New Beginnings Chp 4
#4 of New Beginnings
Focused around Mark. Sorry for the delay, I've been really busy the last couple of weeks.
Mark woke up at about one in the morning. He needed to use the bathroom, and, like every night he gets up, also drink some water from the kitchen. The bathroom was down the hall after Eric's bedroom.
Eric had gotten home a few hours before. Mark was in the living room when the door slammed and Eric stormed past up the stairs into his room. Mark knew he tended to pout when he was angry and wouldn't want to talk or anything so he let him be.
After Mark had left the bathroom he was going to go to the kitchen. When he walked by Eric's bedroom he heard a sound which was faintly like sobbing. Mark listened for a few seconds deciding if he should go into the room to see what was wrong. He decided against it and went down to get some water.
When he came back to the door the room was silent. He assumed Eric had fallen asleep. He shrugged it off and went back to his room to sleep the rest of the night away.
His alarm woke him up at 6:00 to get ready for the day. He lazily got out of bed and walked to the bathroom. He was about to open the door when he hears the shower on.
"Mom?"
"Nope."
"What are you doing up? You DO know it's not 7:00 right? This is not natural. What have you done with Eric?" Mark finished up with a laugh.
"Fuck off Mark, I'm not in the mood."
"Aw, is sometwing wo-" He cut himself off after remembering what he heard the night before. "Just hurry up Eric, I have to get ready."
"Whatever."
They got to school much earlier than they have ever before. Mark couldn't stop thinking of what could get his brother feeling so down. He went to his homeroom and put his stuff down. He never stayed in the room because his teacher was a large bull and coach to the football team. Mark was really intimidated by him. He tended to slip in, put his stuff down, leave, and walk around the halls until his friends arrived.
Mainly all the teachers knew who he and Eric was due to their mother so he tried to avoid them at all costs. His mom tended to tell many stories about them, many embarrassing stories. His mom actually came into one of hsis classes to talk to the teacher and she saw him. She then talked to the entire class about his first date and asked the girls to go out with him.
Mark was walking leisurely through the building when he saw Eric's friend. 'What's his name again? Lance? No. Larry? No. Lucas? Yes! Lucas! Maybe he knows whats wrong with Eric. They have been spending a lot of time together.'
"Hey Lucas!"
"Wha-" Lucas turned around with a small jump, "Oh, hey Mark. What's up?"
"Not much. Listen, have you noticed if anything happened recently to Eric? He has been really weird all morning. A sad weird."
Lucas just looked at Mark. It was a little painful for him to hear Eric's name. It only made him remember how hurt Eric made him. "What do you mean?" He didn't want to tell Mark anything because he might blame him.
"Well, last night I was walking by his room, okay?"
"Right."
"And, well, I kinda heard him crying in there."
"Eric was crying?"
"Yeah, do you know whats wrong? I don't want to ask him because I know he can be really sensitive at time like this and get really really angry very fast."
"Sorry, but I don't know anything that happened." Lucas lied, "I'll try to find out though."
"Great 'cause his mood is killing mine."
"Right... Well bye."
Mark thought about what he just said. "Wait, that is NOT what I meant!"
"Yeah, okay."
"Also you didn't hear any of this from me."
Lucas nodded, turned, and walked away. Mark watched as his tail swished around the corner. 'He definitely knows something.' Mark thought to himself.
After his first classes he made his way over to his table to meet his friends. All his friends were there. "Hey guys, anything new?"
"Hey Mark," said the lioness, "nothing has changed since this morning, like always."
"Well, Cay, a lot can happen in two hours," said a large, jet black wolf, "I walked all the way to Petunia and got nice big bowl of... whatever this is."
"It is really weird you call the lunch lady by her name Grant," said the grey wolf sitting next to him, "You're supposed to call her 'The Lunch Lady' like the rest of us."
"Oh my Gosh, that sounds like the name to a horror movie!" said a dragon covered in dark blue scales and tan ones on his cheat, "You should make movie names for the rest of your life Lizzy."
"That was the stupidest thing I have ever heard Ricky," said a tall brown horse to his right, "I would totally see that with you!"
"Oh, Matt, stop encouraging him," said a smaller version of the dragon with lighter scales, "You're gonna make him do it more!"
"Jess, stop fussing! They're guys, let them be guys!" said a cheetah in equal height to the dragon, "He's your brother after all!"
"Yeah Jess, Sam is right," said Matt, "Stop fussing. We're guys. Wait, is that good or bad?"
The table continued to be loud and rowdy. They started an argument about the best names for movies that could be made. Mark sat next to Cay.
"So, you think they know how loud they are being right now?"
"I really think they don't, Marky." The lioness said as she pushed her way under Mark's arm.
"Cay, that's really annoying, please stop calling me that. You know I hate it."
"I know." said Cay with a grin and moved in for a kiss.
Mark leaned into it with joy. The bell rang and they had to pull away. "I hate school so much right now!" Mark said with a groan.
"Calm down, Marky. See you later, m'kay?" She said with a wink and walked away.
Mark turned around to grab his stuff and he saw Eric staring at him from the other side of the room. 'Well that's a little creepy.' He thought to himself. 'I better talk to him later.'
After school was over Mark looked for Eric. He had decided that he should go and ask him what was wrong and tell him what he saw at break. He was looking all around the school for him and was about to give up when he saw Lucas.
"Lucas, have you seen Eric? I can't find him anywhere. Did you get anything out of him?"
"No and no. Haven't seen him since our last block."
"Well, thats strange, you guys usu-" Mark cut his words short when he saw something behind Lucas, who, in turn, looked at what caught Mark's attention.
They saw Eric come out of the Janitor's closet with an arm around a doe. Mark could not believe what he just saw, but Lucas could not stand it. He looked at Eric in anger. He made a loud growl which got Mark's attention.
Eric saw Mark and Lucas, but focused more on Lucas. He smirked at him which caused Lucas to turn around and storm away.
Mark saw what Eric had done, but did not know why. When Lucas left, he went after him. He walked in the direction he saw Lucas go, but didn't see him. 'Why is it so hard to find people in this place.' Mark thought to himself. He walked through the parking lot until he saw Lucas' car. He went to the window and saw Lucas with his head on the wheel.
Knock Knock
Lucas looked up from the wheel to see who was knocking. He saw it was Mark so he unlocked the door. Mark opened it and asked, "Can I come in?"
"Why do you think I unlocked the door?"
"Lucas, what happened? He's been nicer since he met you, but today it changed. Was it that chick? Do you guys both like her or something and he went and did that?"
"You couldn't be more wrong Mark."
"What do you mean?"
"Mark this doesn't involve you. Why do you care so badly?"
"It does involve me actually. Eric is my brother."
"Fine, you wanna know what's wrong? What happened? I'll tell you."
"That's all I really want."
"I'm gay Mark, and pretty openly too. Most of the school knows and no one really cares here." Mark said very flustered.
"And?"
"And Your fucking brother, he definitely knew too. I am a really straight-forward guy so I tend to do a lot of things bluntly. I was flirting with Eric and he didn't say to stop. If he did I would have stopped, but he had to be a queen make a scene of telling me off. The next thing I see him doing is leaving a fucking closet with some bitch." Lucas finished talking and was breathing really hard. He was angry at Eric and hurt he would do something like that.
Mark just looked at Lucas. He didn't know what to say or if he should say anything at all. It looked to him that Lucas needed to vent, so he let him.
They sat in the car for a few minutes in silence.
"Eric's can be a dick, Lucas, but I think he is mad at himself for what he did to you."
"How can you possibly know that?"
"I've only seen Eric cry when me or ourmom was hurt. He didn't do it openly, but he did get pissed and really angry. That's what he's doing now. He hurt you, he cried in private, and he is angry outwardly. Someone he cares about has been hurt, and that's you."
Lucas looked at Mark, searching for any indication that he was lying.
"He might not know it yet Lucas, but he does care."
Mark got out of the car and walked away leaving Lucas to his thoughts.
