An Noire story staring Mr Moth and the Mother. By Inky The Moth

(Trying a different style)

The evening LA lights were shining a familiar red outside the moth's windows making the smallest splash of color in what otherwise would be a practically black and white room due to the darkness. The moth couldn't ever stand the red light, it brought out the fluster in his pale soft face which was gained from drowning his sorrows using the most common drink used by detectives of this time. Of course the people who drank were the ones commonly encountering death, and not just regular death, the unfair deaths, the deaths where you say, too young, too tragic.

A more painful than usual moan of exhaustion was being uttered from down the hall as steel cables struggled to move an elevator to the top. The shuffle of the elevator doors opening was more of a sigh of relief as its ordeal was finished. The occupent of this elevator smoothly transfered her way out of the elevator and across the carpet. A figure finally sliding into the frame of frosted glass which soon would act as subtitles, moth knew what was going to happen next. Three knocks on the door

"Mi'ster moth?" the figure pleaded, giving the door three more knocks. The drunk turned his attention towards the clock, twelve thirty four, three hours and thirty four minutes past closing time. "Mr Moth is out, come back tomorrow" she stated her next words in a very stern manner. Her words only flickering in time with her anxiety at the beginning before she covered it up with splashes of anger. "W-why, you aren't about to s'end me away you drunk, I'm coming in whether you want me to or not," at first this sparked a nerve in the drunk as he reached into his coat, keeping his hand there and keeping tight hold of something. This one seemed a little aggressive. "Well if you're are going to come in anyway then why don't yo-" the door interrupted his speech as it quickly slammed open the figure gradually sliding into the room. She taking her sweet time getting all the way in before glaring at the drunk in front of her.

"You are c'ertainly are a drunk, now, do i have your attention?" She asked as she coiled more inward trying to balance her frustration boiling up inside her. The alcoholic was now staring at her, so she accomplished something at least. "It's my daughter, she is missing" she stated as her hand reached into her purse, she producing a photo from her deepest pockets. "She dis'appeared a few days' ago, no call, no nothing" the picture was of her in a very formal dress, looked to be some sort of concert, her ears plainly visible and tilted back in a bashful manner. Her whiskers being the more prominent feature of her. She certainty didn't look as heavy as her /mother/

The moth looked down at the picture and back at the mother with a mild squint. "Adopted" she stated looking off to the side her eyes looking down. Her scales shining a little in the flashing red light turning her a tad reddish just under her eyes. Soon however she looked back at him with a very stern look that sent shivers down the moth's spine. "You mus't find her mis'ter moth." the moth squinted his eyes due to the mother's odd dialect. "Mus-*t*" she stated putting emphasis on the T so the moth's antenna twitched beneath his hat. His hand moving up to his hat to hold it in place as the red highlight got slightly brighter. His chair leaning back to further shroud his face from the mother.

"Why should I care? It isn't my kid, what is in it for me" he asked, his hand subconsciously moving to the bottle, the one which had been empty for hours now. His hand lifting it and putting it to his mouth as a subconscious effort. "Well did you not want you bottle to be filled?" She asked throwing him a canteen of what he could only hope is what he wanted it to be. His hat twitched as his hand swiftly and precisely plucked it out of the air. "Now your speaking my language" he stated opening it up and sniffing what is inside, drinking a gulp of it. His hand then moving to his own hip under his coat. Swiftly grabbing his own flask, its silvery shine showcasing the room. His hand moving to open the canteen. He pouring a small bit of the canteen into his flask as he screwed back on the lid.

His hand placing the flask back at his hip as he screwed back on the top of the canteen. He tossing the canteen very sloppily to the trash. His hand shakily grabbing a cane from under his desk as he stood up. "Ma'am, your native accent is fine in my office" He stated in his vibrating low voice as his hand gripped onto the cane tightly. His three legged step echoing loudly as the sound of rubber onto wood kept louder than the rest. His body now close to the mother's just for a moment. Her face looked off to the side as the fluster grew in her face. A small giggle emanating from her throat. His fluster very slightly faded as his antenna shifted his hat upward slightly. Even when alcohol stained the words he spoke they still ignited the flame in any woman's heard. If anything the alcohol made the perfect accelerant. "Now, give me what you got." He told her her face flustering before realizing what he meant. Her hand moving to her purse as she unzipped it.

She handing him a small box with her things in it. His hands glacing along it, he firstly going for the dairy opening it up. An empty space being there, a few black spots as well. His hand touching at the spots and moving it under his hat his eyes lighting up slightly. "I need to borrow a lighter." he stated turning back towards the snake with a confident pose. "Oh I don't sssmoke" she stated blushing further as she adjusted herself. The moth put his hand out still staring at the mother. "Neither do I" he stated still holding his hand out and glaring at her. Her face flustered more as she handed over a matchbook. "I wasssn't going to read it" she hissed in a very defensive manner. "Oh I'm sure you just wanted to set up a new scrapbook then, sure" he stated grabbing onto the matchbook and looking at it closely, opening it. "Tentilocos" he stated before grabbing his flask, taking a sip, and moving to the door. "I'll keep you posted, read a newspaper, it will tell you about it soon.

And with that he exited the room, the slam of the door vibrating the office as the elevator near silently slid down the shaft.
