"RareBlade is the leader of Team Eclipse?" Brock exclaimed. "I thought he was just a baker!" Brock had just been told by Ash and company the truth about Viver's twin brother, and he was having trouble swallowing it. "It's true," said Ash. "We just met him. You should see him, he looks almost exactly like his brother, but he's black instead of white. If you get past that, his markings are just the same." "Ash?" a familiar voice suddenly sounded behind them. Ash turned around, his eyes widening with shock. "May? Is that you? And Glaceon too! What're you doing here?" May smiled and held up two fingers. "Well, good to see you too Ash. You know, it's been too long. Haven't seen you in months. Pikachu looks great." Ash smiled. "Thanks. Hey, Glaceon doesn't look too bad either." He reached down to pet the snowy Pokémon, who murred happily. "Glaaa..." "You know, Max is here, too, and so is Misty." Ash leapt to his feet. "Misty? Cool! I guess she got an invitation, too?" "Yep. I guess our battle was a bit before yours. We've been here for a few days now." Trent grinned. "I can't wait to see Max again. Where is he, anyway?"

In another part of the compound, Captain Talion was making his rounds, checking to ensure everything was ship-shape. Being one of the senior members of Team Emerald, it was his job to ensure that everything went according to plan. So far, so good. Nothing out of the ordinary was going on, and all seemed well... "Captain Talion!" a voice sounded out of nowhere. Jolt whirled, bringing his arm around in a chop, which just narrowly missed Max's head as the boy stumbled to the ground. "Yipes! Look out! You nearly took my head off." "Apologies," Talion said, helping Max to his feet. "You startled me." "Yeah. Sorry about that, but I just wanted to ask you something. I've never seen any human-like Pokémon just strolling down streets, and I was just wondering... What did you do, you know, before becoming a part of Team Emerald? Did you have a job, a home, a family? Why did you join?" He petered off, taking a breath. "Stuff like that." Jolt sighed. "So, you want to know about my past, eh?" Max nodded enthusiastically. "Alright, but let's find somewhere to sit down. It could get long, and I don't like to talk standing up." Five minutes later, the two were sitting at a small coffee table in Talion's private quarters. Max was calmly sipping some tea that the Captain had made, while Jolt had opted for a whisky-spiced espresso. After taking a good swallow, Talion sighed and looked across at Max, his red eyes tinged with sadness. "So, you want the long or short version? And how detailed?" "I wanna know everything you're comfortable with telling me. I mean, whatever isn't too personal." Jolt exhaled deeply, eyes partially closed. "Oh, where to begin? Well, I was born in a small village in the Johto Region, one of the few places us anthros can live in relative peace. The people there keep to themselves and don't like to pry. When I was eighteen, I left and traveled to the Kanto Region. Eventually, I ran into a man named Giovanni who said I had 'talent'. At the time, I thought he was truly impressed with my skills." "Giovanni? Wait, do you mean the leader of Team Rocket?" Jolt nodded. "That's exactly who I mean. He employed me, first as a common agent, then as a more specialized operator. Due to my abilities, I rose through the ranks quickly, and ended up as one of the commandos of Team Rocket. The Kanto Elite, they called them. Thanks to Giovanni's rewards for my work, I had everything I wanted. Fancy lodging, great food, power, even girls. Turns out I wasn't the only anthro under his employ. It wasn't the best work, catching Pokémon and all, but it seemed that Team Rocket wasn't cruel to those it caught. Anyway, the benefits far outweighed the disadvantages." "So, if you had it so good, why did you give it all up?" Max asked, suddenly worried if Talion was still a member of Team Rocket, and just a spy for Giovanni. But when he saw Jolt's face fall, tears in his eyes, his doubts just melted away. Something really went wrong, he realized. "Now," Talion said, "we get to it. Not only the reason for my leaving Team Rocket, but also for my feud with Wilstar. That had to have been the worst day of my entire life, bar none." "What happened?" "Well, it all started a little over seven years ago, on a summer day a lot like this one was..."

* * *

Seven years ago... "Captain," the young recruit said, "we've got a bunch of good-looking Pokémon down there. A kid's got a few that I've never seen before, but they look quite strong. Waiting for your orders, though I suggest caution. He just whipped a pretty strong-looking trainer and his Aggron." Talion stood, brushing off his specially-made Rocket uniform. "Thank you, James. Let's get the group together and take care of this kid. We need some new Pokémon for Giovanni."

* * *

Wilstar strode down the path, chuckling to himself. Another success from Vulkross. If he could keep this up, it wouldn't be long before his Pokémon evolved into Zulkross. And then, I'll be even stronger. A team of black-and-white garbed individuals, men and women alike, suddenly leapt from the forest. Wilstar stopped and looked around, finding himself surrounded. "If you don't mind," he said, "you are in my way, and I need to get to the next Pokémon center. I have some tired Pokémon here, and I need a rest as well." "Really?" a growling voice said from behind him. "Well, I'm sorry to tell you this, kid, but that's not going to happen." Wilstar turned to see a tall being step into his line of vision. His eyes gleamed. An anthropomorphic Pokémon! I've heard of such things. I wonder if it can be caught like any other? Outwardly he said, "Really, my hairy friend, are such threats really necessary? I warn you, you don't know who you are dealing with." The Mightyena laughed. "Looks like you've got a big mouth, kid. But unless I miss my guess, you're outnumbered... and outclassed." Wilstar just chuckled. "Oh, please. You think a pathetic band of buffoons and an accident of nature like yourself is going to intimidate me? Besides, I don't see much fairness in coming at me with so many. If you're really as strong as you let on, why not prove it in a battle? One on one, Pokémon to Pokémon." Jolt faltered for the first time. This kid was really hitting below the belt, but was he right? Am I really that weak, weak enough to let someone else fight for me? "Stand down," he growled. "I'll deal with this brat myself." The Rocket grunts all took several steps back, though James hesitated. "Sir, are you sure? I saw him battle, and... he's extremely strong. What if you get hurt?" "I'll be fine," he snapped, a bit harsher than he meant. Seeing James flinch, he softened his expression. "Apologies. Thank you for your concern, but I'll be just fine." Jolt stepped forward, much to Wilstar's satisfaction. "Call your first Pokémon," he said, knowing what was going to happen next. "I have no Pokémon," Talion snarled. "I will be battling." Wilstar nodded, expecting this. Now it's time for the stakes. "Well, if we'll be battling, what will the stakes be?" Jolt grinned. "I win, all your Pokémon belong to me. Simple as that." Time to nail him, Wilstar thought triumphantly. "Fair enough. But... if I win, the same rule applies to you." Jolt's stomach suddenly sank. "But I told you... I have no Pokémon," he protested, though he knew exactly what the youth meant. "Oh, what a shame," Wilstar said patronizingly. "I guess our deal's off then. You can't barter without bringing something to the table. I'll be off then. Unless..." "Unless what?" "I now change my bet. If I win, I get... you." Jolt was shocked. "What do you mean?" "You're a Pokémon, are you not? Granted, not an ordinary one, but a Pokémon nonetheless. If I lose, you get all of my Pokémon, withholding none. But if you lose, you join my team." "That's preposterous!" James suddenly exclaimed. He stepped forward, drawing a Poké-ball from his belt. "You can battle using my Koffing." "James, that Pokémon was a gift to you. I can't take the chance. If I lose..." "If you lose with my Pokémon, then at least you'll still be free. If you don't take mine, you may end up captured like an ordinary, dumb beast." "Are you really going to listen to one of your little underlings?" Wilstar mocked. "Or worse, take him up on that offer? And do you really have the heart to risk his most prized Pokémon, just to save yourself some discomfort?" "NO!!!" Talion roared, making James step back. "I AM NO COWARD! I... I ACCEPT YOUR CHALLENGE!" Wilstar smiled. "Very well. Let's begin. Vulkross, it's time to get to work!" He tossed a Poké-ball into the air, releasing a red, bug-like Pokémon with blade-like claws. Manic green eyes glared at the Mightyena, as if the Pokémon were sizing up its next meal. James was right. It is strong. "I'll make the first move," he stated, and then leapt forward with a roar, a Shadow Ball coalescing in between his hands. It was never launched. Vulkross suddenly transformed into a blood-red blur and struck Talion in the chest with its crested head, knocking the wind clean out of him. The Mightyena was sent flying back. "Metal Claw," Wilstar said calmly, and Vulkross charged forward, claws hardening and sharpening to become like steel blades. In desperation, Talion launched a Flamethrower attack, but the resulting fires prevented him from seeing. Twin blades lanced through the fire, striking him full in the chest. He cried out as he felt the sharpened tips lance into is flesh, and gasped as they were drawn free. Blood began to wet the white fur of his chest, and he pressed a hand to his wounds. "I... won't... LOSE!!!" he shouted, lurching forward and spitting fire. But it was weak, and sputtered as it left. Vulkross easily dodged. Suddenly, it was enveloped in a white glow. Before the startled eyes of Team Rocket, the Pokémon grew, an extra set of legs sprouting out. Within seconds, Vulkross had vanished, to be replaced by the imposing form of Zulkross. "Time to finish this. X-Scissor, and aim for the head!" Talion heard and began to move away, but he was suddenly struck by a searing pain in his chest. One of the blades had punctured his lung, and he was slowly bleeding to death. That didn't stop Wilstar. He did nothing to call off his Pokémon as it leapt for him, and watched in satisfaction as Zulkross brought its hands down, slashing the falling Mightyena right across the snout to leave a deep x-shaped set of gashes. "Finish with Iron Tail, and make sure he can't escape." Zulkross leapt forward, but was suddenly stopped as a thick cloud of gas floated in front of it. The cloud came from James's Koffing, who floated at his trainer's side. "Enough!" James shouted. "Can't you see he's been hurt? If you have any heart, help him!" "Oh, I'll help him," Wilstar said, drawing a Poké-ball. "Everyone knows that once inside a Poké-ball a Pokémon will enter stasis. That means he won't die as long as I can get him inside. Of course, the capture process could prove stressful enough... But if it works..." He tossed the sphere, which struck Talion in the side, making him wince as he was engulfed in the red glow. Wilstar chuckled as he saw the Mightyena being sucked in, and watched eagerly as the sphere fell to the ground, trembling... and snarled when it sprang open again. Talion materialized on the ground once more, sweating and gasping for breath. Blood quickly soaked his fur, and James ran to his superior's side. "Hold on, sir. I'll get my bag..." A multicolored beam of energy suddenly slammed into him, lifting James from the ground and throwing him several yards away. Team Rocket turned to see Wilstar, his Dosel at his side. The Psychic Pokémon growled menacingly, and Wilstar smiled cruelly, eyes flaming. "No-one touches him. If he won't fulfill his end of the bargain, then he can pay the price." "Monster! Koffing, use Sludge Bomb!" The floating Pokémon spat several large globs of slime, which went flying for Dosel and Wilstar. They never reached their target. Striking an invisible barrier, they were turned around and sent flying directly back at their source, smacking into James and Koffing. "Fool. You have no hope of beating me. If I were you, I'd leave while you still have a choice." Most of the grunts looked at each other for only a few seconds before turning and running away. Talion, his vision growing dark, saw them abandon him, and his heart fell. I would have stayed for them... I would have fought... Would have died... Only James remained, picking himself up slowly. Talion felt a bit of hope rise as he saw the junior member of the squad remaining behind. "I will not leave my captain," James stated firmly, daring Wilstar to defy him. "Oh, please. Why can't you just admit defeat? Is it really worth your health and life to defend a freak like him?" "He's a living being, with feelings and a soul! I wish I could say the same for you!" James shouted. Wilstar just shook his head. "If that was meant to be insulting, you failed spectacularly. Dosel, shut him up and send him flying." James suddenly clutched his throat, an invisible hand choking the air from his lungs. Dosel's eyes glowed an angry red as it used Psychic to throttle the human. Then, just before James passed out, Dosel released a bright flash, and James was sent hurtling through the air by a powerful Psywave. "Happy trails!" Wilstar called cheerily after him, watching as Koffing flew after his master. He recalled Dosel and walked to the dying Mightyena. Kneeling down, he sneered at the fallen commando. "You should have just submitted. It would have been so much better for you. Ah, well. Some must learn the hard way. Enjoy the last few minutes of your life!" With that, he stood and strode away, leaving Jolt Talion to lie with the lifeblood streaming from his body as his vision went blank... Suddenly, Jolt felt himself waking up, which in itself was a major shock, since just minutes before he had been dying. The next thing he registered was an insistent voice. "Come on, stay with me. Don't die now. You're going to be okay. That's right, keep breathing." Suddenly, Talion realized that he wasn't feeling as much pain as before, almost as if... He managed to muster enough energy to force his eyes open, and was greeted by a pair of kind, emerald-green eyes. "That's right, just keep those eyes open. We were worried you wouldn't make it. Skullkross, he's awake now." Turning his head, though it pained him, Talion saw a tall, armored Pokémon kneeling over him, palms held over his body and emitting a golden glow. He gasped and sighed as he felt his injuries heal up. Then he turned to his human rescuer. "Wh-why... did you... save me?" The man smiled. "It was the right thing to do. We'll tend to those cuts on your snout in a moment." Talion suddenly remembered the x-shaped mark slashed by Zulkross. For a moment, he thought about letting them heal it, but then stopped. It'd sure be distinctive... "Leave it." The human looked at him in surprise. "If we don't heal that, it'll scar. Are you sure..." "It's fine. I mean, how many people can boast of having a perfect 'X' on them, especially when it was placed like mine? It won't kill me, so leave it." Nodding, the man smiled. "That's a good attitude. You know, I think you could use some more attention. Skullkross can do a lot, but even he can't fix everything. We'll take you back to our cabin so your body can finish recovering." With that, Skullkross finished healing the serious wounds and lifted Talion from the ground, his hold surprisingly gentle and causing Talion to relax. The human picked up his knapsack and Talion's, and stood beside Skullkross, and together they headed towards a distant lodge in the woods...

"I stayed with the two for over five weeks, healing my injuries and recovering strength. The man was actually the Master General, scouting for new recruits, and after I was fully healed, he offered me a position as Captain. Realizing there was nothing for me left in Team Rocket, I happily accepted." "And James was there?" Max asked. Talion smiled. "Yes. He was there alright, just a young trainee. Turns out that not long after I left, James paired up with Jessie, and those two with Meowth, to form the Team Rocket trio you're used to dealing with." He chuckled softly. "Ah, James. He always did have too big a heart to be a good Rocket agent, but he had nothing for him at home. I was one of the few people he ever opened up to." "And I always thought he was just a wimp," Max said in wonder. "I guess he really does have a heart." Talion nodded. "Trust me. He may be teamed up with the wrong side of the law, but he's got a bigger heart than most good guys. Don't judge him at face value." There was a sudden knock at the door, which made both of them jump. Then a familiar voice sounded on the other side. "Captain Talion, sir? Are you in?" "James!" Talion exclaimed, getting to his feet and walking over to open the door. Sure enough, James was waiting in the hall, fidgeting nervously. When he saw his old commander, he gulped, afraid of what Talion would say. But he relaxed when he saw the Mightyena break into a smile. "It's good to see you, James." James managed to smile back. "The same here, sir. It's been too long. Are you well?" Talion nodded. "I've never been better. Come in, come in. I'm guessing you have some questions for me." James nodded and stepped inside, only to gasp and jump in shock as he saw Max seated at the table. "Oh, I, uh, didn't realize you had company. I'll just stop by later then..." "It's okay," Max said, indicating to an empty seat. "You can stay. Captain Talion was just telling me about the time he left Team Rocket. I never knew you trained under an anthro." In spite of his nervousness, James smiled. "Yes. That was back before I teamed up with Jessie and Meowth, and let me tell you, I never had a better teacher. He taught me so much about life that I never learned back home." Talion nodded. "Maybe so, but I still think you chose the wrong line of work. You had too big of a heart to be stuck in a shady organization like Team Rocket. But, you've made your choice, and at least you're happy with where you're at. Just do me a favor; don't get into something you can't get out of." James nodded. "Thank you, sir. And I'd also like to thank you for not revealing my affiliation with Team Rocket to the Master General. You could have told him all about us, but you chose not to." Jolt smiled. "Just repaying the debt, James. Or at least starting."

When Jolt had finished speaking with James and Max, he left his chambers to head to the scheduled meeting with the Pokémon General and their guests in the courtyard. Apparently, his superior was acting on the orders of the Master General, something to do with the Evo Stones. Jolt was a bit nervous about the procedure, as he always was, and just hoped the trainers would be ready for what would happen. When he reached the entrance to the courtyard, he took a deep breath, straightened his uniform, and walked in. Everyone was present. Ash, Misty, May, and Brock were all talking with each other, and the Pokémon General was conversing with his assistants. The General himself was rather impressive, a 9-foot-tall Pikachu anthro named Anubis Shadorus, often called "Shadow". He was a lean, muscular individual, with brilliant yellow fur, brown hair, and golden eyes, dressed in an emerald green and lightning yellow uniform with a deep brown cape. His head assistant and wife, Flash, stood beside him, shorter than her husband but no less impressive. Her fur was slightly lighter in coloration, with brilliant blue eyes, like pools the color of the sea. Dressed more simply than her husband, in an earthy-brown long-sleeved shirt, baggy blue jeans, and white tennis shoes. On either side of the couple stood their two sons, Milan and Mannick, dressed in matching black-and-white tees, with jeans and shoes like their mother. In appearance, they were a perfect combination of their parents' genetics, with their father's build, the brown hair of both parents, and the ocean-blue eyes of their mother, and a fur color perfectly in-between. Of their faces, little but their eyes and hair could be seen beneath the cowls of the robes they wore. As they continued talking, a young Arcanine anthro, a new recruit named Arky, entered the area and sat down on the turf, basking in the sun's rays. As he just reclined, the trainers regarded him curiously. He was an interesting individual, rather halfway between a Growlithe and Arcanine in appearance. Though he had the general face shape, along with the wrist and ankle tufts of an Arcanine, his legs and tail were more like a Growlithe's, smaller in proportion than those of a full-blood Arcanine. His bodily build was at the halfway point, fuller than an Arcanine's but slimmer than a Growlithe's. Dressed in his blue jeans and belt, but without a shirt, he seemed very carefree, as if he didn't mind the fact that his form attracted the attention of many. Despite the eyes on him, Arky seemed unperturbed, and continued his sunbathe, stretching out on his chest to allow the rays even access to his entire back. After a short time, he turned over, allowing his chest to get some attention. He stayed in that position, sighing in contentment, until the double doors opened to admit the Master General, Sage, and Tirix, at which point he slowly got to his feet, stretching his arms and legs. He prepared to leave, but suddenly the Master General called, "Before you go off on your own, meet me in my quarters on the Might Yielder. I'd like to talk to you." Arky nodded before leaving. Trent noticed that Tirix seemed a little worried about something, and suddenly became nervous himself. That nervousness just increased as he noticed about twenty black-robed figures streaming in behind the Master General. The trainers suddenly felt vulnerable in the face of so many imposing individuals, and Trent began wondering if this was really a good idea. "It is time for your training to begin," the Master General said. "But you cannot do it as you are. To truly understand the hearts of your Pokémon, you must be as they are. Trent, Ash, both of you have experienced this, but only for a short time. This will be a more prolonged experience." "Wait a minute," Misty said indignantly. "Don't we have a choice in this?" "If you wish to truly learn, this is a step you must take," the Master General said. "Do not fear, there will be no pain." Suddenly, the robed figures gripped the trainers to hold them in place, not cruelly but with strength that would be impossible to break. Fear and surprise flashed across their faces, and Tirix averted his gaze from Trent, fidgeting nervously. "Sir," Jolt asked, "are you sure this is wise? I mean, we have in the past, but never so many, and never for so long." The Master General nodded. "This is necessary. If they wish to match me one day, they must pass this test." Turning back to the group, the Master General lifted an ornate wooden box and opened it, revealing two pairs of emerald green gloves with turquoise stones set in them. The stones shone with a magical light, speaking of incredible power. The Master General selected one pair, and Shadow the other, slipping them on their hands. Instantly, the stones glowed brighter, as if powering up. The two held out their hands, light green spheres of light coalescing in front of their palms, pulsating with energy, before beams of white light blasted free and slammed into the trainers. Within seconds, Ash, Trent, Misty, May, and Dawn had all been enveloped in a white glow that completely concealed them. Trent suddenly gasped as he felt immense changes overtaking his body. The light, it was doing something to him. He could feel muscles and bones, organs and tendons all stretching, bending, and contorting in ways he was unfamiliar with. An itching sensation burned just above his rear, and he suddenly felt a new growth fly out. A tickling feel flew across his skin as fur sprang up. His hands morphed, as did his feet. But the most dramatic change was to his face. He could feel it lengthening, stretching, his mouth and nose transforming into a pointed snout, his ears moving up on his skull and lengthening. Then, it was over. The light vanished, and Trent staggered as he was released, his muscles exhausted from the sudden transformation. He shook his head and turned to his right, where Ash had been standing moments before. Only now, there was no Ash. Where the trainer had been standing, there now stood a Pikachu anthropomorph wearing Ash's clothes! Trent was shocked, until he did a double take. There was something about the anthro that was familiar. For one thing, his head hair was the same black, disheveled mop that Ash had, and his eyes were the same brown as Ash's had been. "Ash? Is that... you?" The Pikachu turned to look at Trent and suddenly jumped. "Woah! You weren't there before. Wait... Why do you sound like Trent?" he said, with Ash's voice. "Ooh... I feel hot..." May's voice moaned. The two turned and yelped in surprise. Where Dawn, Misty, and May had been standing, there was now a Piplup, Azuril, and Blaziken. The three looked at each other and suddenly squealed. "What's happened to us!?!" The Master General smiled. "This is a part of your training. As I said, you are now like Pokémon, though you are slightly human as well. The powers of the Evo Stones in these gloves have turned you into the anthropomorphic forms of the Pokémon you resemble the most. You now have all the abilities, powers, and physical attributes of your Pokémon. With them, you will be able to understand fully what it is like for a Pokémon in battle, and thus better understand how to battle as one with your Pokémon. Your work will begin in the morning..."

* * *

"So did you talk with Captain Talion?" Jessie asked. "We need to get the goods on him if we're going to get him back to Team Rocket." "Jessie," James said quietly, "I... don't want to bring him back." Jessie's eyes widened in shock. "What do you mean?" "Well, you don't know this, but... I trained under Talion when I was a new recruit to team Rocket. And during one mission... my fellow Rockets abandoned Talion when he was gravely injured. Only I stayed behind, and I was blown away by the youth who hurt my superior." He sighed. "I just don't want to bring him back when he has a good life here. It wouldn't be right." "And since when," said Meowth indignantly, "do we care about 'right', James?" James stood, determination set in his face. "I do. Trying to steal Pikachu I can live with. Hurting an old friend... That's where I put my foot down. I will not lift a hand against my superior, and if either of you try anything, I will treat you as I would an enemy." Jessie and Meowth finally relented. "Oh, alright. We'll forgo the plan. I guess, for once, we can try doing the right thing. Who knows? Maybe, just this once, doing the right thing might really be... the right thing to do."

It was a little strange at first, being a Pokémon. The new forms, with their powers and enhanced abilities, were a bit hard to get used to. May, having been transformed into a Blaziken, felt very hot at first, until she realized it was because she had accidentally coated herself in fire. Dawn found that being a Piplup meant walking was a bit harder, with her shorter legs. Misty probably had the easiest time out of the three girls. Within minutes, she had mastered the art of not only walking on an Azuril's shorter legs, but also bouncing on her tail like a pogo stick. Of the five, Ash and Trent mastered their new forms quickest. This was due to both of them having experienced being in a Pokémon's body before. However, it was a little weird being anthro Pokémon, with their altered centers of balance and unique forms. Trent suddenly noticed that Tirix was still not looking at him fully, never making eye contact and averting his gaze whenever Trent tried to look him in the eyes. He seemed... ashamed of something, guilty. Seeing his best friend and mate so uncomfortable made Trent worried, and he decided he needed to talk with Tirix privately. "Excuse me, sir," he said politely, "but would it be alright if we retired to our rooms? I think all of us need time to sort this out." The Master General nodded. "Of course. I'll show you to your quarters. The best are those aboard the MightYielder, unless you'd rather stay in the compound, but then you might be forced to share a room." "The MightYielder sounds great," Misty said happily. "Especially if we get our own rooms." The Master General nodded. "Good. Let's go then. SkullKross?" The Master General's shadow suddenly rippled and grew before detaching and moving to sit beside him. Then, before the trainers' startled eyes, it began to grow, and a head suddenly rose from the ground... SkullKross' head. Within moments, the Pokémon had risen fully from the ground to stand beside the Master General. "Where did..." Trent started to ask, but the Master General held up a hand. "I know it is confusing, but to understand, you'll have to look without your eyes. Use your Aura instead." Trent nodded and closed his eyes, the false ears on the back of his head rising and vibrating. The world suddenly went from normal colors to shades of blue, every object flickering with fire. He looked at each individual in turn, noticing how different they all were. Ash's Aura glowed with a brilliant blue, Misty's a deep azure, May's slightly violet, and Dawn's a sky blue. He then turned his Aura vision to bear on the Master General and SkullKross. To his surprise, the two Auras were very different. While the Master General's had a greenish tint to it, SkullKross' was almost black, with a midnight-blue core. "They are different!" he exclaimed in surprise, opening his eyes once more. The Master General smiled. "Correct. SkullKross and I are not the same person, though many think that, but separate individuals. Why you don't usually see him is very simple. His ability, Personal Guard, allows him to transform into my shadow, only appearing when he is needed. Actually, he isn't really my Pokémon at all. He's a friend with a mission." "And... what is the mission?" Ash asked. The Master General smiled. "Well, all I know is that he is looking for a Pokémon named Lightrai, a Pokémon that is at once like Darkrai and yet its polar opposite as well, being a Ghost/Light type instead of Ghost/Dark. Why, he won't tell me, but it must be important." He grinned. "Anyway, we should be getting to your rooms. Follow me!" The Master General and SkullKross led them to the MightYielder, where they were each given separate cabins. Trent and Tirix were the last ones to receive their room the same one they had been given before. "Now remember, Trent," the Master General said, "you now have all the powers of a Lucario, from sensing Auras to seeing in the dark to the attacks. Be careful not to lose control of those powers. I'll leave you two alone. I hope you enjoy your time alone. SkullKross will be guarding the door so you are not disturbed." With that, the Master General left, shutting the door behind him and leaving the two alone. Trent couldn't believe what he had heard. "Tirix? Does he know as much as I think he does?" asked Trent, looking over at his mate. Tirix didn't respond right away. Instead, he kept his eyes averted, deliberately avoiding meeting Trent's gaze. Trent placed a paw on his mate's shoulder. "Tirix, what's wrong? You don't seem like yourself." Tirix finally sighed and looked up into Trent's eyes. "He... asked me if I loved you. When I said I did, he nodded and said he was happy... then he told us not to interfere, that he would cause you to undergo a change..." He suddenly hugged Trent, tears leaking from his eyes. "I feel so awful. I didn't tell you what was coming, and now..." He wiped his eyes with the back of his paw. "I don't know why he would do this to you, or if it's even permanent. If you have to stay like this, I don't know what I'll do! You'll probably hate me for not telling you the truth..." Trent lifted Tirix's face to look him in the eyes. "Tirix, don't you ever say that. It's fine, and even if this change is permanent, I don't think it'll be that bad. I mean, I'll be closer to you than I ever was as a human. Now don't be so gloomy, and don't keep beating yourself up. I don't want to see any more tears." Tirix nodded and managed a weak smile. "O... okay." Trent smiled kindly and gave his Lucario a kiss, feeling it in a completely new way with both of them being Pokémon. When he separated for a breath, he whispered, "I love you." Tirix murred and quivered in anticipation. "Trent, I love you, too... I want you so much right now. Please?" Trent smiled and nodded. "Alright. If it's what you want, it'll be my pleasure...

SkullKross was just checking his weaponry, a sword and shield composed of pure light, when he heard a nearby door open. He looked in the direction of the sound and started as he saw a tall Lucario walking his way. "Lucarian? What are you doing here? I thought you were-" Lucarian waved a hand. "He let me out. Actually, I need to speak with Trent and Tirix. It's very important... and personal." SkullKross lifted his sword up to his eye, gazing along the edge. "I was told not to let anyone through this door but the Master General. He said nothing about you." "Move," Lucarian suddenly said commandingly, unleashing a wave of Psychic energy that shoved SkullKross to the side. "I won't be long, and I have no dark purpose." SkullKross got to his feet, dusting his armor off. "Oh, alright. But this is against orders." "Oh, to hell with orders," the Lucario snapped, pushing the door open. Trent and Tirix were lying on the bed, spooning, with Trent penetrating his mate. When Lucarian entered, both of them gasped, knowing it was too late to hide what they had been doing, and worried about the Lucario's reaction. He surprised them by smiling broadly and sitting down in an ornate oak chair, the wood creaking to accommodate his 7-foot hight and 180-pound weight. "No need to be embarrassed," he said cheerily. "It's heart-warming to see Tirix have a mate like you, Trent. I'm sorry I disturbed you, but maybe this'll help." Using Psychic, the Lucario lifted a blanket and draped it over the two lovers, concealing their lower regions. "Tirix, I... I have something to tell you," Lucarian said softly. Tirix looked at him curiously. "What do you mean?" Lucarian cleared his throat and looked Tirix in the eyes. "It's about our old clan... Well, I was once the leader. Over thirteen years ago I left the group. I had an incurable wanderlust, and I left my leadership in the hands of my son, Marketh." Tirix shuddered. "I remember him. He was the one who ordered my banishment." Lucarian nodded. "Anyway, I met the Master General and decided to travel with him. Since then, I have been his best Pokémon... and a close friend. But I made sure there was always a way for my old clan to summon me if there was ever a pressing issue, and asked Marketh to do so if such a situation arose." Tirix looked at Lucarian in confusion. "So why didn't you come when I was being thrown out?" Lucarian frowned. "I guess Marketh had grown too fond of his control over the clan. Over the years, my conversations with him grew less and less friendly. I tried to contact him a little over a week ago, but was met with outright refusal." Lucarian stood, a fire in his eyes. "Enough is enough. I've gathered all the evidence I need. It's time for me to bring justice back to the clan." With that, he suddenly vanished, a quick Teleport whisking him away. He reappeared several hundred miles from the MightYielder, deep within a forest. He took a deep breath, inhaling a scent imprinted deep in his memory: the smell of home. He caught another scent, too. It was the smell of his old clan. And there was something else. Reaching out with his Aura, Lucarian suddenly ran into a gigantic mass of anger... and a smaller body of fear. The anger came from his old clan, though he couldn't quite make out what they were upset about. The fear, however, he could make out quite plainly. It was coming from a young Lucario, probably just evolved. Lucarian recognized the Aura signature as that of Luthos, who had been one of Tirix's close childhood friends. His fear was directed towards the raging mob behind him. Growling in anger, Lucarian dashed away, heading not straight for the clan but a little ahead of them, so he would intersect with the group. Within minutes, he could hear the clamoring of enraged Lucario and the equally angry yet somewhat less intimidating exclamations of Riolu. He could also hear screaming, pleas for help, which served to spur him on. Suddenly, Lucarian burst from the tangled forest growth, emerging on a game trail cut through the woods. He turned in the direction he knew they would be coming from, and at that moment a young Lucario with hazel eyes rounded a bend, coming at full speed... along with a storm of attacks. Aura Spheres, Dark Pulses, Shadow Balls, Swifts, even a few Hyper Beams came flying from behind, tearing into the foliage. Most of them overshot the fleeing Pokémon, though quite a few struck him, making Luthos yelp. Lucarian could already see many bruises, cuts, scrapes, and burns riddling the youngster's form. Enraged, he gave a loud howl, making Luthos jump. The Lucario yelped in fear when he saw the giant in front of him, only to feel a gentle presence touch his mind. He ran behind Lucarian and turned, waiting in fear. The larger Lucario looked at Luthos and gave a soft smile before turning to face the direction of the crowd. He didn't have long to wait. Seconds later, a swarm of Lucario and Riolu appeared, launching a stream of attacks. Luthos cried out in fear and covered his face, preparing to be hit. But the attacks never struck. Lucarian threw up a Counter and placed himself in front of Luthos. The incoming attacks struck the barrier, only to be sent hurtling back the way they had come, their power increased twofold. Seeing the now-strengthened stream of attacks they had launched flying at them, the incoming mob halted, dumbstruck, only to be bowled over by their own strikes. A few tried to block, but failed miserably, and in seconds every member of the clan was flat on their asses, groaning. The first to stand was a young male with blood-red eyes. He glared at Lucarian with rage, baring his teeth at the elder. "What do you think you're doing?" he demanded angrily. "Get out of the way, or you'll end up like him." Lucarian's face remained set, but inside he was greatly saddened. He was such an understanding youngster, always full of life and compassion. What happened? "I'm stopping an injustice," he said plainly. "And if anyone is in danger of injury, it isn't me, but you, Marketh." Marketh narrowed his eyes. "And how do you know my name?" "Quite simple really, and you surely would have guessed by now if you were anything like your younger self. Do you mean to tell me you don't recognize your own sire?" Marketh's eyes widened. "F-Father! I didn't think... I mean..." "You weren't expecting to see me. No surprise, since you never take the time to listen when I call. I established that Aura Crystal link so that we could talk, for all the good it does." Marketh huffed indignantly. "Well, I have been busy." Lucarian nodded. "I see. And," he said, motioning towards Luthos, "is this what you've been busy doing? Tormenting and mistreating helpless individuals? I thought I taught you better!" Marketh's eyes narrowed once more, his lip curling upward in a faint snarl. "You don't know who you're defending. He's nothing but a failure, a perverted freak, just like..." "Just like Tirix and Viramas?" Marketh's eyes flew open and his jaw dropped in shock, but he quickly regained his composure. "Yes, like them. And how on earth do you know about them? Oh, wait, don't tell me. You've met them and 'taken them under your wing'? You always were a strange one. Maybe you're just like them, eh, Father?" He spat the last word like a curse, and Lucarian could see the contempt in his eyes. "What has happened to you?!" he asked in shock. "I don't know if you're even my son anymore. You used to have a great heart, Marketh, the greatest in this clan. Don't you remember all those times when you helped those who were different?" Marketh gazed at his father coldly. "The responsibilities of leadership can change a person." "I can see that," Lucarian said bitterly. "It was a mistake to make you leader of this clan." Marketh sneered. "Well, if you really feel that way, why don't you just retake leadership? Or are you too big of a coward to fight your own son?" Lucarian looked deep into his son's eyes, his face hard but his heart breaking. I don't want to do this, but I have no choice. He held his hand up, and a bone club appeared, lengthening until it was more like a double-bladed staff. "Marketh, I have always loved you, and I always will. But I see now that I placed too much trust in you, and gave you more than you could handle." He twirled the club with a flourish, and another one appeared in his other paw. "Son, I don't want to hurt you, but I will if it is needed. Listen to me, please. Turn around and go back home. Choose another to lead, one with more experience. Go back to your old life." "The words of a loving father, or a spineless coward?" Marketh spat, sneering in contempt. Lucarian just sighed. "The words of a judge. And you have now refused me. I'm sorry." With that, he leapt forward, swinging his bone clubs and striking Marketh in the chest. The younger Lucario yelped and flew back, pressing a hand to his bruised sternum, and looked up at his father. For a second, shock was all that registered on his face. Then, it turned to rage. "Get him!!!" he shouted. The other Lucario and Riolu looked at each other nervously, unsure of whether or not to obey, but quickly came to the conclusion that numbers would win out over strength and lunged. Suddenly, beams of green light lanced out from Lucarian's eyes, blasting into the incoming attackers. Instantly, they fell to the ground, screaming and howling in anguish. Marketh looked on in shock. "They feel the pain they have caused," Lucarian said without emotion. "Through Visioneer, they experience the agony, remorse, and hopelessness they inflicted upon Tirix and Viramas, as well as Luthos. And now..." A final beam lanced out and struck Marketh fully between the eyes, "so will you." For a moment, Marketh just stared dumbly forward. Then, his eyes widened, and he let loose a blood-curdling shriek, collapsing to the ground and writhing, crying for it to stop. A pain in his chest, Lucarian turned to Luthos. "Come, young one," he said softly. "It is time for us to go." Luthos looked up at Lucarian. "Go where? I have nowhere to go, Lucarian. No-one wants me, or could ever want me." Lucarian smiled. "But that is where you are wrong. Tirix and Viramas have both found trainers who care for them, and now it is time for you to find one, too." He sent a final Visioneer into Luthos, but this time it carried not pain, but joy. Luthos was suddenly bathed in the radiant feeling of love and being loved, of belonging, of finding a true home and family. He cried out in amazement and fell to his knees, overwhelmed by happiness. Nodding, Lucarian placed a hand on the young one's shoulder. "That is what waits for you. Now come." And with that, they vanished from the forest. They reappeared in the very same room Lucarian had left from, but now it was empty. Trent and Tirix were both gone. "They must be in the dining hall," he said, walking towards the door and motioning for Luthos to follow. The young Lucario, feeling dwarfed by the splendor of the ship, nonetheless fell into step behind Lucarian. Suddenly, Trent and Tirix rounded a corner, flanked by the imposing SkullKross. They stopped short when they saw Lucarian and his guest, and for a moment the four regarded each other. It was Tirix who broke the silence. "Luthos? Is that you?" He laughed and leapt forward, embracing his childhood friend. "Oh, I can't believe it! It's really you! How've you been?" Luthos was laughing too. "It's great to see you, Tirix!" Then, he grew silent, sadness crossing his face. "But... things haven't been going well." Tirix looked at his friend worriedly. "What happened? Wait, don't tell me... They ran you out too?" Luthos nodded, tears leaking from his eyes, and Tirix hugged his friend once more. "It's okay, pal. You've got friends now." He suddenly pulled from the embrace and led Luthos over to Trent. "I'd like you to meet my Trainer. This is Trent. Don't worry about the looks, he's really a human. A magical stone turned him into a humanoid Pokémon." Trent smiled softly. "It's nice to meet you, Luthos. Don't worry about trying to speak in English or through telepathy. I can understand you if you just use Pokémon language." Luthos smiled and shook paws with Trent, feeling the strength of his grip, yet at the same time a gentleness that spoke of a kind heart. He suddenly gasped. "Oh my God! On your hands, are those..." Tirix nodded. "You guessed it. Me and Trent... well, we're partners, in more ways than one." Luthos beamed, his eyes sparkling. "When Lucarian showed me the joy you felt, I never imagined this is what caused it! Tirix, I'm so happy for you!" He gave his friend another hug, laughing happily. "Whoa, what's this?" a masculine voice suddenly said from behind them, and Trent and Tirix turned to see a young man watching the goings-on, a smile on his face. His skin was pale, and his hair jet-black, both offset by a navy-blue coat and hat, the latter of which had a triangular brim with the rear edge spiked, and cobalt pants. A golden pendant hung around his neck. At his side stood a Lucario, eyes gleaming. "Riley! Long time no see!" Trent exclaimed. Riley smiled and nodded. "Too true. I see you've become accustomed to your new form. It can be a little confusing at first." "Tirix!" The Lucario leapt forward and wrapped Tirix in a strong hug, laughing. "It's good to see you!" Tirix beamed in happiness. "Viramas! You look great! It's been a long time!" "Well well. All of my descendants, reunited again," Lucarian said, a smile on his face. When the three Lucario looked at him curiously, he smiled. "You didn't know? Luthos is your distant cousin. He was born of my grandson Imirth, while Tirix and Viramas, your mother Illa was my daughter and Marketh's sister." "So, we're family!" Luthos said happily, embracing his two friends again. "I couldn't ask for anything better."

On the deck of the MightYielder, a lone figure gazed out over the railing, ruby eyes gleaming in the night. Though night was falling, his eyes allowed him to see in the dark. The wind blew in, and ruffled his white fur. The Master General strode up to stand beside him. "Not going on your walk, Scythe?" The Absol turned and smiled. "I was just going to, sir. That is, if I have your permission." The General smiled. "Scythe, you know you don't need to ask. Go on, take a break. Relax." Scythe nodded and saluted. "Thanks, sir." He turned and strode down from the deck and along the beach. Scythe inhaled deeply, breathing in the scent of the salty air blowing in from the sea, the fragrant incense of the forests, the smell of the rich earth of the island. He loved to just stroll along the coast here, where all was quiet and peaceful, where one could truly become united with nature. And he especially loved taking his walks when the light was low, sometimes at dusk, other times in the darkness of night. It was a time when the world seemed to be sleeping, but so alive. Day was vibrant and colorful, but the night was a world of magic. It was the time when reality seemed to blend with the dream world, creating a wonderland that few witnessed. It was rich in mystery and abounding in what many would call the supernatural, and that was just the way Scythe liked it. The noises were incredible, too. The night air was quieter than that of the day, to Scythe it was a rich silence, calming and yet invigorating. The soft calls of Noctowl and Hoothoot, Kricketune chirping in the underbrush, and the humming of Illumise and Volbeat washed over him. It was all like a natural lullaby. Suddenly, Scythe heard another sound: a moan. It was so soft that no human would have noticed, but Scythe's ears were far sharper than those of a human. Zeroing in on the sound, he made his way in the direction of the source. It didn't take him long to find the spot, a small rocky stretch of shore littered with old driftwood. But tonight, there was something new washed ashore. A thickened plastic life raft had washed ashore on the beach... and there was someone in it. It was a man who looked to be in his mid-forties. His clothes were tattered, and his hair disheveled, indicating that it had been quite a while since he had last been in civilization. His face seemed very familiar to Scythe, and the longer he looked, the more familiar it seemed. Suddenly, recognition blossomed in his mind as he realized just where he had seen the human before. The man moaned and shuddered, a pendant slipping from one of his pockets and dropping to the floor of the raft. Scythe scooped it up in his paw, examining it closely, before slipping it into a pocket in his cloak. He saw how thin the human was, and how weak he must have been, and realized he needed care as soon as possible. Gently, he slipped his arms underneath the human, lifting him with little effort, and began carrying him back to the MightYielder. Once on board, Scythe made his way to his private cabin. While not as opulent as the captain's or Master General's, it was still quite well-furnished, with a large, comfortable bed, writing desk, and various other articles. He placed the injured human gently on his bed, covering him in a blanket woven from Silcoon thread and trimmed with the wool of a Mareep. He then went to his sink and drew a cup of clean water taken from a pure, untainted spring located in one of Evo Island's mountains. It was said that the spring was borne from the tears of the legendary Suicune when the island dried up years ago. The human was beginning to stir, mumbling blearily, though his eyes remained shut. Scythe walked over and gently raised the man's head, bringing the glass to his lips. "Drink this," he said softly. "It will restore your strength." The human opened his mouth, allowing the cool, pure water to flow down his throat, soothing the dry feeling. He quickly swallowed several more gulps, feeling the strength beginning to return to him. His eyes fluttered briefly before opening, and he glanced hazily at his surroundings, confused as to how he went from floating in the open ocean to laying on board an opulent ship. "Are you alright?" Scythe asked softly, and the man jerked his head around, wincing as his skull pounded. He gazed at the green-cloaked figure, squinting as he tried to make out the face hidden beneath the cowl of the leaf-colored robe. "Yes," he responded in a scratchy voice. "Thank you... I owe you my life." Scythe smiled softly. "It was no trouble. Always willing to help someone in need." The man nodded. "Well, thank you... uhm... Do you have a name?" The Absol nodded. "Scimitar. Scythe Scimitar." The man's eyes widened. "Scythe? Is it... you?" He sat up, ignoring the pain. "It's me, Allen! Don't you remember?" Scythe nodded, tears in his eyes. "Yes... I always remembered you. But... what are you doing here? I thought... What about your wife? What happened?" Allen sighed. "Amber and I... Well, we are no longer together. She left me. You see, for a few years I had been trying to contact you, to see how you were faring, but for some reason it seemed like none of them were reaching their destination. Then one day I caught my wife burning a collection of letters I had written. It turned out that she had been secretly destroying any attempts I made at getting in touch with you..."

* * *

5 years ago... "What are you doing?" Allen shouted as he burst into his wife's study. Before him, Amber sat torching a set of letters addressed to Scythe Scimitar, reducing the documents to ash. Amber turned and glared at her husband. "I'm doing this for your own good. You're married to me now, so get all of those past relationships out of your head. What would our son think?" "Leave him out of this," Allen snapped. "And I wasn't trying to cheat on you. All I was doing was checking up on an old friend. I wasn't even asking for a get-together, just how he was doing! You have no right to prevent that." Amber scowled. "Oh, but I do. I don't want you even writing to that freak of nature. Honey, he's just an accident, some genetic mistake, and a gay creep no less!" "He is not any of those things!!!" Allen shouted. "If you only took the time to know him. He's just different, not a freak. And his orientation shouldn't be a factor in your decision either. For all I know, he might even be going straight!" Amber laughed mirthlessly. "To hell with that. I won't take that chance. And if you try that again... I quit." Allen's eyes grew wide. "What do you mean, 'quit'?" "This marriage. If you want that anthro freak more than me, then you can have him. I'll just pack my bags and go... with our son." "You can't do that! Not without filing for custody." "Then I'll get a good lawyer, and you'd better get one, too. Oh, I forgot. If you try, they'll think you're a freak, too!" "You've thought it all out, haven't you?" he said bitterly. "Honey, I know how angry you must be. But I'm telling you, I still love you. And I don't want you to leave. But can you blame me for just wanting to hear from an old friend?" "An old boyfriend." She spat back. "No. It won't happen." "Why must you be so unreasonable? All I want to do is..." "THAT'S IT!" Amber shrieked. She suddenly grabbed her wedding ring and yanked it from her finger, ignoring the popping of her knuckles as the metal band was roughly torn away. "YOU CARE MORE ABOUT THAT FUCKING MUTANT THAN YOU DO ABOUT ME! I'M LEAVING, WITH TRENT!" The phone suddenly rang, and Amber picked it up. The vidscreen flashed on to reveal... "Trent! What are you doing calling from the Pokémon lab?" Her son looked at her in confusion. "Mom, don't you remember? I'm starting my journey today. I just got my starter Pokémon. It's a Torchic, just like I wanted. Don't you remember?" Amber nodded. "Yeah, I do, honey. Look I have to go, but I'll call again soon. Good luck." "Bye, mom! Say hi to dad for me!" And with that, the link went dead. Amber put the receiver down shakily. "I'm... leaving," she said in a quavering voice. "My bags are packed, and the car's outside. Try to stop me, and I run you over." "Honey, please don't do this!" "It's over, Allen. There's nothing for me here. Looks like neither one of us gets our son, but maybe that's for the best." Minutes later, Amber's car pulled away from the house, filled with her belongings, and leaving Allen alone in an empty house...

"So she just left?" Scythe asked in shock. "She didn't care?" Allen nodded sadly. "I tried calling her several times over the next few months, but she never responded. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore, so I set out on a boat to try and find you. I traveled for nearly five years, but never got any clues. Then a storm struck the ship, and I had to leave in a life raft. I was adrift for more than a week. I guess the current carried me here." "Hold on a moment," Scythe suddenly exclaimed. "Didn't you say you had a son? What happened to him?" Allen sighed. "He was ten years old at the time, and just setting out on his Pokémon journey. I sometimes wonder how he's doing. I haven't heard from Trent in years." Scythe's eyes lit up. "Did you say your son's name was Trent?" Allen nodded. "That's right. Why, do you know him?" Scythe laughed. "Allen, Trent's here, on this very ship! He came here to train." Allen sat up, eyes wide. "My son, here... I want to see him!" "Well, his looks may surprise you. A part of his training was stepping into the body of a Pokémon. He's now an anthropomorph like me, only a Lucario instead of an Absol." Allen nodded. "I understand, but I have to see him. I need to explain some things... I just hope he's forgiven me by now." Scythe smiled and helped Allen to his feet. "I'm sure he has. In fact, he may just surprise you. Come on, I'll help you to his quarters. He's meeting with some friends, but we should be allowed in." Together, the two made their way through the Might Yielder, finally stopping outside of Trent's quarters. SkullKross was standing guard at the door, but he quickly gave them permission to enter when Scythe explained what was going on. "Far be it from me to keep a father from his son," the Pokémon said as he opened the door. Inside, Allen saw three Lucario and an anthropomorphic one seated in a circle and talking amongst themselves, though they looked up when the door opened. Almost immediately, the anthro and him locked eyes, and Allen knew that the individual was Trent, his son. For several uncomfortable moments, all was quiet as the two regarded each other. Finally, just when Allen was about to lose hope, Trent said, "Dad? Is that... you?" Allen nodded weakly, worried about what would come next, but Trent surprised him when he leapt to his feet and embraced his father, being careful to avoid causing injury with his chest spike. "Oh, Dad! I've missed you so much! Where have you been?" Allen returned the hug and laughed in happiness. "Trent, I've missed you, too! I'm sorry for leaving you, but... I had to see Scythe again. You see, Trent, Scythe and I... Well, it's hard to explain, but... we used to be lovers." Trent smiled. "Dad... I want you to know something too." He motioned to one of the Lucario with his hand, and he stood up, regarding Allen with aquamarine eyes before walking over to stand beside Trent. "Dad, I want you to meet Tirix. He's... my mate. We met in the Hoenn Region and things sort of went from there." Allen smiled. "Tirix, eh? It's an honor to meet you. I hope you and my son have had a good relationship?" Tirix nodded, returning the smile. "Yes, sir. It's a pleasure to meet you, too. Scythe told us about your relationship, and I think you're a lucky man." Allen nodded. "Well, maybe not as lucky as some. Trent, I just want you to know that it wasn't me who wanted to leave. Your mother left because of Scythe. I was trying to contact him, just to see how he was faring, but she grew angry and left me." Trent smiled. "It's alright, Dad. As long as you're safe and back with me, I'm fine." Allen turned to Scythe. "My friend, I never meant to hurt you. I only hope you can forgive me." Scythe smiled softly. "There's nothing to forgive, Allen. I'm just glad that we're together again..." The door suddenly opened to admit the Master General. Seeing Scythe and Allen standing close together, he smiled. "Well, Scythe, who is this?" Allen gasped, worried that the rather imposing individual wouldn't think badly of him, but he relaxed when he saw how at ease Scythe was. The Absol grinned. "Sir, this is Allen, my old friend... and lover." "He's also my dad," Trent added, smiling at his father. The Master General laughed. "Well, I guess that simplifies things somewhat. What do you think, Equiox?" It was then that Trent and Tirix saw the twelve-tailed Pokémon on the Master General's shoulder, and they smiled and stepped forward to greet their old friend, the one who had given Trent the ability to understand Pokétongue. It had been a long time since Indir Island...

That night, Trent, Tirix, Luthos, Allen, and Scythe shared a room so that old friends and family could bond. For a few hours, they talked nonstop, getting to know one another again. Finally, near midnight, they finally turned in for the night. Trent was the last one to drift off to sleep, thinking over all that had happened that day. And it's only the beginning, he thought before dreams overtook him...
