Coalescence Book I - Chapter 4 - Trapped
Chapter 4 - Trapped
-H-
"What do you want?.. Please... let me go." My voice sounded tired, exhausted after yelling.
I sounded pitiful, I sounded scared.. because I was. A deadly, clawed hand wrapped around my own, I was trapped by something that was a part of me.. How can you get away from something growing inside of you? My thoughts briefly drifted to Mom again.. The hand didn't hurt me, it didn't move. It just waited as I continued to speak with it, trying to communicate with a hand. It was nonsense, pure, utter and complete nonsense. It had to be a dream but it felt so real. There was a tickling around my head, a fuzzy feeling, maybe I really was going insane.
The hand gave mine a squeeze after I spoke, so I repeated my question of what it wanted. Another squeeze. That told me nothing.. but it was a start. I could work with this.
"You can.. hear me. Understand me?" There was a brief hesitation.. before it squeezed my hand again, "O..okay. Will you let me go?"
I waited for the squeeze.. but it didn't come. I was trapped. My heart began thumping harder in my chest as I scanned the room.. eyeing the knife block on the kitchen counter. The hand must have sensed that somehow.. it stroked a finger along mine lightly, almost reassuringly if it hadn't been for the weird, body horror situation I was dealing with.
"Are you going to hurt me?"
The hand didn't squeeze.. my shoulders relaxed ever so slightly, could I trust a phantom beast hand? "You are.. friendly?"
I tried to choose my words carefully, keep things simple so I could get a yes or no response. A squeeze. It squeezed my hand, and more relief washed over me. This was weird and horrifying, but curiosity began to replace little parts of the fear.. or at least ride alongside it.
"I don't know how to ask half the things I want to ask in a yes or no question.. Like what are you? Uh.. alright.. are you a ghost or a spirit or..?" My voice trailed off, waiting for it's response.. no squeeze.
If it wasn't some sort of ethereal spirit then I had no idea how it seemed to be able to pass through me like one.. or I guess in this case pass out of me. My gut wrenched a little as the thought of more of this creature being inside of me, through the rest of my body. Occupying the same space.
Looking down at it's hand I could see where our wrists became one, it's furry body faded into my pink skin. It was nearly seamless, like a Photoshop job done with delicate care but I could see it being done in real time as a little more of it's arm pulled free of mine so they could readjust their grip. Flesh, warm, soft skin and fur held mine. I could feel faint, soft pads under those digits that seemed halfway between firm animal pads and my own softer fingers. Those claws were careful not to scrape me.. but I kept eyeing them anyways.
"Werewolf?..."
The word slipped out softly, I felt a twitching stop my head. There was another brief hesitation before a soft squeeze on my hand.
Where do you go from there? A werewolf beast of some sort was inside me and trying to free itself? I was in an episode of the Twilight Zone and I didn't have the slightest idea what twists could happen.
"Is there.. more to you?"
I knew the answer, I could feel it itching to get out, I had seen more to the arm when it had grabbed the bathroom door frame. My breath caught in my throat as I got another squeeze.
"...S..show me." I had to force the words out, I couldn't sit here like this the rest of the night in some weird limbo.
I nearly jumped out of my skin, apologies for the all too real phrasing, as I felt something touch my other hand. I looked over expecting a werewolf hand but it was somehow a less expected sight. My cat. She was coming up to see what I was doing, and why I had disturbed her sleep by making noise and freaking out. I reached out to pet her.. but a second hand began to extend from my own. It pulled itself free slowly, tugging lightly at my flesh before letting go like it had been stuck with weak adhesive.
Sawyer jumped as much as I had, hissing at me and smacking both my hand and the beast's in a series of rapid little swats, before sliding off the couch arm rather ungracefully and scampering off out of the room. She wasn't exactly the friendliest cat to begin with, she only gave me the time of day when she wanted something, but now I expected I wouldn't be seeing her for the rest of the night. I'd comfort her later, right now I had my own problems. Problems I highly doubted anyone else was going through. Arms peeled from mine, pulling very lightly at my skin and arm hair before they became their own solid, separate limbs. Clawed hands gripped my hands and I held very still.. something was happening with my vision. It clouded briefly and distorted, something was pulling out of my face! I could feel the little tugs at my cheeks and lips, trying to lift my hands to touch them.. but the beast held them down gently.
Shivers ran through me, my breathing came heavier and heavier. I was looking at the back of a large, ebony furred head. it was pulling forward, the base of it extending from my Adam's apple.. then another few inches pulled forward and it was hurting from my chest. The shape looked familiar. Doglike. Like a Husky or German Shepherd but bigger, those large ears flicked back to listen to the little gasp that slipped from my lips. The head turned some to follow. It was a wolf. The face was more.. expressive than a normal wolf or dog head, it was something I noticed immediately.. but it was definitely a large, black furred wolf. Golden eyes met mine for the first time.. and fangs began to show. Teeth. My whole body tensed up, expecting those teeth to snap at me, my throat vulnerable and my hands held down. The bite didn't come.. he just stared and.. smiled? Was it a smile?
The great beast seemed so large practically sitting in my lap, torso twisted and neck craned to look at me over it's shoulder. Of course it's lap didn't exist yet, it had only peeled itself out of me down to it's waist.. we seemed to currently share a pelvis. It was weird. All of it. describing it. Thinking about it. Seeing it above all else. That wolfish face grinned at me, a scary expression. Those arms let go of my hands to reach back. It began to touch me, touch my arms, my shoulders.. before that muzzle leaned in and pushed against my cheek. That nose was cold, wet, and rubbed at my cheek as I held still and gawked.
"Hi..."
The word slipped out, sounding childish and silly, but I had at least gotten my mouth to make a noise. The wolf's ears twitched and those big paws squeezed my arms. Deadly jaws opened, revealing a steamy, drooling maw as a growling, gravelly tone seemed to try to mimic my greeting. It did not sound quite like a word but it seemed to excite the creature that he had made a noise. I could feel the phantom feeling of something moving inside my belly, so I looked down. At the base of it's spine it was connected to my belly button.. Was it.. was it wagging its tail inside of me? I was both weirdly happy to have made the monstrous creature's tail wag.. and horrified, grossed out by the strange feeling of it being inside of me ready to pull out and become solid like the rest of it's body.
Once that squeamish and queasy feeling passed I began to study the wolf.. as much as it was studying me. That canine nose was sniffing away at me like I was the most interesting thing in the world.. maybe I was. To it, maybe. it's fur was deep, glossy black and thick, it was almost difficult to tell how big it was beneath that ebony pelt, but I could see muscles flex and move along it's back and neck. The creature looked like it could tear me apart whenever it felt the urge, but it seemed too utterly fascinated with me to do so. I sat there amazed and confused, letting it inspect me. It was strangely silent in the room now, I realized I had been holding my breath and let it out all at once. The wolf inhaled and sniffed wildly, pushing it's snout practically into my mouth. It would have if I hadn't quickly closed my lips. I was going to make an offhand joke about it invading my personal space a bit.. but I think it was far beyond inside of my personal space by now.
