Hyruu yawned as a ray of sunlight hit his face. The grey dragon let out an annoyed growl... and dug his head under his pillow. A bowl that seemed to never contain enough food for the dragon, but every time he was asking for more he was told he was going to be fat if he continued like this. A shelf was hosting a few toys, ranging from those designed to be chewed to those thrown in the air for the dragon to snatch in-flight. A large door was hiding a toilet specially adapted for dragons - lower, and larger - as well as a shower.

The dragon rolled on his side and stretched his paws, not feeling like getting up yet. He was still a rather young specimen, having barely reached adulthood. On all four, he was a bit less than two meters high. His grey scales were contrasting with his golden horns and dorsal spikes. Those were running from the top of the head down to the end of the tail, spaced enough for someone to sit between two of them. The tail was ending in a spaded golden tip. Vanessa explained.

"Oh really? That would be really nice." the dragon replied, gaining a smile.

"Yes, I'm sure we'll find someone to spend some time with. But in the meantime, remember that your hormones are acting up. It may occult your thoughts, so if you ever feel like having a stupid idea, try to take a deep breath and think clearly." Vanessa continued.

The grey dragon raised an interrogative eyebrow.

"A stupid idea? What do you mean?" he asked, visibly confused.

"Erm, well... I... I don't really know how to explain it. But just know that some dragons might play with your feelings, and use the fact you want to mate with them to make you do things you shouldn't." the girl answered, unsure of how to really explain it.

Visibly her answer didn't help Hyruu understand what the problem was. The dragon just blinked a few times, confused. Vanessa let our a sight, continuing to scratch the dragon's head.

"You know what forget it. I think you'll understand that by yourself. Anyway, breakfast is ready so come as soon as you're ready!"

The mention of the word "breakfast" made Hyruu suddenly forget about all his problems. A wide grin appeared on his face as he stood up instantly... only remembering why he still was laying after. "Because it would be bad for you! You'd get fat and be forced to go on a diet." Vanessa replied with a smile.

His maw snapped as a second slice of bacon entered his range.

"Happy now?" Vanessa smiled at him.

Hyruu seemed to hesitate for a second.

"I'd be happier with a third piece..." he replied.

"No chance." the girl answered, setting the plate in front of her.

The grey dragon let out a sigh.

"Well, that was worth trying." he simply said before resuming his meal.

Hyruu got surprised as something suddenly landed on his nose, falling into the bowl afterwards. Another piece of bacon.

"Gotcha! You didn't catch that one!" Vanessa chuckled.

The dragon feigned to be offended, but the third piece of bacon nonetheless got eaten pretty swiftly.

Soon enough the two finished their breakfast, Hyruu being the first to finish. As soon as the girl announced she was finished, though, he made a point to clean the table. And by cleaning, he meant "eating whatever had not been eaten yet". If there was one positive point at having a dragon, it was that "leftovers" was a term that wasn't used anymore.

"Let's go outside then, shall we?" Vanessa suggested.

Hyruu nodded and followed the human outside. There, Vanessa put a hand on Hyruu's flank and reached one of his dorsal spikes. The dragon lowered his body as Vanessa jumped on him, sitting between two of the spikes at the base of his neck.

"So, where to today?" she asked.

Hyruu looked at the sky, seeming to hesitate for a few seconds.

"Hmm, the sun is hot, there's not much wind and it should remain so... Let's go to the lake." Hyruu decided.

If there was one thing Vanessa had learned from Hyruu, it was that if you wanted to enjoy a nice day, letting a dragon decide the spot was always a good choice. Hyruu always decided the perfect spot based on the sun and the way clouds were moving, estimating the weather with a surprising accuracy. The human hugged the dragon's neck, being ready for the ride. As soon as Hyruu felt the contact he started to trot away toward the forest.

Getting to the lake took a few minutes at that rhythm. Hyruu stopped on one of the pebble beaches that were around the lake, lowering his body again to let Vanessa hop down.
