Unexpected Rescue
#3 of Galactic Memory
And here is a new series of mine, not sure exactly how well I will develop it like my other series, but we shall see. Hopefully you all like it. And also, please use the terminology and species list journals for references throughout the story.
It was in the year 2174 that planet Earth and the human race made its first public contact with an alien race, and truly learned it was not alone in the universe. Contact was established at the International Space Station and was streamed across the world as the astronauts onboard were met with the furry forms of the Tigro, a species of humanoid tigers-like creatures with blue fur and green stripes. Given a universal translator by their guests, the astronauts translated what the feline race had to share with the public. They learned that there were hundreds of habitable planets throughout the galaxy, with many like the tigro being friendly and welcoming to other advanced species across space.
In only a dozen or so years after their first contact with a sentient alien species, most of humanity had absorbed their technology and knowledge, only a small portion being against associating with the alien races. Through their new level of technology and alien assistance, they began to not only travel out into the previously vast unknown, but also start to reverse what damage their history had done to Earth and its species. And finally, hundreds of years later, humans and all other species across the galaxy have spread to the furthest reaches of the Milky Way as their collective technologies continued to evolve. In order to protect the stars and everyone across space, the numerous alien races came together to construct an agency with this sole purpose in mind, the Galactic Enforcers.
Now, in the year GS3185, approximately one thousand years since the first contact with Earth, something strange seems to be brewing over the horizon...
~ * ~ * ~ * ~
A siren blared loudly and red light bathed the halls and stores of the mall as the terrorists scrambled to-and-fro, some running, others shooting with their laser pistols at the one chasing them. The group of humanoid squirrel-like aliens, the Nektuica, were pirates that had flown in with their ship and landed on the mall to raid it, disregarding the fleeing crowds as they plundered store after store for stuff to sell.
Their ship was nearly full before the first ear-piercing stream rang through the entire complex, drawing all of their attention as they saw one of their own flying from one end of the lobby to the other, landing in a groaning heap before falling unconscious. One moment they were having one of their greatest plunders ever, but now...
"Fuck! What's one of those damn GE's doing here?"
"Who cares! Just keep shooting!"
"But we're not hurting him boss, we can't stop him."
"What do you mean you ain't hurting him? There's a dozen of you armed down ther-"
"It's a nordra- AAAGHHH!"
The communication line went dead soon after the cry erupted from the other end, the scream echoing in the pirate captain's mind as a chill ran through his body at what he just heard.
A... a nordra? T-that's impossible! There's only a handful of those tribal bastards in the entire GE. If one of those are here... fuck, I was hoping to save that for later.

Hahhh, just when I thought we could relax and have a nice shopping trip after months without a good break, the dragon-like male thought to himself with a sigh, tossing the last of the armed nektuica off to the side as he strolled past body after body laying prone on the ground, each and every one of them unconscious after facing him. His long olive-green mane and the back flap of his loincloth flowing behind him as he walked further into the mall, scaling floor after floor as he looked for any pirate trying to hide and ambush him.
The draconic figure grunted as he rolled his shoulders, flexing each of his red-scaled four arms one-by-one as he searched around, roaming through most of the two-storey mall on his way towards the ship on the roof. He was just passing by one of the aquatic tanks when something caught his eye, movement from the walkway on the other side, like whatever it was hurriedly slipped behind some of the coral inside of it in order to hide itself. The large male growled audibly for a few seconds at the attempt, before he turned around took off running, heading for the bridge he passed to cross over and catch whatever was on the other side.
He had crossed the bridge and was just turning the corner before a voice called out to him.
"Don't come any closer red, or I'll finish this kid off."
The statement made the draconic figure freeze as he finished rounding the corner, looking straight ahead to find another of the pirates, although slightly larger in size, holding someone against him with his arm around their night. He glared and growled lowly, but stayed put, not wanting to risk the safety of the hostage. Taking a closer look, he realized that the hostage was an aquroc, a race of fish-like humanoids, and its acture suit had a crack in it, teal green water trickling out and down its body. He knew that while the older, bulkier model the aquroc had on could hold more water in it, it was losing water quickly, and the hostage was already starting to wheeze from being unable to breathe properly.
"Hahaha, see I told you these do-gooders wouldn't make a move while we had someone as a hostage! Even those primitive nordras know they'd be punished if they get a civilian killed."
"You sure did boss. Hey, does he have a mark on him? Wouldn't want to miss out on some extra credits and rep by blowing him up too soon right boss?"
Giving only a brief look at the approaching pirate, armed with what looked like a rocket launcher, he took a closer look at who he believed to be the captain and noticed that one of the nektuica's rings had the nexus emblem on it, while the others unsurprisingly were covered in swords and skulls like any pirate would be associated with. What really surprised him, however, was that the captain had a hologazer too, most likely stolen from a past victim or store.
"Heh, don't worry Newas, I certainly won't miss out on rubbing this in everyone... else's... f-faces..."
The mammal's stammering made him smirk as he imagined the gazer's scanner results after it recognized who he was, knowing that even the simple information box a civilian model showed would still be enough to scare the pirates.
Name : Zerua Sunburst
Species : Soldra
Gender : Male
Occupation : Galactic Enforcers
"A... a s-s-soldra?!"
Correct, captain.
The voice echoed through the pirates and hostage's minds, making them all shiver before the former two started to shake lightly in fear, realizing what a mistake they had made at choosing to face the one that screwed up their operation instead of fleeing outright.
It seems you chose your timing poor, cause you decided to interrupt my little vacation with my partner. So, I'm afraid we'll have to hurry this along if you don't mind.
Zerua's calm, indifferent demeanor, alongside the reputation of soldras made their trembling get even stronger, the captain's grip on his hostage actually going slack and letting the barely conscious aquroc collapse. Before the two could even attempt to try and get their wits back together again, the draconic soldra raised his left arm up, his fingers outstretched and pointed at the standing duo. Then, his "voice" rang out again through the pirates' minds.
Join the rest of your crew in dreamland why don't you.
And with that, he swiveled his wrist down and then to the right, before simply sweeping his arm to the side...
~ * ~ * ~ * ~
Hang on kid, I'll get you up and running in a second.
Zerua knelt down beside the prone aquatic alien, holding his upper body up in his left arms as he waved his upper right one over the puddle that had been growing underneath him, his telekinetic powers slowly lifting the spilled water from the floor and pouring it back into the suit through the crack on its glass faceplate. As he slowly filled the suit back up, the soldra took the take to look over the alien in his grasp.
The aquroc was certainly male, although certainly one of the slimmest ones he'd ever seen, having a body that just screamed of a simple life with only enough activity to keep in shape. From the parts of the suit that showed his body, he resembled a tiger shark covered by grey skin-like scales with blue scales forming stripes across his body and limbs.
Heh, if he were as built as I was, he'd probably be pretty fierce-looking, but as he is, he actually looks pretty cute.
As Zerua thought about how the smaller male looked, the aquroc gave a gasp as the water filled past his gills again, letting him breathe properly again. He watched as the guy gulped deep lungfuls of water quickly, then slowly turned to look up at him, his eyes slowly regaining their black color as his mind started to get less fuzzy from being unable to breathe. Zerua smiled lightly down at the male as he continued to pull all of the water back into the suit.
Now that you're able to breathe again and more conscious, mind if I ask why you're here of all places kid? I mean, I can understand getting scared and hiding during the pirate raiding, but what's an aquroc teen doing so far from any of the water worlds?
"I... I was just stopping by to... to get some supplies before I went home... I was just gonna go back for the break between semesters. I've been over on Yutri a sector over for school."
Yutri? If you were over there for school, does that mean you were going to Necatru Academy?
"Y-yeah. I'm going there for astrophysics, I've always found how different planets and systems can be so fascinating... just didn't know going to school for it could nearly get me suffocated though."
Don't worry kid, they won't bother anyone again for a while I think.
Zerua spoke again in his head, using his last, free hand to point over to their side, letting the young aquroc see what had happened to his assailants. Both the captain and his lackey were drape over one another against the wall, clearly knocked out cold from being thrown against it by a telekinetic push, while the rocket launcher the latter had floated in the air, a small glow surrounding it.
"W-wow. I didn't think it was true, but the soldras really do have telekinetic and telepathic powers huh? That's amazing."
We like to call it the power of starlight, and using it is no different to us as breathing underwater is for you... what's your name aquroc?
Even as he asked the question between their minds, Zerua finished pooling all of the water back into the teen's suit and pressed his palm against the broken glass, using his powers to mend the glass back together before pulling the aquroc back to his feet again.
"I-it's Calga'oru. Calga'oru Xuakis, but most call me Cal, and you are?"
The name's Zerua, and as you could guess I'm with the Galactic Enforcers. Since I rescued you and my little patchwork won't last if you get away from me, I guess my partner and I will help you get home.
"Really? You'd do that for me?"
All part of the job Cal, I can't leave a guy that just got assaulted alone after all.
Zerua chuckled to himself as he stared down at the aquroc staring back at him in surprise. He nodded to reaffirm what he said, before waving with both of his left arms to the side, drawing the floating launcher towards him and lifting the unconscious duo as well. Walking side-by-side, the two headed back towards the main lobby where the soldra subdued most of the nektuica earlier. As they descended the stairs back to the first floor, Zerua could see the local valiose police detaining and carrying off the group he knocked out before, the place a hive of activity as they worked to clean up the weapons and debris left in the wake of the raid.
He spotted his partner off to the side, the little ocelot-like leirna already heading for him, still dressed in his casual shirt and shorts, but now wearing his nexus collar and military hologazer. The smaller male practically jumped on him as their met, those short little arms barely wrapping around his waist as he hugged him tightly, only to let go and hit him in the stomach, harmlessly though it was.
"Stop always going off into danger without thinking like that, Z! I know you are strong but still, at least let me support you even on a vacation."
If we had had the time to go and get your rifle from the ship, then maybe. But we don't have that kind of luxury with raids Ren, so I would have rather left you behind to get the police like you did.
"That still doesn't give you the right to rush in while I'm looking the other way! Do you know how scared I get every time you do something like this? I mean, yes, going back to the Sentinel would have taken a while, but I could have easily gone an- oh prrrrrr..."
Zerua chuckled as he reached over and started scratching behind the feline's ear, instantly making the short male purr in the middle of his speech, his eyes and body going a bit slack from the act. The soldra turned to look at the aquroc beside him, smirking in amusement at his slightly confused expression, gesturing with a nod of his head towards the leirna before them.
He can be load and overreact at times, but he always means well. But, for the times he gets too into it, he's got this little weakness here. Scratch to the ear and he goes limp, plus he'll forget about what he was just talking about, hehe. Gets me out of a lot of these lectures, thankfully. But that can be something to discuss more on later, for now we gotta get you home.
The mental conversation got the attention of the zoned-out feline, making him look to the side and see the aquroc next to them, and just as Zerua had said, the short male, even shorter than the teenaged fish, instantly forgot about lecturing the soldra and turned his attention fully on the stranger.
"Oh! Who is this? What's an aquroc doing way out here? ... and is that a rocket launcher behind you Z?"
~ * ~ * ~ * ~
After sharing how Zerua rescued Cal to Ren and handed the last of the pirates and equipment, the trio headed for the spaceport, the former listening as the other two talked amiably behind him, though to his surprised it was Cal doing most of the talking. He couldn't help but shake his head at how entranced his partner had become at listening about the classes and theories that Cal had taken at Necatru Academy over the years.
"But it's interesting how some planets can be completely water or magma like my home or Lovos, while others can be filled with part of nature at once like on Faine."
"That's what makes space travel and exploration so much fun! I was actually part of an exploration team before partnering with Z here."
"Really now?"
It's true, but his specialty is being the weapons operator. Don't let his little size fool you, he's deadly with his personal laser rifle and the Sentinel's cannon and guns. A leirna's eyesight is not to be underestimated.
"Oh, I've been meaning to ask since you mentioned it back in the mall, but is Sentinel the name of your ship?"
"Yep! It's a small thing compared to some of the other ships you've probably seen, or would see with other GE teams since they've got more people, but for just the two of us its plenty big. It's not exactly what you'd expect for officers like us, but Z here's had it for years before we met."
Despite that, he's made quite a few changes inside of it since he's been living in it. Though there's no way you can ignore that isn't a pretty impressive spaceship Cal.
Zerua looked back at the teen as he looked further ahead after hearing him say that, smirking as his jaw dropped at the sight of their ship. The spaceship was somewhat wedge-shaped, with a larger upper deck and smaller lower deck that was only half the size of the one above it. It had a wide figurehead that resembled Zerua's own head and was mostly slate grey in color with red accents along the body of the ship. Even while still approaching it, it could be clearly seen at being at least fifty meters long, and almost seventeen in width at its middle and rear. Once they reached its side, he figured the aquroc could see the ships name, Sentinel, written out in red letters by the airlock.
"Wow..."
Just wait til you see the inside.
After Zerua waved to the dock workers and stepped up to the airlock, he and Ren both smirked to each other as they moved to the sides of it, letting Cal go through first. He chuckled as he watched the younger male's face stayed slack and awestruck as he ventured into the Sentinel. To keep the aquroc from wander off, Zerua watched as Ren moved in front of him and grabbed the slightly taller teen by the shoulders, guiding him forward through the hall and then through the open doorway in front of them that lead into the mess hall, then to the right. He followed them into the crew quarters, only then realizing exactly what Ren was planning as he pushed the aquroc over toward the opposite side of the room to the left side, past the closet for the room and in front of a large tank filled with water before the two worked on getting Cal out of his suit and into the tank.
Well, looks like I was wrong on this change. Never thought we'd actually have a use for a hydro tank instead of a regular bed.
"Heh, yeah, told you it wouldn't be a waste. Always have to think of possibilities in the future. Having at least one of these would be beneficial for water-based races like Cal here, otherwise if their suits broke all we could do is put them in the shower or the healing tanks down below, and those aren't quite relaxing you know. Now, I'm off to report our new status back to base and then work with Alister on either this suit or the experimental one I was working on with him. You make sure he's settled in before we leave."
The soldra couldn't help but chuckle to himself at how commanding the feline always tried to be in these types of situations, and simply nodded his head before letting the little leirna wall past him and out the door, turning right to head back down the hall for the lift. Turning back to look at the aquroc now floating in the hydro bed, he smirked as he saw how slim he really was, especially since he was now only in a pair of boxers.
Heh, so, is there anything you'd like to ask before we leave and head back to your planet?
"Um, just one right now I suppose. Is Alister another person on the crew? Are we gonna wait for them to come back?"
Actua-
"Actually, I am the onboard artificial intelligence of the Sentinel, so I am technically always on the ship. As Ren said before, I will be working on your suit once he brings it down into the weapons compartment to be looked at."
The slight jerk and confused searching around amused Zerua as he watched the smaller male in his bed, before he nodded at what Alister said and spoke to get Cal's attention again.
That would be Alister, the computer of our ship and the one we rely on most for communications and navigations, just the two of us would be hard-pressed to get everything done of course. Alister helps take a good bit of the load off of working on the ship and helps with making sure everything runs smoothly and warns of any issues that rise up that need to be addressed. Thanks to the fact that he was made by the Wilner Corporation that supplies AIs for all of the GE ships, he can also be talked too by someone like me that only speaks with their mind.
Cal nodded slowly as he listened to what he was saying, which made Zerua happy he was understanding it enough for the time being.
Good, now I'll head off and prep everything for takeoff. You should just relax and rest up, I'm sure the adrenaline rush you probably went through during the raid from the fright will wear off soon enough and you'll get tired. So just lay back and enjoy the ride kid.
Zerua smiled lightly down at the teen one last time as he finished speaking, before he turned around headed out of the room as well the way they came up, walking down the same hall before turning to the right and going straight for the command deck. He took a seat at one of the consoles and begin the process of prepping his ship to leave the spaceport.
Alister, begin figuring out the best path to Colus. Looks like our little vacation's ending a bit earlier than we all expected...
