Kelsie had been off her feed now for nearly a week, Pete begged, pleaded and even threatened to force-feed her, but she refused, growing increasingly weaker and her once beautiful Whitetail body wasting away. In desperation, Pete had done something he swore he'd never subject his beloved Therian partner too...
He called a Veterinarian...
*
"Master!" Kelsie cried, eyes wide in terror as she shook her head. "You can't!"
"I have no choice!" Pete snapped at her, then instantly regretted his harsh words, as Kelsie recoiled like he'd struck her.
"I'm - " Kelsie began, then shuddered and looked away. "I'm just a little unwell, I'll eat, I promise and -"
Pete looked at Kelsie, who lay on her specially crafted bed. She had lost a third of her weight, and even her once beautiful pelt was dry and brittle. She tried to eat the pellets and grains he fed her, but she only threw them up again moments later. At best, he managed to get her to drink water – it was all she seemed to be able to keep down.
Neither Kelsie nor Pete had any idea what was wrong with her...
*
Kelsie trembled as the Vet carefully looked her other, then placed a freezing stethoscope against Kelsie's side, then listened attentively for several minutes, moving it here, there and elsewhere. Keeping her word, Kelsie acted like a normal, domesticated pet deer. Even though she was terrified of the vet, knowing what she was – she promised Pete, her master and her mate, she would not utter a word.
For an hour, the Vet examined Kelsie, pushing the Therian Whitetail almost to breaking point – especially when the Vet slid a thermometer under Kelsie's tail, something she had hated passionately, but a warning squeeze from Pete forced her to remain quiet.
"She last ate, a week ago, you said?" Asked the Vet.
"About that - " Pete nodded, as he stroked Kelsie's ears and looked worryingly at her. "Is she alright? Usually, she's got a fantastic appetite, so full of life and energy..."
Placing a hand on Kelsie's belly, the Vet gently felt and pressed, making Kelsie squirm and shiver.
"Can we get her to walk around for a bit? I need a sample of urine, just to double-check a theory you understand!"
Pete slipped a halter onto Kelsie's head, then led her outside and began walking around the field with her on a leash like a dog. For Kelsie, this was almost too much to bear. He only had to ask her, and she'd have followed him anywhere – to be led like some pet...well, she understood why...didn't mean she enjoyed it however.
Finally, nature took its time, and Kelsie tugged on the rope, her bladder signalling her mind she needed desperately to urinate. Pete watched as the Vet gathered a sample of it in a small specimen jar, then using something from her bag, they both watched as the yellow urine sample turned a brilliant blue.
"I thought so - " Smiled the Vet, as she discarded the sample and nodded. "Your dear pet is with fawn..."
"How..." Pete stared, wide-eyed.
"How? Well, she's loved, well cared for and obviously, she feels for you. You mentioned you've had her since she was a fawn?"
Pete nodded.
“Yeah, I hand reared her, dear Kelsie and I, we've been close all her life."
A glance from Kelsie made Pete squirm, thankfully, the Vet was peeling her gloves off.
“Apart from some minor issues – truly, she's in almost perfect health. It is uncommon for a in fawn doe to lose her appetite though. Kelsie isn't seriously underweight, but she does need to eat. What do you feed her?"
Kelsie cropped at some grass, even though she hated it, acting like a normal feral deer.
“Kelsie's fed the proper deer pellets and other things that was recommended for her. I do keep her away from treats and such."
At least the one's like cookies and things. Kelsie mentally giggled. Go on, tell the Vet how you give me special treats, like a nice hot salty drink...
Almost as if Pete sensed Kelsie's thoughts, he smiled and stroked her neck gently, then gave a delicate squeeze, as if to tell her he knew what she was thinking.
“Well, as I was saying, she needs to eat, a lot more than usual, for her sake and that of the development of her fawn. As for the how well, I'm assuming during the last rutting season, she found herself a lovely Stag..."
Kelsie looked up at Pete, who smiled and ruffled her ears gently.
“Nature took its course – and now – in about six months, give or take a few weeks, Kelsie will give birth. Now, I don't know her exact age, but going off her size and approximate body weight..."
Kelsie sighed inwardly, leaning into Pete's gentle scratching and wishing the Vet would just leave already.
“Well, as its her first fawn, its very unlikely Kelsie here will be carrying twins. It's not uncommon for the Whitetail does to bear twins – but usually – its when they're older and more mature. I suspect, she will just have a single fawn..."

After the Vet left, Pete watched, Kelsie standing beside him, before they returned inside the house and Kelsie glared at him.
“Alright, alright - “ Pete sighed, as he unbuckled the halter and slid it off, throwing it carelessly onto the couch.
Kelsie shuddered and stretched.
“That was so humiliating!" Kelsie growled.
Pete gently placed his hands under Kelsie's head and lifted it up, as he kissed her lightly on the forehead.
“I know my love, I'm sorry – I was genuinely scared for you! I did not know what else to do, and now we know what's wrong with you... you're...pregnant..." He murmured.
Kelsie's eyes narrowed, as she frowned and shook her head, long ears slapping. “I don't – how can I..."
Pete laughed nervously, then ruffled her ears. “You know how Kelsie...we've, well, we've mated often enough...I never thought – I mean, the timing is off...I wasn't..."
Kelsie sniffled, then tried to look away, but Pete's hold on her muzzle held her head still.
“I forgave you for turning me Kelsie - “ Pete whispered, then used his thumbs to stroke her furred cheeks. “it was an accident..."
“I never... I mean, can a human and – one such as me...us I mean..." Kelsie sniffled, eyes widening in fear and confusion.
“Obviously, we can breed..." Pete shook his head in disbelief. “I never thought, all those times we shared our love for each other..."
“Mas..." Kelsie began, then swallowed, knowing Pete hated being called Master. “I'm scared..."
Pete sat down, then pulled Kelsie's head into his lap and stroked her soothingly. “I know my love, I am too, to be honest with you, but I'll never do anything to hurt you – or our dear chi...I mean, our fawn."
Kelsie looked up at him, through her long eyelashes, before she sniffled and squeezed her eyes tightly closed against the hot, salty tears that began to flow.
*
Weeks turned to months, then before either of them was prepared, Kelsie's painful labour began...
Confused, hurt and her belly heavily swollen with her unborn fawn, Kelsie moaned and lay down, before it grew too painful and she stood up again, pacing back and forth as her fawn kicked and tumbled within her. Once again, she lay back down, panting and trembling.
Kelsie had never fawned before – she had no idea what to expect. Her knowledge, even ancestral, handed down from mother to daughter through her genes, was of little help or comfort.
As a Therian Doe's time drew close – she would be excised from the herd, only her mother or next closest female relative and another, would be present during the birth...
So her memory told her – but Kelsie was alone, she had no family, no friends of her own kind to explain, comfort and console the terrified, panting young Doe. Again, pain lanced through her, making her moan and tremble helplessly.
Kelsie's eyes widened, as a savage pain tore through her body that made her cry out and writhe in agony. Hearing her frantic cries, Pete come running and he took one look at her then frowned, before he moved and slid aside Kelsie's long, wedge like tail.
"What's happening to me?" Kelsie cried out, her legs twitching helplessly, the cloven hooves wrinkling the coverlet on which she lay.
“Easy, easy honey!" Pete whispered, as he placed a wet towel over Kelsie's neck and stroked her tenderly, feeling her fur slick with sweat.
“It hurts!" Kelsie shrieked, as another painful contraction felt like it'd tear her asunder.
“I can't begin too...wait, I see hooves, that's it darling, next time you feel the..."
Kelsie shrieked, as an even stronger contraction gripped her and she bore down, the fawn's legs sliding from her vaginal passage and a gush of embryonic fluid spurted. Pete used one hand to gently pet Kelsie, the other he held the fawns tiny, oh so delicate legs.
Panting heavily, Kelsie sobbed and trembled helplessly. Pete knew he couldn't do anything for her – he wasn't even sure if just holding the fawns legs were the right thing to do! He felt elated yet sickened at the same time, as Kelsie shrieked and thrashed, the painful contractions bringing her such unimagined pain. As the birth continued, Kelsie screamed, flinched and trembled, before she rolled over onto her belly and tried to stand – anything to ease the pain she felt.
“Halfway there Kelsie, it's a beautiful fawn, almost..." Pete encouraged her, watching Kelsie's vaginal walls stretched and the fawn, now free of the hardest part, slithered out onto Kelsie's bed with a wet, sickening splat. Pete clawed at the embryonic sack that covered the weak fawn, tearing at it as Kelsie wept and gasped, her breath coming in painful pants as her flanks heaved and body quivered.
Pete picked up the wet, sticky fawn, gazing down at it as it suddenly choked and mucus and fluids rushed from its mouth and nostrils, before it drew its first breath and began to bleat loudly, dark eyes appearing behind the wet eyelids as the fawn took her first glances at this strange, terrifying world she had just been born into...
Kelsie's head snapped around, her eyes wide and filled with tears, ears pricking forwards.
“Our..." Kelsie murmured.
Pete placed the wet, sticky fawn right where Kelsie could see her. Instantly, Kelsie's instincts took over and she began licking the fawn clean, as Pete watched, his own tears running down his cheeks, as he watched that magical moment doe and fawn bonded...
