Peachy Keen
"It's summer, the height of peach season, and Meadow the harvest mouse indulges her mate Fib's love of soft, juicy fruits, while also trying to keep the peace with her rat friend Petra."
Another one of my regular pairs, Meadow and Fib. Catching up with them in my usual slice-of-life fashion.
"Saw your bosom buddy on the news this morning."
Meadow blinked. "My who?"
"Your big-titted capy friend," Petra said, flicking on the office lights. The plain brown rat then went to the central air controls, turning the cooling unit back on. It was turned off overnight to save on energy costs.
"Daisy?" The golden-furred harvest mouse sat at her receptionist desk, stashing her purse in the bottom right drawer. Her whiskers twitched. "I really don't think that's what she wants to be known for ... "
"I'm not knockin' 'er knockers," the brown rat insisted, looking down at her own body. She spread her arms. "People would probably look at me more if I weren't so flat-chested."
"You're fine," the mouse insisted, logging into her computer.
"That's high praise, coming from you. Hold up! I gotta mark the moment in my life journal." Petra pretended to write on something. "Meadow said ... 'you're fine'."
The mouse tried to ignore her (though it wasn't easy), pulling up the folder with today's dental appointment files. A full slate of appointments, today. The receptionists arrived half an hour before the office opened for business (at 8-o'clock). The hygienists and dentists would start to filter in at quarter til.
"She seems like a hippie," Petra continued, sitting on the end of her own desk and picking up a pen. She clicked the top of it. Click-clack. Click-clack. "Capybaras give off major stoner vibes, you have to admit."
"She's a very sweet person," Meadow defended.
Click-clack.
The capybara was also her neighbor. Meadow and Fib (her mate) lived in a private housing area next to Daisy and Rico, a capybara/chipmunk pair. Daisy was a horticulturalist who did informational 'how to' radio and TV spots on the side, while Rico was a producer at a local radio station (which is how they'd met).
"I wouldn't know," Petra eventually said, lowering into her swivel her swivel chair. "You won't let me meet her."
Click-clack.
"That's not true."
"I think you're embarrassed. A grungy ol' rat who shoots from the hip. You don't want to show me off to your curvy garden goddess. Bet she invites you over for tea, doesn't she? And makes you giggle?"
Meadow hesitated before admitting, "Maybe." She immediately countered with, "But I haven't met many of your other friends! Heck, I've only met half of your mates." Petra was poly and in long-term relationships with at least four others.
"You should get high with her," Petra suggested, shifting the focus off herself. A tactic Meadow was very familiar with.
Meadow put her paws in her lap, stating calmly, "I've never been high."
"Color me shocked."
Click-
Meadow's prehensile tail zipped out and captured the pen.
"Damn. Breakin' out the snake-tail action."
Meadow put the pen in a pen holder next to her computer. "You can have it back when you behave."
The rat smirked. "How are we defining 'behave'?"
"Not making me feel bad for making new friends, for a start."
The rat looked unimpressed. She swiveled to face her computer. "I mean, if you want to dump me, it's not the worst thing going on."
"I never said I wanted to du--"
"Supreme Court just said females in heat basically have no rights. Males can just jump on us and claim the heat drove them crazy. Elections are gerrymandered and rigged. That's not even getting into climate change."
"You need to turn off the news for a while ... "
The rat looked over at the mouse. "It doesn't go away just because you don't acknowledge it."
Meadow looked back. "I know that."
"So what are we gonna do about it?"
"I don't ... I just don't know!" the mouse managed, clearly frazzled. "But life doesn't completely suck."
"For you."
"I spent years being alone and insecure. I finally have a mate, a nice home, and people around me who care about me. Why can't I enjoy that? You have all that, too, by the way. Why are you so jealous of me all of a sudden?"
"Who said anything about jealousy?"
"No one. But you don't have to. You pride yourself on knowing me better than myself, but it goes both ways. I know what you're going to say before you say it."
"Then why are you asking me questions?"
The mouse's ears were getting hot, and not in the erogenous way. She turned back to her computer.
Petra pulled out a wood-chew and began to gnaw on it.
Gnaw-gnaw-gnaw.
Pause.
Gnaw-gnaw-gnaw.
Meadow sighed.
"She's making me feel like I've done something wrong, but I don't think I have!"
"It's okay, Butterscotch," Fib soothed.
"I want to help her, but ... I just feel like I'm running into a brick wall," Meadow continued.
It was later that evening, and the two mice were having dinner at their kitchen table.
"She probably misses you," Fib said. "But she's not admitting it because she wants you to say you miss her, too. You know rats. They have trust issues. They won't put themselves out there unless they're certain they won't be left hanging."
Meadow poked at her salad. "Yeah ... but I mean ... " She put a forkful in her muzzle and chewed. "Like, I do miss her, but it's not like we're both single and have nothing going on. When I first met her, I had nothing and nobody, so of course I could spend more time with her. But now?" She swallowed. "And Daisy is our neighbor. She's literally right here. And she's so happy and warm and ... well ... supportive." Petra couldn't be described with any of those terms. "Petra has, like ... four mates. She's not financially hurting. I don't know why she's always so cynical."
"Probably had a rough upbringing. What about her family? They still around?"
"I don't know. She never says. Just tells me that it's 'rats against the world'." Meadow poked at her salad again. "Why shouldn't I like Daisy more? She's nicer to me."
"You sure you want my verdict?" Fib said, buckteeth biting into a peach. Juice instantly dribbled down his whiskers and chin, which he dabbed up with a tablecloth. "I'm kinda biased. Don't think Petra has ever liked me."
"Even though she takes credit for getting us together," Meadow added. "I think she liked you before you 'took me away' from her."
"Not everything is a contest," Fib said.
"I know that. She doesn't know that." Meadow took a few deep breaths. She'd clashed with the rat before, but this time? She shook her head, changing the subject. "Daisy was on the news this morning?"
"Yup, she's doing great! Every Friday, now. One segment per hour ... "
"Ooh! What are those?" Marlowe the red panda asked. Normally assigned to culinary spots, he was serving as Daisy's co-partner during her gardening segments. His red velvet fur shone boldly in the early morning sun.
"Now, here, we have lilies," the curvy, milk chocolate capybara said, walking further up the path and gesturing to the side. The camera followed her. They were at a park in midtown that Daisy had landscaped for.
Just outside the frame, Marlowe said, "Colorful!"
"They caught your eye, didn't they? Not just colorful but riotous."
"Heh."
"I do love adjectives," the capybara said, holding up a finger. "But what do I love about lilies?"
"What?"
"Everything! They're visually striking, fragrant as perfume, and they're perennials."
"Now, for us laymen, what's the difference between a perennial and an annual?" Marlowe asked.
"A perennial means the plant will live and bloom again for years to come. An annual won't survive the winter and the seeds will need to be replanted."
"Ah, I see."
"Lilies are bulbed flowers, and like most bulbs need to be planted outside the summer window. Spring or fall. But you can transplant fully grown flowers if you're very careful with them."
Getting word from the studio in his earpiece, Marlow smiled toothily for the camera. "It seems that's all the time we have for today." Looking to the capybara, he asked, "What will you be going over next week, Daisy?"
"The zany world of zinnias!"
"I need to ask her for pointers," Meadow said. "I haven't really planted anything since we moved in."
"Do you want to?" Fib asked.
"Maybe? Mm. Everyone's yard is so nice around here ... "
"This is our first summer in this house. No one expects it to look like the Hanging Gardens of Babylon."
"I'm a country mouse! Or I used to be. I should be able to make a yard look good. Maybe I'm too much a city mouse, now ... "
"I think you're great no matter what," Fib said.
She smiled. "You would say that."
"You think I have some ulterior motive?" He chuckled. "And, hey, I'm from rural Iowa, remember? I'm not a city mouse, even if I live and work as one. Us harvest mice will always be country at heart. Golden as ripened wheat! But, sometimes, a change of scenery can do you good. New people, new experiences."
Meadow nibbled on some baby carrots. "I'd still like to plant something out front, at least. No one sees the back but us. I don't want to ask Daisy for too much help, cause she's so nice she'll just end up doing it for me. I don't want to take advantage of her."
"I doubt anyone takes advantage of Daisy," Fib assured. "Capybaras are immovable objects. They do what they want, unbothered."
Meadow tilted her head. "That's true."
Fib suggested, "Maybe Petra can help you? Would make a good bonding experience."
"Petra? And flowers?" The mouse almost choked. She coughed a few times, taking a drink of water. "Think she's allergic to them. Not literally, but ... " The mouse trailed off. "We actually don't have much in common. Me and her. Except for working at the same place."
"Unlikely friendships can form in work environments. Look at me and Baxter."
"Are you friends, though?" she asked, of him and the otter, the morning sports anchor at Fib's station. Fib was the meteorologist.
"Well. No. But we're friend_ly_. For the most part ... but we used to hate each other!"
"Heh. Progress."
"Yup."
"I admit, he seems to have become more mature since he got with Kendra," Meadow said, of the desert cottontail rabbit (who was also Fib's boss).
Fib nodded, still working on that peach.
"I sometimes get irked at things Petra says, but ... I trust her. I know she'd do anything to protect me."
"And what would you do for her?"
The question caught Meadow off-guard. "I, uh ... um ... "
"Maybe you can do something for her."
"Like what?"
"Take her to a movie?"
"She'll choose a horror film ... " And Meadow spooked easily.
"I'm just trying to help." Fib didn't particularly care for Petra, of course, but if she and Meadow 'broke up' as friends? It would make Meadow's work life very awkward. She'd still have to work with the rat all week, every week. Fib wanted to make his mate's road as painless as possible.
"I know, I know." She rubbed at her cheeks, a mousey habit. "Thank you ... I'm really sorry for dumping all this on you. I haven't even asked you about your day yet ... "
"No need to apologize, Butterscotch. I'm here for you." Fib polished off the peach, flicking the stone onto a nearby plate. "Mmm ... "
Meadow giggled. "You went to town on that thing."
"What can I say?" The male harvest mouse licked his lips, giving her a certain look. "I like soft, juicy fruits."
Meadow blushed.
Lightning bugs filled the backyard, blinking like holiday lights set to a haywire timer.
How many were there?
Hundreds?
Thousands?
Meadow couldn't keep track.
Under dark, calm skies (encroaching cloud cover, slight chance of rain), the two golden mice were on their back porch. A wooden deck slightly raised off the grass, it was big enough for a table with an umbrella rising from the middle. Chairs. A grill (for vegetable kabobs, ears of sweet corn, and other non-meat items).
And a cushioned wicker sofa.
That's where Meadow was.
Half of her, at least.
Her upper half was still clothed, mostly upright but starting to slouch.
Her legs?
They were quite bare, not to mention fully spread.
And Fib?
He did like soft, juicy fruits. And he loved eating pussy.
Meadow had been with a string of predators before meeting Fib almost five years ago. They'd all had long, broad, or wily tongues. But she didn't remember them ever making her feel like this. Maybe it was because she truly loved Fib, and that made it that much better. Or maybe he was magically skilled with his muzzle.
It didn't matter.
So long as he didn't stop.
On his knees on the deck, Fib had his paws on her hips, pulling her to the very edge of the sofa, allowing his muzzle to tilt and press, to fully mesh with her sex. Kissing, sucking, nuzzling, slurping. It wasn't a quiet activity.
"F-f ... fib," Meadow whined, punctuating the lewd noises as his tongue swirled around and over her clit. "Oh!" Her paws went to his head-fur, fingers curling.
"Shhh," he went, pulling back to kiss her thighs. "Not so loud, Butterscotch. We're not in the countryside anymore." It was a calm summer night and houses in the neighborhood were bound to have their windows open, if everyone wasn't lounging outside like they were.
"Y-yeah," she panted.
"You okay?" he whispered, gently nosing her belly before idly drifting back to her loins. "I'm not overwhelming you, am I?"
"No. I just ... you make me feel so good ... "
"When you feel good, I feel good."
Meadow almost melted on the spot. "I feel like I don't deserve you."
Fib answered by eating her out again, with hungry abandon, her juices running, streaming hotly down his face. She was wetter than any peach he'd ever had.
Blushing intensely, Meadow reached for his ears. Mouse ears were very thin and delicate. And very erogenous.
Fib moaned lightly at the touch.
Meadow carefully pinched his ear-rim between her thumb and forefinger and ran her digits 'around the clock,' from one side to the other.
"Mmm." Another grateful moan from her mate, lips grazing her clit. The moan caused a vibration which transferred into her precious, sensitive bud.
Meadow's head angled back. "Ah ... ah ... "
Fib sucked on her clit for just a second, ever-so-briefly. He didn't want to over-do it. After the teasing, his muzzle dipped, tongue lapping, scooping between her petals. He managed to work it into the shallow end of her passage. He was putting in a lot of patient, diligent work, knowing she would reward him ... any moment now ... he could hear her breaths hitching ...
And, then, it happened.
Meadow was beside herself. She felt it coming, knew it was coming. Like a tidal wave approaching a shore. She braced herself, but in spite of her foreknowledge and preparation ... the pleasure completely swept her away. She cried out! Louder than she'd been the whole time. So much for following noise ordinances.
"Mm, mm," Fib grunted, lapping up the juices of her orgasm.
Meadow was practically shaking. "Oh, oh ... my ... g-gosh ... "
Fib's wet face rose into view, like a rising moon. The floodlights on the back of the house reflecting off his ears. His whiskers glistened, clear droplets weighing them down until they dripped away. "You're so fucking cute," he murmured.
Meadow submissively reached for him. "Fib ... "
The mouse nodded, exercising his dominance over her by pushing his shorts down to his knees and climbing onto the wicker sofa, cock stiffly swinging. Climbing atop of her, still in his t-shirt, the half-naked mouse lowered his body to hers, grinding, grinding, and finally slipping his throbbing erection into her wet, clenching passage.
"Ohh ... ah, yeah," he mumbled, immediately starting to thrust. Within seconds, he had his rhythm down, balls slapping.
Meadow huffed and puffed, arms around his neck, paws straying down his back. She bunched up his shirt. She wasn't able to pull it off, so she abandoned it and reached for his rump, groping it, feeling the motoring of his hips, the heat of his body in motion against hers, both of them working toward the same goal.
Fib was kissing, nibbling at her neck. "Ah, you ... you like being beneath me, baby?"
"Yes ... yes," she moaned lightly.
"Who's my Butterscotch? My golden girl?"
"Me!"
"Ah ... gah, ahh ... that's right ... " His humps were sharp, desperate, becoming erratic. He was barely hanging on. She was so wet and snug, so hot, so wonderful, so good! "Oh, fuck! Hah! Ahhhhh," he sighed, burying in his mate and pumping her with his seed.
Meadow could hear his grunts and groans in her ears. Could feel his loins surging, then pulsing. She swore she could feel him filling her. So full. Her heels dug into the backs of his legs, and she squeaked! Her pussy fluttered and clenched, a second climax. The world spun, and she had to close her eyes as pleasure flashed through her body like a firework.
"Mmm. Better than a hundred peaches." Fib slumped atop her, smiling lazily. "Heh ... hopefully no one heard that."
"Mm, what if they did?" Meadow replied. "They'll just know how much we love each other."
"I do love you." He touched his twitchy nose to hers. "More than I can ever say. That's why I have to show you like this."
"I love you, too," she breathed back. "And I never tire of being shown."
Their muzzles met in a sloppy kiss.
Tails entwined together like a double-helix.
And the lightning bugs kept flashing, brighter than before.
Later, after showering, they were watching TV on the living room couch. Fib in his boxer-briefs and Meadow bra-less but in her panties and one of his freebie news station t-shirts. When the program was over, they'd get some sleep. Meadow had her head in Fib's lap while he watched. She was texting on her phone. With Petra.
PETRA: yo
MEADOW: Hey.
PETRA: whazzup
MEADOW: Nothing, watching TV with Fib.
PETRA: why you always using correct punctuation weirdo
MEADOW: I'm rebellious.
PETRA: he do you yet
MEADOW: Wouldn't you like to know!
PETRA: that's a yes
MEADOW: *wink emoji*
PETRA: you used an emoji, that means it was mind-blowing,I had a threesome with June and Eagan, was solid
MEADOW: About earlier ... at work ...
PETRA: that was nothin
MEADOW: I thought you were mad at me!
PETRA: didn't say I wasn't, but it's cool
MEADOW: Okay?
PETRA: thing is, never been able to be as feminine as you, girly, rat-world doesn't allow it ... and I only attract hardasses, you've seen June, y'know what I mean
MEADOW: She's not that bad.
PETRA: nah, she's aces, but I see you and you're so soft and like a flower, feminine with a capital F, and I always wanted to ... y'know ... and now I can't, even if I ever had a chance, which I didn't ... just been driven home lately is all
MEADOW: You're still my friend, though. You keep me honest. And you help me make fun of rude patients.
PETRA: _yeah, patients suck _
MEADOW: Just stop being jealous of me ...
PETRA: K
MEADOW: So ... did you maybe want to go to a movie tomorrow?
PETRA: not seein' mushy stuff
MEADOW: I'll let you choose.
PETRA: *devil face emoji*
"Is this going to be scary?" Meadow asked as they left the lobby and entered the theater. "You know I don't like scary."
"Nah, it's not a gory 'jump scare' movie," Petra said, already shoveling popcorn into her muzzle. Extra butter.
"Oh, good."
"Yeah, it's just one of those soul-shaking psychological horrors, y'know?" the rat said, finding her assigned seat and plonking down in it.
Meadow's whiskers twitched, putting her ticket in her purse and sitting to Petra's left.
"Relax." Chew-chew-chomp. "It's a classic."
"It just came out," Meadow said.
"Instant future classic," Petra emphasized.
"Heh. You're just being silly."
"Rats don't do silly."
"I think they do," Meadow said, grabbing a pawful of popcorn. She ate one kernel at a time.
"So dainty. Nah, look, you gotta scoop it and cram as much in as you can."
"No, you ... oh, my gosh, stop it!" Meadow giggled, taking the popcorn tub away.
The rat sipped from her Dr. Pepper. "Swear the sizes are all whacked at theaters. Small is baby sized. Large is like a silo."
The lights dimmed as the trailers started.
"You better hold the tub," Meadow whispered as the main feature approached. She didn't want to jump and fling it everywhere.
"Do I need to hold your paw, too?" Petra teased.
"No ... "
As the lights dimmed and the credits started, foreboding music played, following a car on a lonely, winding mountain road. To anyone who'd ever seen a piece of entertainment before, the vehicle and its inhabitants were obviously headed toward a spooktacular fate.
Meadow gulped, a paw fumbling for the rat's.
Petra blinked, looking over to her shorter companion. The rat gave a rare smile and slipped her fingers between Meadow's.
The rat squeezed her friend's paw.
Meadow squeezed back.
