Chapter 8: Broadcast

The sympathisers must take a final stand, or the world will burn from a greater threat.

R’kan wrenched his eyes open as his hand frantically patted the bed next to him.

“Daniel?!” he cried out.

“Whoa, easy bud. I’m right here.” R’kan turned his head, and saw Daniel’s smiling form waving at him, back against the wall and laptop perched precariously on his thighs. “Just thought I’d get the flight recorder data downloaded onto my laptop. Lieutenant Dover had it decoded yesterday.” R’kan nodded, letting out a whoosh of relieved breath. “She also uncovered a lot of new info last night. Apparently, she has the entire outpost on her side as well.”

“That’s great but, you know, it would just be nice to wake up with you in my arms. You know, cuddle a bit, maybe get down and dirty, talk to each other. It would be a nice way to start the day.”

“There will be plenty of time for that once the war is over. Right now, every second we waste, dozens die. We just need to –” Daniel stopped midsentence, placed two fingers on one of his headphone’s speakers and listened intently. “That’s new. Uh… lemme just check this out…” Daniel’s face shifted, looking equal parts confused and terrified. “R-R’kan… is this what a Wulvan ship looks like?” Daniel spun his laptop around so R’kan could see the image. The sleek war machine shown was indeed a Wulvan battleship.

R’kan nodded, a sinking feeling forming in his stomach. “Oh god no…” Daniel muttered. “The UNDF sent some Lahzid-based tech out to alert us of approaching ships. This was caught this morning. We probably have days before they arrive. We have to act fast.”

“What do you propose?”

~~~~~~~~~~()~~~~~~~~~~
The wind whistled dully, rustling hair and clothing as the two parties approached each other on the hill. Two miniature armies faced one another uneasily. Lieutenant Dover took the first step forward, her every pace matched by Iotan. The two figures stopped a metre short of each other, met in the middle, then shook hands. Immediately, every figure bustled into motion, exchanging equipment, giving curt nods to each other, firing off short orders or snippets of information. Guns were handed out freely and heavy machinery was lugged around by the strongest. A Lahzid set down a folding table between the two fearless leaders, soon to be joined by R’kan and Daniel.
“Here is the broadcasting station,” Dover started, jabbing a finger at the map of the city one of her men had set down atop the table. “Around here, there are some tight quarters and blind spots. We can probably barricade up this alleyway here, post snipers on these adjacent rooftops here, here, here, here and here. We’ll have to have three teams on the rooftop with the antennae; one sniper team, one combat squad, and an engineering squad to set up the equipment. We’ll be on this floor here, and the rest of the teams will have to fortify the lobby and provide fire from within. We don’t have enough gas masks to go around, so we’ll have to post some people around the middle floor, about here. We’ll have medical staff standing by right here, just in case. Copasetic?”
“A splendid idea, but the snipers can easily be countered. We need a second team to accompany all of the adjacent rooftop sniper teams to set up covers and guard their rear. Also, if we hide a few vehicles in this garage here, we could easily take the enemy by surprise with a few of those turret-mounted jeeps you have. And, as the final touch, we should set up mortar teams on these two rooftops, just in case they bring in vehicles of their own,” Iotan contributed.
“Right, done. Let’s head out.”
~~~~~~~~~~()~~~~~~~~~~

The convoy arrived at the broadcasting station by the truckload. Immediately the vehicles dumped their passengers, who scurried about to take up their designated positions, humans and Lahzids alike. An engineering team began hooking up the mains to a portable generator and a small group ascended the stairs to reach the main room of the tower.

Daniel, Dover, Judo, R’kan, Amy and Laeina bustled into the large studio, where news broadcasts were likely to have been recorded. Daniel began setting up his laptop and other equipment just as the lights flickered on. Dover pulled on a headset and sat at the control bank behind the scenes, while Judo set up the camera and the lesbian duo fortified the door.

Daniel stepped onto the stage and shuffled nervously.

“Remember, just be honest. No scripting, just let it out. If you put on an act, people will be less likely to believe you,” Dover briefed him. “I’ll start it off, Judo, switch the camera on at my signal, and Daniel, be ready when he does. R’kan, give him some encouraging smiles or something. We ready folks?”

Dover received nods all round, so she began tapping commands into both Daniel’s laptop and the studio computers, before clearing her throat as lights blinked on. “This is Lieutenant Dover of the UNDF with a very important message for the planet Earth. Please stand by to translate this broadcast into your local language.” She placed two fingers against her forehead and flicked them towards Judo, who clicked the camera on.

Daniel’s heart was pounding so hard he thought it might burst out of his chest. He was about to go live to billions of people. Judo gave the thumbs up. Daniel was sweating profusely.

“H-hi everyone, I’m Daniel Tiel, a civilian resident of USA, though I actually come from a little country called New Zealand. Uh… anyway, that’s not really important, is it? What’s important is that the war you’re fighting is a lie. The Lahz – Demons, are not your enemy.”

Dover began furiously typing out commands, blocking every attempt to cut off her access. People were trying to end the broadcast. Once done, she played a video made from snippets of a broadcast that Daniel had set aside for her, placing it above and to the right of Daniel. “The ‘assault’ on our cities were escape pods! The invasion was by scared civilians, running away from a greater threat.”

The video showed tentative Lahzids approaching curiously, not aggressively, then human soldiers mowing them down. “The Demons do not wish to fight us, and in fact, have not been doing all that much damage. We have been killing each other and blaming it on them. Observe.” With a sweeping gesture from Daniel, it was Dover’s cue to bring up some more screens around him, showing Korean orders – straight from Daniel’s flight recorder – to bomb USA and destroy the planes afterwards. Then there were orders from the US military detailing a bombardment of Russia via navy ships.

Then more. And more. Every country was discreetly taking advantage of the chaos to try and settle old grudges or prevent future conflict. Gunfire began rattling away down below. The UNDF had found them, and were now attempting to silence them. “But none of that is important right now, because there is a bigger threat coming, and the Demons – the Lahzids, could be our only hope of fighting it off.” The image next to Daniel switched to the scan of the Wulvan vessel. “A real alien threat is heading to Earth. These creatures are the reason the Lahzids were running in the first place, so if you thought they were bad, you’re gonna have a nightmare of a time with these guys. These creatures are called the Wulvan, and they will destroy us if we don’t end this war right now! The Lahzids will accept our truce if we give them the chance. How do I know?”

Daniel motioned for R’kan, who looked surprised, but quickly did as he was told. He stepped onto the stage with Daniel and gave a shy wave to the camera. “I know because one saved my life! And now a grudging pact has been formed between a UNDF outpost and a Lahzid hideout. Right now, we are under attack by those who wish to keep their secrets, to keep us fighting this alleged ‘enemy’ for their own selfish wants. If we continue fighting, we will all be wiped out, whether by ourselves or the Wulvan invasion force that’s heading straight for us. So throw down your weapons. Strive for peace! Rise up! You are the future!”

Daniel screamed his last few sentences as the room was breached and soldier burst in, screaming orders to get down. Daniel kneeled and raised his hands above his head, still live. R’kan did the same. Two UNDF soldiers wrestled their hands behind their backs and zip-cuffed them, roughly shoving their faces into the ground to subdue them. Then something happened. Out of nowhere, a private smacked the two men over the back of the head with his gun, knocking them both out cold.

“We are the future!” he hollered at the still-live camera. He produced a knife and cut off the two gays’ restraints. “Rise up!”

All around the world now, angry soldiers and civilians alike cried out these words.

“¡Crecer!” Rise up.

“Se soulever!” Rise up.

“Aufgehen!” Rise up.

“Sh?ng q?!” Rise up.

Weapons were thrown down, aliens were cautiously approached, and as one, the whole planet held their breath. Then they touched. Handshakes, hugs, polite kisses, respectful bowing. The reluctant were thrown down by the overjoyed, and as one, the world decided that there would be no more fighting. All it took was two people out of every thousand to be convinced by Daniel’s speech, and each two would show the rest that the young man was right. But the peace wouldn’t last long, nor did anybody expect it to. A few days later, the Wulvan vessel would enter the solar system, but in the meantime, the two species tried to enjoy their peace as much as possible.

Daniel descended the stairs and stepped out into the lobby. There was a surprisingly small number of bodies, all things considered. Lieutenant Dover later told him that with the help of the Lahzids, many men were able to reach medics before their condition became critical – even men from the opposing side. Not many people were shooting to kill.

“Fuck me sideways I never want to do that again,” Daniel claimed as R’kan stepped up next to him, taking his hand gently. “That was an awful speech, how did I manage to actually convince anyone, let alone the entire world? Do you think Dover just lied to me to make me feel better?”

“I’m sure we wouldn’t be standing here if that was the case,” R’kan assured him.

“Oh yeah. Heh.” The two began walking, deciding to have a relaxing stroll back to base rather than take a vehicle. Part of the problem was that nobody knew where to go anymore. Back to the Underground? To the human outpost? Should both species go together, or back to their own comfort zones?

“Oh, and I’m just curious, but you said I saved your life. I didn’t. Choosing not to kill somebody isn’t the same as saving them.”

“Depends how you look at it. If it hadn’t been you, then I would have been killed by a less merciful person. So just by being you, you spared me from that fate. Besides, I would have committed suicide a long time ago if not for you.”

“What?” R’kan shrieked, his voice cracking a little.

“You have no idea how depressing it is knowing you’ll never walk again, especially if you get locked up in isolation with nobody to discuss your feelings with. If you hadn’t been there to comfort me, I would never have pulled through.”

“That’s both terrifying and flattering,” R’kan admitted. He gestured around himself. “This is a pretty good excuse for some celebratory sex, don’t you think?” Daniel chuckled. Trust R’kan. “Oh, and I never got to thank you properly for bringing me my sister back. And I did promise you a treat for being so patient with me when I had to go out on that scavenging mission. That makes three I owe you.” R’kan splayed out three fingers to emphasise the point. “Today, I have a special position I wanna try. You keen for something a bit different?”

“I trust your judgement. If you think it’ll be fun, I’m game. And I’m not afraid to get a little kinky if that’s what you’re worried about. Oh, and we must try a threesome sometime, or even a foursome if you feel up to it. I hope you don’t mind sharing me, because that shit turns me on.” R’kan licked his lips at the thought.

“Me, mind? Quite the opposite; ‘that shit turns me on’ also, as you so graciously put it. But for now, I think a nice romantic fuck between the two of us is the way to go, especially bearing in mind my little plan.”

“We can duck out here if you want?” Daniel suggested, pointing to a hotel building. “We can find a nice, relatively-intact room with a bed that hasn’t been destroyed, and spread our life-giving seed all over this dead building.”

“Oh, Daniel,” R’kan gushed, batting his figurative lashes at him, “I didn’t know you were such a poet.” The two of them laughed mischievously and entered the building. They found a perfect room on their third try and – giggling like school girls – they pranced inside and began throwing off clothes. Daniel carefully put a small radio down on the bedside table; it had been given to him by Lieutenant Dover and was probably important, then resumed stripping down.

R’kan gave him a playful shove onto the bed, then clambered up on behind him, grabbing him around the shoulders and kissing him intimately. Daniel could feel R’kan’s slick, hard lizardhood pressing against his lower back. Clearly whatever the Lahzid had planned was exciting him greatly, and the feeling of R’kan’s throbbing cock pressed against him made his own member rise swiftly with anticipation. “Sit on my lap,” R’kan commanded him softly, whispering huskily with his muzzle only an inch away from his ear, close enough for Daniel to feel the Lahzid’s warm breath wafting onto his sensitive skin.

Daniel gave a pleasant shiver and adjusted himself so R’kan’s legs dangled over the edge of the bed and he was sitting on his scaly thighs. R’kan gripped his hips firmly and lifted his rump, before pressing it down onto his awaiting member. Daniel moaned softly as he was penetrated, R’kan’s cock sliding steadily deeper into his depths, until Daniel was sitting on his crotch. R’kan then raised Daniel’s hips again, pulling him up with his strong hands, before yanking him back down, impaling him on R’kan’s dick and eliciting a pleasured howl as the human’s prostate was squeezed roughly.

R’kan grinned at the positive reaction and sped up his actions, slamming Daniel’s hips into his own while bucking upwards to meet every downwards thrust. Daniel, despite being on top, could do nothing but place his hands over R’kan’s to steady himself as he was hammered from behind. Daniel’s eyes closed and his head lolled back as the sensations overtook him, leaving his head resting on R’kan’s shoulders as the Lahzid continued thrusting into him hard and fast, yanking Daniel’s hips down faster and faster to make every thrust crush his prostate in the most blissful ways possible.

R’kan grunted as Daniel’s passage tightened around his throbbing prick, and he knew he wouldn’t last much longer. Now was the time to spring his surprise on the unsuspecting human. R’kan nudged his muzzle under Daniel’s arm and brought his face up to the human’s leaking cock, before diving in and taking the delicious, warm meat down to the hilt in one go.

Daniel cried out in complete and utter joy as every thrust from R’kan pounded his prostate and milked more of his precum into R’kan’s waiting maw, each upwards motion of his hips driving Daniel’s dick down to the pubic hair into the Lahzid’s maw. R’kan was bobbing in time to his powerful thrusts, making Daniel clench and spasm pleasurably, milking R’kan’s own cock and spurring him on to fellate the human harder. R’kan curled his tongue around the juicy prick in his mouth and licked around the sensitive head even as the shaft flew in and out of his maw with every forceful blow to Daniel’s prostate.

Daniel screamed R’kan’s name – along with a bunch of obscenities – and bucked his hips into R’kan’s muzzle, coating his mouth with his creamy seed. R’kan gulped it down eagerly, trying to milk out as much as possible with his busy tongue even as Daniel’s sporadic anal contractions squeezed his cock in delicious ways. R’kan grunted and slammed Daniel’s hips down one final time, burying himself inside his human and shooting his own load inside Daniel’s passage, the forceful thrust along with the hot seed making Daniel moan and shoot off another strong spurt of human cum down R’kan’s throat.

Daniel slumped onto R’kan’s body, completely and utterly spent, and the Lahzid responded by removing his hands from the human’s hips in favour of wrapping around his torso, embracing his lover tightly. R’kan gently swung his legs onto the bed and lay down on his back, with Daniel’s limp form lying atop him. He nuzzled the human gently, getting a barely-conscious hum of approval from him. There would be plenty of time to talk later. For the moment, R’kan let his eyes close and just enjoyed the warm body pressing against his and the occasional clench from Daniel’s anal walls.

~~~~~~~~~~()~~~~~~~~~~
Lieutenant Dover stared out over the outpost from one of the now-disused sniper towers, her legs dangling over the edge casually as she observed everything, alone with her thoughts. It had all happened so fast; one moment, the entire planet was fighting, the next… this.
In and around the outpost were hundreds of tents, both big and small, to accommodate everybody. The Lahzids had moved in until everything was sorted out, and the UNDF military uniform had an entirely new meaning. Now the UNDF pretty much represented humanity, catering to the needs of the Lahzids, making friends and trying to put the war behind them. Dover knew it wouldn’t be easy, forgetting all the bloodshed and just getting along, but she was certain humanity could manage it. This was the beginning of a new era. She clicked her radio on and smiled softly at who she knew would be on the other end. The heroes. The two men the entire world was looking up to right now.
“Hey you two, are you guys heading over to the outpost? People are getting antsy to meet you. You’re pretty much celebrities now. Yeah, didn’t take long for the media to get back up and running, and you know how long it takes them to find all the latest goss. Surprisingly, everybody’s taking your relationship pretty well. No pitchforks or torches, so that’s a plus.”
“Helerrmanerv?” R’kan mumbled. Then, after a short pause: “I wasn’t sleeping. What was that about media?” Dover sighed, a smirk gracing her lips.
“You two are the figurehead of this new peace. The government has pretty much lain claim to you already; they want you to be ambassadors – more of a stand-around-and-look-pretty kind of job though. Pretty much, you guys get everything provided for you by the UNEC and just have to do the occasional talk show or public appearance. Could be worse, right?”
“UNEC?” R’kan echoed.
“United Nations Earth Council,” Dover explained. “Now that we know there’s other life out there, we need to stop thinking as different countries sharing the same planet, and more as a species sharing the same universe. Besides, with the Wulvan coming, there has to be some way we can all work together to bring them down. The UNEC is just that. A way we can all work together to better our species. And yours too.”
“What do you mean by that, exactly?” R’kan clarified.
“I mean, two Lahzids have already been accepted into the Council, and Iotan has been given an application. He seems a little reluctant though; says that being a wannabe-general was hard enough.”
“Understandable,” R’kan replied. “What about you? You deserve just as much credit as the rest of us. So does Judo, and every man and woman that helped us get that message out across the world.”
“The survivors of the battle are getting medals as soon as everything gets back up and running, and Judo’s been promoted to lieutenant, to replace me. Yes, I’m retiring. I’ve decided that war just isn’t my thing. But right now, I’ve got one last battle to fight before I can go home. We have approximately two days before the Wulvan attack. They’ve got one ship, and it’s massive, but the attack will be isolated and easy to contain if managed correctly. But that’s the hard part. The UNDF is stumped as to how they’re going to stop a heavily-armed ship and a few hundred million aliens. Right now generals from all over the world are discussing plans, but it’s looking pretty grim. At the moment, our best solution is to bottleneck them; have dozens of armies standing by and gun them down as they leave the ship. Problem is, we need to know where the ship is going to land in order to have enough time to set that up.”
“R’kky… who is that?” Daniel mumbled.
“Who do you think it is, fool? The only other person who can access this radio!”
“Heya Talia!” Dover raised an eyebrow in surprise.
“I never told you my first name,” she reminded him. Daniel giggled.
“But you did give me your login details to the UNDF server, remember?” Dover slapped her forehead at her own stupidity. Of course. Well, at least she was retiring, meaning her account would be terminated and so too would Daniel’s access to a military server.
“Well, anyway, the UNEC thought it might be a good idea to have you two on the scene when we fight off these Wulvan guys, to give a little speech about peace or working together or something. So when are you going to get here? We kind of need you to be ready for the plan of action so you guys are prepared when the time comes.”
“Uh, we’re still in the city right now, so we’ll be there in a bit,” R’kan reported.
“I can send you guys a jeep,” Dover offered.
“Nah, we’re pretty close to the city’s edge, it’s not too long a walk.” Daniel murmured something in the background that Dover couldn’t quite make out. “If it comes to it, I can always carry you,” R’kan reminded him.
“Well, try to resist the urge to have sex behind a bush on your way back; the meeting’s already started and we don’t have a lot of time to prepare, so I want you guys briefed by tonight.”
“Oh, don’t worry about that. Daniel and I have already gone at it like a couple of horny animals just a few minutes ago… twenty minutes? Gee, time flies, doesn’t it? Well, catch ya later Talia.” Talia Dover groaned at the two, listening to them giggling like idiots before the line went dead. They arrived an hour later.
~~~~~~~~~~()~~~~~~~~~~

Lieutenant Talia Dover stood at the front of the small room beside a projector. Off to the left resided Judo, who was operating the computer to which the projector was connected. Sitting at a table in the centre of the room was Daniel and R’kan. The table wasn’t exactly comfortable, nor were the chairs, both of which were made of metal and plastic, but the rest of the room looked quite posh.

It had soft, grey carpet lining the floor and smooth walls covered in very dark greyish-blue wallpaper. There were no windows and only a single door, which led out into the command centre beyond.

“So, the plan’s pretty much the same as I told you,” Dover explained. “We gather the biggest army we can muster, station it outside the ship, and obliterate anything that comes out with everything we have. Tanks, artillery, heavy armour, RPGs – anything powerful we can get our hands on.” The projector switched to an image of an advanced military plane of some kind. “This here is a dropship which can carry a hundred men inside. We’ll have thousands of these filled to the brim with human and Lahzid soldiers, and hopefully a thousand more by tomorrow. And these…”

The projector switched again, this time showing a regular Chinook helicopter. “These will be carrying a device designed by the Lahzid, powered by hybrid technology.” Again, the picture changed to some complicated-looking blueprints of some pylon-like devices. “These are designed to create a huge energy barrier capable of surrounding the ship, but we don’t know for how long. Our scientists guarantee ten minutes with the mobile generators we have, but if the ship lands near a city, we can jack power from the city grid and boost that time up to hours. This barrier will ensure no Wulvan escape the area, giving us ten minutes minimum to ship our troops over in some of the most advanced planes mankind has ever seen. We may even have time to set up blockades, covers and towers, depending on how fast this mostly-untested technology can go, and how soon we get the things off the ground.”

Daniel and R’kan nodded solemnly. They both knew there was no choice in the matter – the Wulvan were vicious killers, and had to be destroyed if everyone else was to survive. “And in case you were wondering Daniel, we can’t just bombard the ship because of the advanced technology they have, and the risk that they’ll start launching escape pods if we do. We’ve considered every outcome, and this is the best solution.”

“So now we just have to put all this stuff together and wait,” Daniel concluded. Dover nodded, and the projector switched off.
