Dragon Apartment Ch5: Ground Rules
Imported from SF2 with no description.
Levian here. Thank you all for your continued support. this is the longest chapter I've ever done at a little over 21 pages (10000 words). I'm glad I can provide a source of entertainment while everyone is inside. This chapter is mostly story like Ch3, but that is because i had to split it in two. it was getting too long, but that means I've got a head start of Ch6 already~
Eon had a little trouble opening the door to his apartment, Kira relaxed in his grasp. He managed to turn the handle and then he just kicked the door open. The door flew open, slamming against the wall with a loud bang. Eon cringed, knowing he probably just added a new fee to his monthly rent. That door was normally not that easy to open, so he probably just kicked it too hard.
The main room of the apartment was surprisingly empty, even though the sun was up, and it was almost ten in the morning. Eon didn't think the dragons were late sleepers, so he was worried that something had happened in his room again. He gave Kira a look and she gave him a knowing one. They did leave Lyra in a room with two other male dragons. Chances were something had happened.
Holding Kira, Eon approached the bedroom door and opened it quickly, “Hey! What are you three…doing…"
Eon was confused by what he saw. Levian was laying on his back beside the bed, Skree cuddling his belly feathers. Lyra was laying on the bed, looking incredibly annoyed. She looked up at Eon and Kira, her eyes narrowing at them. She jumped off the bed and stormed past Eon, her fur bristling and tail twitching in annoyance. She paused and gave Kira a look, letting out a hiss, “stupid males! They are too selfish and stupid and…and…it is your fault!"
Lyra ground her teeth and continued on her way, jumping on the couch and sitting stoically on the couch. Eon could have sworn she was a statue with as still as she was sitting. Kira sniffed the air and let out a sigh, “I'll talk with her."
Eon put her down, wincing as his movements made his back hurt. Kira's claws made quite an impression…
The red scaled dragoness nodded toward the bedroom, “you also might want to make sure they are okay. It looks like they had it rough."
Eon just looked at Kira, “they…they had it rough? My ass says otherwise."
Kira giggled, flicking her tail at him and walking toward Lyra, “Use your nose, you idiot. I know you can smell it too."
Eon took a moment to process that. Did…did Kira change a little? She was acting a little nicer. Maybe she had managed to loosen up a little. Still, he would let them talk about whatever it was they needed to talk about. Eon slipped into the room proper and took a deep breath. He almost coughed as he inhaled a deep and musty scent that was all too familiar from last night. It smelled suspiciously like Dracogryph cum and there was a hint of Skree's scent as well. How did he not notice that?
Eon leaned down and gave Levian's ears a quick rub, the hybrid letting out a murmur and opening his eyes a little, “Hey, what happened to you two? Why is Lyra mad…and why does it smell like you and Skree."
Skree let out a yawn, rolling over and slipping off Levian's belly. The groggy Wyvern stood and spread his wings as he stretched. Skree leaned against Levian, his belly looking quite full. Levian simply groaned, closing his eyes, “The door was locked, and Lyra's scent was everywhere. We had to control ourselves somehow."
Skree flapped his wings a few times, taking off and then landing on Eon's shoulder. He looked at Eon for a moment, pulling lightly at his hair, “was your hair always white?"
Eon shook his head, “I'll get to that later. Why was Lyra so mad?"
Levian chuckled, rolling to his feet and standing up. He stretched his neck, a few vertebrae popping, “oh, that is easy. She woke up to me and Skree licking each other. She had been asleep and she slept and smelled…so appetizing…" Levian let out a light growl, then shook his head, “apparently us respecting her body was not what she wanted and she's mad at us. So Skree and I decided to just keep going till we both came."
Skree let out a chuckle, shaking his head. “what he means to say is that he really wanted to screw Lyra silly, but he grabbed me instead. When she woke up, she acted ridiculously mad about it. I would have told her to calm down, but then Levian forced me lick that tree he calls a cock just to spite her."
Levian shrugged, “I would have changed my mind if she didn't act mad about it when she woke up. Besides, you were the one who licked me first! If I remember, you were the one that wanted to make her mad by getting off. You enjoyed yourself too."
Skree let out a huff, looking away from the hybrid, “o-of course I did! Who wouldn't enjoy waking up to a long tongue digging in their slit? And you enjoyed making her mad too, each time she yelled at you, you oozed more pre."
Levian chuckled at that, licking along his claws.
Eon could piece a story together from what he had seen and heard. He could guess that Lyra had wanted them to play with her while she pretended to be asleep, but Levian took the high road and politely ignored her. Skree and Levian had been playing with each other and Lyra complained, so then the two males gave her a show while ignoring her completely. From what he knew about the two males…as well as his own recent experience with the two dragonesses'…he could not blame the males. Lyra had quite an unusual taste in her play time.
Still, something bugged him a little. He had covered Lyra up with his jacket to keep her scent from spreading too quickly so that something like this would not happen. As he looked around the room, he didn't see the jacket anywhere, “Levian, when you woke up was Lyra covered by a jacket?"
Levian shook his head, “no. she was laying with her belly up and her legs spread. If that horny wyvern hadn't jumped in my way, I would have done things I would have regretted."
“ugg, you crazy hybrid! You grabbed me while I was asleep!"
Levian chuckled, licking his maw, “oh, that was the story, right? The heroic wyvern saving the dragoness from the horny hybrid. We are just going to ignore the fact you were licking her before I grabbed you to stop you."
Skree didn't say anything, but his tail smacked on Eon's shoulder, a sign he was annoyed…and caught in his lie. Eon laughed. He laughed loudly and he shook his head. These were dragons! And they were arguing over who didn't do something! Still, he decided to tell them a little secret anyway, “Lyra had wanted you two to do that. I had left her covered up before I left with Kira and I didn't lock the door because I didn't want her to be stuck in a room with two males. Apparently, Lyra likes the idea of someone breeding her while she pretends to sleep. Enough to lock the door and put herself on display for you."
Skree chuckled and shook his head and Levian let out a hearty huff at that, “Lyra? No way! Kira would give her a verbal lashing if she tried something like that. Why would she do that? Better yet, how would you know that?"
Eon simply placed a hand on his hair and pulled on the now white strands, “I didn't have white hair till about twenty minutes ago. Anyone else you know with white hair this bright?"
Both males were quiet for a moment, then Levian let out a growl when he put it together, “that furry white harlot! Oh, if she only knew the willpower it took to stop myself from railing her…grrr….if she does that again, she will not be able to walk straight for a few days."
Eon grinned, then winced as Skree's tail slapped onto one of the scratched Kyra had left on his back. Skree noticed the wince, looking around Eon's shoulders. That was when he noticed that Eon's back was bleeding and his shoulder was still covered in dried blood from when Lyra bit him. He hopped off Eon's shoulder hovering by Levian, “Eon! You're bleeding!"
Eon didn't have time to say much. Hearing that Eon was bleeding made Levian look him over, taking in Eon's condition. He had a bite wound on his shoulder and it had been bleeding recently. His pants were also missing the crotch and while Levian enjoyed the view of Eon's human bits hanging out, Levian could also smell a dragoness on Eon. He knew it was not Lyra. This scent was stronger, and he could smell what he could only assume was Eon's seed. Skree's tail had a little red on it from where it had hit Eon's back, so the Hybrid leaned forward and placed a claw on Eon's unwounded shoulder. Moving his head to look at Eon's back, Eon was pulled into his feathery chest. Levian knew what claw marks looked like and Eon had said that he had been alone with Kira. Levian let go of Eon and then nosed at Eon's legs. After a moment of looking, he found what he had been afraid of.
Looking closer, Levian could just make out small holes on Eon's pant leg, spaced at regular intervals. Moving his head to look behind Eon, he could follow the pattern. It was in a spiral shape, like something had been wrapped around his leg with sharp points. Levian let out a growl, his eyes snapping up to look at Kira.
Eon shivered as Levian moved around him, the hybrid's sudden interest in him making him feel uneasy. Eon jumped a little at Levian's growl, then the hybrid moved his head back to look at Eon. Levians eyes were glowing with an internal light, the purple iris becoming brighter. The violet light seeping from his eyes made the feathers on his face shine slightly. It gave Levian a very intense stare, one that Eon instantly did not like, “Eon, what happened this morning."
Eon ignored Levian's intense look as best he could. It was unsettling and he had a feeling that it was not a good sign. He did notice that Levian kept looking over his shoulder, toward the place that Kira and Lyra were sitting.
He decided to play it cool, “well, Lyra and Kira had come into the room to sleep. I woke up and tried to hold Lyra close, but she decided she wanted to play. So she had moved so that her…vent…was where my hand was and then she wouldn't let me ignore her. so I gave her a fingering and she bit me when she reached her finish."
Levian looked at him, unblinking, his eyes growing a little brighter. Eon could feel the hair on his arms standing up. Levian moved closer, “what happened to your leg."
Eon didn't like where Levian was going with this and He stood and looked the hybrid in the eye, keeping himself between the hybrid and the rest of the apartment. He didn't like that Levian had singled out the least significant detail about how he looked, unless Levian knew how Eon got those holes in his pant leg. That gaze Levian had was different then when Eon had seen before. The Levian from yesterday was not as frightening.
Eon held his ground, “I tore them while going up the stairs to the roof with Kira."
Eon came even closer, his large head and maw close enough that Eon could almost feel the charged air around the hybrid, “You are lying. Kira did that. She poisoned you, didn't she."
Eon shook his head, “No. Even if she did, You are acting differently."
Levian let out a growl, a deep and threatening noise that shook the very air around Eon. Eon felt that fear coil in his gut again, but he had survived Kira and that experience gave him just enough confidence to hold his ground, “Human, you know nothing about me. Move."
Eon was running out of patience. His morning had been amazing, terrifying, then strangely pleasant, and now Levian was acting like he was ready to attack Kira. He was tired of the dragons flipping on a dime, calling him 'human' and simply ignoring his opinions on things. Levian had made it clear that they needed to work together on day one, yet so far all that had happened was the dragon's dragging him from one extreme to another. So far only Skree had been the most agreeable. Lyra had tricked him and used him for her morning fun time, Kira had borderline attacked him before 'punishing' him out of her own desires, and now Levian was trying to intimidate him! Still, Eon was going to try and stay calm here. He reached forward and put his hands on Levian's shoulders, pressing back, “Levian, sit down and we can talk. You and me, human to dragon."
Levian growled again, his fangs showing, “Let go of me, human. Kira is dangerous and I will keep us safe."
Eon had enough. He shoved Levian as hard as he could, shoving against his shoulders, “I said SIT AND LISTEN!"
Eon never expected to move Levian. Levian was bigger, mostly muscle, and he had four legs anchoring him. On top of that, he was taller than Eon and he had a heavy scaled backside. When Levian was shoved backward, he let out a cry of surprise and the glowing light in his eyes diminished a bit. A human of Eon's size shouldn't have the muscle mass needed to move him like that! Eon didn't seem to notice the surge of streagth, stepping forward as he pushed the larger dragon against the wall, then back onto his haunches. Levian was now sitting and Eon gave him a piece of his mind.
“I was under the impression that we would all work to keep the peace. It has been one day and I've bonded with three of you already! First Skree because he asked relatively nicely, Lyra because she has a thing for being played with while she sleeps, and Kira because she decided I needed to be taught a lesson for bonding with Lyra before her! In just twenty-four hours, I've had to deal with some really strange stuff and had to quickly accept a few things, such as being a walking dragon energy pack! Yes, I agreed to help and I still want to help, but I swear to god you all need to start listening!"
Eon paused for a breath, holding Levian down. He wasn't done and Levian was still looking at him with those glowing eyes, though the light had dismissed greatly. Those glowing eyes were pissing Eon off.
“You all are strange to me; you are all from a completely different world and different rules. Kira mentioned that the humans there are less than friendly with dragons, and I get that, I really do. People are stupid. Even in this world, I would not trust a stranger on the street with my name. But you need to give me more than a glance and respect that this is MY apartment, MY rules."
Eon heard someone coming closer. The light clank of scale on scale gave away who it was and Eon took a hand off Levian to turn and point an accusing finger at Kira. The red dragoness stopped in her tracks, looking at Eon with something akin to shock and a little fear. Eon didn't care. As long as he was able to get the dragons to listen this time, he would be that human. He could apologize later. Still, Eon was on a rampage and no one was safe.
“You! You need to relax and not overreact! Was what I did with Lyra this morning bad? Yes! It was! Would I do it again? You bet your scaly ass I would! Did that mean you had to drag me to the rooftop, attack me, then pin me down, envenom me and then ride me like a starved whore needing dick? NO!"
Levian started growling again. Eon turned his attention back to the hybrid. Levian was looking at Kira and growling, but as soon as he caught sight of Eon's glare he stopped. Levian even looked away, the light completely leaving his eyes. Eon rounded on Kira again.
“You need to ASK THESE THINGS! I probably would have said yes anyway. Ever since me and Skree bonded, I've found myself attracted to all of you, the shape of your bodies, the graceful curves, even those angled muzzles full of razor sharp teeth! Would I agree to getting envenomed without knowing the details of the venom and then get fucked into the cement? No! Would I agree to get pumped full of a sensation heightening drug and have the best fuck with a scaled beauty and have the strongest orgasm of my life? Sign me up! Speaking of asking permission, Lyra!"
Eon rounded on the furred dragon. She was still sitting on the couch and looking at the events unfolding from a safe distance. She jumped when Eon yelled at her, trying to make herself look smaller. She looked like she was over her little spat about Skree and Levian, but now she looked afraid of Eon. Eon didn't like it either, but he had gone too far to stop now.
“Lyra, there are rules when it comes to 'play time' that need to be followed. I know that everyone is a little different and different people get off to different things. It seems dragons are the exact same way, but Levian and Skree proved to me that there are boundaries too. You need to respect them! Believe me, if you were to offer yourself, I'm sure Levian and Skree would be more than happy to fuck your cute body into the dirt. Hell, you can even plan it so that you can be asleep when they start! Hell, I would join in on that myself!"
Lyra shuffled on her paws and Kira let out a growl at Eon. Eon let out a groan of frustration, then he focused on calming down. He closed his eyes for a few seconds and focused on breathing. One...two...three...four...and done.
Once he was a little calmer, he looked around and took stock of the damage he had done. Lyra had curled into a ball and was looking at him with scared blue eyes from the couch. Kira looked like she was torn between getting onto Eon for yelling at Lyra and dealing with her own actions in all this. Skree had taken refuge on the top of the door. The wyvern actively flinched when Eon looked at him and Eon felt a little guilt at that. Turning, he saw that Levian was still sitting and he was just looking at Eon curiously. He looked…surprised and scared all at once.
Eon would deal with the fear later. For now, they were listening to him. However, his back was throbbing and the scratch marks on his skin were starting to sting. He wanted to sit down. The table in the living area was large enough for them all to sit around it like some strange conference, so that is what they were going to do.
“all of you, come to the table now."
Levian shuffled forward a little, “umm, Eon…"
Eon looked at him again, “Table. Now."
Levian simply nodded, moving to scoot around Eon and into the living room. Eon let out a sigh, pressing his hands against his face. For a moment he thought his hands felt scaly, but when he looked again they were normal. It must have been his imagination. Imagination or not, he was going to 'negotiate' some rules.
********
Eon took a seat on the far side of the table. He had taken the time to change pants and slip a shirt on, even though the fabric irritated the scratches on his back and bite mark on his shoulder. The dragons had already chosen their seats. Lyra and Kira sat on the couch, Kira laying between Lyra and Eon. Levian sat on the opposite side, his tail coiled around his feet and claws as he tried to look as stoic as possible, but Eon could see that he didn't move his gaze away from Kira very much. Skree had decided to sit a little way away from the table, the wyvern standing on the sink and watching from a safe distance. Eon found that concerning. He did not yell at Skree earlier since he had not done much since yesterday. Perhaps Eon was worrying the wyvern.
Still, the main dragons he wanted to talk to were at the table. He looked between the three of them, then let out a sigh. He didn't like how it felt with them watching him like that, like he was going to yell at them again. Eon didn't like losing his temper, but he had been a little stressed from events today, “does anyone have anything to say for themselves before I begin?"
Kira nodded, looking at Eon, “S-sorry for how I acted Eon. I shouldn't have attacked you."
Eon nodded, then motioned for her to continue.
Kira glanced at Levian, then she focused on the table, “I-I should not have stung you. I was mad at the situation and all I could see was a human using my sister. I need to remember you are not just a human...and Lyra told me she really didn't give you much choice."
Eon simply nodded, his frustration melting away slowly. He knew the dragons could be reasonable. If what he had picked up from Kira's little tirade on the roof, humans back home were not very welcoming to the dragons there. He just needed to remind them that he was not one of those humans.
Lyra's voice echoed in his mind after, “I'm sorry too. I didn't think we would wake up Kira. And I'll remember to ask first."
Lyra looked up at Levian and Skree next, then back to the table, “I'm sorry to you guys as well. I just assumed you would be okay with it since we are all alone here."
Levian smiled at that, though his smile vanished before Kira could see. The hybrid shuffled on his feet a little, then looked at Eon. The glow in his eyes was gone, dimmed to the faint shimmer that Eon remembered. Whatever Levian had been fighting with had been buried again, “since we are all apologizing, I'm sorry too. Me and venomous dragons have a…history. I didn't know that Kira had venom till yesterday and I'm still getting used to the idea that I've been traveling with a venom spitter this whole time."
Kira let out a groan, shaking her head, “Part venom spitter. That blood is very thin in me."
Levian thumped his tail on the floor, but he didn't say anything else.
Eon waited a little bit. The dragons were talking and he had a feeling Levian had a secret he wasn't telling. Last night the power had flickered and the room had smelled like burning ozone when Eon had come back. He wasn't going to press it, but from the way Levian had reacted when he saw the Eon had been stung, He could safely assume that Levian was the reason for the power surge. He would have to keep and eye on the hybrid.
After a few more moments of Levian and Kira arguing, Eon decided it was enough. He was starting to feel tired, his earlier outburst took a lot out of him.
Eon cleared his throat and the other two went quiet. It was an interesting feeling to have the dragon's listening to him for once. If he wasn't careful, he might get used to it. Still, he needed to lay some things on the proverbial table. “alight, now that we have all come to talking terms again and Levian doesn't feel like jumping Kira because she has venom, let us put some rules in place. I'm going to hold you all to these rules. Skree, get over here. I know you can hear us, but I feel like you are being excluded."
Skree looked unsure for a moment, then came closer to them. The wyvern sat on the opposite end of the table, facing Eon. Skree still looked nervous, but after a moment passed and nothing happened, he calmed down and relaxed a little. Skree hated it when others started yelling around him, it made his body tense.
With all the dragons present, Eon started with the rules he had in mind, “since we really know nothing about each other, these rules will change as time goes on. First, no random sex with me."
The dragons didn't say anything, but they didn't have to. Eon could feel the collective groan of disappointment. Damn dragons. Eon sighed, “Okay, no sex without warning, specifically right after I wake up." Eon glanced directly at Lyra, then continued, “nine times out of ten, I'm going to say yes. The four of you are exotic and I'm drawn to you, so unless there is a good reason to say no, it will probably happen."
“Second, and this one is for you specifically Kira, No venom…unless I ask for it. I don't know what the history is between Levian and venom drakes, but his reaction alone was enough to convince me that you need to keep the venom tucked away. And you really had me worried when you used it on me. I didn't know what was going on and I would have panicked if it didn't feel so good at the same time. So, No venom except for the rare times I want to have an extra sensation boost."
Kira nodded, no objection from her.
Eon turned to Levian this time, “Third, no bullying. Levian, you are bigger than all of us and you could probably eat me in three bites if you really wanted too. I know you have a gentle side to you, I saw it yesterday, but you need to let me know things before you try to attack someone…specifically Kira, since you two don't get along sometimes. Play fighting is fine as long as there are no wounds, but if you had gotten past me it would not have been a play fight, would it?"
Levian looked like he wanted to say something, but he stopped. Eon didn't think that the hybrid had given it much thought and he was right. Levian didn't see what he had been doing as bullying, but when Eon pointed it out, it was hard to ignore. Levian looked at Kira, his eyes flicking away quickly, “Sorry for pinning you to the floor last night…and for wanting to rend you in half a moment ago. Eon's right, I need to get over the fact you are a venom spitter."
Kira sighed, “half venom spitter. and you would have a hard time tearing into me before I got a good bite on you."
Levian raised an eye ridge, a small smile tugging at the corners of his maw, “is that so? Eon did give us permission to play fight, as long as I didn't leave any marks…"
Kira chuckled, Leaning forward on the table, “I know you, hybrid, you will leave some marks, but they will be on the inside…nice and deep too…"
Levian let out a churr, placing his foreclaws on the table, “oh, think you can take me? I'm not gentle when 'fighting' you know."
Eon just looked between the two. Just five minutes ago, Levian was ready to tear Kira apart. Now they were making plans on getting together and, from the sound of things, screwing each other silly.. Did…was this normal? Lyra must have noticed his confusion because he heard her in his head, “don't mind them. Sex is one of the ways dragons vent. It is better than fighting for real, though I do not think they will be quiet about it. I'm thinking that Levian is going to use that opportunity to literally screw my sister into the dirt."
Lyra sounded quite annoyed with the situation. After this morning, he could imagine that Lyra was feeling very left out.
As fun as it was for the dragons to plan sex in his apartment, he had one more rule. Feeling that Levian and Kira would go back and forth like that for a while, Eon interrupted, “Fourth rule! We need to keep things quiet in the apartment. I don't think anyone will mind if there is noise occasionally, but if you all get roaring and rowdy constantly, they will call someone about it. I may be accepting and willing to understand, but other humans probably would not. There are plenty of legends and myths about dragons here and most of them do not end well for the dragon."
The dragon's looked at each other like they had just realized that the other humans could hear them. Levian looked at Eon and said something, but Eon wasn't listening. The pain in his shoulder was flaring up and the scratches along his back were burning more than they had before. Everything went quiet for a moment, all the sound vanishing from Eon's perception, then it was back.
“...ou okay? Eon?"
All four dragons were looking at him with concern. Eon looked at them in turn, “I'm sorry, I zoned out there for a moment. Did you say something?"
Skree was suddenly much closer, the wyvern running his wings along Eon's forehead, “you must have really zoned out there. We were talking to you for at least five minutes! Do you normally have such a hot head? You're burning up!"
Eon pushed the Wyvern away a little, running a hand along his forehead. Skree was right, he was hot to the touch. His whole body ached, his arms sore. His earlier play time with Kira had done him no favors. His legs were sore, he still couldn't feel his crotch, and his shoulder was throbbing from where Lyra had bit him. He used that as an excuse to get up from the table and move to the kitchen where he had painkillers and a gauze bandage. He was very aware that the dragons were watching him intently, quietly. It was a change that Eon didn't like.
Eon made it to the kitchen before his legs gave out, the human collapsing to the ground.Levian was there instantly, nuzzling at Eon's head with concern. Kira and Lyra stayed back, watching from the table. Skree had moved to the kitchen, turning on the sink and using his wings to splash water onto Eon.
Eon couldn't move, nor could he speak. His body just…stopped. He lay there, his vision blurring and then focusing. He was burning up, the water Skree splashing onto him helping keep him cool. He needed ice. He needed some headache medicine and he needed to clean and bandage his wounds…but he couldn't get it. After a moment, Eon passed out, slipping into a dark void.
When he came too he felt fur and scales on both sides of his body and a large wing draped over him. His face was cold and his nose was numb. He moved a little, the very motion making him grunt in pain. The dragon's instantly moved off him, Levian removing his wing and letting Eon see what he was laying on.
A bag of frozen peas had slipped under his head. One of the dragons had thought to open the freezer and grab the peas. How…how did they know to do that? Eon had never opened the freezer around them.
Levian's strong claws gripped him by the shoulder and lifted him so that eon could sit up. The motion made his head spin and Eon shut his eyes. After a few moments of sickening motion, Eon felt his back against the cabinets and the cool wood felt wonderful against his back. He opened his eyes to see all four of the dragon's in the kitchen, each of them looking at him in various degrees of concern. It annoyed him more than anything.
“what is going on? Why do you all look so worried?"
Skree spoke before anyone else could, “We thought you died! You just fell to the ground and stopped moving. You were burning up and…and…"
Levian gave Skree a lick, calming the Wyvern a little. Kira and Lyra looked like they were about to break down and start wailing and Eon could see some serious guilt in Kira's eyes. Was this because of the bond? He had felt drained after Skree and he had felt fatigued after bonding with Lyra. Was it because he had bonded with both dragons so soon? He had felt fine after his bond with Lyra, why did Kira's bond have to drain so much?
Eon moved his hand. It felt like moving a brick of lead under an ocean, but he managed to place his hand on the worried wyvern, giving Skree a head rub. He was already feeling a little better, if quite sluggish. He looked at Levian, “How long was I out?"
Levian looked like he did not want to say, but Eon held his gaze. Levian let out a sigh, “Four hours. You did not move or speak for four hours. You even stopped breathing a few times." Levian shot a glance at Kira, the red dragon moving her wings to cover her face. Eon could tell that Levian was mad at her, but there was nothing Levian could do that could make things much worse.
Lyra looked unsure of what to do. The furred dragon just looked from Eon to Levian, then to her sister. Lyra was shaking and Eon could have sworn that he heard a whimper from Kira. It was partially their fault, but no one had really been thinking clearly this morning. Eon was awake at least; it could have been much worse. Eon didn't have much to say to Kira or Lyra that would help, but Levian came to the rescue.
“Kira, Lyra, let's give him some space. He is awake now and it wasn't your fault. He will be fine. Come with me to the table, we can have the rest of the meat Eon had in the cold box. A good meal will help."
The two sisters nodded, moving out of the kitchen in slow steps. Levian turned and fumbled with the fridge for a second, his claws eventually grasping the handle. He opened the fridge and darted his head in quickly. He pulled out the pork chops Eon had bought a week ago and then closed the door. He gave Eon a quick and concerned look, then moved back to the table room.
That left Eon alone with Skree.
Eon shifted slowly, moving to a more comfortable position. He held out his arm for Skree to jump too, but the Swiftwing just stood there. After a moment, Eon put his arm down, “so…I may need your help with something."
Skree nodded, moving a little closer. Skree was acting odd. Normally the wyvern was more chipper than this. Sure, Eon just had a near death experience, but he was feeling much better already. He just didn't want to risk standing up. Eon pointed to the drawer beside the fridge, “in that drawer, there is a plastic tube. It is yellow and has a hard lid. It says 'Neosporin' on it. Can you get it for me."
Skree waited for a moment, then he nodded. With a flap of his wings, Skree jumped to the counter and used his claws to open the drawer. After rummaging through the drawer for a bit, Skree found the tube and tossed it to Eon.
Eon reached for it, grasping it in his fingers. This was more difficult that Eon could have ever imagined, his body still refusing to listen to his brain. Skree simply watched, the wyvern standing still. Eon noticed.
Skree had been acting differently ever since he yelled at Levian. Sure, that was scary, but Skree had been the first one to bond with him and the wyvern had been more mischievous. Skree was acting sullen and moody now. Eon managed to get some Neosporin on his fingers and dragged his hand up to his shoulder. His shirt was in the way. He looked up at Skree, but the Wyvern was giving him a blank stare. Something was wrong with him.
“Skree…are you okay?"
The wyvern gave him a hard look, then shook his head. He didn't say anything. Eon held out his arm again for Skree to come closer. Skree simply stood there. Eon gave up. Skree didn't want to help, so Eon would just have to do it himself.
First he had to remove his shirt. With a herculean effort, Eon managed to grab his shirt and pull the collar to the side, making it easier for his fingers to reach the bitten shoulder. He hissed as he felt the Neosporin touch his open wounds, the burning feeling making his leg twitch in reflex. It felt good to feel pain, the sensation reminding his body that it was alive.
Skree landed near Eon, coming closer. After a moment of hesitation, Skree jumped onto Eon's leg. He came close to Eon and looked at where the bite was, then jumped on to Eon's shoulder. He was careful not to grip too tight and he used a claw to hold the shirt open for Eon. Eon sighed, glad to let his weary arm fall back to his side. Skree said nothing, but he did not need to just yet. Eon was busy with something else.
“you…you almost…died. You almost died because of us."
Eon looked up at Skree, the wyvern looking at him. Skree looked sad and worried, but he was talking, “I'm…sorry. When you shoved Levian, you reminded me of someone I would rather forget. You are not them and I'm sorry for being scared."
Eon just shrugged, the motion making his wince. He was feeling better by the second, mostly because talking with Skree was distracting him, “hey, you have a past, and it sounds like an interesting one. All four of you are strange to me and I have no idea what your world is like."
Skree shook his head, “this world is kinder to us. We need to take off your shirt so we can get to the claw marks on your back."
Eon raised his arm and Skree grabbed onto his shirt. With some coordinated flapping, tugging, and Eon moving his arm, they managed to get his shirt off. The open air made Eon shiver. He wasn't able to reach his back, so he showed Skree how to get the Neosporin out of the tube. Skree didn't like the smell of the stuff, but he took it anyway.
Moving behind Eon, Skree put some of the foul-smelling magic goo on the top of his claws. With the smooth side only, Skree pressed the Neosporin onto the open wounds. Eon let out a hiss of pain. Skree jerked back, flapping his wings a few times to move away, “Sorry! I…"
Eon shook his head, silencing the concerned wyvern, “don't worry, it is supposed to hurt."
Eon could feel Skree's confusion. Still, after a moment, Skree started to rub the Neosporin on his cuts again. Eon tensed up, but he didn't make a noise. There was a long time of silence, Skree carefully cleaning Eon's wounds.
The burning sensation from the Neosporin was a good feeling. The pain made Eon think, it woke him up. There were several things that needed to be done for the dragons to live here in safety. First, he had to find a way to feed them. He assumed that they could simply live off his energy but he had a feeling that would be a bad idea, especially if he bonded with Levian in his current state. He needed to find what they liked and a good way to get it without drawing too much attention. Second, he needed to find a large space the dragons could use to move and stretch. Eon's apartment was fine for a single normal person and even he found it small. Skree could probably live in comfort, Lyra and Kira could lounge in various places, but Levian took up almost half the space in most rooms except the living room. There was no way it was healthy for all five of them to stay in this one place forever. Lastly, he needed to figure out how to make the bond less intense. Bonding with Skree had been easy, Lyra and Kira almost killed him…yet again, Levian was just too much dragon for this world. It could take him a day or two to recover enough to help the hybrid, and after he bonded with the big dragon there was no telling how long Eon would be out.
The most annoying thing was that Eon had a feeling the Levian knew this too. Eon didn't know anything about the dragon, but it must be torture for Levian. The hybrid was in a world that he didn't belong, his death would mean he was forgotten, and the only hope he had right now was a lone human who was already reaching his limit. Levian was handling it well, but Eon would not be surprised if the Hybrid was holding back some intense emotion. How would it feel, knowing that if you died in this place that you would cease to exist. Did the dragons have an afterlife?
Eon felt something smoother than Skree's talons moving along his back. After a few more passes, Eon realized that it wasn't burning either, but it was wet with something. “Skree? What are you doing back there?"
There was a pause, then Skree chirped up, “I ran out of the nasty stuff, so I'm cleaning your wounds." Eon felt Skree nuzzle his shoulder, then he felt Skree lick along his cut. Honestly, it didn't feel too bad, but Eon worried that it might make things worse.
“Skree, I have more Neosporin. We can…"
“No!"
Eon was surprised, turning to look at the wyvern the best he could. Skree had been standing on a small box that Eon had left there a while ago, probably one of the things he had forgotten to throw away. The tube of Neosporin was on the ground, but Eon could see that it was not empty. Skree was standing there, his wings held tight to his body and he was shuffling on his feet. The wyvern looked like he was fighting back tears. Somehow it was comforting to know that dragons could cry.
“That tube is full of poison! I can smell it and it hurts you when it touches you!" Skree moved his wing to the side and Eon saw that Skree had bit into his wing arm a little, just enough to make a cut. There was the glisten of some Neosporin there and Skree was obviously not happy about it.
“Skree, did you do that to yourself?"
Skree nodded, glaring daggers at the tube of medicine, “that stuff feels like fire in your blood. How could that be good for you? Your wounds are not closing so I know it doesn't work like a healing salve. You aren't using any magic or human gadget, so all I'm doing is hurting you!"
Eon heard the couch creaking. Someone was coming to check, and Eon had a suspicion it was Levian. Sure enough, the hybrid's large head came into view, looking at what they were doing. Sitting on the ground, Levian somehow looked even bigger, “what is going on? Skree…are you okay?"
Skree shook his head, “Eon is making me poison him!"
There was a momentary flash of light in Levian's eyes, that same purple light form before, but it vanished quickly. Levian also looked confused, looking at Eon with concern, “do you use poison as medicine here? We have never heard tales of a poison medicine. Your wounds aren't closing, so it isn't like a…"
“..Healing Salve, yes, Skree already said that. Don't you have medicine in your world?"
Skree took this opportunity to go back to licking Eon's cuts. Eon didn't necessarily like the wyvern licking him but wasn't hurting him. The dragons had lived this long, maybe Skree had something in his saliva that cleaned wounds of microbes and bacteria. Maybe the wyvern just liked the taste of his dried blood…Eon tried not to think about it. The only thing that mattered to Eon was that Skree was calming down. Eon was able to move better now and he could use the Neosporin on himself later if he really wanted to.
Levian lay on the ground, his head still above Eon even while the dragon was lounging. Levian reached over and used a claw to scoop up the Neosporin tube and he took a sniff. He let out a growl and threw it into the living room, the tube hitting something with a thud. “your medicine went bad."
The more Eon thought of it, the more he realized the dragons were probably right. It did seem silly for him to use something that burned on a wound and had no immediate results, especially if it smelled like something toxic to them. From all the details eon had heard about their world, it sounded like they lived in a fantasy world with magic and things that would make no sense to Eon. He did not even know if they had bacteria or viruses there, much less if the dragons would have been able to learn about them. Science seemed to be a human thing. Well, it was a good thing Eon had taken advanced biology in high school…though that had been a few years ago.
“Levian, could you like me to tell you and Skree why I used that?"
“Yes." Both dragons said, echoing each other. They looked at one another and Eon chuckled. He was not much of a teacher, but he could hopefully get the basics.
“okay. Umm…what is the smallest thing you can think of?"
Levian was about to say something, but Skree jumped in first, “Ants! They are tiny and annoying…but they do taste good as long as you don't find the fiery and spicy ones."
Levian let out a little grumble, but he did not say anything. Eon assumed Levian was going to say the same thing, minus eating them. Eon doubted Levian ate insects…though if he did there was an easy food solution.
Eon nodded at Skree's answer, “yes, ants are small and tiny. There can be thousands of them in small places. Would you believe me if I told you there was something even smaller?"
Levian let out a snort, “sand is smaller. Grains of sand get everywhere. Between your claws, in my feathers, between your scales…and it itches sometimes. But if you melt sand, you get glass. Do you know the secrets of glass too, Eon?"
Levian looked excited by this prospect, moving closer and his foreclaws were lightly scratching at the ground. Eon could not see Levian's tail, but he could tell it was swaying. Good to know Levian liked glass. Eon would have to google that and see if he could find a way to explain it to Levian.
“sand is a good example, but what if I told you there was something even smaller?"
There was a laugh from above. Eon looked up to see Lyra and Kira on the counter above him. Lyra was giggling and Kira rolled her eyes, “there is nothing smaller than sand. If you crush anything enough, it becomes sand, or like sand. Or a soup. Some plants make good soups."
Skree was back to licking his wounds, working on the last cut. Eon noticed that Kira was trying hard not to glance at his back. It was a good time for a distraction, so Eon was going to give them something to think about. It was exciting, knowing he was going to tell these dragons something that would blow their minds.
“There is something even smaller than sand. We call them microorganisms."
Kira laughed, smiling politely at Eon. Levian shot her a look, wanting to hear more. Eon needed a way to relate the information to something they knew. He didn't have his phone with him, he probably left that in his car…all of which he would have to explain to the dragons. It was going to be a long couple of days if Eon had to relate common knowledge to them all the time.
“imagine the ants, but they are smaller than sand. Imagine that there are thousands of them, living in the air and on everything."
Lyra looked confused, “ants living in the air? how is that possible?"
Eon didn't know how bacteria living was possible…but he did have an answer on how they were in the air, “because they are lighter than air. they are like…tiny bubbles. Tiny living things so small that you can't see them."
Levian snorted, “we have much better vision than you humans. If something was living in the air, we would see it."
“umm…not everything. Do you guys ever get sick? Like you eat something that was a little bad and your stomach hurts, or you run a fever and can move without your head hurting?"
Levian nodded viciously, “of course. That happens if you claim a beast that has died on the earth. If you eat a dead thing, its spirit fights you in your belly because you denied it a resting place in the ground. Corpse feeding dragons are always sick and feeling bad. You can always tell who ate a dead thing because their breath smells like death."
Huh…so dragons do have a religion to explain things. well, maybe not religion, just spoken rules. This was good, since Eon could tie something into this little rule. It was fun, trying to tell them human sciences with a dragon's view.
Skree chuckled at Levian's words, moving out from behind Eon. He must have been done. Eon leaned back against the counter, keeping his back from Kira's gaze. She was guilty, but he did not want her to feel bad. Skree jumped up onto Eon's shoulder, getting comfortable. Feeling Skree's tail drape over his shoulder made Eon feel much better, like things were back to normal for the dragons.
Eon held out his hand and all the dragons looked at it. They all looked like Eon was about to make a fireball in his hand or make something amazing happen.
“the spirits that fight when you eat something that has been dead are these tiny things. The same microorganisms we have here on earth. They feed on the dead thing, breaking it down into dirt. They are smaller than the hairs on my head and they live on every inch of me and you."
The dragons all recoiled from this idea, Skree jumping up to the cabinet and Levian moving away. Eon looked at them and saw the concern on their faces. It was like Eon had just talked to a ghost in front of them. Maybe he needed to be more clear.
“so, some of these little spirits are good, some are bad. When you get sick, it is because your good spirits are fighting against the bad ones. The good spirits like it when you feel good and are healthy because they live with you. The bad spirits don't care and try to make as many of themselves as they can, which can hurt you. Your body knows this and helps the good spirits without you even thinking about it. When you are sick, you feel tired and want to rest. Your body is giving that energy to the good spirits, so they can win."
The dragons came closer to him, Skree jumping onto his shoulder. Levian scooted closer again and Lyra and Kira jumped from the cabinet to lay in front of him. All four of them were staring at him like he was revealing the mystery of the universe to them. In a way, he was. Eon had no idea what kind of an impact his words were having on the dragons.
Levian had a question and he nudged Eon for his attention, “these spirits, they are kind of like a bond, right? Can you tell them what to do?"
Eon shook his head, “no, they live in their own world. Uhh…imagine that you are a planet and all the spirits are like all the humans and animals."
Levian blinked at Eon. Skree nudged Eon's arm, “what is a planet?"
Oh, they were not ready to learn about the planets and stars…
“umm…like the whole world. Imagine your body is the whole world to these spirits. They live on you and in you. They make sure you are fine and they get to live. The bad spirits come from out of the world and try to take it over, tearing it up and killing the good spirits. Your body even has its own little...uhh…army! yes, the army that it uses to help the good spirits. Here, we have books that have all this knowledge and we have people who spend their entire lives studying these tiny spirits."
Levian chuckled, shaking his head, “you humans have an interesting way of looking at the spirits. Of course, you do have lightning in a glass bottle to make light for you, so you humans may be onto something. But what does that have to do with the poison tube? Why use it if it hurts and makes the spirits mad?"
Eon thought for a moment, then he had a way to say it, “our skin is like your scales and fur. It helps keep the bad spirits out like a wall. That bad spirits cannot get in and we can wash them off with water and soap. When we get cut or our skin is torn, the bad spirits can get through the wall. The poison tube was made to kill all the spirits, good and bad. That is because there are a bunch of evil spirits that live in the air and they swarm in like an invading army. So we use the poison tube to kill everything and then we cover the wounds with clean cloth and bandages to keep too many bad spirits from getting in. That way there is no big war, only a few small battles and we don't need to stop to let the spirits fight."
Levian looked pleased at this idea, “do you think the spirits have heroes? Like spirits that have lived through countless battles and tell tales of conquest to the younger spirits?"
Eon had no idea. He didn't know much about the immune system other than the basics, but the idea made sense. “I think there is something like that. Our bodies remember disease and sickness that we have had before and we get better quicker, so perhaps there are older spirits talking to the younger ones, like a general in an army."
Levian held his claw up and looked at it intently. It was like he was trying to see the immune cells in his blood, the 'spirits' that Eon had told him about. “thank you, little spirits."
Eon chuckled, shaking his head, “they can't hear you. Just keep them happy by staying healthy."
“so…are we bad spirits, eon?"
Eon turned to look at Lyra. The furred dragon had a sullen look about her, her eyes avoiding his. Her question was like a ripple, once she said it the other dragons grew quiet. Even Levian's excitement was curbed a little, the hybrid going quiet. Eon really hated seeing the dragons moody.
“well, that depends. Do you want to take the energy from my body with no other reason than to keep living, or do you care about me? When we first met, you would have been bad spirits, but we have known each other for a day and you all panicked when I passed out. You all don't like humans, Kira made that much easy to figure out. Skree even said that this world was kinder to you and this world is trying to erase you from existence! I would guess that the humans in your world are a lot worse than I can imagine, so I shouldn't expect you to know how to act around me."
Eon reached forward and grabbed the bag of peas off the floor. They had thawed now and would probably need to be either cooked and eaten or thrown out soon. He held the bag in his hands where the dragons could see, “Bad spirits wouldn't get me a pillow of peas. Besides, I have my own reasons for helping you."
Levian gave Eon a close look and Skree shuffled his wings a little, Kira and Lyra looked between the other two dragons. Knowing what he did about the dragons and that they were probably not treated well back home, Eon knew he had to rephrase that. He moved slowly, pressing his hands against the ground, slowly standing.
Standing was a bad idea. He felt dizzy and his legs were still just numb enough to make him stumble. Levian caught him, leaning close enough that the human fell on him. Lyra and Kira also came close, leaning against his legs as they tried to help him stay steady. Eon laughed, “ahaha…looks like Kira managed to fuck my legs away."
Kira froze, her scales rattling in embarrassment. Levian let out a chuckle, “so, dragon fucker, what was so important that you needed to stand and fall on me?"
“Well, in my room I have a folder of some old doodles I used to do in my high school years. You all would like them."
With Levian as support, Eon started to walk to his room. Skree stayed on Eon's shoulders, his tail wrapped around Eon's shoulder tightly. Skree did not want to leave. Lyra and Kira stayed right behind Eon. When he stumbled, they would dart forward and try to help him keep his footing. The dragons would not let him fall and Eon took comfort in that. He knew he was right…even if they were not the kind of dragons he had dreamed of all those years ago.
After a few moments of Eon stumbling into the room, He sat on the bed and caught his breath. He was feeling much better now. He imagined this was what a computer felt like after being reset, everything waking up one part at a time till the system was running. Heh…the irony.
Eon pointed to the top drawer of his dresser, “Everything in there. Skree, Levian may need your help getting the things out."
Levian used his maw to open the drawer and Skree hovered over the contents. He landed on the dresser and used his claws to scoop out a few small objects. He grabbed a few more in his maw and then hopped down to the ground. He dropped them to the ground, then he went back for a few more. Once he had several dozen of the small objects on the ground, he started to gently pull out an old cheap school spiral notebook. Skree was not able to lift it, but Levian grabbed it in his maw and handed it to Eon.
Eon took it and then moved from the bed to the floor, his body back to working as it should. He took a moment to rearrange the little objects, the remaining collection of Eon's figurines. When he was done, the four dragons were looking at little plastic versions of various dragons. There were cartoon looking dragons, realistic looking figures, and any mix between anime and fantastic. Eon already had a small army of plastic dragons, reminders from his childhood.
“I used to collect every little dragon I could find. When I was a kid, Dragons were the coolest thing I had ever seen. They were always big, strong and I fell in love with them. They were always the bad guys until I read a book that someone wrote. In this book, the dragons were trying to find a way to live in peace and hide from the humans. There was one character that had made it his life's work to find and document the magical creatures that lived in their world."
Eon opened the spiral notebook, showing off several crude sketches and diagrams. The more he turned the pages, the easier it was to see wings, claws, horns…then about halfway though was a detailed sketch of a dragon. Then there was another…and another, then there were landscapes and backgrounds with dragons. By the time Eon had reached the back of the notebook, the sketches had taken on a near photo realistic quality. Eon had drawn towns with people and dragons flying above. There was a great mountain with a lightning storm, a singular dragon on the peak roaring with wings spread wide. There was a castle, ruled by dragons with happy human servants. Eon drew several dozens of various wyverns, some even looking eerily close to Skree.
The dragons looked along these with wide eyes and Eon chuckled as he looked at his old dreams. “I used to think dragons were real to the point I could almost see them, always hiding behind trees and clouds, just out of my sight. A lot of people I knew thought dragons were monsters, but I always wanted to meet one. If it could talk, then I could learn. If it ate me, then that was that. It was my dream to find one, talk with one."
Eon let out a sigh, running his hand along the remains of the one pager that had been torn out. That had been his prized drawing, his favorite dragon…but he had just been a child. He was not the one that made the decisions then. Someone else had decided he did not need this dream. “Of course, to quote my esteemed parents 'No dream in a fantasy will get you anywhere'. They were right of course, so I stopped drawing and moved onto learning something more useful, like engineering and computer maintenance."
Eon gestured toward the figurines, “heh…Even after having that dream crushed and another dream set on me, I still couldn't get rid of them. It was like throwing away a part of me."
Eon stretched his arms, letting out a groan as he leaned to the side, popping his back, “look at me now. I have four real dragons! And they didn't eat me…though one of them did try."
Eon gave Kira a wink and the red dragon grinned at him. He was glad she wasn't looking away anymore. He went back to looking in his sketchbook. He used to have several of these. This was the only one he had been able to salvage and hide. Eon let the memories of a better past wash over him. It was a time where it was okay to just have fun. There was no need to plan, no need to worry, it was just him, the other children, and the camp. A camp where they could be alone, hidden from the oppressive city world. A place they could be children.
“looking at this brings me back. It was such a simpler time when all I had to do was pass classes, draw dragons, and then summer would come and we could…Camp! The Camp!"
Eon jumped up, then slumped a little when he moved too quickly. He was excited again because he just had a good idea. He knew where they could go that would be safer than the apartment, at least for a while. The dragons moved out of his way, Skree quickly moving the figurines out of the way. Eon grabbed his bag and started to look for his laptop. He did still have school to work on and he had a feeling that visiting the old camp would be a nice change of location…that and the dragons could move around there! It was secluded, hidden in the woods, and it was abandoned. No one went there because of the 'curse' that was there, but Eon had four dragons. No curse could stop that.
Looking back after grabbing his computer, Eon realized there was a small problem, “so…we might need to get creative if I'm going to get you all into my car."
Levian tilted his head with curiosity, “what is a car?"
Eon simply smiled. Levian had a feeling he was not going to like this 'car' thing.
Hope you all enjoyed. Thank you again Dragoonman10 for keeping the grammer in check and the words flowing smoothly. These massive chapters would be much harder to read without your help.
