The Cohen Icosahedron, Ch 10
This story is continuing to be updated thanks to reader interest. I'll post another chapter if/when suitable interest is gained on this one so make sure you fav and comment-- and don't rely on others because you never know when this spin-off will get the axe due to disinterest!
Our protagonist is a 19 year old college student named Kaiden Wilson, a Unity Programme graduate from Vancouver British Columbia, and the odd situation in which he is put thanks to a discovery of yet more versions of earth in the rapidly expanding multiple-reality-stretching world in which this story series takes place. It also introduces several of Kaiden's gryphon partners. The Viddin, as they call themselves are divided into multiple categories based on species, and overworked, over-utilized has one of each.
Kaiden's morning in class passes without anything particularly engaging until right before lunch, but, alas, he misses most of it. Fortunately Kytskir, one of his classmates, offers to help fill in the blanks over lunch. That isn't all he plans on filling, apparently. Remember: if you like this story be sure to fav-- I only update when the preceding post hits 20 favs.
As always, thank you for reading, and I appreciate all the comments and favs I receive.

Chapter 10

If given the option between being early or late, Kaiden always preferred the former, and so when it came to taking a shower that morning he made it as brief as possible while also striving to be thorough. Tral had done a magnificent job of covering him with Viddin scent (among other things) so it was still not a simple task. When he finally emerged from the shower, Kaiden had less than ten minutes to get to class. The thought of putting on his clothes from the weekend was far from appealing, so it was a pleasant surprise to emerge from the bathing chamber to see a fresh Unity Centre uniform waiting for him on the sofa.
It was so strange to see any human clothing in a Viddin room that it was dramatically out of place, and so the young man questioned it immediately. "Hey, Tral?"
His classmate was lingering in the kitchen, using his front talon to scratch at some errant pieces of meat sticking to his beak-- an indication that the large Viddin had been snacking during Kaiden's shower. Looking up and at him, Tral clicked his beak together to acknowledge his name. "You should get dressed, Kaiden. We don't have a lot of time until class begins, you know."
Kaiden acknowledged the suggestion and began to get dressed, but aired his question as he did so. "Did you just have an extra uniform laying around or something? I-- I think it's my size too."
Tral turned back around, apparently using the reflective metal surface of the sink's faucet to track the morsel of meat clinging to his beak. The gryphon called over his shoulder "I didn't have an extra one-- I had Zithing make it for you so you could have something fresh to wear today."
The announcement wasn't something easy for Kaiden to work through in his head so, rather than over-analyze it in the moment he set it aside for later consideration and kept the interaction simple. "Oh. Thanks. This is a lot better than dressing in dirty clothes."
Tral, finally done with his beak, turned back around to regard the Human, beak parted in a pleased grin, facial feathers puffed out in contentment. "I agree... and I know Humans get very picky about being clean... especially after sex."
The simple statement raised entirely too many questions in Kaiden's mind, especially because he so desperately wanted to figure out just how much Tral knew about Human outlooks when it came to sex, yet he realized he'd never have enough time to have that discussion if he wanted to be on time. "We'd better go or we'll be late."
Tral smiled his way. "I was just saying the same thing. Come... the other Viddin move aside for me. I'll give you a ride so we can get through the halls quickly."
True to his word, Tral handily and courteously bore Kaiden to class. The image of a Human riding a Viddin down the hallways of the Centre like some kind of knight on an avian-feline steed must have been quite the sight to see but for Kaiden the experience was just as embarrassing as it was magical; he got plenty of critical looks from other Human classmates... and one or two Viddin.
They arrived with scarcely two minutes to remain and, as Kaiden ducked down to avoid hitting his head on the top frame of the classroom door he slid off Tral, landing beside him. Once dismounted, Kaiden's immediate concern would be the attention of his classmates but, as he glanced around the room, the Human was pleased to see that almost all of his study group was just getting situated and too busy in their own affairs to worry about him. Kytskir was busy speaking with Sokkas, the group's leopard/vulture Viddin; Nittik and Prirn were deep in two-way conversation at a speed that made Kaiden's head spin. Hahn was busy addressing Vetlyk who--
Kaiden paused when he realized the regal lion/eagle was staring right at him. Apparently not ALL of his study group failed to notice him. The young man raised a hand in greeting to Vetlyk, who, in response, merely blinked his nicticating membranes then looked back to Hahn, responding with a single word before turning away to push his beak through his shoulder pack as if searching through its contents. Perhaps it was Kaiden's imagination, but he was almost certain that Vetlyk was disapproving.
Approaching the table, the young man was ready to greet everyone but, before he could, Vetlyk spoke up first. Beak still rummaging through his satchel, the lion/eagle gryphon acknowledged his presence. "It is good you are on time, Classmate. Prirn would have objected if class started without you."
Hearing his name called, the lynx/falcon's attention was drawn immediately to Kaiden and the Viddin's beak parted in so large a smile the Human's mind compared him to a hatchling gaping wide for food from a parent. Prirn's greeting was light and full of adoration. "There you are, Takket. I was getting worried."
The entirety of the study group's attention went immediately to Prirn the moment the word 'Takket' left his beak. A hush prevailed in their little corner for several heartbeats, giving Kaiden enough time to take his seat until Nittik broke the silence with verve. "Yeah... I was starting to think you slept in, Kawkikik... I figured that we might just have rubbed off on you a little too much."
The phrasing choice of 'rubbed off' didn't escape Kaiden's notice and, apparently, it was also picked up by several other members of the study group; a combination of shuffling feathers, clacking beaks, and some muted snickers replaced the stunned silence and Kaiden didn't feel that it was much of an improvement. Vetlyk, eyes still on Kaiden, opened his beak to speak, expression obviously one of intense inquiry but Kytskir came to the rescue. "Okay... class is starting. Save it for later, everyone."
It was a rocky start to the day but things largely returned to normal once instruction began. Kaiden was overjoyed that the topic for discussion was mundane-bordering-on-boring as Instructor McMillan reviewed modern Human history for the benefit of the Viddin and Instructor Tjaval then went over recent Viddin history for the benefit of the Humans. Kaiden had never really been a fan of learning history from his own Earth and, in the case of Plateau Earth, the specifics were far more tedious, but that was because there was so little of note.
Kaiden's expanded understanding of the gryphons led him to believe that most Viddin thought of Human culture as a volatile shifting of power, control and intent. They saw innate issues with Humanity due to fractured global politics and the fact that Humans couldn't even agree on how many countries officially exited on Land Earth-- it didn't help that countries changed names, merged or even disappeared completely due to rising sea levels. At first Kaiden didn't completely understand their point but, after spending some time among them and learning about Viddin history it made more sense.
Before moving to Plateau Earth, all Human students had to undergo basic world training and that included learning about the geopolitical climate-- a system that had been in place for over 1000 years. The realization of the calcified condition of Viddin territories was a big shock to Kaiden, who was used to the 10 provinces and three territories adding a fourth territory during his lifetime or, crazier yet, the United States to the south; they had only fifty one states when he'd been born but added three in the nineteen years since.
Still, despite how boring an expanded study on the immutable borders of the Viddin territories, Kaiden was pleased that the discussion went a little deeper, covering the lands of each Viddin subspecies but also the eighth territory which represented a 'neutral ground' of sorts where Viddin could gather in a unified community. It was little surprise then that the Untiy Centre was located within those lands and most of the Viddin students and staff were local residents with few exceptions.
Instructor McMillan went off on a tangent regarding the United Nations and Kaiden's mind wandered to the consideration of Vetlyk and Tral, both of whom were two of those excluded from the majority. They were each from neighboring territories but sent as representatives to learn within the Centre. Despite that, they were welcomed into the Unity Programme by the Viddin with the same open acceptance as any of the Humans and there appeared to be very little 'national sentiment' among the gryphons. All-in-all, the Viddin seemed to have an easier time dealing with one another and that was one reason why--
His train of thought was derailed when Instructor Tjaval changed topics. "Which brings us to the Ilsit."
The words immediately heralded in a resurgence of interest, not just from Kaiden, but apparently from every other Human in class. Eyes focused up front and the rest of Kaiden's peers stared in rapt attention for any further information the huge gryphon teacher would be willing to impart. A pretty, south east Asian student naed Badeea interjected though, despite her concern it was evident that she was hoping to have her objection shot down. "I thought we were not supposed to be learning about the Ilsit, Muealim Tjaval..."
The large Viddin instructor clicked his beak a few times before responding to her in what Kaiden was pretty sure was Arabic. "Walaa yhimmik, taliba."
Nittik, who was laying in Kaiden's lap, raised his beak and murmured quietly "He told her not to worry, Classmate."
Prirn, who was leaning against the young man's left him raised his head and snapped his beak in warning, regarding Nittik as he did so. "He didn't ask. Shush-- Humans can't focus on multiple conversations at once."
Suddenly faced with the prospect of dealing with his study group, Kaiden did lose track of the conversation as Instructor Tjaval explained that the introduction of the Ilsit to Plateau Earth more than two thousand years before Humans was an important component of Viddin history and shaped the modern world for them. The rest of the discussion was lost to him as he had to make sure that nobody caused a scene. Fortunately they didn't; unfortunately he failed to take in the lesson about how the reptilian race from another version of Earth... did... something? Kaiden sighed as he realized that he'd missed something he truly wanted to learn about in order to keep everyone playing nice.
Lunch followed, with the class slowly filtering out. Since he and his study group were seated at a corner table, Kaiden and immediate Viddin classmates were stuck waiting for the rows through the room to empty. While he sat patiently, biding his time for the opportunity to make his way out, Kytskir slid closer toward him. "I am sorry about the interruption, Classmate. It appeared that the other Human students were very eager to learn about the Ilsit but you were too busy keeping the peace. Were you able to absorb the lesson?"
Vetlyk, who was still seated as well (a rarity for him since he usually used his higher social standing to force his way through any crowd) interjected. "We are a study group. Anything the zfielt didn't learn will be our responsibility to help teach him."
Kytskir didn't bother looking back at Vetlyk, the smaller Viddin's big, strigine eyes remained focused wholly on Kaiden. "I am very familiar with the Ilsit and will assist you during lunch. I will fill in the gaps of what you missed."
Kaiden was relieved to know that he had several classmates who could and that he'd already received an invitation to study, but Nittik did not help the situation by adding in "Yeah... Kyt hasn't had a chance to fill in his gap yet."
Hahn, the cougar/hawk Viddin to whom Nittik had been speaking managed to stifle a squawking giggle and both got a scathing glance from Prirn, who stepped over the smallest of the bunch while squeezing past Hanh. Both ignored the interruption and, for a moment, it looked like they were about to go back to gossiping and humor until they glanced at Vetlyk; they both immediately wilted beneath his critical gaze. Only once they'd fallen silent did the lion/eagle speak up. "I will instruct our Zfielt classmate as I have experience with the Ilsit."
Kytskir continued watching Kaiden even as he spoke back to Vetlyk. "So does Tral and so do I. You two have already had time with him. HuuStoosk, Classmate."
The English word 'share' was a simple and straight-forward one that could be used in a number of ways to mean roughly the same concept: take something of limited scope and divide it between or among a number of parties. Viddin had a variety of words each with a slightly different usage, and 'HuuStook' was one such utilization of a more complex version of 'share': one subject to be utilized by multiple parties requiring the taking of turns. The thought lodged a deep indignant obection in Kaiden's mind but, at the same time, sent a tingle of excitement and arousal up his spine. Sighing to himself, the young man realized that he may not have initiated the mess in which he found himself, but he also hadn't exactly done anything to keep it from happening either.
* * * * *
Lunch and studying took place at Kytskir's apartment; it was of comparable size to Kaiden's own and, surprisingly, was similarly furnished. Unlike most other Viddin, the cheetah/owl Viddinek species had more manual dexterity with their talons and more flexible hip joints, allowing them to pivot and rotate on their hind legs with no real discomfort. Kaiden had never really considered what that might mean for living space but the last thing he'd anticipated was to see Kytskir trot over to a large armchair and flop down onto it rump first. His posture was a far cry from how a Human would sit in it, but he definitely fared much better than most Viddin, who would have to flop across the arm rests.
His host was direct. "I can prepare lunch for us and then we can talk about the Ilsit over our meal or, if you prefer, we can talk first and eat later. What would be your preference, Classmate?"
Considering Kaiden's carnal weekend the fact that his eyes went to what lay displayed before him on the cushion of the chair between Kytskir's spread legs was worthy of forgiveness so the Human managed to shrug it off, but the more pressing question of food versus education was not any great challenge in his mind. There was one big issue however. "Are YOU cooking, or am I? I mean... CAN you cook?"
It was an innocent enough question in Kaiden's mind but the indignant expression on his classmate's beak informed him that he'd made a misstep, and Kytskir's follow up comment elaborated. "I have been self sufficient ever since I was fledged, Classmate... and that includes a familiarity with Human cuisine."
The Viddin rolled out of the chair and onto all fours, passing by the Human as he proceeded into the kitchen. Kaiden was quick to apologies. "Oh-- I didn't mean--"
Kytskir silenced him with a lash of his tail across Kaiden's chest. "I am dedicated to learning everything about Humans, Classmate. Come... you can give me cooking pointers while I prepare food and I, though it was rather little, I can inform you of what we discussed about the Ilsit in class today."
As it turned out, Kytskir COULD cook, granted, it was a rather simple meal of pan toasted hot sandwiches comprised of some kind of thinly sliced meat, a peppery-smelling leafy herb and thick slabs of tomato. Kaiden didn't miss the fact that everything was precut but, even so, watching the Viddin manage to careful work the pan and spatula was still something to behold. As he cooked, Kytskir provided some history of the Viddin and Ilsit interaction. "Back when the Ilsit first crossed into Plateau Earth the Viddin didn't know there were other Earths."
Kaiden remained quiet, listening to Kytskir as the Viddin cooked. While his classmate was managing to manipulate a large jar of salt, however, he took the opportunity to ask a question. "Did the Viddin and Ilsit get along right away?"
Kytskir clacked his beak to the affirmative, seasoned the tomatoes, and laid them on the brad in the pan. "It took a few centuries but our species ended up working well together and so they integrated into our society. Until they arrived it was the Viddinek such as myself who were in charge of all of the fine manufacturing, but the Iksit drones did a far better job of it... almost as good as Humans."
The Viddin carefully closed up the sandwiches, folding the meat-and-bread half onto the tomato-and-herb half. As Kytskir manipulated the bread, Kaiden followed up with another question. "Someone said something about the Viddin and Ilsit visiting Land Earth?"
His classmate emptied the pan's two toasted sandwiches onto a cutting board and gestured to them. "Cut these please, classmate.... and yes-- about two millennia ago the Ilsit helped the Viddin activate the Gateway between Plateau Earth and Land Earth. We were very careful and wary of Humans because your kind were very warlike and savage. I've heard several delegates talk about Human legends, which is why you call us 'gryphons', and the stories you have about 'd--"
"Dragons."
Kytskir walked past him, smacking Kaiden in the butt with his tail. "I know the name. I was going to say it... come... bring our food to the table and we can eat and talk further."
The sandwich turned out to be a unique experience. Kaiden was familiar with pannini but what the Viddin had prepared was not quite the same, resembling a grilled cheese more... though it lacked cheese. While dairy wasn't poisonous or dangerous to the Viddin it often resulted in stomach upset and other unpleasant side-effects related to it. The Human certainly didn't want to think about one having diarrhea while in flight-- and, by thinking about not wanting to think about it he did, of course, think about it.
Almost as if reading his mind, Kytskir looked up from his own mostly finished sandwich and spoke. "Many of the recipes I have encountered for sandwiches also utilize cheese, though I did not include any as it is not common here and it would have adverse affects. I hope you do not mind its omission."
Kaiden finished off his own meal as his classmate spoke. Brushing the crumbs off his hands with the cloth napkin his host had provided, the young man shook his head. "Oh, no... it's good. Really good. Normally the meat here on Plateau Earth is really gamey, but this was-- what are you doing, Kyt?"
In the time it took Kaiden to speak, Kytskir had trotted the short distance across the table and plopped his hindquarters down on the floor next to the Human's chair and leaned his shoulders and head against Kaiden's side. In response to Kaiden's question, the Viddin announced "As I have said, Classmate, I have spent several years learning about Humans, and, considering our other classmates have already opened up the topic, I was looking for the opportunity to explore you sexually. Is this not a good way to initiate physical intimacy?"
The direct statement should have caught Kaiden by surprise but, having spent an entire weekend with several of his classmates already lusting after him he was only slightly off-guard. Further, Kytskir had always approached interpersonal communication in an awkward way; Kaiden was convinced that the cheetah/owl would have been diagnosed as being 'on the spectrum' were he a Human, but, regardless, at least it made the interaction a lot easier for him. "We don't have a lot of lunch time left... are you sure that's all the time you want?"
Kytskir rubbed the top of his head against Kaiden's shoulder. "I realize you are in high demand, Classmate, so I will accept whatever time of yours I can. I believe in a fair HuuStoosk, so I hope you will not be offended if I ration my time with you over multiple encounters."
Kaiden couldn't stop the statement from escaping him. "How romantic."
The owl/cheetah's huge eyes stared at him, blinking blankly. "Oh... that was not an attempt at romance. Would you like romance, Classmate? I'm certain if I had time to study it I could effectively--"
The Human raised a hand to halt his host. "No... that's okay, Kyt. I don't think we have a lot of time for romance right now. Did you have a preference for where you want to do this? I guess you'll want to try out my hand like everyone else since they--"
Kytskir's huge eyes blinked again. "Another time, perhaps, thank you, Classmate. I would actually like for you to disrobe, please."
The statement caught Kaiden off-guard. "Me? Why?"
The Viddin cocked his head to the side or, more specifically, rotated it nearly 80 degrees, staring at him with one eye almost over the other. "I did say I desire learning more about you and your kind... that is much easier if there is no clothing in the way."
"Okay... I guess..."
Rolling his eyes, Kaiden stood up and began taking off his clothing, wondering to himself if he was just some kind of learning aid for his classmate. Approaching the situation like another class lesson or as if he were some kind of lab project was a far cry from erotic, let alone romantic, but he had already doffed his shirt and was unbuckling his slacks when Kytskir's next words escaped him, rumbling deep within his throat. "Slower, Kaiden... much slower..."
It was the first time Kaiden could recall ever having heard Kytskir call him by name rather than just 'Classmate' but, more than that, it was also the first time he'd experienced the Viddin use any real tonal inflection to his voice, which was somewhere between a purr and a growl. The Human immediately withdrew his earlier objection about clinical interaction; turning to regard Kytskir he saw that his classmate was already sporting a respectable amount of firm flesh poking out of his sheath. The sight made Kaiden smile. "Slower, huh?"
Rather than respond verbally, Kytskir simply gave him a double-snap of his beak in agreement, feathers on his body puffing up as his spotted, furred hide shook as if itching. Humoring his classmate, Kaiden took meticulous care in unbuckling his belt and then ever-so-slowly unbuttoned his slacks, turning around as he lowered the zipper, easing the cloth down inch by inch until they hit the ground and only then did he step out of them, turning around to regard Kytskir in only his underwear; the Viddin was still seated, but his flesh was at full mast, bobbing in time with his heartbeat, leaking a respectable amount of precum.
Kytskir remained where he was, staring. His beak opened and closed twice before his spade-shaped tongue lashed out to lick at each corner. Only then did he speak up. "We can go to the bathroom... the walls are tiled and the floors are linoleum. It will be easier to clean up in there."
Kaiden really couldn't find any reason to object and so he moved in the direction indicated by a gesture his host made with his beak. The gryphon stepped into line behind him, much closer than Kytskir usually chose to walk. The young man came to a stop just outside the entrance to the bathroom, but the Viddin didn't. At first, Kaiden thought that Kytskir had bumped into him by accident, but the loud snuffle from the gryphon and the pressure against his underwear from behind told him that the interaction was far from accidental. That, and the follow up statement. "I will enjoy exploring you with every one of my senses, Kaiden."
There was something exciting about getting a peek behind the curtain when it came to Kytskir. The owl/cheetah was usually so reserved and impersonal that it was a unique experience seeing him so engaged. Stepping into the bathroom, Kaiden realized that it was just as much by his own volition as it was him being herded in by his host. Moving to stand by the counter, the young man turned back around to regard his classmate. "So, how do you want to--"
Rather than wait for Kaiden to finish speaking, Kytskir bumped him with his head. Although he was far from the largest Viddin breed, Kytskir was still plenty large and the motion was enough to force the Human to turn back around, bracing himself against the counter to maintain his balance. A moment later he felt the tip of a beak against the small of his back and, in a split second, it had cut through the elastic of his underwear; the cloth fell down to his ankles, presenting his body to the room. Kytskir let out a gleeful trill and, before Kaiden could admonish him, the Human was surprised when the beak delved into the cleft between his cheeks.
Gasping, Kaiden went up to his tip toes at that, surprised and a little alarmed by the unexpected maneuver. Kytskir's beak was hard, but not unyielding like a rock, and it was also warm. Viddin beaks could cause a lot of damage but his classmate was gentle and, Kaiden quickly realized, Kytskir wasn't planning on using it; that became all the more apparent when the Human felt the gryphon's pointed tongue slipping inside his body and he took in a hiss through his clenched teeth in surprise. A moment later he repeated the sound as the bony digits of a Viddin talon gently gripped his testicles. "Hey!"
The touch was far more surprising than it was unpleasant and, as Kytskir began to gently roll them around Kaiden was able to grow just a little more comfortable at the unanticipated attention. Within a minute, he began to enjoy the attention and was honestly pleased with the gryphon's unexpected skill. Kytskir finally pulled his beak back and his talon unwrapped itself from Kaiden's sac. "I hope my initial examination wasn't too unpleasant."
Still panting from the attention, the Human simply shook his head. "N-no... you're... really good at this."
Kytskir's nares reddened just a little and his feathers puffed out even more. Kaiden didn't miss the fact that a large pool of pre had formed on the tile beneath where the gryphon had been located, but that assessment was put on hold when the Viddin posed a question. "I am pleased you think so, Kaiden, but, may I ask, do you trust me?"
Considering the trust that he'd already instilled in Kytskir by what intimacy they'd already shared it seemed like a silly thing to be asking at that point but he provided an answer nevertheless. "Trust you? Sure. Why?"
The Viddin let out another deep-chested rumble, his generously-sized shaft tensing and shooting out a thick jet of precum that was easily the volume of one of Kaiden's ejaculations. Kytskir murmured his answer in what the Human could only compare to a bedroom voice. "I would very much like to mount you."
The statement took Kaiden's breath way. Sure, he had managed to take Prirn, but Kytskir was a good size larger bodily and seemed to be respectively well endowed. Their lunch break was almost half over so there was not a lot of time. Viddin could get very energetic and, with so little time left it would be easier for Kytskir to be careless. There was a very real chance that Kaiden could be hurt. Would any sane person even conider the prospect of being mounted by a Viddin? It was a horrible idea. "...okay."
