Chapter 1: Going Over My Memories, From Both Lives, And My Journey Begins, Kinda?
#2 of Traveling Through My Own World Created From A World Seed Hidden As a Bugged Pokemon Game
We get to the start of the actual story in this chapter, and we see Red's journey's beginning, even if he doesn't really think it's a true beginning. Hope you enjoy, and the tags are foreshadowing as of this chapter, so there's that. Also, our MC's childhood friends are introduced in person, so there's that.
I laid in bed groaning as two sets of memories played out before my mind. The first, the backstory I'd crafted for my character Jacob, Jake or "Red" Okami. The other, my life as Jason Cross, a writer from the sol system, planet earth, who'd just been experimenting with a Pokemon game, that he thought was bugged. As each memory passed through my mind, I started comparing them, and seeing what led to my "Other Self," to create my world the way it was, and what fucking traps I'd unintentionally left for myself, besides the type of trap and reverse trap that the internet in Jason's world loved to talk about.
I sighed softly as I sat up and said "Alright, so I'm currently Jake aka Red, Okami. Good to know. My life was mostly relaxed, other than my obsession with Pokemon which checks out. I spent the last sixteen years with my parents, my older sister's last letter came a week ago, saying she'd be held up in Orre where my best friend's older brother Alex's trail had led her, today is my, Brianna "Blue" Oak, and Cleo "Green" Green's birthday. Man that was unoriginal of me, we were basically the color trio, I work as one of Lab's six assistants The other five being, Cleo, Brianna, Rose, Alex, and Maybell "Bell" Loss, who is the only one that plans to not start a journey. Bell is one of the ranch's breeders, The other five of us are the lab's only sponsored trainers lately, as most of the Professor's lab trainers end up giving up way to quickly due to the fact life on the road is hard."
I nodded to myself and continued "All that checks out with my other memories. The world is a bit darker than the anime or games, Pokemon and People can die, Criminals are as likely to use guns as they are Pokemon to attack people, man why'd I set it up that way? Oh right didn't think I'd end up living here, anyway, The Shadow Pokemon Plague is probably going to start soon, if Rose doesn't succeed in stopping it, which I think was part of the settings I had...fuck. The evil teams are a thing, but only Team Rocket is currently active, Trainer's start at 16 and junior Trainers start at 14, ok good to know, Coordinator, Breeder, Trainer, Researcher, Doctor, Nurse, and Ranger are all jobs that are available depending on the region, still matches up between the two so far. Ah fuck, I'm in Kanto meaning Mewtwo is probably going to be my problem."
I took a deep breath after having a mental freak out over the thought Mewtwo could possibly kill me since this was now my reality, then continued "The gender ration is way to fucking skewed in the wrong direction, I could have made it 5 to 1 female trainers to male, instead of 100 to 1, and instead of making it 5 to 1 females to males, I could have made it 10 to 1, meaning that for 2 girls born, there was at least one male trainer out in the world. Man I was being an idiot, anyway. What else did I do besides making the world more dangerous? Like what in my personal background did I do to not basically make me a gigachad with a harem of a thousand girls?"
I closed my eyes as I tried to focus on "Red's" memories. I saw myself growing up with my parents and older sister, as well as spending time at Oak's ranch. I saw a wild growlithe scratching the fuck out of my right eye, but not blinding me amazingly, and my father's vaporeon beating the shit out of the aggressive puppy. I was still curious why it did so, cause Jason's memories had no explanation other than the words "It's a secret." I also noticed a lot of "meta" knowledge Jason had was locked away behind what felt like a wall in my mind. General knowledge could go back and forth, Jason's memories of his old life that had nothing to do with my current one could also go back and forth, but anything about the world that "Red" shouldn't know couldn't flow between the two. It was almost as if I knew this was going to happen, but my last memories as Jason showed I didn't, so maybe an extra outside force had done it so I'd actually have to live like a normal person.
I continued viewing Red's memories, as my mind more and more assimilated into who I was now, the block seeming stronger the more time passed. I was sixteen today, it was the summer solstice, Dad said that he'd be giving me an egg if Oak approved it, my childhood had been fun, aside from the growlithe attack, I may or may not have Aura, which apparently Aura, Psychic Powers, Empathy, and all sorts of other special abilities were at a ratio of 1 in every 100 people having one, so they weren't exactly rare, rather they were just uncommon, and considered a slight advantage over your average trainer, but humans were a lot more durable than on Jason's world. We could handle a few tens of thousands of volts of electricity, and a higher amperage than humans on Jason's world, We could handle temperatures that would cause third degree burns before we'd actually get a first, and we apparently all had a small amount of aura flowing through us, even if we weren't able to manifest it, that allowed us to basically do what humans in Jason's world would consider the peak human feats, rather easily.
Of course, with training the body could handle higher temperatures, stronger blows, and more electricity, but it would require intensive training, and most humans, other than those specializing in certain types of Pokemon, preferred not to go to such lengths. Type specialists were a thing, and usually their personal aura took on a little of the traits of the Pokemon they specialized in, in response to their mental state, the needs of their bodies, and other factors. Man Jason had been really thorough in making our world, I'd give him credit for that. The legendaries were in fact the gods of this world, their messengers, or at least creatures required to keep balance in check if they were not one of the former two. So, if like the stupid movie someone tried to capture the three Legendary Birds, which why I was allowed to remember bits and pieces of very dangerous shit, but not everything I don't know, the world's balance would be way out of whack, like in Pokemon 2000: The Power of One.
Why Jason would think it'd be interesting to have to deal with Shadow Pokemon, Cypher, the evil teams, rogue trainers, and regular criminals, ON TOP OF Territorial Pokemon, Pokemon that Would be willing to eat anything if they were starving, or I don't know POKEMON AGRESSIVE CAUSE OF MATING SEASON, I HAVE NO FUCKING IDEA! I don't know if he thought it'd be fun, thought it'd be interesting, or didn't realize it WASN'T GOING TO JUST BE A GAME FOR US AND THE PEOPLE WE CARE ABOUT! Either way, if I ever find out why he did this, I'm punching him in the face, even if he is me.
As my brain more and more fell into the proper place I glanced at my wall clock and swore, realizing I had about twenty minutes to get dressed, eat breakfast, and get my ass to the Professor's lab before he'd be rather pissed that I wasted his time, when I was the most excited for today, to the point I told the girls to be there early, they'd never let me hear the end of it if I was late. I jumped out of bed, got dressed in my trademark red and black clothing, then ran downstairs, grabbed a piece of toast and called over my shoulder, to mom and dad who were sitting at the kitchen table, with Dad's vaporeon, and Mom's mightyena sitting beside them "I'll be home after I get my partner, later mom, dad, Maya, Clear, talk to you when I get back." I ran out the door, pulling it shut behind me and raced up the hill to the lab, my toast being devoured along the way and mentally cursing myself for focusing on my memories instead of focusing on the fact today was the day I met my partner.
I passed by a few of Pallet Town's residents as I ran and heard them giggling about how rambunctious I was and thought "Yeah, the fact there are ten women to every man, meaning while we aren't that rare, seeing one wanting to become a trainer, is. I mean the vast majority of guys don't want to be trainers, especially when they're outnumbered 10 to 1 by women, which is why the ratio of male trainers to female is 100 to 1, doesn't help women generally have a higher aura level, due to needing it when they get pregnant, so human males are kinda likely to get their asses kicked easier, and have a harder time adapting to Pokemon Attacks being used on them. Of course, the ratio of female trainers to male trainers, is just about Legal League Trainers, not criminal trainers, coordinators, or any other profession that uses Pokemon, that decreases the ratio from 100 to 1, to 50 to 1, because a full half of male trainers, choose other professions than being battlers, unless they're gym trainers, actual gym leaders, or the elite four of their region. Hell there hasn't been a male champion in any of the regions for ten years according to the news."
I shook my head as I came to a stop outside the professor's lab, where Blue and Green were standing talking about how I was probably going to be late because I always was the laziest of the three of us, even if I was the most excited yesterday. They were both facing the lab, and so caught up in their discussion they couldn't hear my footsteps, so I cleared my throat and said "Excuse me ladies, but I believe I'm here a little early."
Blue turned around first and said "Hey you made it, and you aren't in your pajamas. I guess I owe Bell about two hundred pokedollars, Green does too." Green turned and blinked then glanced at Blue as if to ask if she was really seeing me. Blue chuckled and said "Sorry Cleo, but yes that really is Red and he really is ready for the day, he just forgot his bag, but we didn't bring our bags anyway, though uh Cleo, why is the local Pokemon school's cheer squad here chanting our nicknames?"
Green chuckled and said "Because someone paid them to cheer us on, though why they aren't shouting Red's when half of them have a crush on him, that I do not know. That said, let's just get in the lab and get our partners, shall we?" Blue and I nodded and the three of us walked up the steps to the lab proper where the professor was probably sleeping at his desk, since I knew he liked to work late the night before trainers set out, so that they'd be in the system the moment they were registered. I also had a feeling he had upgraded the Pokedexes he'd been working on from the prototypes he'd given Alex and Rose. We walked up to the doors of the lab and I grinned. Green stared at me and said "Don't you dare."
My grin just grew and Blue realized what she was doing, so joined in with Green, saying "Red, no, Jake, Don't you fucking dare." I grinned more and started to raise my foot. She groaned and said "Damn it Red, this is why Grandpa wanted us to be here with you, please don't do it."
I shook my head and said "It has to be done."
Blue groaned and said "No, no it doesn't have to be done. There is literally no reason for you to do what you're thinking other than to piss off grandpa." Green nodded and I just smirked at the two making them groan loudly and Blue say "Fine, but only this once. You also have to apologize to Grandpa afterward and tell him we tried to stop you."
I nodded and said "I'm fine with that Blue, you and Green obviously did try to stop me, as the crowd can testify, it's just I'm not in the mood to listen to you two, and the professor is obviously taking too long because he probably passed out from overworking again." Blue groaned knowing I was probably right, but not happy with it and stepped back, pulling Green along with her, who was protesting that they should still stop me. I grin and slammed my foot into the door kicking it open, before walking in and shouting "WE'RE BACK BITCHES!!" Bell fell out of her chair cracking up, because she was the only one who'd known I'd planned this as I'd called her last night to make the doors easier to open with a kick that didn't use aura, and she had bet me two hundred pokedollars that I wouldn't do it.
She slowly got up wiping her eyes and said "You glorious bastard, I didn't think you'd actually fucking do it! I thought you would chicken out and push the doors like a normal person so I could tease you about how big a wuss you were. I have never been more happy to lose a bet, especially cause the professor is probably going to kill you."
I shrugged in response as I heard footsteps coming in from the back of the lab, then the professor appeared and said "Red, what the hell were you thinking just now?" I shrugged slightly and he groaned before saying "Why is it, that you are the one who causes the most trouble between the three of you? I'd have thought it'd be Blue, or Cleo, but no, it's you." I shrugged again and he sighed then said "Come on in girls, the three of you can get your partners, then possibly battle to see how your partners handle the stress of combat, and how they bond with each of you." Professor Oak led us back to the lab proper and turned around to face us after having the table where the Pokemon usually sat rise up out of the floor.
I studied them and asked the professor "So what's our batch, Professor Oak?" The professor waited for the girls to walk into the room then studied the three of us carefully. While he was studying us, I was studying the table with the Pokemon on it, and realized there were four, rather than the traditional three. I glanced at the professor and asked "Who's getting two Pokemon today professor? I know it's most likely not Green, since she only wants a bulbasaur as a "handout," so it's between Blue and I. However, since it's got a lightning bolt on it, and I'm pretty sure Blue wants the water starter, that leaves me." I mentally groaned realizing this meant I'd be getting three Pokemon to start, because I KNEW my old man had an eevee waiting for me back home, just that the eevee was in an incubator as an egg right now. The professor smirked darkly at me, and I realized there was a reason he planned on giving me this fourth Pokemon, and it wasn't just that the girls wouldn't be able to handle it.
The professor smiled, in a way the girls thought was kind while I just saw pure evil in his eyes, and said "Why, Red, you know that the Pokemon in that ball is all yours. After all, you did score the highest on the trainer exams, and the girls honestly wouldn't know what to do with the little hellion. However, before you can pick them up, why don't you let the girls grab their partners, then you'll get your two Pokemon last, unless you'd like to make the girls sad, Red?" I stared at him and thought _"You manipulative old coot. You know I'd never do anything to make my friends sad if it wasn't in a battle, competition, or unknowingly. I'll personally have my damn partner light your ass on fire or electrocute it for this!"_Oak seemed to read my mind and smirked at me as if to say try it, since the two of us were standing behind the girls backs as they grabbed their partners.
Blue grabbed the pokeball with a teardrop shaped water mark on it, and Green grabbed the one with a green leaf on it. Professor Oak turned away from me to look at the two girls, who'd turned around, and asked "So, why not let your partners out and get to know them?" The girls nodded and released their squirtle and bulbasaur. The professor smiled and said "Good choices girls. Blue, you're squirtle's sassy nature will work well with you, and Cleo, your bulbasaur's outgoing nature will probably lead to you two getting along really well. Now then, let's watch Red's partners, shall we? Also, might I suggest getting behind the blast shields around my desk?" I stared at the professor feeling betrayed at his words and he said "Have fun Red," before escorting the girls to his desk and putting up the elemental shields that were FUCKING MILITARY GRADE! Like he thought my partners would kill us all for some reason.
I sighed and grabbed the fire marked pokeball first, mentally preparing to be roasted at least a little bit, then released the Pokemon within and a charmander appeared. She looked around the room, almost as if searching for a target, then turned to me and got a malicious gleam in her eye. I swallowed and said "Hey girl, easy there, no reason to tear into me, right?" She merely smirked in response charging up dragon claw on her nails, and dragon tail on her tail with a dragon pulse in her mouth. I was now sure that Oak had specifically picked Pokemon that would try to kill me, and very much regretting not being behind the elemental shields, which I knew for a fact were rated for dragon types. I swallowed thickly and asked "Mercy?" Her eyes basically screamed 'Sorry all out of Mercy, human."
I groaned and yelled, loud enough it probably could be heard on the front steps through the metal walls of the lab, "DAMN YOU PROFESSOR!!!!!!!!!!! YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO GIVE BEGINNING TRAINERS POKEMON THAT WON'T TRY TO KILL THEM ON MEETING, NOT A CHARMANDER WITH AN ANGER PROBLEM AND PURE DRACONIC PRIDE!!!!!! WHAT'S NEXT A RODENT THAT WANTS TO FRY MY ASS WITH ELECTRICITY?!?!?" After my yelling fit, which startled the charmander I dove out of the way and tackled it after it hit the wall behind me cause it had momentarily closed its eyes, then its body attacked instinctively. I slammed my fist into the top of her head and said "Christina, bad girl!" She turned to look up at me as if asking 'What the fuck?' I glared down at her and said "You may be a dragon type, but that had to take a toll on your energy reserves, and if I can dodge you enough I can kick your ass. Now," and here I grabbed the back of her neck in a way that usually forced ranch Pokemon to submit, "SIT THE FUCK DOWN!" She dropped onto her haunches and looked up at me with worry in her eyes.
I realized she'd probably been egg raised, and let have free reign of her nursery before being sent to Oak, so I stared into her eyes and said "You work with me, and I'll help you grow to be the strongest fire type in the world. You fight with me, and both our lives will be hell, because every time you get stronger, I'll work my ass off to be even stronger than you and force you to submit, possibly with our team on my side. So, truce?" She nodded and held out a claw which I shook then set her on my shoulder. The professor stared at me surprised that I'd gotten her to calm down so easily, but what neither he, nor Christina as I'd named my charmander if you couldn't tell, knew, was that I'd been mentally sweating buckets that entire time. I was just REALLY good at putting on a tough front from having to deal with the strong personalities of Blue and Green, as well as the lab Pokemon. Everyone thought when it came to certain people and things I could be a hard ass, while the rest of the time I was either lazy, laid back, or too relaxed. In actuality most of the time I was expecting the worst outcome, being lazy because it meant I'd have time for danger, or working my ass off to keep my body fit.
Anyway after I set Christina on my shoulder, and man was it harder than my past self probably realized to keep a lizard that was the size of a small child on my shoulder, I glanced at her and said "You might want to get off, cause I feel like our other partner is also going to be a problem girl too." I could tell that both Pokemon were female, 1 because I remembered Jason's thoughts that the ratio was 5 to 1 females to males, and 2, because the electric types pokeball had a heart holding the electric lightning bolt symbol within. Christina shook her head and I stared at her confused then I glanced at Oak questioningly.
He opened a panel on the blast shields and said "Red, Cynthia is a rare charmander that for some reason has the genetic typing of a dragon. She's not just a fire type, I don't know what led to this, but I do know that it's why she's so prideful, now that you put her in her place, unless you ball her, she will stick to you like glue. That said, have fun with pikachu. I stared at him then flipped him off making the girls laugh, and him grin darkly as I released the electric rodent that looked around curiously. I coughed softly to get her attention, and she stared at the pokeball like it killed her family, ate her dog in front of her, and then burned down her ancestral home.
I glanced between her and the ball, especially as she kept giving me dark looks, and said "We can talk about this, right?" She shook her head and I said "Even if I promise not to ball you again?" This time I received a nod, though not a nod as in 'We can talk,' but rather a nod as in 'There's nothing to say.' I just groaned and said "Dear fucking Arceus this is going to hurt." She merely nodded, all the while smiling menacingly as Oak, Green, and Blue cackled behind the blast shields, seeming to think this was my just desserts, then she released a gods damned thunder, not a thunder shock, no a full blown thunder on me and Christina. I wanted to file a complaint to Oak about how he'd given me two gods damned Pokemon that had more than their fair share of power, and BOTH HAD TRIED TO KILL ME! However, I was to busy convulsing on the ground from electricity coursing through my body, and my brain feeling like it was overheating. Finally the electric mouse stopped and I groaned saying "Ok, got it out of your damn system Pi?"
She studied me confused and I pointed at her saying "You, you're Pi. Got the urge to shock me without talking, out of your system?" She nodded and I sat up as my muscles continued to be jittery from the shocks and said "Good, I'm your new trainer, Jake Okami, but everyone calls me Red. Get used to it. Anyway, if you agree to behave, not shock random people, and never use that much voltage on someone not used to electricity without it being life or death, again, I will gladly leave you out of your ball." She let out a few pikas and chus, which I roughly interpreted to 'Throw in something delicious, and I'll agree.' I nodded and said "Got it, I'll find something you can enjoy to eat. That said, welcome to the team Pi, the dragon is Christina, the old man is Professor Oak, and he's not part of the team, and the girls are Blue and Green, my childhood friends. You'll be meeting my family soon, and we have one more team member who will be an egg I have to keep on me most likely. Not too worried about her though, since I know dad specifically gave his vaporeon a shot so she'd have an egg instead of a live birth this time."
After saying that I thought about how that came into being, Jason had thought it odd that all Pokemon literally laid eggs, and instead made that an optional thing for the Pokemon. He made it where certain plants allowed for the Pokemon to switch from live, to egg births, and back depending on their situation, which then humans found and turned into a shot that did the same thing, without having to ingest, from how dad's espeon mentally described it, a rather disgusting herb. I waved over at Oak and my childhood friends then said "Can lower the shields, Pi, Christina, and I came to an agreement."The professor lowered the elemental shields and walked over. I waited patiently for him to come within reach, pretending everything was all good, then socked the old bastard in the stomach.
He bent over at the waist coughing and I said "That was for not training these two enough that anyone could be their trainer, as well as for locking me outside the shields. If I hadn't dodged Christina's attack, I'd be dead right now, and Pi's shock would have killed anyone without some electrical resistance or aura training if they had the potential. I'm not sure if I have the potential for the second due to the fact none of my family will tell me if we have aura users in the family tree, and I only have the resistance from the first thanks to Dad's jolteon, and mom's zebstrika shocking the shit out of me due to me asking them to, as "training." I mean in a way it was training, for my electric resistance, but Dad gave me such an ass whooping for doing it. Anyway, anything to say professor or can we all go home?"
Oak slowly got to his feet, rubbing his stomach and said "Five things and you three are free to go. The first is that I knew you could handle those two, after all you always talk about being a Pokemon master, and we know that Pokemon Masters have to be able to handle anything thrown at them. Second, lI was going to have the girls battle each other for some experience, as obviously your Pokemon are too dangerous to battle other starters. Third, I'm very proud how you handled your two Pokemon partners, you realized right away Christina needed a firm hand, while you could be more lenient with Pi. Fourth, I have a package I need you three to pick up from Viridian City Finally, fifth I'd like you to test out the new and improved Pokedex for me and hopefully complete it, since Rose and Alex never managed to. Oh, also I'm experimenting with a porygon upgrade to the Pokedex, and a phone that I may sell the patent of to Silph co. Do you kids want to test out both?"
I grinned and said "I'm all for it, a free phone and an upgraded Pokedex? Count me in." The girls nodded in agreement and said they'd like them to. I hummed softly and said "Professor, when do you want the girls to have their battle, and do I have to be here for it, or can I just meet up with them at the road out of town after talking to my parents?"
The professor seemed to know what I was getting at, as he seemed to be deep in thought on my question and said "If you don't want to see the girls teams, then I guess you can go home to finish preparing for your trip after I hand each of you your Pokedexes and porygon phones." I nodded and he walked back to his desk then came over carrying three phones, each with it's own case, and three different colored Pokedexes. He handed me the two Red and Black ones, Blue the Ocean Blue pair of devices, and Green, the literal leaf green pair. He smiled and said "Why don't you three try out your Pokedexes on each other's Pokemon, and your own partners, then Red can head home to finish packing since I believe Green just needs to grab her bag, and Blue left hers here in the lab last night."
We nodded and pointed our Pokedexes at the four Pokemon one by one, each of us choosing our partners first, and the girls scanning both of my partners last. My Pokedex beeped after scanning all four and I looked at their entries. Starting with Christina my Pokedexes entries read "Charmander the fire salamander Pokemon. People can tell it's mood, the status of it's health, and it's mental state depending on the flame at the tip of it's tail. This charmander is female and a mutation. She has both the Fire typing and Dragon typing, with the Dragon being prevalent. This may lead to her developing differently from most of her species as she evolves. This charmander's Nickname is Christina, and she is registered to Jake "Red" Okami. As this charmander is the user's Pokemon, her known moves can be stated. She currently knows the moves bite, dragon claw, dragon fang, dragon tail, dragon rage, scratch, tail whip, and growl. This charmander is level 6 on the Pokemon Leveling Scale." I whistled softly and said "Christina is a beast, are all of her other moves egg moves professor, cause I know, scratch, tail whip, and growl are all beginner moves for a charmander."
The professor nodded and said "Yes, she was born from my charizard and dragonite. She actually took on traits of both her parents. Honestly, I should have trained her better before giving her to you, but I wanted to test you to see how good a trainer you were, and if your work with the ranch Pokemon was a fluke. I'm sorry about hat my boy." I shrugged and waved it off as water under the bridge. The old man smiled at me and said "Thank you my boy, now why don't you check the other three Pokedex entries?"
I nodded and checked Pi's entry next. The Pokedex entry stated "Pikachu, the electric mouse Pokemon. Pikachu are very friendly Pokemon, and usually release small amounts of electricity from their cheeks upon meeting new creatures in way of greeting. Male pikachu have a lightning bolt tipped tail, while females have a heart shaped tail tip. Pikachu usually live in large groups around the world, and are considered a trainer's first challenge to catch in many regions due to their quick feet, somewhat strong electrical attacks, and a tendency to flee from humans on sight. This pikachu is female, and her nickname is Pi. As the user is the owner of this pikachu, her moves can be read. They are as follows growl, tail whip, Thunder, electroball, and volt tackle. This pikachu is currently level 8 on the Pokemon Leveling system. A note to the user, the Pokemon leveling system is a generalization of Pokemon strength, and only goes up to level 100, at which point the leveling system is useless due to the fact that Pokemon with over level 100 power are rather rare in the wild, and among most trainers except the elite."
I nodded at that and muttered "Yeah, explains why level 100 is the cap, and also that the Pokemon leveling system is a generalization, not an actual accurate depiction of power, speed, intelligence, or any other trait of a Pokemon." Next I turned to Green's partner's entry. The Pokedex beeped and said "Bulbasaur, the grass dinosaur Pokemon. Bulbasaur generally have an insular nature when not with their herds. They have a bulb on their back that usually contains sap, and starts to glow as they evolve, before flowering and growing larger with each successive evolution. The sap of a bulbasaur's bulb is considered a delicacy by many bug type Pokemon that enjoy the sap of trees. The user is not the owner of this bulbasaur, so as such no more data can be revealed. "
Finally I checked Blue's squirtle's entry. The Pokedex beeped and the porygon within stated "Squirtle, the tiny turtle Pokemon. Squirtles generally spend their lives near the ocean where they live with their family, usually a group of blastoise and wartortle. Squirtle are one of the easier Pokemon for trainers to take care of as they are generally very kindhearted and forgiving of their trainers faults when they know their trainer is starting out. However, when a trainer has experience but keeps making the same mistake over and over, even the patients of this tiny turtle can be tested. As the user is not the owner of this Squirtle, that is all the data that can be displayed besides general statistics, this is also the case for bulbasaur, and any other Pokemon the user does not own."
I checked the physical statistics of all four Pokemon after that, keeping in mind what porygon had said. Christina was 3 feet tall, weighed 110 pounds, and was above average on both of these stats. Pi was 1 foot 6 inches tall, and weighed a mere 5 pounds, making her a little different from the average pikachu, but her electrical sacks in her cheeks were larger than most Pikachu according to porygon. As for Christina, her tail flames heat was stronger than the average charmaander's which surprised me. I mean the thing had been wrapped around my neck and it just felt no hotter than a spring day. I glanced at bulbasaur and squirtle's data just for the hell of it and made a mental note of their average height, weight, and common characteristics. Afterward I turned to the professor and said "I'm off professor, girls I'll see you at the edge of town after the three of us are done with anything we need to do." They nod and waved me off, Blue looking nonplussed that I wasn't going to watch their battle, while Green just smiled and dragged Blue out back to the professor's personal battle area where he had his Pokemon work on their strength.
After seeing them off to the arena, the professor turned to me and said "Be careful my boy, I have a feeling you're going to keep getting into trouble as time goes on, and not everyone is going to be as lenient as me." I nodded at that, knowing he was probably right on both counts. He smiled sadly and said "The world is changing, and if your sister's letters are right, something I thought a friend took care of a long time ago is coming back. I also have the feeling that criminals are not going to be the worst thing we face in the near future, but at the least, you and the girls shouldn't have to worry for a few years." I snorted at that having a feeling that the old Ranseian curse "May you live in interesting times," was going to come to pass. I hoped I was wrong, but I felt like Jason had done that specifically to test not only himself, but the people, Pokemon, and other creatures of this world.
I smiled sadly at the professor and said "I hope you're right professor, but with Alex's disappearance, my sister's letters, and the fact that crime in Kanto is on a rise? I think me and the girls are going to have a lot more trouble than things are worth." He sighed and nodded then walked out to oversee the girls battle, while I headed out the front door of the lab and headed back to my parent's house. I walked the street with Pi and Christina on my shoulders, as the people asked what the girls were up to, and when we were setting off. I explained that they could give us a proper send off later, as first we had to retrieve a package for the professor. The townsfolk nodded and thanked me for the info, then said they'd see the three of us off on our journey to Viridian, because really only one of us would be needed to to bring the package back, and most likely the other two would continue on with their journey. I nodded at that and told them it was most likely the case, but I had to hurry home and they let me go.
When I got to the house I opened the door, only to have my father shove an incubator into my chest and say "Welcome back, I see you got two partners." I nodded staring at him confused and he said "Sorry, just, your mom and I are in a hurry, there's an emergency in the sea foam islands, and your mom has to get back to the Indigo plateau for some Kanto champion stuff. So, we're in a bit of a hurry. You can finish packing what few things you missed, and we'll call you after things are dealt with, alright?" I nodded and gave him the number to my porygon phone making him laugh and say "Better than a rotom phone I guess." I'd heard about rotoms, and how they could be annoying little bastards, and aside from being a bit sassy, I was enjoying my porygon in my Pokedex, I was kinda curious what the porygon in my phone was like. He ruffled my hair after pulling off my cap then placed it back on my head and said "Talk to you in a few days kiddo, have fun on your journey."
I nodded as I stepped out of his way, and he called out his fearow then took off into the air on his back. I couldn't help but muse aloud "Where the hell did dad get a male fearow?" I walked in the house after saying that and saw mom packing up a lunch for herself, as well as a few important documents she'd brought home with her, and said "I see your about to head out too, eh mom?" She nodded at me as she finished checking her stuff then walked over and kissed my forehead. I smiled at her, surprised we were about the same height, while Dad was a full four inches taller at at 6 and a half feet, when most women were less than six feet tall.
Mom smiled and said "Good luck on your journey sweetie, don't forget to brush your teeth, change your underwear, and take good care of your Pokemon. Also, your bag is mostly packed, with enough space for your incubator, so just grab it when you're ready to leave, lock up the house, and head out, alright?" I nodded and she hugged me tight then said "See you around my little man, and don't forget that your father and I are always just a phone call away if you get into too tight a spot to deal with on your own, alright?" I nodded again and she smiled then walked out the door and closed it behind her while I went to my bag, stuffed the incubator inside, and grabbed a Cinnabar Volcano burger from the fridge. I knew mom had left me one from last night, and I quickly devoured it, knowing the spice would be good even cold. After that I looked around the house, trying ot think of anything I might be missing. After a while, I shrugged and said "I guess I have everything, time to get my ass on the road."
I walked out the door, locked it behind me, and started for the edge of town where I could see a crowd gathering. As I approached, the crowd parted and I saw the girls in the middle looking bored, and anxious to get the hell out of pallet town. I walked up and grinned at them saying "So, ready to head to Viridian City, also, no one sings the stupid song." Green giggled, knowing my particular distaste for that well known song popularized by Kanto trainers who got their starters from Oak, and sung by a certain band who had heard it from said trainers. I stretched as the girls nodded at me and the three of us set off at a brisk walk, deciding to try to catch a few Pokemon along the way, but hoping we could get to Viridian by night time, and whoever had to bring back the professor's package could catch up in a day or two. As we walked I started whistling softly then said "Girls, I'll be the one to take the package back." They glanced at me surprised.
I smiled slightly sadly and said "Blue, you want to get out there to find Alex as soon as possible, and Green, you want to see the world. I have the least attachment to back home, cause I know you both would stay if the professor or anyone in town asked you two to do so. Also, need to ask Oak a few things on my own, and I promise I'll catch up. So, just keep going after we get to Viridian, and I'll stay at the Pokemon center over night, before meeting up with you guys in Pewter where we'll have a proper battle if you guys are prepared, deal?" They sighed but nodded and I grinned saying "Awesome, then LET'S GO!" They laughed and we started running along the road while laughing and pushing each other gently with my partners letting out cheers at the passing scenery.
As we got close to the small grove of trees separating Viridian City from Pallet Town, I glanced at the girls and asked "Want to battle a few wild Pokemon, or just run on through, since we have no pokeballs?" They glanced at each other then turned to me and shook their heads. I nodded and said "Then onward to Viridian City." We passed by a girl who was probably around our age, maybe a year or two older, and waved at her.
She waved back and Blue whispered to us "Didn't that girl look like on of the Cerulean City gym leaders?" I blinked wondering if she was right, then realized that the person fishing may have been Misty from Cerulean City, and had to wonder, just what the fuck did Jason do to make the world like this. After passing the girl who may or may not have been Misty, we continued on our way, as the sky started to darken with thunderheads. I couldn't help but groan and Blue said "Should we make a run for it, or should we just pull out a few tarps and hunker down?"
I glanced at Green who shrugged and pointed at me, basically saying it was my decision since I'd be the one who had to come back along the path and the most delayed. I weighed our options in my mind, and couldn't help but say "Let's keep going, pull on Rain Jackets, and try to beat the storm to Viridian. I have the feeling this storm won't be too bad, at least not right now, cause most of the Pokemon seem to be staying out and about, and in bad storms they'd be roosting." The girls couldn't help but nod as we pulled on rain slickers, and started running, trying to get to Viridian as quickly as possible. I mentally reviewed if we could have made it back to the girl who was fishing's camp, and figured, it was a long shot since we'd passed her about twenty minutes ago, and the rain was moving in a bit faster than I was originally expecting.
It was times like these I really missed having one of my parent's ridable Pokemon like a ponyta, rapidash, or hell an arcanine. Fuck, I'd take a ryhorn like Grace's mother road, or a gogoat like Alexis from the damn anime in Jason's memories. Anything would be better than running on foot through the rain, and any Pokemon could have probably cut our travel time in half. Sadly, none of us had a ridable Pokemon, and there were no ranches donating such Pokemon to Oak in Kanto, yet. I made a note of finding that one ranch from the anime, if Jason was so kind as to freaking make it a part of our world, and get myself a ponyta. We kept running, even as the rain started to close in from behind, and I noticed that there were sign posts along the road. I glanced at one and saw we only had three miles left before we were off route one, and into Viridian City. I told the girls and we redoubled our pace, knowing we could make that in half an hour at most, fifteen minutes at least, as long as nothing slowed us down.
I knew we'd get drenched before we reached town, but at least I had company with me. The girls seemed to feel the same way as me, because they just kept running right alongside me, even as the skies opened up over our heads and tried to drown us. I held Christina in my arms, and let Pi hide in the hood of my slicker so they wouldn't get to wet. Of course, this made me look as awkward as hell to anyone who happened to see us, a guy carrying a charmander that was larger than average, with a pikachu hiding in his rain coat? Yeah not suspicious at all, right? Amazingly, I guess so, because we got to the Pokemon center unmolested, and Nurse joy allowed us to register for the league. She also said the professor's package was at the Pokemart but we should rest up first. I readily agreed and took one of the towels her chancy offered us, then plopped down on a couch in the center's lobby with a sigh.
The girls sat on the couch across from me, as Christina and Pi had taken the spots on either side of me, and I studied them. Blue had messy brown hair, blue eyes, and a trim figure, with slightly above average chest, a slightly thinner waist, and pretty thick hips, making her have a bit of an hourglass, just a little bottom heavy. She was wearing her trademark blue hoodie under her rain coat, and black pants. Green however, had a small, almost pixie like build. A small, pert chest a slightly indented waist, and hips that were slightly in from her shoulders, with long black hair that reached her mid-back, green eyes, and was wearing a green crop top, jogger shorts, and checking her phone.
I compared their looks to their personalities in my mind, and they kinda fit. Blue was the "rough and tumble tom boy," while Green was the "Outgoing pixie." It fit their appearances pretty well, then there was me the "Lazy Troublemaker." An image I'd worked hard to cultivate outside my circle of friends and my family. I had made that image so that if something happened to me on the road, no one except my parents, Rose, and these two girls would care. Oak knew it, of course, but he went along because he and I both knew that the more people that trusted a trainer, the harder it was on the trainer if they had to go to an area where they couldn't be reached easily. Anyway, despite my nickname of being lazy, my own appearance was kept neat, except for my messy hair hidden by my cap, and the fact that I was soaking wet from the rain.
The girls smiled at me and said "So, now that we're out of Pallet Town, you going to finally drop the lazy asshole act?" I nodded and Blue said "Good, you gotta at least make people take the town seriously, Red. I know you generally like to act like a troublemaker back home, but if you want to find a girl, or heaven forbid be like some of the male champions in the past and start a harem, you have to be worth the effort for a girl to fall for, right Green?" Green, the ever chipper pixie, said "That's right Blue, Red's attitude kinda scared all the girls back home away, well his attitude and the fact he mainly hung out with the two of us, not sure why when both of us repeatedly told them we weren't interested in him...we did say that, right?" Blue blinked and considered that for a while then said, "I think so?"
I couldn't help but snicker at that and say, "You did not, and you actually had a habit of scaring away girls who came to talk to me, when they were visiting from out of town after we started our teen years." They blinked and blushed sheepishly making me laugh and say "No worries, now that we're out of town I can be my real self, and the girls will probably not find it too much trouble to approach a guy who may or may not be accompanied by two beautiful young women of differing personalities." They blushed deeper at that and looked at my eyes trying to see if I was lying about them being beautiful, and must have liked what they found cause they had small smiles on their faces. I meanwhile just leaned back on the couch I was sitting on and closed my eyes, at least I had my eyes closed until Pi and Christina poked my sides.
I opened them and looked at the two, then asked "Hungry?" They nodded and I got up then picked up my bag and pulled out two bowls, reminding myself to buy a third since I had three, rather than my expected two partners, and filled them with Pokemon chow designed for electric and fire type Pokemon. I set the bowls to either side of me, and the girls dug in while Blue and Green watched on and I lowered my cap over my eyes leaning back to nap.
My friends noticed what I was doing and Blue slapped my knee saying "Oh no, mister. You aren't napping right now, you need to make sure the rain stops and get Grandpa's package, then get a room for the night. You can sleep in there, we'll be doing the same, then in the morning we're going to head to pewter while you head back home. Got it?" I sighed and nodded as I grabbed my hat off my face and set it on my head then stared out the window on the wall behind the girls watching the rain.
Green giggled and said "Blue, you sure do handle him like a harsh task mistress, you know it wouldn't kill him to nap until the rain stopped." Blue just shrugged and Green said "You're too used to his image back home, of sleeping no matter what was going on, aren't you?" Blue blushed and nodded while Green chuckled and said, "You realize that he actually has a habit of training his ass off when no one's around, which was why he seemed lazy all the time, right? Also we both know he'd probably head back right after getting the package if not for the storm, and the fact he wouldn't be there before nightfall since the roads will probably be muddy as heck."
Blue nodded sighing and I hummed then said "Thanks for looking out for me Blue, Green. I love you girls." They blushed and looked at me as if trying to figure out what type of love I was talking about. I merely smiled mysteriously making them groan and mutter about me being a tease. Which, in a way I was, because I honestly didn't know if I meant familial, platonic, or romantic love when it came to those two, as my memories were still a little jumbled. I noticed the rain was slowing down a bit, so I said "You girls get rooms, while I go get the professor's package, then I'll get my own room, and we'll call it a day, yeah?" They nodded and I glanced at my partners who were still eating contentedly before asking "You two mind watching Christina and Pi?" They shook their heads in the negative, meaning that they didn't mind at all, and I smiled in thanks then walked out into the rain and jogged over to the Pokemart.
I approached the Pokemart in time to see two people walking out with a Pokemon at their feet. I didn't get a good look at the three of them, but I could tell the Pokemon was a meowth, and the people were a guy and a girl. The only reason I knew one was a guy, was because his facial features were too masculine, and his voice was a bit deeper, though I couldn't make out what he was saying. I shrugged, figuring it wasn't important and walked into the Pokemart. I smiled at the cashier and said "Hey there, I'm here to pick up Professor Oak's order?"
The man behind the counter smiled at me and said "Hi, can I see some ID because Professor Oak said only a lab certified trainer was allowed to pick up this package." I nodded and pulled out my Pokedex, before handing it to him and letting the internal porygon do its thing. He checked my appearance with the one stored on the Pokedex, the porygon confirmed that my Pokedex wasn't stolen, and he handed it back to me. He smiled and said "Alright Mister Okami, here's the professor's package, though I think you should wait until tomorrow to head back to Pallet Town, as this storm is supposed to get worse over night, and not let up until morning."
I nodded and said "Thanks for the information, I'll tell my companions we're in Viridian for the night, then I'll head back in the morning before coming back to town tomorrow, and probably setting out for Viridian Forest in two days time." He nodded and wished me well, saying he'd be having a fresh stock of pokeballs in the morning, so my friends and I could drop in and buy some at that time. I thanked him for the information and walked back to the Pokemon Center to tell the girls the, semi good news.
It took me ten minutes, through a rain that was increasing in it's volume of downpour to get back to the center and I saw the girls at the counter talking to Nurse Joy, with Pi and Christina standing at the girls' feet. I walked over, and my partners hopped on my shoulders, then the three of us rented rooms and I warned the girls about the clerk's words. They nodded and said they'd wait for the weather to clear then , and probably buy pokeballs in the morning, then the three of us went to our rooms, though as I was going to my room, I saw the girl that Blue and Green were pretty sure was a Cerulean City Gym Leader's look alike, or one of the four of them herself, enter the center looking worse for wear. I shrugged off the sight and walked to my room then closed the door, put my incubator on my dresser, let the girls lay down on the bed, Christina and Pi both curling up on pillows on one half of it, then took a shower, pulled on afresh pair of underwear and a tank top, and crawled into bed before passing out for a few hours.
