Entering the Abyss: Hope in Hell
#17 of The Great Balancing
Entering the Abyss.
The shinning blue steel blade rhythmically moved through the cool vulpine air, the shirtless dark blue grey wolf panted and huffed as he moved his body in time with his sword, leaping up along a tall staircase of an ancient fox temple; the near black cobble stones heavily over grown with moss and bushes. Kitt came to the top of the temple looking out over the expanse of the forest, a mere glimmer of light over the early night sky signified the capitol city, looked out over the scenery swinging his sword behind his back and sitting cross legged on the stone. "Four years..." General Stracarrius' voice echoed in his head. "By our estimate that is how long you and our home world has left until the plague adapts to your physiology and begins breaking it down. Since you're ascended you may be able to fight it off a little long but...four years..."
That was seven months ago, seven months since the climatic battle on the Alliance capitol with the super solider Caster and seven months since he got away into the multi-verse.
Kitt's wrist COM link beeped. "Kitt...talk to me..." he said with kind of a sigh.
"Sir, you're presence is requested at base zero one." a voice told him.
"Thank you, I'll be there in half an hour, Kitt out." he responded, quickly terminating the communication and stooding up, flying up into the air and towards the military base.
Kitt floated down onto the base grounds, tanks, aircraft and huge mechanized armored suits all sat in wait with their crews running repairs and system's checks. Flashing his ID Kitt is led into the main control room, where Stracarrius the aged graying wolf and Alec his fur shimmering white furred mate stood leafing through some papers. "Tell me, we've made some progress." Kitt said
"We hope so hon. we're still working to reverse engineer the multi-versal navigation system so it's not exact yet, but probes sent have been retrieved successfully." Alec responded.
"I don't understood, ten thousand years ago, inter-universe travel was common place, why are we having so many problems?" Kitt looked at one of the monitors as it shows one of the tests, a rectangular probe is enveloped by the white disc shaped portal and disappears, coming back a moment later chard to a crisp.
"Well what ever happened in the Great War back then, sealed space time here so to speak, it takes a lot more to break out of our universe." Alec continued. "But we're making progress; we should have the fully functioning ID drive operational within..." Alec looked to Stracarrius. "...two weeks, and installed in the Blackstar about a month after."
Kitt nodded. "Alright, but what was so important that I rush here?"
Alec smiled, "Oh well since you've been moping around here for about the last four months I figured it was time we went out and had a little fun, dinner, clubs, you name it."
Kitt chuckled and shook his head a bit. "Guess I can't take a rain check, eh?"
"Not on your life pretty boy, go and get ready, I'll be finished here in an hour."
The glass floor thumped with the ribcage rattling beat of dance music, lights flashing, flickering and beaming all around, the warehouse sized room packed to the walls in partying furs all jumping and bouncing to the music. Kitt and Alec stood along one of the bars sipping back a few beers.
"You know I never really liked clubs until I met you, never saw the point." Alec smiled and said into Kitt's ear.
Kitt smiled back and took a long haul from his cigarette, watching the bare chest males. "I know."
"Hey! You're still mated to me remember." Alec playfully jabbed Kitt in the ribs.
"I'm fully aware...but wasn't it you who said it might be cool to have a three-way one time." Kitt grinned
"I was joking...mostly." Alec placed his bottle down and drags Kitt into the middle of the floor starting to dance, grinding against Kitt's open shirted chest.
Dancing the night away, Alec and Kitt eventually returned to their apartment just as the sun broke over the horizon. Both fairly drunk, Kitt thrust Alec against the kitchen wall pulling away his brightly colored shirt while passionately kissing his muzzle.
Alec pushed Kitt away and grinned mischievously kneeling down in front of his well built lover and quickly undoing his belt; slipping his paw into Kitt's pants Alec felt around, grasping the already engorged wolf sheath. With his free paw Alec skillfully dropped Kitt's tight leather pants "Well hon, looked like we'll be having a lot of fun tonight, huh?" Alec grinned.
Kitt pulled away his skin tight muscle shirt and tossed it away, standing now completely naked. "Yeah I hope you're up for it."
Alec simply smiled, his paws running up and down Kitt's thighs. "Come and get me." He said standing up and seductively walking away, his long bushy tail swaying ever so gently over his butt.
Kitt smirked and crossed his arm over his chest watching his chest and slowly counted down from ten before giving chase into the living room finding Alec shirt off and his pants just down under his firm rump, poised away from the kitchen, Alec peered out of the large bay window looking over the twinkling cityscape of the vulpine capitol.
Kitt stalked up behind his glistening white furred mate, nipping and lapping at his neck as his paws roam down along his abs and further to his furred covered sac. The sensations caused Alec to moan ever so gently. Kitt sniffed at Alec's intoxicating scent, letting his tongue glide down the fur on his chest, momentarily stopping and letting his teeth graze over the sensitive nubs of Alec's nipples.
"Oh gods Kitt yeah!" Alec rumbled out rubbing Kitt's shoulders.
Kitt continued his trip along Alec's rippling body, swirling his tongue passed his navel, Kitt's hot lusty breath passing over the exposed ebony colored tip of Alec's erection, then in one graceful pass his tongue grazes over Alec's cock making him shudder and growl.
Kitt watched Alec's large member slide out into the air and quickly moved his muzzle and wet nose to the pair of heavy seed filled orbs hanging between Alec's legs. Alec lifted his muzzle up to the ceiling letting out a deep long moan, feeling Kitt's skilled tongue traveling up and down his sac and thick shaft; Alec placed his paws on Kitt's head gently massaging his ears. Kitt stroked his tongue up and down along each of the nine inches his mate has then slowly drew the tip between his moist lips.
Alec gasped, his hips giving an involuntary jerk, pushing the first few inches into Kitt's willing muzzle. Kitt happily suckled upon the throbbing organ moaning from the taste and pleasure.
He continued bobbing his head back and forth taking Alec's ebony length down to the base again and again until Kitt began to taste the first trickle of the bitter sweet precum squirting along his tongue then slowly pulled away grinning ear to ear at his mate, totally lost in the pleasure. Kitt slowly stood up and padded to the leather couch, leaning over the back of it with his legs splayed apart and his tail held up over his back.
Alec murred and waltzed over kneeling down and rubbing his paws down along Kitt's firm rump and the back of his thighs, reaching a single paw through Kitt's legs wrapping softly around the thick shaft of Kitt as it throbbed and dripped precum down to the floor. Alec leaned forward, sliding his wet tongue up along the crevasse of his rump, rolling skillfully from the back of his straining balls to the pink anal ring; then with a torturously slow pace Alec swiped over Kitt's tail hole, washing his whole body with shuddering waves of delight. "Mmmm Alec yes! I need you inside of me!!" Kitt cried out.
"As you wish my love." Alec responded standing up and hunched over Kitt, wrapping his arm around his mid section as he guided his spurting wolf hood against Kitt awaiting opening. With a soft smooth movement Alec penetrated Kitt, gliding into his tight rear. Kitt responded by pushing back guttural deep growl of immense lust.
Alec slowly built a rhythm of deep movements, nearly completely pulling out before sliding back in to the flaring knot. "Yeah Kitt, mmm I love your tight ass." Alec huffed out as his hips sped up. Kitt panted and groaned loudly as his lover hammered away at his rump and feeling Alec's balls grazing against his own each time he thrust forward.
The intense mating went on for several long moments when Alec's paws gripped Kitt's sides and the baseball sized knot stretching Kitt open. "Oh baby, I'm sp close!! YES!" Alec barked out giving several desperate short jabs, lodging his knot deep within Kitt's body. Both wolves let out window rattling howls as they climaxed. Alec's cock gushing its load against Kitt's prostate. Kitt shook violently feeling his lover fill him as his own member jumped and began spurting and spraying his juices down along the back of the couch....
Chapter 2:
The shuttle approached a rusty colored crab like structure in orbit of the gray desolate moon of the vulpine home world. The construction bay surrounds a huge ship still in construction, a three kilometer long cylindrical mid section makes of the bulk of the ship adorned with four long pylons housing large cannons. The hull a deep gray color constructed of octagonal plating and bristling with gun emplacements.
"Wow, I haven't seen this in months, they really out did themselves here." Kitt said looking out the main view screen of the shuttle.
"No kidding." Alec responded taking in the same view.
Docking with the ship Kitt and Alec are promptly met by the head of construction, a slim built light gray raccoon wearing a set of gold rimmed glasses. "Colonels, good to see you again, what do you think?" he asked quite proudly.
Kitt looked about the docking collar. "Well it's a very nice air lock, I'll give ya that." Kitt joked. "Na, it's a beauty of a ship."
The raccoon smiled, "How about I give you a tour. This away...."
The raccoon ushered Kitt and Alec around. "The technology of the Whiterunner was quite impressive, took our people a while to decipher how you managed to put her together but we've assimilated most of the systems and added some of our own tricks. The hull is a modified version of the Whiterunner's with a liquid cazium core to facilitate the ID drive and covered with a bio-ablative plating which can adapt and reflect energy away from the ship. As well we've outfitted the Blackstar with the latest state of the art particle and plasma weapons. "The raccoon explained leading the two wolves to the circular shaped bridge, laid out with each of the ships control consoles. "And this is your command and control center."
Kitt saw Shar, the Goth silver fox officer whom served under him on the Whiterunner. "Thank you Mr. Arer." Kitt said walking up being Shar as she calls out to the other bridge crew for system status. "Commander..." Kitt said.
Shar turns around not recognizing the voice at first but see Kitt right there and leaps into his arms giggling. "Hey Kitt, welcome to the Blackstar!" she said as they hug and she steps down.
"Thanks, how goes it?" Kitt asked.
"Enh if we could get this blasted targeting and navigation computer to align we'd be near ready to go." The fox responded in a bit of a huff.
"What's wrong with it?" Kitt inquires walking about along the stations seeing how everything worked.
"The systems are interconnected and the problem with that is the conventional navigation computer generates its maps by subspace sonar, when the ID locators go active prior to jump everything goes all screwy." Shar explained.
"Why don't we just keep the ID targeting offline until we have to use it?"
"It isn't as easy as that, it'll take a full ninety seconds to reinitiate the computer both ways and if we get into the thick shit, it could mean our asses."
Kitt nodded. "Still we may not have a choice; I want this up and running by the end of the month."
The raccoon looked to Kitt from across the bridge. "That's only two and a half weeks. We need at least another two months!"
"Look Timothy, we've got an entire planet dying here, we don't have any more time. You have your dead line."
Kitt and Alec lay together in bed covered by a thin sheet, the open screen to the balcony let the sound of the thunder storm and the drops of rain hitting the city.
Alec rolled over hugging to Kitt's side. "Don't you think you might have been a little ambitious with the Blackstar, I mean they've come along way in such a short time but the ship isn't ready."
Kitt rubbed the base of Alec's ear. "Maybe but we're running out of time, eight billion lives are on the line here."
"Eight billion and one love..." Alec whimpered.
"I know...I know..."
"Current projections indicate a force of about two hundred Dominion troops occupying the base. From satellite recon and fly over's, they are heavily dig in and the outpost's defense systems are fully operational." The general spoke to the group of twelve Special Forces soldiers.
"Sir from my team's analysis of the data we have formulated a plan of attack, we can do this." A female wolf stood and reported.
"Good Lieutenant, give your report to the techs and ready your team for deployment."
The twelve furs dispersed but the general calls of the lieutenant over to him. "Have you thought any more of my proposal?" He started.
"Sir, I don't want to leave my team."
"Look Lauren, I know you want to stay close to your home world but this could be your chance. Lead the troops aboard the Blackstar and your career is set. You are already the top operative in the Alliance Intelligence agency; this would just put you right above it. Also there's something else."
The slim, long blonde haired wolf's ears perked. "And what might that be sir?"
"We need someone the inside. This Kitt Alistair is operating outside our own channels, going around us directly to Tarn. With him also infected with the virus his judgment could be clouded, this mission is too important for him to fuck it up." The general explained.
"If I was to agree to such an operation and was forced to take command his people won't take it lightly."
"True, I'm sure you'll figure something out, so what do you think?"
The female wolf thinks to herself for a few moments. "Alright general you have yourself an agent." Lauren said shaking the general's paw.
"Good you'll have to leave immediately, the Blackstar is setting out in ten days.
Lauren saluted the general heading off to pack her things.
"Alright let's see if this thing works. Helm, bring the engines online." Kitt commanded from the center command chair. "Release docking clamps and take us out."
The massive bulk of the Blackstar slowly lunged out from the connectors of the construction bay, the bridge crew cheered as their eight months of non stop work finally finished.
"Good work everyone!" Kitt exclaimed. "Helm set hyperspace beacon Vulpine four, one, six. Let's test out the fire power of this baby."
With in a half hour the four winged ship glides out of hyperspace into a bone yard, thousands of ships which were either too badly damaged or out of date, all the salvageable parts had been stripped away long ago leaving only the empty shells.
"Drek, bring the weapons online and lock targets on that big 'old Forestall carrier out there." Kitt said to his large panther tactical officer.
"Aye, Kitt." He responded placing the targeting reticule over the hull of the elongated light beige blocky ship. "Firing forward plasma cannons."
The four large barrels at the tip of the Blackstar's mid-section begin to glow before the release a stream of red pulses all of them striking the carrier gouging car shaped holes in the hull.
"Charging particle array and firing," Drek said; the very tips of the four pylons cast out thick yellow streams of charged energy which slices the carrier into pieces before it burst into a ball of fire.
"Very nice, helm move us into the field, Drek, target and destroy as many ships as the computer can handle" Kitt ordered.
Drek typed the commanded into the computer and as the Blackstar coasted into the middle of the hundreds of abandoned ships it lets loose a blinding furry of plasma bursts, thick yellow particle beams, smaller white solid steel bullets and screaming blue missiles all around, laying waste to twenty or so ships in a mere few seconds.
"Well Colonel, what do you think?" The raccoon construction manager asked.
"It's good, the targeting isn't as accurate as I'd like but that can be ironed out on the road." Kitt responded. "When is the full crew supposed to be arriving?"
"Within a day is when we begin orienting the full staff." The raccoon answered.
"Good, helm, take is back to dry dock."
Kitt stood in front of the two thousand furs that make up the Blackstar's crew and Alec as his side. "Welcome, I'd like to say this mission is about exploration and the betterment of our way of life, but it's not. We're going out beyond our universe because there are eight billion lives riding on the hope we can do the impossible. I've read over a lot of your personnel files and from what I know, you will all do your best; we have a good ship and a good crew, all that's left is to get the job done." Kitt finished his speech getting a round of applause from the crew. "Report to your division heads for orientation, dismissed."
Dispersing to where they have to go the crew quickly vacated the stadium sized briefing room on the vulpine home world. Kitt was about to turn away when he saw one of them stepping up, a female wolf approaches, slim yet you can tell she's very athletic, with golden blonde hair neatly tied back and wearing the black and gold trimmed uniform of the Alliance military. "Colonel Alistair." She said giving a salute and standing at full attention. "I am Captain Lauren Floranis; I was assigned to be your strike force team leader."
Kitt returned the salute. "Happy to make your acquaintance and congratulations on your promotion; this is my second in command, Alec Drominaz."
Lauren nodded to Alec. "Yes, actually, we're third cousins, our families are linked. Look forward to working with you both; Colonels."
Kitt smiled" Good, since you're on the senior staff you can pretty much drop the ranks; we're pretty casual with the command staff."
Lauren nodded again. "I'll keep that in mind sir."
"All system's report in" Kitt commanded swiveling around his command chair to the forward station. In perfect succession all the different stations sound off their status.
"Alright let's get this party started, helm inform Alliance fleet command we're ready to deploy and prepare to initiate the ID drive."
"Aye Colonel" The helmsman tapped his claws over the plastic panel, causing the Blackstar to start to hum and then shift forward, but suddenly not more that a minute later the entire ship shuddered as a three deck section of the hull bent outwards and exploded from the inside.
"Engineering status!" Alec barked out, steadying himself against one of the bulkheads.
"Sir, Deck's four, five and six are breeched, and commencing lock down procedures and the decks are being evacuated" the skunk officer reported.
Chapter 3
"What the fuck happened Kitt?" Tarn angrily asked from behind the presidential desk in the capitol.
"I don't know yet, the investigation team is still compiling their report, but it doesn't look like an accident." Kitt explained.
"We're already a month behind in this excursion Kitt and the Alliance is getting impatient. I need answers, and I need them soon." Tarn told Kitt.
"As soon as I know Alpha, you will know. Am I dismissed?" Kitt snapped back.
"Yes Colonel...."
"What's the deal with Tarn lately?" Alec asked as he and Kitt made their way back to the Blackstar's dry dock.
"I don't know, I know he's taking a lot of flak from the other governments about how much this project is costing, but there's something else that he's not letting us in on." Kitt responded.
"So Lauren, your analysis" Kitt asked the female wolf as she looked through the gapping hole in the side of the ship; the only thing keeping them from being sucked out into space was a thin blue translucent force field.
"Judging by the force of the blast and the way the metal is fragmented, I'd say a bio-plastic explosive, probably BT-509, and it would be the sort of thing to use close to the hull and considering its organic based it wouldn't be easily detected." Lauren explained.
"Okay, I'm putting you in charge of the investigation. Find out who did this and why, understood?" Kitt ordered.
"Yes Colonel, it shouldn't take long, BT-509 is rare and highly restricted." Lauren quickly responded back.
"Good, I'll leave you to it."
Kitt walked out onto the bridge where Alec stood next to Shar examining the video recording of the explosion." Hey, how are we looking?"
Alec sighed and rubbed his neck. "Ah not so good, the damage will take at least two to three weeks to repair."
Kitt nodded and looked at the screen, seeing the ball of fire rip through the side of his ship. "I've got Captain Floranis on the case so hopefully it won't take long for her to sniff out the people who did this.
Alec sat down in one of the station chairs. "Good, any thoughts about whom?"
Kitt shrugged slightly. "Could be remnants of the Dominion and god knows how there's enough people out there that feel we shouldn't be doing this in the first place."
"True..." Alec admitted. "We shouldn't rule out the fact that the saboteur may still be aboard."
"Agreed..." Kitt answered.
"Run a search on BT-509 suppliers and shipments the vulpine consortium." Lauren commanded her computer in her quarters aboard the Blackstar.
The computer cycled for a moment, Lauren's amber eyes searching through her gold trimmed glasses at the list of companies and order codes. "Refine search, correlate shipments to civilian buyers with passage within ten light years of the vulpine capitol." Lauren grinned as she got two matches then sharply stood up taking her glasses off and grabbing her black leather bomber jacket and side arms as she leaves her room.
Traveling by shuttle the female captain came upon a dirty dank portion of one of the major vulpine cities, already in the middle of the night, Lauren walked down one of the streets, garbage and homeless furs abound. She approached a set of apartment buildings, the main doors caged over for protection.
Lauren made her way up the creaky elevator to the twentieth floor and stalks up along the wall to one of the doors and knocked.
"Hello?" A raspy voice called from the inside of the room.
"I've heard you might be the person to talk to if I needed to have certain items shipped on planet." Lauren said keeping to the side of the door.
"I don't know what you are talking about." The voice said non to truthfully.
"Lauren reached into her pocket and slipped a couple hundred credits through the mail slot "How about now?"
The sound of about five locks click open as the door slid in, Lauren side stepped a bit only to have the barrel of a mean looking shotgun placed at her chest. "Are you a cop?" A stumpy and slightly obese looking fox dressed in a stained tank top and jeans hissed.
Lauren smiled putting her paws up slowly "C'mon if I were a cop and knowing what you do, I'd have brought a swat team."
The fox lowered his weapon slightly, giving Lauren the opening she was waiting for, grabbing the barrel of the gun and twisting it around with lightning accuracy, simultaneously placing her combat boot into the pudgy fox's gut, dropping him to the floor gasping for air.
Lauren stepped into the apartment, shutting the door behind her. "I'm not a cop, Alliance Intelligence service, so just answer my questions and I won't splatter your brains all over your floor, now BT-509, who's buying?"
"I don't know what you're talking about." The fox said clutching his stomach and trying to get back to his feet.
The highly skilled wolf swept his arms out from under him taking him back to the floor and grinding the tip of the shotgun into his spine. "Oh I think you do, you see the regular police might think you're a fat harmless data courier with minimal illegal activity but since you're not that that bright I could track your little back alley deals, talk!" She growled and stepped down on the back of his neck.
"Alright, Alright! I got four pounds of the stuff past security." The fox yelped.
"That's a start, who?"
"I don't know who he was, he paid in cash, and I only saw him once." He said.
"Good that means you can come with me down to the police station and look through the data base." Lauren said hefting the fox up and pushing him against the door.
"No I can't! If I'm seen helping you I'll be killed." The fox whimpered.
"Quick give me a name!" Lauren yelled out.
"Uren...Uren something, I can't remember but I have a picture from my door surveillance camera."
"Show me." Lauren harshly said wrenching the fox backwards and tossing him into the living room.
The rod fox stumbled and tried to regain his composure. "You know, you're infringing on my rights to privacy and not to mention assault and battery."
Lauren held the fox's shotgun, leaning on the back of the tacky green suede couch. "You're lucky I don't just make your ass disappear so shut up and get me the picture." She snarled cocking the shotgun.
The fox tapped a few keys on his keyboard and prints out the photo, handing it to Lauren. "Good boy, thanks and if I my make a suggestion..." Lauren said placing the picture in her jacket pocket. "Find a new line of work; you just suck at this one."
Lauren walked out of the apartment dumping the fox's shotgun in the trash bin and takes the picture in her paw, seeing a dark brown furred cougar, a male, wearing dark black sunglasses. She took out her cell hone and dialed. "Access code, four beta nine two zeta. Requiring photo database search, sending picture." Lauren passed the scanner on her phone over the picture then put the phone back to her ear.
"This is a picture of a mercenary going by the name of Darkwind, real name Uren Laz, current affiliation with the Shwan Kai an assassin group last confirmed contact 07/21/17 heading into Dominion space." The computer voice told her.
"Perfect..." Lauren sighed. "Copy and paste the report to my email addy." She hung up.
The next morning Lauren stepped into a near pitch black room aboard the Blackstar, suddenly the light blasts on with Kitt in the center of the room holding two large barreled pistols twisting his nimble body on the spot as several black figures came at him.
Lauren watched as Kitt smoothly annihilates each of them, ending in exactly the same position he'd started." Impressive Colonel, don't think I've seen anyone use the Hung-gar firearm patterns that well."
Kitt smiled and shrugged clicking the safeties on his guns "I'm still rusty at it. Alec is much better."
Lauren stepped up to Kitt. "I see, well the reason I came is I think I found out who's responsible or at least the middle man for the attack. He's a member of the Shwan Kai, you've heard of them right..."
Kitt nodded.
"I tracked them to one of the trance clubs here..."
"Great job...by the way...do you dance?" Kitt said with a grin.
Kitt and Lauren walked through the huge arch way lit up with several moving neon light bands, the main floor packed with the standard fare of scantily clad furs, gyrating to the music.
Kitt waltzed right up to the bar and ordered a beer. "So you got him yet?"
Lauren looked about nonchalantly, eventually seeing the cougar looking over the floor from a glassed in private room elevated off the floor. "Yup, upper floor, private box."
Kitt looked over and nodded. "It's your show, how do you wanna play this?"
"Cover my ass, I'll be back." Lauren said walking away and stepping up along the steel plated staircase, adjusting her tube top and black jeans so they sat lower on her hips. She steps right up to the door being stopped by one of the club bouncers.
"Can I help you?" the mass of grizzly bear muscle said crossing his arms blocking the path inside.
"No, you can't, the owner sent me up here for Darkwind." Lauren responded pulling her shoulders back accentuating her ample breasts.
"Really, I don't recall Dan sending anyone?" The bear said trying to trap her.
"The owner's name is Merlin!" Lauren heard Kitt's voice echo in the back of her head.
Forcing herself not to look to find out where Kitt was, she just smiled. "Dan? The owner's name is Merlin, are you sure you're supposed to be here?" Lauren said with a coy grin.
The grizzly grinned back stepping to the side and letting the sexy wolf pass "Just checking."
Lauren strutted into the private box, seeing a group of about eight stylishly dressed furs sitting around drinking, doing every drug imaginable and frolicking with various prostitutes.
The cougar, Darkwind looked up with a smirk. "Just couldn't resist me eh? I saw you eyeing me from the floor."
Lauren returned the smirk. "I've seen you around don't get very many good looking cats like you around here. Had to come up and meet you." She said looking over the broadly built furred feline in a black suit with a red shimmering shirt she also takes notice of the two gold plated pistols lying on the glass table in front of him.
"Care for a drink?" he asked handing Lauren a cup of some brown booze.
Lauren took the glass and slammed it back, which it was quite strong and bitter but she downed it without so much as a flinch then moves over straddling the cougar's lap.
Kitt leaned against the bar talking with a very attractive collie male fur when he just stopped and looked at the entrance archway, seeing a leather clad coyote padding in with three others, heading right to the stairs leading to the private box. "Shit!" Kitt growled "Sorry I gotta go."
The Collie frowned as Kitt left but not before he slipped Kitt his phone number and kissed him deeply on the muzzle. Kitt gasped and smiled at the collie before tearing off through the crowd to the opposing stairway.
Lauren played quite well the role of a hoar, making out with Darkwind when the coyote and his entourage entered the room. "What are you doing Uren?" The coyote said coldly.
Darkwind tossed Lauren off of him and stood up. "What do you mean?"
"You should be lying low...guess that doesn't matter now since your little bitch here is AIS." The coyote said looking directly at Lauren whom, instantly dropped down to one knee and drew a small pistol hidden in her boot.
"Everyone paws in the air!" Lauren barked out.
The coyote smirked and lifted his paw then dashed, too quick for Lauren to react to he knocked her weapon away and shoved her right to the floor. He stepped over her body and pointed his own pistol at her face. "Where is your backup?"
Lauren clutched her chest lying against the velvet carpeted floor when she saw Kitt open the door, holding the grizzly bear bouncer by the collar of his red shirt. All at once every fur in the room drew some manor of firearm pointing them at Kitt. "Hey guys, seems your body guard had a little too much to drink."
The coyote looked back at Kitt. "Kill him!" he growled.
A barrage of bullets launch themselves at the long black trench coat wearing wolf, he saw each one of them as if they moved in slow motion and twisted his body in between each of them without taking a step; to the others though it seemed as if Kitt hadn't even moved the bullets just passed right through him blowing out the glass door and wall behind him.
The group all look to each at other in amazement that nothing had hit him. Kitt simply grinned looking down his nose bridge over his chrome rimmed sunglasses, then flexed his forearms, releasing the catch on his two large caliber hand pistols connected to his wrist. With the same precision as in the room on the Blackstar, Kitt laid waste to the group, leaving only Lauren, Darkwind and the coyote alive.
"I thought you looked familiar, Kitt Alistair!" The coyote said still holding his gun steadily at Lauren.
"And you're a beta super solider." Kitt replied back. "Drop your weapon!"
"No I don't think I'll be doing that..." The coyote said.
Lauren took this split second of distraction and rolled to the side, kicking the gun out if the coyote's paw and Kitt reacting even faster, hitting the stunned super solider with an invisible energy blast that sent him hurtling through the glass wall and out on to the crowded dance floor. Kitt followed him right through the hole, flipping out and landing on his feet the black trench coat flowing down around him.
Darkwind didn't waste a moment tearing off through the broken door frame with Lauren in hot pursuit.
The crowds of furs circle around Kitt and the coyote, with the lights and deafening trance music pounding around them. Kitt raised a single paw to his opponent gesturing him on. The coyote sneered and dashed up throwing his fists out, each one being batted away by Kitt whom picked out an opening and forced his open palm across his chest flinging him backwards. The coyote flipped to his feet and grabbed Kitt's jacket and tossed him into the air Kitt reacted quickly grabbing a steel support pole, swinging around it and slammed full force across the coyote's muzzle and flung him into the crowd.
Lauren leapt down the stairs, clubbing Darkwind across the back, tripping him into one of the person sized speakers. He turned whipping out a pistol only to have it kicked away by Lauren, whom followed up by spin kicking the cougar on the side of the head knocking him unconscious instantly.
Kitt twisted the coyote's body into the air, crashing a boot into his ribs before he could hit the floor his spine being crushed as he smashed into a steel beam and limply crumpled to the black marble dance floor.
Leaning over the corpse of the coyote Kitt quickly found Lauren hefting Darkwind over her shoulder. "Let's go!" she said.
Chapter 4:
"Who are you working for!?" Lauren growled out to the handcuffed cougar over a table.
"I'm sorry but it seems when you kicked me I lost my memory." Darkwind replied smugly.
"Yeah maybe if I hit you again it may jog your memory." Lauren said stepping around the steel table behind the cougar.
"I'm not telling you shit. I want my lawyer."
"I don't think you're in a position to demand anything. Technically you don't even exist so I could beat the living shit out of you and no one would care." She barked smacking the cougar across the back of the head then pulling it back by his fur. "Who are you working for?!"
"Fuck you!" he hissed.
Lauren slammed his muzzle down across the stainless steal table top and stormed out of the room to where Kitt and Alec watched through the monitors.
"A little rough captain don't you think?" Alec asked.
"He's a mercenary and a damn good one, it has to be rough." Lauren huffed.
"He's been trained in anti-telepath techniques; I'm not good enough with telepathy to ready him without killing him." Kitt said looking at Darkwind as he sat confidently.
"Maybe we're going about this all wrong." Alec started. "When we complete a job, what's the first thing you do?"
Lauren smiled "We lie low and contact our handlers for Evac."
"Exactly, let's erase his memory then dump him he'll head back to the source." Alec said.
"Alright...let's do it, I'll contact the telepath." Kitt said.
Lauren followed Darkwind along the street as he stumbled around in what he believes to be an alcohol induced hangover he headed right to a high class hotel in the downtown core of Vulcape. The slender female wolf walked right up to the front desk, watching the cougar get into the elevator. "Can I help you miss?" The fox receptionist asked.
"Yeah, I'm trying to reach a friend he told me he was staying here." Lauren politely said.
"Alright what is his name?"
"Anthony." She responded. "He's a cougar about six one, brown fur..."
"Ah Mr. Corsten one moment..." The receptionist typed the name into the computer. "He's in suite 2915. Would you like me to call up for you?"
"No, no I want this to be a surprise. Thank you." Lauren smiled and walked away, opening up her phone. "Colonel, he's at the Constellation hotel, suite 2915, need a phone tap."
"Good, hold tight there, we'll call you back when we get something." Kitt said.
Lauren sat in the lobby, sipping at her coffee when she saw Darkwind emerge from the elevator and she instantly picked up her phone. "Colonel, Darkwind is on the move."
"We know, we intercepted a call; he's heading to the capitol avenue maglev station, don't loose him" Kitt ordered.
"Confirmed, I won't." Lauren replied quickly chasing after the cougar.
Lauren followed Darkwind into the terminal, leaning nonchalantly against one of the concrete pillars, watching the dark brown fur wait for the train car. Spotting another big cat step up behind Darkwind and seeing him whisper something into his ear. Then they both boarded the floating subway looking car. Lauren followed them in sitting several seats back in the packed space she slipped in the ear piece from her phone. "Kitt, we're on the parliament line, there's another cougar sitting with the contact." Lauren whispered.
"Hang with them, local police have been notified and are standing by for assistance." Kitt told her.
The train circled the same route two or three times without Darkwind or the other one moving. "Colonel, they're waiting for something, I might have been made."
"Acknowledged, exit at the next stop we'll track the train from here and advise security to keep their eyes peeled."
Lauren lifted herself from the chair and when the train pulled up to the next station, she left then turned watching the train coast away. Lauren quickly rushed out of the station and gets into a waiting unmarked police cruiser.
Within five minutes of driving after the train, Kitt came on the com channel. "Lauren, the trains stopped in the middle of the west wind tunnel, get there double time. Vulcape PD is on route."
The cruiser pulled up to the opening of the underground tunnel, Lauren and the officer stepped inside carefully against the wall seeing the stopped train. The car still filled with the mid-day load of passengers, Lauren lifted herself up onto the back of the car, drawing her weapon. Peering inside she failed to see the cougar pair then like cracks of thunder, several high velocity bullets pierced the glass windows and into the concrete walls. Lauren dropped down to her knees below the window. The officer that was backing her up came running along the track instantly catching two bullets square in the chest.
"Colonel I'm taking fire, officer down, I need back up!" Lauren yelled out.
"Confirmed Lauren, keep them pinned down, Vulcape PD five minutes out."
"Heard!" Lauren stood up and dove through the broken window taking several pot shots as she rolled to her feet. "Everyone keeps your heads down!!" She shouted spotting the two cougars in a doorway.
Lauren shot out another window and dove back out of the train car onto a service walkway into an alcove she quickly drew her second pistol and snapped off several shots into the steel door covering the cougars. "Vulcape PD. this is Captain Floranis, Blackstar taskforce. Make your approach from the north access route. I need these guys alive!" Lauren barked out into here radio.
"Confirmed Captain, ETA two minutes"
Lauren swept down on her back sliding into view of the cougars, showering them in bullets and sending them scrambling up the steel stairway.
Bracing against the side of the doorway Lauren quickly reloaded her pistols then pivoted around the corner seeing the police already shoving the pair down to the ground and taking them into custody. Lauren quickly vanished down the tunnel. "Colonel, Vulcape PD have made the arrest...everything is going according to schedule."
"Good Captain. Come on back to base."
"Are they out yet?" Lauren said walking out onto the bridge of the Blackstar.
"Negative, we're still waiting for bail to be posted." Alec said.
"I don't know if this'll work, they already got me and they're not stupid." Lauren said to Alec.
"True, but hopefully they don't know who you are. You could just be some cop."
"Hopefully sir..."
Lauren sat cross legged in one of the observation lounges aboard the Blackstar as the moon rotates around the greenish blue sphere of the vulpine home world. She simply stared out into the stars, contemplating what she'd gotten herself into. She heard the soft whoosh of the door open then the soft padding of foot steps approaching her but Lauren never turned.
"Am I disturbing you?" Kitt quietly asked.
"No Colonel, join me if you wish." Lauren responded not moving.
Kitt sat next to her looking out into the same space. "What's on your mind?"
"Hmmm" Lauren started distantly. "Just wondering if this operation is worth it...."
"How so?"
"We haven't the faintest idea where the virus came from and we're setting out into other universes in the hope we may get lucky. If would seem to me we should put our resources into curing it ourselves." Lauren blurted out.
Kitt looked down at the floor and sighed.
"Oh Colonel, I wasn't thinking, I'm sorry I was out of place. I realize your life is on the line as well."
Kitt stood up and nodded. "This may not be such a wild goose chase after all. Follow me..."
Kitt led Lauren into the depths of the Blackstar and into one of the high security areas.
"What is this? I've never seen so much security." Lauren exclaimed.
"You think it took nine trillion credits to just build this ship?" Kitt responded placing his paw against a seemingly normal piece of the steel wall, but when he generated a very faint golden ki blast the swirling steel place of the door start to open. "This is a project our government has been developing ever since I fought the Alpha four years ago. It is a state of the art sensor system that can track a person by pinpointing their ki frequency. "Kitt explained leading Lauren into a room dimly lit with a large holographic display table and two science officers sitting on either side whom stood up sharply saluting the two wolves.
"At ease gentlemen; so far we've only been able to trace Caster's energy patterns to general dimensions but it's enough to give us co-ordinates." Kitt explained.
"Why wasn't I informed of this sooner Colonel?" Lauren questioned.
"Because, simply this is our only advantage and I didn't know you, I couldn't allow this to get out. The system has already proven effective in tracking the beta and alpha series super soldiers."
"Interesting Colonel ...well why aren't we using it to track Darkwind? We know he's being supported by super soldiers."
"It's not quite that easy, we need a sample of the person frequency to lock onto and since we have yet to know who is behind this we can't." Kitt sighed.
"Kitt, we've just monitored a bail post for your friends, report to the bridge." Alec's voice said over the intercom.
Lauren and Kitt rush out onto the bridge. "Let's hear it!" Kitt said.
"The bail money was posted by a member of the Harold arms group, which has been under investigation for funding the Shwan Kai and supplying weapons to the Dominion." Alec explained.
"Then let's go get them." Lauren snapped.
"We will but we need to confirm that they are responsible and we still have to find out who actually planted the bomb." Kitt said. "Alec, can we access the Harold group financial computers, lets see who's made any large transactions."
Alec typed along the keyboard, pulling up a screen filled with bank numbers and amounts. "Hmm, everything seems in order, except this one, ten million credits was diverted to a Lupine account but then with drawled back into the company a day later."
"What does that mean?" Lauren asked.
"Well what's funny about it is that it's an extremely high interest account, twenty percent just for opening the account. The interest amount wasn't taken out, two million credits was left." Alec said.
"That's a pretty good cover no money is actually lost by the company it could just seem like a simple clerical error." Kitt said. "Who pulled out the money?"
"Unknown, the Lupine bank system is in shambles what with the quarantine...but we can track the money it'll just take some time." Alec said.
"Alright, let us know in instant you get anything." Kitt answers. "Lauren, let's go check out this Harold arms.
Kitt sat next to Lauren on the space liner as it coasts through the red and black swirling storm of hyperspace, neither saying much to each other.
"So why didn't you follow through with the Hun-gar trials? You obviously have the skills for it" Kitt asked trying to break the awkward silence.
Lauren looked up from the news screen she was reading. "I was going to but I didn't want to be limited. I wanted to travel, that's why the AIS was so inviting."
Kitt nodded. "I see."
"How about you why did you agree...?"
"Was an opportunity, I was raised in the military. My mother and father were killed by a rouge Hung-gar named Bryn when I was like a year old. I was approached by my teacher Gall when I was fourteen and at the time it just felt the thing to do but it also got me in the position to gain revenge on Bryn and I never would have met Alec." Kitt explained.
"Colonel, may I ask a question?" Lauren spoke softly.
"Of course..."
"Do you think we can make it back in time?" she asked.
"You mean, find Caster beat the shit out of him, get the cure and get back to our home to save the eight billion lives?"
"Yeah..."
"Good question and honestly I don't know, but there's no chance of decoding the virus here, even though some people don't agree." Kitt said.
Lauren simply nodded.
Once on the planet, Kitt and Lauren pulled up in their rental sedan to a tall silver tinted high rise building labeled with the Harold Arms group logos. Walking right up to the reception desk Kitt saw a slim female chipmunk typing away at the computer. "Hello, welcome to Harold Arms, how may I help you?" she asked.
"Hi, my name is Marcus Cloudrunner..." Kitt started handing the chipmunk a business card with his fake ID on it. "...I am interested in purchasing weapons for my company. Who would I speak to about that?"
"No problem sir, just one moment. Please have a seat."
Kitt and Lauren again sat, nearly a half hour passed by before a lanky green suited raccoon came to greet them. "Sorry for the wait. Follow me to my office and we'll see what we can do for you today." The coon said directly to Kitt.
"Now you were interested in buying weapons for your business, may I ask what type of business it is?" He asked Kitt from across his desk.
"Does it matter?" Kitt said slyly.
"Well Mr. Cloudrunner, normally it is required by law that your company to be logged."
"Yes...however I was told that your company could help me out if I wanted to keep this quiet." Kitt said looking to Lauren whom slid a yellow envelope across the table.
The raccoon looked down at the envelope then back up at Kitt and then slowly opened it. "I believe you were mistaken sir." He said but doesn't slide the envelope back. Kitt looked to Lauren again as she slid a second package. "Everything seems in order now, what can we get for you?"
Kitt crossed his leg over his other one. "I need fifty M-1602 7.62mm assault rifles, forty peacemaker .45 caliber handguns, thirteen M64 light machine guns and two Harold 20mm gattling cannons."
"Alright Mr. Cloudrunner, we can piece that order together in about three hours, cash I'd assume?"
"Yes thank you, may I test the products first?" Kitt inquired.
"Of course sir...this way" The coon said leading Kitt down a hallway while Lauren slipped away.
Sneaking through the hallways Lauren approached the records office she quickly picked the lock to the door and moved inside and to one of the computers. Without much difficulty Lauren hacked her way into the system and accessed the company payroll, tracking the ten million credits when the door creeks open. Lauren rushed to print out the information when she heard a gun being cocked behind her head." What are you doing in here?" a male deep voice said.
Lauren raised her paws. "Just testing your response time and quite frankly you're a little slow.
"And who are you?" he asked as the female wolf turned.
"I am a representative for your security company, sent here to evaluate our personnel."
"Oh really, lets see some credentials, do it slow." The lion security guard commanded.
Lauren reached into her suit pocket and pulled out her wallet handing it to the lion then taking advantage of his broken attention she snapped the pistol from his palm and belted him on the side of the head with her fist taking him out and then returned to finish her work.
"Did you get it?" Kitt asked as they hustled out of the building.
"Yeah they shouldn't find a trail, no problem."
"Good work..."
The three hours passed with the pair of wolves sitting silently in a black SUV parked in a deserted construction lot around one of the buildings still under repairs from the war. "They're late...you think they got smart?" Lauren asked.
"Not likely, they'll have to find out why we're interested in their bank records either that or they'll just try and kill us." Kitt joked.
A couple more minutes passed when a large truck pulled up across from them. "Alright let's do this. Looked like they have seven guys in the truck plus the driver" Kitt said.
"How can you tell?"
"I can feel them. Keep your eyes peeled." Kitt said clicking the safety off of his pistols and sliding them back into his shoulder holsters.
Kitt and Lauren stepped out of the SUV and began walking towards the truck being met by the raccoon from the office. "You've got the money?" he asked.
Kitt tapped his paw against a silver brief case "Yep."
"Good, one question though...how dumb do you think we are, to think Kitt Alistair wouldn't be recognized and your little bitch friend could hack our computers without us knowing?" The coon said as the six heavily armed furs burst out of the back of the truck and quickly surrounded Kitt and Lauren.
"We were counting on it actually. I'm going to ask you just once before we arrest your ass, who planet the bomb on the Blackstar?" Kitt asked confidently.
The coon burst out laughing. "Ha, it really doesn't matter since your precious Blackstar, we'll be dealing with it in a couple days."
"I'll see about that." Kitt growled and looked to Lauren. "As we speak the Alliance strike forces are taking down your offices."
The raccoon hissed and drew a weapon sending Lauren into a quick spin, her gray trench coat flailing open revealing two mean looking submachine guns, unleashing a loud crackling the female wolf systematically killed each of the armed mercenaries. Kitt stared the coon down not even budging one inch. Lauren finished resting down on one knee the barrels of her guns smoking. "Still feeling lucky?" Kitt smirked.
"Yeah, actually I do..." The raccoon said diving behind the truck as a red energy ball impacted down on Kitt and Lauren.
The ball detonated in a puff of fire and smoke, slowly clearing to show Kitt and Lauren completely unmarked. Kitt looked up along the exposed girders of the building. "Lauren, make sure that prick doesn't get away."
Kitt launched himself up on the bare steel girders of the building four stories up. "Show yourself." he called out.
Balancing on one of the beams stepped a short silver and brown furred jackal dressed in a black suit. "You'll never get to Caster."
Kitt stepped onto the same beam. "I wouldn't be so sure."
The jackal lunged at Kitt, flinging he leg out at him. Kitt ducked and pivoted along the foot wide beam, expertly exchanging attacks with his super soldier opponent.
Lauren chased the raccoon in between the stacks unused steel plating and wood. "Listen here, your picture has been posted to every police and military outpost from here to the rim, give up and we'll go easy on you." She howled out.
"Bullshit, the Alliance never goes easy on anyone!" The coon yelled back snapping several shots at Lauren, the bullets sparking off the steel.
"I tried..." Lauren sprinted out in front of the raccoon, close lining him right across the throat and toppling him over the into the dust.
Kitt was knocked over the beam, using his quick reflexes he grasped the edge of the beam and swung his legs and body around the opposite side clubbing the jackal across the back, sending him through a partially constructed concrete wall.
Kitt flew in through the hole and sets down on the flooring seeing the jackal had disappeared. "You know you can't win. You don't have the power to over take me."
"Doesn't mean I can't stall you" The jackal's voice echoed through the building.
"Stall me for what?" Kitt replied pacing around in his fighting stance.
"Well there's a special little surprise being delivered to your precious Blackstar." The jackal snarled as he leapt down at Kitt swinging a long steel bar at Kitt's head.
Kitt reacted catching the bar in his paw, growling fiercely his energy flared outwards. "Fuck you!" Kitt barked launching out at the jackal thrusting his fist across his jaw and snapping his neck instantly.
Kitt floated down next to Lauren as she thrust the raccoon against the side of their SUV. "We have to get to the Blackstar now!!" Kitt said urgently.
"Why?" Lauren asked, slapping handcuffs on the coon.
"There's another bomb begin put aboard." Kitt responded opening up his phone to call Alec.
Alec sat in the captain's cabin, thumbing through crew reports when his cell phone went off. "Y'ello?" He said into it.
"Alec, has any cargo been delivered in the last six hours?" Kitt blurted out.
"Yeah we just received the backup phase coils for the particle cannons...Why?"
"There's a bomb hidden in there, find it quick!"
Alec quickly hung up his phone and rushed out of his quarters. "Shar!" he yelled out into the intercom. "Has the delivery crew finished storing the phase coils yet?"
"Yeah I was just about to give them flight clearance." The silver fox responded from the bridge.
"Hold that shuttle and dispatch a security team, arrest everyone on it. I'll be in the cargo bay." Alec commanded, running down the corridor.
Alec soon came up to the huge bay doors, two Alliance security officers. "Privates, evacuate this deck immediately." He ordered and walked into the stadium sized room littered with crates and barrels of various munitions. "Shar scan cargo bay four, for foreign explosives."
"Negative Alec, can't get a lock on any ...wait, box five seventeen, it doesn't look like an explosive, rather a life form" Shar reported.
"Shit, it's a bio-explosive...adjust internal force fields around this bay." Alec said approaching the box sensing the bomb inside.
"But Alec, you're inside, I do and you'll be trapped." Shar exclaimed.
"I know I'm going to try and defuse it. I'll be okay." Alec said opening the crate seeing two large glass containers filled with a neon blue gel and a computer screen in front. "Fuck me. Shar there's enough of this shit here to destroy a city. Get ready to open the cargo bay doors I won't be able to disarm it in time."
Alec carefully stretched out with his ki, telekinetically moving the crate and moving it towards the outer doors. "Computer, disengage safety locks on bay four space doors."
"Request denied, life form detected, safeties locks cannot be released." The computer replied.
"Command authorization Alec Drominaz blue, four, five niner unlock safeties." Alec growled out.
"Authorization confirmed doors opening." The computer finally said as Alec was bracing himself against the floor as the big blast doors began to slide open. Alec projected a blue toned barrier around his body as the vacuum of space tore at the cargo bay. The box containing the bomb along with several others are violently sucked out into the void, Alec puts both his paws forward, his muscles stressed trying not to join the boxes and with a grunt Alec forced a dense stream of energy at the bomb, a split second later a brilliant white light flashed, followed by a shockwave that rocked the entire ship. "Computer" Alec growled loudly. "Close cargo bay four doors now!!"
Quickly the steel blast doors slammed shut and the bay filled back up with air. Panting and huffing Alec lowers his barrier "Shar, damage report."
"Negative damage, no injuries or casualties" She responded over the intercom.
Chapter 5
Like a phoenix soaring through the heavens, the Blackstar made it maiden flight over the capitol of the Alliance. All the ambassadors and delegates clap and cheer for the single best chance for the Lupine home world.
Tarn, not present with the others stood next to Kitt in the presidential office, each a glass of alcohol to the shimmering bulk of the Blackstar. "We'd better be right about this..." Tarn sighed sipping at his glass.
Kitt simply nodded throwing the entire contents of his glass. "Three years, three months and twenty days, we'll make it."
"Hope so..."
Back aboard the Blackstar, Kitt marched confidently out onto the bridge assuming his position in the command chair. "Alright ladies and gentlemen...we're cleared for departure. I am reminded of an old Lupine saying I was once told; May the stars protect you thru all the dark places you must walk."
Alec patted Kitt softly on the shoulder and smiled. "Helm, bring the ID drive online and co-ordinates for the first energy spike and engage."
The Blackstar flew out of orbit of the beige and green planet into the black void of space, the hull sparked and was covered a pattern of lightning white streaks of energy as it was quickly enveloped into the white disc of the inter-dimensional portal.
