A bit of fun...

I slept well, and awoke after a couple of hours. The next couple of weeks, as the glowers had informed me they had arranged me to have holidays at work on full pay, yet not affect my numbers of hours I had. I frankly took them on their word, holidays were not something I understood. But as I got up and did a quick search through my closet for something more suitable for a glower, I heard a knock on the door.

"Alduin, er, if you're awake, um," Alecto's voice was slightly nervous.

"It's O.K., be there in a minute, Alecto." I said cheerfully, and finished dressing. I came out, and found that three were waiting for me. Alecto, with his new gained eagle wings fluttering nervously, Valmeero, who looked calm but respectful, and Silverine, who looked very nervous. Silverine was always scared of the glowers, for some reason I never knew.

As to what I was wearing, it was actually fairly simple. I was barefoot, shoes were unnecessary, and while I maintained my black trousers, I had complimented it with a dark green army shirt and on top of that a very simple silver cloak (it was white but I had changed it), fastened with a with a simple clasp. The look I was after was famously described by Asprin, quiet power, and it seemed to go down well with the others when I saw their expressions.

"I didn't know I'd ordered an escort." I said with a grin, and Valmeero laughed. Silverine chuckled weakly, his uneven eyes explaining he found it a bit funny. There was one thing I never asked him as well, how did he come by that scar across his eye? And why didn't he go to Arachno to get the thing fixed? Then I realised this was stupid, Silverine kept his war wounds as a matter of pride. Alecto smiled, the idea of the three winged hybrids hanging about my door was amusing.

"Keen,"I thought," You've been there longer than I have, how did Silverine come by that scar, it looks awful?"

"I would ask Silverine, he's the owner of it." the glower pulsed back. I took the hint, and resolved to ask later.

"So what am I required to do?"I asked out loud in interest.

"You're not required to do anything, Alduin, but we wanted to know what you wanted to do." Silverine replied.

I nodded. The respect the scouts had for the glowers meant my presence would be checked every hour. So I had to come up with something fast. What to do, what to do?I was just about to suggest something when Abigail clicked on to talk to us.

"Silverine, could you come to the tech planet, I've got something to show you guys."

"Um, we're with Alduin right now?"

"Does he want to come?"

"I'm sure I'd be intrigued. What am I to be looking at?"

"I had some free time, and decided to have a look at some of your more vintage vehicles so..."

"This I gotta see!" I laughed, and teleported on spot.I landed on Central briefly, and then teleported again, landing gently on the concrete pit lane. Abigail was standing by on of the garages, and as my escort landed, I jogged over to her.

"So what's in there?" I asked, curiously, with a grin.

"Well, I sort of made four or five,"Abigail kicked the ground in front of me, blushing," they were all so beautifully built I couldn't resist it."

I sidled past the lioness, and gave a great laugh of delight. I was seven years old again, and looking at my pin ups. As I walked past each, I named them off.

"Ferrari F40, in proper red, why am I not surprised in the least?" I looked at Abigail, who blushed, and I moved to the next one.

"Lotus Esprit, the famous underwater Bond car, proper white, god it looks nice like that." I noted the rear spoiler, and moved on.

"Jaguar XJ220?" I looked at the sleek Thatcherian car. It was in British racing green, and even now was considered a crazy looking car. Brilliant piece of engineering though,it could outstrip many of the modern cars we had.

Then we moved across the Atlantic to a more practical warhorse.I looked at Abigail with a touch of irony.

"This is a 1985 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1, in silver, Abigail. I've always wanted to drive one of these. Some fellow who doesn't know what he has has left one of these under a bridge near where I work, I walk past it every week."

"It is a good looking car, and the engineering is pretty special."

I agreed, and as the others were looking at the first couple, I got to fifth car.

"Da, dost Deutsch. Ze BMW M1, I believe, in black." Abigail had given up, I was too good at my classics, and she nodded. Then I saw the last car, and I laughed. Hiding behind the M1 was the original cute car. Everyone turned at my hysterics.

"Alduin, what are you giggling about?"

I walked behind the M1, and around the back of the car. The car was pretty light, as it was originally, and it moved freely forwards. There was an outburst of laughter.

"What the hell is it?" Alecto laughed, hovering into the air as his wings were shaking so hard. Silverine was grinning, and Valmeero was coming over to look at it.

"It's an old Mini." Abigail explained, and left me to explain the advantages of the little car.It was very clever, fitted lots of people, had a tiny turning circle, was actually pretty quick, good on fuel, and had a big boot. It had been used in several movies, including the Italian Job and Goodbye Pork Pie, and was famous in it's own right.Pretty cheap at the time, as well.

Valmeero motioned me to come around the front, and as we look at the squat blue car, he bent down.

"Abigail, why this?"

"It's a classical car, and fairly practical. At least if you go down a street you won't be pointed at." Abigail tried to defend herself.

Valmeero placed both paws underneath the front, and with a classic heave, lifted the entire front half off the ground. Silverine broke out in laughter, and Alecto sat down heavily on the Lotus, holding his sides in merriment.

"I should not be able to do that." Valmeero looked at the lioness, who had both paws behind her back and looking at the front wheel of the Ferrari with a blush.

"I'll grant it,"I interrupted,"That at least she's built a practical car, compared to the super cars."

"Oh sure, it's less noticeable, but that's because there is no car to speak of." Valmeero lowered the car back down,"I could push this car end over end."

"Only if you wanted to break everything." I pointed out.

Now seeing as I was six foot two, I couldn't fit in the Mini, it was just impossible, so it would have to be driven by someone who wasn't over six foot. Kodey was suggested, Gareth turned up, Ryan Lewis also, Billy Carlson, and Kodey arrived with Takori. Kodey was quite happy to try the Mini out for size, while Valmeero had another poke at the thing by pulling it ten degrees to the left.

"For Central's sake, Kodey, don't drive it too fast over a ridge, it'll take off." the wolf hybrid exclaimed.

I pulled Abigail over to the Ferrari, and got her into the passenger seat. She was blushing heavily, and I smiled warmly at her, looking at the Kevlar seats.

"Incredible as usual, Abigail. Don't mind the mockery of the Mini, we're all impressed by your work."

Kodey drove out of the garage, his horn tooting at the two winged hybrids in his way. Silverine tried out the XJ220, weird guy, weird car, nice match.Valmeero got in with him. Ryan Lewis got the chance to drive something from before his birth but his own country, the Corvette. The Lotus was taken by Takori and Alecto, Takori driving, and that left Gareth and Billy with the M1. Billy won the argument to drive.

I followed the Mini down the pit lane. It was a ridiculous picture, the 60's Mini Cooper being followed by the 1988 F40, the car that had been one of the first road legal cars to clock 200 miles an hour.Everything the F40 was, the Mini wasn't. It was sleek, it was long, it hunkered down to the road with it's sloping nose, it only had two seats to the Mini's four, in short the Mini was the better road car, but the F40 was the ultimately better car for driving.

Kodey turned sharply back up the straight as we left the pit lane, score one for the Mini, it's turning circle was better than any car we owned. Ryan and his Corvette pulled out behind me, followed by the Lotus, the XJ and the M1.

"I know,"Silverine suggested,"Let's have a race round the track, winner gets to fuck the others."

Er, Silverine, not a good suggestion. The XJ220 could beat a Pagani Zonda, no one tell Winslo, but the F40 was a screamer on road and track alike.Unfortunately for everyone else, they thought their car was roughly equal, and it was agreed.

Then came the inevitable revs.Ryan's Corvette had an astonishing note, the Americans did noise well. The Mini did not bother, Kodey knew his only chance of winning this race was by everyone else breaking down. I briefly unleashed my V8, and the snarling purr of the Ferrari was almost unnoticed.

Abigail touched a button on her camera glasses, and as we lined up on the line, five lights came down, all red.The engine notes rose, and as the lights flicked on, I took hold of the handbrake with one hand, and held the steering wheel tightly. My foot hung poised, waiting for the second before the lights went out.

This particular Ferrari was legendary for it's turbo lag. On the streets, drivers used to comment to anyone they were driving with that they were keeping up with a Ferrari. The passenger would often look up and see the Ferrari a hundred metres down the road.

"No we're not." and the driver would be completely surprised and say that they had been. Abigail's fiddlings would have doubtless cured this moment of hope in everyone else, and so it was the case.

The lights went out, and everything went backwards in my mirror. The Mini had been next to me, and it didn't seem to be moving at all. To be truthful, Kodey had nailed the start perfectly, but I was a red bullet down the road. The XJ220 had the second best start, a good ten yards behind after a hundred metres, and falling back, and then Ryan Lewis in his Corvette. I'd hate to think how that thing would corner up the hill, the Lotus should get past on the winding turns, and also the BMW.

In a fashion I was so used to with my Atom, although not quite so ferociously, as the Ferrari was heavier and less explosive than the stripped out kit car, I raced ahead. Abigail was whimpering as I flung the Italian beast through hairpin after hairpin, leaving all the others behind.

"I'm getting that losing feeling again." Takori announced.

"Alduin's caning us, isn't he?" Billy asked.

"This can't be happening! This car looks so perfect a winner, how is his beating mine?" Silverine demanded.

"You think you're losing!" Kodey shouted," I haven't got to the first hairpin yet!"

"That does it." Ryan said firmly,"I'm getting into whatever car Alduin does, because he always picks the best."

I drifted through a corner,"I know the statistics of these cars, I have seen road tests on all of them, I was hardly likely to drive the 'Vette with the chance of the F40."

"He didn't pick the Mini either." Alecto added, to general laughter.

"He didn't pick the Mini because he can't fit in the Mini." I retaliated.

"Abigail, could I make a suggestion?" I added five seconds later.

"Yes?" the lioness closed her eyes, grabbing onto a hand grip.

"Next time you want to make some cars, try this one. Land Rover Series 3 109, from the seventies and eighties. It's a proper off road vehicle and yet carries lots."

"I will if I get out of this alive." Abigail moaned. The glower was laughing at the way I was thrashing the vehicle around.

"You are a superb driver of a car, Alduin." Keen said.

"It's a natural talent, I guess. I love cars." I thought back, and then went over the crest.

Silverine was actually causing a bit of a traffic jam up and down the hill. His car was not very good at going round corners, although Ryan was shouting that the Corvette was deliberately trying to throw him off the road round every bend. The Lotus and the M1 were right on the Lupogriff's exhausts all the way over the hill, and so when they got to Aurora, I was already half way down the straight, hitting second stage and getting up to a promising 530 kph before the Brake tester.

"I'd like to see this thing on Bonneville." I said honestly, steering into the corner. Abigail was still holding onto the grips, wordless. I crossed the line, and stopped the car in a 180 skid so I could see the cars coming after me. Two seconds after I cut the engine, Silverine led a snarling pack of Lotus and BMW around the final corner, and finished ahead of them both. Val cheered, although Takori and Billy were annoyed they hadn't got the better of the Lupogriff. I turned to Abigail, who was breathing deeply and slowly.

"Abby, are you alright?" I asked, concerned. Abigail nodded, wordless.

"I knew it was fast, I'd driven it myself."she managed.

"Just I was a little faster around the bends?" I smiled, as Ryan Lewis appeared round the corner in a huge wild drift. The car bit, and Ryan ended up backwards in the middle of a smoke screen.

"He's deployed smoke to stop us seeing the spectacle." Valmeero called gaily.

"You try and drive this piece of $&*£!" Ryan shouted back, and after doing a donut to face the right way, stormed across the line. Abigail still hadn't let go.

I took hold of her right hand, and gently rubbed it with both my hands.

"Abby, the car holds itself together." I chuckled, and Abigail smiled weakly.

"I think my arms have fused in position."

"Abby, would you like me to give you a glower jolt?" I said, suggesting it to her, and she breathed out, and slowly let go of the seat and the grip. She sunk back into her seat, holding her hands together, breathing deeply.

"So where's Kodey?" Takori asked.

"I bet he's somewhere between the crest and Aurora." I guessed.

"This thing won't go!" Kodey shouted,"It doesn't have any pace what so ever!"

"He's used to his NSX." Silverine laughed. There was general amusement.

"So where is he?"

"I'm going through Aurora now." the reindeer replied.

A couple of minutes later, the Mini three wheeled out of the final corner and wheezed towards the line. The others had lined up behind the Ferrari in order of finish, and the Mini rushed across the line.

"What was the top speed down the straight?" Ryan asked the reindeer.

" One hundred and ninety miles an hour, just ticking past three hundred kilometres. My NSX can do that in fourth. So Alduin won, I guess."

"He did." Silverine sighed."Best car is the F40."

"No."I disagreed firmly,"the best car is what you want from it. If you don't want everyone staring at you, the best car is the one that finished last, or maybe even the Lotus to stretch it. You look for performance, it's the F40."

"Still incredible the way he did it." Silverine replied.

"Abigail, get out of the car. Silverine, come over here." I nodded at the lioness, and she was all too happy to.

Silverine got into the passenger's seat, and shut the door, looking at me in query.

"Get your belt on."I suggested. Silverine did so, looking interested.

"Are you taking me for a lap, Alduin?"

I started up the engine. I idled forwards for about two hundred metres, while everyone else went about swapping cars. Then, still facing the wrong way, I turned to the Lupogriff.

"Are you ready?"

"Yeah, but why are we the wrong way?" The Lupogriff craned his neck to look behind him.

I put it into reverse, and floored it. We both were flung towards the front, held by our seat belts. I steered gently back into the middle of the race track, while everyone realised what was going on.

"Look out, he's coming in reverse!" Abigail stepped backwards. As I drew level with the other cars, I spun the wheel around, changed into first, and floored it again. The car spun like a top through the J-turn, and Silverine was flung sideways against the window, and then pressed back into his seat as I nailed it towards the first corner.

"How the hell did you do that?"

"Many people have wanted to know what makes a racing driver faster than anyone else around a track. Part of it is the commitment and practice, nothing I'm short of. Some of it is just the ability to multi task at speed, again I'm good at it, and part of it is youth. Youth has better reactions, the studies have proved it. Put all that together, add a ferocious car, and you get this." I braked late, and flung the car into the corner. Silverine yelped as the car went up onto the kerb, two wheeled briefly, and then flashed towards the complex series of hairpins and tight corners.

For the next three minutes, Silverine held on for dear life as I played with the Italian devil. I was being mean, I must admit. I was deliberately leaving it late, pushing it to the limit, drifting heavily through the corners, and by the time I got to the crest and it's side road leading down to the airfield, I slammed on the anchors and came to a halt on the side road. I drove down it slowly at about fifty kilometres an hour.

Silverine rubbed his paws down his face, disbelieving.

"You move so fast." he managed, as I stopped out of sight of the race track. I lay against the Kevlar seat, and took several deep breaths.

"It's a natural ability. I may not have strength, and many other things, but I am fast on the uptake, and my reaction time is good. And with a car as good as this, you don't need to have the arms of Draco to drive it." I said, placing my hands on my knees.

"I think if we've got to deliver a errand on anything involving corners, you're going to get volunteered."

"I don't mind." I shrugged, and opened the door.

"So what are we stopping for?" Silverine asked.

"Partly to take a breather,"I admitted," but mostly because I wanted to fuck you, and I felt you might want a little privacy."

"Well, now I know how,I can understand one thing."

"What?"

"It's no great shame to lose to you." he smiled, and got out of the car.

I smiled and followed suit. He grabbed a pair of handcuffs, and cuffed one of his wrists while sitting down next to the mesh fencing. He threaded the free cuff around one of the uprights on the fence, thick heavy pipe, and asked me to complete the job. I cuffed his other wrist, but not too tightly, making sure by asking him. I then began to strip Silverine.

Seeing as he wore only a pair of shorts and underwear, this did not take long. I pulled them both off, exposing the Lupogriff's handsome ass and cock. He was already erect,I grinned at this, and looked roguishly at Silverine.

"You're enjoying it already, then?"

The Lupogriff looked at himself, and then laughed.

"I am. I want to see what it's like, being fucked by someone merged. Just none of those pulses like you did to Alecto, I submit entirely." he spread his legs wide.

After I had decently fucked the Lupogriff a couple of times,we drove back down the rest of the track at a much more leisurely pace.Kodey was driving the Corvette, and he pulled level with me.

"This thing is really cool, just don't ask me about it's cornering."

"We already know about it's cornering, Kodey." Silverine replied," Ryan can't handle it either."

"Give it to Alduin."

"Alduin can't drive a Corvette, he'd bin it." I replied. Silverine laughed, disagreeing.

We drove side by side down the hill and down the long straight. As we did, Kodey asked.

"I saw that thing's readings, how well does it brake?"

"O.K., two hundred kilometres an hour, right?"

"Yes."

"Three, two, one, brake!"

I slammed on the anchors, as did Kodey.Silverine braced himself as the Ferrari slowed like it had encountered 400 hundred litres of water. The Corvette overtook me, and I stopped. Looking back I could see two black lines of tyre rubber left on the road. Kodey wrestled his car to a halt another forty yards down the track. His number eleven was a bit longer than mine, although when we went back to examine them, he had braked a metre later than I had.

"That explains the speed up the hill." Kodey said drily."Abigail said she wanted to test the braking capability of all the cars."

"Well, I'm free."

Abigail was absolutely delighted, and pretty soon I was taking each car, one by one, down the start finish straight, up to 200 and as I got across the finish line, hitting the anchors. Some stopped well, like my Atom, and the Lotus Doran owned, and also a couple of the Ferraris. Some punched above their weight, like the S-Class Merc, and the Veyron. Others did rather woefully. Simba's Charger gave no inclination to stop for about fifty metres, and even then it was sluggish to pull to a halt. The Pagani wasn't as bad as that, and the CCXR diced and dived, wanting to spin. The Mini didn't get up to 200 on the straight alone, so I had to drive back to the Tester, and then run in. It did stop well, though.

Valmeero turned up, and Abigail practically forced him to test the brakes on his F1. While he did, I parked the last car, and then stood at the end of my Atom marks. I looked up the straight, where Valmeero was turning, and stood firmly, arms folded. Valmeero spoke.

"What are you doing?"

"Proving a point. Two hundred, brake when you get to the start line, and aim at me."

"You are mad." the wolf shook his head, and I merely smiled. Abigail looked at me in slight worry, as Val began to speed up.

Were it not for the complete faith I had in the F1, I would have taken cover on it's approach. It did look scary, bearing down on me. Val was judging his speed, and looking for the start line. I stood, the wind gently blowing head on. Val got up to the speed easily, and then hit the brakes on the start line.

By god, it pulled up. I mean it really pulled up. Valmeero was thrust forwards, but though the car twitched a little, it pulled up fifteen metres shook of where I was standing.I ran a hand through my hair.

"Any further questions, ladies and gentlemen?" I smiled. Keen laughed.

"That is faith in physics.Mind you, that is a good point, the F1 car does everything performance wise better than anything on your planet." The others were standing in astonishment and appreciation, and Valmeero was breathing, looking surprised that he hadn't run me over. We went back to Central after Val had parked his car.

I had run into a bit of a problem. While I now had the unlimited power of the glower running through me, I couldn't think of anything much I wanted to do with it. I could create anything, sculpt, mould and otherwise play with the very atoms of the universe, but part of me was saying that there wasn't much point, and a lot of me was saying that the glowers didn't do it, so why should I. Keen was neither of these voices, but he knew what I was thinking on the subject.

"I offer no advice, Alduin. You are allowed to use my powers as you see fit."

Alecto was singing in his foxy tongue, a rather comedic song he had taught me, and he was using his wings to sustain his dance, jumping much further.Silverine walked quietly, who knows what he was thinking. Valmeero at first was telling me exactly what he thought about me standing in the road, and then talked about the sensation of the glower.

During the rest of the day, it was fairly quiet. Alecto was dewinged in the evening, which he objected to, but there was no arguing with me.

I slept soundly that night. So much had happened recently, this single human body could not possibly cope with everything that had been thrown at me without taking a mentally tiring punch or two.
