Story Description: An argument threatens to break the bond between RuSturak and Vrelgor.

** ***Dragon's Path 30: Mates*****

The colder winds of late evening were a blessed relief. Vrelgor found a nice place in the gardens to spend his time. After his recent failure, the courage to interact with another dragon -even RuSturak- became fray, just like the blades of grass sprouting in the narrow spaces between his toes.

The blue dragon curled his claws. A roar came. One that he knew too well. His gaze ventured towards the tower, whatever bit he could see with the inner wall and its crystal-flame towers blocking his view. RuSturak and the Karuna were inside somewhere, probably frolicking like two silly hatchlings. The coming growls certainly hinted at such.

"Grrr," Vrelgor rumbled silently. Just thinking about his mate's weakness hardened him like the arid sand of the desert. What was that female to him? Why was he so interested in her? Why?!

A dark thought crept its way along Vrelgor's claws, running along his stiff limbs until it remained trapped between his clenched jaws like the rest of his growl. Karuna was his mate. RuSturak had been lying all along. The times they spent in the cave, all that talk about brothers and first times, even his service to the Herald...it was all an elaborate lie to get him here, together with a band of lawless dragons whose only worries were the stashing of water and worm meat.

Vrelgor placed his head on his paws. Better sleep than think such dark thoughts.

When he woke up, the sky became as dark as his scales. Whatever functional crystals remained in the towers blazed in the darkness, spires of living flame that provided sight to the dozens of drakes still flying in and out of the desert.

Their wings annoyed him. Their growls angered him. Even their mere smell curled Vrelgor's claws deeper into the humid soil.

The blue dragon shuffled on four tired paws, walked towards the inner wall, then leaped lazily into the starry sky. A few dragons flocked around him. He ignored them, and after a few vain attempts at coaxing out his intents, they returned to their verdant garden.

Vrelgor found the vastness of the desert quite soothing. There were no boisterous birds here. No pestering insects to crawl into his nostrils, no yowling beasts, and especially no dragons. He beat his wings for as long as he could, and when his joints started to ache, Vrelgor found the perfect place to rest his weary muscles.

Grains of sand scattered around his paws when he landed. The dragon shuffled along the uneven ground, cracking the dead husks of whatever vegetation grew inside this arid oasis. From afar, it bore the shape of an avian's nest, hollow and weird. Right now, Vrelgor saw it more as a reflection of his own feelings, dry, desolate, robbed of the precious life they sheltered within their bosom. The dragon gathered the dry reeds with the help of his tail. Once he formed a comfortable pile, Vrelgor laid on top of them, just like an oversized, scaly bird, breathing in the scent of nothingness and staring into the distance until his eyes grew too heavy to remain open.

Warmth slid around his head. Not the desert's. It made no sense during the night. And it was also moist. Unreasonably so.

Vrelgor blinked his eyes open to a golden scaly surface. Scales. And below them, rows of sharp, snowy teeth. The thing that slid around his snout was a slimy green tongue he knew too well by now, and the source of the warmth a dragon's moist breath.

"Ru...RuSturak," the blue dragon said uncertainly.

"It is me, young one," the tongue retreated back into the maw, only to emerge again, this time along the back of the young blue's serpentine neck.

Vrelgor rumbled with delight. In his tired state, his instincts were easily tricked by another dragon's touch. The feeling of comfort and safety tempted him for at least a couple of strokes. Then that delightful tongue slid along his shoulder, where it descended lower, and lower, passing between his fingers.

Vrelgor clenched his paw. He wanted to trap RuSturak between his claws, but the gold dragon escaped at the last possible moment, giving out a short, confused growl.

"Go away."

"Grr...grarr?" RuSturak tilted his head, and Vrelgor's lips wrinkled with irritation to expose his own set of menacing teeth.

"First you lied to me, then you abandoned me like humans do with their slaves. I want you gone, RuSturak. Fly back to the tower. Fly back to her."

"Young one...what...what is this about?" the bronze dragon's growl faltered, heavy with concern. Inside his emerald eyes brew more than confusion. There was regret. Maybe even...shame. "Why do you want me gone when I just found you? No dragon knew where you flew. If you only knew how concerned I was for your safety-"

"Stop lying to me!" Vrelgor growled, loud enough to put a stop to that stream of pitiful apologies. "I know what lurks beneath your scales! I've seen it, back in that tower. The way you touched her scales, licked her paws, sniffed her cunt... we used to do that together! You never groomed my paws like you did with her. Why? Why?!" the blue dragon tightened his jaws as the pain swirling inside his tensing muscles grew.

"She's just an old friend. By all the living flames of this world, you are the last dragon I'd lie to."

"I don't believe any of that," Vrelgor swiped his tail around, hurling a storm of sands and dead reeds at RuSturak. He shielded himself with a wing, enough to give Vrelgor ample time to crouch into a fighting pose. "She's more than a friend, isn't she? She's your mate!"

"No, dear blue," RuSturak pulled his wing away to stare at Vrelgor with a pair of green, sincere eyes. "You are right. She is not an ordinary friend. I knew nothing of my parents after I flew their cave. Years passed by without a single care in the world. I flew with kobolds, hunted with humans, mated with dragons of all colors...until my wings took me to this tower."

"To her," Vrelgor spat that word as if it was pure poison.

"To my sister," RuSturak said.

Vrelgor almost choked on his own saliva when he heard that. He licked the insides of his maw, blinking, curling his claws into the sand, fluttering his wings to make sure this wasn't some weird dream. "Your...she's...no. No, she can't be. Your parents are dead. Dahrzin told me everything. He was the one to-"

"Bring me to my other parents, yes. They are both well, alive, and still very eager to expand their nest."

Vrelgor still shook his head in dismay. "But she's bigger than you!"

"She is the older sibling, my dear blue. My parents hatched a good number of hatchlings before they raised me. Now, can I continue what I started?"

Even if he wanted to, Vrelgor was too stunned to growl out a proper reply. He let RuSturak embrace him with his wing, lick his neck, do what a proper mate would do in his situation. Oh, it felt good to be in his embrace again...yet the shock of this simple, vital piece of information had yet to disperse from the young dragon's mind.

"You are unnecessarily tense. Lay on your side. Let me tend to you like I did with my sister."

Vrelgor exposed himself completely, staring at the twinkling stars while RuSturak's tongue rolled towards his flanks. The saliva he left behind caught the wind, adding to the increasing coldness that still fettered Vrelgor's limbs. He couldn't fully relax. Not even with RuSturak wrapping his tongue around his toes. His nibbles were rather annoying, insisting on the claws a great deal.

"Stop."

"Mrrr?"

"I don't want my paws licked. Find something else to put your tongue on." Vrelgor flapped his wings with irritation.

He did. An onrush of humid air fell upon a dragon's weakest of places, making Vrelgor's claws curl towards the pads of his paws. RuSturak sniffed insistently, drawing in scents and releasing hefty puffs of air that rolled wider than a dragon's slit ever stretched. Then, his tongue came, sending a shivering rush along the dragon's dark blue wings.

"Awwrrr," a rebellious moan escaped Vrelgor's maw. He was almost tempted to spread his legs. RuSturak licked so slowly, so carefully. Two licks had him snarl with delight, and three more inflicted him with a burst of heat that left him panting like a beast.

"I want you," the bronze dragon said with a soft, pleading voice. He sniffed again, then dabbed with the tip of his tongue at the bare flesh, delighting in the tastes of cock latched upon his tongue. "Can...can I have your seed, dear blue? Can I take you inside me?"

No reply was given. Yet RuSturak still approached, lapping gently at the blue dragon's moistening flesh.

Vrelgor grew. His flesh trembled with debilitating weakness, infuriatingly sensitive to something as warm as a dragon's tongue. RuSturak never stopped. He licked, licked, licked, then, when he noticed his efforts weren't quite enough to get the blue dragon unsheathed, he pushed through the walls of flesh, brushing around the member like a female's needy slit.

"Rrarrrr," Vrelgor hissed with bitter need as his slit moistened against his will.

Was this how she felt? Trembling with a mixture of instinctual need and apprehension? Tense like a predator ready to latch upon its prey? His mate? A deep, seething anger dispersed through Vrelgor's body. RuSturak was his. His alone! Sister or not, Karuna had no right to spread her legs and claim him!

When he approached for another tongue kiss, Vrelgor clamped his toes around that offending snout, then kicked it back so hard, even a dragon like RuSturak stumbled like a stunted hatchling.

"Arrrrhhh!" he snarled as coarse sand embraced the tip of his emerging cock. He quickly pushed his head under an upraised flank, licking with desperation at his retreating shaft.

Vrelgor liked that. As weird as it felt, he enjoyed inflicting a measure of pain upon the dragon that betrayed him.

"Blood ties do not erase what you've done, my mate. You chose her over me."

"I wanted you both!"

"How?" Vrelgor pressed on. "How exactly have you tried having us both? By feasting on her gender in front of me? Cuddling her while I watched? Or by staying there like a petrified egg when she snarled and insulted me? I spilled my seed in her tower only because her scent did what my own mate couldn't!"

RuSturak still couldn't understand. He exposed his belly, flared his wings, invited Vrelgor to join him only like a dragon could.

Yet the blue dragon stood there, fettered by the chilling embrace of his unreasonable hatred. "She's not the only one that grieved me. Karuna's words pierced deeper than claws. I wanted to prove myself, to show these dragons I am just as capable as you are."

"You are. If only-"

"I'm not!" Vrelgor snapped. "I'm still a hatchling unable to even bring water back to the tower. The group I went with promised to help me...but it was all lies, RuSturak. The males flew back to the tower, leaving me alone with their female. She...she got under my scales, then took me inside her. I never..." Vrelgor's lips trembled with weakness. "Never felt such filling sensation as a female's embrace in my life. Her flesh was warmer than your tongue, wetter, and the way she mated me..."

"She...mated you?"

Vrelgor dipped his head in shame. "I was too weak to even get inside her. She got on top of me while I was down, then...it happened. Her tongue licking my neck, her teeth grazing my scales, her flesh enveloping me...I never felt so weak. Too helpless to even roar properly."

"Did...did you..."

That was the painful part. Vrelgor turned his head away, unable to look at RuSturak. "She jumped off just when I reached my peak. She never wanted me. It was all an amusing ploy so they could see how a dragon beyond the sand mates," Vrelgor growled bitterly. "I hate them. All of them. The males who licked her cunt, the female that wasted my seed, and your sister, who comes up with ridiculous tasks for anyone who isn't her kin!"

Panting breaths left his maw. With his fire gone, all that was left were the shivers climbing along his legs. Vrelgor saw RuSturak crawl closer, and did nothing to stop the bronze dragon from nuzzling into his neck or lapping around his snout.

"Gr...graaaarrr..." Vrelgor loosened a mellow rumble. He didn't want to be angry anymore. What was coldness compared to the warmth of a tongue? What was anger against the love of another dragon? With his eyes closed, Vrelgor allowed RuSturak to lick any part of him he wanted, even that place between his legs, which glistened with fresh lubrication.

"Lay down," RuSturak gently pushed his wing onto the blue dragon's back. "I may not taste your seed, but I can still keep you warm."

Vrelgor did just that. He cuddled against RuSturak, placing his head onto one of his forepaws.

"You are precious to me, my dear blue. I want you to know that no matter what creature gets between us, be it dragon, human, kobold or otherwise, I will always be here for you."

"Words..." Vrelgor hissed lazily.

"I can speak more, yes, but I prefer to let my licks talk in my stead."

Vrelgor uttered no complaints, allowing his thoughts to slide along that calming tongue until they drifted into a sea of unfettered warmth.

He didn't know if he slept, released his essence, or both. Vrelgor opened his eyes, drew in the musk-laden scent into his nostrils, then looked under his wing. His member was throbbing viciously, an uncaged beast of glistening flesh that felt stiffer than the ground beneath his paws.

"I was tempted to finish you off," RuSturak poked his head in to dash his tongue between Vrelgor's twitching nostrils. "Don't breathe too quickly, else your instincts might just finish what I started."

The young dragon stared for a moment. "I felt your tongue along my wings, my paws, my tail...why avoid the only place you really wanted?"

"Because you were asleep. You gave me permission to cleanse your scales, but to liberate your seed...that might have taken things too far." RuSturak turned his horned head away from the blue's bobbing cock. The scents were clearly too enticing for him. The bronze dragon's green member emerged halfway through, pelting the sands with steady drops of oily essence.

"Too far?" Vrelgor nudged his friend's neck. "You are one of the best dragons I know, RuSturak. You're my mate! I...I snapped at you. Even growled. I...I wanted to do more than that, but now I realize how wrong I was to let anger cloud my judgment. I'm not my brother to punish you for..."

"Yes?" RuSturak perked his head.

Vrelgor just looked towards the sky. "I was wrong to say that too. My brother...he's changing, RuSturak. Or trying to. The last time I've been with him, he..."

RuSturak noticed the blue dragon's apprehension. His snout gently slid along Vrelgor's neck, calm like the waves of a scaly, very warm kind of sea. "Some things you can keep for yourself, dear blue."

"But you're my mate..."

"Even mates keep secrets from each other."

"Not me," Vrelgor stated as he stared into his mate's verdant eyes. "I want to trust you. To love you with all I have."

"And I wish just the same."

The blue dragon jerked back. In his aroused state, every touch, no matter how fickle, could set his great load aflame.

"Krelgor took me inside. Inside his maw, I mean..." Vrelgor's moist tongue lashed along his lips as he recalled how he trembled when his brother's tongue slid along his bare member. "He licked me a couple of times to get my scent. I tensed. My brother had never been gentle with me. Not until then, when he wrapped around me like a...like..." Vrelgor growled softly as his member squirted a dash of pre-seed. "It was wet. Warm. Almost like the female I mated at the oasis, but unlike her, he wanted me."

"You released quickly."

Vrelgor dipped his head. "Far quicker than I intended to. I knew it was wrong. That I shouldn't stain my brother's maw with my seed...and that made it feel all the better. He swallowed my essence, RuSturak. Suckled it down to the very last drop, and...I think he liked it. He really did his best to pleasure me."

"As any dragon should. You have a very tasty seed, if I may say so myself."

But to Vrelgor, that memory held a certain degree of warmth that couldn't be properly explained. To share himself with his brother after so many months of strife, to feel his caring tongue cleansing his slit with such precision, to even put his member so close to his teeth and remain unharmed...

Vrelgor got onto his fours with a sharp growl. "We've wasted enough time. The sky awaits us. My brother needs us!"

RuSturak's head dived down. He stared at a certain spot, just insistently enough to make Vrelgor embarrassed.

"We can't."

"Are you going to fly unsheathed, my dear blue? You do remember how uncomfortable that feels I hope."

"More uncomfortable than a human prison?"

Even RuSturak couldn't argue with that. With a lazy growl, the bronze dragon spread his wings. "Just let me take one more look to boost my spirits. There's a long flight ahead of us, and-"

Vrelgor lifted his hind leg. He was lucky enough to squirt another string of pre-seed just at the right moment, for RuSturak's lips stretched from one end of his snout to the other. "You wicked, silly hatchling... When we land, I will have that inside me."

Yet the cold winds had other plans for them. Sensitive flesh had no place in the high skies. Vrelgor's erection subsided within moments. It was as uncomfortable as RuSturak said, but Vrelgor knew his brother had been through worse. If Krelgor could endure whatever things the humans did to him, so he could stand against a bit of wind.
