Ice Soldier chapter 3
#3 of Ice Soldier
He spent the next 10 minutes face down in the mud, with a mix of emotions, anger, regret, hatred. But the strongest of them all was sadness, he had let her get away, when she was jut some 12 feet away, she had slipped right through his paws, and now he hung, or more so, laid his head in sadness, the mud feeling oddly soothing on his raging head. He sobbed, and actually shed some tears into the mud, although if asked he would of said it was from frustration, deep down in his heart he knew it was from sadness, he pushed himself up out of them mud, brushing himself off somewhat, then setting off to the spaceport.
He readjusted his battle suit and stepped past the broken doors, over the dead guards and into the burning hall way, casually ducking the burning beam, and side stepping the leaking plasma conduit. He walks down the hall with the smug, I-do-this-everyday look, and reached then end of the hall, pulling himself along by the wall his rail gun slung lightly over his shoulder, he reached the command console where the dead commander laid slumped over the now bloody and brain covered panel.
He looked around mildly and was not amused, he started to overhear a rape in the room over, and sought out to go and stop it, having a gut wrenching feeling that the same was happening to his love, but his mind refusing to accept it, and to put itself at peace he had to stop this one.
He walked into the room, only to confirm his hunch, that there were to large, heavy human males, with most of their armor still on, raping a poor vixen on a table. So he just walked up standard, and coughed politely. The two men looked up startled, and before they could recover to grab their guns, he had already put two silver dollar size holes in their heads, watching them die and fall to the ground leaking blood onto the floor. Then the vixen sighing in relief as she was no longer being brutalized, he reached over to a spot on the wall, and handed her some medical scrubs to replace the clothes that had been cut off of her.
She took the clothes gladly, with mixed emotions, the feelings in her head keeping her from recognizing him when she first saw him, she trailed after him and watched him take down a couple more humans as they were doing hunting sweeps up and down the halls, only to be hunted and sometimes brutally killed themselves. He found out that some things were better than others when it came to taking out anger, and killing thy foe was an excellent way to relief said tension. She followed behind him close, les she get raped again. She finally came out of the self induced coma that was intended to keep her from mentally breaking from the rape, she looked at him with new found eyes.
"You are Rick, aren't you?" She asked the memories collecting as she kept her eyes on him.
He looked up and back at her, from a dying human he was kicking, out of shear anger towards his recent loss. "And what if I am?"
She looked a little timid but said her mind, "Because if you are, Andarina always spoke highly of you..." She trailed off afraid of what his reaction might be.
Rick stood there, and seemed to sink inward on himself, gasping in a long drawn out sob, and slumping down against a wall. He sat there looking depressed, and down. The vixen, who totally thought it was her fault, moved over to him and patted him on the shoulder, trying to comfort him, and feeling she owed him for saving her, cause although she was a female, the rape was usually fatal at the end, the cruelness of the Confederates knowing no bounds.
"What is wrong?" She pleaded with him, trying to get into his mind and to help him.
"I saw them taking my Andar off planet in a drop ship!" He sobbed aloud, although his paw demonstrated something else on a wall nearby, making it crumble like a cheap piece of chalk.
She wanted to be close to him to help him through his torment, but her mind was telling her to move away before she became another 'wall' for his tension relief. She fought her mind and won, her feminine care kicking in at high gear, and making her hold him close in his time of turmoil. She patted his head softly with a comforting pat. Then sitting down next to him, on the floor, and leaning up against him, without a second thought she leaned over and gave him a kiss.
She then backed up when what she had just done clicked in her mind, her sore and abused body not really wanting to move, so she just sighed and passed slightly out against him, which to his surprise was something totally unexpected. He got up, and picked her up, slinging her over his shoulder then walking off slowly down the hall to the launch pad. He found one of the undamaged ships, and climbed aboard it. He put her down on a chair and walked patiently over to the pilot seat, sitting down at it and starting up the engines, having to open the port side window in order to shoot the up coming human interloper, leaving another nice round hole in this one's head.
The ship took off, and shock with violent anger as it reached the sky, pushing hard to break the hold of gravity as it climbed ever higher, pushing into the stratosphere then into orbit, Rick punched in the standard com channel link on it, then remember that he had 'cargo' on board, he voted against stopping to drop her off on the ship in orbit, and decided to chase after his Andar instead, punching in some of the code, then letting the computer fill in the rest as he searched the empty vacuum of space for the signal his tracer was putting out.
After forcing the static out of his scans he channeled the power of the scan into the general direction from which he got a ping off the transponder. He hit in the certain marks he felt he needed to in order to head in the right direction without having any unwanted collisions with various space junk left from blowing the hell out of defenseless ships that had sought to free themselves from the brutal in orbit bombardment.
Navigating his way through the debris with an odd feeling that he was way too good at it, and should not have been able to do it. Oh well, he did it, and that was all there was to it. He just set off to chase the transmitter.
Rick thought back onto his life, and what he could have done to avoid this, he should of just let her be, he should of just let his love be with her friend, her best friend, who she had know long before him. He came into her life so much later, his abrupt entrance was if not unexpected it was that of the strong and darker call to someone who had an eye on his love. His life was in utter turmoil now and his mind was racing to find someway to blame it on himself, it was what he always did, it made him so unlike the others. He was not one to lay blame on others, he always to the blame himself, even if he was not totally at fault, his mind swirled with the confides of his feelings, his brain was awash with emotions not thought possible for a soldier, a soldier if not of war, then a soldier of love.
Rick was true a veteran on both fronts, his heart was at war with itself, she would have not fallen into the hands of the hated foe had she not been in love with him, his heart was coursing with the doubts and worries brought on by his troubled mind, his perplex was that of one who was far more than capable of deeper thought, his heart was filled with woe of doubts, his head was full of filters of grief, one blaming himself, one blaming the war, one blaming fate, and still another blaming his sheer existence. Darkness beyond what was thought possible, his mind was that of an evil and righteous mind, not wanting greed, not wanting to love, not wanting to hurt, just wanting to be, his heart was in a mix of thunder as he dwelled upon his mind, his head feeling as though it was drowning yet lighter than air.
The seven gods could chase his mind from existence, and he would neither damn their name, nor curse them for their fickleness he would bless them for an accursed peace long sought by his divided and troubled mind, his soul was truly ablaze with the darkness of a night not known to any but any. His heart was truly a divide of feelings, his blood a boil with the compassion of a love long sought yet so easily feared for, his gut ablaze with compassion known to few, yet well known by many. His soul was in a ruptured chaos, well thought out, but lacking in finish, the end blurred by the pain endured, his love pushing him through, but also stopping him dead in his tracks, his mind having wish she was with her friend, out of danger, out of the hands of his foe, but his heart, his heart wanted her with all of his existence, he wished for her himself, with all of his soul he willed for her to be his, she his life, and he, nothing, if not hers.
The divided mind kept him at a utter stomach wrenching turmoil, his body shivered at the brash and divided emotions, his body quaked. Then, just as sudden as the assault, there was blissful peace, his life was what it was, and nothing more, he could do what he could, and nothing more, he was what he was, and nothing more. Then the emotions of turmoil and pain returned, stronger, like an after shock, then he was forced to deal with the sickness and gut ripping emotional pain he was coming to know, his life was shreds, and his mind was the target, his brain was the mixer of a dark and terrible combination of guilt, worry, and sadness, his soul the recipient of the jagged mixture of painful woe.
But in all his power and skill, all he could do was hope for the best, and that made him feel the worst, so, Rick just leaned back into the chair and let the world throw at him what it willed.
