The Druid's Secret
Idea #239
I was a little bummed about "Junkyard" but I was happy to jump on this idea as soon as it hit my mind last Sunday night. I was immediately inspired by a sketch drawn by Rukis titled "Muscular Wolf Lady." If you are subscribed to her annual Female Menagerie list then you know what I am talking about!
This is a short story about a guy interested in some small ruins, but comes across a strong built female wolf who potentially knows a lot more. He decides to follow her up a mountain... This is one of the few ideas I had that explicitly contains magic. I also opted for a more sensual "fade away" adult scene rather than explicit sex. I'm hoping that ties in better with the magical atmosphere; or are explicit sex scenes vital to my short stories?
Nestled amongst several green hills below the mountains, and tucked away from the nearest towns and roads was the last remains of an ancient hill fort. After roughly two millennia since its abandonment, there was little left to the naked eye. Much of the settlement had likely been buried beneath the ground, if there was anything left. Several stones were scattered across the grassy hill. Some were significant to the settlement's past, and others were likely to have rolled down the mountainside on their own accord. The area didn't receive much attention like excavated sites, but it had become an uncommon tourist area for locals, and anyone generally interested in ancient history. A single car parked nearby seemed to confirm this.
A backpack wearing human walked around the undisturbed landscape. The view of the mountainside was gorgeous, but his attention was entirely focused on the faint presence of ruins. He approached a tall structure tilting to the right. At just over seven feet tall, the stone was the most noticeable feature of the entire area.
"This is magnificent." The human stared in awe at the lingering monolith. The stone structure had stood the test of time, but it had been weathered over the many centuries. The drawing on the stone's face was faded, but still visible. Many centuries ago an image had been etched into stone resembled a primitively drawn wolf depicting fangs, fur, and a body. It was a relic of ancient artwork, but far too heavy to be moved into a museum. He reached up and traced a hand over the worn stone's surface. The complex lines formed an open mouthed wolf, pointing up towards what could've been a moon. However, the top of the stone monolith was too worn away, and possibly broken, marring the entire picture.
Crouching down, he retrieved a sketchbook from his backpack. There were plenty of little drawings and notes as he flipped through the pages. Local foliage, site layout, a map of the terrain elevation, and descriptions filled much of its contents. He hoped to write a book about the long abandoned hill fort settlements one day. Maybe it would inspire someone else to keep searching and find all the answers.
'We know so little about them despite having all of this left behind.' He opened a page where he had first sketched the stone monolith of the howling wolf.
"It's a shame that history can't preserve itself." Julien muttered to himself and glanced back and forth between his drawing and the actual stone standing before him. There were so many mysteries waiting to be uncovered, but that was half the fun of it all. The other stones and rocks scattered about the level hilltop interested him to a similar degree. He examined several and are his way across the hilltop with ease. None of them were spectacular, but maybe they had been part of something larger. A wall? A building? It may never be known.
The human's eyes drew up and spotted something as odd as the mysterious ruins themselves. A figure was standing on the edge of the hillside maybe two dozen or so meters away. Julien wasn't sure if he could trust his eyes what who the person was.
"A wolf?" He was surprised to see a female Anthropomorphic grey wolf observing the ancient site. Anthro wolf people were said, or rather rumored, to be the descendants of the ancient and often mysterious people who created the hill forts in the regions. However, they are a very small demographic in contemporary times.
What also attracted his eyes to her strange presence was the fact that she was oddly nude in broad daylight. Her mottled grey fur coat was a stark contrast from the green grass covered hills. Her white furred front and grey backside left little to the imagination. She was strongly built. Her paws were sturdy to climb and descend the mountain with ease. Her abs were impressively toned, and her legs were well defined. Her breasts were modest, but well rounded and feminine for their size. The only item she carried was a walking stick firmly in hand. Julien blinked several times but his eyes weren't deceiving him.
"Is she crazy? Someone might see her." Julien looked around, but no one else was within sight of the area. The wolf lady calmly stepped forward until she reached the bottom of a small overhanging slope. She was out in the open, many meters away from the nearest trees to take shelter, or conceal herself. Standing still, she stared at the site with a level gaze that reminded him of a shepherd overseeing a flock. Her presence baffled him.
'Is she a naturist?' He wondered with a confused look. It was a public area where anyone could visit, but Julien had never heard of people like that visiting the area. Only the occasional teenager would even bother coming out this way to goof around, but he had never seen someone walking around in their bare fur or skin.
'Where did she come from?' He looked back at his car a short distance away. However, there was no other vehicle parked within sight. Julien didn't know of any houses built within a mile of the site. Enough curiosity made him act.
"Hey!" He approached her and called out. "Who are you?" But there was no answer. "Hello?" He called again. 'I know she can hear me.' However, the wolf still didn't answer the human. She didn't even look directly at him. After another minute of failing to communicate with her, the wolf made an unexpected move. She turned around and began hiking back uphill towards the untamed field grasses and the forest above.
'What is she doing?' Julien looked up towards the mountain dumbfounded. White clouds were passing over the upper mountain tops, shrouding them with mystery. He wondered what to do. Having never seen her before, would he have the same opportunity again?
'She seems to know this place very well.' Even if she did not, then at the very least he could settle the burning curiosity in his mind. He decided to follow after the mysterious wolf lady. With the straps to his backpack firmly tightened, Julien hiked after the grey wolf.
'I never dreamt of following a naked woman up a mountain before.' The situation was as bizarre as it sounded. The taller grass was parted revealing a little trail at the bottom of the mountain. Not knowing how far she would ascend, he paced himself and kept a check on his surroundings. If anything unexpected happened then he would need to know the way back down.
Looking up, he found that she had paused along the trail. She was expecting him to follow her! After a glance over the shoulder, the wolf resumed her trek up the mountainside with Julien steadfastly following her. The grasses and small brush gradually disappeared the higher they ascended. Trees began to dominate the slope, changing the environment from a plain to a forest. The air felt slightly cooler, and darker with the shade casting trees overhead. The forest floor varied into sections depending on where dappled sunlight could reach. Some spots were nothing more than leaves or twisted roots, others had sparse grasses or moss covered stone, and there were plenty of yearling trees sprouting from last year's fallen acorns.
Julien couldn't make heads or tails of where she was going, but the wolf didn't hesitate or second guess her steps.
"You know this trail very well." He was impressed. Her tail swished in response, but she didn't verbally reply.
"Aren't you going to say anything?" He asked, but he still didn't hear a response from the grey wolf. She was stoically silent. They ascended higher up the mountain until they reached a small plateau nestled on the mountainside. Julien was surprised to find a little modest house built atop the flat wooded space. It was round in shape, but somewhat modern in appearance with typical features; a door, small windows, and a chimney. She had a to little garden of herbs near the house, but oddly enough it looked like half of the garden was full of little tree saplings. He half expected to find a clothesline, but he didn't see any evidence that she wore any style of clothing.
'I have heard that rural Anthro people forgo clothes inside their homes, so maybe she is a reclusive naturist?' He wondered to himself. Her odd lifestyle had him guessing, but one thing was certain all the way up on the mountaintop. "The view is gorgeous up here." He approached a gap in the trees and smiled at the expansive landscape laid out before him. The clouds had lifted allowing Julien to see far into the distance. The hill they had started on was a mere tiny plot of green down below. A small stream passed close by before gradually tumbling its way down a rocky path to the low hills. It was very scenic, and reminded him of cabins built far out into the wilderness. The wolf patiently watched him observe their surroundings.
"Wow. Do you live all the way out here by yourself?" Julien had never heard of someone living so high up in the mountains before.
"Yes, I do." She answered. The human's eyebrows lifted finally hearing the lady speak.
"You talked!" He mentioned.
"You can come inside if you like." She offered while holding the door to her home open.
"Thank you." He gladly accepted. They both had to duck to enter the home before being able to stand upright again. The dwelling was small, but there were no walls which meant everything was essentially in one room. It had a cozy feeling much like a cabin. A bed was situated along one wall, a hearth along another with kitchen utensils hanging, a bookshelf lined one upper section of wall, and a little kitchen sink space with cabinets and a counter. A few hanging baskets contained plants and others had picked herbs and vegetables.
The grey directed him to sit with her at the little square table. Julien set his pack down and joined her. The wicker chair squeaked and hissed as he made himself comfortable. Finding himself face to face with the mysterious canine lady, the human couldn't help but smile with anticipation. Despite her lovely figure, she never appeared to show off her naked body. Julien liked that she didn't make a big deal out of her own nudity. It helped him feel a little more comfortable in the strange dwelling.
"I noticed the garden you have." He pointed. "But I think half of the plants were trees."
"Mmhm." She nodded. "I will take those saplings down the mountainside to plant them."
"Oh, ok." He nodded at the odd hobby and looked around the single room house. "You're not exactly how I imagine an enthusiastic archaeologist, historian, or... well, you might be an adventurer of sorts." Julien admitted.
"You are curious about the stone?" She asked.
"Not just the stone, but everything!" He exclaimed. "I love history and learning about ancient people fascinates me to no end." The human's eagerness to learn was contagious and made the wolf grin approvingly.
"What do you know about the area at the base of the mountain?" She inquisitively asked.
"Oh..." Julien bobbed his head and thought for a second. "I wanted to know what you knew about them." He found it funny that she had asked him. "We know that they were all wolves like yourself, so I was fascinated when I saw you down there by yourself." He explained. "I didn't know if I would ever see you again, and I have to admit, you're a very curious looking person!" He chuckled.
"Let's see..." He composed his thoughts. "There is so much we don't know about them." Julien admitted. "How did they see the world around them?" He asked the question. "Did they worship nature, or simply observe it?"
"My people had their own understanding of nature, the world in which they inhabited." She informed the human.
"Your people?" He was confused. "Are you a local or something?"
"In a way, yes." She humbly answered only to pause and think for a moment. "I cannot tell you, but I can show you." Her words rang with an ominous tone that sent a chill down his spine. He searched her face for an answer, but an uncomfortable feeling crept over him as they locked eyes. Her powerful gaze felt dizzying to meet directly. Was it his imagination, or could she see right into his soul? Julien blinked and quickly looked away. He rubbed his eyes feverishly as if something had gotten inside them.
"Hey, uh..." He started to say and stand at the same time, but lost his footing. His leg tangled with the wooden chair's leg causing him to fall backwards. The wolf grabbed her walking stick and jumped forward to help. Julien swung his arm reactively, without meaning to, but a firm smack from her walking staff deflected the potential hit. Stumbling onto the ground with an uncomfortable thud, Julien looked up at the grey wolf wielding the pole expertly. Her staff wasn't merely a leisurely walking stick, but a weapon. Nearly straddling him, the wolf loomed over the startled human.
"Hey-!" He struggled only for the wolf to grab his head. Despite her iron strong grip, she held his head carefully like a precious fragile vase. 'Is she mad?' Julien wondered if he would have to fight the canine lady, but something changed. Her eyes seemed to glow, drawing him into the wolf's inescapable gaze. All he could see was the depths of her own eyes, much like the darkness of the sky at night. He couldn't move in the slightest, and it frightened him. His eyes suddenly filled with bright colors. Julien's mouth quivered as he felt himself soaring into the beaming palettes of light. The wolf's face quickly faded away and was replaced by countless stars against a dark celestial backdrop. His sense of reality felt distorted as he began falling. His heart raced and body began to sweat feeling an impending doom.
"Aahhh!" He closed his eyes and yelled only for the rush to instantly stop. Julien accidentally leaned forward and felt himself take a half step. His ears detected grass softly crunching beneath him. Blinking his eyes several times, he found himself staring at the ground. A wave of relief washed over him that he was no longer falling.
"Where did she go? I was with her..." The mysterious grey wolf wasn't holding him anymore, and he was no longer inside her humble mountain dwelling. Looking around, he was outside once again, but everything felt oddly familiar.
"Where am I?" Julien was surrounded by several primitive structures. Most of the buildings around him were round in shape with tall roofs. They resembled houses that were constructed using mud, timber, and thatching. The few roofed structures that were not round in shape used stone as a foundation. All of their entryways were set low. A small primitively constructed pen made from wood contained several grazing goats. A palisade wall encircled the entire settlement. It looked like a drawing of a hill fort had come to life, and he was in the center of it!
"I'm in a village?!" He couldn't believe what he was seeing. "This is too real..." He glanced at the grass beneath him. It was like no dream he had ever experienced before. The human quickly realized it wasn't any village. A familiar structure captured his attention, as it always had before. He dragged his feet towards it with a gaping expression across his face.
"It's... I don't understand..." The tall monolith of carved stone Julien had examined earlier loomed above him. It was nearly twice as tall as he remembered, and no longer tilted to the side. The carved lines were no longer worn. It was as if age had been permanently lifted from its previously weathered surfaces. The imagine was pristinely clear like a running stream. The stone depicted a wolf howling up at a beautifully designed tree where many different swirling patterns represented its leaves. Above the tree was a series of small moons in different phases. It was the completed monolith!
'This can't be real... Is this a dream?' Julien couldn't grasp what was happening.
"Uaties gutous."
"Nimatum grae." The sounds of voices startled him. Spinning around, Julien was in awe at the sight of several wolves walking amongst him. The village was suddenly full of wolf people! Many were mottled grey, but plenty had different colorations; solid black, solid grey, tan fur, light brown, dark brown, solid white, and others with many natural patterns.
They wore primitive garments. Most adult males wore simple knee length tunics with woven rope-like belts tied around their waists. Adult females appeared to wear longer dresses with the belt piece being optional. Several women were standing around outside one hut where several spears, axes, and round shields were hanging outside. They were talking while one person decorated a shield. Two of them only wore a loincloth while their otherwise naked bodies were painted with woad. Their torsos, breasts, and cheeks had blue spiral shapes, whereas the rest of their body had different line patterns. No one else seemed to mind or even give a second glance at the virtually naked she wolves.
"Amar clagh dae!" A little wolf pup scurried over to one of the female wolves who graciously picked him up.
"Lugdunon." He heard another wolf close by say. A merchant was bartering with the shepherd who oversaw the goats. He was incessantly haggling with a coin and a small object made from silver. Despite all of the activity, none of the wolves couldn't see nor hear the human.
'Am I invisible?' He didn't know what to do.
"My ancestors lived here long ago..." The wolf lady's voice suddenly echoed inside the human's head.
"What the..." He looked around, but couldn't see her. "Where are you?!" Julien watched the cloudy sky hoping for an answer. He covered his ears, but continued to hear her voice.
"This is their homeland." Her voice continued to echo around him. "They were divided by tribes into many fortified villages, worshipping different nature gods on what was most sacred to them. However," her voice grew somber, "division makes conquest easier for enemies." She finished speaking. Julien looked around only to watch the time quickly pass at an exponential rate.
The sun sailed across the sky like a bird and day turned to night in mere seconds. Every trace of light had been banished like a wave. The sun and moon began revolving in the sky at incredible speed, chasing each other with voracity. Day and night became a blur as time jumped forward. The settlement around him at first appeared little different through the subsequent seasons. Figures blurred like city lights in a still picture as they passed by with accelerated speed. Festivals and sacred rites of passage were performed; houses were built, old buildings replaced; the young grew up, and the old passed away.
Years passed by in mere seconds, and then things changed for the village. A fire, a drought, and lastly an invasion by a more advanced group. Fire swept through leaving only traces of the settlement behind. A few wolves still lingered over the years, but as time stretched into decades and then centuries, the site became abandoned to time. Building foundations became buried under the soil. Lingering monuments were defaced, toppled, or removed entirely. Trees began to reclaim much of the lower mountainside without anyone chopping them down for fuel or building materials. Through the blurring passage of time Julien focused on the tall stone monolith. The rock became faded from the wind and rain. The top half now resting on the ground became covered by soil, now hidden beneath everyone's feet. It continued until the stone looked no different from earlier in the day when he arrived at the site. He was in the present, having experienced two millennia in what felt like less than half an hour. And then in one flash, darkness enveloped his vision.
Julien's eyes suddenly opened as he awoke on a soft surface. The sensation of sheets underneath his body calmed him.
"What the..." All of the images lingered in his mind like a dream, but everything had felt far too real to be a mere dream. Taking a deep breath, he lifted an arm and stared at his hand. Everything felt normal. "I'm breathing... I'm okay." He told himself, and took a moment to collect his thoughts.
"Was that real?" Julien half expected to find himself waking up from a long nap inside his own home. However, the room was not his own. His dresser was missing along with his nightstand and other personal furniture. There was no ticking of the hallway clock either. Glancing around, he was shocked to find himself inside the mountain home and laying on a bed.
The wolf was standing at the bedside, looming over him. She was so close that he almost did not see her. His gaze traveled down her front revealing that she was still very naked. The human's mind filled with so many questions. Julien opened his mouth but couldn't speak. What could he say after all that he had seen and experience? Her powerful gaze looked at him understandingly.
"You had the visions." She told him.
"What visions?"
"I shared the history of the town with you." The wolf elaborated, but her revealing knowledge startled him.
"Who are you?" He started to edge away from her, but she placed a hand firmly on his bare chest. Looking down, Julien found that he was almost as naked as the wolf standing at the bedside. His shirt, pants, and shoes were no longer on his body. Only his boxers remained clad around his waist. "Where are my clothes?"
"You don't need to be frightened, Julien." Her steady voice soothed him. The human looked at her claw tips on his rising and falling chest. The padding of her palm and fingertips was soothingly warm and leathery. He stared up at the grey wolf's face, searching for answers.
"My name is Touta, and I am a Druid." Her green eyes met his once again, but Julien looked away from her gaze. He closed his eyes wondering what else she could do to him. "I won't share anymore visions with you right now." She promised. "Not until you are ready again." Julien found it hard to readily trust the grey wolf, and stared at her furry hip.
"You won't hurt me, will you?" He felt vulnerable despite her kindness and reassurances. The wolf shook her head with amusement.
"No. I won't harm you." The grey wolf began lightly rubbing the center of his chest in little circles. Julien drew in a hasty sigh and exhaled. Her gentle touch was a nice reminder that he was no longer experience
"You have a strong heart." She softly spoke.
"Um. Thank you." The odd comment felt intimate given the situation. He knew that she could feel his heartbeat using her hand. His gaze remained fixated on her waist. Without a thought he reached over and touched the wolf's hip. She didn't shy away, but stood firm. Her body was delightfully warm, and her fur coat was naturally soft, just as it appeared. His hand trailed over her flat abdominals with curiosity and admiration. The wolf felt as strong as she looked. However many years she spent climbing mountains kept her body well toned and physically fit like a goddess. Julien rested his hand there for a minute, and could feel her breathing steadily. It was comforting to physically feel that she was a living breathing person like anyone else.
His gaze meandered up her body. The feminine swell of her modest breasts were hanging within reach as well. With a little leap of faith he ventured a little higher and brushed his fingertips against the underside of one breast. The supple softness yielded little resistance.
"Wow." Julien felt the comment eagerly slip out as he gently cupped her breast. He paused before finally looked up at her again. This time he didn't feel any fear when he looked into her green eyes. The great mysterious void was no longer there, but something else gleamed back at him. Touta's gaze made him feel warm, cozy, loved, and a little giddy through the emotions he sensed. Her knee rose up and rested on the bedside. Julien glimpsed her sex nestled between her thighs. She didn't expose herself despite being naked, but there wasn't much guessing between them anymore. He could sense what her intentions were now.
The Druid warmly gazed at the human for a moment, and sensed no hesitation from the human. She reached across him and crawled onto the small bed. Touta straddled his waist, and hugged his sides with her legs. The strong wolf's breasts noticeably jiggled as she shifted comfortably atop his waist. His heart beat faster feeling a desirable warmth resting above his thinly covered crotch. Julien had a lovely eyeful of the grey wolf beauty atop above him.
"Comfortable?" She leaned forward and touched his shoulders. The firm nipples on both breasts seemed to watch him endearingly.
"Yes." His mouth felt dry as he reached down and touched her strong legs. "You feel wonderful." A little grin emerged across her canine muzzle. She gently laid on top of him, bringing them nose to nose. Julien drew his arms up the canine woman's sides and loosely wrapped his arms around her back. Simply holding her was a great pleasure. The sensation of her fur caressing his skin felt warm and inviting. His hands trailed down her back and rubbed the wolf's ample rear. Her tail swished excitedly in response.
The wolf's eyes were half open as her muzzle drew across his cheek. Julien couldn't see her mouth, but he distinctly felt a smooth tongue lick him before her teeth lovingly nipped his skin. He arched his back and sighed as Touta licked and nibbled down his cheek to his neck leaving aroused goosebumps in her wake.
"Please stay... for the night." She whispered. Julien didn't answer as their lips drew together. Both of them knew that he wasn't going anywhere as daylight faded outside the isolated house. A very tender night of lovemaking awaited them both.
The sunrise greeted the mountain in virtual silence, save for a few chattering birds. The two inhabitants of the secluded mountain home didn't stir for more than an hour. When the front door finally opened, Touta stepped outside leading Julien by the hand. The human wasn't dressed yet. Despite being as naked as the wolf, he wasn't shy about walking outside with her. His steps staggered a little bit, sore from climbing a mountain as well as other activities from last night. The Druid led the human to the calm and clear waters of a small spring.
Touta helped him sit down at the waster's edge. The human stretched his legs out into the spring. The cold water shocked and soothed his body at the same time. The wolf cupped the spring water into her hand and poured it over his body. He exhaled peacefully as gently massaged his skin. It was part of a ritual cleaning that Touta wanted to give Julien.
"You're quiet." She mentioned knowingly.
"I'm just thinking." He stared at the calm surface of the water that reflected the treetops above. A leaf fell down, disturbing the surface with little ripples.
"About what? Last night?" Touta guessed.
"No." He said with a grin. "I was thinking about yesterday." Julien explained. "Why did you show me all of that?" He asked with confusion. "All of those images, the people... everything." It was an eye opening experience that broth him closer to studying the past than ever before. The grey wolf didn't answer immediately and resumed washing his skin.
"So you can write about it, and possibly teach others so the sacred history isn't forgotten." She explained. "You wouldn't have believe me if I had simply told you."
"You're right. I wouldn't have believed you," he acknowledged, "but why did you want me to write about the hill fort?"
"Because you are passionately interested in the history, and you're fascinated by the people who once lived here so long ago." She told him. Julien slowly nodded in agreement. It was all true, and he always wanted to compile all of the information known about the ancient people into a book. When Touta finished bathing him, she led him to stand in a patch of sunlight. Without her warm hands his wet skin easily chilled in the morning air.
"I will come back." She quickly disappeared back into the house.
'I can't believe I'm standing naked in the woods...' The human found it ironic after chasing after the naked grey wolf yesterday. He kept himself from shivering long enough for her to return with a towel in hand.
"So you do have things to wear up here." He was surprised as she wrapped the towel around him.
"My towels are to stay dry." She pleasantly chuckled. "I only use a blanket or two for winter."
"Oh, ok." Julien grinned all the same. "You still look beautiful, even with scruffy bed fur." He ruffled her unkempt torso. The wolf grinned and brushed her muzzle against his face. They paused and leaned on each other for a minute, simply feeling the other's physical presence and warmth through their naked bodies. Julien wished it could've lasted much longer.
"Are you ready to return?" She asked as Julien finished drying himself. He hesitated before quietly nodding. Not every adventure could last forever. They went back inside once more. Touta helped him dress and gather his belongings. His sketchbook had several more pages of notes than it did yesterday. He took a moment to appreciate the view of the lowland hills a final time before taking ahold of her hand. Touta walked alongside the human to show him the way.
Their trek down the mountainside was quiet between them for the most part. However, he could sense the forest around him in a more profound way. He could hear the birds chirping in the early morning air. Their calls echoed through the mountainside forest with an archaic tune that had existed far longer than civilization. The smells of the forest permeated his nose. The freshness of dew, peaty scents of forest soil, and aromas of distant field flowers carried in the breeze invigorated his sense of smell. His eyes noticed the details of bark from smoother ashes and elms to rougher oaks and scaly pines. It was akin to walking through a natural history museum.
The trees and forest vegetation a gradually dissipated as they descended the mountain's slope. The sunlight's warmth felt rejuvenating on the human's skin. Walking through the trail in the dew laced tall grass, crickets chirped incessantly in the early morning air. A herd of deer even observed them from afar as they passed by. They arrived back at the old hill fort's site where the stone monolith with the faded wolf etching still stood tall, albeit at a tilt.
"We're back." Julien mentioned after what felt like a much longer journey. His car was still parked in the same spot as if nothing had changed. "Why do you live on the mountain all alone?" He asked. "You don't have to do that."
"It is my choosing." She solemnly answered.
"Ok." He felt a little dismayed that she wasn't planning to come with him. "Can I visit you again?"
"If you remember the trail, yes." A little grin grew along her muzzle.
"There's so much I want to learn."
"I can teach you all that I know, but it will take time." She said with a glint in her green eyes. Julien looked forward to it all.
"I love studying history, and discovering what has not been uncovered for centuries. I want to learn more about your people, but," his hesitation made her canine ears swivel curiously, "I want to learn more about you too." His words made her ears perk up. For once Touta appeared bashful and nervous in front of him. The Druid stepped closer and wrapped her arms around the human.
"I look forward to your return." She humbly spoke. The warmth of her furry body pressed against him felt indescribable.
"I do too." He returned the hug before they parted ways. "Thank you again." Julien spoke before departing. Walking back across the ancient hill fort he couldn't help but look at the stone monolith once again before leaving. The traces of the ancient past felt very much alive now, and no longer out of reach.
'I think I got a parking ticket...' He noticed a piece of paper on his windshield beneath the wiper. 'Ridiculous.' He balled it up before tossing it onto the backseat. Julien looked over a final time. Touta was standing on the same spot, overlooking the site from the bottom of the mountain's slope. Julien smiled and waved at her. The grey wolf kindly waved back at him. He gazed up at the mountain with a sense of wonder, before getting in his car. It was a natural monument in the middle of the modern world, overlooking the secrets of the past.
***End.
Author's note: I can imagine this being a longer idea where Julien is actually sent back in time and has to return to the present with the aid of magically communicating with Touta.
I also thought I made up the word "Touta" but luckily it means "tribe/people" in Gaulish.
