(First Book) When 2 worlds collided - Part 1
A whole part consists of eight chapters. It is going to be a lot of words and text, but it just makes it easier. You can always though go and remember where you last stopped reading.
With that being said, just a quick note aswell: I am going to upload each part when it's done. This one's going to have around 8,000 words.
The Beginning
TOMORROW INC., TESLA CITY, 13:40 (1:40 pm)
"I told you I need my coffee with milk and sugar, you know that coffee basically flows through my body. And you brought me a vita drink. Are you trying to poison me?", I shouted at my new assistant. "I'm sorry, they didn't have coffee", he tried to excuse. So I then said: "Look, I'm sorry. This is a big day. We can't do any mistakes now. Lester's been helping me with the formula and we had a breakthrough. I am just so stressed. Trisha's requesting reports, Branda wants me to file her the results and the best I could currently get is either a coffee or a raise, of which the first seems more realistic."
We walked further and further to the elevator. All doors in Tomorrow Inc. are secured with either a fingerprint scanner or for the different security levels: Retina scan and 8-digit codes.
As we approached the elevator our section chef bumped into the conversation: "Did you hear that? The Jenny's ran out of coffee today. Unbelievable..." I looked at him and said: "Yeah, someone's cut my blood supply off. Hell, if they have problems delivering I should be driving the bloody truck." The door opened and some suities (I call them that since they wear suits, work in either IT or do reports on basic stuff and act so hyper-important) just stumbled out of the elevator like they were trapped in there for hours. "Can't we take another elevator?" "Why?", I asked. My chef said: "Well this one was apparently stuck for awhile." Right, I take everything I said about that elevator thing back. "You mean 'Let's wait another 5 minutes for one of those things to show up'?" "Good, your point."
We stepped inside and he pushed the button for Section 5, held his eye up against the scanner and entered his personal password. Every employee, including me, of Section 5 gets to choose his own personal password to prevent stealing and unallowed entering. "Big day today ain't it?", my chef said happily. And yes, he has a name: Gerald. Gerald Foster, former leader of Section 5 and teamleader of our biggest and most expensive project: The TIITD. You might think: "Why does this spell 'Tit'?" I know, the name is rubbish but in its long form it is "Tomorrow Inc. Interdimensional Traveling Device".
In my eyes the best pun anyone has ever made. "How did you get here" "Oh, I went by the Tit". Anyway, back to the story:
Foster and my assistant, aswell as me of course walked through some corridors as we finally stood in the control room the TIITD (It sounded better in my head). "How's everything going?", asked Sheffield one of the team members: "Quite good. Some adjustments on the interference tracker and we should be good."
Let me explain something here: We recieved a signal a while back and it was the best opportunity of making my theories facts. Since our systems couldn't handle the amount of resources needed to transform this signal into readable coordinates. So instead we took what we got and used a simple backwards tracking device to link the machine directly to the coordinates, rather than trying to translate them. That was Foster's idea and that made him our team leader.
"Sounds really good. And Nick?" "Yes?" "You are really sure that you want to be in the teleport group when this thing goes off." "Absolutely." "Are you not scared?" "Definitely. But for science I am not going to ruin this by standing in the cabin and watching others happily running around in new grounds." "You always were stubborn. But that is what made you. An amazing scientist and human being." "Thank you. You always know the right thing to say. That made you a great team leader." "Anyway, Nick, I am off to eat lunch and tomorrow we will make an amazing leap for humanity and everything beyond this portal." "See you tomorrow, Foster."
My assistant tapped my shoulder and asked me: "Is it OK if I go home? My girlfriend wanted to go on a bicycle ride with me and the weather conditions are perfect." "Sure thing Edward. Go and take the day off. We all need mental preparation for tomorrow. "Foster asked you if you're scared. On a scale from zero to ten, how scared are you?" I slightly grinned and answered: "Two point five times ten to the power of five". He grinned aswell and we both laughed for a second and he walked back to the elevator. I stood there looking at the beauty. Saying to myself: "This is what I always wanted to do. Go further than anyone else. And hey, if it kills me, my body will be fantastic for science."
23 ADAMS STREET, TESLA CITY, 18:00 (6:00 pm)
I sat on my chair, thinking about all the things that could lay beyond the line that divides our dimensions. I always believed in parallel worlds and different dimensions but this was just unbelievable. I thought after my father's death everything was going to go down. But a downgoing curve never fitted my life. I always had a hand for the good. I helped my classmates, helped a lot of people and now I am sitting here, being scared of my biggest dream. But I have to. I can't just whithdraw and let the others get all the good stuff out of this.
And yes, being stubborn really helps you. It's like a Fusion Core that keeps you going. Many things need an error for a success. I spent two and a half years figuring out how to make that travel possible. Here I am, on my couch. Everything I ever wanted is just one day away.
Some people think that being scared is something bad. But it's not. It generally keeps you safe and sane. If I wouldn't feel fear, I would have probably blown myself up already. But that luckily only happened with our 1500 Watt microwave. My lord that was a beast. Cooked lunch in twenty seconds.
If there is one thing that you always should believe in: It's not god, science or anything else. You should always believe in yourself so your inner Fusion Core doesn't burn out. And I knew that the day tomorrow would be the biggest day in all of humanity's era.
After drinking wine and sitting by my fireplace, thinking and ranting about so many things I finally went to bed since I didn't want to miss anything tomorrow. As I layed there, in bed, my eyelids gained weigth and felt down allowing me to fall deeply into a long and relaxing sleep, knowing I deserved it more than just well.
Doomsday
TOMORROW INC., TESLA CITY, 07:56 (7:56 am)
This is the day. Finally. All I every dreamed of. I slowly walked towards the elevator. Edward, my assistant, waiting there smiling at me: "Don't you dare to forget to bring a souvenir." "Don't worry Ed, I'll see what I can find." I pushed the elevator button and the twenty seconds it took the moving device to turn it felt like five minutes. We both stepped inside and I did the usual procedure of: Retina, Code, Button. The doors closed and we went downwards. With what an enormous speed. Well, the elevator does have to go a distance of around a kilometer. As the doors opened we walked simultaneously towards the control room and met Foster: "Well morning Nicky. Hey Eddie." "Hello Foster. So. We are standing here, preparing ourselves for the biggest leap humanity has ever done." "We certainly are. Oh my god I can't tell you how nervous I am..." Foster said with a hint of a squeaky voice.
It was around eight o'clock now and a little alarm turned on: "ALL TEAM MEMBERS OF THE SECTION 5 PROJECT MUST NOW HEAD TO THE PROJECT AREA AND TAKE THEIR POSITIONS. UNAUTHORIZED PERSONNEL MUST LEAVE SECTION 5."
"This really is it." I whispered. Luckily with my permission Edward was allowed to stay. Foster grabbed a microphone and held a little speech: "Hello everyone and thank you for you contribution to this amazing project. We are here today to take a giant step, no, a leap forward in science. We are going to explore new ground and we are hopefully going to withdraw valueable information from this mission. The moon landing was one step, today we will make the second. And tomorrow we will leap. Since this is why Tomorrow Inc. was founded. To set new standards for humanity and ensure safety and progress." The whole team applauded and so did Ed and me. He was the perfect team leader. He just knows what to say and that makes this a perfect combination between scientists and charismatic leaders. Everything was said. Foster still held his microphone with slightly sweaty hands: "Team Alpha, please boot up the mainframe. Team Beta, open the gate to the main teleporter room." The big airtight doors opened and I was nervously walking down into the hall with the rest of the crew. Our mission was simple: Collect info and data and occasionally make a connection between our worlds. Since this wasn't just a teleporter into nothing. I mean someone sent the signal and so you must be able to live there. Wherever "there" is.
We stood down there. I could hear my heartbeat loud enough. We all shook each others hands and prepared for the jump. Foster continued: "Team Gamma. Initialize the Backwards tracing device. Ensure that all values are green and for god sake don't make a mistake. Team Delta. You can then start the transportation funnel. And don't forget to shield them!"
It feeled like time slowed down. Here I am, about to travel further than anyone else. My pulse was at around 120 and I slightly began to sweat. Luckily I wasn't the onliest one.
"Team Epsilon. On my command Launch the crew through the funnel. All teams ready?" The teams answered with a clear yes and Foster began the countdown: "In T minus 10. 9. 8. 7. 6. 5. 4. 3. 2. 1. Begin Initialization now." The rotors behind us sped up and formed a shield around us. Then the funnel rotors beneath us accelerated. Every second we could be in another world. Exploring new technologies, meet new species and so much more. It was a gr-
"CANCEL INIT IMMEDIATELY. I SAID CANCEL!", Foster shouted through the Microphone. "TEAM EPSILON CANCEL NOW!" One of team Epsilon shouted: "WE CAN'T, START PARAMETERS ARE SET, THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO." Foster spoke into the Mic again: "GUYS, GET OUT OF THAT CHAMBER, NOW!" One of team Bravo said: "They can't. The init of the machine deadlocked the doors." "NICK. WE WILL FIND A WAY, DON'T WORRY!"
Heat was filling the room up and the rotor colour changed from a blue to a hot red. Multiple alarms began to go off and we just stood there, waiting for immediate death. I worried about my Mom and about what will happen when she gets to know what happened. I was worried about the whole town, who knows what is going to happen. The speakers outputted: "WARNING. HEAT LEVELS AT CRITICAL VALUES. EVACUATE THE FACILITY. CORE OVERHEATING IMMINENT."
With people trying to run and us just standing there. It was the worst scenario anyone could have imagined. And then it happend.
Our shielding lost power we were shot through the funnel, nearly unprotected. It was a horror scenario: Two of us were ripped apart and thrown out at random points of this "tunnel". Another one lost an arm and a leg. I got hit by a piece of metal and fell unconscious.
TOMORROW INC., TESLA CITY, BETA DIMENSION, 08:17 (8:17 am)
We all woke up, well, the remains of us in the same building. Everything was destroyed and besides our corpses... There were new ones. One half of a... Dog hybrid? Limbs with fur on them scattered throughout the room and me being the onliest survivor.
The carbon oxide in the air that was emitted from the fire made breathing a challenge. I knew I would die from asphyxiation any second. I heard people breaching the door and running down the staircase. Firemen and I guess some security guards. I heard one of them talking: "What the hell is this? I mean I heard rumors about humans but here? What happened?" I didn't hear anything furhter as I drifted into an seemingly endless sleep. Where sleep is a word that describes it certainly bad. You can't wake up and you feel the same pain inside your "dream world".
I didn't know if I was ever going to wake up. Or if I was already dead. I could only hope for the best. And being on the rim of death I can assure you: Science has its shadow side. We played with fire and here are the consequences. And me being the onliest survivor is the punishment.
New Grounds
Here's a quick note between the lines: The furry names written bold are existing ones. I am going to only write them bold once so you don't have that throughout the whole story. You can search for them on for example FurAffinity. Anyway, happy reading!
The onliest thing that came to my mind was the sound of the howling motor, coming probably from the ambulance I was in. Depends on the type of vehicle wherever I landed. I heard someone mumbling: "He's loosing blood. Can't you drive quicker?!" "Calm down Carrus , it's only four minutes away." I heard Carrus, who was apparently the driver, talking into his Walkie Talkie: "TCH, this is Unit two dash five, requesting main entrance free and an ER room including instant surgery, over." "Understood, main entrance will be free and operation will occur on arrival, over." "Thank you Command, over and out."
We drove and drove and those four minutes felt like an eternity. I never was really patient but since I am currently half-traumatizing in an ambulance in another world, I... Hang on. Did he say TCH? That's Tesla City's own Hospital. So instead of being in outer space this is just a parallel world? I mean still a step into a new dimension but a nearly equal one?
Tires screeched and the door was flung open. Laying there on a mobile bed, being carried towards the OP room and with nurses nervously following along. That is not fun I can tell you. "How much?", asked one of the nurses. The doctor took a look at his clipboard. "Fifty milligrams, if he doesn't, give him seventy-five." "Yes, sir." We nearly sprinted towards the metal doors that seperated the wings of this giant building. "Here it is. Let's put him down." They counted to three and I was lifted onto another table. As my body touched the metal bed I instantly felt my hips burning and my chest hurting. I got some worried looks from the assistants and the doctor said to me: "What have we here. Impressive. I knew that science could do something like that one day but a real human. Still easier to operate since we two are not far from equal."
I did want to save my energy but I had to ask: "Where the hell did I land? I mean probably a parallel universe but where." "As far as I heard from the scientists a signal was being sent from your side. Then the accident happened." "No, wait, we recieved a signal from you." I was confused. If they didn't distress that signal and we didn't either, then who did or who made us do that? Or even worse, have we got a leak in our systems?
The operation itself was very calm. I luckily didn't wake up in the middle of it and found myself in a very weird dream. I was sitting in Hyde Park, London and was having a picknick with my Dad. We were sitting there, laughing. He made a joke about Mom who suddenly sat there aswell. We looked at sights and as soon as we looked at Big Ben I knew something wasn't right. The clock spun way too fast and I realised, that I was dreaming. Helplessly trying to wake up, which didn't work. I thought to myself: "So this is what coma feels like."
We were back at our picknick and ate something. I did study some things about lucid dreaming and I managed to wish myself a very nice snack: Pizza. My god I love that stuff.
In the next moment I began to hear beeping. Continously. The dreamworld started to fade out and I found myself laying in a bed in a different dimension, in a parallel world and injured more than just major. I found a note:
"Since you are the onliest one who survived this and in case you wake up, please press the call button to let us know. We have enough time to ask each other out about the worlds but for know your healing process has a high priority.

Dr. Nick Sheffield"
My jaw dropped in femtoseconds and I was stunned. Not in a good way, more like in a very uncomfortable way."Well, I found me. And me found me. This is too much to think about for now", I said to myself. I pushed the call button and a nurse came into the room. "Tell Sheffield I am awake." "Do you need anything else? Water?", the nurse asked. "Sure, why not", I replied. She went off and told Dr. Sheffield, came back and put a bottle and glass of water on my table right next to me.
Dr. Sheffield began to speak: "So, since you know my name, why don't you tell me yours." I was hesitating at first but decided to not lie: "I am Doctor Professor Nick Sheffield from-" "London", the doctor ended my sentence: "I never thought I would meet my other me, heh." He slightly laughed when saying that and I couldn't hold this bad joke back: "Nice to meet me, sir." I had to giggle and we both shortly laughed.
"Now back to topic", I said: "I have read many things about you and I can only tell that you are the equivalent of humanity but in anthropomorphic form." "You are right. As you can see I am a Wolf. Wolfes are quite common but so are Canines and Cats. Then decending Horses, Sharks, many types of Reptiles and the more rare ones: The mixed. An example would be the Wolfcoon, you should figure out what type of being that is." "Wow", was the onliest thing I could say.
A nurse opened the door: "Dr. Sheffield, Room O-1 needs your attention." "Good, I will be there in a second. Pleasure to meet you Nick, but I have to go now. Maybe I'll see you around, a nurse will bring you something to sleep easier, bye." What? Sleep easier? How late was it. I looked at the clock on the wall and it was nearly night. How long did I pass away? A nurse came in and gave me some pills since my sleeping cycle had to be corrected. I fell into a comfortable and warming sleep, what I needed after this chaos.
3 DAYS LATER
"Good news, Nick, you are nearly good to go. Paperwork is the onliest thing preventing that. By noon you should be able to walk around healthy again. But don't be surprised by the looks some people will give you." I replied: "Don't worry doctor, I was always a weird one. You should have seen my clothing style when I was a teen." We had a short laugh and I asked him a question: "So, since our worlds are more or less the same, what happened around 1940 onwards?" "So, historically that was about the time when the Nazis were in germany." "I get it now! You know how people think time was a straight line? That is not really true. There are little changes, like our lives, I am professor, you doctor and time has only got fixed points like when you hold two ends of a rubber band and you can wobble it inbetween, I should write that down!" I took one heavy breath and said: "Well, my brain is fully functional again." "Seems like it. Anway, I'll be back at noon, try to rest and not think too much."
He went off and did his paperwork.
By the amount of bandages around me I think they did a really big job in terms of patching me up. I didn't had to worry about bandages though, since our health system is completely different in Tesla City. I am insured by working for the company, so they cover my... Medical bills. Yeah, I forgot, my indentity doesn't work in this universe. Perfect. But a try can't kill me, right?
Trouble at Tomorrow Inc.
It was noon and my other me entered the room: "Nick, I just need you to sign this and you are a free being again. That's wonderful news and thanks to Doctor Akaro Velmo we were able to renounce stitching." I was amazed: "How did you manage to get that far in medical history?" Doctor Sheffield replied: "He made a huge progress on medical research by finding a way to spped up cell regeneration." He handed me the papers and I signed them: "Time to take a look at the same new world then", I said a bit jokingly. "Hey, and don't get lost", Sheffield said with the same humorous voice. "Don't worry, I think I'm pretty confident with this place."
The second doctor Sheffield looked a little bit like me. With the difference of course that he was a grey wolf with yellow-green eyes and a slightly weird hairstyle. A bit spiky, more hanging hair. That is probably the type of standard hairstyles.
He left the room and I get detached from the various devices that stood besides me. Walking was a bit weird and wobbly at first, but it was all right. And my doppelganger was right: Many people just looked at me with the same confusion as I did look at them. Shit, I forgot that I was still wearing that blue hospital apron. Still better than being naked. So I went back into my room and got dressed. Nope, still got the surprised and weird looks. "That can get very funny", I said to myself.
I walked towards Jenny's Café and ordered a coffee. Like people have nothing better to do than stare at me and whisper something into each other's ear. "There we go, enjoy your coffee. And don't worry, that goes away", Jenny said. "Hm?", I replied. "That staring will go away, trust me. I saw worse." I didn't know if I was supposed to be flattered or sulky. "Thanks", I mumbled as I exited the café.
"Good, got my supply now what... Wait, yeah, I wanted to test my identity. Wow that sounds weird", was what I thought standing on Main Street with people just glaring and staring at me.
So I began my walk towards the company. We do have security restrictions but only inside the building. The surveillance of the city was very good, but visitors are always welcome at Tomorrow Inc.
I entered the big main hall and took a walk towards the well-known elevators. I pushed the button and stepped inside. I held my eye against the scanner and only heard an electrical voice say: "Warning. Identity not registered. Subject will be held in the cabin until Security takes the suspect in custody." The doors shut and I couldn't get out. So my question was answered: I apparently don't work in this universe.
"Seems like the wrong eye was in the wrong place, heh", I heard someone with a manly voice laughing. "Well, guys, you had your fun but open the door and let us go to our designated sections", the same person continued. One of the security staff trying to enter a pin on a keypad above the elevator buttons. "Doesn't work. Really great, isn't it." The manly voice spoke again: "I got a better idea." He then seemed to have walked away.
A moment or two later I heard footsteps on top of the very elevator cabin I was trapped in. I sighed and thought: "Oh, great. I just came here and know they already had to send in the fire department." The hatch opened revealing. Wow. I knever really knew if I was actually into women or men but that was. Just wow.
By the looks of it a Wolfcoon with Heterochromia eyes in blue and pink, blue fur around the eyes, spiky grey hair and a big fluffy tail coloured in blue and white stripes.
He jumped in and looked at me: "So you're the new human then. Nice to meet you by the way. Name's Akaro Velmo, thanks to you I made progress in my medical research." I just stood there and didn't bring out a word at first: "Nick, my name is, Sheffield. Doctor. Professor. Wow." I got a slightly confused but then realising look and a slight grin. I never felt like this ever. It was the weirdest thing.
"There we go", said Akaro as he convinced the retina scanner of his existence. I know, this always sounds better in your head. "Why don't you go by my lab and help me a bit. After of course I spend you a coffee and we can talk a bit more." Did he start flirting with me? "Sure, why not", I said and we walked over to the boss' office.
The doors opened revealing a very interesting person. A mainly darker shaded shark. He was very muscular, but not as strong as Akaro was.
So the shark introduced himself: "My name's Riptide. I was in the military before and got this offer since my leading skills were perfect for this job. My IQ might not be higher than 120 but thanks to my small cyborg side I am brilliant at multitasking, which comes in more than handy in this case."
Again. Me just being impressed. What is it with me today. I mean sure, whole 'nother world and stuff but really? Riptide continued: "So, I told you a lot about me, now tell me a little about you." I said: "Sure, so my name is Doctor Professor Nick Sheffield and I am from... Let's just call it the Alpha Dimension. And as you noticed there was a big accident around three or four days ago and so I came into yours. Logically the Beta Dimension. I was working on the project of Section 5 and had a breakthrough when, well, Doomsday happened."
Then Riptide spoke again: "Well then that means I will give you S5 access and a designated lab. As long as you're here you can-" "I'd like to work with Akaro", I interrupted. Said person just stood next me and exchanged looks with Riptide: "I don't have a problem with that, I could always use a hand." From Riptide came: "Sure, if you want to, then that's fine. So, assigning you to his lab and still giving you S1-S5 access, in case you need special resources." "Thank you very much", I replied and had to lay my finger on a scanner.
"That should be everything nearly done and now just a code and retina scan, then you got your job back." "Oh and Nick, if you don't midn you can stay at my place", said Akaro. "Thanks", was coming from me.
As we were done with everything we headed into Akaro's Lab. It was not that small and the equipment was really good. "Don't hesitate to use my instruments and equipment and don't forget the coffee!", he said as he walked out to get some materials. I was sitting on his stool and using his PC. If I really want to survive in this world I have to check if Amazon Instant still works here.
But in the end I knew that I would stay a little longer. And I wouldn't mind that so much...
Coffee and Shower
I was still sitting in Akaro's Lab. These stools were quite comfortable. I mean he is very kind and...
The door opened: "I'm back, got some samples from Section 5. Why don't we start trying to figure out what happened?" "Sounds good", I nearly instantly replied. I got carried away there in the thought.
He gave me a Petri dish. My emotion went from normal to sad. I looked at the remains of my fellow collegues and friends as well as innocents. Then I got over with it and layed the content onto a small strip and did the usual procedure of analysing.
"You shouldn't give yourself the fault for what happened." He was so understanding to me and I dind't even say anything: "I know, but I had the idea and I encouraged the whole project and was a part of it happening." "You just did what you did every day and no one could know that this would happen." "Thank you, forgot to say that." "Thank you for..." "Caring. Usually I walk my way to the elevator, taking quick glances at other workers to see what they wear or do, go and hide in my Lab and let my assistant bring me coffee. Not many really cared what exactly I did and other than Edward I had no one to talk about things." "Who was Edward?" "He was my assistant. He stood in the control room. Oh my god. I don't know if he survived."
Silence filled up the room. "Anyway, that's one more reason to find out what the hell happened there", I said encouragingly. "No problem, I generally care for people", said Akaro.
Right, let's see what happened to us. Maybe we were radiated or worse. Maybe I am going to mutate, heh. That really wasn't a moment of laughter. I saw that most of the flesh of the others got burned. Since the shield lost power only I was protected. Still got hit by debris though.
"Quickly note the following: Burnt flesh, exposure to a great heat source and straight cut markings."
Akaro had a question: "So, what did it look like?" "What exactly do you mean?" "You came here somehow. Was it just a light or..." "Oh, right. It was like a tunnel or funnel. The shield was only protecting me so the others either got burnt or drifted outside the tunnel. No one knows these parts of them went." "Got any theories?" "I think that our universes are seperated by a line. With space inbetween. So wherever the ones who flew out of the tunnel went, it must be a place between the universes. I don't want to imagine what that would look like."
"Wow. Sounds quite scary. But you can be happy to have survived." "Happy? I was nearly killed and lost many people I liked. I feel excellent!" We both had to laugh. I said: "Well, other than the things I told you there are no other visible signs of damage. And I don't think that this really explains what exactly happened to the machine." "Right. You know what, you need a break." "Do I?" "Yes. I told you I was going to invite you to a coffee at Jenny's. So grab your stuff and get off your arse." I smiled and we walked to the elevator.
As we stepped out on the main floor we struddled towards the entrance. It was a sunny day with a slight cold breeze. Actually my favourite weather. So continuing towards the city we talked a bit: "So, Akaro, where do you live?" "24 Einstein Street. You?" "23 Adams Street. Does anyone live there?" "Yeah, I think your... Doppelganger? Doctor Sheffield is he you?" "Yeah, I know that this sounds really weird." "Good think I offered you to stay at my place then." "Can't believe I found someone so nice." "We're there", said Akaro with a calm voice.
We stepped inside and took a seat. We continued our conversation. He asked me: "So. How exactly is it where you come from. I mean are there big differences?" "Well, besides the fact that we are a whole community of humans and you are a whole community of anthropomorphic animals, no, everything is pretty much the same. Same wars, same cities and all that." "You can call us furries in the shorter form if you like. We don't really mind that. In our world people argue about if we either, were born when the first humans paired with animals or if we were just born like this." I can't just fall in love with random people I just met. And I mean he is a male being. But he is so kind aswell. Forgot the pain I had in that ambulance, my emotions make my stomach go wild at the moment.
After we exchanged some infos and had a chat we went back. I asked him if I could go home already since I felt a bit weird. He gave me his secondary keys and I went towards 24 Einstein Street.
24 EINSTEIN STREET, TESLA CITY, BETA DIMENSION, 14:26 (2:26 pm)
I opened the door and flung myself onto the couch. I thought: "Hey, why not" and turned the TV on. They had similar shows to ours. Wow, even Coronation Street was running. But I never watched that sort of stuff. I was always a Doctor Who fan. And the show kinda inspired me to go for science. But here I am in another Dimension. I took the long way, pft. Who needs a TARDIS if you have this City.
5 HOURS LATER
I decided to take a long redeeming shower. Letting all the warm water stroll over my body. I really needed that. The shower was the place where my ideas have their roots. It's where I get creative.
I heard a door opening, someone dropping groceries. Akaro, are you home?
"Shit, who is that", was my first thought. Then I heard Akaro coming through the door aswell: "Hi bro, I'm here. I took the day off since I am exhausted." "Have you heard the rumor about the new human?" As I was walking out of the bathroom I got a glare like no one had ever stared at me. "Wow! A... Whoah. I mean I hear and see many things but this! Amazing! Nice to meet you, I'm Arctic!" He walked towards me and shook my hands. I said: "Hi, Nick Sheffield is my name. But you can call me Nick." "Very nice to meet you, Nick." Akaro walked into the kitchen and began putting the groceries into the fridge." I followed the two and was a bit nosey: "So, are you two friends or..." They both laughed: "We are more than just some friends", said Arctic. I was a bit surprised and asked further: "Oh, so you're in a relationship." Again, they laughed as Akaro said: "We are brothers. Well, kind of. Same mom, different father. Our mom died when Arctic was born. I am 22, he is 19. But we both once had a boyfriend, turned out we were dating the same one, haha." Good, that was a bit weird at first but nothing compared to what I went through.
Me being even more nosey: "What happened then?" Arctic continued: "Well, let's just say we all ended up in one bed, but that is a story for another time." Alright, even weirder. But still, nothing can beat the leap, no, jump I did for humanity. Or the remains of them, at least of my fellow colleauges.
I don't know why, but these two really interested me: "Arctic, if you have time this weekend you can tell me the story. Only if you like of course." "Quite a nosey one, eh?", said Akaro walking towards the bathroom. Arctic looked and smiled at me: "So. Do you like him?" I was a bit surprised by this perplex question. Seems like here they go quicker at it than in our world.
"Maybe. I don't know. We were drinking a coffee today and I analysed some samples for him." Arctic smiled even more at me: "You did what? How was it?" "OH, you mean-" "Yeah." "-No, not these kind of samples. Samples from the incident. Oh and he rescued me out of an elevator." "What? How did that happen?" "Well, I forgot that I don't exist in this universe and so did the retina scanner notice. Boom, doors locked, system faulty, won't open, he climbed onto it and opened the door for me." "What did you do then?", Arctic wanted to know.
"Well we went to Riptide. I got my identity back and- Everything okay?" Arctic seemed a bit absent. "Arctic, everything all right?" "Sure, sure it's just... I got a crush on Riptide since he employed me." "Why don't you ask him out for a date then?" "He isn't playing in my league. Look at me being normal, skinny, him being muscular and all that." "I am confident in you. Go and just ask him. There is nothing bad that could happen."
Akaro came back from the bathroom: "So, did you two chit-chat?" Arctic grinned and I said: "Oh yes, we did." I followed Akaro into the kitchen and asked him subtly: "Is it normal that in your world people ask things or do things straight on without a big talk?" "Why that? I mean, sure, we are comfortable in these terms of things and don't hide too much behind all those thoughts and feelings, but why are you asking?" "Just asking." "C'mon, there has to be a reason." "Arctic asked me if I liked you in a more than friends way." Akaro smiled and asked: "Do you?" I took the advantage of the situation and went off with quite a cheeky answer: "Maybe", I said smiling and walking back to the couch.
The rest of the evening was really just watching TV and eating popcorn. We watched something on Netflix and I was quite entertaining. After that Arctic offered me: "Nick?" "Yeah?" "You don't have to sleep on the couch tonight if you want. You can sleep in my room if you like, my bed's big enough." Akaro smiled: "Look who's going first." He laughed a bit: "See, Arctic was always the one the get someone in his bed first." "LIAR", shouted Arctic. "Guys, guys, don't argue over me." "You're right", said Akaro: "But it's not a good idea to sleep in my bed, just as a quick note." "Why that? Are you hiding corpses under your bed or..." Akaro looked at me: "I sleep mainly naked."
For a moment I just sat there, silently. Slowly turning my head to the right: "Arctic, guess who's going to sleep in your bed tonight!" He made a quick 'win' motion with his arm and whispered: "Yes!" Akaro just sat there looking at the TV, munching popcorn and smiling slightly.
After the movie was over we all went to bed. Me and Arctic talked a bit about each other's worlds and I encouraged him to go after his wishes. Then we turned away from each other, as we only knew each other for a couple of hours and fell asleep.
Get two embarassingMoments for one!
I woke up with an arm around my waist and a hand on my chest. I also felt something else... Was that. Uhm. I don't quite know how to describe it, but. Arctic's morning wood seems to push against my back. I slowly moved towards the rim of the bed. But Arctic didn't let go of me. Wow people can be strong while they sleep.
Akaro opened the door and looked at me. With my mouth I partially whispered H-E-L-P. Akaro clapped his hands and shouted: "Wake up, Bro!" Arctic opened his eyes and stared directly into mine: "Morning. Quite a happy morning isn't it, Akaro?" I bumped into their conversation: "The morning's apparently not the onliest 'happy' thing." Arctic got a red face: "Oops, sorry for that. I forgot to say that I am the type of person who cuddles while asleep."
Akaro just stood there with crossed arms and smiled. We all got up and I got ready in the bathroom. The other two showered. To my surprise they seem to have showered together. I cooked breakfast as I heard them coming out of the bathroom: "And you did what, haha. Good job on that." "Didn't do it on purpose, Akaro." "Oh was your grope five minutes ago not on purpose aswell?" "Don't feel so confident just because you got a 10-" "Morning", I interrupted them as they didn't seem to notice that I was in the kitchen. "Morning!" They shouted. "And what exactly was that about the 10..." Arctic smiled and prevented Akaro from talking: "Oh, that was just... A sandwich we talked about. Subway now makes 10 inch sandwiches."
I mean I knew what they really meant with that but I didn't really bother to know more about that.
So after breakfast we all walked to the company. Arctic was an Astrotechnician like me but he worked in Section 3. We parted ways when the elevator stopped in our designated sections and me and Akaro headed to the lab.
As I sat down I took a look at some documents and he was busy writing reports. My curiosity rose once again: "So, Akaro." "Hm?" "What was that about the 10 incher again?" "You probably figured it out already." "Well if I may quote you: 'Was your grope five minutes ago not on purpose aswell?'"
"Many people are a bit scared because of that. I mean it is a scary length if you think about it."
The conversation was not awkward since it was held so... neutral. No smile, grinning or big laughing when saying these sentences which was really cool. Humans just don't tend to be so relaxed about this stuff. Akaro asked: "Did you guess Arctic's?" "How do you think would I be able to do that?" "Well he obiously greeted you in a different kind of way this morning so you must have a guess." "Good. I guessed it around 7 or 8." Akaro grinned and smiled: "He actually has 9." Right, so that's the next thing on my exploration list if I ever went back. Let me check... Direct approach on each other, open about sexual conversations. This world is made for me. And it certainly changed me from being the shy one in his lab to the one laying in other's beds and having bulges pushed against me. Wow I should really stop thinking.
"Found something", I kind of barked out as I read through the files: "System fault cause: Overheating of Fusion Core of the teleporter. Override was activated remotely. That means someone hacked our system." "Impossible", said Akaro: "We have more firewalls and security algorythms than all the security companies combined. Our research is protected more than a National Bank." "But that means we had a..." "Spy." We looked a bit shocked and I wanted to report to Riptide: "Akaro, I'll go up to the chef office and report to Riptide. Need anything?" "A relationship, one billion dollars and a yacht." I didn't know that he had american roots. Interesting what you find out about people on the go. He continued: "And after a long time a partner again..." Before I got out of the Lab I answered cheekily: "I don't thing I would mind sleeping in the other bed tonight."
As I walked out a shot of emotions rushed through me. Thoughts:
"What did I just say?"
"But he is so cute!"
"I can't do that."
"Has Arctic really got a 9 incher?
OUCH. I bumped into someone: "Sorry, are you ok?", asked a relatively young Husky with white and blue and dark fur. I seem to keep meeting so many nice looking people. Again, what the hell is happening to me? Love? Desperation? Distraction?
"And you really are ok?", the Husky asked again. I stood there for a bit just not talking.
"Sure I am. My name's Nick, what is yours?" " Flite. You can either call me that or Wusky."
"Nice to meet you, Flite. In which are does your work lay?", I wanted to know.
"A bit complicated. You know how fast the elevators go?", Flite asked me.
"No, but they must go quite a speed I guess."
"Well, I am the kind of guy who makes it appear slower but actually run faster."
"That is... Impressive. Hey, if I ever get a car can you do the same with it?"
"Sure, after we had lunch and dinner together and talked a bit more."
Again, are people here just constantly flirting with each other?
"Can do. See you around, Flite."
I went into the elevator and pushed the button to go up. I walked out and saw all the busy individuals taking their paths through the building. I went up a little staircase and stood in front of the door as I heard... panting? Someone was heavily breathing. A chair fell over. I think someone needs help!
"DON'T WORRY HELP IS. ON. Its. Way", I shouted as I stormed into the office. Arctic was sitting on Riptides stomach and they both seem to have kissed each other very intense. Judging by the bulges they had I didn't have to see the worst part. Well, the worst from my point of view. They put their clothes back on and Arctic left the office. With red cheeks. Wow, I actually, uh. Helped someone I guess. But that doens't help what I just saw there. Anyway at least they weren't naked.
"Nick, got any progress?" "Arctic seems to have made progress", I whispered. I saw a slightly embarrassed look on his face. "It's okay, I encouraged him to ask you out for a date, he fell in love with you quite a while ago. But that was very straight on." "Yeah, sorry, if I want to be I can get quite passionate. Anyway, have you made progress?"
"I actually did. Someone hacked the system and caused the power source to overheat. So whoever did that, he wanted to not cross the line between our worlds."
"That is not good. We have the biggest security system on this planet and we get hacked?"
"Not only your side did, we got too. So either someone already had a link between the systems..."
"Or?" "Or we have two spies, each on one side which communicated with each other to do so simultaneously."
"That sounds even worse."
"Anyway, Ripitide. Hang on a second."
I walked towards the door and punched it at about Arctic's head heigth. I heard an "OUCH" and I opened the door. "So, yeah, see you around Riptide and Arctic." "What?" "Your bed is free for this night." "And you want to tell me whaat exaactlyy?", said Arctic with a strechty voice.
"You know exactly what I mean. And you guys! Don't be too loud!"
I left the very room while saying that sentence and again, the shot of thoughts:
"What is happening to me?"
"Sure they take that stuff more relaxed but. Me?"
AKARO'S LAB, TESLA CITY, BETA DIMENSION, 11:15 (11:15 am)
"Where have you been for the past ten minutes?"
"Seen something I shouldn't have", I said sitting down on the chair.
"Tell me. I am very curious if it's about that stuff."
"Well, let's just see encouraging Arctic showed a result."
"I hear?"
"Let's just say he was sitting ontop of Riptide, on the floor, shirtless and kissing each other."
"I can really annoy my bro with that later."
"Well, about that..."
"Hm?" "I told you I was okay with sleeping in your bed, right?"
"And?" "And I kinda hinted Arctic that his bed was free tonight."
"I promise if they are too loud, then I will silence them, don't worry", said Akaro with a cheeky grin.
I sort of knew what that meant but wouldn't that make them even louder? Anyway back to work now.
24 EINSTEIN STREET, TESLA CITY, BETA DIMENSION, 17:56 (5:56 pm)
Akaro and me went and ate something at the dinner. We went inside the house and I got under the shower, since I was a bit smelly. After me went Akaro and we watched TV.
"Do you know what Doctor Who is?"
"Not really. Why? Is that a show in your world?"
Apparently Doctor Who didn't exist in this world. But luckily I went off and got Flite to help me with a little device. A portable, undangerous funnel device that establishes a certain type of connection between our worlds. I just think at this point of time I didn't want to go back yet. I wanted to stay in here for a bit longer. See what I can find out and do valuable research.
"What the hell are you holding in your hand?", asked Akaro with a worrying voice.
"Literally a universal Internet box. Or formerly known as a mobile funnel Television device. Undangerous."
"Hopefully. But why did you make it anyway?"
"I want to watch Doctor Who with you. You'll love the show."
"You can watch it with Flite, he is more the Scifi guy."
"You know each other?", I wanted to know curiously.
"Remember about the guy I told you who ended up with me and Arctic in one bed?"
"Really? ", was all that came from me. A nod from Akaro's side was a clear yes.
"I mean, I can understand why you both like him."
Akaro had a cheeky look on his face: "A-h-a."
"From a neutral point of view, of course."
I plugged the Funnel Device in and... Nothing. It just didn't work.
"Wonderful, what do we do now?"
"Night bowling is an option", said Akaro. Yeah, I forgot that Tesla has its own Bowling Center.
"Sure, why not."
So we went off and walked towards the Bowling Center. On the way there we met Arctic and Riptide walking hand in hand. Akaro left a comment: "And hey, Arctic. Try to not leave too many stains."
Wow. If I had these types of friends, boredom wouldn't exist in my life.
Caught in the Act
"YES! All ten! Wohoo!", I shouted happily as I threw the bowling ball and hit every pin. Strike, I know what it's called. The bowling game was a very nice distraction and afterwards we went to the pub and had a few drinks. I was worried though since I can get a bit more... Open, if I had a drink or two.
After all this we went back home. Akaro rolled his eyes and I looked towards Arctic's room as we both heard moaning and panting. "They really are going at it, aren't they", joked Akaro. I just stood there for a second and got lost. I mean you know that moment when you stare at a point in a room and just get carried away and fade out your surrounding.
Akaro tapped my shoulder and said: "Well, if you are staring so much up there why don't you go and say hello or even join in." "No thanks I like my guts where they are supposed to be."
"If you want to sleep you can go up and I will make a nice and short process with the two lovebirds."
"Don't worry, I managed to fall asleep in louder situations."
I went ahead and drank a water and some Coca Cola and sat down on the couch. Akaro sat down besides me: "So. Have you ever had..."
"Once." "I hear?" Akaro seemed so interested in these things. He seemed interested in me. That was one of the first times that someone really took care of me.
"I was still a teen and my buddy had, you know, one of these ideas."
"All right, I can make out the rest. My first time was on a toilet inbetween the lessons. We had a freshmen, that was when I was in America, and he really tried to hook up with me. Well we ended up on the toilet and you can surely make the rest out aswell."
Arctic and Riptide seemed to still go on with whatever they did up there and here and there we joked about the two. As we heard one last and loud joyful moan, the humping seems to have stopped.
Akaro commented: "Normally Arctic lasts longer but hey, it's his love of life and I can understand that."
Riptide walked out of the room and gave Arctic a kiss. As he walked by he said: "Hey guys! See you tomorrow. You can come a bit later, so around nine o'clock. Bye." And with that he walked out. Arctic was standing there with a phantasizing look on his face and only in his undies.
He walked downstairs and sat down on the couch: "Never had so much fun..."
Akaro joked: "Apropos coming late. What happened there you normally last longer, don't you?"
"Yeah, but he was just amazing. You should have seen him. Well, next time maybe."
I looked at the wall rather than the TV and said: "Well, I think I am a bit tired. I'll go to bed."
They both said goodnight to me and I went up to Akaro's bedroom. Even though Arctic's bed seemed free again I would rather sleep with someone who is naked than in a puddle of stains.
I am definitely changing. Was it the machine or is it just me?
Who am I going to be after two or three days. I don't know. But maybe this just brings out my actual personality. The passionate side of me, the cheering and joyful one. I have no idea what is happening but I don't really mind it.
IN THE MORNING
I woke up alone. Akaro's already in the kitchen and Arctic's taking a shower. I came down the stairs:
"Morning."
"Hey Nick, slept well?"
"Kind of. Got a lot going on with me at the moment."
"How do you mean that?"
"I feel like I am changing. But I don't know if it's for the good or bad."
"I know exactly what you mean. By the way. Riptide and Arctic are going out for dinner tonight and I wanted to ask you if you wanted to join in."
I had to think for a moment but I agreed: "Sure, why not, sounds great! Like a double date, hehe."
I was sitting besides him and noticed his cheeks turning slightly pink.
"I mean, not really a date, but. Only if you want it to be a date."
Akaro looked at me: "Date sounds fine to me."
We looked heavily into each other's eyes. Our heads got closer and we seem to have lost us. Mouths about to touch a door flung open: "GOOD MORNING!", shouted Arctic stepping proudly out of the bathroom. "So, you two eh?"
"What? No, that was just. He had something on his muzzle", I tried to talk myself out.
Arctic smiled and continued: "Sure, one second later and your lip would have been on his muzzle."
We had breakfast and went back to the company. Another 'usual' day I guess. I knew that from now on my life would change rather for the good, than for the bad...
The Kiss

We sat in Akaro's Lab. Me on a computer writing an algorythm to trace back the interference and him. I don't know, probably tweeting, reading or doing something else. So I asked him: "What are you doing?" "Me? I am just checking my reports over again. You?" "I am writing an algorythm to trace back the interference." "I know this is a bit perplex to say but I like it when you talk like that."
"You have no idea how sexier I can make this sound."
Quick recap: I am in a parallel universe, my friends died with only me surviving. I am sitting in my date's Lab and flirting being unsure about my sexuality and having one of the cutest people on this planet sitting in the same room with me. I think I can guess myself pretty happy.
"You remember Arctic's interference?" said Akaro.
"Sure. But the signal's clear now."
We smiled at each other and I shared a stool with him.

He took a remote and pushed a button. From an empty space a couch rose up from the ground.

"Thanks, I got it when I was with Flite. He isn't only good in these types of Hydraulics though.

Flite and I walked down the corridor towards his workspace and we talked:
"So, Flite. I found out you had a hot night with the brothers?"
"Not so loud. All right, it was an awkward situation."
"We got time, tell me what happened."
"It was shortly after I broke up with Akaro. He was sitting in Arctic's bathroom, don't ask why, and he was a bit upset. You know, no sex and he had his needs. Riptide asked me a question: "Since when have you two started dating?"
I answered: "This morning". Arctic just nodded agreeingly.
"And the best thing didn't happen yet."
"Then how about you tell us", Arctic wanted to know.
"We were making out in Akaro's Lab and Flite walked in."
"Oooh, that must have been quite embarrassing", said Arctic.
"Not for me, but for Akaro surely", I said afterwards.
The evening was quite nice and we finished eating. Arctic went over to Riptide's place and I had planned something a little bit evil but passionate. You can look at Akaro as more of a sex machine, as far as I can judge him. I'm kinda the opposite.
