_ This story takes place 5 years after the events of the Legend of Spyro series, making Spyro a young adult dragon around this time. There will also be new and old characters later in the story to come as things have changed over the years. _

Chapter 1: The Dragon in the Wilds

The sun arose slowly as morning came to be, its light pushing through what little it could behind the trees before it finally reached above them. The light washing over the landscape and the morning light hitting over a small clearing of the forest, a small pond with a waterfall flowing into it and running down a river. As the light hit the rushing water of the waterfall, the reflections created behind it danced around in a hidden cave. Small grunts and groans filled the cave as the dancing lights moved over a young drake's face, he shifted in his sleep a bit before giving a few blinks awaking from his slumber.

"Nghh~ Morning already?" The drake groaned, reluctantly stretching his body out like most felines would to get his joint popped and to wake up his muscles for the day to come.

Sitting up from his makeshift bed made of large leaves and grass piled and woven together, he thought it was quite comfortable for what it was. Getting up he stepped over to the waterfall at the entrance of his home, hiding it for the world, his reflection blurry and wavy from the rushing water. Moving closer he stuck his muzzle into the moving waters of the waterfall, knowing it the freshest water available.

"Well I'm heading out, I'll be back!" He called out to the cave before running out of the small opening from the side of the waterfall and cave entrance, but before the young dragon could hear a response from whoever he called out to, he was already gone. As he left his cave, the bright sun shone over his little paradise of his home, from the crystal clear pond and to the vast forest that surrounded him. The smell of the fresh grass and flowers that filled the air and watching the birds and butterflies dance around in the skies. He smiled as he walked along the thin pathway to the other side of the pond and to the forest while at the same time, he stopped to look down at the calm part of the water as his reflection looked right back at him. He examined his toned muscles frame showing he was always working his body out to keep in shape. His body was covered head to tail with a coat of silver and white blended scales, though with a unique mark of a black crescent moon on his shoulder. He had three main horns, one on each side of his head and the other on the top that were blue and lightly curved in a wave as his wings webbing were blue. He had blue fur from the top of his head running down his spine, ending at the tip of his tail. "Looking as good as always." He thought to himself with a light chuckle.

Hearing a few big splashes from the center of the pond, he could feel his stomach growling lightly as he watched the fish jump out from within the water."I would go after you guys... but you're much faster than I am underwater..." He said with a smile and a light chuckle.

The silver dragon would then stroll off into the forest to hunt for hopefully an easier meal. Crouching down and crawling through the brush, staying close to the ground and making sure to stay hidden in the leaves. He knew he could always fly and catch something but where would be the fun in that, plus this kept the young drake in shape and improved his hunting skills. After about an hour or so of waiting, a small buck showed up to graze around the area, making the drake lower his breathing, making his heart beat slowly as he remained motionless to not scare the creature away. With a swift pounce at the right time, he got his meal, grabbing onto the buck with his razor sharp claws, digging into the sides of the buck to hold onto the buck to not let it get away. With his sharp fangs the dragon gave a quick and decisive strike to the buck's neck, cutting and crushing the buck's windpipe until it laid limp on the ground. Letting it go he gave a small sigh of relief and somewhat of sadness as he looked at the dead buck. "I'm sorry.. But your life will continue in the cycle."

Meanwhile in the air not too far from where the silver drake was claiming his prey, a purple figure flew above the treeline. This figure was another drake but was of purple and gold, with curved horns and spikes along his back to the tip of his tail. He looked about the treeline as he flew, seeming exhausted from a long time and soon found the small pond underneath him "Ugh, finally found some fresh water." He said with a sigh of relief. The purple drake then began to lower himself down, making a few circles looking for a landing by the water's edge. Once on the ground he looked from side to side and noticed multiple claw prints along the shore. "Huh? I guess I'm not the only dragon to use this as a rest stop... but I didn't see any other dragon in the sky..." He thought to himself briefly before he lowered his head and drank from the clear water, enjoying his first taste of water in a while.

While the purple drake was busy drinking from the pond, the silver drake was walking through the brush returning with fresh kill, only to stop at the sight of another dragon at his home. "Um... hello there.. Can I help you?" He asked in a concerned tone, he was not the best up front fighter, more of an ambusher and prayed that this wouldn't lead to a fight.

The sudden voice behind the purple drake caught him by surprise and turned around quickly for combat, only for his hind legs to land too close to the water's edge and caused the soil to give way making the drake yelp as he slipped into the cold water. The silver dragon tried to hold his composer, but the events that just transpired before him was just too funny for him to not burst into laughter.

"Wow I'm sorry I didn't mean for you to get soaked." He said with a laugh as the purple dragon began to climb out of the water, giving a good shake to dry off, causing the silver to step back.

"Yeah, that was a bit of a scare, can't just be sneaking up on others like that." The purple dragon proclaimed also joining in laughter. "The name Sypro by the way, what's yours?" Sypro asked, finally getting a moment to inspect his new companion.

"You can call me Silver." He said with a smile after his laugh, a few chuckles still here and there. "I was just about to build a fire and eat if you want some, I'm sure there is enough on this thing for the both of us." With an excited nod from Spyro and him volunteering to help gather wood, it didn't take any time to get a good size fire pit set up.

"Now where are my spark rocks..." Silver mumbled as he looked around, Spyro watched slightly confused and with a quick breath, shot a puff of bright red flame over the sticks igniting them.

"Oh wow! I guess that works!" Silver proclaimed both happily and surprised.

After Spyro started the fire and Silver put the buck on a spit, the two began to talk, getting to know one another after their little introductions earlier. "Wow so you were the one that stopped that giant thing and saved the world?!" Silver asked excitedly into the stories that this stranger was telling. "Huh so you did all that but got lost on a mission to help defend a village from being raided?" Silver asked after hearing Spyro's story as the purple drake nodded in response.

"Well you see, I'm not the best with directions and the village is outside of our realms territory, plus there was a storm and kind of lost my way and I ended up here." Spyro protested. With a quick chuckle from Silver at the list of excuses.

"Well I've grown up in this forest my whole life, I know them like the back of my paw. I think I know where the village you are talking about is, if you'd like I could take you in the morning." Silver offered.

"Really? That would be great, thank you!" Spyro exclaimed happily. As the night went on Spyro looked back and forth keeping an eye on the forest surrounding them, seeming to keep on edge ready incase something happened. Something that Silver picked up on quickly and let out a light smile.

"You okay there Spyro?" Silver asked, looking at Spyro.

Spyro nods a bit in response. "You never know when something will attack in the night while we sleep in the open."

"Ahh well we don't have to sleep in the open you know, my cave is behind the waterfall, we'll be fine in there." Silver proclaimed with a smile, getting up and starting to walk along the shoreline with some of the firewood to the waterfall with Spyro closely following behind him curious to see this cave he mentioned. When they entered behind the waterfall, Spyro got to see the hidden cave, the light filling up the cave, seeing the bed and other various things Silver had collected. Noticing only the one bed Spyro looked around to find a spot to sleep. "You can take the bed if you wish Spyro, you are more exhausted then I am and you could use the soft bed."

"Are you sure about that?" Spyro asked, stepping onto the bed and feeling how soft it was and laid down on it. Silver nods before laying down on the cold ground shivering a bit at the feeling of it as he was used to being on the bed away from the cold.

Spyro steered in his sleep as the stories he told Silver this night came back as nightmares for him, remembering him of the terrible things that he had to face and losses he had to endure. He was surrounded by fire and Ignitus stood behind them with hollow eyes.

"Spyro... Spyro...." Ignitus's voice echoed around him, cracking the ground for more flames to spew out from them, getting closer to Spyro as he looked back and forth panicking. "How can you save this village Spyro...." More cracks formed as Ignitus spoke.

"Ignitus! Please!" Spyro called out in desperation.

"...When you couldn't even save me!" Ignitus roared out, his body engulfed in flames and the ground below shattering, causing Spyro to fall into darkness.

"Ignitus!" Spyro cried out, jumping up from bed in a cold sweat, heavy breathing filled the cave as he tried to calm his racing heart. When he looked around in the darkness of the cave, the moonlight going through the waterfall made Silver a light in the dark which helped Spyro calm down from his recent nightmare. He then noticed Silver shivering on the ground a bit and immediately felt bad for taking the bed. He stepped off the bed and laid down right next to Silver, letting his body heat warm up his new friend and laid a wing over him. "Guess you are having trouble sleeping due to being cold..." Spyro said softly not to wake Silver up and soon felt the other dragon start to relax and shift a bit against him as he was now warm. "With a little help from each other we can both sleep soundly." Spyro said with a yawn and laid his head down drifting to sleep with Silver by his side, his very own light in the dark...

Silver was the first to wake up that morning, letting out a long yawn and stretching out against Spyro's sleeping body. Silver's eyes blinked a bit not sure what his back was up against and lifting his head to see Spyro's right next to his own made him blush, this dragon he just met was sleeping against him... and it felt nice. Silver had noticed the dragon's strong physical stature while listening to his heroic stories and adventures. But, this time he was right up against him, feeling the well toned muscles up along his back. As Silver laid there admiring Spyro while he could notice Spyro starting to steer awake and blink a few times, causing Silver to jump up and move back from him, blushing even more as he moved away from Spyro.

"Ahem huh morning... How'd you sleep?" Silver scrambled with his thoughts as he moved away from Spyro. With another yawn Spyro stretched out and stood up with a confused look for why Silver was acting weird, until he realized that he did just join him on the ground in the middle of the night.

"Oh!.. I slept pretty well actually." He said, having a little blush of his own and looking away.

"We should get moving..." Silver said before walking towards the exit. "I'm heading out, I'll be back." He said softly, but not soft enough it seemed for Spyro to hear it and became more confused. He looked around to see he was the only one here with Silver, with a light shrug of confusion and worrying about it later followed him out the cave.

After getting some water and eating leftovers from last night for a quick morning meal, they both took to the skies. As they flew side by side, Silver took a few glances at Spyro but turned his head if Spyro ever looked his way.

"So Silver where are we heading?" Spyro called out due to the wind of us flying made things hard to hear.

"We are heading to that mountain in the distance, the village that you described is at the base of it." Silver called back. Silver seemed to be slightly slower then Spyro when it came to flying, it was no wonder to him since Spryo was more used to flying everywhere. After hours of flying with some of it being in awkward silence, the two of them eventually made it near the base of the mountain and settled down for the night. The two of them both decided to get firewood and whatever things they can get to snack on for the night. After a little while they regrouped at a shallow cave, so they may keep an eye if anyone showed up.

"So Spyro you want to do your thing and spit out some fire for us?" Silver sat behind the firewood, waiting to watch. With a chuckle Spyro nodded and took a slight deep breath before letting out a light but precise flame on the firewood, igniting it. Silver let out an excited look at the display of the Spyro's powers. "That's still so cool." Silver said happily.

"It's not that big of a deal Silver, there are all kinds of things dragons can do back at Warfang." Spyro proclaimed with a light blush, he was used to people praising him for saving the world but Silver was just making him feel special for just being him.

"What's Warfang?" Silver asked, tilting his head at Spyro, confused at the name.

Spyro looked shocked at first but then remembered that Silver did live in the woods for his whole life. "Well Silver it's the most beautiful place in the world~ It was made by moles for the dragons. It was used as the beacon of hope for all during the battle with Malefor and his army of monsters..."

"That sounds... like it was a rough time..." Silver said softly as his expression went from excitement, to one of sadness. "I'm sorry you had to go through with that..."

Spyro didn't respond, only looked down at the fire as he watched it dance. His heart and his breathing started to race as his mind flashed with memories of the past, moving through the belt of fire, losing Ignitus... Silver was confused at the lack of response from Spyro before he noticed that Spyro was starting to have a panic attack and moved up to him. "Spyro? Hey Spyro!" Silver yelled, moving Spyro back and which made him look at Silver. "Spyro... just look at me. Breath... you're going to be okay. You're not alone." Silver said softly to Spryo, his sapphire blue eyes looking into Spyro's purples and vice versa. For a sec Spyro didn't see Silver, but Cinder and her look of worry instead during the moment he was corrupted by the darkness. But after a few blinks he saw Silver so close to him and with a worried look, his breathing got slower and slower getting under control before giving a soft nod to Silver.

"Thank you Silver.." Spyro almost whispered with a tear in his eye.

"It's okay Spyro... I'm sorry for making you bring back bad memories. I promise I won't do it again. Let's get some rest, you've had a long day." Spyro was silent but nodded again as he laid down to sleep, Silver not wanting him to be alone, laid down right next to Spyro and rested his wing on him. "Don't worry Spyro I got you." He said softly as Spyro drifted to sleep, feeling more relaxed with his light in the dark. Silver stayed up most of the night, mostly keeping an eye on Spyro as he slept, feeling kind of bad for him, having to have gone through so much hardship at this age of his life. Eventually he grew too tired to keep his eyes open before he too succumbed to sleep.

Spyro was the first of the two to wake up this time, giving a few light blinks and a long yawn as he licks his lips a bit. He tried to lift his head up but was seeming to struggle a bit, unsure as to why. He turned his head slightly to see Silver's head on his neck, still sleeping and slightly snoring a bit. It had appeared that some time last night in his sleep, Silver decided Spyro would make a good pillow. With a little chuckle he tried to lift up again, this disturbed Silver enough to shift and move his head off Spyro and onto his own paws. Spyro lifted his head up, finally feeling it quite stiff, wondering how long they had been in that position last night. "Man you got a heavy head." Spyro stated while tilting his head enough to pop a few joints. He stepped out of the little den they used for shelter and looked around at the forest surrounding them, before stopping to see something he hoped to not see. "Oh no... Silver, wake up! We got to go now! The village is in trouble!" Spyro yelled out as his eyes were fixated on a large trail of smoke rising into the sky just over the mountain. The sudden yelling startled Silver awake and caused him to roll up and onto his feet.

"What?! What's happening?" Silver looked back and forth before watching Spyro take to the sky. "Spyro what's going on?!" He called to Spyro before running out and taking to the sky with him, finally getting to see what the issue was. "Oh no..." He says softly to himself, hoping for the best outcome for the villagers.

As Silver took off after Spyro, there was no way he could keep up with the purple dragon at the rushing speed he was flying, falling more and more behind. Spyro had only stopped for a brief moment looking around to see the village half in flames, creatures of all kinds running in both fear and desperation as some carried children while others carried buckets of water to put out the houses. Spyro turned his head to see Silver catching up to him and called out to him. "Silver, go help the civilians!" He called out before rushing down to the flaming houses. With a quick inhale and some concentration Spyro unleashed a blast of frost and ice in a line as he flew over the houses, putting out the flames and covering them with snow. When Silver finally caught up to where Spyro had dived down, he couldn't help but be amazed at what Spyro's abilities could do.

"Wow... okay focus Silver, Spyro is counting on you... help the villagers." Silver whispered to himself, psyching himself up. He couldn't help but breathe heavily from both flying and never having been in this type of situation. Quickly scanning the area from above he noticed a clearing in the village that he could get everyone too to keep them out of harm's way. With a quick dive he landed down where he saw most villagers.

"Everyone! Quickly follow me to safety!" He shouted out loud, most of the villagers stopping and gathering to the dragon, while a few were sure and fled the area on their own. With what remained Silver nodded to them and began to run down the street with them following. He ran down the street with the villagers following just behind him, moving past the buildings while turning his head from side to side to see down the alleyways. He then passed another set of houses before suddenly his vision changed as the world shifted and a pain on his side as he was knocked into one of the allies, tumbling onto the ground with a cough. Shaking his head, he looked to see what had happened to him and by his side was an ape that jumped him out of the opposite alleyway. The ape gives a snarl as he jumps again at the dragon, Silver rolling over onto his back, grabbing the ape's arms and continuing the momentum of his roll to toss the ape into one of the builds and rolling onto his feet. Turning his head to look at the villages that have stopped in their tracks.

"Get to the clearing, you're almost there!" Silver yelled out to them, which they immediately took to his order and continued on as he turned his head back to the ape that was now getting back up. "Okay ugly let's do this!" He growls as the ape snarls back.

As the two threaten each other with predatory displays they then charge towards each other, the ape running forward and jumping into the air to a downward slam attack while Silver sprinted forward and ducking under the jumping ape. This caused the ape to jump over Silver which Silver then jumped landed on the wall with his paws and pushed off to get the ape from behind, tackling him to the ground with a slide and biting the ape at the back of the neck. Teeth digging into the sensitive vital area in hopes to kill the ape quickly. The Ape squealed in pain, shaking valiantly to knock the dragon off of him, to which Silver responded with claws digging into the apes back and began to tear at the exposed flesh. A few seconds went by in the struggle between the two before the ape goes limp in the dragon's grasp, Silver letting go of the ape's neck and licking his lips a bit of the blood that had begun to fill his mouth with heavy breathing. It was then that Silver heard an explosion and a torrent of screams and his heart sank as he immediately took to the sky to the area that he told the villagers to go to what was now aflame.

He saw a few blasts of various elements one after the other as he reached the area, seeing his assumption correct as he saw Spyro on the ground blasting... something? He quickly landed on the ground near Spyro after he let out a blast of fire down an alleyway.

"Spyro what happened?" Silver asked as he landed to which Spyro turned angrily at Silver.

"What happened? You weren't here! Where did you go? I told you to look after the villagers Silver!" Spyro yelled at Silver, the sudden yelling and the anger in Spyro's normally calm happy voice shocked Silver, making him kind of step back from him and lower himself.

"I...I got jumped by an ape along the way and had to take care of it..." Silver hesitantly explained himself.

"Just an ape?! You should have just blasted it with your element and stuck with the villagers!" Syrpo yelled once again, projecting his frustrations at Silver.

Silver lowered his head at that. "I...I...I don't have one..."

Spyro's expression suddenly changed from anger to one of confusion at what Silver just claimed, a dragon not having an element? They then heard a strange growling from an alleyway causing them both to turn to look to see the shade from the buildings started getting darker and darker before something actually came out of the shadows. Three small hunched over creatures made of shadow started to crawl their way towards them. Long lanky arms with extended fingers that ended in jagged claws, four red circles on their face that he assumed were eyes. Their mouths parted into extreme wide smiles with long teeth made of the same shadows.

"Uhh Sypro what are those... " Silver asked Spyro as he took a step back, his hind legs shaking slightly at the sight of them.

"I don't know Silver but I'm sure they're not a match for us." Spyro said with a smile turning to see Silver backing away, making him lose his smile now. "Silver..." Spyro's heart kind of dropped, how could he have just said all those things to him, and crushing his spirits like that, he wasn't the best ether when he started being a hero.

As soon as Spyro was about to try and say something to cheer Silver up the shadow creatures hissed and jumped forward at Spyro. Catching Spyro for a moment as he jumped back, nearly getting hit by the wide swinging claws and taking a deep breath, Spyro released a large torrent of flame. The creatures dissipated at the flame, but in a few seconds they seemed to have reformed just a few feet away as if nothing had happened to them. Spyro was shocked at this, his flame breath... his most powerful breath had no effect on them? The creatures rushed once again, Spyro jumping to one side and spinning around to swipe the shadow with his tail but as he suspected it went right through them. He unfortunately wasn't fast enough this time to dodge all three of them as one of them slashed at his side drawing blood as another shoved him back, sliding a few feet on the ground towards Silver who at this point was trembling in fear. Spyro coughed a bit as he struggled to get up, his body started to spark with electricity as he moved forward as the electric current all around him shot bolts of lightning out. Each bolt hits the creatures, causing them to disperse for a moment but once again reforming just a few feet away.

Spyro was beginning to breathe heavily from the amount of usage of his elemental powers, these things just wouldn't stop no matter what he threw at them. He only had two elements left in him that he hadn't tried but he didn't know how much he had left in him to fight after using so much of his ice breath to help the village fires. As Spyro continued thinking the three creatures didn't let up as they rushed him and each slashing at him, cutting up his chest and face, with a hiss of pain Spyro stepped back but then grunted as the third slammed into him again knocking him back and past Silver this time and not moving. Silver's eyes widened seeing Spyro being hurt so easily, the hero of the lands and the purple dragon of legends was being beaten right in front of him... if that's the case what could he do. "I have no element, I can't keep the villagers safe and I can't even help Spyro when he needs help the most right now... my legs won't stop shaking..." Silver told himself, his mind racing things over and over as his fear took him. The Three creatures then jumped at the stunned Silver dragon ready to slash at him while he was frozen in place and at that moment Silver heard a soft female voice in his mind.

"You have nothing to fear dear. One day you will be the greatest dragon that ever lived... I believe in you..." The voice spoke, Silver's legs immediately stopped to shake as he heard the voice and his worries went away. "Now focus dear... reach inside yourself..." Her voice continued, his deep blue eyes turning a bright glowing white as his scales began to glow as well. Find your gift... and let go!" She yelled in his head.

"Leave... him... alone!" Silver yelled out with a growl, a bright flash of white emitted from his body caused the creatures to disperse.

A few seconds later, the light faded with Silver left standing there breathing heavily as the creatures didn't reform and they were now alone. He immediately turned around and leaned down to look at Spyro with a bit of a panic but quickly relaxed as he noticed that he was still breathing. The villagers quickly came to his side both thanking him for saving them as well as tending to Spyro's injuries.

"No no it's... I barely did anything Spyro did most of the work." Silver proclaimed as the villagers thanked him. "But you were the one that was able to beat the shadow monsters and save us and Spyro!" Most of them protested in return. He blinked a few times as he began to come to terms with it, he did save them, although he wasn't sure how he did what he did. He thought to himself as he sat down and looked at his forepaws, all he could remember was hearing a voice speak to him the same way she used to whenever he was afraid.

"Thanks mother..." Silver said with a smile as he looked up into the sky, some tears rolling down his face. "I'm going to be brave and great like you told me I will." He said softly.

Spyro slowly opened his eyes with a loud groan of pain as he quickly shifted up to his feet. "Silver!" He yelled out before wrenching in pain at his side as he noticed that he was bandaged up. "What? Where am I?" He asked himself as he looked around, noticing he was in a large room with bed, water pail and some used bandages that were to the side. He slowly steps out to the room and into the light outside, he had to close his eyes for a moment before adjusting to see what was around him. The villagers were busy rebuilding their homes and helping bandage those that were hurt.

"I see you're awake, I was just about to come check up on you." Spyro heard from the side, turning to see Silver walking up to him. "You gave me quite the scare you know. Though I guess it will take more than that to do in the legendary purple dragon." Silver said with a smile and laugh. Spyro shook his head a bit before giving a laugh back as he looked around.

"Yeah... What happened?" Spyro asked.

"Well you've been out for a day now from the battle with those shadow creatures. We bandaged you up right after but you wouldn't wake up, so I let you sleep while I took care of you." Silver said with a smile as he watched all the villagers helping each other out. Spyro looked at Silver, was this really Silver? He had a new aura about himself.

"But... the creatures, how did you defeat them when you don't have an element?" Spyro asked, still confused.

"I... I think I found my element" Silver said with a smile.

"I see... Thank you Silver. For saving me" Spyro said sincerely.

Two days went by as they didn't want to leave yet till Spyro was in better shape to fly, and to much of Spyro's dismay he was not allowed to help fix up the village, Silver's orders. Silver on the other hand was busy helping as much as he could around the village wanting to not be just another mouth for them to worry about, he wanted to do his part. Even while working tirelessly around the village, Silver continued to help Spyro out with his bandages, much to Spyro's protest that he could do it himself but he was a persistent dragon. Eventually Spyro was in decent shape for flight, they gathered up some supplies that the villagers put into a bag that was strapped to their backs and they took off to the sky. They didn't fly nearly as long of trips as they had on the way to the village like before, Silver was still concerned for Spyro and insisted that they took regular breaks since they weren't on a time schedule like before. Eventually they landed for the night and a clearing, Spyro easily taking the bag off his back but looking over at Silver he chuckled as he watched him struggle with it.

"Here let me help, these things can be annoying when you aren't used to them like I am." Spyro says with a chuckle as he fondles with the latch on Silver's side, making Silver blush a bit at feeling embarrassed that Spyro had to help him like a child... but wasn't upset about it either.

"Yeah... Thanks..." Silver says with a bit of a stutter. As they got the fire going, Silver laid down by it with his bag being used as a pillow before hearing a thump and feeling Spyro against his side, causing him to blush again. "Spyro..." He asked, turning to him, but was only met with a smile from the purple dragon.

"Well you get cold at night and I...I have trouble sleeping so...I thought... that last time I slept fine with you next to me..." Spyro responded, this time he was the one stuttering and finding the words to say. With a gentle nod, Silver returned the smile.

"Yeah... I'd like that." He said softly before laying his head down closing his eyes to sleep, Spyro closely followed Silver's lead and drifted off to sleep as well.

End of Chapter 1
