Chapter 2: The New Guy

The bright light had made Colin wince and shut his eyes, covering them as a powerful wave of heat washed over his body. He slowly opened his eyes and gasped. All around him it looked like something of a jungle; something most reptiles or feral cats would obviously enjoy. But in front of him was a large stone palace of sorts, looking like something out of a science fiction novel.

"So, what do you think?" Sam asked as he led the boy out of the carriage. He had designed his home himself at the age of 14 and two years later it had been finished. "I worked hard to design this place as my home."

"It...It's amazing..." he said breathlessly, his eyes fixed onto the amazing building. Colin could hear the sounds of the jungle echoing all around him, and the heat was incredible. "Is...Is it just you here...?"

Sam couldn't help but laugh as he wrapped his arm around the boy. "No. I have other pets such as yourself who work for me either for profit or to repay a debt. They are all very nice. I have had bad pets in the past, but they were severely punished for it."

At this point, Colin blinked in surprise; her? If Sam was gay, why did he keep a female around. He soon guessed that it was probably a sort of business relationship. Colin nodded faintly and silently followed Jess the moment she started walking, keeping his eyes glued to the floor like he had been bad earlier and now felt guilty. Without Sam around, without anyone familiar around him, he felt a little unsafe.

Suddenly, he felt himself bump into someone, causing him to fall backward with a thud. "O-Ow, sorry I wasn't..." his face turned a bright red, not to mention contorted into a look of visible shock, as he stared up as a large reptile. From the looks of it though, this reptile was a Tyranosaur!

"Oh, hello there, Cutie. You must be a new pet. That right, Jess?" the reptile asked.

"Yes, he is. Eric, I'd like you to meet Colin. Colin, this is Eric. He's an amazing chef. He and his husband are working as pets for Sam to help get money for a house," Jess explained.

"Well, I was just looking for you Jess to let you know that there was a small fire in the kitchen. If you want, I could help out with Colin here while you go take care of that," Eric suggested.

"Oh, alright. I was showing him to his room. 34B," Jess said as she ran off to another part of the house.

Colin swallowed nervously while he stood up, a little shaken up from literally running into Eric. He suddenly remembered Sam mentioning someone named Eric, and he looked even more worried. I have stuff to do and I don't have time to join them. You might want to get some rest though. I have another job for you tonight."

He sighed again as he went to go make dinner, knowing that he was going to have a hungry family that night.
