Part 10-6
Family reunion
Kyo
I stand still, throwing cautious glances all around me, taking slow, prudent steps, making sure I'm not squashing someone down, keeping my tail low, preventing it from swaying, my wings tucked against my sides. I'm stuck; we are stuck in a dense colorful crowd slowly inching closer to a large gate opening on an immense room of which I can only distinguish the far end. All around us, trapping us in the flow, humans, dozens, hundreds of them walking at a slow pace toward the same direction, a colorful swarm moving as one, slaloming between my paws as if I wasn't even existing. Well… as one would be exaggerated, it was more like a torrent of people going in all directions, guests stopping to salute one or have a talk in the middle of the hall, servants going everywhere, slithering in the constantly shifting stream of people, taking orders, carrying things and transmitting messages, showing an incredible dexterity and agility, sometime maneuvering with incredible agility, carrying heavy plates with several glasses onto them without breaking one or even spilling a drop of their content, offering them to whoever wanted one. The noises, their constant blabbers, their perfumes blended together were giving me a headache. And here I was, stuck in the middle of them, not even daring to move a paw, feeling them brush or bump against my scales, some even shyly rubbing my hide on their way, most of them however preferring to keep their distances. Allen had opted to climb on my back, comfortably sitting between two spikes, keeping a proud and noble attitude. Tarken was in pretty much the same situation, standing right next to me, carrying Kyle who lazily leaned back against his dragon's neck. "What a mess…" I huffed, already tired of moving through the sprawling swarm of chatting humans. "We should have come a bit sooner." approved Allen. "Or later… it depends." retorted Kyle.
"I wasn't expecting the emperor to invite so many guests… damn the whole capital must be here tonight! He has a lot of friends." I mumbled, blushing when a few humans went underneath me, making their way between my paws, under my belly, their hats or hairs tickling my sensitive scales, some of them pinching their noses, ranting in disgust. "Hehe I think your musk isn't to their liking." chuckled Allen, throwing the nobles an apologetic smile. "They can go eat my cock…" I huffed when they were gone, slamming a paw in the floor, scaring a few stranger soldiers who quickly moved out of my way. "I wouldn't call them friends" huffed Tarken, stepping ahead of me, padding toward the doors, a servant rushing through the crowd, making large gestures with his hands toward us, urging us to follow him as guards stepped in, parting the crowd in half, creating us a large corridor for us to walk through without injuring anyone. "They are no friends. Trust me Kyo I've been in that kind of places and events and I can tell you without a shadow of doubt that all these people may not even be acquaintances to the emperor but they all have a thing in common, they have money, influence, and a thirst for power and glory. Some are only here to create alliances, negotiate things, make arrangements and business in general. Some represent other allied countries and only come to show themselves, display their power and wealth in public and stay in the good graces of the emperor; there are only a few peoples are truly concerned… well… everyone is but… at different level but only… about a fifth of them are here for the same thing as us." sighed Tarken as we entered. I froze, eyes going wide, my jaws dropping in shock, finding myself in a marvelous beauty, a room so enormous I wondered how it didn't collapse under it's sheer weight, the ground made of bare, but polished slick black marble, thin gold draws crimped in the floor, forming one massive draw only visible from miles above, the walls climbing high, the ceiling reaching over ten meters high, all made of transparent glass displaying the night sky, the full moon and the thousands of stars flickering in the dark space. Golden chandeliers dangled from the roof basking the room in a dim warm light, a mix of candles and glowing crystals, large shiny gems sending colorful reflections everywhere. Tall statues were keeping watch over the crowd, representing many different creatures or people of different ages, some dressed in armors, or robes, holding their weapon of choice, or standing half-naked, displaying perfectly sculpted bodies, strong, muscular chests and abs. There were also some majestic, mythical beasts, dragons and more towering over the rest, dominating the rest with their sheer size and apparent might.
I squinted my eyes, focusing on one statue in particular, made of black onyx, displaying a dragon sitting on his haunches, his ruby-made eyes staring at me with… some… deviousness, a slightly perverted look… as if he was alive. A cocky grin brightening his face. I noticed one of his forepaws placed at a weird angle, a claw pointing down. I followed it. "Show off" I chuckled, pealing my eyes away "mine is bigger." I added, taunting the rock dragon like he would answer to me. "Kyo… you have no self-restrain." sighed Allen. "Hey it's not my fault if the guy who made this… thing… decided to gift it with such a small dick." I growled. "Stop feasting your eyes on his endowment then." hissed Tarken, a thick membranous wing falling over my eyes "it's not the time to grow a boner in public." "As long as you don't tease me." I grunted, wiggling out of under his wing, nuzzling his neck, playing with his scales. "You don't need me to be a horny drake; it's in your nature." "Says who?" huffed Kyle, glaring at Tarken in anger. "Oh be quiet I'm not complaining about your own lustful fantasies you little pervert." "What?" gasped Allen, a mix of shame, embarrassment and surprise rushing in our bond. "Really?" mumbled my rider, trembling nervously. "You have no idea of what can come into his mind." chuckled Tarken, eying his rider with a taunting look, eyes slightly glazed with lust. "Quit it you pervert lizard." growled Kyle "if you dare to spill another word I swear on all the gods that I will rip your fucking cock and balls and make you eat them!" roared Kyle, hands latched onto one of Tarken's horns, yanking his whole head back at an upward angle, eliciting a high-pitched squeal from his dragon. I bared my fangs, a deep growl welling up in my throat, rage blooming in my veins. "Hey take it easy Kyo." whispered Allen, his soft hands fondling my hide. "Sorry…" I mumbled, cooing deeply "he deserved it anyway." "I'd be curious to know what he is thinking about." admitted Allen… a bit too loud. "If only you did." sniggered Tarken, grinning toothily "but I'll let you know that it concerns you almost all the time." "Oh that's cute." we exclaimed in perfect sync. "Quit it you two." grumbled Kyle, looking the other way, his face turning a crimson red.
"Kyo could you…?" whispered Allen in my head. "Certainly" I nodded, nudging myself closer to Tarken, canning my neck back, looking as Allen reached out, planting a loving kiss on Kyle's face "don't be ashamed; I'm thinking about you a lot actually." let out Allen, only deepening Kyle's blush. "They're adorable aren't they?" chuckled Tarken with envy "wish they'd leave us display our love in public." "Yes… it's a shame that we have to hold back." I moaned, cringing, something slick caressing my slit. "Tarken…" I hissed, stiffening another moan "you're such a tease!" "That’s why you love me." he giggled, nibbling at my chin. "Wait until we're back in the room. I'm gonna rip you apart!" I hissed "You'll be bouncing on my cock before you even get the chance to subdue me." "Oh no Kyo, this time you will be on the bottom." he growled, gently bumping against me, his tail noisily slapping my rear. "That's why we don't let you express your love in public." grumbled Allen, interrupting us "because it always gets naughty."
I looked down, stepping away, keeping some distance between me and Tarken. A servant rushed to us, carrying a heavy plate in one hand. "Would you like to drink something?" "No thank you" we replied one after the other "may I suggest you to go to your assigned table before all the other guests come in?" he offered, gesturing toward the doors from which a continuous flow of humans kept pouring in the room, scattering around, exploring, wandering around or staying there chatting. "Bright idea." I approved, relieved. "Could you please climb off of your beast?" he asked politely. "Certainly." aproved Allen, agilely jumping from my back, sliding along one of my extended wing, soon joined by Kyle. "Do you wish to stay with your… mounts or…" added the servant. "Have some respect for us, we're more than mounts so don't disrespect us if you wish to keep a head on your shoulders." I growled, lowering my snout to his level, parting my maw, exposing my long sharp fangs, tongue dashing out, wetting my lips in anticipation; the man jumping back in fright, dropping his plate, glasses shattering on the floor, alcohol cascading on the servant's suit, soaking it in deep with the syrupy liquid, the foreign flavor of alcohol waffling at my nostrils. "My apologies great dragon… I didn’t mean to offend you." he mumbled, trying to keep his composure, his face crumbling in terror. "And to answer your question we would like to stay with them." intervened Allen. "Please follow me then." he let out, wiping the sweat of his forehead.
Soon we were sitting around a long rectangular table on one of the sides of the immense dining room, me facing Tarken, Allen sitting next to me, in the exactsame configuration. For now we were the only ones occupying the table but judging from the number of plates they were expecting more guests… lots of dragons. We didn't talk much, all of us observing our surroundings, analyzing each face we saw, each unusual thing that crossed our sights. No one dared to speak it out loud but we were all nervous, apprehending the moment when the rest of the summoned dragons would come and join us. More than the others I was anxious, throwing worried glances toward the door. "Relax Kyo he's gonna come eventually." sighed Allen, his hand rubbing my side, trying to appease the turmoil in my heart with sadly little effect. Where was he? Why was he taking so long? Did something bad happen to him? Was he gone again? Kidnapped, taken away from me? No… no it couldn't be! Not in the very core of the empire, probably the most protected place of the empire. "Where are you Alckor?" I whispered, my snout dropping low, tears welling in my eyes, fear and worries gripping my heart in a freezing cold steel embrace. "Don't worry Kyo he isn't far; I'm sure he hasn't seen time fly by." softly whispered Tarken, reaching over the table, nuzzling me affectionately, his touch adding to the comforting rubs lavished by Allen. "Or just like all of you lecherous drakes he is pawing off in his room." grumbled Kyle. "It's a possibility." I admitted, closing my eyes, letting their soft hands, snout and whatever they touched me with cuddle me in their affection. But behind my closed eyelids another show was going on, lewd pictures appearing before my eyes, displaying my little brother on his back, his belly exposed in plain view, a cocky grin plastered on his face, lust-glazed eyes staring at me as his paw teased the head of his erect cock, smearing the beads of precum it squirted down his thick shaft and; right underneath his little tailhole, red star in the darkness of his scales was gaping wide, the taut ring puffing out, begging to be filled, demanding me to pry him even wider. "You're gross Kyo!" roared a too familiar deep voice, its anger ragging in my mind, a true hurricane of distilled fury about to be unleashed upon me.
In the blink of an eye all tge lewd pictures were gone, my eyes opening, only to send me the image of a miniature storm made of dark clouds expending in all direction, energy, like lightning sparkling from him, two crimson red eyes piercing me with their burning gaze. Where there was nothing an instant ago Kaos is now standing, towering over me, imposing respect from his presence alone. "He seems pissed off." mumbled Tarken "what did you do this time?" "I can't believe you have such perverted ideas in that disgusting mind of yours!" barked Kaos, smoke puffing from where his maw supposedly was "how depraved and twisted are you Kyo? Who the hell thinks about mating his own brother?!" he yelled, showering my mind with a punishing rain of anger, pain rippling through every fiber of my being. "Don't tell me you just did what he said you did." gasped Allen, petrified in awe. "Well I… kinda imagined it." "Imagined it! You were freaking wanting him and don't try to deny I felt your desire." "Don't blame him I find his brother kinda handsome… and hard to resist on top of that" replied Tarken, coming to my rescue. "You two are gonna make me throw up." sighed the old demon, turning his gaze away. "Chill out; I’m not gonna do it; I'm just… imagining things. I can't help it." "Still that's some disgusting thought Kyo, does your lust has any boundaries?" "Haven't found them yet." I chuckled, a provoking smile curling my lips. Kaos only grunted, facing the other way. "I hope you will control yourself this time." he hissed after a few minutes of silence. "Hey it wasn't my fault!" I screamed, vigorously protesting "how could I know someone had placed a drug in the food?" "Knowing you Kyo you wouldn't have needed it to end up with your tail raised." chuckled Tarken. "Shut up!" I huffed grumpily. "Oh my you're a bit touchy toniggt." giggled my mate provokingly. "It's just… you know I don't like edging…" "Still mad at me for teasing you a bit?" chirped Tarken, eyebrows wavering maliciously "that's only fair after the ordeal I went through with you this morning." "Does the conversation always has to be sex oriented?" sighed Allen, looking to the ceiling in disbelief. "For once I'm not the one who brought it up!" I exclaimed. "quiet all of you." growled Kyle "they are coming" he warned, pointing at the door.
I turned around, hope shining bright into my eyes. Sadly instead of my brothear I discovered another person, still a nice one to see but not the ome I so dierly wanted. A group of dragons entered one after the other in the rom, looking in all directions until one spotted us, the colorful band closinh in while their riders jumped from their backs. My face brightened with a smile, my gaze going over all those friednly faces I hadn’t seen in a while. Springing onto my paws I rushed for them, giving each of them a welcoming nuzzles. "Zehyr! Zarakay! Long time no see. How are you two doing?" I enquired, giving the tall bulky red drake and the smaller but handsome silver one a frantic hug. "Pretty well and you." they replied, answering to the affection. Then came a stranger band more distant one I was still glad to se. "Darkan! How have you been?" I shouted, holding the wingless sylvan dragon close to my chest, his scaled frame squirming in embarrassment. "Hi Kyo." he simply replied, looking up to me with his leaf-green eyes "oh my you've grown bigger? You've been working out or something?" I chuckled, probing at hit visibly thicker and tauter muscles. "A bit…" he admitted "glad you noticed."
A few other dragons arrived, some of which I had never seen but… there was still someone missing.
I came back to my place, between Allen and Kaos who decided to stick around for a bit. Conversations started between dragons and humans all over the table, soon covering the other sounds, loud bursts of laughter succeeding to cheerful shouts and chirrs. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, smiling and laughing frantically, happy to be with the others, joy painted on their face. I was smiling to but it felt empty… devoid of sense, of conviction. "Where can you be Alckor?" I whispered, keeping an eye glued to the entrance, hoping, wishing, wanting to see him appear there, in the middle of the compact crowd. "Kyo" sighed Kao, coiling around me, a shadow-made snake wrapping all over me, his ghostly presence sending shivers down my spine, trying to reasure me as best as he could "he isn't far; just leave him some time." "I- I know it's just… I… I don't want to risk loosing him again… I don't want to let him go away this time." I sniffed. "He will come eventually." "But when?" I sobbed, feeling that old hole in my heart I thought I had filled reopen, a bottomless pit in which I was falling. "Don't despair Kyo he will come here, I bet he is just nervous about the whole thing." whispered Kaos, trying his best to fill that hole in me.
The sound of breaking glass reached my ear, an eer-splitting scream covering the conversations. I looked up, cringing, my ears aching from that unbearable terrified cry. "What's with all the screaming?" grunted Tarken, flinching as another voice echoed to the first one. A wave of dread washed over the entire room, a tide of raw fear taking a hold of everyone, some threatening to succumb to panic. Some ladies fainted, all those nobles loosing their superb, their most primal fear displayed in broad daylight. Bodyguards unsheathed their swords, adopting a defensive stance before their masters, guards and soldiers rushing for the doors in battle order, their weapons shimmering in the dim light. "Speaking of the devil." chuckled Kaos "or rather… the devils." I tensed, a cold chill coursing through me. Before my very eyes the guards formed a tight circle, pointing whatever they could at something hidden behind the wall of their shiny armors; the crowd retreating far from the scene, important people as pale as statues, petrified in horror, having witnessed a spectacle they weren't prepared to. I jumped on my paws rushing toward the scene, heart thumping at a ruthless pace in my chest, a shadow following in my wake. The world around me disappeared, fading in a blur of colors, my vision reduced to the tight silvery grey circle of human soldiers. I knew before I saw what was there, trapped, in danger. If they dare to scratch one of his scales I’ll… I kept repeating myself, ready to tear through hot bloody flesh. "Kyo stop!" yelled someone, a commanding voice rolling in my head, breaking through the haze fogging my mind. I obeyed, skidding to a complete stop, my claws finding no grip on the slippery floor.
Here he was, a blade under his throat, standing tall, defiant, no fear crossing his eyes, his lips pulled back, exposing his sharp deadly fangs, two other creatures standing on each side, growling and barking, their menacing look intimidating the soldiers as they took a defensive posture around him. I have to admit… I was glad they were there to protect him, a heavy weight removed from my heart. However the three of them had a look of determination painted on their face, anger mixing with a burning desire to fight that frightened me, my body tensing up, ready to step between them and prevent a murderous outcome. "Enough!" Roared the emperor, his loud voice imposing silence, the room shaking. All the gazes turned in his direction "guards let them go!" he commanded, the men staring at him with astonished looks on their faces, some obeying, others keeping their blade up, "these three young persons are our guests and it would be very impolite and inappropriate to welcome them in such a way." the last men reluctantly lowered their weapons, breaking the circle.
Alckor stepped forward, throwing anger-filled looks at the embarrassed soldiers who more or less respectfully bowed before them. His two friends followed suit, low rumbles still humming in their throats as they glared at the soldiers around them, their long claws purposely scrapping noisily at the marble floor.
Protests rose from the crowd, arguing that they had nothing to do here. The Emperor only lifted his hand, ordering silence. "My dear subject I understand your fear but today is the first day of a great "bouleversement", of a new age for the empire, the beginning of a new, brighter era for humans, dragons and other species alike so I ask you my dear subjects to welcome "comme il se doit" these young gentlemen who joined forces with us to achieve that greatness!" Silence followed his words, everyone exchanging surprised looks; wearing puzzled faces, wondering what the emperor had in mind, skeptical grimaces twisting traits until A few applauses rose. In a minute or so rounds of applauses echoed in the room, bouncing against the tall walls, dragons roaring their approval, dust falling from the roof, the ground rumbling under their stomping paws. "Holy shit!" yelled Allen, covering his ears, my neck craned high, maw parted open, a deep rumble building up in my throat, infused with pure might. "That's gonna be loud." gasped Kyle, bracing himself. "I love when he does that." purred Tarken, a roar of his own welling up in his vibrating throat "makes him look less like a needy slut." chuckled Kaos, looking up at me, a smile filled with… with something like pride or close to that covering his face. The room shook, people quaked, a tide of fear traversing the assembly as a loud, powerful, mighty roar burst out of my maw, rolling like thunder, rumbling like a storm about to break loose, the sheer might of it sufficient to silence all the other dragons, all of them looking down, eyes glazed, empty, bowing down respectfully, obediently, like little puppets. Even Tarken had submitted, looking at me with hazy eyes, a gleeful smile floating on his lips; his thoughts, his desires, his opinions melted away, replaced by simple obedience and willingness, an eagerness to serve that was making me feel bad. "Maybe a bit too loud" giggled Kaos amusingly; his smoke-made form squirming.
All around me the room had turned silent, a deep, freezing cold, desperately empty silence, all faces frozen on a mask of shock and terror, every dragon kneeling down, glancing at me respectfully, except for three creatures that looked at me with stunned faces, both amazed and terrified, that same haze blurring their eyes. "Sorry… sorry…" I mumbled, blushing profusely, mimicking the other and bowing down, wishing for my grip on them to fade away.
………
Alckor
Such power… such… might… such… strength… all of that in just one roar. My body trembled, tensed before weakness took over my muscles, all strength abandoning me, wiped away by that simple roar… mighty but… just a roar. I was amazed and yet terrified, that feeling of weakness spreading through me, warm flows of raw submission coursing through my veins, subduing me, subsiding any desire to resist, replacing my emotions, taking over my head, turning everything in just one crave, kneel down and submit, bow down before him and serve willingly. I was shivering, fighting back with everything I had that urge to give into this new desire, my slit soaked wet in the blink of an eye. Such power… such raw power in just one noise. I could sense the rush of energy inside Kyo, his body pouring out that familiar magic, this simple sound imprinted with pure energy, so much energy I was almost drooling, craving for it, remembering when I absorbed some of it, when I touched him; the complexity of his intertwined energies. "Keep it together Alckor." hissed one of the two brothers, a sharp pain breaching the haze clouding my mind. They were frozen, paralyzed just like I was but more lucid than I could possibly be at that very instant, cringing, resisting the influence exerted upon us. Luckily in stopped, leaving me feeling weird, embarrassed, shameful, weak and disoriented… and… damn wet under the belly, my slit oozing clear fluids, my musk puffing out around me, waffling at my nose, my tail immediately rushing to cover my crotch, a crimson red hue rushing to my cheeks as I gazed down in embarrassment.
We stepped forward, focusing our hardest on the emperor sitting on his throne on top of a stage on which you could only access by a few steps. We stopped, breath halted, waiting, his gaze scrutinizing us, his face remaining stoic, displaying no expression.
We kneeled down, one of us with a bit more reluctance, the burning gaze of his immense dragon falling down on us, a fiery golden eye staring at us, probing at our minds suspiciously. "Get up brave dragons." whispered the emperor, waving a hand in our direction, a welcoming smile warming his face "step forward and join me." he requested. We obeyed, apprehending, anxious, a cold sweat running down my back. We found ourselves at eye-level with the ruler of these lands, shivering uncontrollably, our linked minds racing with thoughts, questions colliding in all directions in complete chaos, making it nearly impossible to think. "Don't be shy, come closer." he let out in a warm, reassuring tone, even his dragon was smiling, looking less menacing and dangerous than before. We closed the gap, finding ourselves at arm's reach of the man, the three of us sharing nervous glances. "Emperor." we finally whispered in perfect sync, bowing our snouts down. "I am glad you joined force with us. All the help we ca get in this conflict is welcomed." he replied. "We vow to serve you and your empire without defection or flinching." "Don't vow too quickly young ones, you are not obliged in any way." "It is our wish." we answered "we will help protect your lands from those who seek to threaten to your peoples." "Alright then." he sighed, still smiling. I shivered, something warm and soft touching my snout, my eyes closing on their own, my body instinctively pushing forward, seeking that soft, delightful warmth, his old hand radiating more heat than a fire, eliciting a low purr from me as I ground back against his skin.
"All your crimes and sins have been forgiven." he let out after applying the same touch to all of us "don't make me regret that decision." "Shank you your majesty." "We are eternally grateful your highness." whispered Skel, chilling under the emperor's kind caress. "We won't disappoint you." added Tormis, crooning when the emperor rubbed him under the chin. It was a bit odd to see two demons like them purr and coo like this, whispering gentle words to a human emperor but it was a relief for me to see everything was going well now there was only one thing left to do. Skel and Tormis walked away, their claws clicking on the ground as they took their distances. "Thank you… thank you for everything… and… and for havinh faith in us." I murmured, bowing down respectfully before turning away, meeting with my mates at the bottom of the stairs. "That went pretty well." let out Skel, a shared feeling of relief streaming in our link. "Indeed." confirmed Tormis "I wonder what you did to make them accept us." "Oh… I… kinda… negotiated… with them… it was… pretty easy I'd say…" I stammered, avoiding their questioning gazes, covering up my memories of the meeting as best as I could. "Let’s… meet up with my brother…" I suggested. "Sure why not."
Fortunately this time we didn't have to face any trouble, the attention having shifted away from us, the conversation resuming while guests sat at their place. We made our way between !he tables, reaching the far end of the room where a tall black dragon kept his deep blue eyes glued on us, well on me to be more precise, a broad smile floating on his lips. We sat whe!e we could, the closest place to Kyo occupied by a pile of thick swirling fumes vaguely resembling a dragon darting it's crimson red eyes at me. Skel and Tormis sat next to each other, facing me. I gulped down, feeling all these pairs of eyes homed on me, observing me from every angle, some keener than others. Immediately a broad wing draped over me, blanketing me in a soft warmth, bringing me closer in his caring embrace, his snout diving down on me, affectionately nuzzling me. "So Kyo could you tell us who is that young… creature you seem… very familiar with?" enquired an unknown dragon. "And also who are those two?" questioned another; visibly suspicious. "Well… they're Skel and Tormis… they're twins…" sputtered another, a black dragon who had a set of long parallel scars crossing his green eyes. Just like Skel and Tormis he had no wings and… I couldn't explain why but I had the feeling I had seen him before; my guts screaming to me we had met before but where? "You know them?" interrogated a grey dragon who looked to be around my age. "We… *sigh* We've known each others for guide a while now… or at least I thought I knew them." hissed the black drake, throwing a hateful look to Skel and Tormis who instinctively looked down, guilt seeping in our bond. "Anyway I'm proud to present you today my…" began Kyo, proclaiming it as if it had been something important. "You know; I can introduce myself on my own." I chuckled, bumping in his side to get his attention. He huffed grumpily, going silent. "Don't act all grumpy Kyo, he is right, he is old enough to speak for himself." giggled his mate, the green dragon nibbling at Kyo's snout.
"Well my name is Alckor and I'm Kyo's little brother." I happily chirped. A cold wind washed over the table, dragons and riders alike petrified. "Your little brother?" repeated a red one, staring at me in awe. "Are you… are you serious… I mean… is it… the truth?" he mumbled. Kyo vigorously nodded, happily grinning at them, amused by their surprised looks. "I… I didn't know you had one!" exclaimed another. "I never mentioned it… in fact… for a long time I thought him dead." "Just as I did." I admitted, nuzzling my brother's flank. "That's awesome!" shouted the grey one cheerfully "the family is getting bigger!" "Yeah!" nodded Kyo. "Sorry to cut short the whole family reunion thing; it's great, you're cute and all but I… I don't want to sound offending or anything but… for siblings… you don't really look alike…" mumble the black and green one, his keen look strolling on us. "Yes I know we… changed quite a lot." I admitted, looking down at my oversized claws, still finding them quite cumbersome and clumsy, my protruding saber-like fangs more annoying than anything. "That's a drastic change if you ask me." let out the black one. I only sighed “although I didn't want it I can't deny it's true I am nothing like what I was before." "I’m curious how did you end up… like this?" questioned another, giving into his burning curiosity. "I… well I… to… to explain it to you I'll need to… count more than just that." "It's fine; I've wanted to know the whole story for so long." whispered Kyo "I want to know everything that happened to you from the last time we saw each others." "You mean a few hours ago?" "Don't play silly Alckor." he playfully growled. "Actually that would be nice." approved someone I wasn't expecting at all. "Skel!" I squeaked. "Don't look so surprised Alckor, you still owe us an explanation." I froze, jaws agape, eyes bulging wide, speechless, breath cut short. "There are still many dark zones of your past we'd like to know more about." chuckled Tormis." "Alright… I suppose you disserve to know." I whimpered, tears already gathering at the corner of my eyes at the mere thought of all these years. "Of course we deserve to know! We are your mates for goodness sake!" roared Skel, slamming a paw in the table, a few candles jumping, and their flames flickering a brief instant.
"Well… before we get to listen to his story could someone tell us what we're doing here? I mean… I've been summoned here without knowing why." exclaimed the black dragon "not that I don't like being here but… I have a lot of work to do." "Hey you're right Darkan." approved another, soon followed by all the others including Skel and Tormis "Can you believe it? This little rat didn't tell us anything either! We couldn't even bring him to spill it out and trust me when I say that we can be really… persuasive." yelled Skel, upset and frustrated, a wicked smile growing on his face. "Don't freak out… the two are linked." I mumbled, muffing a sniff. "Alright then, we are listening." whispered Kyo, gently cradling me in his caring embrace.
………Meanwhile………
Ace
"Fuck we're late!" ranted Ulrick. We were running down the hall, just emerging from a staircase. Ahead of us the banquet room was already full, guests sat on their comfy chairs. Time goes by so quickly, a second ago we were in his immense dressing, trying out outfits and suits, having an unimaginable fun and the next instant we were running down the castle to get to the party before it started. To be fair… during that time in the dressing I had grown used to us being naked so close to each other even though I didn't dare to peak lower than his belly button. "Slow down Ace." he shouted. I came to a stop, panting, throwing a quick look behind me, seeing him struggling to catch up with me. "Dude how fast can you run?" "Don't know; I didn't even notice." I admitted, scratching the back of my head. "Whatever… just… *pant* wait *pant* wait for me *pant*. Unless… you want to get rid of me." "No way I'm doing this." I replied, kindly waiting for him. We kept walking together, side by side, enjoying the relative silence of the hall, only the two of us, nobody else in sight, noone to disturb us. If only we had more time….
Ahead of us, appearing in a large rectangle of light was the immense dining room filled with unknown faces dressed in expensive clothes sitting around large table on which enormous plates were being disposed by servants, overflowing with food, wine pouring in their glasses. I gulped down, a chill of apprehension coursing through me. It still felt so surreal to be there, in such company, about to meet such high classed people. I looked aside, taking a gander at Ulrick, he was just… beautiful, no other word could describe it; just looking at him for a second made me feel weird, tingly all over, twinges of desire coursing through me, my limbs wobbling. On my end I was wearing a rather simple and tight outfit with matching shoes. I told Ulrick I didn't want something too fancy and luckily for me my wish was granted. He had an eye to dress me up… and probably the opposite too. On top of that I opted to wear a large soft black piece of tissue covering my eyes, acting as the blindfold I used to wear, hiding eyes that often disturbed people. Although there were of no use, I could see through them like in bright daylight although they still covered what Skye gifted me with. Speaking of which, Skye… well… just looking at him had me on the verge of bursting into laughter. While we were trying out dresses he got his claws on a silly oversized bowtie and, when he was done having fun with it, chewing and toying with it he had made us understand that he wanted it. The result was absolutely hilarious yet Skye looked so cute and proud of himself with it, more serious and formal all of a sudden, as if that tiny thing had turned him upside down. After that we had gone nuts, adding a silver necklace and a few other ornaments he quickly got rid off. "He's gonna steal the show." chuckled Ulrick, petting Skye on the head. "Yep…" I giggled, rubbing his chin with a finger. A loud chirr rose from the room. "Oh oh brace yourself it's about to begin." gasped Ulrick, holding still, adopting a natural-looking happy grin, although from my point of view it completely looked fake, tense and nervous, like he was a bit anxious, aware of something I was oblivious to.
Skye let out a high-pitched squeak, panic blooming in my head, alarm signals yelling in my brain. Before my eyes a torrent of people poured out of the room, rushing in our direction, cheering and shouting in all directions, hands extended, clasping at nothing but thin air. There were many different kind of people but a crazy amount of girls of all origins and countries, most of them undeniably gorgeous beauties with faces underlined by richest and most complex dresses, wearing shimmering golden jewels that glimmered in the light. In a second they were upon us, surrounding us. I staggered back, shoved around by the careless ladies, Skye taking into the skies to not be squashed while I was roughly pounced from all sides, loosing my marks, their pungent perfumes blocking my nose, my ears deafened with their joyful exclamations, the world turning into a swirling blend of colors. Panicked, barely standing on my feet I looked for Ulrick, tried to locate him in the dense crowd but I couldn't find him, staggering back with each brutal push, all these rich ladies shoving me around like a doll until, finally I popped free of their embrace, toppling over to everyone's disinterest, the tight crowd going back to the room, dragging the prince away with them, leaving me alone, sitting on my butt, trying to piece together what just happened. Flapping wings caught my attention, powerful gusts of wind billowing over my face, Skye standing at eye-level, cutely warbling, observing me with a look of worries. I extended an arm, inviting him to land. He obliged, emitting a loud chirp before gliding to his favorite spot, wings tucked against his flanks, snout nuzzling my face, his raspy tongue coating my skin in slimy dragon spit. I let him do, enjoying the affection I was given but my heart and my head were somewhere else, wondering what happened to Ulrick. I got to my feet, wiped the dust off of my clothes, cursing those ill-mannered ladies "It's not because you're the daughter of a rich douchebag that you can't apologize." I ranted, grumbling under my breath as I penetrated into the dining room, far less inclined to enjoy myself. My gaze wandered around the tables, recognizing some peoples, friendly figures smiling to me. Relief washed over me, a reassuring warmth spreading into me, a familiar black dragon pointing an empty chair, urging me to take the place. I smiled back, glad to see they were there too. Even Alckor, who seemed busy telling the others something important judging by the religious silence of the other dragons took a moment to show me a broad toothy grin, spreading his wings invitingly.
"Excuse me sire dragon rider." called a voice, a tall old man appearing in my field of view, coming from apparently nowhere. His face… I recalled seeing it but where, his old wrinkled face, grey hairs and beard, his light armor. "We haven't been properly introduced." he continued, aware of my inner questioning as I was trying my hardest to remember who this guy was. My gaze roamed a bit, descending on his chest, where, hidden behind a red cloak his rusty grey armor was visible, his country's insigne on display. The meeting of course, he must be one of the generals? What could he possibly want?
"I am the general Scaleworth; Arthur Scaleworth, commander in chief of the southern realms alliance." "It's an honor to make your acquaintance general" I whispered, bowing slightly, shaking the hand he offered "I am Ace, humble servant of the emperor." "And soon-to-be dragon rider I see." added the old general with a keen look, reaching out with a hand, letting Skye curiously sniff at his palm. "Indeed." I approved "but general what owes me your presence." "I only wished to thank you for what you did earlier. If it wasn't for your blessed arrival we would still be arguing and burying ourselves in pointless debates." "It's my pleasure to help." I replied, honored. "This ability of yours is incredible. I am sure it will prove very handy in these… troubled times." "Really?" I mumbled, my cheeks flushed with heat. "Yes, if the rumors I heard are true those we are fighting against have the ability to hide and cover their traces, making themselves almost undetectable, allowing them to hide among us, to deceive us until we lower our guards. But enough about that; I just wished to say to you, in all honesty that I can already tell you will be a formidable dragon rider." "Thank you general" I mumbled, blushing profusely, my cheeks turning a bright red. "Don't thank me yet, jus! don't prove me wrong." he chuckled a bit, his face recovering it's usual seriousness in the blink of an eye. "I won't sire."
I was about to leave and head for the table where all the others were waiting for me when I suddenly tensed, realizing in shock something was missing on my shoulder, a familiar presence gone, the sensation of claws latched around my shoulders gone. Skye! I looked around in panic, only to discover him flying, his wings beating fast to keep him from falling flat, affectionately nuzzling the old general's face, his pink tongue dashing over the old wrinkled skin, deep purrs humming in his throat, his small paws hugging the man. My heart skipped a beat, my brain phasing, struggling to register what my eyes were showing me. It was highly unusual to say the least, to see Skye be so affectionate with another human being. With other dragons he had no trouble getting along but with humans it was a completely different story, he was always suspicious, on edge, dodging fondling hands or nipping at fingertips, not letting himself be touched, without a complete check, glaring back hatefully at anyone that dared to look at me with an offending or disrespectful look when he didn't spit fire at them right away. What did this guy had different from any other human? His mind bubbled with love, as if… as if he had found someone he had lost for countless years… like… family. It was so weird, it didn’t make any sense to me. "you have… a really affectionate dragon." mumbled the man, a sly smile curling his lips, a hand gently pushing Skye away but the little dragon wasn't about to be denied so easily, ramming himself back against the man's face, claws latching onto his skin, offering the general a full body hug… well… at Skye's scale at least. "Yes, he can be quite… sticky." I puffed, amused by the sight. The man didn't seem bothered the slightest, not even flinching, his hands shyly fondling Skye's back. Skye chirped happily, giggling under the affectionate caresses. "I'm terribly sorry, he loves cuddles. Let me… let me remove him…" I stammered embarrassedly. "I don't mind the slightest." retorted the general, his words muffed by the scales covering his mouth "it would be rude of me to contain such an affectionate creature." "At least let me…" "No, don't; let him enjoy himself. It would be unfair to prevent him to do so, such youthfulness; give him some slack." Skye warbled approvingly, nuzzling the old man's face, slowly pulling away, allowing the old general to cradle him in his large hands.
The man looked at him, smiling, eyes sparkling, as if just holding Skye reminded him of past good times. "I have seen many dragons in my life but none like you." he whispered, patting Skye's forehead, carefully handing him over to me. "Excuse me what do you mean by that?" I enquired, cautiously wrapping my hands around the smooth scales, shivering as his warmth seeped under my skin, bringing the little squirming form closer to my chest, his unfolded wings rubbing against my belly. "The empire isn't the only one who has had issues with dragons; my kingdom and others in the south have been at war with them for long years. Although we had lived in peace for as far as I can remember one day they suddenly turned against us. At first they were only a few but soon it spread out. In a matter of days it grew into a massive revolt throughout the kingdoms, sadly it quickly escalated into a rebellion and a few weeks later we had a fully fledged civil war on our hands; dragons tearing out humans in the streets, retaliations just as terrible from the other side. In a month or so the entire kingdom was on fire, roads full of dead bodies left to rot there in the sun's scorching heat, the sand drenched in red, cities turned into ghost towns, fled by their inhabitants, houses burned, streets turned in mass graves dead corps of dragons and humans alike scattered around villages like a sandstorm had devastated the place. In months the war had spread to other neighboring realms that soon found themselves at the brink of total chaos, on the verge of falling apart. Something had ignited a fire, a fire that had turned into a ragging inferno we couldn't contain or fight on our own. After some time they reached out to each others in desperation, finally agreeing to ally to eradicate the threat and I'm using the word of the agreement they signed." "My goodness that's horrible! But why would dragons turn against humans like this?" "I don't know; at first everyone thought dragons felt mistreated, underestimated, and not equal to us in whatever way they thought about." "But it wasn't it" "Nope; they just seemed eager to erase us from the earth's surface and take over our lands for themselves, joining forces with the main dragon realm. Now… I understand what caused that brutal shift in their behavior… that corruption… kinda acts like a sickness, spreads like a plague and nothing can stop it neither slow it down." I nodded, recalling what Kyo had slipped between two lust-filled insinuations. That corruption that seeped into the minds of those it took, that crippled them and induced their thoughts with darkness until the host would submit while also slowly changing their body, mutating their flesh until there was nothing left of them. And… judging by all the darkness I saw pouring out of two dragons sandwiching Alckor, there were two of these so called corrupted, even though they weren't hiding it and it didn't seem to bug anyone out.
"Guess even some of them are different" he chuckled, following my gaze. "Maybe…" I mumbled, scrutinizing them from behind. "I suppose you have… slaughtered dragons." I mumbled, disgusted by the thought that popped in my head, clutching Skye tighter against my chest, darting a suspicious glance at the old general. "I did, quite a few of them. They didn't choose me to lead the southern realms alliance for no reason." "There is nothing to brag about." I hissed through clenched teeth. "I know; my apologies; I got a bit… carried away." I nodded approvingly, grumbling under my breathe. "This is true I have blood on my hands, like everybody involved in this too long conflict but I did it to protect my people, to preserve peace, but don't be afraid I won't do any harm to your dragon or any dragon who sided with us… unless they reveal to be traitors of course." he added. "So… you're some dragon slayer of sort." "You could say that yes. I'm surprised no word from my exploits reached any ears here." I only shrugged "I haven't been keeping track of what is happening in the world." I admitted, not caring much. "It's odd though" I added; rubbish my chin, a sly smile appearing on my lips. "What is bothering you?" he enquired curiously, frowning slightly. "Well… I don't want to offend you but are you sure you slew dragons?" "What are you implying? Are you accusing me of lying?" he growled. "No not at all; I was just thinking that… how to put it… usually dragon slayers don't live long enough to tell their story." "Unless they are experimented and know how to defeat a dragon." "Sure but even knowing that you should have some scars or traces of these encounters." "Oh I do, trust me I do." he grumbled, massaging his apparently painful back. "Oh really I hope you didn't confused slay with lay dragons."
Oh curse me why did I say this? Why did I even think about it. What lustful idea rooted in my head? What's wrong with me? It's not like me to have such lewd thoughts. In front of me the general is staggering back, his face tuqning a pale white, his eyes going wide in shock, mouth gaping on a silent cry, his arms hanging limply along his body. And on top of that, if that wasn't enough a heavy silence fell on the assembly; everybody looking at me with similar shocked faces, puzzled gazes homed on me, wondering what had gotten into me. Questioning warbles came to my ears, Skye looking up at me with that same interrogative look, scaly eyebrows quizzically raised, his young brain trying to understand my words.
No one was smiling… well… no one except the dragons, their reptilian eyes glinting with malice, some of them toothily grinning, a few of them threatening to straight up burst into laughter. I threw them a quick look, Alckor had stopped telling whatever he was counting, hiding his face under a wing, giggles emanating from under the membrane, shaking his whole frame; his two friends sporting wicked grins, chuckling to each other. On the other side of the table Kyo was the most obviously enjoying himself, puffing out muffed laughter along with some clouds of grayish smoke that had strange deep blue hues, staring at me with a keen eye filled with malice. "I knew there was more dragon into you than just your eyes." he snickered, reaching out for my mind, crushing my defenses, storming in my unprepared head; wrecking havoc in my lines of thoughts, making a mess of my brain. "It was a really nice pun, I wouldn't have said it better myself." he greeted me, mentally nuzzling me "I'm proud of you you little naughty guy." he chuckled. "Quit it Kyo, don't make it harder for him than it alrea¤ay is." hissed another voice, a new presence invading my brain with more caution, gently nestling itself in my head "although I have to give you that I didn't see it coming." laughed Tarken. "What a wonderful example you're giving you two." growled a third voice with a pang of irony. "Guys… please stop…" I winced, my legs wobbling, barely holding me up "my head isn't a chatting room." I grumbled, my sight becoming a blur. Loud laughter burst in the room, reverberating in the deep silence,. I tensed, frowning, looking at the general who leaned against a chair, a hand clutching his chest, his face contorted by joy, his tired eyes illuminated with amusement, his face looking… different… younger, as if laughing was acting like a cure on him.
"I have to say I wasn't expecting this kind of jokes from you. I suppose you are someone full of surprises." he gasped, panting for breathe. "I'm… terribly sorry… I don't know where that came from." "Don't be sorry; I haven't laughed like that in years. Every people here are always so formal, so serious it's a relief to see someone that enjoys joking. Although this one was a bit bold." I nodded aprovingly, a dark red hue spreading on my face. "But it was a really sweet joke nevertheless." he continued, greating me with a broad smile "and to be completely hoqnest i am quite surprised, it is true that during my life I haven't only spilled dragon blood if ynu catch my adrift." he chuckled on a low tone. My grin only widened, more lust-addled thoughts popping in my mind. "That expl^ins why Skye was so happy to see you. Perhaps you still… reek of dragon's scent." I suggested "he might take you for his grandpa or something." "Hehe nice one." he chuckled, catching his breathe "although… you wouldn't be too far from the truth by saying so." "Hold on a second what did you say?" I sputtered, unsure I had correctly heard. In the blink of an eye he recovered his seriousness, his solemn face letting no emotion transpire. "Ace; I have something to show you; something that will change your life forever." he said, landing a hand on my shoulder, his seriousness contrasting with his laughter one second ago. "Okay…" I whispered, sharing a wondering look with Skye who was only lying in my arms, not interested in our conversation anymore. "Please follow me."
He led the way, navigating between tables and servants, reaching the far end of the room, at the extremity of a table identical to the rest. As we approached a tall man seemed to notice us, immediately getting up, readjusting his collar before helping a woman get up as well, holding her white-gloved hand with infinite care and caution, as if she would break if he applied too much pressure. I observed, judging by their clothes they were high-ranked people from another country, probably from the southern realms… or maybe the east… I couldn't tell. Anyway they weren't from here. The man wore a long black and red robe sweeping the carpet with each step he took, ruffling noisily. His figure was serious, traits hard and cold like a rock, pinkish skin, pinched lips, his eyelids dropping slightly, hiding his green eyes scrutinizing me with sharp, expert eyes; their vivid color only matched by the green emerald he proudly wore, crimped in a large ring crowning his forefinger. His short, rare hairs were hidden under some sort of small silly hat. The lady on her side was a stunning beauty, her perfectly white dress only making her look even more beautiful, even though she wasn't as young and fresh as other women she had that natural, persistent beauty that I was sure made every men's heart burn with love. Long blond hairs surrounded her pale face; her smile only increasing her beauty, unveiling dazzlingly white teeth, her ice-blue eyes darted at me with some sort of happiness. Was she delighted to see me? Why? "General" saluted the man. "Sir I brought him to you like you requested." replied the general, addressing the man a deep respectful bow. Before I could mimic him all the air fled from my lungs, golden threads floating before my eyes, veiling my vision as I staggered back under a violent impact, something soft wrapping around my chest, dragging me in some sort of hug.
Before I knew what was happening to me my head was resting on a soft, smooth surface, my face buried in the woman's dress, my nose assaulted by a sweet fragrance, her soft but strong hands pulling me closer, her voice, a low joyful whisper rising, filling my ears with words I barely understood. Skye shrieked tiny claws stinging my skin as he swiftly squirmed out of my grasp, climbing along my arm, finding a better spot on my shoulder, huffing loudly, upset, pissed off from having been so rudely pulled out of sleep. "Excuse me ma'am… but… why re you cuddling me like this… I'm not your kid…" I mumbled, fighting the urge to just close my eyes and let her cuddle me all she wanted, feeling comfy and safe in her embrace. "Oh but you are." chuckled a nearby voice. The word ecchoed in my head, bouncing in an empty space deprived of thoughts and emotions as I turned them in all direction, playing them again and again without catching the reach of their meaning. Only long minutes later, when a deep throaty growl broke the silence did I open my eyes, a chill of fear rushing to my fuzzy head. "Skye!" I growled warningly, darting an angry glare at him. Yet he kept growling, his fangs bared, his lips trembling, like he was about to bite. "Skye!" I roared but he held still, back arched, wings flared, claws digging in my shoulder, his tail hanging low, his face, ordinarily so warm and invitingtwisted ugl^ly by a snarl of pure hatred, eyes blazing, a blue inferno fueled by raw anger burning inside them. "Oh… is someone jealous?" cooed the lady, risking a hand toward Skye "don't worry little one, you will get your fair share of attention too." To my own dismay Skye backed away, his growl deepening, his jaws snapping loudly. He dropped on my shoulder, claws digging through my clothes, assuring a firm grip on me, his blue eyes homed on the couple, his lips pulled back, exposing his glistening fangs, his back arched, his tail hanging low brushing against my back, wings extended, like he was about to take flight, his sharp claws
s digging bloody lines in my skin. Jolts of pain ignited from my shoulder blade, my whole arm tingling painfully, snapping me out of this blissful state I was into.
I brutally pulled away, roughly shoving her back in the process, stumbling back, a hand squeezing Skye's maw, the little dragon squeaking in surprise, violently ruffling, tugging back a, trying his hardest to free his snout, huffing and whimpering, his tiny claws scratching my hand in protest. The woman seemed in shock, backing away near her husband, staring at me with incomprehension. "Sorry… my apologies madam… I didn’t want to be impolite or look rude; I feared he would attack you. He is… kinda… prone to set things on fire." I grumbled, throwing the still squirming drake a scolding glare. "There is no need to apologize; I suspect your little friend is just a bit jealous." she replied in a soft, reasuring tone, her amused smile bringing relief to me "beside I don't think he would dare to harm me." she added , taking a n assured step in our direction. "Excuse me my lady but I wouldn't be so sure, he has close to no regards for who he is breathing fire at." I protested, tightening my grip around his snout, my fingers slipping on his slick scales. Her smile only grew larger, enlightening her face, making her look more beautiful than ever, confidence shining bright in her blue eyes as she laid her gaze on me "he wouldn't dare to harm family." she murmured, so low I doubted I had heard correctly, extending a hand toward me.
I tensed, stepping back, eyes bulging wide, breathless, my heart drumming in my chest, the words finally forming something coherent in my head.
"Mommy?" I whispered, trembling, standing on wobbly legs, my hand loosening it's grip on Skye's muzzle, falling limp against my side. Skye Warbled curiously, glancing at me with worried eyes, nuzzling my cheek; his warm scales brushing against my skin, causing me to uncontrollably shiver. "Yes… my son." she whispered back, a large smile brightening her gorgeous face, her hands softly cupping my head.
………
Alckor
"Hold on, are you trying to tell us that we have been asked to take part in a suicide mission with little chance of success following a crazy idea coming from you; some weirdo we barely know a thing about!" yelled someone, finally breaking the deep emptiness that had followed my explanations. Everyone seemingly shocked for different reasons but the result was still the same; no one looked ready to follow me… aside from Kyo… although even he looked astonished. "Yes… it's… the plan." I mumbled, shivering, terrified by the grim picture they had drawn. "Dude how do you expect someone to agree to this!" shouted a second drake, their face painted with a mask of horror. "What I can't believe is that you…" "Hid this from us!" roared two upset demons sitting either side of me, forcing me to shrink down under their anger-filled gazes. "Why did you hide this from us?" questioned one, snarling in anger. "Because… because… I feared you wouldn't let me go…" I whimpered, already feeling so guilty for not telling them. "And you think we're gonna accept this now and watch you kill yourself for nothing!?" roared Skel, his tail swaying widely, the thick scaly appendage violently smacking my back, pain spreading under my scales "have you lost your mind or what!?" "Skel… please listen… I…" "No you’re the one who's gonna shut up and listen, you've already spoke more than enough." he hissed, menacingly baring his fangs "there is no way I'm letting you do this!" "But…" "Dude freaking shut up before I rip your head clean. Do you realize what you're asking of us… of me? You want us to let you frigging go on a suicide mission against an entire army of trained and ruthless! Can't yes see they'll tear you apart before you even get the chance to lay a claw on that old piece of crap." "They won't even know we'll be here." I retorted my words falling on deaf ears. "You're hard to miss Alckor." huffed Skel, they'll feel you the very moment you step past the border." "I don't think so." I sniggered. "Whatever I am not letting you go. I don't care if I have to chain you to something but I won't let you go, no matter what it costs. This world can be devoured by hellish flames or be left to rot in a desolated wasteland I don't care; I am not risking loosing you."
We argued for long minutes, my arguments only crashing on the impenetrable wall of his denial, his concealed face letting only his determination. It hurts me to do that to him, his words, his love are sincere but I can't let those emotions soften my determination. His eyes filling up with tears making it nearly impossible to look straight at him. "How stubborn can you be? And you, don't stay here saying nothing, help me!" he yelled, glaring at Tormis who had been leaning back and watching things unfold with a wry grin floating on his lips. "What's the point? You won't make him change his mind." he sighed, observing us with half-lidded eyes. I grinned, glancing at him with gratitude, glad to have someone on my side. "What! On which side are you dumbass?" "I'm not siding; I'm just saying that it's pointless trying to convince him." "How can you accept this?" huffed Skel in disbelief, glancing at other dragons, begging them to support him. "Oh who said I was accepting?" "But you just…" "I know I can't make him change his mind, he already took his decision and I made up my mind; however it doesn't mean I'm agreeing either but vengeance is a meal better-eaten cold and your punishment will come… later." I gulped down; a cold shiver of fright running down my spine, his grin growing more wicked. "Hehe I forget how evil you are, always plotting something." chuckled Skel, a vicious smirk curling his lips. "Anyway if we can't bring you to abandon this stupid idea then we are coming with you and don't try to argue about it." he growled, my grin only widening "and from that happy look on your face I guess that's what you were expecting." he grunted in irritation. "Indeed." I confirmed. "Hehe he outsmarted you again." chuckled Tormis. "So… who is coming?" I shyly mumbled, giving each of my mates a loving nuzzle.
"All these years *snif* all these years you were… right under my nose." sobbed Kyo, tears cascading from his eyes, streaming down his cheeks "you were there… and I didn’t see you." he mumbled, frustration peaking in his voice. "How could you know"." whispered Kaos, wrapping Kyo up in his smoky coils, hugging him tightly, whispering soft words in his ears, comforting him as best as he could, a sting of envy piercing my heart; I wish I could do the same but we were too far. "You already know my opinion on this whole thing and I'm not letting you go alone; I'll follow you to the end of the world." he whimpered; his tear-filled eyes staring at me intensely. "And don't count us out." added his mate, cradling Kyo, a wing draped over his large frame. I smiled; glad to have them with me. I jumped to my paws and rushed around the table, ramming myself in Kyo's chest, grinding my snout in his soft smooth scales, his clawed paw pressing against my back, pushing me even closer. My nostrils twitched, taking deep whiffs in his strong, potent, manly musk, his tangy scent making me feel a bit dizzy, like I had drank too much, my slit tightening, my arousal stirred to life. "Wow it's gonna become really hot between them." purred a familiar voice in my head." "Shut up Skel, don't disturb them." growled Tormis.
We spent long minutes like this, cuddling together, not speaking a single word, only enjoying that instant, that magic instant of pure, simple brotherly love. "I suppose that if my presence has been requested it's because you need a healer correct?" "Yes." I nodded, breaking away, focusing all my attention on the one who spoke, Darkan if I remembered correctly. "It's true… but the choice is yours we won't force you." "*Sigh* I'm not a big fan of the idea; it's unnecessarily risky and dangerous but… I know my skills will be of a greater use with you than here… I'm certain you'd be glad to have someone to fix you up after going into battle. Although… I'd… gladly stay here, still has a lot of work to do." he mumbled hesitantly. "Are you sure it's only because of 'work' that you want to stay here?" interrogated another "or is it because you're too busy screwing around." The black and green dragon let out a "oh" of surprise, his scale turninh a beautiful shade of red "yes I've spotted you mounting your mate in an alley earlier this morning and they looked quite… full if I could say so." "Well… I've been… gosh its embarrassing… rather…" "Horny?" suggested Skel, giggling behind a paw. "no… rather… pent-up…" stammered Darkan, playinh with the tip of his long sinuous tail "and… I… how to put this? And there is an event I wouldn't miss for anything in the world" he whispered, bowing his head down. "Oh really?" "Yes… my first clutch… it's about to hatch." "Your first clutch? Dude how many clutches of eggs do you have?" gasped Tormis in awe. "Didn't keep count actually; I've just been very… productive I suppose." "That's great." I shouted, taking a sneaky peak under the table, eyes bulging wide when struck with the sight of his plump, cum-swollen hefty nuts resting in their large pouch kissing the thick comfy pillows we used as chair, standing proudly under his swollen slit puffing out, a clear drop of precum seeping out, trickling down between his legs.
"Yeah it's just an excuse; your eggs won't hatch soon." huffed Skel. Darkan growled, darting menacing eyes at Skel who looked at the black and green dragon in pretty much the same fashion, the two facing each others, exchanging deep rumbles and snarls. "Enough you two." growled Kyo, that mere growl imprinted with that same power from before "Darkan, it will only take us a handful of days, your eggs can wait that long." "Alright… I'm in… guess I don't have much of a choice anyway."
One after the other they agreed, their approval fueling my heart with hope, hope that we would succeed. "There is just a… slight issue." I muttered, keeping a mental count "our group needs to remain small… too much dragons or humans and they might spot us." "Don't worry about that, we are… eight dragons and… five humans so far; it won’t be a problem, if the humans stick to a strict set of rules. I know it will be hard for all of you but it is necessary evil if we don't want to raise any suspicion?" "But don't get too cocky it won't last long." warned Allen "and if you dare to do anything sexual with any of us I can promise you there will be retaliation." "Oh don't complain, I'm sure you'd like what I have in mind for you." purred Kyo grinning deviously, his eyes glazed with lust, his tongue dashing over his lips in a lewd display of want. "My warning was meant for you Kyo!" retorted Allen, his fist smacking Kyo's snout, causing him to stagger back in surprise. "The number isn't a problem… ;he real issue is… who will carry us? I mean it's not like any of us three can fly." commented Skel. "Yes… that's a real problem…" admitted Darkan. "Not that much… I… I might be able to carry one or… two of you on my back." cautiously mumbled Kyo, reluctant. "Wouldn't we be too heavy for you?" enquired Tormis "I mean we don't weight a tone but… isn't it gonna be difficult to carry your rider and one of us?" "Don't worry for me… I'm stronger than I look… and I've got more tha@ enough room on my back." Only Darkan nodded, looking like he knew more than he made believe. Had he seen Kyo… in that other form? Probably.
"So I guess that solves our main issue. Is everyone agreeing with the plan?" I questioned, giving each person around the table a wondering look. "I suppose we just have to decide who goes in which group." replied the grey dragon. I nodded. "Hey hold on… what's happening over there?" shouted someone. In an instant the silence fell, our attention drawn to the farthest end of the room, ears perked, trying to catch bribes of what was happening.
Ace
"My son…" she whispered in my ear, still clutching me tight against her, her sweet fragrance melting my thoughts away, turning my questions, my doubts, my feeling to utter nothingness, leaving only an almighty feeling of delight… of having found what I had been missing all my life. Skye warbled, poking at my cheek, nipping at my ear, his high-pitched chirrs reverberating in my empty head, trying his hardest to make me snap out of it to no avail. I was floating in a world of pure ecstasy, feeling good. "We finally found you" murmured a gentle but raspy voice, another person adding itself to the hug, landing its large hand on my back, warmth filling my whole frame from their combined affection, basking in their love. "We thought we had lost you forever" sniffed my mother, her hands squeezing me tight, her face buried in my hairs, salty tears dripping down on top of my head, Soaking my hairs wet "we feared we wouldn't ever see you again." she added, her voice breaking, crippling my heart with regrets and sorrow. "We prayed the gods everyday, begged them to bring you back to us, to keep you safe from harm." she added in a broken whimper, her voice a soft melody long forgotten. "We searched for you but we could never find you but we never lost hope… and as I see our faith has been rewarded." I weakly nodded, my brain barely assimilating what my ears were sending me. The world around me had gone silent, guests watching the scene, exchanging low whispers about us; some even applauding, grating us from a distance, celebrating a broken family's reunion but I didn't hear them. The world around me didn’t exist anymore, reduced to a tiny circle, me, and my parents, sheltered in their warmth and affection, shielded from the outside world by their unquenchable love. I let my body act, wrapping my hands around my mother, holding her as if she would disappear into thin air, vanish like an illusion the very instant I'd stop hugging her.
I looked up, trembling from head to toes, my eyes going back and forth between them, their loving, caring smiles bringing warmth to my heart, tears blurring my vision, salty droplets trickling down my face, wetting my skin before dropping down. "Mom… dad…" I whimpered, the words struggling to come out of my knotting throat, my voice breaking on each of them; those two, so simple, so basic words sounding foreign to my ears, as if, all of a sudden I was speaking another language. "Yes my son… Ace… it is us…" they replied, opening their arms to me. Without a second thought I rushed forward, abandoning myself in their boundless affection, tears rolling freely down my face, wetting my mother's dress, low whimpers escaping my mouth, my body quaking under heavy sobs, My whole frame shaking violently as their soft hands clutched me, hers holding me, his patting my back, their intertwined voices whispering words of comfort into my ears, their low tones cradling me, carrying me away. Even Skye was purring, relentlessly nuzzling me all over, nudging himself closer, his slick scales rubbing against my face and neck, his slippery tongue wiping the tears from my face.
I felt good, blissfully good, I felt… all again; touching the heavens, pulled out of that living nightmare by their caring embrace. It was… so perfect… so utterly perfect, wonderful, floating on a little cloud, letting myself go, a long-forgotten crave rising within me, a desire to be cradled, cuddled, comforted, held in caring hands, basked, showered in love and affection.
"I… I… I… *snif* I… thought… I would never know you… that I would never… see… you…" I mumbled "for all these years… I… I thought you had… abandoned me… or… or that we had been separated… that… that you had died…" I cried out, holding to her direly, feeling so bad for saying that, guilty of thinking they could have abandoned me. "We… we came to believe the same, we were so desperate to find you, we moved heaven and earth to find you but to no avail… like someone had removed you from existence." she replied, her make-up dripping, washed away by her tears. She was happy, relieved, grateful, her smile making me feel even better. I wished she could always be smiling like this.
"Let me look at you my dear son…" she whispered, pulling me away with unexpected strength, her soft delicate hands gripping mine, my father observing from the sideway, a hand on my shoulder, looking proud. Meanwhile the general… or my grandfather as I should call him had taken a few steps back, arms crossed, observing the trio we formed, a ghostly smile floating on his lips, filled with pride and satisfaction, eyes shining with happiness his concealed face didn't show. He looked different, less serious, satisfied like someone who had come victorious after a long exhausting battle, like someone that had accomplished his mission, accomplished his duty. Had he been looking for me? Had they been for so long? Roaming the world to try and fade me? I could recall the general's… god feels weird to say we're of the same blood… never mind, I remembered the look of mixed shock and surprise on his face when I had entered the meeting room, how puzzled he looked. At first I had thought he was scared by my look like all the others but now I knew he had recognized, and what I misunderstood for fear was in fact disbelief, dismay, like a miracle of some sort had occurred right before his eyes.
"Look at him darling, look at our son, hasn't he grown into a handsome young man?" she exclaimed herself, observing me from head to toes, apparently happy with what she saw. "Indeed my dear, he is a beautiful boy, but not as pretty as his father." he chuckled, patting my back. I smirked, keeping my gaze on my mother, shivering under her slow careful touch, her fingers probing, exploring, hands stroking my face. "My goodness you have changed so much since… last time I saw you." she said, her voice turning into a sorrowful whimper, tears pearling at the corner of her eyes, her expression darkening, a shadow crossing her face as she dove back in painful memories. My heart sank, a cold hand squeezing my heart, that feeling of abandon emerging again, quelled only by truth, questions burning my lips, my tongue aching to speak them out yet I remained silent, taking upon myself to not press her with those painful interrogations of mine. They could wait. Her husband seemed to notice her distress, landing a hand on her shoulder, bringing her closer, hugging her lovingly, their love for each other so visible it almost made me jealous.
"How… how did it all happen?" I mumbled, unsure after a few minutes of silence, my voice trembling, my hands nervously twisting the edges of my clothes. She turned her face in my direction, her face having lost all it's beauty, turned into an almost grotesque mask where sadness and sorrow met comical and ridiculousness; her ruined make-up leaving large blackish stains on her pale figure, her lips trembling, her eyes full of tears staring at me with a disarming sadness, begging me to not ask that question. My father bowed his head down, holding his wife even closer to him, his face looking darker, his expression grimmer "I suppose you deserve to know." he sighed reluctantly, the mere thoughts already crippling them. My mother nodded, taking a deep breath, trying to contain her overflowing eyes. "It was… a long time ago." started my father on a deep tone. "You were just a baby… barely a few weeks old…" she added, "you were our pride and joy." continued my father, smirking, eyes sparkling as he related those old good memories of happier times.
"We tried to have children for years, we tried everything but all our attempts remained useful; we prayed all the gods to give us an heir to take our place when we would be too old." "A… a successor? For what?" I mumbled, feeling my legs wobble under me, my heart rate speeding up like crazy, my brain racing with thoughts. "Your parents Ace aren't only fancy rich nobles, your father here is also the ruler of a kingdom and your mother is the queen of another, their union brought those two conflicting nations to peace." proclaimed my grandfather with a hint of pride. "So I am…" I stuttered, holding onto a chair to not fall. "Yes… a prince and legitimate pretender to our throne." approved my father "and I think you will do wonders." he added with an encouraging grin, eyes blazing with that burning certitude, as if my fate, my future, my destiny were already written down. "But back to the story honey, you will tell him after; it can wait a little bit longer." "Indeed my love" he approved with an apologetic expression.
"S-so?" I stammered, suspended to their lips, apprehending yet desiring to know the whole story. "Finally… after years of trying it worked and you… *snif* you were born… we were so… delighted, so happy we celebrated your birth, organized big banquet and feasts around the kingdom; all the people were competing." she added, smiling nostalgically. "Was I… already… like this?" I mumbled, waving a hand before my eyes. She nodded "yes, you were born with that… illness but it wasn’t an issue, you seemed to feel our presence, recognize us, see us in your own way. We were so overjoyed it didn't matter to us; we would have worked our way around that… issue… and it appears you fooud a way on your own even with your difference." she complimented me, grinning proudly. "Oh… I… I got some help…" I mumbled, cheeks flushed red, throwing a grumpy-looking Skye a grateful glance, rubbing his chin. "My dear, difference is what makes a man stand out of the crowd, that's what makes them special." added my father. "Anyway… how did we end up being separated?" "It happened during the night… a few weeks after you were born. We started receiving letters emanating from an unknown source always delivered in front of our doors." Explained my father, tensing like a rope. "What were they?" "Menaces my son… a deceitful attempt at blackmailing us. At first we didn’t listen to them but… as time passed they became more virulent, more hateful, urging us to comply to their demands and if we didn't… they menaced of harming you." "So we posted guards around your room and increased the security of our mansion." continued my mother. "They shared their worries with me and I had a highly-trained squad of soldiers sent there to assure your protection." added my father, grumbling the words. "Yet… jt wasn't sufficient…” sighed my father… and one night… we heard cries… the cries of a baby…. We rushed to your room but it was already too late, the guards had been decimated and… you weren't there anymore." continued my mother. "We searched the whole kingdom for you, even requested assistance from other kingdoms but our efforts remained vain; you had purely and simply vanished." whimpered my mother, breaking in tears. "After a while we started receiving those same letters, warning that this time… if we didn't bow to their will… we wouldn't see you again." "What did you do?" I mumbled, reaching forward, holding my mother in my arms, her hands wrapping around my back, pressing me against her chest.
"We had no choice but to comply, we accepted." sighed my father reluctantly, cursing himself for having submitted to this. "While I was discreetly trying to locate the bastard." grunted my grandfather "but could never get a grip on those slippery eels." "This little game went on for a few years… then the letters stopped coming… aand we never got any contact with them again." "We feared… we feared they had… killed you." whined my mother, squeezing me even harder against her, her tears cascading on my shoulder, soaking my clothes but I didn't care; only Skye seemed to mind, huffing, forced to change spot. "Yet it appears they didn't do so… I'd be curious to know what happened to you. Ace, do you mind counting your story to an old man? Also… I'd love to know how you ended in such great company?" Questioned my grandfather, reaching for Skye's snout, the little dragon extending his neck, lapping at the approaching hand. "Well… we… sort of… found each other I'd say…." I replied, our eyes meeting, a happy thrill escaping his little maw. "You surely two look to go along pretty well." commented the general, playing with Skye's stubby horns. "We do…" I agreed. "But… how did you manage to come here?" he enquired.
"It's not important, we will bring you back home son, where you truly belong… with your little friend of course." whispered my father, cutting short to the flow of questions, rubbing my back with that large hand of his.
My whole body went stiff, my thoughts frozen, that word, that idea occupying all the space in my brain. Home… that very word sending a chill down my spine, foreign to me… dreamed,… wanted… yet far out of reach, an inaccessible dream. However now… I had one…I had everything I had ever dreamed of… great friends, although some of them had a dirt, devious mind; people that cared for me; a wonderful lover… not to mention that little scale ball nipping at my ear… and now… a family… loving parents… and a place I could acall home. Everything sounded so… perfect… so perfect; I was in heaven… everything I had beaen dreaming about now fulfilled. A sly grin grew on my lips as I let myself go, savoring this moment; eyes closed, listening to their voices whispering appeasing words into my ears, their honeyed murmurs mixing, blending, adding to the low purr that echoed in my head, so deep and low it almost sounded like….
I tensed, a dreadful cold chill coursing through me, my body shaking, like struck by lightning, adrenaline shooting in my veins. These noises, they weren't purrs, they didn't sound like how Skye used to purr; no… it was deeper… scarier to; a bone-chilling rumble gaining intensity with each passing second.
My eyes shot open, my heart thumping in my chest; a wave of raw fear washing over me. In the blink of an eye their hands left me, their warmth dissipating, leaving me cold and trembling, my eyes looking for the source of the fierce growls, grimacing under a spike of pain, my shoulder aching like never before, a cold liquid drizzling down my skin, heat rising next to my face, hot acrid air billowing over my skin. I turned around, twitting my neck to see, discovering the pale faces of my parents backing away, staaring in awe at me… no… not at me… but… in my direction. Finally I saw, claws latched around my shoulders, curling inward, tearing through my clothes; his small body dropping low in an aggressive stance; his tail swishing slightly, brushing over my face; lips pulled back, trembling, revealing his small but sharp fangs, eyes blazing with anger, defying them to come closer. Wild panicked shivers rushed down my spine, energy rising, inside him, blue flames pouring from between his clenched jaws, a scorching heat radiating from the growing ball of fire. What's wrong with him? I thought; too horrified to move a finger, staring in shock, his gaze homed on my parents. I had to do something… but what? And… damn he kinda has a deep voice for such a small drake. The next instant the rumbling growls turned into a pitiful surprised squeak, my traits twisting in a grimace of pain long fiery tongue licking at my palm wrapped tight around Skye's muzzle, slipping on the slick scales as he violently shook his head, trying to free himself, warbling and squeaking pleadingly, bowing down apologetically under my severe look. I kept staring at him, angry yet curious, furious but at the same time surprised. It wasn't in his habits to snarl at random people without a reason; even less to act so aggressively. Usually although he would breath fire easily he wouldn't spit those deadly flames of his without a good reason, if he felt one of us was in danger… or just if someone dared to talk bad of any of us. But… why was he acting so defensively all of us a sudden? Why… why with my parents?
Those questions swirled in my head, assaulting me from every side, rendering me oblivious, blind and deaf to the outside world, entirely focused on the small blue dragon. Under normal circumstances I wouldn't mind too much, neither scolded him, nor punish him for using his fiery breath but… today… was a whole blue lot different. My hand tightened its grip around his squirming snout, bright flames sipping between my fingers, a thick grayish smoke enveloping his whole face. Skye stared back at me, his adorable face begging me to let go, eyes crying for forgiveness. A loud gulping noise filled the silence, the blue flames vanishing, a last puff of smoke bursting from his clamped maw. A deep relieved sigh escaped my mouth, slowly letting go of Skye, keeping a close eye on him as he ruffled himself, his wings beating a few time to help steady him on my shoulder, squawking in horror when his eyes fell on the bloody lines his claws had left in my shoulder, his tongue rushing to lap at the oozing wounds, tickling me all over, little sparkle of magic igniting whenever his snout bumped against my skin, a sweet warmth flooded my being, a sensation of well-being turning me numb, a goofy grin stretching on my lips as flows of his magic streamed inside me, the wounds healing, absorbed in a bright blue glow. "Thanks buddy…" I whispered, patting him between his horns, a cute satisfied chirp answering me as he nuzzled me back affectionately.
"Sorry for that…" I mumbled, turning my attention back to my frightened parents holding direly onto one another in a display of pure fear "he… he isn't like that… usually…" I sputtered, so embarrassed by Skye's behavior. "I don't want to criticize but this dragon should be better tamed." grumbled my father "what could he have done to us if you hadn't intervened." "No no no… relax… he… he wouldn't have done anything to you… he isn't aggressive toward people… well… most of the time… unless they deserved it." I mumbled, my gaze dropping a bit more with each word coming out of my mouth. "Don't apologize Ace." replied my grandfather in a soft reassuring tone "I believe that you wouldn’t have let that happen anyway. Beside; I suppose he is only a bit jealous to not get all the attention. You see my dear son dragons Aare quite possessive creatures and I suppose seeing you cuddle Ace upset him." he continued at my father’s attention "Excuse us, with all the issues we had with dragons we prefer to be cautious around them." "I… I understand… but… be reassured he won't arm you… right Skye?" I retorted, glaring at the small dragon sitting comfortably on my shoulder. Huffing loudly he bowed his snout down slowly in some sort of nod. "See?" I let out, relieved. They shrugged, lips pinched, looking not convinced at all. The general smiled, observing us with the same pride and joy from before "and on top of that be is still young and enquiring, it will take some time for him to learn what to do and not to do." he added "and I'm sure Ace will do a wonderful job of teaching Skye those notion. Also… I have to say it is quite a fitting name." he complimented, fondling Skye's back, the crooning little dragon arching his back, purring deeply, nuzzling without a second thought the old wrinkly hand. It was… puzzling to say the least, why was he so affectionate with him and so vehement with my parents, his eyes becoming colder each time they fell on them.
"Sorry, took me longer than expected to get away from the ladies!" shouted a familiar voice, a warm hand falling on my shoulder, a thrill of raw happiness shaking my whole frame, warmth flooding me. Spinning around, grinninh toothily I found myself facing a, just as happy Ulrick, face warmed by a broad smile. My heart racing, beating harder, faster in my chest, my lips burning to kiss him, my eyes filling up with stars. Nevertheless I tensed, holding back, silencing the ragging desire to kiss him right in front of everyone. He didn't seem keen on taking the first step either so… perhaps it was better keeping that for later.
"Prince Ulrick!" yelped several voices, chairs pushed back, racking against the floor, dozens of people getting up, standing straight, formal, wearing solemn faces, bowing down respectfully before him. My parents were no exception, deeply bowing before the sovereign. Ulrick didn't seem to notice them, only waving a hand at them, only focused on me, devouring me with his gaze, my whole body shivering as his eyes strolled around, analyzing everything they saw. He threw a quick look over my shoulder, noticing my parents, glancing back and forth between me and them, frowning, intrigued.
A long minute went by, no word exchanged between the two of us, the silence deep, oppressing, suffocating, even Skye had Stoppard moving, no one even daring to flinch.
"Sire Alexander, lady Eleanor, what a pleasure to see you there!" he finally exclaimed, his voice echoing through the room, n heart-warming smile spread across his face as he walked to them, grabbing my mother's gloved hand and depositing a polite kiss on the top of it, then giving my father and grandfather a frantic handshake, the two of them bending before the prince, adopting the most serious expression. "I am so glad you could come. I hope the journey wasn't too long." he exclaimed with an astonishing fainted happiness; the illusion absolutely perfect, the smile and words sounding full of sincerity. "Oh no it was really enjoyable, leaving our realm is such a pleasure; we haven't seen the vast world in so long." replied my mother genuinely. "Beside; it is an honor to be committed to your castle; we wouldn’t miss such invitation for anything." "And on top of that we had a wonderful surprise once we arrived." added my mother, nudging herself closer to my father, both of them looking as happy as it could be. "Oh really? May I know what it is?" Enquired Ulrick, frowning. I found myself grinning proudly, amused by his questioning gaze probing each of us, searching for an explanation. "Ace my dear could you come here please?" demanded my father, making room for me. Urlick watched, dumbfounded, mouth opened in surprise, eyes bulging wide, giving him a stupid look. "My prince, I am proud to present you, although you already seem very familiar with each other, my son Ace." "No way…" he mumbled, crumbling in disbelief, staring at me with a puzzled gaze. I nodded smiling back at him. "Well… that's… an… unexpected turn of event…" he stammered, scratching the back of his head, for the first time speechless. "Indeed but it is for the better." confirmed my father. "Please my prince, forgive my curiosity but I'd love to hear how you met our son?" purred my mother. "Well… he… it's embarrassing… he used to be one of my devoted servants but if I had known of his ranking I wouldn't have allowed it. Anyway, overtime we became friends, before he became a dragon rider." "Although it's gonna be hard to ride your mount right now." chuckled my grandpa, gently pouncing me.
Everyone laughed, warmth pouring inside me, it felt great to be with all of them, laughing and talking, careless about all those pesky nobles spying on us from a distance, oblivious to the turmoil of the outside world. Yet one of us wasn’t so happy, deep growls still filling my ears, humming in a small scaly throat,. Every time I looked at Skye it was to find him throwing sneaky glares at my Parents, darting his menacing gaze at them, growling and rumbling nonstop, still holding tight to my shoulders, his talons poking at my skin. Why was he acting like this? Had he sensed, smelled, seen… or felt something I didn't notice? Or is he just jealous? Envying? I couldn't tell, my Mind so full of happy thought there was no room left for worries.
"Please, accept my apologies but I will have to cut short to this… assonating discussion but it is time to celebrate. I hope you don't mind borrowing Ace from you. I'm certain you have many things to say but…" "Certainly, do as it pleases you. What parents would we be if we didn't allow our child to enjoy themselves? Go Ace, we will have plenty of time to discuss later." replied my mother, giving me her permission.
I didn't loose a second, giving each of them a grateful hug before leaving, following Ulrick.
"So… prince Ace… that's gonna take some time getting used to." he let out once we were far enough, gently bumping in my side. "Yes… I… I can hardly believe it myself." I mumbled, still unused to hear those words, sounding odd, foreign to me. "And you who were worried about ranking." he added, leading the way, grabbing on it's way two glasses of Champaign, taking the first, handing me the second one. "Let's celebrate that!" he shouted, the thin glass jingling as we drank taking a sip of the sparkling alcohol, a delightful warmth washing over me as the alcohol trickled down my throat, Skye curiously sniffing the beverage, warbling curiously, snarling when the scent assaulted his nostrils. "Hehe that's not for you Skye." I giggled, poking at his snout with a finger. He huffed, finding purchase in nibbling at my ear instead. "So… what did you think about doing?" he questioned, taking another sip. "Well… I was about to join the other dragon riders before it all happened." I let out, staring at the golden liquid sloshing in my glass, a thin white foam forming on top of it. "Really… you're gonna get bored, they're talking serious business. I bet you're gonna fall asleep before the end of diner." "Hold on, did you say them talking serious business. Can someone pinch me?" Skye chirped, happily complying with a scaring eagerness, nipping at my right ear. "No you're not dreaming." laughed Ulrick "they're preparing for an important mission so… yes for once they're as serious as they could be." "Damn… that's a nice change…" I whispered, massaging my ear. "So what do you say you spend the rest of the night with me? Interested?" he enquired invitingly. "You already know my answer." I replied, purring, swiftly nudging myself closer, making it look like I was telling him some important secret. "Just wanted to hear you say It." he shushed. He took my hand, our fingers mingling discretely.
He led me through the maze of tables, shaking hands, giving accolades, until we reached the emperor's table where the emperor sat on a massive rich throne right in the middle, the members of his government dispatched on both sides, ministers, generals, admirals enjoying a privileged perch overlooking the rest of the room. There were still a few empty chairs waiting to be taken, exposed in plain view, near the emperor’s right side, so close to him in fact I knew for sure it was Ulrick's place. Immediately servants rushed to us, preparing everything with quick, expert motions, two of team holding a chair, inviting us to take a seat.
It felt so weird to have all those people benevolently servicing me, making sure I was pleased, offering me drinks I didn't even know the names, asking me if I needed something. It felt so odd to be taken care of like this. I couldn't believe I used to be one of them; it felt like it had been a millennium ago. I leaned back in the comfy armchair, Skye jumping from my shoulder, softly landing on the table, sniffing around inquisitively. No one seemed to mind it at all, even fondling him when he padded by.
Moist hot air blasted over my face, a massive shadow masking the light. I looked up, trembling anxiously, shrinking down under an insisting gaze, a deep rumble traversing me. ""So you finally decided to join us." let out the massive dragon, his golden scales shimmering in the light, bathing my face in a rain of gold, his bulky snout hanging right over us. I didn't know who he was talking to, his eyes darted on me… or at least it felt like it. Squirming in my chair I looked down, incapable of withstanding that burning gaze any longer. "Don't look away Ace, there is no reason to. After all… you’re one of us now." I tensed, what was that supposed to mean? I stared back at him, trying to guess what he meant. An amused grin grew over his scaly lips, giving him an even brighter look. "Quit bothering him you pesky oversized lizard." huffed Ulrick, trying with all his might to push the large muzzle away, the dragon barely flinching, staring amusingly at the prince's vain efforts, giggling provokingly, applying a bit more pressure, shoving Ulrick back hard into his seat. "You'll need more than that for me to obey." he chuckled, taunting the prince. "Whatever… what ado you want?" "Me? Nothing; just wanted to say hi and…" he stopped, throwing quick looks around, his snout inching closer to us "and tell you you form a really nice couple." he purred, giving each of us a friendly nuzzle, his broad raspy tongue dashing over our cheeks, leaving a slimy trail behind. "Ewwww… that's gross!" yelped Ulrick, washing it away with a tissue "that's one of the many reasons I hate dragons!" he shouted, throwing the saliva-drenched tissue at the dragon's face. "You won't be saying that when you will be gifted with one." "Yeah later maybe." grumbled Ulrick. "You’re a strong headed one aren't you?" he sighed, abandoning there, instead turning his attention toward Skye, wandering around the table, tail wagging happily. He grinned, snout booping against the much smaller dragon. Skye happily squeaked, instantly ramming himself into the emperor's dragon, claws latched around the massive snout, grinding himself against the golden dragon, humming and purring happily. "I missed you to…" purred the dragon, lifting Skye off of the ground, throwing him up, Skye landing flat on top of the golden head, chirping happily as he slid down the long sinuous neck.
"That's gonna keep him busy for a while." I let out, smirking, watching Skye play hide and seek between the long spikes covering the emperor's dragon back, the bigger drake twisting and craning his neck around to keep track of the energetic little drake.
I took a deep breathe, getting comfortable in the chair, observing the crowd from above, starting from where all the dragons and their riders sat, then took a long trip through the maze of tables, watching the endless ballet of servants going from one guest to another, while the people chatted, laughed, exchanged stories and jokes. I noticed in the corner of my eyes instruments being installed on a small stage, musicians outlining a few notes. Finally I found them, sitting aat the saame table I found them, the three of them together, looking well and happy, my mother even waving a hand in my direction, looking so proud and delighted.
"So… happy?" whispered a thrilling voice sending shivers down my spine. "Yes… thanks to you…" I whispered back, planting a discreet kiss on his cheek, making sure no one had seen us. For the first time he blushed, looking embarrassed, his lips twitching in a forced smile, his eyes going nuts, looking all around us, heavy globe of sweat dripping from his face.
"Don't look so shy about it; you're the one who kissed me in front of your father with no restrain." I shushed teasingly. "Scream that louder I think they didn't hear you." he grumbled ironically. "Dude what's wrong with you tonight?" I growled, crossing my arms over my chest, grumpily turning away. "Sorry it's just… none of these pretty fuckfaces know about my sexual orientation…" "They will find out eventually. I retorted. "If you keep being so lewd about it they sure will." he chuckled. "I don't get why it's bothering you like this?" I sighed. "That… has to do with the second reason I don't like these banquets things…" he grumbled "because… all the ladies you saw earlier…" "You mean those mad girls tha took you away? They're insane! What's wrong with them?" I chuckled bitterly, jealousy lurking around my heart, seeping it's venom in my veins. "Yes… those girls… they're… sort of fighting for me." "They say the prince has all the ladies crawling at his feet." I giggled "I see it's no joke." He didn't smile, only shrugging, his face darkened by a grim expression. "Did… did I… did I say something wrong?" I mumbled, reaching out with a hand. "I can't deny it's true I've got all the girls of the empire at my feet, dreaming of marrying me… but I don't care, I don't want any of them." he hushed, looking down, his hand grabbing mine, squeezing it tight "I only want you." "Then send them away!" I almost shouted. "It's not that simple… most of them are the daughter of important people nf all around the world; I can't just kick them away without risking a diplomatic incident." "That sucks!" I let out, desperate to help him. "I couldn't agree more." "There is one way though…" I mumbled after a few minutes of silence, a slow music rising, blending perfectly with the constant blabber of the crowd below us. "I'm listening." he said, quizzically raising an eyebrow. "Make it official." I suggested. "What!?" "The two of us! Let's make it known to the world." "Are you… are you serious?" he mumbled, looking astonished. "Yeah of course!" I happily chirped "why wouldn't I?" "I… wow… I wasn't expecting that from you." he mumbled, scratching the back of his head. "I… wasn’t expecting it either…" I mumbled, coming down from my little cloud "I don't know what took me…"
We laughed, all the seriousness vanishing for a short minute… a too short minute. Seeing him smile, laugh so frantically brought warmth to my heart; I wanted it to last forever. "Although… were you sincere about it?" "Yes… I… I suppose… I… don't really know… I love you and all but I'm… apprehending a bit." I mumbled, not so sure anymore, backing away before the idea. On one end I wanted it so badly, to not be afraid, to assume my love for him in broad daylight… but on the other end I was anxious, apprehending what the other would say. I could already hear them whispering, accusing me, spreading more rumors about me… about us. "You're still thinking about what they'll say?" "Yes… a bit." "Don't bother, let them think what they want, let them spit their venom it won't hurt us. If you really want it then we will." he whispered, grabbing a hand, wrapping it in his loving embrace, our gaze meeting, burning with true passion for each other. I wish I could Kiss him right now; forget the world, those annoying self-centered nobles and just cuddle with him.
A loud sound broke the silence, ripping the peaceful atmosphere, a cold wind crossing the room, making me tense on my chair, squeezing his hand even harder. A deep silence fell on the assembly, everyone getting up, turning to face us, the rest twitting their neck to see; even the band had stopped its languorous music. A man advanced before the table, facing the crowd, holding a strange instrument in his hand. "Silence please; the emperor wishes to speak." he announced solemnly.
The silence deepened, whispers stopping, not a breath could be heard. The emperor stood up, his ample robes ruffling behind him, his majestic dragon towering over him, glancing from above at everyone, imposing silence and respect, keeping a close eye on his rider.
"My dear subjects!" started the emperor, his loud voice thundering in the respectful silence. "Today as you know is a very special day, not only because we are about to put an end to a conflict that has ravaged our lands, taken too many lives for too long; but also because…" he stopped, glancing at his dragon, a tiny, almost invisible glint crossing his gaze "but also because today… today is the day where my son… my pride and joy, the one you all know and love… Ulrick!" he called, theatrically, purposely keeping the crowd suspended to his lips, begging him to keep speaking, to spill out the big secret. Ulrick got up, round of applauses filling the room. It took several minutes to calm everyone down. "Tonight; my dear son will choose… his partner for life and beyond!" he proclaimed, more applauses echoing in the room, dragons making as much noise as possible, roaring, breathing colorful flames, gorgeous fireworks in the prince's honor. Everyone looked happy, calling him, cheering up, wishing him good luck, intertwined voices blossoming in an ear-splitting scream. Meanwhile the emperor stood still, observing the roaring assembly with a satisfied grin, looking up at his dragon, the two of them giggling, eyes sparkling with malice. However not all of us were delighted by this news; me the first, jaws agape, eyes wide, my brain blanking, my hands clenched tight around whatever they held. My heart skipped a beat, drumming in my chest, dread seeping inside me. A partner for life… what was that supposed to mean? Why was it causing the emperor to laugh so much? Would he have to choose… a wife?
That idea made tears well up in my eyes. I… I couldn't believe it ,was over so quickly but… deep inside I knew it made sense; the imperial family had to have a lineage… a successor, a heir to take the throne after they passed away… and even if he didn't want… I knew he wouldn't have a choice.
I threw him a glance, not knowing what to say, hoping to find reassurance win him. Sadly he looked just as dumbstruck as I was, standing still, arms hanging limp against his body, speechless, a look of utter disbelief on his face. He took a step back, falling in his seat, looking down shivering slightly. "Already…" he murmured in a barely audible tone "damn… I didn't expect it to happen now… thought I'd have more time…". "So you knew?" I growled, anger boiling inside me. "I… yes… yes I did…» he let out, not daring to face me "but… I thought it would only happen in a few years. I thought I’d have more time… not that it'd happen so quickly." I barely heard him, jaws clenched shut, an unstoppable rage flooding my veins. "When were you planning on telling me about this?" I hissed, trembling, enraging. "I… I… never…» he mumbled, dipping his head low in guilt "I… I thought we'd never have to go to such extent…" he sighed powerlessly "but it appears to me now that my father had other plans in mind for us. I wished he had opposed in person instead of stabbing me in the back like this." he let out, frustration peaking in his voice.
"So now!" kept going the emperor, so carried away by his speech he was oblivious to our despair, only his dragon kept throwing us sorry glances "let's make this night memorable; celebrate, eat and drink as you like; party all night log, dance until you can't stand up!" he stopped at the pinnacle of his speech, taking a deep inhale, still grinning satisfied. "Now" he continued, addressing the band "let us listen to your music." The leader bowed his head respectfully as the first notes of music rose in the room.
"Still can't believe you hid this from me!" I let out, at the peak of frustration, fingers clenched tight around the edges of the table,. Anger surged within me, boiling hot lava coursing in my veins. "Look Ace… I'm sorry… I… I thought he'd understand my decision… I thought we'd never have to go through this but… no matter what happens you are the only one I love and nothing can change that." he let out, cautiously grabbing my hands, squeezing them to the point where it hurts but I let nothing transpire. I wish I could believe him… but… I had serious doubts.
"Excuse me my prince." Simpered a sweet sugary voice coming to my ears. Our hands broke, our attention turning to a young looking girl dressed in a long thin tunic squeezed so tight around her she could have been completely naked, her breasts bouncing slightly at she leaned her tall body over the table, long auburn hairs falling on her shoulders. She was beautiful there is no denying it but her beauty had little effect on both of us. Ulrick threw me an apologetic look, starting a chat with the lady, keeping up a kind and understanding face, a broad smile warming his face. I stood there, sitting on my chair, idly fondling a crooning Skye showing me his belly, his little paws kicking in the air, scraping at my skin with playful chirps. Slowly, imperceptibly anger built up inside me, a burning desire to send her away blooming in my veins, a tide of raw hatred coursing through me, urging me to get her far from Ulrick, to kick her butt to make her understand if I had to; to protect my love from all those pesky flies assaulting him; tormenting him. I remained silent, keeping my eyes off of them, knowing that if I looked at them I wouldn't be able to control myself.
Minutes went by, turning into hours, plates passing by before us, filled to the brim with more food than I could eat although everything looked delicious, others not giving a shit and gorge themselves happily until their belly couldn’t take anymore. Skye was one of them, lying sprawled across the table, rolled on his back, maw gaping, tongue lolling out on the side of his lower jaw, eyes glassy with a look of pure satisfaction, his exposed belly looking plump and full. I chuckled to myself amusingly, rubbing his scales as he fell asleep after a well-earned meal. Next to me Ulrick was still busy; the first girl had left us a while ago, unfortunately only to be replaced by another. Then another came, quickly followed afterward by a third. This little chitchat kept going on during most of the meal, forcing me into silence, and seclusion, a world of eternal loneliness opening it's doors to me, welcoming me in it’s cold, discarded embrace, an invisible wall separating me from my love, each of these pesky girls adding a brick to that imperceptible barrier.
What were you thinking Ace? It would have happened anyway. What? You thought you were important, meaningful to him? You're just a piece of trash, a mere toy to him, his little obedient and dumb plaything. And what do all kids do when they get tired of their toy? They throw it away.
Those words echoed in my head, haunting me, a sense of dread and danger coursing inside me, vicious venom made of doubt and pain spreading within me. I tried to hold them back, to keep them away but these dark thoughts kept coming back, each time stronger while my resistances only weakened, faltering before their ruthless assaults.
I took a sneak peak to my right, noticing he was still talking with a pair of twins who wore clothes that put their gorgeous curves to an undeniable advantage. They were so absorbed in their conversation they didn't even notice me staring, snarling in barely contained rage. What was wrong with me? I had never felt like that before, so frustrated, so inhumanely angry, filled with an unquenchable rage, a single burning desire pumping in my heart.
Luckily they left, not without a deep bow, offering the both of us a perfect view of their most convincing arguments, even managing to put a red hue onto my cheeks. "Pfew that was longer than I expected." sighed Ulrick when they were out of ear reach, turning in my direction, a tired, apologetic smile trying to make it's way on his lips "sorry you had to witness this It's unbearable for me so I can't imagine how it is for you." he whispered softly, caressing my cheek with his cool hand, making me feel slightly better. "It's a freaking freak show." sighed Ulrick, his complains sounding empty and deprived of actual meaning to my ears. "If you hate talking to them why do you keep doing it? Why don't you just send them away?" I growled, anger welling up inside me. "What?! Ace I told you I can't; it… it doesn't work like this… I can't just kick people out of this room because they piss me off." "You can, you're the prince after all, no one will ever question your decision." He stared at me in disbelief, shocked by my words, unable to protest, only staring back at me with an unprecedented intensity. You're… you're upset aren't you?" he mumbled regretfully. "Guess…" I only grumbled, swallowing a large piece of meat, biting down hard on it to contain my growing anger. "I… I know it's hard… but it's also… complicated for me." he mumbled, his voice filled with unspoken sorrow "Ace… my only wish is to be with you but… it's not as simple as I'd want it to be." he sighed "Trust me I want you with all my heart it's just… I don't know how to say it… it's just… my father… well he knows about our relationship but… I guess traditions are stronger than him… and all these people… they won't understand… and…" "Excuse me my lord." called an unfamiliar but alreadz annoying voice.
We both turned our eyes in her direction. Yes her; one of those annoying leach girls? How many of them were they? Did they just pop out of nowhere by some sort of magic? "I would have appreciated to… have a talk with you…" she said, fainting nervousness. "Certainly, I would gladly…" "No!" I shouted, slamming my fit in the table, glasses jumping, the liquid inside them shifting slightly. "Excuse me lady but we were in the middle of a really important talk so if you could please go away and come back later… somewhere about… never we would be very grateful!" I rumbled, darting blazing eyes at her. "Oh! How rude of you!" she gasped, stuttering as if I had just struck her in the chest. "Do you know who I am?" "No I don't and I don't care; you could be the daughter of whatever dickhead in that room I wouldn't care less so go away before I kick your butt so hard you won't be able to sit for a week!" I roared, the girl backing away.
"What a Rude man you are? This is no way to treat a lady?" she gasped with an outstandingly true-looking shock. "Please miss Eleanor, I beg you to forgive my friend. He… he had a rough day and he is… a bit upset.» exclaimed Ulrick, intervening, cutting short to the escalade, throwing me a pleading glance, begging me to stop; "Sorry Ace but… we'll have to resume this discussion later. I hope you don’t mine." he added, staring at me with heartbreaking regrets filling his eyes. "Alright…" I sighed, fondling Skye's exposed, plump belly, trying to contain my boiling rage "I'll be waiting." "Thank you…" he let out in a low murmur "Sorry for that miss, what did you wish to talk about?" "For you my prince I would do anything… but before I would like to give friend a friendly advice; he should learn to hold his tongue; it could get him into trouble." I only grunted, but inside I was boiling, anger burning, a wild fire ragging within me, a heated venom coursing in my veins. Who does she think she is? That advice sounded more like a menace, a barely masked one on top of that, yet no one seemed to notice it.
They started talking, completely oblivious to me, her voice, every time it reached my ears fueling my rising anger with even more hatred. Even fondling Skye's bloated belly wasn't enough to take my mind away from them. I could see right through her, through hear little game, playing the shy and innocent one perfectly while in reality manipulating the one she spoke to, leading them to think she was a just a genuine, adorable and timid girl. Did it work? It was hard to say but… once again I felt alone, separated from Ulrick, the invisible barrier between us coming back in full force, tougher than ever, a tall wall that nothing could breach, through which I could only watch them… and enrage, my hands trembling, shaking with each wave of raw anger.
"Excuse me Ace, do you mind me joining?" called a familiar voice, my whole frame tensing when it reached my ears, a truly happy smile appearing on my face, Skye's head rising up, his tired, hazy eyes illuminating with joy, a happy trill slipping out of his maw before he fell down again sprawling even further on the table. "Sure; has a seat;" I replied, pointing at an empty chair in front of me "It's not like they'll mind you joining." I added with a meaningful glare at the rest of the table. He grinned back at me, the sincerity in that simple expression heartwarming as he sat. My grandfather… felt so odd to say it, to think that we were linked by blood but I was grateful he was. If there was a competition for the greatest grandpa in the world in my mind he would have won it with ease. His honesty relieving in a place where a word could trigger mayhem, making me feel immediately at ease with him, so comfy I felt like I could speak truly to him. And on top of that it helped me get my mind off of her; her pathetic attempt at flirting with the prince.
I tried my hardest to focus on my grandfather, the general, all in armor, still wearing his sword attached to his waist, yet idly fondling a groaning little drake.
I froze, sensing a shift in the atmosphere, my heart tamping faster, my blood like freezing, fear, cold as ice coursing through me. The room had gone quiet, not a sound, not a breathe, not even a rustle, a ruffle of a wing or… or one of those cute little warbles to disturb the silence; even the musicians had stopped, petrified in their last stance, holding their instruments. My grandfather was smiling, looking at something from the corner his eyes, his focus completely and utterly shifting away from me. Behind him, all the guests were frozen, their face turned toward us, many, too many pairs of eyes pointing in the same direction, a sea of pale faces wearing a strange concoction of shocked, surprised and amazed expressions. What was happening? My heart jumped in my chest, my whole body aching, like torn apart, pain exploding within me, as if I had been shot through the heart. Slowly, extremely sorry, shaking in fright, my hands squeezing the first thing then found, fingers latching tight around my chair's armrests until loud cracks filled the silence, bouncing against the high walls, sounding like the whole room was on the brink of collapse. No… no it can't be… I thoughts in disbelief, unable to pear my eyes away from the sight I discovered, a blank cry stuck in my throat.
There, right next to me, at arm’s reach Ulrick…was… . No… no it couldn't be happening. I couldn't accept what my eyes sent me, trying to convince me it could only be a dream, an awful nightmare… that I would wake up. Yet… it couldn't be more real… to my own despair it was truly happening. I closed my eyes, biting down on my tongue to not scream, the coppery taste of my own blood flooding my mouth along with a dull ache. I couldn’t look away, attracted by that show like a magnet. I crumbled, despair crashing down on me, all hope abandoning me; leaving me to stare helplessly, emptily, unable to do anything else than just watch in horror, powerless. Ulrick hadn't moved, stuck, frozen like the rest, stiff like a wood plank, a pale statue of a prince as astonished and dumbstruck as I was, eyes bulging wide, his hands extended forward, as if to catching something or rather… someone in that case. The girl, whoever she was, was half lying over the table, a few toppled over glasses making the scene look like she had somehow tripped over something and fell forward, ending with her lips pressed against Ulrick's own in a kiss… not that… unwanted from my point of view. Was it just an accident a silly clumsiness I couldn't tell, but my guts were screaming it wasn't one. Ulrick held her with caution, their lips still joined in a long kiss, her eyes closed in bliss, his wide open, mirrors reflecting his surprise. I wanted to stop this, to toss her away, far from Ulrick, her pitiful attempts at seducing him starting to get on my nerves ye I remained sitting, unable to move a finger, feeling so useless.
I kept my eyes glued to them, unable to look anywhere else, wishing for her to just catch fire and vanish, turning to mere ashes and leave Ulrick Alone; prayed for someone to just separate them and put her back to her place.
Sadly none of these things happened, leaving me powerless before the scene, my guts twisting, my heart aching, as if an invisible hand was trying to rip it from my chest. Suddenly applauses rose, disturbing the silence, the sound of clapping hands pulling everyone out of their shocked state. A lone man stood up, still applauding, soon joined by a second, then a third. In the blink of an eye round of applauses exploded in the room, intertwined voices shouting their happiness, adoring the two, as if that simple kiss had sealed their union… wish it could be the same for us. Envy slithered into my heart, anger and frustration blossoming, fueled by darker thoughts. My fists balled, clenching so tight it hurt, raw anger pumping in my veins, a ragging inferno ready to be unleashed upon her. The applauses gained in intensity, sounding like the deep rumble of thunder, voices rising toward the ceiling, their words of praise and blessing for the… lovely… couple raining down on me, volleys of sharp arrows, a tear pearling at the corner of my eyes.
I let go, my head dipping low, my teeth gritted, not letting a noise get past my lips, trembling in a mix of rage, sorrow and despair; regrets leaving a bitter taste in my mouth. I tensed something warm and smooth poking at my hand, low worried squeaks reaching my ear, breathing through the maelstrom of my emotions. My eyes cracked open, a blue form appearing in the center of my vision, his worried expression so obvious even through the blur of my teary eyes. Shuddering under his affectionate nuzzle I smiled, slowly reaching for his snout, giving the back of his skull a gentle rub, right between his horns, eliciting a low elated purr from his maw, his slimy agile tongue dashing out, covering my forearm in thick, warm dragon saliva. I felt… better in some way… glad to see not everyone had abandoned me. I took a deep breathe, putting on a cheerful expression, my hands clapping automatically, trying to look just as delighted as the rest of them… but inside I could only curse myself for accepting this, for letting this happen, cringing rather than smiling. However, from the corner of my eyes I noticed someone wasn't as happy… or rather there were a few that weren't as satisfied with that turn of events, a black and blue dragon and a few other ones, all of them throwing me sorry looks, adopting apologetic and understanding faces, a few even baring their fangs, letting out menacing hisses and snarls that no one but us heard. I grinned at them, glad I wasn't the only one to smell something fishy, to see the truth.
Weirdly enough the emperor remained stoic, formal, his face showing no emotion, looking as if this fake display of affection was nothing to his eyes, mere powder to the ayes actually… he even looked like he was waiting for something to happen.
Finally they broke away, Ulrick staying there, petrified in that same silly expression of surprise and shock while she jiggled embarrassedly, looking down, keeping up that fainted innocence with an astonishing skill.
"I… I am terribly sorry my prince… I tripped over the carpet… I didn’t mean to…" she stammered, her cheeks even turning a slight red: “No… it's… alright…" sputtered Ulrick, his face as red as a ruby. I gritted my teeth even harder, holding back the need to yell at her, to tell her her little charm wasn't working, that she'd rather get lost before I did something stupid.
"Is there something wrong?" enquired my grandfather once the euphoria had worn out, tilting his head to the side, his sharp, exerted gaze observing me. "No, nothing." "Ace you are a bad liar, I can see something is bothering you; you can tell me what it is." "Well… it's… it's not important…" I mumbled, a crimson red hue spreading on my cheeks "it's… personal… I don't want to talk about it." "It's alright, I won't bother you if you don't wish to talk it's your right." He whispered softly, his low voice having a nice ring to it; making me feel like I could spill my heart and share my feelings with him yet words remained stuck in my throat. "Beside I'm not here to get into your private life, what you do only concern you." "What do you want then?" I stammered, puzzled, my hands shaking, gripping the table's edge. "Don't worry I just wish to know more about you; actually we didn't get that much time to talk together and I am… very eager to hear your story." "My story?" I enquired, a cold chill running down my spine. "Yes your story; I'm curious to know how you ended up here, in such good company." He let out; rubbing Skye's belly, deep purrs feeling the space between us; Skye's paws kicking heratically; tiny claws curling in bliss, pushing against my grandfather hand, not in protest but to play, warbling cutely when I joined, exposing his belly even more for additional rubs. "Well… I'd s…ay it's quite the long story…" I sputtered, unsure of where to begin or, even worse, what to say. "Don't overthink it; just count it to me as far as you can recall." "Ok… sure… but…" I let out, squirming uncomfortably on my chair, attracting a few glances from other guest and from a very bloated dragon. "Certainly; you can ask me anything." Replied my grandfather, his shout almost managing to cover the constant noise from hundred of intertwined voices. "Simply… why do you want to know?" I murmured, my face on the verge of melting, my cheeks so hot I started to fear I could catch fire at any moment. "Well… I could say I moved mountains to find you but it would be far below the truth so I would like to know how and why I could never find you. It must be an interesting tale and I would love having you counting it to me… and perhaps if you're nice I could tell you about some of my own misadventures." He chuckled, eyebrows wavering meaningfully, a malicious glimmer crossing his eyes. Despite myself I giggled, blushing slightly, thought of that embarrassing scene coming back to me; earning a questioning stare from Skye.
I took a deep breath, diving head first into those old memories of my tormented childhood, the life at the orphanage, the struggle to survive, to find my place in a society that didn't want me, the disregard, the fear, the constant denials; the benevolence of the prince, the life as a servant… Skye… and all the rest, a sly smile materializing, growing on my lips as I climbed back from the darkest, oldest memories I had, my gaze dropping low, searching for Skye's own, sadly he had fallen asleep, purring in his slumber. My heart sank, a dull ache spreading in my chest, noticing, in a reflection Ulrick, so absorbed in his conversation he was oblivious to my presence, as if I didn't exist anymore. "Well I…" I can't remember everything but I… don't remember everything…" I started, scratching the back of my head, avoiding my grandpa's awaiting gaze. "I don't ask you to; just, start from as far as you can recall." "Well I… the first thing I remember is… the orphanage." "An orphanage? Where?" he interrupted me, eyes bulging wide, his lower jaw dropping in surprise. "Well… here… in the empire… near the capital if I remember right." I mumbled, taken aback by the rather pressing look of his face. "That… that would explain why I could never find you." he let out, thinking out loud "What do you mean?" "Well I always thought those who had kidnapped you hid somewhere in the south; I didn't expect them to move so far away… yet… I suppose it makes sense; like this it would be harder to find you… a grain of sand in the desert." he whispered, loosing himself in his thoughts "anyway, please forgive my interruption, please keep going."
I nodded, taking a deep breathe before opening the gates of my mind and letting memories of another time flow out, some of them bringing only pain and sorrow to me. I counted him everything, bluntly, without detours, without makeup only depicting the harsh reality, a cold truth that sometime made me shiver. As words poured out of my mouth in a long continuous stream I could witness his face darkening, his expression turning into a grim mask where sorrow and horror merged. "How could they… those bastards… how could they abandon you like this? How could they dump you like some garbage? Don't they have any respect for life." he ranted, grumbling insults under his breath, fists clenched, trying to contain his bubbling anger. "I suppose I only was a… tool for them." I sighed, hating that word as it slipped past my lips. He tensed, his face turning a pale white, frozen on a mask of shock "In their eyes I was a tool… just a mean to get what they wanted… and when they achieved their ends they didn't need me anymore" "That's… probable…" he admitted, reaching out, extending a hand in my direction. My first reaction to back away, heart pounding in my chest, muscles tensed like ropes then, as his hand made contact with my face, warmth spreading under my skin, finding myself leaning in the affectionate embrace.
"I am so sorry, terribly sorry you had to go through this but it is the trial life puts us through that forge the strongest men." "If you say so…" I sighed, not that confident in that theory. "I'm not only saying; I'm certain of it; I can see that although life was far from easy for you you made it to the top starting from scratch and you even became a dragon rider. Speaking of which I’d really love to hear this part of the story more in depth. Do you mind counting it to the old man I am?" he asked, his voice shaking suddenly looking tired, bending under the weight of his long years of living, his face wrinkling and dropping. I giggled, knowing he only pretended, Skye chirping amusingly to, nibbling at my grandfather's chin playfully. "Sure."
And I told him everything, the announcement of one of a newborn dragon freshly hatched, the panic, the desperate search for him, my investigation in the vault; a part of the story that made bosh his and my eyes sparkle with pride, my attempt at following his trail, and my surprise the next morning when I had found Skye in my bed, and discovered that, by some inexplicable miracle I could see again. "I am impressed." he let out when the last word left my mouth, my tongue tired from speaking so much. Skye on his end was observing us, still lying on his back, sprawled on the table, his radiant blue gaze stuck to me in an affectionate look. "It's pretty much just lucak… well at least I can’t stop thinking it's all just due to pure luck. I whispered, Skye's ears dropping in disappointment, his eye filling with tears, his lips twitching, his low whimpers hurting me more than any weapon could. "Hey… sorry… I… I didn't mean it." I mumbled, hands wrapping around his belly, finding him quite heavier than usual as I brought him close to my chest, cradling him slowly, hugging him close, letting him burry his snout wherever it pleased him, my hands rubbing his flank as his clawed paws rested against my chest, his whole body shuddering, his muffed squeaks turning into deep purrs. "I think he understood that." chuckled my grandfather, observing us in a respectful silence, not wishing to disturb the moment "but I think you are wrong; you see I believe dragon have their way of seeing through people, they can see things we don't, or rather feel them. It's all a matter of guts and I believe young Skye think you were the right person to bond with."
To my own dismay Skye chirped approvingly, his head peaking up, his draconic eyes plunging in mine. No words were spoken but none were needed, everything that needed so be said was, quietly; with one simple stare. I felt warmth creep over me as I held him even closer, his snout nestling itself in my neck, his tongue sneakily licking at one of my sensitive spot, making me squirm and giggle uncontrollably.
In front of us the general simply watched in the most perfect silence, looking happy and proud, relieved to. And…for a brief instant I forgot all about them….
Yet they couldn't be forgotten for long, she was still here, still flirting with Ulrick, displaying the entirety of her talents to try and seduce the prince. And he… why was he still talking to her; why was he even listening to her senseless blabbers. Could it be… could it be working? Could he betray me like this and fall for her? I couldn't believe it.
"Ace… I can see something is on your mind; you know you can tell me if you have any issue." whispered my grandfather, his strong hand latching around my shoulder, his gaze planting into mine. I tensed, raising my mental defenses, feeling that sharp gaze probing at my very soul. I didn’t flinch, keeping my lips, withstanding his inquisitive stare with all my determination. Finally we broke the stare. "Very well then; if you don't wish to talk I won't force you." he let out, leaning back in his chair. I let go of Skye, the small dragon padding around the table, eying a plump fruit in a basket, thick drool gathering at the edge of his maw. "Still hungry after everything you ate." I chuckled, watching his jaws clamp shut around his prize, trotting back to us with his muzzle bulging wide around the fruit, tail wagging happily behind him. "You’re just a walking stomach you know that:" I shushed, rubbing his already bloated belly. "Well, suppose he's got to eat a lot if he wants to grow into a big strong dragon." replied my grandfather, patting Skye on the head. "I'm not that sure. If I'd let him his daay would be like, sleeping, eating, playing and eating again." I snorted. Qhe general only grinned, nodding in acknowledgment.
"Ace… I'd like to ask you something; it's something I have in mind for quite a while but… didn't know how to bring it." "Sure, go ahead." I replied, grapping a small fruit right under Skye's nose, who was still devouring his own, although he seemed to have some issues swallowing everything. "Do you remember anything about how and when you arrived to the orphanage?" "Well… it was so long ago… I was barely more than a baby… I don't remember much„" I gasped, chocking on what I just swallowed. "I know but… didn't you ask any of the nurses for clues?" "I did…" I admitted, rummaging through those old, ghostly memories, trying to recall as best as I could what they told me. "It's a bit blurry but… I think I was found on the doorstep during the night. The usual they told me, someone comes at night, knocks at the door then runs way before anyone can see them." "That's… not helping." admitted my grandfather, quite disappointed "any other detail you can recall?" "Apparently it was a stormy night and when they found me rain poured down in the streets, so much in fact the sewers were vomiting all the excess water, they were quite surprise it didn't carry me away in fact." "I suppose you have some sort of guardian angel watching over you." "That or I was just lucky enough to not die." I huffed "Did you have anything onto you?" he enquired. "What do you mean something on me?" I growled, his curiosity starting to upset me. "Well… jewels… or… any distinguishable mark of your rank… or even a letter." "No… none of that." I admitted. Now that I thought about it… why would those who abandoned me leave clues to help the authorities identify me if not to actually hide who I was, just another anonymous kid in an orphanage. I thought deeply, concentrating as hard as I could until suddenly… "Well… actually now that you say it the nurses said I was wrapped-up in some sort blanket; some, very precious fabric according to them." "Interesting… interesting…" he mumbled, rubbing his beard thoughtfully, frowning in a sudden questioning. "Can you tell me more about this blanket?" "Nah, never actually saw it, they threw it to the garbage, apparently it was all covered in mud and soaked wet, they feared I would catch a cold in it… but why do you want to know?"
"Just, curiosity; it’s my… guilty pleasure of some sort." he whispered, leaning over the table as if to tell an important secret "when I get into a story I want to know all about it." I smiled acknowledging, amused by the revelation. "Ace… I have one last question and after I wont bother you with it ever again." "Sure, what do you want to know?" "Do you know the precise date at which they found you?" "Easy one" I giggled “it's my birthday?" "I… I don't get it" he stammered, cocking his head to the side. "Well… they put our birthday according to the day we were admitted inside." "Oh… that's handy." he murmured; perking an ear. I couldn't help but grin, watching him suspended to my lips, wordlessly begging me to give him that last information; did it hold the key to the meaning of life or something? At least from the look on his face it's what I thought.
However, as soon as I told him the date his face decomposed, his expression crumbling. I froze, worried; holding the last word in my mind? "Did I say something wrong?" I gasped, afraid. He didn't respond, keeping his head low, mumbling words under his breath, his expression becoming more serious, his hands clasping around the edge of the table. Skye let out a little squeak, his ears dropping, his wings fluttering as he tried to get up, only to topple over and fall flat under his own weight, eliciting an amused giggle from me. "Is… is everything alright?" I squeaked pitifully, terrified at the idea I might have offended him. He didn't answer, his face twisting in an angry grimace, a fire blazing in his eyes. I gulped down, cold sweat falling down my spine, wild shivers shaking my whole being.
"Alexander!" he suddenly roared, making me shrink in my chair, his own toppling over, falling to the ground with a loud bang "come here You little retched rat!".
The assembly once again froze, only low enquiring whispers slithering between tables, a cold, tensed silence falling upon all of us. My father stood up, shocked, wondering and, a bit afraid to, throwing his wife an anxious look. "Don't just stand there like the idiot you re and bring that fat ass of yours over here immediately!" he yelled impatiently, his loud, commanding voice imprinted with a bone-chilling rage. My father obeyed, taking slow steps toward us, under the curious and intrigued gazes of all the other guests, all of them eager to see how it would all unfold. Nervously I looked around, searching for something to comfort me; feeling terrible for triggering my grandfather wrath. Beside… what did I even say to piss him off so bad? I only kindly answered to all his questions. My body went stiff, sensing the weight of a gaze on me. Slowly, trembling in fear I turned my eyes toward him, knowing who was looking at me. Despite my boiling anger I withstood his probing gaze, staring intensely into his eyes. Ulrick looked just as puzzled as I, as if he had listened, peaked up on our conversation. His expression shifted; I only shrugged, shaking my head negatively in incomprehension. No word was shared but it wasn't necessary, just looking at each other spoke more than endless blabbers.
"Y-you… you asked for me f-father?" stammered my father, standing face to face with the old man, looking uncomfortable, apprehending "what is the cause of…"
A "oh!" of surprise shook the whole room, everyone jumping to their feet in a scraping of chair my father staggering back, eyes wide open in surprise, a hand pressed to his nose; falling back down the stairs onto his butt. I stood there, speechless, my jaws dropping on a blank cry. I didn't see it coming. Damn he is fast for an old man„. I thought, eyes glued to the bloodied right hand. But… but why? Why did he punch him? I wanted to rush to him, to see if he was alright but… I was like bolted to the ground, my feet refusing to move, my whole body disobeying me. Skye on his end didn't move, observing the scene, sprawled on his back like some sort of diva, a satisfied grin plastered over his face, a plethora of happy chirps spilling from his maw, like he was cheering someone up, making the whole situation only weirder.
"Fa… father… why…?" gasped my father grimacing in pain, a hand clutching his nose, a vermillion rivulet trickling between his tightly clenched fingers. "How… how could you?" hissed my grandfather, trembling in utter hatred. "How could I what?" huffed my father, trying to get up, only to fall back down, picked by another blow to the face. "Alexander!" squawked my mother, running to my father's aid "what is wrong with you?" she yelled at my grandfather's attention. "Silence you heartless whore!" he roared out of raw anger, spitting words like venom. "I can't believe this." he spat, descending the stairs with slow, measured steps "I can't believe you were capable of such villainy. I didn’t raise you to be such a cruel man!" he stopped, towering over his son, glaring down at him, contempt pouring down on him. "What… what are you talking about?" we all asked at the same time, my tongue finally accepting to form coherent sentences. "Don't pretend ignorance, we both know exactly what's the matter." he growled, completely ignoring me. "Have you lost your mind?" gasped my father, backing away in fear. "Oh no; my mind has never been so clear I wonder how I could even believe it." This time my parents flinched, their eyes crossing in horror, their skin becoming a pale white. "All those stories, all those letters… all of that just lies! What evil mind could imagine such a twisted plot!?" "What… what is he talking about." I whimpered, fearing to understand. ""What a deceitful person you are; how can you be the son I raised? The man I saw grow up would never do such disregardful acts."
All eyes were homed at them, humans and dragons alike listening with undisclosed curiosity and interest, some of them petrified in horror, their faces mere grotesque masks of disgust and hate, all dragons snarling, their intertwined deep throaty growls forming a deep rumble that shook every fiber of my being.
"How in the world could you be so heartless to do this, how could you live knowing what you have done? How could you come here tonight like nothing happened? How can you even live with all the trickeries and manipulations?" he kept talking, tears streaming down his cheeks, spilling all his hatred onto the couple. "Can someone explain me what is going on?" I exploded; covering all noises, earning all the actions, hundreds of pairs of astonished eyes darted at me. My grandfather turned around, keeping his head low, wearing a solemn, sorry face, his eyes blurred by a veil of tears, teeth clenched, trying to contain his anger. "I'm… I'm sorry Ace… terribly sorry…" he whimpered, his voice broken by sorrow. "Yes you should be sorry…" I growled, getting up from my chair, Skye dropping rather than landing on my shoulder. Grimacing under the added weight. "No Ace… it's… it's not what I meant…" mumbled the old man, avoiding direct eye contact with me. "What… what I'm tryinh to tell you is that… what they told you… it's… it's not true." he stammered hesitantly. "What!?" I gasped, freezingon the spot, my breath halted, eyes bulging wide in shock "what do you mean it's not true?" I gasped, fearing the worst. "With… with what you told me… I can see the truth now… and I can only blame myself to have bean blinded for so long… for too long." he let out in a low murmur. "What do you call the truth?" I grumbled, unsure if I should believe his words. "Don't listen to him my dear little sweetheart your grandfather is out of his mind." quickly replied my mother, rushing to me, grabbing my arm with a strength I wasn't expecting her to possess, trying to drag me with her. A blue light flew through the air, crossing the gap between us, its searing heat roosting some of my hairs. Deep menacing growls forced her to back away, letting go of me, Skye, jumping on all four, wings fanned out, tail hanging low, claws firmly latched around my shoulder in a defensive manner, his lips pulled back over his small yet sharp fangs, tall blue flames spurting from between his slightly gaping maw, grayish smoke swirling from his nostrils. "Oh this beast should be tamed properly." She yelped, covering her very slightly reddened arm. I ignored her, only staring at Skye, disturbed by his behavior. Why was he acting like this? It wasn't the first time he growled at my parents or acted aggressively toward them. But… why? Did he see or feel something I didn't, could he sense a danger I was oblivious to? "Don't touch him you deprived whore! What mother could do that to the fruit of her entrails?" Roared my grandfather, stepping between us, roughly shoving her away "It is not this young dragon that should be punished but you." "Oh, how dare you separate me from my child?" She shouted, astonished. "Don't you dare pronounce that word in front of me if you wish to still have a tongue!" He hissed, putting a hand on his sword's hilt. "Can someone explain me what is going on?" I shouted, just as a bright blue fireball splashed on the ground, throwing sparkles everywhere; even earning some applause from a few nearby spectators. "Thanks Skye." I mentally said, grateful he was there, by my side, the little blue dragon answering with a loud happy chirp, offering me his head to rub. "Ace; I… I am sorry to tell you that but… they lied to you." "W-W-what? What do you mean they lied to me?" I sputtered in disbelief "are… are they not my parents?" I added, immediately regretting that silly thought. "Of course we are your parents; don't be silly my little dragon." She puffed amused "your grandfather is just…" "Shut up! I can't take anymore of your lies." Roared my grandpa. "T-they… lied…" I stammered, the words echoing endlessly in my empty, blanking brain, no one seemingly caring about me, too busy arguing. "T-they… lied… about what?" I enquired my whole bady spasming under tremors of fear. Again my words fell on deaf ears. "Can somebody answer me?!" I yelled, my frustration spilling out. My father wanted to answer but she was cut short "What you told me Ace… brought light on some of the dark zones of the stories." "Stop talking in riddles, I'm not in the mood for this." I growled, rage like fires blazing within me; craving for the truth. "My love…" started my mother. "Silence!" I hissed "I only want to know one thing; what you told me… is it the truth?' I huffed, fists balled, my blood boiling in my veins, questions, doubts, wonders spinning in my head. "Of course my little baby we would never lie to you!" she exclaimed yet it sounded devoid of meaning to me. Moreover she never kept eye contact, avoiding me at all cost. "The truth." I hissed staring deeply into her eyes; her already pale face taking the color of polished marble. She took a step back, tripping over something, whatever it was, falling onto her butt, her robe spreading around her like a blossoming flower. "Answer me!" I roared.

What the hell is happening over there? Everyone including me has their eyes riveted on them; watching the scene as if it had been a part of some comedy… or rather tragedy in that case. And as it unfolds before our eyes I can only hold onto my seat and listen. But… something feels odd; I can sense the familiar tingle of magic in the air; and apparently I wasn't the only one; Alckor's head perking up; his nostrils twitching, flaring; eyes squinted, drool gathering at the corner of his lips. "You can feel it to?" whispered Kyo, both in my head and at his brother attention. "Yes… what's going on?" I replied, intrigued. He only smiled; a knowing glimmer crossing his eyes. "Just watch…" he hushed, his bulky snout gently poking at my face, deep purrs sending shudders down my spine. A gust of air crossed the room, a freezing cold wind imposing silence. The woman fell down, Ace's eyes lit up like two torches, the reptilian eyes looking somewhat scary. "Remind me to never piss him off." I murmured, feeling Kyo's chin resting on my shoulder; soft, smooth scales brushing against my skin, hot air billowing over my head. "*gasp* Easy Kyo, you're squashing me down!" I yelped, collapsing under his weight. "Woops sorry."
We observed quietly, mere spectators to the scene that unveiled before our very eyes. "Tell me… is anything you told me true?" sobbed Ace, tears welling up in his eyes. "Of… of course it is? Why would we lie to you?" she stammered in response, reaching for her kid but Ace remained out of her reach "we love you with all our heart, why would we abandon you?" His father vigorously nodded in approval. "Then explain me how I ended in an orphanage here, in the capital, so far away from our home?" growled Ace, his voice deepening, imprinted with fury. "We… we don't know" they gasped, equally surprised. "Nonsense." grumbled his grandfather. Ace spun around facing the old man "What do you mean by that?" he hissed in a pissed off tone, his words sounding like… growls. "Hehe you heard that to?" whispered Kaos, appearing next-to Alckor, the smaller drake nodding, deeply absorbed in his contemplation. "It's about to start." added the old demon, slithering away, finding a first row seat to assist to the scene, earning a few screams in his wake. "What's about to start?" I mumbled, puzzled, glancing at Kyo. "Hush, just watch… and keep a close eye on Ace."
I did as I was told; my curiosity tickled just the right way. "The date you told me Ace… it matches perfectly… and it brings light on so many dark zones of this story." whispered the old man, looking sorry bust his traits were twisted in disgust, glaring down at his son. "Stop talking in riddles! I'm so not in the mood for that." growled Ace. This time I was sure, I heard it, his voice was, definitely deeper, more… animalistic in some way, sounding more like a feral growl. "What the…" I gasped, petrified like all the others, except for dragons who all wore big toothy grins. "You heard it?" "Yes… but… what did I hear." "Just keep looking… it's about to get really interesting." sniggered Kyo, a knowing glimmer crossing his eyes. "What I'm trying to say is… *sigh* the night you were found at that orphanage's doorstep… your parents were taking a trip through the empire." Indeed… but it was a long time ago!" protested his mother "beside it was after you had… disappeared." "Oh no, there are a few elements that point toward another reality." sighed the old man, shaken by what he had discovered "it doesn't take a genius to do some simple moths, because taking into account Ace's age, and the fact that the night he was deposited at that orphanage was a night most people here will recall as the great flood… it can only mean…"
He kept the last words for himself, letting the undeniable, horrible reality hover over us. Rumors spread around the room, growing louder and louder, from low shocked murmurs to outraged shouts flying in all directions, dragons adding their loud voice to the general dismay. "Those… bustards." I hissed through gritted teeth, a deep hateful growl vibrating in Kyo's throat, so close to my ear it sounded like the earth itself was rumbling. My fists balled in uncontained anger, I had lost my mother at a young age, so young I could barely recall her face and my father had drowned in the warm embrace of alcohol… and I knew Kyo had gone through similar turmoil in his youth, separated from his brother, the rest of his family cruelly murdered. I felt something tugging at the back of my head, a dormant pain now awakened again, a feeling we both shared, Kyo's own sorrow transferred to me despite his attempts at keeping it for himself. I let my hand slide along Kyo's snout, rubbing their soft surface, letting their warmth seep beneath my skin, cradled by his low purrs. "How could parents abandon their child like this?" we whispered in union, both surprised by the sync when we spoke, pulling away, staring at each other in utter surprise and incomprehension, blushing as if we had just said the silliest thing ever. "What… what does it mean?" stammered Ace, half pissed-off, half worried "Can someone tell me for god's sake?" He roared, everyone jumping on their chair, the now ongoing conversation stopping in an instant. I flinched, this time I had heard it; this time I had felt it; like electricity going through me. Ace's eyes blazed brighter like two wild fire ignited like torches; but what truly caught me off guard was his voice; it… it wasn't human anymore; only a feral noise, like a roar… yes a roar. "Oh my; that's a mighty roar." Admitted Kyo, impressed. Low muffed giggles filled the deep, tensed silence, Alckor, hidden behind one of th two demons covering his face with his wing, his whole frame quaking with each burst of laughter. "What's so funny?" huffed one of the twins. "Nothing… nothing." Replied Kyo's brother, holding back another laughter "it's just that they're in for some real trouble…" he let out, rolling on his back, paws hieratically kicking, tail swaying widely behind him. "That's what you get for upsetting a dragon." Approved Kyo, ramming his snout in his brother's exposed belly, his broad tongue lapping at his scales, eliciting low delighted purrs from the smaller drake; and also some jealous glares from the twins standing on either side. Before I could ask Kyo what he meant by that another voice raised, a trembling sorrow-filled voice. "You were with them on that trip Ace… and it appears you never came back from it." Explained the general, sincerely devastated by the news. "Hey look… is that… fire!" exclaimed a dragon, pointing a claw at Ace. An astonished murmur spread around the table. I squinted my eyes, looking for what all the other seemed to have noticed… and I found it. There, small flames ignited, a fire starting from apparently nowhere. It was no natural fire that was sure, both due to the color of the flames: a vibrant blue; and also because of their ignition source: the once blind servant himself, his clenched fists enveloped in a ragging inferno, tall fiery tendrils licking at his forearms as the flames grew brighter, more ravenous, the fire more intense. "Damn… how can he not notice it…" I mumbled, my jaws dropping in disbelief, eyes bulging wide, almost popping from my skull before what I witnessed. "He is… fired up if I can say so." Whispered Kyo, nudging himself close to me, a broad grin covering his face. "I'd say those two know how to turn on the heat." Added Kaos, materializing right beside us. "And all that heat is gonna come down on them." Finished Alckor, taking the only empty spot left near Kyo.

I felt cold, like all life had suddenly left me, the world around me freezing, crumbling, collapsing, and shattering in a billion shards. My heart sank, a burning pain aching in my chest, my heart torn apart; the happiness from that moment where I met them; when they cuddled me with all their… fake… love gone; replaced by pure, all-consuming hatred. My legs barely held me up but I stood there, waves of energy surging through me, my whole body shaking violently yet I barely noticed it. Anger, like a fire burned, burned brighter and harder, ragging inside me, filling my flesh with a new strength. I kept my eyes on them, going from one face to the other, looking for clues that would confirm… or maybe dismiss all those accusation; I didn't know what I was looking or hoping for; but I only discovered a growing sense of guild creeping over them. "Tell me!" I ordered; trembling, crying and enraging at the same time. Their lips remained sealed, not even the slightest of sound coming out of them. "It was a few months after your birth…" whimpered the old general, stumbling back, falling in a chair a servant rushed to offer him, an extreme exhaustion seemingly crashing down on him, I felt sorry for him but I couldn't care less at that instant. "You were still so small… so fragile… but they brought you with them for that journey. When they came back they told everyone you were sick, had caught a really bad cold on the way back. They had you locked up in your room with a guard at the doorstep, pretending it was for your protection. Nobody except them had the right to see you… until… until that night… the guard was found dead, his throat sliced open and your room empty, the window hanging wide open. But… now I see that… you were already… gone *sniff* before they came back from their trip." he whimpered, slamming a fist on his own knee. My blood boiled, like molten steel coursing in my veins, my whole body throbbing with anger. "You… monsters…" I growled, feeling a scorching heat invade me, creeping over me.
"I have heard enough. Guards!" called a loud commanding voice, a relieved chill running down my spine. Skye seemed just as satisfied, cheerful thrills bursting from his maw, his wings flapping noisily. A squad of guards arrived, their armors clicking, their heavy metal boots slamming on the marble. They froze just a few feet away, waiting for the next order. "Bring him to me." ordered the emperor, designating my father; his dragon glaring down at him, fangs bared, a low bone-chilling rumble filling the room, imposing a deep respectful silence. The guards complying, pointing their long spears at my father. "Get up!" ordered the first one, the blat side of his weapon pushing against my father's shoulder, urging him to comply. He didn't move, petrified. Two other guards reached out, grabbing him under the shoulders, forcing him up before dragging him away like a bag of potatoes. "Her too…" hissed the imperial dragon, his massive claws curling inward, his thick tail slamming in the ground. The two remaining guards aimed their spears at my mother. She stood up, pushing the broad blades with a hand, walking alone to her husband’s side, head up, trying to keep her dignity and composure under the intense stare of the dragon and emperor. We all waited, in perfect silence, suspended to the emperor's lips as the couple stood before him, at the bottom of the podium leading to his throne. The guards, as expressionless as statues, shoved them forward, urging team to kneel down before their sovereign. The emperor stood up, everyone including me holding their breathe, waiting, impatient to hear him speak, feeling the burn of his dragon's sharp gaze as it strolled over the assembly, dragons and humans all bowing their head down… except for a black and blue dragon, taunting the tall gold drake with a provoking grin, sprawling out, exposing his belly, showcasing things I didn't want to look at yet the emperor's dragon didn't seem to mind. "Kyo stop this." I heard the groubled words like shouts in the heavy quiet atmosphere.
"Sir Alexander, Lady Eleanor, stand and face judgment." commanded the emperor, getting up, walking to the edge of the stage he was on with slow, measured motions, a perch from which he dominated all. His gaze fell upon the two trembling frames. He cleared his throat, his voice rising, echoing in the tall room, everyone listening quietly, in the deepest respect. "You have been the cause of many troubles…" he started, disappointed "and with the new knowledge that have been brought up to me it is time to make the light on this story."
A long minute went by in that same tensed, electric silence, nobody daring to speak, move or even breathe, not foolish enough to trigger the emperor's wrath. I waited, quietly, unable to look at anything else than my parents. The emperor stood still, scrutinizing the couple facing him, his face a solemn, severe expression, a slick mask lacking any kind of emotion. "Before we start I would like go remind all that they are in a place where lies and deception are not welcomed; and that, all of my subjects, humbles farmers and rulers likewise will be judged equally." he said, staring intensely at my parents, his lips imperceptibly twitching "moreover justice as always should be provided by humans and dragons as part of the great bond uniting us." Everyone nodded, acknowledging the words. "I would like to add" continued his dragon, his deep rumbling voice sending chills of fear down my spine "that if you wish to willingly and knowingly lie before us your punishment shall only be more severe." he hissed, taking the entire room as witnesses, lowering his snout to the two human's level, puffing acrid, smoke-filled air at their face. "Very well, now that the procedure has been dealt with…" sighed the emperor, letting his relief transpire, a few chuckles rising among the assembly "have only one question for you Sire Alexander; have you orchestrated all this machination?" asked the emperor.
The silence deepened even more, low rumbling-growls building up, even Skye let out a growl of his own, sounding seller than scary. "Have you lost your tongue?" enquired the emperor's dragon, crouching low to remain at their level, his probing gaze going from one to another. "Yes…" finally let out my father, dipping his head low, my mother throwing him a stupefied glance, her mouth open on a word that never came out. Pain burst through me, my heart like imploding, a surge of unbearable suffering submerging me as tears cascaded dewn my cheeks, my mouth twitting on muffed sobs, my fists clenched so tight, my nails digging in my skin so much it hurt, yet it was merely a tickle compared to the pain I felt, like my whole body was squeezed hard by a massive invisible hand, tossed around then stomped on by an army of dragons. I… I started to have doubts but actually hearing it from their mouth was even worse. All the suffering of the world rained on my shoulder, my legs barely holding me up, even Skye's soft purrs and coos didn’t manage to comfort me, barely breaking through the ragging storm that had become my mind. The deep growls turned into fully-blown astonished roars, cry for vengeance echoing to my despair. Heavy tails slammed in the ground, claws racking the stone, jaws snapping, wings fluttering, many voice intertwined in a unique roar, their anger amplified, their rage unleashed. Many humans, whoever they were, joined, adding their voice to the general protestation. The emperor lifted a hand, asking for calm, but only few heard him. Through the veil of my tears I saw his dragon sigh, dipping his head low, slowly lifting it back up, a deep rumble building in his throat, his throat vibrating as it it increased in depth, my whole body shaking as the mighty noise came to my ears. A roar, filled with pure might, a sound like no other, like I had never heard before, imposing respect and obedience, an uncontrollable desire to bow down before the great beast filling me.
Yet I seemed to be the only one afflicted by it… or was I? The humans indeed went quiet but the dragons on the other hand were still rioting in their corner, oblivious, deaf to the command. The Emperor and his dragon shared a puzzled glance, the dragon shaking his head in utter disbelief, baring his fangs in frustration.
Nothing seemed able to calm the enraged dragons, their roars intertwined in a strange, deep, wild melody.
A second, deeper, more powerful mightier roar suddenly covered all the other noises, reverberating in the immense room, echoing for a long minute. I froze, petrified,, drained of all will to resist, my, like an electric shock traversing me, forcing all my muscles to tense up. I felt… strangely weak, unable to move or to fight. It was… just like before but much more powerful. To my own disbelief I found myself falling to my knees, my body having a mind of its own, refusing to obey to my brain's command. I threw a quick look around, discovering rows after rows of stunned faces, mouth wide in shock, eyes bulging wide in amazement. No sound remained everything peacefully quiet. After a while I threw a quick look around, wondering what was going on. "What the…" I mumbled, finding all dragons, including the emperor's own bending forward, keeping their head low, but they weren't facing the right way, instead of bowing down to the emperor they did the same with… Kyo. What the hell was going on?
"Thanks… Kyo…" grumbled the imperial dragon, snarling his frustration, trying to get his body to comply, a slight blush tainting his golden cheeks crimson. "My pleasure to help…" replied Kyo, grinning toothily, although he seemed quite uncomfortable with all the attention drawn to him, dancing from one paw to another, ruffling his wings not really knowing what to do, just as embarrassed and red as the emperor's dragon "but guys… please stop bowing down to me… it's making me uncomfortable…" he added, sitting down near his friend. At that exact same second I recovered control over my body, climbing back to my feet, still disturbed by what just happened. "Anyway! Now that this little… incident… is over I would like to know everything." shouted the emperor, insisting on the word incident, throwing Kyo a glare, mix of gratitude and annoyance. "And don't forget any detail." growled his dragon, just as angry. My parents, who had remained at the exact same place, under the surveillance of an entire squad of guards observed the carpet before them.
"It was… so long ago…" started my father "we had tried to have a child for so long; for years and years we tried unsuccessfully… until the day where he was born." he continued, avoiding my gaze. "At first we were… delighted… like all parents would but then we noticed something… wasn't right." added my mother. "That's when we discovered his… illness."
A cold wind washed over the crowd, faces twisting with disgusted grimaces. "We tried… we beg you to believe that we really tried but…" yelled my mother, breaking in tears, only fueling my boiling rage with more hatred. Trying to soften people again? But it won't work this time, they saw who you truly were, they saw behind that mask you wear. I thought to myself, elated by the prospect of their punishment.
"And then?" enquired the emperor, sitting back on his throne, idly fondling his dragon's muzzle. "We feared we wouldn't be able to raise him properly, that he wouldn't be good at anything." "So?" growled the imperial dragon, his voice cracking like thunder. "We went on a trip through the kingdom to visit a relative… and… negotiate a few agreements here and there." they continued, delaying the inevitable part. The silence fell, lasting a long, endless minute, as if time had frozen, leaving us all hanging, suspended to their lips, to the words that wouldn’t come out. They lowered their head even more, exchanging a quick questioning glance, doubting if they should count the end of the story. "You vowed to not hide anything from us." hissed the dragon, plunging his radiant golden eyes into them, forcing them to step back under the burn of his gaze "so speak, and let us all hear the truth."
They gulped down, both shaking in terror but no one let that display of fear soften them, even less me. "We hired a man… we paid him a hefty amount of money…" began my mother, her voice trembling with sorrow, heavy sobs interrupting her sentence, her whole frame quaking under tremors of regrets. "What did you hire him for?" interrogated the emperor, his voice cold like ice, but firm and solemn, demanding an answer, yet hints of anger peaked out here and there, hints only I seemed able to catch. "Was it to get rid of your son?" he questioned, his tone deepening, more grave, more accusing, darting suspicious eyes upon the two culprits. "Yes…" finally replied my father in a barely audible whisper. "But it seems he didn't have the guts to fulfill his mission."
A shocked protest exploded in the room, a tall wave of hate and rage crashing down on my parents, my voice rose, merging with the swelling anger, roars and cries mingled in one simple call for a fitting punishment. "Monsters!" yelled one. "Murderers!" "Assassins!" ""unfit parents" “shame on you!” so many words that made my own rage grow, fueling the fire consuming my heart, echoing to the words I couldn't speak myself. "Silence!" roared the emperor; and this time he was obeyed without a second thought. "Or perhaps he was more human than you." spat the dragon. The emperor sat on his throne in complete silence, lost in his thoughts, rubbing his beard, his eyes looking far away, far out of the room, beyond the walls. "I have heard enough." he finally let out, getting up. "Guards!" he called solemnly, his men immediately stepping forward, pointing their spears at the guilty rulers. "Sire Alexander, I can't believe that, after so many years of loyalty you could reveal to be such a deceitful person and you shall be punished for your crimes accordingly." he growled, disappointed and upset, only letting us see the full extent of his wrath now. "Guards, escort these criminals out of here, they are not welcome here anymore… and let them know that if they try to cross our borders again they will be considered trespassers." The guards nodded, tightening their grip around my parents while another squad rushed to keep a close eye on them. "Sire Alexander, lady Eleanor, you are deprived of your titles and honors, your possessions and belongings are now property of the empire, and it's allies." Round of applauses burst in the room, acclaiming the emperor, adoring him, approving his decision. "I banish you of these lands, your names shall only be remembered as those of liars and assassins." he paused, letting his words sink in, the whole crowd murmuring and nodding, showing their approvals Yet I noticed from the corner of my eyes the tears flowing down my grandfather's cheek, his sorrow and shame pouring out like a torrent. I felt sorry for hi,m, but too delighted, too satisfied to care at that precise moment.
"Go back to the retched hole that gaave you birth and pray, pray for no retaliation to come for you." he added, waving a hand at his men. They bowed, dragging the two disgraced rulers away. "Let their people know of their demise." commanded the king at a scribble’s attention "make sure their fate is known to all." "It will be done as you wish my emperor." replied the man, bowing down deeply before running away.
I observed them, my parents at they passed by, carried away by the soldiers, my blood boiling, with unquenchable anger, the bitter feeling of having been used, deceived, manipulated filling my mouth. "Stop!" I ordered, running to them. A glint of hope lit up their face, a light that soon faded as they saw the anger twisting my traits. "You…" I hissed through gritted teeth, my voice mixing with Skye's deep rumbled growls. "I can't believe this… I can't believe you abandoned me!" I roared letting all that building anger sill out, like a dam had collapsed inside me, letting all that contained rage flow freely. "Why? Why did you abandon me? It’s because I was blind isn't it?" I growled, my lips trembling, tears streaming down my face, turning my vision into a blur. "You… heartless monsters!" I spat "and… after all these years… just coming back like nothing had happened! How long did you think your little comedy could last?" I roared, watching them crumble in fear. "I hate you, I hate you with all my heart." I yelled, my voice trembling, filled with tears but I didn't care the slightest. "I wish you to die… but slowly, painfully, as much as you made me suffer!" I yelled with pure venom in my voice. They stared blankly at me, their faces pale mask of raw fear, the guards on their end not flinching the slightest, deaf and blind to what happened next to them. "How could you dump me like a piece of garbage and just come back hopping for forgiveness." I spat turning away. "How long did you believe it would last before someone eventually found out?" I hissed glaring back at them.
"I hate you, I hate you from the bottom of my soul; you make me sick, you only inspire disgust and hatred. I wish I had never met you." I growled "good bye… or should I say… farewell."
Without looking back I went away, letting the guards kick them out of the room, the crowd parting around me, forming a large alley for me, pale faces staring at me in a mix of compassion, empathy, sorrow and, mixed to all their blended emotions a twinge of fear.

Alckor
"Poor guy…" whispered Skel, "bunch of scum…" agreed Tormis, sitting close to me, their heads resting against my back, their bodies radiating a blissful warmth, their our scales snuggly rocking together, low purrs humming in their throats, their wet tongue lapping, their sweet lips kissing my scales, teeth lightly nibbling at my neck, sending wild shivers down my spine. I only weakly nodded, my lips trembling, my eyes full of tears; my sight so blurry I could barely see in front of me, holding back my overflowing sorrow, my guts knotting, a large ball stuck in my throat, pain rippling in my flesh. "Hey don't cry Alckor'… we’re here, we'll never leave you…" cooed Skel, wrapping his paws around me, pulling me in a tight loving embrace. "Yes, we're never gonna let you down." purred Tormis, snuggling with us, burying my snout in his chest, his potent musk invading my nostrils, a scent I fo'1nd most comforting at that very instant, closing my eyes, letting them cuddle me as my tears flowed down my cheeks.
I wished I had never been there, the current situation reigniting a fire I thought had long since burned out, a dormant pain reawakened, ragging, craving for answers, the suffering of my youth blooming in full force, the loneliness, the lack of a family. I let them all pour out with my tears, sobbing noisily in Tormis' chest, listening to the soft words he spoke in my ear, a strange foreign melody humming in an alien language, peaceful and appeasing, rocking back and forth with me, submerging me in their warmth and affection. I let myself go, cradled by them, savoring that instant of pure bliss, our bonds visibly strengthening, all our emotions shared, dispatched, the pain taken away from me, replaced by a mind-blowing love. I didn't know much about their past but their understanding surprised me, but I was too desperate to care. My eyes involuntarily wandered away, falling on Kyo. My brother was in a similar state, resting his snout on his mate's shoulder, blanketed in his affectionate caresses and warm wing, a thick smoky snake wrapped up around him, nuzzling him as best as it could although the intangible presence always traversed him without touching him. My heart sank painfully, an empty hole I had managed to ignore for all these years now craving to be filled, for answers to enlighten me, for all those secrets to falter.
We observed as those… disregardful humans were taken away to everyone's relief; Ace walking the other way. I didn't even need to see to sense his energy pounding, blooming, radiating from him. I felt sorry for him but in the meantime I felt so far from those things, coping with my own burning pains, feeling surprisingly lonely, almost missing that pesky presence that I one enjoyed before despising. "Don't think about it." purred Skel, his soft murmuring voice sending wild blissful shivers down my spine, his pa7s traveling down my back, massaging my flanks along the way. "Just let it all come out… there, don't hold it back." hushed Tormis with the same care in his low tone, his tongue tracing little circles on my hide, eliciting low coos between heavy sobs; my whole frame shuddering under their caresses.

Kyo
It hurts, it hurts like hell, tears flow down my cheeks and I can't hold them back, not anymore; old wounds reopened, bleeding their painful venom within me, regrets, sorrow mixed with an unquenchable hatred seeping in my thoughts at the mere thought; a thought I wish I could have forgotten, an event I wish now never happened. How am I gonna explain him… he will want to know eventually… and sooner than later it appears. "I know what you're thinking about Kyo." whispered Tarken in my ear, holding me close, blanketing me in his loving nuzzles and gentle rubs, holding me close under the cover of his extended wing.
Before us Ace's parents were being escorted out of the palace, Ace on their eals spitting all his hatred and venom at them… just like I used to do so long ago. There were reasons but, it only painfully reminded me of my own past. "I wish I had never met you…" those words echoing in my head, hurting like a blade sank through my flesh. I could recall so clearly, pronouncing a similar sentence so many years ago… only to regret them soon after… but in his case it was different. Next to me, coiled around me, his familiar presence nestled comfortably in my head Kaos was laughing trying to stiffen his mad bursts of laughter, his long serpentine frame curling and twitching all around me. "What's so funny…" I growled. "Don't play the fool Kyo, you know exactly what's going on." he giggled, soon joined by Alckor who seemed to feel better already. I only weakly nodded, more preoccupied by my own problem.
