#11 of The Old Rainforest

Well I came into this series, well Modern Rainforest knowing that this wasn't going to be a story with a happy ending. When I started writing on Old Rainforest, I didn't know the extend of how much I was right, when I finished this, I knew that this was something so much further than where I had ever gone. I was sick to my stomach, partly because of how much of my character's faith I held in my hands. But I knew it would be a disservice to give them anything but this, and looking back from the beginning, well I know this was how it would always end.

Chapter Eleven: Light, Part One

"So then what now?" Dustin asked Elias finally breaking what seemed to be an hour of pure silence between the two of them. Looking around two Outsider chairs now sat empty. Dustin breathed and looked back to Elias knowing the shark had something in his mind.

"What do you mean?" Elias said looking up from the floor, his face turned from that look of deep thinking and back to normal, the hidden sadness in his face hidden carelessly; Dustin didn't have to be a mind reader to figure out what the shark was thinking about, or better put who he was thinking about.

"I can tell that he was your only link to this world, it doesn't bother me that much; you loved him and now he's gone, you can leave the house now." Dustin said as he expected Elias to open a portal and leave him with a third seat, that seemed to be how the trend was going, he was going to be alone.

"No, not yet. I still have some promises to fulfill; Colin wouldn't like it if I didn't leave this universe in a better place than when I came in." The Kagen spoke, laughing as he thought about Colin. Looking to Dustin, the shark looked down both of them alone now in this world without anyone to return to.

"Listen if you want to help out with the Neuroseekers then I won't stop you but do know it won't be easy. A lot of people have died, people are angry and either way the Neuroseekers or the Outsiders will be destroyed." Dustin said as he leaned back into his chair, wondering if he could do this on his own. He might have been a one-man army but it seemed he might need an army.

"Well I started this question and I want to see how ends up, might as well. I'm not exactly being welcomed back into the Kagen overworld. The north winds blow over this city, and like a pine in the forest we need to stand straight up against the wind." Elias said as he stood up, walking over to the window and looking out into the city, he saw the city. She was rebuilding, the shield cutting off most of the larger buildings points and leaving the rumble of half near the river.

"You know when I'm going you are going to be alone, you can come with me maybe I'll make you a Kagen Lord if you come with me, I will surely need a High General when I ascend back to the throne." Elias asked extending his hair as he looked back to Dustin the shark seemingly pondering the idea himself.

"I don't think I can, I get to stay here and need to get back on my feet and prepare because after this the city is still going to need protection, start the next hopefully better generation of Outsiders. I think that with a little effort from myself I might be shooing for the next Outsiders head." Dustin said as he looked through the window and looked around, he'd want this place to be his base.

"Well don't say I didn't offer you, but you're always going to be welcome with me and the Kagens. Don't worry I won't come after you." Elias told the truth and looked back to the base, and then back to the city, she was still recovering and she was needed to get some help, a little energy placed into the system in order to stop entropy from grabbing a hold of her.

Elias looked down on the ground, looking at the people; so many had died, so many funerals and caskets. So many flags being flown at half-mast, and he could have stopped it so early if he had searched for Twilight, but it seemed that was not his fate. The world was a horrendous place and he just had to live in now.

"Well then time to fly more flags and chop down the wood because with all they done, the Neuroseekers will pay for what they've done and they will feel the pain that this city has felt over this time." Dustin said as he walked over to the window and looked out, the city was recovering.

Dustin walked over to the building's entrance, plastic wrap with a far more powerful perception device built with in. It kept the room to nice temperature and you would have to be looking quite specifically in order to break the illusion that it step up. Stepping out, and walking into the weaker field of the main perception filter Dustin looked up.

The clouds and the window blew over his body, maybe winter was over and it seemed that the first rain of spring was coming soon.

"Look at all the workers rebuilding the city, I don't think they want their work ruined again so were are going to do this and make sure they will stay dead this time." Dustin said looking up into the sky, the buildings raising into the sky, a show of American technological prowess. Workers in large car like bodies fit out with hover devices took pieces of building materials and floated them to their objective.

"You mean the Neuroseekers and you know that if you're going to do this, you will have to kill Ronan, I can't take away that kill from you." Elias added, as he joined Dustin out in the city, looking around at the bustling city working to rebuild itself. Just like a body after a flu, it was helping itself and recovering.

"Why can't you, it's all just conjecture and I don't think the city is going to care on who kills him anyway." Dustin said as he spoke to Elias, getting the shark to laugh as they stood in the warm sun. Standing still Dustin adjusted his hoodie and looked down to his hands, wondering if he could go through with it, if he could complete the deed.

"I going to be leaving so why not give you the glory, but you need to do it, you need to accept that or you will never forgive yourself or me for killing him anyway, and Ronan does need to die." Elias said as he looked at Dustin, the sweat coming down his face and his nervousness pained a different picture on what the man was willing to do. "Look at you Dustin you're still in love with him, you can't think of killing him, you need to realize he is a monster."

"He isn't I've seen how nice he is and he can return, they always can." Dustin argued as he quietly spoke, Elias smiled looking at the shark and seeing how much he had grown, the pine spout had grown into a large tree thick at its roots and base and it had outlasted winter, but if the Kagen knew one thing it was that winter always striked one last time.

"Fine then, if you believe that but remember a cheetah's spots don't change and before you just never knew he had those spots." Elias said wondering if he was right, closing his eyes and wondering if that could apply to him, would people still see him as the dragon emperor. He was just going to have to be strong.

"Don't be racist against cheetahs." Dustin whispered and he managed to form a smile on both his and Elias's face, both of them hiding their sadness and looking up to a city needing to be reborn, needing to be rebuilt.

"So then the mission, we're going to take down Ronan go in quick, blow shit up and fuck them up?" Elias asked, pondering to himself as he looked through the city below them. Everyone was helping and here they were staying up and just watching them. Taking a breather, he didn't want to do anything now and didn't want to fight anything.

"I think so, make sure that Ronan knows what he has been doing and comes back to us." Dustin said, as Elias laughed a bit, still trying to convince Dustin that the answer to this situation wasn't going to be peace.

"Listen, I've seen war and war like you've never believed, I've seen Earth's burned and sometimes under my own hand. So let me tell you I've seen people get destroyed under my hand and I'll tell you that it is something you can never recover for, and if you let him live then he will continue this." Elias closed his eyes and breathed a bit, waiting for Dustin to retort.

"Well if you want to be prove that idea then do something about it, put your money where your mouth is or get off this planet." Dustin smiled and walked away, his sadness hiding himself and covering itself. Dustin walked away from the shadow of New York and prepared for the invasion.

Looking at the inside of the base, walking over towards the table, Elias followed him into the base; his footsteps behind and seemingly interested. Dustin looked at the table and sat down, looking at Elias and smiled as he looked at the table, both of them stood silent and waited a few second.

"Ok, now I'm confused what are we doing here?" Elias asked as he sat comfortably in the table. Standing still as he looked over the table, and seemingly the random assortment of items, there was a napkin holder and a few spice shakers as well as pens and papers. Dustin put his hand over the table and seemingly was about to touch the table and an item until he pulled his hand back.

"Just trying to remember if it is the pepper shaker or the salt shaker, one activates the self-destruction series of events and the other is what we want." Dustin carried his hand over the table holding it between the salt and the pepper, waiting for a second Dustin took a breath and looked at Elias, holding it for a second and then putting it on the pepper, pulled it.

The pepper pulled back and suddenly around them the ground shook, the table started to lower and looking around Elias wondered what was happening. The table sunk into the ground and they seemingly disappeared down the shaft and down through the ground.

Dustin looked around the ground and wondered what he would choose this time and as the table landed on the lower level, suddenly the lights started it up and behind both of them two quivers appeared. Dustin smiled at Elias and jumped up grabbing his quiver and standing up, looking around he pulled himself and walked over to the wall.

As the lights around them started up, the metallic walls around lit up for the first time in a while showed their contents. It was filled with weapons and Dustin quickly grabbed all the weapons he could, semiautomatic weapons, pistols and shoving them into multiple pockets into the quiver on his back the Outsider made his way around.

"Come on grab whatever you want, you need all the stuff in addition to your power, get all the weapons you want to." Dustin explained and then he grabbed a SMG. Holding it in his hand and looking at it; he loaded it and then fixed some bullets into his quiver. Feeling it was pretty full, he looked over and saw Elias had grabbed something pretty cool.

"Now then two Rocket propelled grenades, are you flirting with me?" Dustin said seeing the two massive explosive devices from his quiver. Elias smiled and loaded some more rounds into his back. Dustin walked forward and looked to the back of the room, standing over a hole in the room, and they both knew it was access to the sewers they both stood over it and held themselves for a second, it was time for their rights to come.

...

"I just love sharing a cozy hot cup of lapsang souchong tea." Speaking, the leader of the Neuroseekers pressed the tea and poured it into a cup, he looked at the shark sitting down in his imperial room. The shark looked confused, at his destination, the large inordinate room covered in what had to be thousand dollars of decorations and fancy paints, yellow patterns painted over a red background seemingly all done in a masterful sense.

"What do you want me here for?" The shark said, this wasn't a shark who looked like Dustin, Ronan was sure of it, but instead the shark was someone far more important to his plans. Pouring the tea and sliding it over to the other side of his tea drinking table, Ronan smiled at least the man wasn't running.

"Well you see your large black glasses and hoodie say somethings about you, you are one of the Messengers?" Ronan asked as the man sipped down his tea, nodding if he was right these people could hack into anything, all thanks to a self-thinking AI, it was only their leader. "Well then I hope the Convergence has good thoughts on me, but she is powerless against me, she can only order you around, and she can probably here me right now as well, not that I care."

"Oh she can anything you say probably, but know that she has viewed your uprising in a negative sense, so we might soon end up facing each other on the opposite sides of the battle field." The shark said his open phone in his hand, that seemed to be the mainline between him and his fancy AI, and that would be his key to the information he needed.

"Well then I need one thing from you, information on the Outsiders computer, hack it and release it to the public." Ronan explained to the shark, quickly and without looking down the man opened another tab and started to type. He wasn't even looking down; he was using muscle memory to do it. And then showing it to the wolf, he smiled. "Well then that's perfect, I'll take it."

"Not so fast bro, we need a little compensation between you and the AI, so get your bitcoins, we'll take em." The shark said as he pulled back the phone and for a second, Ronan held back, as the hacker shark took a sip of tea, the man giggled a bit. "What's so funny."

"Really don't you know, don't drink the tea." Ronan giggled and then like clockwork, the man's heart seized up and quickly his whole body did, he wasn't dead but a massive gap in his memory would form and they would be back to the same square, so Ronan just walked over intending to transfer the file seamlessly without the knowledge of the machine.

The room, was unable to be scanned in addition to the rest of Riker's Island, Ronan would just let the Convergence figure that one out on its own.

...

Dustin walked forward, his body feeling a bit of strain around him; standing up and walked forward, his arm behind him. Elias was walking forward, Dustin amending the Kagen's weapon cache with a single pistol, in this case he would handle front defensive and Dustin figured he really didn't need to focus much on back defense.

"How are you doing with all that water, can you hold it for much longer?" Elias asked as he tried to look back but the sewers were blocked by a massive three-yard-long containment of water. Dustin strained himself as he pulled it forward with his powers, nearly there.

"Well we are nearly to the transfer pipe, and then maybe we'll be able to get to Riker's Island." Elias said as he walked forward, holding a flashlight with his gun suddenly this was a two-thousand three first person shooter game. The shark couldn't hold both at the same time.

"Ok, I can still hold it." Dustin said his voice was just still a little strained but he was still making great pace. Looking forward Dustin saw the transfer pipe, the little closed off lock and still pulling forward, he looked and saw the oil filled pipe.

"We're here." Elias said as he ran forward and grabbed the lock, opening it the pipe let out a few drips of oil but was empty. The Kagen shark pulled his leg up and shuffled into the tinnier pipe and let the shark follow. Going into the dark pipe, Elias stuffed himself inside and looked around, it was a bit like some sort of horrible dark fantasy that made him want to use the seven dirty words.

Following behind, Dustin squeezed his water through and pulled it through the pipe as well. He was careful not wanting to grab much oil from the pipe behind him. Walking forward, he looked down in any moment the major of Ronan's empire could detect them and send them back through the pipe with probably one flick of his wrist.

He walked forward, his back ducking down and his head still being shoved against the top of the pipe. Walking forward, he knew he was going to do this, he was going to destroy the Neuroseekers but still he sighed when he thought of Ronan, the wolf still in his mind and he wondered if he could go through with the act of killing Ronan.

"I can feel your apprehensiveness, just stay calm and don't do anything, just remember Ronan is truly evil and if you want to do that right thing then you know what you have to do." Elias added, knowing that he was going to resist. The Outsider wouldn't be able to do it until he saw Ronan see something do something of absolute pure evil.

Elias had few of the actions under his belt and he knew that soon Ronan was going to do something like that, he was going to push Dustin's idolized spot too far and then he would pay and Ronan had that feeling that he might be the one who paid for that action to occur. And then as they seemingly went through the end, they arrived at something different.

"The hell is this; the hell are those?" Dustin said as he walked out of the tunnel and landed on flat land; standing up he looked around the poorly lit area; all around them seemingly chandeliers of candles lighting the area in an orange glow. And in front of them there was a moat, and blocking the path forward was a moat bridge.

"Really not comfortable with the oil and the candles in the same room, seems to be just a bit more dangerous than I would imagine." Elias spoke as he looked at his feet and pulled it up, oil dripped off his shoe and into the tiny sole height pool below him. The Outsider looked around and felt that maybe at least they would have the escape.

"Well first things first, we need to get through these gates and then we can continue forward. He knew we were coming and set this up." Dustin added as he walked forward and then out of the ground as he approached the moat bridge, covered in a layer of metal, six gargoyles appeared.

"Oh great a puzzle, can't we just blast through the door?" Elias asked probably already knowing the answer to that. Dustin looked at the bridge, and knew that besides having to jump across the gap that the bridge covered, they would need to have enough energy to blast through.

"No, covered in Azbantium; it will bounce off and then hit the candles. I wouldn't even attempt to try it." The shark walked forward and looked at the Gargoyles, they must have been some sort of puzzle. And as he touched their heads, he realized they were made out of some sort stone, but they seemed like they could be destroyed in a flick of his finger.

"So then we have to destroy the gargoyles and then we can get through, but in which order?" Elias added as he walked over and formed a ball of energy in his hand and left that question for the two of them to ponder. Waiting a second and looking around for any sort of clue they were seemingly out of lick and stuck in the room right before their destination.

"Well then, let's get down to thinking because I have the feeling that just like our salt and pepper shaker we might be dealing with an explosive situation." Dustin pondering sitting down on the ground and looking at the gargoyles, all of them looking strange but seemingly have no order, only six of them standing with the same look on their face.

"Oh there has to be something, Ronan must have let it slip somewhere." Dustin in his mind wondered for something, and then he thought back. And then the words came rushing to his head, suddenly his mind was back to the beginning of the end, he was back into the library at the end of the universe.

...

"Octavian, no Twilight you're back." Dustin said as he looked in front of him and he was in the frozen end of the universe. This was Twilight in front of him, of course at the time Octavian's mind still occupied the host body, so he was good, and based on how he wasn't killed yet it seemed that they were good in dealing with the shark.

"Yes and once again. You will return without a doubt." Octavian explained, this was the first piece of the puzzle, they had returned without a doubt. The Outsiders returned from the future without any doubt, they had all returned.

"Fire will burn where water spouts; a death will happen in fall." Octavian added from his book, Dustin realized this meant the sewer fires and Dwight's death which he realized before. And then Dustin looked at the gargoyles through his vision.

"Skip to the part with the gargoyles!" Dustin said as he watched Octavian and then quickly watched as his shark eyes skipped a line and then arrived.

"And when the gargoyles do harken, 5, 3, 6, 2, and 1." Octavian said before closing the book, a lock placed on to its cover as if to prevent him from looking at it. Dustin smiled realizing what he needed to see and then the vision closed, Dustin stood up looking at the Gargoyles and knowing that he was going to do it, he was going to Ronan's base weather or not the dammed wolf liked it or not.

"Well then let's do this get ready." Dustin yelled as he raised some water from his container and then threw it forward, blasting it through the fifth gargoyle the eyes in the other ones lit up and then through the third the eyes glowed brighter and more as the sixth was blasted, the rocks shattering onto the oil filled ground.

It was a puzzle seemingly able to be solved only by Dustin, if Elias had done it; then the rocks would have set the room on fire with the oil. And as Dustin threw his water through the second and the first, leaving only the fourth standing and like that it eyes glowed and it laughed a bit.

And like that the drawbridge started to lower, Dustin watched as it was let down and then seemingly it opened to something else. It opened right into the Riker Island Facility, natural light flowed into the room and looked around wondering what was happening, something was happening. And as the drawbridge hit the ground, he realized that something bad was happening.

"Oh and look at you two trapped, now the question is, did I know you were coming or did the drawbridge take so long to lower and make such a noise that everyone would have gathered here?" Ronan said as he and his army approached the drawbridge, behind him the footsteps of ten thousand Neuroseekers all with the advance plasma weapons pointing forward.

"Now then you know what we're going to do, so get out of our way or else face us!" Ronan yelled as he started to march forward, Dustin looked to Elias and they both nodded quite quickly Dustin pulled the water forward and it flooded out into the room, and then in front of the drawbridge he pulled it up into the air.

"Now then a little bit of this and a little bit of that!" Dustin said as he strained his body and pulling his fingers together and squeezing them together, the water starting to freeze and forming a wall in front of the Neuroseekers. Dustin started to back up knowing they would have to escape and warn the city, they would have to or else they might fall.

"Fire!" Ronan screamed as he backed up through the crowd of people and allowed his men to go unchained and then flashes of purple and green blasted out through the crowd and at the massive ice wall and then the oil below them started to shift, like a grip Dustin fell into the pipe, and as Elias was knocked over he saw Major Inferno laughing at them.

"Well this could have gone worse." Elias said as he backed up and the oil pulled him alone, looking to Dustin the shark was covered in oil. And as they were sent through the tunnel, Elias looked behind and then was splashed onto the floor of the sewer, oil spilling out and going into the tunnel. Dustin spit oil out of his mouth as he landed on the ground of the sewer.

"Well then, we need to focus on this situation. So then what do we do first?" Elias said as he stood up and looked around, seeming looking around. Through the pipe the Neuroseekers would come, Elias grabbed the edge and holding onto it, melted it with his powers. A tiny amount of oil lit on the other side but at least it would stay closed.

"I think we're going to keep the future running, so then get me a pencil and a piece of paper and we're going to make sure not to create a paradox and how many times a day do you get to say that?" Dustin explained as he stood up and looked around, walking around he looked and saw the natural light of a sewer grate shining through. Walking forward, he watched as Elias caught onto the plan and followed.

And slowly even as Elias had sealed, oil still dripped through slowly but surely it was leaking out. And they left, unaware of Ronan's plan and it would soon come to fruition, the wolf's plan soon going to come to completion and all it depended on was the water. And soon the madman's ambitions would spill out into the city and like that it would all come to a head.

...

"So then Octavian, how are you feeling?" Dustin asked, they were sitting down in a park and in front of him stood the shark in the future to be known as the Kagen God Twilight. One would swear that the now veteran shark wouldn't harm a fly but Dustin knew that into the future to be a false assumption well at least Dustin knew he was safe.

"Well pretty good, I've been seeing more and more Neuroseekers lately however, I'm think about getting my own team together and searching for them as well would that be a bad idea?" Octavian asked as well, answering a question with a question. Dustin looked at the neck of the shark dressed in a camo shirt and sweat pants, around his neck the glowing blue necklace, like a pearl pulled out of the water.

"Oh well do what you want, most of the city seems to think you gone AWOL anyway, I won't tell anyone about the perception filter." Dustin said as he looked around, no one was picking them up even as parents with children and teenagers on skateboards walked by, so that was a successful illusion.

"No worries from me either, I enjoy the peace of it all. Still I feel like I have more to contribute, more puzzle pieces to fill in yet." As the military shark spoke, his words exiting his sharp toothed mouth, Dustin felt shivers going up his back, how right Octavian would be about himself.

"Oh well don't get ahead of yourself but I do think you do something. Keep a journal of events, I am expecting an event where your testimony will be needed and I think it is always good to keep a journal." Dustin spoke, reaching into his bag and from it pulled out a leather covered book, encased on it the current year and a lock.

"Oh well that's interesting but I will do that for you." Octavian added as he looked at the book and grabbed it out of Dustin's hand, this would be the book that would start it all. And on the last page was the prophesy. Dustin hoped that Octavian wouldn't find that until the last day of the year and he added a preset of instructions.

"They're these legacy books, the Library is giving them out in celebration of their rebuilding and supposedly these things will outlast you, you're supposed to tell your story so that it will live on just like the building." Dustin with a sense of urgency told Octavian hoping his words would live on inside the shark, surely Octavian would tell others of the Outsider's story. Dustin still shivered knowing that with the proper care the book he just handed Octavian would start a massive billion-year collection of information from the whole world, all so the shark could remember, it was quite the noble task.

"Yeah I'll do that sounds interesting, I think I'll do it." Octavian spoke with gusto in his voice and took the book that seemingly sealed his faith. And like that the necklace glowed blue, in saving the Outsiders and giving himself the answer to the gargoyle puzzle, Dustin signed the contract with his blood and signed Octavian over to the devil and his heart sunk. "Hey don't look down, we can all keep these books and on our death beds we'll share stories to our ancestors."

"Yeah, we will, won't we." Dustin noted, knowing that for the shark that would never come, he felt like a dick for condemning the man to eternal life but he knew that surely out of anyone on the Earth Octavian would have served the fullest and largest life out of anyone and that was worth it in his own sense. "So then I've got to go now, other Outsider stuff at hand and what not."

"Oh, well then I'll keep that journal for you and maybe the next time we meet we can share what we've accumulated." Octavian said and as Dustin stood up leaving his backpack filled with other legacy books, he waved bye to Octavian and walked away, but one more thing, if he was going to do this he would go all the way. The shark paused and looked back towards Octavian.

"You know that is a nice necklace, I like it a lot you should wear it way more often now." And with those words Dustin truly rolled up the contact and handed it back to Twilight, it was the same necklace that gave him his powers and it would be the same that gave Octavian's, Dustin didn't even know if Octavian discovered his immortality yet but surely he would any day with the upcoming craziness.

And walking into the back alley, where Elias waited for him Dustin pondered over his thoughts. That was the necklace that gave him and Steven his powers and that thought radiated throughout his mind, affecting everything and then like clockwork Dustin put together what that meant.

"Oh god Elias, I'm a Kagen aren't I?" Dustin asked as he reached down to his chest, he didn't have two hearts but he realized that his powers did change him as well. Elias giggled a bit as they walked through the dark alley, the shark seemingly having a last minute identity crisis.

"Well I wouldn't say full Kagen but you definitely have some Kagen DNA inside of you and I'm going to say it too early to make that joke but it will never be too late to make it." Elias giggling, hiding his sadness and trying to find some happiness in his new life. Breathing carefully Dustin walked forward, knowing that this was life now and soon afterwards everything would change.

"What will everyone thing of me after this?" Elias asked as he walked through the alley, the war in his eyes showed for a second and Dustin looked at him. He knew that both of them surely were running out of time and soon their clock would stop and soon they would be out of time.

...

It was a different time for New York, gone were the days of the Outsiders. They no longer handled Supervillians, or much any longer, now dealt with their own problems trying to stop the Neuroseekers. The moral and ethical reasoning of having young teenagers, barely out of high school handle such problems had caught up to them and they were in a web of legal mumbo jumbo and thus had been trapped.

And it was decided only thirty years ago to switch funding to superheroes, the Superbeasts and the Environmental Bunch; fighting for control of New York. Either way as it was mutants appeared, mutated DNA swarming the body and taking over the brain getting confused and the body taking over and attacking everything.

Today the Outsiders still exist, protecting those who need it and are willing to pay, those who need help but still protect the city from the threats that scurry underground in a massive tunnel system of barely functional sewers and water ways. The Outsider barely surviving and scrapping their funding from those who believe they are slowly dying off. Unlike good shampoo only a few good people thought enough of them that were worth it and some kept them alive and floating.

As it would be the Neuroseekers, a group formed by the acquisition of the Deathseekers and it would be with that their enigmatic leader they would establish dominance in the New York Underground, in both terms of the word, now with an army of a hundred thousand and their leader, once a revered Outsider and their general, ready to burn the city at a snap of a pipe, stood waiting under Riker's Island for a signal to return to the limelight.

...

And where the story started, with discussions of units of beauty, proper food and traffic management as well as the certain ego of a certain group of Superbeasts, it had all taken a turn for the worse. Dustin had sleepless nights wondering where it all had gone wrong, where did it all go silly, was it when Ronan left, or when Elias joined, when they were sent to the middle of the Earth? The future, Dwight's death, all of it turning points for them, so many points where the world just decided to smash the status quo and Dustin had the feeling that it was going to do it once again.

Fear of being found by Ronan meant he slept in the base now, they were still protected there, and Dustin in his sleep nights on a comfy chair or a table often wondered if he could make it all change, if with a switch of a button he could send himself back and change where it all went wrong. But then he went back to sleep and he dismissed such silly thoughts, changing the past would be far too easy and the universe would never allow such a destructive action.

...

"Hello Tom Eccleston here and today we have a special story; such as the Outsiders, are they really worth the high price that we pay for them." As the man's voice came out of television, Dustin shocked himself when he looked at the television. Suddenly it was revealed as the camera shifted and Tom Eccleston was standing in the middle of the street.

"Oh god, Elias over here now!" Dustin exclaimed as he looked around, looking at the camera and where it was pointed they could only be in one place and Dustin knew the reporter was in a bad place. Backing up Dustin looked around as walking over to the window, saw Eccleston stand outside the building with a look of intrigue on his face.

"Now then for all this city has been through these Outsiders have placed themselves above all others, never caring about anyone else and putting their lives above anyone else and allowing my field reporter Sally Sparrow to die her horrible death due to the Neuroseekers invasion." Eccleston savored his words and turned his camera man around, behind him a group of a thousand people stood some with pitchforks in their hand.

"Now then you might be wondering how we discovered the Outsider base but when we realized that the Outsiders have a penchant for sewers it only became natural that like a water treatment plant it would all converge here." Eccleston announced as the people started to march. Eccleston seemingly was out of his mind, but it was happening Dustin saw the crowd of people started to march, this was bad.

"Oh, maybe the sewers were a bad design choice but in reality maybe we can keep them out we do have a steel door." Looking over to the entrance of the base, Elias realized that he destroyed the door their last way of defense. "Ok well plastic wrap won't hold them but maybe they don't even know where the door is, so if we just stay quiet then we'll be safe."

"Come on outside Outsiders, or are you too afraid to face the man whose daughter you've dammed!"

Elias sunk to the ground, sucking into the air around him and holding his breath as suddenly he realized who was outside. Owen Darren standing in front of the crowd. Sinking to the ground, Elias realized something and knew he couldn't, he just couldn't in this case.

"We have to go outside Dustin surely this will end badly but we need to confront these people and their sins maybe they will allow us to escape and complete our mission." Elias said standing up and moving towards the plastic wrap door, standing in front of it and looking out through its altered perception of the world he knew this was the city he had created.

"Come on we have to go." Elias added defeated as he walked forward and grabbed a hold of the plastic wrap. And like magic pulled it away, as it ripped away to the ground, the illusion was completely defeated. The entire building was revealed and Elias put on his nice face, maybe he could win them over with compassion.

"Well then city you have wanted to talk to us. You might say that everything we've done has pushed the city down the hole but I see everything else from a different perspective and right now we are preparing for a war, a hundred thousand Neuroseekers are coming." Elias tried to explain himself as he walked out towards the crowd, Dustin standing behind him standing still and quiet.

"Yeah, like we'll believe that bullshit. You will say anything to ensure your survival and that sounds a hundred percent bullshit." Owen said standing up and looking at the Outsiders as he riled up his crowd. They cheered for him and that was when Elias knew that the city had turned against him. "So just give up Outsiders and turn yourselves in because anything anyone throws at us will be countered by us, we will avenge Sally and we will avenge my daughter."

"Fine then come and get us." Elias challenged as he backed up, the crowd advanced and Owen walked forward. And then the crowd paused, a mass of cell phone signals all blasting off at the same time rang through the crowd and they all stopped in their place, Elias stopped at least knowing that if one thing about New York was that it would always they looking down at its phone.

"Oh that is not good." Dustin reacted as he looked down at his phone and saw the text on screen, Outsider personal information file, and looking down at the crowd, Dustin quickly realized that everyone's person information had been transmitted through the city. The Outsider file give out, and surely that would have only one connotation that these people could assume.

"So then you have our personal information as well, that is just great." Eccleston said as he looked down at his phone and seemingly that only angered the crowd even further. Elias uncomfortably laughed a bit and backed into the building, realizing that confronting the crowd might have not be the best choice.

"Now then settle down we're all nice and reasonable Americans and maybe we can come to some sort of nonviolent solution." Elias said as he raised his arms and then suddenly a gunshot flew past him. And the crowd started to advance. "Ok fuck that!"

"They're crazy." Dustin said as he looked at the plastic wrap and knew that it wasn't going to do much. And then as the crowd invaded the base, Dustin knew that they were trapped, not by their enemies but the people they had to protect, the angry mob smiled but Eccleston and Darren were both missing from the crowd, looking around the people started to smash the computers and all the items around as sparks flew around.

"Carry them to the roof!" A person yelled from the back of the crowd and then as Dustin backed up against the wall he was grabbed at and his feet pulled out from under him. Someone grabbed his legs, but not before his head was slammed against the wall and he was pulled into the air a group of people carrying him above.

"We won't fight you have you all gone mad!" Dustin cried out as he grabbed and put in the air, he was trapped and people started to carry him. Walking him through the crowd and carrying him above, Dustin looked around and knew that they were trapped.

And as they grabbed him, they pulled him to the secondary set of steps and the crowd undiscriminatorily stuck his head against the metal roof. Elias was behind him and they were pulled up and pass the second floor of the base and as the group in front of them opened the door, natural light flowed in. Dustin didn't fight back and was pulled out onto the roof.

"Don't do this, you don't know what you're up against the city will burn if you kill us." Elias yelled out but no one would listen to them, when it was most important the city final turned its back against the Outsider and looking forward, on a metal railing hanging over the roof patio, three nooses were hung and it was obvious what they were being used for.

"Ok, enough of this." Dustin pulled his hand out and then pulled himself away from the crowd. Jumping out of the grip of people, he grabbed onto the second level of the roof patio and pulled himself out. Elias soon followed and the crowd scratched at them. Dustin pulled away but they were surrounded.

"Get down here Outsiders, you are surrounded and you are dead, so come and accept your faith!" Owen commanded as he appeared in the crowd and next to Eccleston the two of them stood with command over the murderous riot. Looking around Dustin knew there was no way out of here, he was trapped.

"One way out, a portal between the patio and the ground if we do it right we've disappear out of their eyes and they won't see us. I knew it be useful." Elias said as he grabbed Dustin's arm and pulled him away from the metal rail with their death instead he went towards the edge. And then Elias nodded and saying nothing the two stood on the edge, both knew what it looked like the Outsiders were doing. And then the ground shook, no one noticed.

"Come down Outsiders let you have a slightly less embarrassing death." And then as fire blasted out of the sky and into Manhattan, Elias and Dustin jumped and put their faith into one portal all the while putting their faith into a portal. The Outsiders fell down and let gravity take them. And like that New York was enveloped in fire as Inferno released all his oil onto the city.
