Virtually Real Part 48: Rollercoaster Rides.
While the Shadow Runner is in dry dock the family takes a little vacation on Earth starting with Japan. Trying their best to keep their true identities hidden isn't as easy as one might suspect.
Virtually Real part 48: Roller Coaster Rides.
Characters:
Prowl-Ar/Tiger (Bill): Captain, human shifter, tiger/wolf hybrid has black fur and white stripes.
Jordan/Wolf (Jason): Doctor, human shifter, wolf all black fur
Kyle/Drake (Nick): Second in command, Red XIII quadrimorph spends most of his time as a red Eastern anthro Dragon with Red XII markings
Kelly/Shock/Fox (Kenny): Streaming reporter/diplomat, former transgender human shifter tiger/fox hybrid standard red fox with yellow stripes
Rider/Saber/Peter: Anthro Sabretooth Cat, part of the MAS (Mobile Armor Suit) game
Rin/Snowpaws/Snow (Rain): Human shifter, lynx adopted by the Runners
Russell/Frost: Eastern Dragon/otter hybrid created in a virtual reality and given life son of Prowl-Ar and Kyle
Mahan: The Shadow Runner’s A.I. computer
"Can you tell me why?" Kyle asked.
Mahan brought us in over the Indian Ocean. Smoothly dropping us into a dead zone while overwriting multiple systems making it seem we were on an arranged flight path from South Africa to Japan with two refueling stops
"Why what?" I asked rolling over to face him.
Peter, the human name Rider had chosen for himself, Jordan, and Kelly were in the lounge having a very serious discussion.
"About why you chose to have cubs with Wolf. You can barely keep up with Frost and Rin."
Those two had chosen to get some sleep. I'd hoped to get some as well, but Kyle didn't seem to be in a cuddling mood. "I know, but he wanted kids and you know full well I can't really say no to any of you. Not that I wanted to. If he had asked you, would you have told him no?"
"I . . . no, I'd have said yes as well." He sighed.
"Remember that when he asks you." I laughed.
"What?" Kyle asked, in surprise.
"I think our wolf wants to have kids with all of his mates. It seems he wants a big family."
"This was a one-time deal right? As soon as we get back you're going to make yourself incompat-"
I cut him off. "I can't. I've overused the Evolver. Mahan told Wolf I can use it one or two more times for minor things, but that was a lie. If I try to adjust myself again my body will completely breakdown into its composite elements. Basically I'll melt. Of course I'll be restored using the sentinel program, but I’m not really sure it'll be the same me."
"You said you tested it."
"I have, a couple of times, and those individuals never knew they were a copy of themselves. The process works flawlessly. However, I have no real proof that the soul is transferred. I'm afraid if something happens to me I'll end up taking you and Shock with me."
"Shh, nothing is going to happen to you. You have the four of us to protect you just as you protect us."
I cuddled up next to Kyle, closed my eyes, and immediately opened them again to the sound of Shock growling at me. Somehow I was in the cabin with the rest of my mates.
"I'm telling you, you messed up big time. Tiger hasn't recovered and you used that to get what you want. I've been with him long enough to know he wouldn't have done this." Shock growled.
It took me a moment to realize I was in control of Wolf's body. "I'm sorry, he's right I-" I started to say.
"Love, if I hadn't wanted this . . . Okay, Shock is right, I do have reservations, but I love you and I know you will be a good parent. More than that you will help me to be a better parent as well. Now let me deal with our upset fox." I moved to one of the lounge chairs ignoring Shock. "Tell me Rider, what do you think?"
"I'm angry. I really wish you'd chosen me. However they will be your cubs and I swear I'll always protect them as my own." Rider said.
"Of course you're going to take Wolf's side." Shock snarled.
"And what is your side? Are you suggesting I, I-" I couldn't say it.
"NO! God no! I'm just upset you took advantage of our mate when he was feeling weak and afraid. I'm sure it was consensual." Shock quickly backed away as if bitten. At least as far away as the small cabin allowed.
"Did you think to ask me . . . or him why he would go to the trouble of making ourselves compatible if, at least some part of him, didn't want it?" I asked.
I could tell from the look Rider gave me that he'd noticed my slip up.
"And upset him more than he already is? Even Kyle can't calm him, it seems. Can you even sense how upset he is right now? You want me to believe he isn't running himself down thinking he is going to fail?"
"Did you think the reason he’s upset could be because he can feel how upset you are. Tell me, if I'd asked you, 'would you have cubs with me' what would you say?" I asked.
"I . . ." Shock trailed off in thought. "For so long I've feared having children. I- with everything . . ."
I quickly moved over and hugged him. "I'm sorry, I should have taken what happened to you into consideration."
"Prowl-Ar told you?" Shock asked, as he started to cry.
"Oh my little Foxy, don't blame Wolf, I'm controlling his body. It's my fault not his. Still that is part of your medical records so he knows, and I think you should talk to Rider. I-" Everything started to fade. "Wolf, how do you . . ." I could feel Kyle holding me, keeping me safe as I succumbed to total exhaustion.
***
I woke to the feeling of being shaken.
"Bill, we're arriving in Japan. Kyle, Jordan, Peter, Russell, and Rin are waiting for us in the lounge for landing."
It took me a moment to sort out the names. "Kelly, my foxy fox, you could have let me sleep until we were on the ground."
"Not if we're going to maintain our cover. Customs officers are going to inspect the cabin and crew to be sure we are tourists and not here to ‘cause problems' for a furry friendly nation."
"Of course." I got up and stumbled into the lounge section. It felt strange seeing everyone in human form. "Right then, activate personal cloaking devices." Almost everyone's features altered so that we no longer looked like ourselves. Everyone except Rider. His human form was barely familiar to us and there was no way he'd be recognized by the public.
We all took seats and a couple of minutes later the customs agent, and three guards entered. "Good morning. I'm sorry, but I must ask you a few questions."
"We completely understand, it's not your fault the world is in such turmoil. Please ask whatever questions you like. Also feel free to inspect our luggage, we have nothing to hide."
The agent nodded at two of the guards who quickly proceeded toward the steeping areas.
"I must say, you speak as though you were born here."
"Thank you." I replied.
The customs agent smiled. "May I see your passports please?" He looked rather stunned at the seven Furry Nation passports. "You're furrys?"
"We've all been accepted into the new nation, but I'm actually just furry adjacent. My husband Peter and our son Kenny are both furrys. My brother Jason and his husband Nick are also furrys, though I'm not sure about Rain and Russell, my niece and nephew."
"We're both furrys, and you know it, Uncle." Rin said, quickly.
"Sir, there is no contraband and they do have multiple high quality fursuits." The guards said, as they returned.
The agent nodded and made a note on his pad. "So what brings you to our country?"
"Tourism, the kids want to visit the theme parks and I'd like to visit a few cultural locations."
"Sir, we've finished our post flight checks, and your car is running late due to traffic." Mahan said, exiting the cockpit.
The guards seemed startled but the agent just smiled. You must be Markus Pike."
Mahan bowed. "I am indeed. I'd introduce my co-pilot Amy Hart, but she just settled down to get some sleep. Besides we rarely leave the plane anyway."
"I'll still need to check your passports."
"No problem."
I noticed their passports were U.S. issued.
"So you're not part of the Furry Nation?"
"No, I like going home once in a while. Still, unlike some fools, I'm not going to stand against them." He laughed, "Honestly the Furrys pay better, and have better health and retirement plans than anyone else. Until another employer comes along with a better deal, I work exclusively with Furrys."
"Fair enough. How long will you be staying?"
"A week at least, maybe two, definitely less than three." I replied.
"Ok, I think that's about it. I'll leave one of the guards, outside, until your transport arrives. Please enjoy your stay.”
We all stood bowed and the customs agent and the guards exited the pane.
"Cultural locations?" Rin asked.
"Yes, I didn't get a chance to do much the last time I was here. I'm thinking an onsen would be nice, I would like to visit Mount Fuji again, The Dragon Zen garden maybe, and a couple of other places. However the first stop will be the hotel."
"We're not staying at the embassy?" Frost asked.
"No, we're not going there unless we get into real trouble. Remember, we're tourists, not Shadow Runners on this trip. We wouldn't want to cut it short just because someone figures out who we really are."
"I have a question, what is up with your choices in ID? It seem, really messed up." Fox asked angrily.
"I'm the one that set your identities. It allows for the most interactions." Mahan stated.
"But why do I have to be the odd one out?" He whined.
"Because of your age. However it also lets you interact much more freely. Now the car has arrived."
***
The hotel wasn't spacious, but it wasn't cramped either. Obviously being designed for tourists. Kyle and Wolf had a suite with connected room for Rin and Frost. While Rider, Shock and I were in a triple a couple floors down. It wasn't ideal but it would work. Once we had our rooms we met in the lobby.
"So, what is the plan?" Shock asked.
"I'm thinking shopping and relaxing today." I replied.
"Ah, I thought we were going to the amusement park." Frost complained.
"We will, but not on the first day." Wolf said, "So just what do you have planned?"
I smiled, "I'm taking the rest of the day to explore on my own."
"Uncle, what if you have an episode like on the train when you were taking me to school? I think I should go with you. I've already seen everything so I'm not going to miss out."
"Brother, I think it would be a good idea. Spending a bit of time with Rain will do you both good."
I shrugged, "That's fine but it's going to be a boring day. Just remember we have reservations for dinner at eight so we should meet back here by six at the latest. Oh, and it will be formal."
I headed out and Rin quickly followed. I wasn't surprised to find a car waiting.
"Sir, if I may, what is our destination?" One of Mahan drone drivers asked as we got in.
"Yeah, where are we going first?" Rin asked.
"Take us to the embassy." I switched my image to the business man I imitated before.
"Um, I thought you said we wouldn’t be going there because it was too dangerous." Rin said, as she narrowed her eyes. If I'm having to share my room with Frost and you're sneaking off to . . ."
"I'm checking up on how things are going."
"Everything is fine. Mahan said, taking full control of the drone. "If there was a problem Shock would tell you."
"Would he?"
"Dad!" Rin said loudly, "Do you really think he would lie to you?"
"I . . . no." Now I felt guilty again. "Change of plans drop us off at the closest train station."
"Are you sure?" Both Rin and Mahan said at the same time.
"Yes, it's the easiest access to where I want to go."
"And where is that?"
"Shibuya station."
"Why?" Rin asked.
"It may sound crazy, but I'd like to see if the Hachiko statue is still there."
"Of course the shrine is still there." Mahan quickly responded.
"Good, while we're there we'll come up with plans for the next couple of weeks."
***
I was surprised that I didn't have another panic attack. It might have been because the train was slightly less crowded or Rin constantly keeping my mind engaged and focused. I thought it might be the effect of having a crew to deal with was acclimating me to being in crowds, but quickly rejected the idea.
As we got off the train Rin helped guide me through the underground mall. Just outside the exit we picked up a magazine telling about different tourist destinations and times they were open. We sat in the little park near the Hachiko statue.
As Rin flipped through the magazine I smiled at the statue. For so long I identified with the story. Like Hachiko I was always waiting for someone that would never come. I sniffled a bit and wiped away a tear. I'd found the ones I needed, and I said a little prayer that Hachi had been reunited with his owner in his next life.
"Dad, are you okay?"
"Yeah, just . . ."
Rin gave me a look she had to have learned from Wolf or Shock. "If you say you just had something in your eye, I'll punch you."
"No, just thinking about how lonely he must have been." I said nodding at the statue.
"What do you mean? It's just a statue of a dog. It doesn't have any meaning. There have been a couple of times where they thought about removing it, but it's sort of a shrine and no one- Um who are you calling?"
I'd pulled out what looked like a smart phone but was actually my uplink to the ship. "Mahan, please make sure the right people are informed of the story and importance of the Shibuya monument to Hachiko."
"I hadn't realized that information had been lost. Japan was one of the countries that did an astounding job retaining their history and culture.
"I'll make sure the original story is 'rediscovered' as soon as possible." He replied.
"Thank you, goodbye."
"Is it really that important?" Rin asked.
I explained the story of how Hachiko would come to the station every day to wait for his owner. Even after his owner's unexpected death Hachi loyally continued coming to the station to wait for the rest of his life. The statue was a memorial to his undying loyalty. When I finished I was surprised we had collected quite a crowd.
Rin pulled me away before they could ask questions but I heard at least one older lady say "I've passed by here every day and I never knew."
We ended up in a pizza restaurant of all places.
"I've always wanted to come here but it isn't traditional so I wasn't allowed." Rin whispered.
"Then you order whatever you want to try."
Rin grinned and waved over a server. After her third slice she grinned. "So where to next?"
"I don't really know. I only had the two stops and you convinced me not to make the first one so we have a few hours before we need to go back and get changed for dinner. What would you like to do?"
"It's kind of far but there's a model kit shop I'd like to visit. Not to buy anything! "She quickly exclaimed. “It’s the shop where I used to buy all my kits. I got to know the owners and it's where the diorama you helped on supposedly ended up. I know I can't let them know who we are but I'd still like to see the shop again. I guess that doesn't make much sense."
"Actually, I still visit places from my own childhood when I'm feeling nostalgic."
Rin glanced around real quick. "Yeah, but like the statue it's just not the same as actually being there."
I glanced around now as well making sure no one noticed us. "Yeah, but most of the places I go no longer exist."
***
As we walked in the store I was stunned. It was like there were kits for every aspect of the MAS game. Rin's diorama was set up in a glass case in the middle of the shop. Admittedly I copied the design from kits from my time, but to see the base models from the original company sporting the MAS imprint was strange.
"Uncle, look at this! They have a new range of custom parts not seen in the game!" Rin said excitedly. I nodded and acted like the indifferent adult humoring his niece. Though inside I was already thinking of how best to utilize the enhancement parts.
"I see your niece likes the Mobile Armor System kits."
I turned to the young man who had spoken. "Yes, since she started watching the show she's been obsessed with making her own customs."
"Careful, or she'll turn out like one of the characters. Rin, the girl about your niece's age, actually used to shop here. That was before joining the Shadow Runners and building her own suit in the game."
"Oh, I've already done that." Rin said with a laugh. "It's just hard getting enough time for models, school, and the game."
"Oh please excuse me." The man said, as the only other customer in the store placed multiple kits on the counter.
"Um, Dad, look at this."
I was about to remind Rin to be more careful when I noticed what she was pointing at. It was a small section of kits of the human characters. I picked up one of myself from the shelf and read the box. In the small print I found that my likeness had been licensed by one of Mahan's front companies.
"Those don't really sell as well as the MAS kits." The clerk said, as he returned. "Sad really because it's obvious they put a lot of work into making them accurate. I just wish the Runners would license their other likenesses. I know those would sell." He said, as he directed our attention to a display of customs a few being of the Runner's anthro forms.
"It looks like you're doing well with the other kits." Rin interrupted.
"Oh yes they sell really well. Everyone playing the game, it seems, buys the kits and builds their perfect suit before wasting game points."
"Wish I'd thought of that." Rin said, with a sigh. She picked up a box of her own suit and shook her head. "They used the wrong custom parts on this one." She proceeded to look over the selection of upgrade kits. "Do you mind if I use the builder's room to. . ." Rin trailed off, looking horrified.
"You're not a new customer." The clerk said, looking at Rin closely. "Only a select few know about the custom builder room. Who are you?"
I ignored him walking over to the paint section and chose a gold paint pen. I proceeded to open it, shake it a few times and then I signed the cover of the kit of myself, which I'd neglected to put back on the shelf.
"Hey! What are you doing?" The clerk yelled seeming to come out of a trance.
"Just defacing this box. So you think Ri-Rain here could uses that room she mentioned? I asked, handing the clerk the signed box.
"You're . . . and she's . . . Mom! You need to come down here!"
"Did you forget everything while you were away at that school?" An attractive, seemingly young woman asked entering from behind the counter.
"No, but these aren't ordinary customers."
"Is that paint on that box? You’re waving around?"
"Mom, its Rin."
"Were you day dreaming about her again? I told you, you should have told her how you felt a long time ago."
"MOM!"
I'm not sure which one blushed more the clerk or Rin.
"Don't use that tone of voice with me. You've been crushing on her since she first came in here."
"Um Ma'am, my niece would like to use the builder's room."
I took a step back as she turned and glared at me. "Who are you? I've never seen either of you before and only special customers know about the private builder's room."
"Aunty Chiyo, it's me, Rin. I'm just wearing a disguise so no one knows we're here on vacation. Oh and for the record, Ryu's already told me he has feelings for me."
"Ok, now I know you're lying. He'd never-"
"Rain, you can turn off your mask for a few seconds." I said, making sure no one was about to enter the store.
Rin turned off the mask, grinned, and turned it back on again. "Ryu told me how upset you were when you found out what had happened. It's why, when Dad said we were returning to Japan I knew I'd find a way to visit you."
"Maybe we can see each other more once we move to one of the colonies." Ryu said.
From the look on his mother's face I could tell it was an old argument. "So one of you is a furry?" I asked.
Rin laughed, "Aunty Chiyo is a cabbit. She's the one who took me to my first convention."
I shook my head and smiled at the stunned look she was giving Rin.
I had to remember to have Mahan fast track their applications if they decided to immigrate. "If you do decide to move just go to the embassy. You’ll find the process to be quick and simple since Rin is vouching for you."
"Great, now that everything is settled can I go build this kit properly? Once I'm done I'll leave it for you to display along with the list of parts needed to build it correctly."
"Of course, your tools are where you left them, I couldn't bring myself to move them. Ryu, why don't you join her? Lord knows you're not going to get anything done out here right now." The two of them exited through what I'd assumed was a stock room door.
"Would you like some tea while we wait?"
I was caught off guard, but I didn't want to be rude. "I wouldn't want to be a bother."
"Not at all, just watch the shop for a few minutes." She disappeared behind the counter again.
Only moments after she was gone three boys entered. They immediately started looking at the MAS kits.
"Can I help you?" I asked.
"Yeah, what's the difference between an infantry suit and a standard suit?" one of them said with a cocky grin.
"In terms of playability not a lot, besides points needed to buy it. The Infantry suit has less armor but slightly better speed. The biggest difference is in control. The infantry suit is more prone to break downs and jerky movements due to the way they are mass produced."
"What about an elite suit or the new designs coming out?"
"The other suits are much more expensive, even though the model kits are the same price, I suggest you save up for any of those suits. The custom parts are compatible with all the suits. I couldn't say anything about new kits but they'll probably be similar to the elite models."
"How do you know so much?" The boy who hadn't spoken yet asked, skeptically.
Oh, I've been playing since the game was released. I started with an enhanced suit and worked my way up to an elite suit."
"Why are you in a small shop like this?"
"What is that supposed to mean?" Ryu's mother said as she returned placing the tea service on the counter.
"Oh! Aunty Chiyo! I didn't mean anything bad. It's just I've never seen this guy here before, but he's acting like he works here."
"I'm sorry, I was just being helpful. I'm here because this is the store the Shadow Runners use."
"Lier!" The skeptical one yelled.
"Akira, that is no way to speak."
"That diorama, do you dispute that it is Rin Nightiger's work?" I asked.
"No, but she wasn't a Shadow Runner when she did that, and when she shopped here." The first boy pointed out.
"What if I said I have proof that Prowl-Ar himself has visited my store?"
All three boys looked at Aunty Chiyo. "How?" the second asked.
I happen to have a kit he signed for Ryu."
I stifled a laugh as Aunty Chiyo produced the kit I'd signed earlier.
"I don't believe it." The skeptical one said in surprise.
"Neither do I." The first agreed.
"No, I mean that is his signature. My brother got a signed comic at the convention they crashed, it's the same. He really was here." the third boy said in surprise.
"So are you here to buy or are you just looking?" Aunty Chiyo asked.
They all grabbed a set and several upgrade kits before leaving all discussing how cool Aunty Chiyo's shop must be.
She shook her head once they were gone. "I think that's the first time they've actually purchased anything. Usually the come in, look at everything that is new and then leave. Do you mind if I say that you endorse my shop?"
"As long as you don't let anyone know we're on Earth right now I don't have a problem with it. Though if you want something more official I can have Mahan work out a contract with you."
"What would that mean?"
"Basically it means you'll have the financial backing of our shadow companies. If you fall on hard times and need financial help you'll get it."
"At what cost?"
"Huh? Oh you mean payback. I'm not talking about a loan you will be part of the organization. The only thing we expect from you is to follow company mandates. Basically if we tell you to close the store you have to do so but your financial losses will be fully covered. Mahan will be able to explain it better."
"Maybe, but it seems too good to be true."
"Hey Dad, I’m finished." Rin said as they re-entered the shop.
"That was quick."
"Yeah, well I decided not to paint it. I'd like to, but we don't have time. I was wondering, could Ryu join us for dinner?"
I coughed in surprise. "Um, let me check." I pulled out my com. "Mahan, would it be possible to change our reservations for tonight to add one more?"
"Give me a moment."
I waited tensely.
"No, I can't add an extra to the group. However I can remove one from Kyle's seating and make a reservation for two at the same time."
"Book it." I quickly said.
"I suspected as much and already booked the reservation."
"Thank you, Mahan."
I looked around at the stunned faces. "Oh! I'm so sorry, I should have checked to see if you would give Ryu permission to go on a date first."
"It's quite alright. Unexpected, but I'm thrilled really I am. Where are you going?"
"The Skytree restaurant so it will be formal dress."
Aunty Chiyo staggered a bit. How can you just change reservations like that? Especially at a restaurant that requires you book a month in advance?"
I just grinned, "Corporate secret." The truth was I wasn't sure. Though it was likely Mahan owned a large number of things I didn't know about.
"I . . . I don't have anything to wear to such a formal place." Ryu said quietly.
"That's an easy fix, I'll need to use your back room."
"Are you going to paint a set of formal attire?" Chiyo asked.
"Actually, yes it is sort of like that."
We quickly moved into the small room. I'd have liked to look around but we didn't have a lot of time. I activated my uniform. With my headset in place I pulled up the nanite control menu. I split the metal in my cuffs and then reprogrammed the second set to be open for select users. "Ryu, hold out your hands."
He held them out and I clamped the new cuffs in place. "Good now put this set on your ankles."
"You're giving him a uniform?" Rin asked.
"No, that is a temporary use mechanic unique to my cuffs. With them split like this I can only choose between four settings, Uniform, light armor, casual, and formal. Ryu is limited to casual, which is what he is wearing now, light armor, and formal wear. At the end of the evening I'm going to need the cuffs returned."
"Yes, sir." Ryu said, as his clothes changed into a tuxedo.
"Good, now why don't you go show your mother?"
As the door closed Rin glared at me. "Light armor?"
"Please, don't tell your other fathers. Jordan will likely know, but Kyle and Shock would be really mad at me."
"What other limitations are there?"
"I'm not going to be able to shift. Still the only having only light armor is the most concerning. If there is trouble I have to let the others handle it."
"Don't worry Dad, I'll cover you."
"No, if we have problems you cover Ryu."
Rin grinned. "But we're not going to have any problems, right?"
"Right."
As we exited we found one of Mahan's drones waiting for us. "Are you ready, sirs and madam?"
"Listen Ryu, you had better get home at a decent time, or else."
"Not to worry I'll have our driver bring him directly home after dinner."
She nodded and we headed to the Skytree. I contacted Kyle on the way letting the group know we'd meet there rather than the hotel lobby.
***
I arrived a few minutes late, however Rin and Ryu were right on time. We were separated and shown to our tables,
"What happened 'Dad'? You're always ahead of schedule." Shock asked, really trying to play up the annoying teen part.
"Rain wanted to meet up with a friend and you know I can't say no to her."
"Really? Ri-ain opened up to you about her past?" Shock asked in surprise.
"What is so strange about that? Rider asked.
"How much time have you spent with Russell and Rain?" I asked.
"Not enough. None if you're asking about work time." Rider replied.
As we ate we talked about what we knew of the kid's pasts. At least what little we knew about.
Once dinner was done I noticed Frost was falling asleep. Jordan and Kyle agreed to take him back to the hotel leaving me to watch over Rin and her date. Shock stayed as well. We split up so we wouldn't make Rin think we were watching her even if that was exactly what we were doing.
I leaned against the railing looking out over the city. With everything that had happened over the last thousand years Tokyo was the one city that remained the most unchanged. The other great cities, though looking similar were more replica than reality.
"It's strange looking out over a city like this and knowing the only thing above us is open sky." Rider said, as he joined me.
"Feeling homesick?"
"No, I like it here. Kyle took us, Jordan, Russell, and myself to a few parks and historical locations. I liked feeling lost in the crowd it’s something I never got to experience back home."
I shuddered at the thought and Rider wrapped an arm around me.
"I know, social anxiety, but you're doing really well."
"Only because I have something to focus on."
"If you don't mind my asking, why did Mahan pair us up? I would have though Kyle or Jordan would have been a better choice. Not that I'm complaining."
I smiled slightly, while continuing to look out over the city. "Why do you think you're our mate?"
"Huh? It's because Jordan wanted me and you'll do anything to make him happy."
"Ok, that's true, but it's not the only reason. You are Jordan's perfect mate or at least what he thought his perfect mate would be physically. However, a fully formed mind isn't so easily created. Everyone has a generated back story as a basis except you. Your story and most of your personality was left to the computer."
"I know my back story was created for the game but you're telling me my personality wasn't?"
"No, I checked. Most of your personality is a fusion of all the Runners."
Rider's eyes got big. "I'm you!"
"No, you are yourself. However, you are a better version of me. It was only natural that you would be our mate. The reason I chose you for this part of the trip . . ." I glanced around to be sure no one else could overhear me. "As Captain I have to be in charge all the time. I need a break."
"Are you suggesting you want me to be in charge?"
I turned and ground against him. "Maaybee." I would never admit it, but I'd learned a few tricks watching Luca.
"Keep that up and I'll bend you over this railing and show the whole city how subby you can be."
"Mmmm, you promise."
"Queer boy, finally build yourself a date?" someone yelled, interrupting us.
Rider and I turned to stare as did a large number of others on the skywalk. A much larger guy was holding Rin by the shoulder and glaring at Ryu."
"Remove your hand or I'll remove it permanently." Rin replied.
"Shut up you trans freak." The guy said pushing Rin causing her to fall to the floor. I could feel Shock's anger. If I didn't intervene someone was about to die.
Rin immediately signaled all of us not to get involved. And I was surprised to see Shock stop moving. Thank God for the hand signals we developed in the game.
The bully turned toward Ryu. "So you got tired of building your own dildos and found-"
There was a sickening crunch and the bully stumbled backward with a broken nose. The form was directly from the Shadow Runner self-defense memory upload. I'd have to speak with Rin about that.
The bully didn't back down and Ryu changed his stance one that would deliver a killing blow. I moved to put a stop to things but Rin was quicker. She hit the bully with a serving tray knocking him out.
I smiled, Rin had gone from a scared little girl to a strong woman. "Peter, you'd better take Kelly back to the hotel. I'll join you once this mess is sorted and I've taken Ryu home."
"You'd better be quick. I don't like to wait, kitten." I shivered as Rider squeezed my butt cheek.
I walked over and joined Rin and Ryu just as security arrived. I'd expected to have to deal with the police, instead building security took the bully away, apologizing to Ryu and Rin for their interrupted evening. Rather than push our luck I insisted on taking them home.
In the car I looked at Ryu, "So, what memory implants have you taken?"
"Just self-defense and unarmed . . ." Ryu trailed off as he realized what he'd admitted.
"Tell me did you realize that memory implants are limited to those I've personally approved?"
"Dad, Papa Kyle approved the implants at my request." Rin defended Ryu. "After what happened to Frost I didn't want Ryu to get hurt because of me."
I wanted to be mad, but I trusted Kyle's judgement. "Fine, but Ryu, be very careful. The move you were going to use, if Rin hadn't taken action, would have delivered a killing blow and I don't think security would have been so accommodating if that happened."
"I'm sorry. I was just so mad I wasn't thinking straight."
"Mind telling me why? And I know it isn't just the way he treated Rin."
Ryu sighed, "He's always been a bully but he's the star of my former high school’s athletics team. As long as he didn't injure anyone he was allowed to get away with anything. I was always his favorite target. Another reason I tried my hardest to get into the station school. I guess a year not getting to abuse me was too much for him, otherwise he never tried anything with witnesses before. I just hope this humiliation will be the end of it."
I nodded as the car rolled to a stop. "Listen, I'm guessing the last thing you two want is to say goodnight with a parent watching. Mahan, please tint the glass so that I cannot see out. Now you two go on, I'll just wait here."
The smile Rin gave me as they got out convinced me I'd made the right choice.
***
When we got back to the hotel; I escorted Rin to her room.
"So, what do you think of him?" Rin asked.
"Do you want my opinion of him or your decision to date him?"
"Both actually."
"He's shy and easily embarrassed. I'm guessing he pushes past that because his mother needs the assistance running the store. It took him a long time to work up the courage to tell you how he felt about you. I like him. He sort of balances the wild and reckless streak you're developing."
"I'm not as bad as you."
"Not yet anyway. It takes four mates to keep me from doing stupid things, and they still fail sometimes. At least you have a chance to be better than me. As for your decision," I knelt in front of her, "Rin, I'm not going to interfere unless I'm certain things will go really badly."
"Like my crush on Luca?"
"I knew Luca was 'having fun' with Trace, Tye, and Nature. I'm sure he'd do the same with you in a couple of years. I just wanted you to tell him about your feelings. As it turns out Luca isn't interested in any long term commitments, as proven by the mess with Vexy."
"I was stupid." Rin said looking away.
"No, having a crush on someone isn't stupid. You just have to take their feelings into consideration. Talk with them before you start imagining the rest of your lives together. That is something you need to do as a couple."
"Did you do that with Papa Wolf?"
"Maybe a little, though he thinks more about the future than I do, but I'm okay with that. Jordan plans our future, Kyle makes sure we're protected, Kelly . . ." I paused and laughed, "I think he's the one that keeps us grounded reminding us to be ourselves."
"And Daddy Peter?"
"I'm not sure yet, we need more time to really bond."
Oh, okay. So what do you think the others feel about Ryu?"
"Jordan didn't say anything, Kyle and Kelly were surprised. Kyle also felt apprehensive, but Kelly seemed like he knew more than we did and approved. I think Kyle felt the way he did, not because of your relationship, but because he hadn't informed me of Ryu's training. I can only gauge Russell and Peter from their reactions. Peter didn't seem to have any reaction, but that could be a failing on my part. Russell seemed happy and excited like he knew all along but kept it a secret."
"That's probably because he did. After what happened with the bullies, Ryu sort of appointed himself as bodyguard. That's why I convinced Mahan and Silverbolt to allow Ryu to implant the defense classes. That was before he asked me out. I trusted him because I knew him from the model shop. He, and his Mom let me stay there, working on models, so I didn't have to be alone after school. I just had to be home before my 'parents'."
"So he became Russell's friend to get closer to you?"
"No! At least I don't think so. I think he really is friends with Slinky." Rin yawned and leaned against the door. "It's just . . . you seem cool with him, but I'm worried one of the others will try to run him off, and I do have feelings for him. I've felt close to him ever since he helped me build my fist model kit. I just never imagined he had feelings for me." Rin blushed and covered her mouth in embarrassment.
"You'd better go to bed you're really starting to slur your words. I didn't understand any of that."
"Uh yeah, good night Dad."
She hugged me real quick and then hurried into her room.
***
I stumbled into my room, happy that tomorrow was set up as a rest day before changing hotels for one in the park. I really didn't want to know how Luca had gotten such exclusive tickets for Rin and Frost.
Shock was already in bed and from what I could 'read' from his dreams completely out. Rider was also in bed. I shut down my clothes and crawled in with him.
"What are you doing?" He asked, as I was attempting to get into a position where he was spooning me.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you. I . . ." Was I ready to be completely open with him? "I don't sleep very well anymore when I feel alone. Besides I thought you were feeling certain urges."
I was surprised when he pulled me closer so we really were spooning.
"Shock took care of that. He said it might take a long time before you returned. You're back really early, are Rin and her boyfriend alright?"
"They're fine."
He held me tighter. "I've been wondering, why you spend so much time in this frail form? I know here it is to maintain our disguise, but you also spend most of your time on the ship in human form as well."
"I was born human-".
"So was Wolf, Shock, Rin, Luca and Vexy. I've seen Luca in human form a couple of times, but Vexy is always in dragon form. The others vary but they all change more than you do."
"It's because I'm scared of losing control. I bottle up my emotions until they explode. It's bad enough in human form however in tiger form there is a chance I'll go feral losing my reasoning, but not my skills. A real threat to all of you."
"Are you scared right now? He asked grinding against me.
"No, even if I shifted you're stronger than I am and you could overpower me even in my shifted form."
He rolled me over so we were facing. "I thought you . . . did you lie about being able to stop me?"
"No, in a fair fight I have the skills to defeat you, however that doesn't change the fact that in terms of strength you're stronger."
"Ok. Are you telling me that because . . . never mind. It’s not important."
"You're my mate, everything you think is important."
"I'm not that important, now that you and Jordan are having children together."
"What are you talking about?"
"We're both cats. I'm a threat, well we both would be if you weren't part wolf, to cubs."
"What?"
"Females go into seclusion for five or six years to be sure our cubs are protected."
"Sounds like a way for the males to avoid responsibility. Tell me, how did you feel?"
"I admit I didn't have feelings for my female partner. It's why I worked so hard to become a child therapist and to prove that I wasn't a threat to them. I- I know they weren't real but I still miss my own children. It hurts that I only knew them for a few months before the Bugs killed them. Now you and wolf are going to send me away-"
"No," I wiped the tears from his cheeks. "I expect you and all of our mates to be part of their lives."
"But-"
"You're not going to be a threat because they are Jordan's children and if he has his way only the first of many. They also won't all be mine, though I'll still treat them as if they are."
"What do you mean?"
"As far as I can tell Jordan wants a big family that means having cubs with all of his mates."
"You wouldn't have a problem with that?"
"Why would I? Jordan is my mate. You are my mate. The cubs you and Jordan have will be yours, but they will also be mine."
He pulled me close again. "I- I think I love you. I'm not sure, but maybe as much as I love our Wolf."
"That's good, because I love you too."
He kissed my forehead, "And you really don't mind if we don't . . . you know? Because as much as I don't want to admit it Shock-"
I placed a finger against his lips. "Is insatiable, I know. Just hold me as I fall asleep and we're good, for tonight."
He smiled and held me and sleep quickly took me.
* * *
I woke slowly. I know I fell back asleep at least once. But my mates were content and their activity would wake me once they were up.
I stretched and glanced at my watch. "That can't be right!" I gasped. It was nearly two in the afternoon.
"Hey 'Dad', want me to order room service." Shock asked.
"I should have been up hours ago. I didn't mean to keep everyone waiting;"
"Who's waiting? Kyle went off to visit some old friends. Wolf took Rider, Rin, and Frost out for the day so you could rest, I stayed here to make sure you weren't alone when you woke up. Before you get upset. Wolf said you had nightmares about Rider. What that had to do with Frost and Rin, I really don't know."
"But you-".
"After what happened last night I needed a break as well. I'm talking about what happened with Rin, not the sex with Rider. That was just a distraction. Tell me what happened after you sent us away."
"Not much really. Security came and took statements confirming the video footage they already had, and then we took Ryu home."
"And?"
"I don't know. I had Mahan black out the car windows to give them privacy."
"Idiot." Shock barked. He shook his head "It seems like such a short time ago I was teaching her to dance."
"Teaching her to use the wind staff is more like teaching her to pole dance. Especially the way you do it."
"And even less time building her first mobile suit."
"Hardly her first. She's been building model kits for some time. It's how she met Ryu in the first place."
"Now she's flying around the universe-"
"Solar system, and even then she is severely limited.
"And dating bad boys who are prone to fighting."
"I really think I need to point out Rin was the violent one. Really taking after her Fox father."
"You're just saying that."
"You're right, I am. I know you see Rin as your daughter first and we're just her other parents. I haven't called you on it because you're not neglecting Frost. Before you protest I know Kyle is the same way with Frost."
"It's not like I can have kids of my own. I gave up that dream a long time ago. I thought I was ok with that but ever since Rin and Frost came into our lives . . . And now you're having kids with Wolf . . . I guess I'm feeling like Rin is my only chance to be a real parent." He said sitting on the edge of the bed.
I shook my head. "Not you too."
"What are you talking about?" He asked, looking at me strangely.
"Rider's afraid I'm going to send him away for the protection of my cubs. You're afraid Rin might be your only chance to be a father. Well guess what, I'm scared I won't be the best father to them either. Fortunately Wolf's cubs will have all of us to love and support them. I'm not just talking about Wolf's and my cubs either. He wants a large family with cubs from all of us. Just, not all at once, please."
"Is that even possible for me? I'm not exactly-".
"You're fully male and with a slight adjustment in the evolver fully capable of procreating with Jordan. Technically, though the probability is very low, the two of you are compatible now."
"But I'd have to . . ." He trailed off.
"Well yeah, but it's not like you didn't before when it was just three of us."
"But foxes aren't supposed to-"
"Stop right there. I thought you were playing at being a stereotypical fox boi. You're not, and that's not the way we see you."
"But-".
"If it helps remember you're a fox tiger hybrid so of course you'll be able to top."
Shock looked very skeptical.
"Or if you want, you can be in the middle."
He smiled and crawled up on the bed. "Now that sounds like fun. But right now it's just the two of us. Rider said you didn't get any last night so how about now?"
"You know? I'm not in the mood." I almost relented at the spike of pain he felt at that moment. However I stayed strong activating my disguise and then altering it so I looked completely different. "Instead I want to spend the day exploring the city with my cute boyfriend."
Shock smiled at me, "I'm not cute, and even though that mask is nice, can you make it look a bit more like the real you? At least add a few years. I know this is going to sound strange but I feel weird being with such a young version of you."
I slowly adjusted the mask until he smiled.
"There, not old enough to draw suspicion but certainly young enough to pass as a normal couple. So where are we going?" Shock asked.
"That's up to you. Today you lead and I'll follow."
"Are you sure?"
I can't say I trusted his grin but I nodded and he was immediately pulling me out the door.
***
"I don't get it. Why do I have to be blind?"
Shock and I spent the day just exploring. Checking out small shops, an arcade, we watched a movie, and just hung out as friends. The others accused us of doing nothing but staying in the room and having sex all day. We didn't bother trying to change their minds.
The transfer to the park accommodations had gone smoothly except now Rin, Frost, and Shock hat their own rooms and the rest of us had to double up in one.
"I had Mahan set your headset to 'blind' to keep you from panicking and running."
We hadn't even fully settled in when Kyle dragged me out insisting I go on a rollercoaster with him before I could find a way out.
"I promised you I would, so I'm not going to run. Besides you know I freeze up and become catatonic when I panic."
"Okay I'm removing the blinders. We're at a point where you can't really see anything other than the coaster cars."
I looked around the entire area was enclosed but it looked vaguely familiar.
"Kyle-".
"Nick, remember." he hissed.
I just nodded. "What is this ride?"
"You'll see, I think you're going to like it. Unfortunately we won't be in the front car but Frost and Rin will be and they deserve the extra bit of fun."
"Nick . . ."
We were shown to our seats and our harnesses were triple checked. I gripped Kyle's hand.
"There's nothing to be scared of. I'm right here. We've done this before and you were perfectly fine."
"That was in . . .” I trailed off as familiar music started to play. "Nick is that-"
"The Gold Saucer music? Seems like it."
I gasped a little as the car started moving. Immediately laser sounds came from the front as Rin and Frost started shooting targets on screens along the ride. I was so busy watching them and noting the differences compared to my memories that the ride ended before I had a chance to be scared.
As we got out the attendant came over with two Red XIII plushees. "Congratulations, each of you scored over 5000 points you both get the top prize Red 13 plushees!"
"Ah, I coulda got high score if we'd only been quicker." The little girl from the seats between us and the kids said sadly to whom I guessed was her mother.
"You can have mine if you want." Rin said, kneeling in front of the girl. "I already have a life size one at home. I bet you'd take really good care of this little guy."
"Are you sure, dear? Those are really rare and expensive." Her mother asked.
"Yeah, I'm sure."
"Rain, just a moment." Kyle said before taking the plush and turning to the mother. "You wouldn't happen to have a pen would you?"
"But . . . Yes." She said, as she dug through her purse.
I gave Kyle a look as part of his uniform split off and reformed a collar and tag on the plush.
"Here it is!"
"Sorry, it seems to already have a tag. Here you go." He gave the girl the plush and glanced at the mother. "Shh, I hope you enjoy your time in the park just as we are trying to do."
They both looked a bit confused as we walked away. Once we had just about exited the area I heard a little shriek.
"Dad, what did you do?" Rin asked before I could.
"Nothing much. The tag I formed says 'a gift from Rin Nightiger' and on the back it says 'and her dad, Kyle Nanaki Nightiger."
"You know you shouldn't be doing things like that." I said.
Frost laughed. "Admit it dad, you'd have done the same thing."
"He has actually. Don't think I didn't notice you didn't take the cuffs back from Ryu." Rin said happily.
"What? Tiger; you know better. That is a large portion of your armor not just a little metal and cloth like that collar."
"Hey Nick, you've gone on the ride with my brother. How about giving your husband a little attention here" Wolf said, running up and grabbing Kyle's arm.
"I'm coming, don't pull my arm off."
"Come on Dad, we're going as well.” Shock told Rider as they followed Kyle and Jordan.
"I'm going again too. You coming Russell?" Rin asked.
"No, I think I'll stay here and keep Uncle Bill Company."
"Ok, we’ll be back." They waved as Frost and I found a bench to wait on.
"Dad, how can Papa Wolf have babies?"
I gasped at the question, really glad I hadn't been drinking anything.
"I don't mean where babies come from, I already know that. I mean, he's you know, a male."
"We used the evolver to-"
"You mean he, I mean she-"
"Still he, just with extra parts."
"Oh, okay. So what is it like to have to take care of babies?"
"I don't know. I really don't know. I'm really glad I'm not doing this on my own because I'd be completely lost."
"What do you think of Ryu?"
"What?" I was having problems switching subjects like that so quickly.
"At school, after . . . you know, Ryu started hanging out with me. I thought he was my friend, but now . . . I'm scared he was just pretending in order to get Rin to like him."
I pulled out my decoy cell phone. "Mahan, connect us to Ryu, please. And leave Frost on mute."
"Through Earth coms or my system?"
"What?" I asked in complete confusion.
"His uniform is in generation mode. While he doesn't have a full headset, yet, there is enough for communication."
"Okay, that's not what I planned. Still ring his Earth phone and then switch us over to the secure link."
"Understood, the shop phone is ringing now."
"Greetings, this in Minato Models and More, Minato Ryu speaking. How can I help you today?"
"Hello Ryu, this is, "I paused for a moment to make sure no one would hear me, "Rin's dad. I need you to hang up now."
"Oh, okay. That was weird. I wonder why he called in the first place?"
"So you wouldn't panic if you just heard me taking to you."
"How?" Ryu asked in surprise.
"The nanite clothes I gave you. They have built in communications. Completely secure. Anyway, I need to ask you something."
"Anything!"
"What do you think of Frost? I don't know if Rin told you, but I value honesty even if it hurts."
"He's great. I mean, sure Rin asked me to keep an eye on him, but after the first time we met I . . . well we quickly became friends."
"What were you going to say?"
"I can't it’s way to presumptuous."
"Tell me anyway."
"I think of him as my little brother most of the time, but there are times when he seems to be a lot older than me"
Frost giggled at that.
"Hmm, good answer. Just so you know, you can contact Rin at almost any time now that you're connected to the system. All you have to do is ask Mahan to connect you"
"Really? Thank you."
"You're welcome, goodbye. Mahan cut link. Does that answer your question?" I asked Frost.
"Will you ride the next one with me?"
"I guess."
"Yay! I can't wait to tell everyone you're going on the next rollercoaster as well."
I groaned and Frost grinned.
***
Over the next four days they turned it into a contest to see who could get me on the rides. Frost chose Ocean Voyage it wasn't really a roller coaster exactly. We were in cars but they move slowly through a transparent pipe at the bottom of the lagoon aquarium.
After that Jordan got me on the Pirates of the Caribbean coaster. Not that I noticed much since I took every opportunity the dark ride gave us to kiss him. As flushed as we were when we exited I'm sure everyone though the ride had terrified us.
The ride that did scare me was Escape from the Volcano. I was on that one with Rider and was nearly catatonic when he carried me off. It was a very realistic ride based on the night Mount Fuji erupted. After that no one tried to get me on any more rides. I hated disappointing them but I needed some time.
On our last day in the park I forced myself to go on a new high tech ride with Shock. It was sort of a star fighter simulation. The Shadow Runner had just saved the Earth but it was up to us to shoot down the asteroid fragments before they could enter the atmosphere. It was fun and our group broke all the previous records for the game. The prize, two free passes to the parks for six months. I knew that meant our trip had just been extended. As we left I made sure to pick up a brochure detailing all the different parks.
***
I leaned back in my seat and relaxed. It was funny how I was scared of rollercoasters but had no problems with trains. Even the high speed maglev we were riding on our way to Mount Fuji.
"All passengers please engage your seatbelts for your safety. We are approaching the great chasm."
There was a lot of shuffling and I did up my seat belt as I scrunched down, not wanting to be noticed.
"Roughly 400 years ago the country was at the brink of destruction. Mount Fuji was angry and on the verge of exploding. The security and defense forces evacuated as many as they could but millions more remained. Suddenly a light came down from the heavens and created the great rift."
The floor started to slide apart in sections leaving only a transparent barrier between us and the ground.
"Many claimed it was the divine Amaterasu whom created the rift. How else could a light from the heavens create a trench from the sea to the mountain without a single loss of life? Sure a large number of buildings were destroyed but nothing compared to the destruction if the mountain exploded."
The train slowed as we passed over the chasm. It was maybe four hundred feet deep and two hundred foot across. A river of lava flowed at the bottom slowly building up in layers at the edges.
"Now we know better. The chasm was most likely created by Prowl-Ar with his advanced technology. Carving the chasm up to the base of the mountain and then into the magma chamber allowing the pressure to drop as the lava flowed to the sea."
Wolf nudged me and grinned. "So you weren't always hiding."
"Since then the hydro thermal power plants have powered the entire region making our country the second cleanest in the world."
As we reached the other side the floor closed back up and the train continued to slow as it approached the station.
"Excuse me?" Rin, said gesturing to the conductor, "Why do you think Prowl-Ar created the rift?"
"Because it is the most logical conclusion. We have seen on multiple occasions that Lord Prowl-Ar has great compassion for everyone."
"Quiet girl, have some respect for your elders. Lord Prowl-Ar is obviously divinely touched everyone has seen him change his form." One of the other passengers yelled at Rin.
"And he is immortal." Yelled another.
"From what I've seen he's a petty ego maniac threatening world leaders and breaking laws where ever he goes." I said loudly.
It’s fortunate the train station was the one we were traveling to because we were thrown off. Of course Mahan had a limo waiting to take us from the station to the Ryoguden onsen.
***
Once in the car everyone stared at me. "What?" I asked as innocently as I could.
"You did that on purpose just to make them mad didn't you?" Shock asked.
"Maybe."
"Why?" Rin asked.
"Because I don't like it when people start thinking about us in terms of 'savior' and 'deity'. We're not gods and we never will be."
Wolf laughed. "Speak for yourself, I often feel rather godly."
"I . . ." I flushed with embarrassment at the thought that ran through my mind.
"Oh my God! If your thoughts are anything like your feelings right now you are a really dirty minded tiger." Shock joked. "Jordan what is he . . ."
I'm sure they noticed Wolf's embarrassment as well. I wasn't sure if it was our mental connection growing stronger or what, but when I imagined kissing him we both felt it as though it was real, well physical. I grinned and Wolf's blush grew brighter as I imagined gently caressing his sides on my way down-"
"Dads! Get a room!" Rin yelled.
I opened my eyes to find everyone still staring at us, except the tops of our uniforms had retracted.
"Rin, why? It was just getting good." Kyle moaned.
"Yeah, Daddy Kyle's right, that was hot." Frost said, while grinning.
"Ok, so yeah it was hot, but that's not the way I want to see my parents, adopted or otherwise. And you shouldn't even be thinking about such things."
"Afraid I might try to take Ryu from you?" Frost laughed.
"Not a chance. He's mine." Rin growled.
"Don't worry he's too young. I'm only interested in older men."
"Good luck with that. Dirty old men like that would disappear knowing our parents."
"Rin, cut it out. You’re going too far." I ordered.
"Just leave me alone." Frost said, as he pulled his legs up and squished himself into the corner of the seat trying to look as small as possible as his mood changed abruptly.
The car stopped and the glass separating the front from the back rolled down. "We've arrived." Mahan informed us.
"Shock," I quickly passed him a small business card, "Give this to the receptionist when you check in. They'll know what it means. Kyle I want you here, everyone else go with Shock." I glanced at Frost and everyone nodded and got out.
"Shall I just wait or ..." Mahan left the question to hang.
"Drive us around what would be a common tourist route."
"Very good, Sir." He rolled the window back up and the car started moving.
I changed seats so I was sitting next to Frost. "Frost, it's okay. We know, we've known for some time now. It's alright."
"No it's not. I'm fifteen and fifty two years old at the same time. In another year I'll be an adult, but that's not how you see me. Worse yet the only ones who'll look at me are sick individuals. By the time I'm old enough to find someone they'll be younger than I am."
"It's not about physical age, it's about maturity. Age is just a number." I tried to reassure him.
"He's right. Once you're twenty you'll be able to stop the aging process so if it just physical-"
"Can I get the treatment at sixteen? I like myself the way I am." Frost interrupted Kyle.
"That's something all of us will need to decide together."
"I guess, but if I do meet someone I want to get close to promise you won't harm him."
I glanced at Kyle, and could tell he had the same thought I did."
"Ok, I promise I won't harm your future boyfriends." I said.
Frost looked surprised I'd actually promised. "Daddy, you have to promise too."
"Fine, I promise."
"Don't expect me to make that promise." Wolf informed me.
"I know, and it's why I knew I could make the promise. I know you and Shock won't promise something like that. I'm not sure about Rider, yet. Still there is one more I doubt Frost even thought about."
"Of course, Mahan would never agree to such a thing. You one devious kitty. I'm going to have to keep my eyes on you."
"Good, it means I can spend more time looking into your beautiful eyes."
"So, now that we've promised have you been looking for someone?" Kyle asked.
"Well, no, not really. I've been to afraid what would happen if I did."
The dividing window rolled down. "I would have scanned their past and, if I deemed them a threat, I would have removed the threat."
"Mahan! I want-"
"Don't even bother. You can manipulate your parents, but not me. You are a member of my crew, and even if you leave you're still the son of crew members therefore your safety is something I take very seriously. Now, I can either keep going or stop. We've returned to the spa."
"Is there anything else you want to tell us?" I asked.
"No, I think I'm good, for now." Frost said, looking rather thoughtful. He was likely thinking of how he’d get his other fathers to promise him not to interfere.
"Very good, it seems the proprietors are waiting." Mahan said as the limo rolled to a stop.
I was greeted by three women as I stepped out. The youngest was probably six or seven, next was a middle aged and the last one was ancient.
"Lord Lightstripe it is an honor to see you again." The elderly woman said happily.
"Lady Sakura, you haven't changed a bit."
She blushed, "Shame on you for lying like that. I was seven the last time be met and now I'm nearly a hundred with great grandchildren." She let out a cackle, "My children and grandchildren didn't believe me when I told them I'd met an immortal"
"Granny, no offense sir, this isn't who you seem to think he is." The middle aged woman said.
"Nonsense. You can remove your disguise we don't have any other guests, currently." Lady Sakura told us.
"Mommy, why is granny being so nice? She's usually mean to the outsiders."
"It's okay Willow, Granny must have forgotten her medication is all."
"Willow, do you know who Prowl-Ar Nightiger is?" I asked sweetly.
"Oh yes, Granny has a picture of him and she asks the ancestors to watch over him and his family."
Now it was my turn to blush as Kyle burst out laughing.
"Like he knows we even exist.”
"Mei, the Shadow Runner Corporation are the ones providing most of our funding."
"Mei," I signaled to Kyle and Frost we could remove our disguises. "Your Grandmother is correct. The last time I visited was when she was a little girl. I needed to make repairs to the magma control system. This was the only available place to stay mainly because it is so far from the train station. Anyway when I learned they were struggling I offered a deal to Lady Sakura's grandmother, I'd become a silent partner. In the onsen on the condition you wouldn't discriminate."
"The family was so happy to continue running our business, we built the guest house for Prowl-Ar in case he decided to return" Sakura said, pointing to a traditional Meiji era styled house.
"Are you really a dragon?" Willow asked looking up at Kyle.
She squealed in delight as Kyle picked her up while shifting he zoomed her around like a toy airplane, set her back down and shifted back to human form. She ran back over to her Mom. "Mommy, Mommy, did you see? He is a luck dragon! Now I'm going to be lucky forever and always!"
"I saw, but I don't think he's a real luck dragon."
"Oh he is, Dad often gets lucky when they're together." Frost said laughing loudly.
We all stared at Frost.
"Well no matter how lucky he is there will be none of that in the baths, is that understood?" Lady Sakura said sternly.
We all bowed and agreed to follow the rules.

The guest house was small but it could easily accommodate all of us. No one was present so they must have already gone to the baths. As we entered the dressing room I realized the awkwardness of the situation. A sign clearly stated that no clothing was allowed in the bath.
"Um maybe this wasn't-"
"Come on, not afraid to be naked in front of everyone are you?" Frost asked as he deactivated his uniform, turned, and marched into the pool area.
Kyle laughed. "What did you expect? He spent most of his life as a dragon where he didn't need to wear clothing. You didn't really expect him to care did you?"
I- I guess I've just got to get used to it. It's not like he hasn't taken full advantage of the VR to see a lot of naked men."
"Good, now let's hurry up. I want to play a bit."
"It's not allowed." I quickly replied. "It's one thing being nude and a whole other thing doing that!"
"Dirty minded tiger, I mean play, not 'play'." Kyle said, being sure to emphasize the second use. He ran his hand up my back giving me a little push, before passing me. He'd already deactivated his own clothing.
I took a few moments, not to stall, but to remind myself that Frost was the only one that hadn’t seen me nude before. Frost was nearly an adult, and besides I looked good. At least as good as genetic manipulation could make me look. I took a step, then a second. I deactivated my clothing. I immediately started to sweat from the heat of the room. I continued one step at a time until I was standing outside at the edge of the bath.
Wolf, Kyle, and Frost were swimming and splashing about. Shock was sitting on the edge next to the stone stairs dangling his legs in. Watching the others play. I also noticed his very evident erection I felt a bit of anger and I quickly blocked it from our link. If he was enjoying watching them play who was I to ruin it? I accidentally, on purpose, bumped him; sending him into the water. He came up flailing and gasping.
"Help! Can't swim!" He yelped before submerging again.
I calmly walked down the steps, grabbed one of his arms and lifted him up. "Shock, stop panicking and stand up."
"I can't swim!" He gasped again.
"The water is only waist deep. You don't have to swim."
Finally he stood up. Being shorter meant for him the water was a little deeper, but not unmanageable.
"That wasn't nice." While it wasn't possible to see, he was crying. I could feel that much through the link.
"Why didn't you learn to swim?" I asked thinking of all the pools, creek, and river where Shock grew up.
"B-because." Shock sniffled and held his hands in front of his chest. I got it immediately. He would have had to wear a girl's bathing suit.
"Poppa, why don't you join us? Daddy and I will teach you how to swim and Papa Wolf says he can at least teach you to dog paddle."
"Frost! Do you want a spanking? I said no such thing."
"Yes Papa!"
We all stood in silence for a moment before bursting out into laughter. All of us except Jordan and Frost.
"What's so funny? Frost asked, "Does this mean I'm not getting a spanking?"
"Ok, I'm done playing. Shock, enjoy the lessons, I hope you survive. I'm just going to be over soaking with Rider." As Jordan made his way to the back of the bath I noticed Rider. Only his head was above the water and he looked completely out of touch with reality.
"I'm sure they won't let you drowned. Well mostly sure. I'm going to join Wolf and Rider."
I made my own way to the back of the pool and found a submerged rock bench to sit on. I sat next to Rider, leaning back and floating a little. "So what are you thinking?"
"I've died and gone to a better place. I never imagined a place like this existed."
He grabbed my hand and the next thing I knew I was gripping his erection along with Wolf.
"Mmm, now would be a really good time to pay that debt I owe you."
"What debt?" Wolf asked.
"Oh I was going to take care of our Tiger’s needs but then Rin was attacked, Prowl-Ar was busy, and Shock-"
"No need to say any more." Wolf said, glancing back at the others flailing around.
"We can't-". I started to say.
"Nonsense, Frost is busy teaching Shock to swim so he isn't likely to notice." Rider deftly moved me to his lap.
"No, we can't I promised that we wouldn't do this sort of thing in the bath." I said.
"That's not what this says."
I moaned as he gripped my cock.
“How about if Wolf blocks the view as we both-".
"Rider, stop, right now. If our mate gave his word then no matter how much you want it, it isn't going to happen. He's said no. that’s final. You wouldn't force him would you?"
"It's hardly forcing, he clearly-"
"He gave his word. That means everything to him. If you force him to break it . . . None of us will ever have sex with you again. Plus Mahan will lock you out of the VR unit, meaning no sex there either." Wolf growled.
"You wouldn't do something like that."
"Once he's finished. I'll form lock you to human form and dump you in some hell hole here on Earth." Kyle added.
"But before he does I'll adjust the tech from your system so you will age and die as a normal human." Shock added.
"Please, when Dad makes a promise he never breaks it." Frost begged.
"I . . ."
Rider was scared, I could tell. "Shush, I'll find some place where we can experience what you suggested. It's just, this isn't the right time or place." I whispered as Rider let me go. I moved back where I had been beside him. “It’s alright you can all go back to playing or trying to teach Shock how to swim if you want. I'm just going to relax and unwind."
Rider put his arm around me. "Don't worry I'll make sure he doesn't drown. And, I know, no sex."
Wolf moved around to sit on the other side of me. “I’ll make sure nothing happens.”
Kyle, Shock, and Frost moved off again so as not to splash us and I took full advantage soaking and eventually falling asleep in the mineral rich water. It was rather obvious I’d needed the relaxation when I woke up to the feeling of the plane taking off. I couldn’t believe I’d slept through the ride back to the airport and being carried aboard.
"Good, you're awake, where are we headed next?" Mahan asked.
"Melbourne, and book us into Disney Australia."
"And the two extra tickets?"
"Go to Shock and Wolf."
"Since the tickets will be registered you'll need to stick with your established cover stories.
"That's fine, I guess. Wake me when we're about to land. I yawned, rolled over, and promptly fell asleep once more.
