment more, before looking toward him again, his head held so low to the ground his hair was caught in the stream. “That depends on the wish” I eventually said to him.

“I am the youngest of three brothers” he spoke, lifting his face from the wet. “The eldest brother has already taken a wife, his wife bore children, but the children…” He looked away, trying to hide the sadness in his eyes. “The children were born sickly and weak, they did not live”.

Silence filled the air, only the sound of rushing water could be heard. He continued.

“When I have fulfilled my right of passage, I’ll have the right to take a wife.” His sight returned to mine. “Please spirit… let our children be born healthy, bless them so that they may become strong and skillful hunters”.

I looked away. I pitied him, fearing the loss of his future children must be an ever present concern. To live with that possibility haunting you... I would allow him his wish, if only to comfort him, as it wasn’t within my power to actually grant it.

I thought to myself for a few moments more, readying whatever seemed suitable to put on the appearance of granting what he had asked. But the more I thought, the more possibilities emerged. My eyes widened as my mind played with them.

“I will personally assure your children's health, they will grow strong and hunt with the skill of your most magnificent predator” I said in a firm and proud voice “...but on condition”.

“Anything!” He cried out, his eyes full of hope.

“If you would please me, your wish will be granted”.

“How may I please you spirit” he asked of me.

“As a male, you should know that.” I stood up, taking on a seductive stance, moving my tail in an alluring fashion.

“I don’t understand spirit, how does I being male help me please you?” He looked at me with genuine confusion, my feminine tease apparently being wasted on him. I grunted frustratedly, gesturing him to approach me. He did so cautiously.

He joined me on dry land and kneeled, maintaining a distance. “Closer” I told him, to which he got up and hastily approached; stopping just as swiftly and kneeling again. “Closer!” I commanded, he repeated his prior behaviour; stopping still a distance from myself. I cawed at him loudly in displeasure, he got the hint and got up again, this time stopping right in front of me.

I lifted a foreleg, placing one of my paws on the side of his face. I felt across his unusual skin with the pads, it was warm and soft with a slight hint of moisture. I brushed my claws through his hair, wrapping my dewclaw in a few threads before letting it fall away. His eyes following my paw as I moved it around.

I moved the paw to his shoulder and rested it there, our eyes locking together, giving him the best smile my beak could muster. “You say you’re of age?” I inquired.

“Yes, but I still need to pass my right of passage, I still need to hunt a strong beast before…” I hushed him with a digit of my paw. It’s clawed tip scratching his lips lightly as I removed it.

“So you’re of mating age then? You need to complete your right of passage to be considered an adult, to take a wife, but your body is… ready is it not?” I looked over him as I spoke, accessing this male specimen.

“It is forbidden in my village to take a wife before completing the right of passage, yes. Only a recognised man can be mated with a women”.

“Well I’m a female…” I said, my pawpads now feeling over his chest. “But I’m sure your village was thinking of your own kind when setting those rules…”

His eyes widened, “you’re a female?”

I lurched back, placing both paws firmly on the ground before me, then squarked loudly; causing him to recoil. “Of course I’m female” I scolded, “isn’t it obvious?”

The man composed himself, bowing his head again. “I’m sorry animal spirit, of course…” He stayed bowed for a moment, then the situation seemed to dawn on him. He lifted his head, looking at me in disbelief. I felt my chest feathers beginning to poof in response to his stare, he was making me feel self aware as he looked over my body, I did my best to keep them down.

“You wish for me… to mate with you?” He eventually said.

“What else did you think pleasing meant?” I spat at him, then diverted my eyes, feeling awkward at the proposition.

It was true, we had only met and I was asking for us to mate there and then. It was a ridiculous request, more so if he was only used to being around his own people. Our kind was used to a diversity in partners, to him I was nothing more than a talking animal.

He was quiet and looking to the ground, seemingly assessing his options. Eventually he spoke again.

“My sons and daughters… they will grow strong and healthy?” He asked, clarifying his prior wish.

“More than you can imagine” I promised.

“Then I will please you… to the best of my ability, spirit”.

His willingness caught me by surprise, as he stood and unfastened his loin cloth, allowing it to fall to the ground. Revealing the genitals of his kind. It was all too quick for me, I had never mated, I wasn’t sure if I was ready. Nevertheless I turned around, stretched my hind legs further apart, lifting my tail to present my rear to him. I looked back with uncertain eyes.

He approached it, taking hold of my tailed rear in both of his capable hands, I felt thumbs working their way through a mass of feathers; eventually settling and stroking around my entrance once they had located it. Stretching it open, teasing it. I gasped as the first wave of stimulation hit me, my genitals eager for more as my tail lifted higher in response.

I hadn’t felt like this since… since my mate. We couldn’t breed before I was judged, but we could play. He’d tease my body and I’d tease his, driving each other as close to bliss as our restrictions would allow. Being touched this way again, it reminded me of him.

I squarked lustfully as the thumbs buried deeper, stroking and caressing whatever inner flesh they could find. It sent bolts of sensation deeper into me, my tail jerking in response, I felt myself moistening. I had forgotten...

“Does it please you spirit?” Asked the man, I looked back with an open panting beak, nodding blissfully. I could see his member erecting, it seemed he had managed to find something in me after all.

“When my kind mate, we lay on the ground” he followed with. “Would you like to try that?”

I contemplated while his digits did their work back there, my mind fighting through the blissful feelings to consider his suggestion. I decided to give it a go, walking from his skillful hands and finding a small hill to lay against. I rolled onto my back on a particularly grassy patch, my hind legs splayed either side as I held my frontal paws closely to my chest, awaiting his approach.

My tail twitched excitedly as he did so, him sitting with it between his own legs as he lay over me. I felt his member rest against my opening as he kneeled on top, the feathers on my tail’s underside tickling his hanging testicles. I burned for him.

“Are you ready?” He asked of me, I nodded, my beak sealed tightly. I closed my eyes and laid back, trying to relax and limber up. They shot open as I felt him enter me, I squealed in delight. Looking over my feathered chest as I saw this male creature press up against me, into me, his lean belly pressing intimately against the teats of my underside.

At long last… I had a man inside of me…

He groaned as he pulled himself all the way in, taking hold of me for better grip. Noticing as my tail curled up against his rear, teasing at his back, I too wanted to keep him close.

He rested his strong capable hands on my chest and played with my teats as he began the motions. Intuitively caressing over my nipples. I squarked in delight at the sensation, their females must have teats too for him to know how to treat them so well.

My hind legs raised and fell each time he pushed into me, the base of my tail pressing upward against him each time he explored inward. I had been stimulated before, but nothing like this, nothing so deep. I held my paws weakly against my chest, them occasionally flicking upward in response, as I felt his member glide in and out of my womanhood.

He eventually abandoned playing with my teats, his hands supporting himself either side of my body; as he got even closer against me. His inward thrusts intensified.

I looked at the man pressing against me from behind widening eyes, my beak hanging open in a feral pant as the pleasure within me grew. Again and again, quicker and quicker, I felt his member push into my body; sending shock waves throughout my being. I knew mating would feel good, but I never imagined… I didn’t know!

I broke out into loud cawing as he grunted away, my hips squirming against him, my tail lashing wildly with each inward push. It was all too much, I never knew, I never knew it would feel so good!

I cried out louder, I didn’t want it to stop, I didn’t want to lose this feeling. I reached out with my forelegs and grabbed him, holding him closer as he continued to spread me. Squeezing my eyes tightly shut I gripped onto him, I immersed myself in the internal experience. How my inner walls teased at his member, squeezed it lovingly, tasting its texture. The feeling was rapturous.

I continued my shameless cawing, listening to him moan on top of me. The pleasure within me growing stronger and more powerful with each passing second. Suddenly it peaked, my internals sent into an eruption, I screeched. My eyes bulging as I was rocked with orgasms, feeling the impulsion to lick across his neck affectionately with a desperate enthusiasm; in thanks of the experience he was granting me.

As I rode them out, he too seemed to peak. He moaned loudly, suddenly followed by the sensation within me of his penis throbbing. Warm shoots of liquid firing into my depths. My eyes glazed over behind drooping eyelids as I milked him, our interactions slowing to a sensual caressing as he fed me his seed.

I closed my eyes and smiled as I savoured what remained of our mating. My hind legs gripped around him, rocking him in and out of me as my genitals tightly milked him for the remainder of whatever seed he had to offer. I wanted to make sure I got all of it.

Eventually the flow of his seed stopped, as did our movements, we just lay together panting in the aftermath. He felt wet against me, his body was covered in small beads of water. I licked at them in curiosity. It was all so surreal, as he lay on top of me recovering, his member still in my moist womanhood. I knew that I had mated, yet part of my mind was unsure. It had been a forbidden concept for so long, I couldn’t quite accept it had actually happened. But it did.

There was calm for a while as I held him affectionately, not wanting it to end. Inevitably he did have to get up from me, my genitals sealing shut behind a floof of wet feathers as his member left me.

He turned his muscular back to me and stretched noisily, before beginning to collect his things. I just lay in the heap of grass and watched him dress, enjoying the sensuality the experienced had left over me.

Eventually he had all his things and it was time for him to go, he just stood there with his back to me. He looked over his shoulder, taking in for one last time the creature he had just mated with, then departed for the other side of the stream. I just watched as he made his way, disappearing behind the tall grass and out of view. I was left alone once again.

Everything was as it should be. The wind was warm, the stream flowed noisily, avian creatures could be heard chirping all around. I looked over everything curled up on my grass bed, it was strange how the world could remain the same after something so... I had mated, I was the one different now.

Mother would worry if I took too long, so I got up and hurried for my bucket. Dragging it out into the stream to complete my chore as quickly as possible, my tail held a little higher while I did it today. A pleasant buzz in my rear still remained.

I took my usual path home, walking a bit slower today having expended a lot of energy. In time I reached the gates of my tribe, the familiar warrior guarding the entrance nodding my direction as I passed. I nodded back wearily.

I continued to make my way home, when suddenly I felt a hand grasp my tail and pull upward. I turned to see the guard behind with my tail in his hand, he looked over me with disgust. “You have mated, haven’t you?” He demanded angrily, the question being pointless. I reeked of pheromones and sex so there was no denying it.

Before I could respond he was at my side and took hold of one of my horns, pulling me aggressively towards the direction of the chieftain's hut. My heart raced as several other villagers watched me pass them, many of whom I knew well.

He pulled me inside and slammed the entrance shut behind us, several elders rising in response to seeing a female treated so aggressively. I backed up as he walked to one of the female elders and whispered in their ear, their expression turning to anger. He was told to wait outside, looking at me with a scowl as he passed me.

Silence filled the room as the warrior left, only the steps of the female elder could be heard as she approached me. The chieftain remained seated and watched on. I shrank where I stood as she walked around me, taking note of the wetness of my rear, I heard her hiss…

Like the warrior she approached me from behind, lifting my rear by its tail, I looked back tearfully as she sniffed at the area. A single clawed finger then felt across my still swollen genitals, she tasted the wetness from it. Suddenly, her expression changed. She looked startled, looking between myself and the other elders.

I felt a clawed hand across my rear sampling the mixture of sexual fluids, then she left me there, approaching the other elders and introducing them to the scent. They talked amongst themselves lively, occasionally looking back at me, before finally the female left and whispered in the chieftains ear. He nodded in agreement to whatever she said.

“Fetch it now!” Commanded the elder female, another elder nodding and producing a small box from a nearby sack. She took it from him and approached me once again, my ears curled backward as I diverted my gaze, fearing what came next.

She stopped before me, I then felt her tie… something around one of my horns.

She stepped away and returned to her seat, the other elders followed suit. When I looked up I could see my face reflecting in a large metallic dish balanced against the huts wall. I was looking back at myself, a… purple ribbon was tied to one of my horns. The red one was gone.

I looked back to the elders, they were all… bowing their heads. Even the chieftain was bowing. A rush of conflicting emotions came over me, I knew that man could of been… I suspected, but to be proven right in this way. The tears finally fell from me, but they were no longer sorrowful.

Eventually they rose their heads again, the chieftain remaining until the very last. He spoke to me with a smile. “You’ve done very well, my child. You’ve brought much honour to your tribe. Now dry your eyes, you’ve done right by your people”.

Once again, they all bowed. I left the chieftain's hut feeling light headed.

Outside stood the warrior guard that brought me here, many of the people who saw me taken here had also come to see what was happening. The guards face was in anger, but it immediately changed to shock as my purple ribbon came into view. He diverted his eyes, then got down onto his knees; bowing his head. Everyone… got down onto their knees.

I walked past them, looking side to side at the people I knew, their heads lower to the ground than my own.

I had never seen so many from this perspective before, to see so many from above. It was all so surreal, I just wanted to go home so I left the crowd there. The warrior had gotten up and chased after me, asking that I let him carry the water bucket for me. I wasn’t going to decline.

It was strange walking home, different people bowing their heads in respect as I made my way, someone carrying my burden for me... It was like a dream.

I didn’t lie to that man. His children would grow to be strong, they would become skilled hunters. I’d personally ensure that would be the case. They’d have their father's power to reshape the forest and their mother's beauty, they’d be magnificent beasts.
