Under Ice: Launch Day (3)
Launch day has arrived! The crew has been trained and they're ready for take off. The Nova awaits them to take them on their journey across space. Catch the briefing from Captain Lopez as the crew settles in.
12 December 2082
“This is a happy day!” Kuga bounced around as he waited for everyone to finish packing for the ship, “We finally go to Jupiter!”
Harvey smiled, “That we do Stumbles.”
The dingo had tied the otters posters to his bag to make sure he didn’t lose them this time around. Harvey threw his pack over his back as he checked in on Ken and Marc. The two of them were ready to go. The four of them left their room and headed for the front of the building where a vehicle was waiting to transport them to the launch site.
Harvey rubbed his chest as they got into the car, “Mmm, man, we really should have rethought these things.”
Marc laughed as he loaded in behind him, “We all agreed back en August te get dem pierced te show unity!”
Harvey sighed as he pulled his pack in his lap, “I can’t believe we’re doing this.”
Ken smiled, “I can. I’m excited to make history. We’re the first team mission this far into space, and we’ll be the first one’s to land somewhere foreign.”
“A dream come true!” Kuga agreed.
“We have to get there first,” said Harvey.
“Dun be a downer mate,” Marc threw his arm around the dingo, “We got this. Dun worry about anythin’. We’ve the smartest brains on this mission. An’ hell, we all get alon’ wich I had doubt in the beginnin.”
The car pulled up to the launch site building where reporters were waiting with their cameras. They were bombarded with questions as they stepped out of the vehicle. The four of them were escorted into the building safely.
“Haven’t these people heard of the briefing later?” Harvey laughed as they walked down the hallway into the main base.
“Hungry vultures,” Marc chuckled.
The four of them had their luggage taken way to be loaded up on the ship. They were then led down another hallway into a large room filled with computers and massive screens filling the walls. They found themselves in mission control.
Allen bounced his way through the crowds of people, “There you guys are! Are you ready for this?” The commander gave them all supportive hugs.
“Let's do this,” Ken grinned.
“Come on, I want you guys to meet your voices on the ground,” Allen led them over to three uniquely different guys.
One was an incredibly tall and fit lion with a mane to catch anyone’s attention from across the room. The next one was a short, brown and white rabbit with a firm demeanor. The third was a possum with colorful hair and several tattoos and piercings.
The lion jovially greeted them, “It’s a pleasure to meet you all. I’m Abe!” He then motioned to the rabbit and possum, “And these are Tucker and Pekko.”
“You can use our codenames if you like!” Pekko the possum said.
“Should you guys need anything, we’re here on the ground for you,” said Tucker, “We have a new message relay system in place. So, we can work fast if we have to. With satellite occupancy between Mars, the asteroid belt, and a few of Jupiter's moons, we can now move video messages in an hour and a half and we can do audio messages in fifty minutes.”
“Wow!” said Kuga, “That’s quite an accomplishment.”
“We'll be keeping an eye on your ship as well,” said Abe, “We have cameras outside of the ship, in engineering, and on the bridge. It’ll help us keep an eye on key areas should anything go wrong. We also have a cam in the Spiders bridge.”
“We’ve also become really good at long distance chess,” said Pekko, “So if you’re incredibly bored, don’t hesitate to play a game with us.”
Ken laughed, “Sounds like we’re in good hands.”
Bruce came over to them, “Let’s suit up boys. We have the news briefing. Help me get through it.”
“Ye got it Biggun,” Marc gave him a thumbs up.
Bruce gave him a look and shook his head. Allen led them into the changing lounge where they joined the rest of their crew. They helped each other get locked into their suits. Diego stood in front of them when they were ready to go.
“I just wanted to say that through all the frustrations and annoyances,” Diego began, “That you guys have ended up meaning a lot to me. I don’t think I could have found a better squad. We are clearly the best of the best and were meant for this mission. I’m sorry I doubted you. Let’s not let all this training go to waste. Time to make history!”
They did a group hug before exiting the changing room. The twelve of them walked down yet another long hallway into a conference room. All the news reporters were there. Cameras flew overhead as they held their mics out. For what felt like forever Bruce and Allen were bombarded with questions along with the twelve of them. All the newscasters had given them the nickname “The Jupiter Dozen”.
Finally Bruce put up his hands, “That is all the questions we can answer for now! It’s time for ‘The Jupiter Dozen’ to load up and ship out.”
They still tried to ask questions as Bruce and Allen led them out of the room. The gorilla sighed as he led the way to the launch pad. Allen was happily engaged in conversation as he led them to the lift that would bring them up to the shuttles entrance.
“I’m gonna miss you guys,” Allen gave each of them a hug.
“Don’t worry Perky,” said Diego, “I’ll send you love letters.”
“Good luck up there,” Allen looked proud and he wanted to say more but he just couldn’t get the words out.
“Alright boys,” Bruce held open the gate to the lift, “Safe travels to you. We look forward to getting your reports.”
Diego shook hands with the gorilla, “Thank you general. We’ll let you know if we want to come home.”
Bruce laughed as he shut them into the lift. The gorilla walked away with the badger in tow. They were lifted up to the bridge crossing into the flight deck. Errol and Hyperion skipped across the bridge in excitement and clambered up into the cockpit. The rest of them took their places behind them. A few of the deckhands did last minute checks on their seatbelts to make sure they were secure.
The hatch was closed and locked as Errol and Hyperion started to flip switches and push buttons. Hyperion could be heard talking with mission control as they confirmed last minute checks for shuttle launch. The bridge released from the side of the ship. More than half of them gripped their seatbelts as Hyperion confirmed one minute till ignition.
“Buckle your seatbelts,” said Hyperion.
“And make sure your tray tables are in their upright positions,” said Errol.
Hyperion started to count down from ten along with mission control. He hit the switch when they hit lift off. The shuttle rumbled as they were carried off into orbit. Hyperion and Errol gave them a flawless launch into orbit. They released the boosters and steered the ship in the direction of the international space station where the Nova was assembled and was waiting for them.
Their ship was attached to the side of the space station. The ship had a rotating wheel covered in solar panels over the midsection that helped the ship maintain constant running power. The ship had a sleek front and a long base with wings on the sides and four long fins hanging over the back. It was an impressive feat of human engineering. Many minds and hands went in on this.
Hyperion brought them in to dock with the space station, “ISS, this is the Europa Dozen coming in for a landing.”
“Really?” came a voice, “The news couldn’t find you a better name?”
Hyperion laughed, “You know it. Let me in Donny.”
“You’re clear to dock with your vessel,” said Donny, “Releasing it from the ISS now.”
The space station started to drift away from the Nova. Hyperion flipped a few switches as he swung the shuttle in towards the midsection of the ship just under the wheel. The Spider was docked on the other side. Errol checked the cameras as Hyperion eased them onto the docking clamps.
“You’re clear!” said Errol as the clamps locked on.
“Home sweet home,” Diego grinned as he unclipped his seatbelt.
“Alright, everyone take it slow,” said Rasul, “We need to turn the gravity on when we get onboard.”
The twelve of them made their way for the airlock under the shuttle. Rasul passed them all their luggage as Magnus opened the airlock. The raccoon was swift as he chucked himself through the ship's insides. He grappled onto a ladder far down the ship's long hallway and flew up it. Magnus hit the control station and went to work to bring all systems online.
The rest of them floated their way into the ship. They had only seen the blueprint and construction of the ship in pieces. Much to the delight of Bruno and Hugo, there was a package in storage clearly marked Party Palace. They somehow managed to convince someone to sneak them on party decorations.
Lights flickered on across the ship and a warning signal went off. Magnus got the gravity drive online as they all slowly floated down to the floor. Everyone took a moment to find their balance as they adjusted.
“Alright, everyone go claim a room and then settle in for take off,” said Diego.
The bat took the forward most room and dropped his pack off. His feet clunked against the floor as he made his way up to the cockpit. He was shortly joined by Hyperion and Errol. The three of them went over all the system checks to make sure everything was in working order. The engineers were doing the same in engineering.
“Alright,” Diego got on the PA system, “Everyone strap in as we get this beast up to speed. You’ll feel a bit of strain on your body as the gravity drive adjusts. Once we clear Earth’s orbit you’ll be free to move around.”
“Copy that, Captain,” Magnus said from engineering, “We’re good to go back here.”
The rest of them strapped themselves in. Rasul took up his station behind the pilots. The wolverine mapped out their trajectory. Hyperion pushed on the accelerator making the ship rumble. The engines let off a dull hum as they picked up speed.
“Everything is stable back here,” Magnus communicated.
All of them could feel the force against their bodies. Hyperion flipped another switch causing the engines to roar now. Errol helped the fennec adjust their trajectory as Rasul relayed their coordinates. The weasel flipped another switch. The ship started to shake again.
“Adjusting stabilizers,” Diego announced from his station.
Rasul started a countdown, “Get ready to release from orbit in… five… four… three… two… engage!”
Hyperion and Errol howled as the ship zoomed away from Earth. The ship stopped shaking and the engines died down to their dull hum. Diego high fived the cockpit crew. The twelve of them were on their way to Europa.
Diego pushed the communications button, “Mission control, this is the Nova. We have successfully broken orbit and we’re on our way.”
Abe came through with a crowd of cheers echoing around him, “Copy that Nova. Good luck out there. We’ll be on standby anytime you need us.”
“We’ll be in touch, over and out,” Diego let out a deep breath, “Alright. Lets get settled in. Hyperion, you have the bridge.”
“Ay, ay, captain!” The fennec was more than happy to do it.
Diego, Rasul, and Errol joined the rest of the crew in taking their launch suits off. They secured them in the airlock room. Magnus started to give them a tour. Out of all of them, he knew the most about the ship. The raccoon started at the front and walked them from the cockpit to the back.
“Starting from the cockpit there are four escape pods,” Magnus motioned to the side panels of the ship that pop off with just tugging on them, “Hopefully we don’t need them. And just here we have dry storage. Dry foods, ration packs, coffee, blankets, apparently party supplies,” Hugo and Bruno fistbumped, “And a bunch of miscellaneous goods. Every box is clearly labeled. Only open them as needed.”
He walked them into the next section where they came in, “Alright, below is obviously where we came in. In the event of an emergency, we can use the shuttle as an escape pod as well. We can even use the launch suits if we have to. They have up to five hours of emergency oxygen.”
He pointed upwards, “Up above, we have our advanced suits for the mission. There are three of them for each of us. Do your best to keep them undamaged. This is also access to the Spider. The Spider can be used for escape as well in the event of an emergency.”
“There’s a lot o’ emergencies,” said Marc.
“We hit any sort of space debris, it could rip through the ship,” said Diego.
“We do have reinforced hulls to hopefully deflect most space debris,” said Magnus, “But in the event something hit’s us, we go back to what we trained for and hurriedly repair any damaged hull panels. Beneath engineering, we have spare panels in case the damage is catastrophic. That’s also where the spacewalk suits and tools are and the airlock to get outside of the ship.”
“Left side medical, right side research,” Magnus indicated as they continued back down the ship, “Check in with the doctor if you need anything from medical. He has a full list of his inventory. Research lab is for only the science team and the captain. I catch the rest of you in there, I’ll put you on scrub duty.”
“Here’s the central area of the ship,” Magnus moved them into the big open space, in the middle of the room was a long table with a chair for each of them, and beyond that was a cozy lounge area. Before all that, “This is the galley. We have six months worth of food supply in the above storage area and down below. Clean up after yourselves. If you don’t, I’ll find you.”
Magnus moved them from the galley and hang out area down the narrow hallway, “You’ve all found your rooms. This is where you’ll be living for the next three months. Take care of your room and be considerate of those around you. Just here at the end of the hall are the bathrooms. Toilets on the right side, community shower on the left. Beyond them is laundry. Everyone needs to do their part in making sure we don’t recycle water too much. The purifiers will eventually wear out. Combine your clothes and I’m sure you can sort them out. We’re all a little different anyway.”
“And of course, we end in engineering,” Magnus pointed at the stairs going down from the sides of the main console, “Repair hatch down below. Do not enter the side panels. The heat from the engines is rather uncomfortable and radioactive. Any questions?”
Magnus nodded and smiled as no one had any, “Good. Enjoy the Nova. Treat him well.”
Diego ruffled the raccoons headfur, “Thanks Magnus. He’s a beautiful ship.”
Magnus chuckled, “Thanks captain. This was merely a dream ten years ago.”
“You and your team did good,” Diego patted him on the back and retreated to his room to unpack.
Magnus smiled as he set off to do all the remaining diagnostic checks with Hugo and Bruno. The three of them spent hours going over every inch of the ship. Ken checked in on everyone. He was amazed by what Kuga had already done to his room.
The otter had finally emptied his poster tubes. The walls of his room were adorned with wall scrolls. Each one of them depicted scenery from around Japan. The otter grinned when he saw Ken.
“A taste of home!” Kuga chuckled, “So I don’t forget the beauty.”
“These are a nice touch,” said Ken as he leaned in to examine them more closely.
“Mount Fuji is always iconic,” Kuga patted the scroll with the volcano, “A source of calm, but can erupt at any time! A reminder that something bad can happen at any time, but you should always have a plan for those bad times.”
“And to not panic,” said Ken.
“That’s right,” Kuga grinned, “That is why I am always determined. Bad times can happen at any moment, but I can not let them stop me from enjoying my life.”
“That’s why you’re so good at being Stumbles,” Harvey leaned against the doorway.
Kuga laughed, “That’s right. I may be clumsy at times, but I will always do my best.”
The dingo looked over the scrolls, “Hmm… I should have brought pictures of Seville with me. Being surrounded by home seems like a sensible solution to help yourself mentally to get through the dullness of space.”
“I guess we can travel to Japan when we need a getaway,” said Ken.
Harvey smiled, “I guess we’ll be invading your space Kuga.”
“All friends are always welcome to Space Nippon,” Kuga bowed.
Rasul passed by them on his way to the front of the ship. The wolverine stopped at his station to double check their passage. He then slumped down into the copilot seat. He lowered the seat all the way down so he could fit next to the console.
“Going good Lightning?” he asked.
“All's good here Commander Cookie,” said Hyperion.
“Ready to set up autopilot?” Rasul flipped a few switches.
“I believe so,” said the fennec, “We’ve checked and cleared all systems. And we’re locked in on your route.”
The wolverine tapped the console screen and punched in a passcode, “Alright, setting up confirmation for you. When you’re ready.”
Hyperion punched in his own passcode and engaged the autopilot, he got on the PA system, “Ship is now on autopilot. Captain Lopez, confirm the after launch briefing.”
Diego came into the cockpit and took the microphone from Hyperion, “Everyone convene in the galley in ten minutes.”
The bat ruffled the fennecs headfur, making his ears flop about. He chuckled and pushed at the bat and shooed them all away from the cockpit. It didn’t take long for everyone to show up at the table in the galley. Diego sat at the head of the table with Ken at the other end, and everyone else between them.
“Easy parts over,” Diego started, “We have a three month long journey ahead of us. We have a lot of work ahead of us. Our course has us passing by Mars. There we’ll be dropping off fresh supplies for them. Rasul and Hugo, you’ll be in charge coordinating the target drop. Bruno, you’ll be dropping two new satellites into Mars orbit to improve communications.”
“After the Mars drop, we have a unique opportunity which will require precision targeting,” said Diego, “Myself, Kuga, and Rasul will coordinate this one. We’ll be passing Ceres with maybe fifty kilometers between us and our projected path. We’ll be launching ten probes onto its surface. We’ll also be dropping a satellite to fall into the asteroid belt's orbit. Marc and Harvey, you’ll be in charge of collecting the data that gets sent back.”
“Ay, ay, cap’n,” Marc saluted.
“Now the fun part,” said Diego, “On our approach to Jupiter, Hyperion and Errol will be busy with getting us into a stable orbit over Europa. During this time, we’ll be coordinating efforts to launch satellites into orbits around Jupiter, Europa, Callisto, Io, and Ganymede. There’s two satellites for each of them.”
“Callisto, Io, and Ganymede will be receiving rovers,” Diego continued, “Ken, Kuga, and Bruno, you’ll be working together to get them up and moving after they land. Keep in mind, anything can go wrong when they drop to the surface. I honestly have low hopes for the rover to hit Io in a safe location. Magnus and Rasul, you’ll be responsible for finding suitable areas to land on Europa.”
“We’ve done countless hours of training, and we’re now entering an area of unpredictable events,” said Diego, “I believe we can pull this off though. You guys have been a great crew and we work well together. I know there’s going to be a few mistakes, and I promise to keep my cool the best I can. Just know if I yell at you, it’s done with love.”
“O’ course it is, I get a boner everytime ye do it now,” Marc joked.
Diego chuckled, “If there’s any questions about the mission, don’t hesitate to ask. Commander Malouf and Doctor Thorn are also available to answer any questions. Anything concerning any problems with the Nova itself, bring it up with Magnus, Hugo, and Bruno.”
“Thank you captain,” Rasul stood up, “We know the mission. We’ll go over further instructions once we reach Europa. Until then, enjoy yourselves. We’ll be rotating between five hour shifts for the pilots and engineers. You’ll find the shifts on your datapads in your rooms. We all have our responsibilities to get us to our destination safely.”
Errol went to the cockpit and Hugo went to engineering. The rest of them had free time and started to explore the ship. Diego stood up from the table and beckoned Rasul to follow him. The bat led the wolverine to his room and closed the door.
“Captain?” Rasul blushed as the bat took his hands.
“Commander,” Diego grinned as he pushed his spaded nose against the wolverines.
“I like it when you give orders,” Rasul grinned.
Diego chuckled as he started to undo the front of the wolverine’s coveralls, “Then I order you to celebrate another perfect launch with me.”
Rasul pushed into a kiss with Diego. The wolverine shook the sleeves off as his coveralls slid to the floor. His underwear was already bulging as he was so turned on. The bat started to undo his own coveralls. The two of them quickly took off the rest of their clothes. Diego pushed Rasul onto his bed and got over the top of him.
Rasul wrapped his legs around the bats waist as they pushed back into their kiss. The wolverine did his best to keep his moans down as Diego pumped his eleven inch prick alongside the wolverine’s pulsing nine inch member. Diego reached a hand down to position himself against the wolverine’s tight hole.
Thick pre glazed the folds of Rasul’s pucker. Within moments the bat broke his way into him. Rasul growled in pleasure as the bat started to work himself slowly through the tight ring. Inch by inch he buried himself into him. His heavy balls churned as he grinded firmly against his commander.
Rasul gasped out, “Ohhh...Papa Grande…”
Diego chuckled as he bit around the wolverine’s shoulder. He started to plow down against Rasul firmly. This caused him to lose his inhibitions as he moaned out loudly. The bat was giving him a thorough pounding as he flooded the tight hole full of pre. Lewd noises emanating from the both of them.
Rasul dug his claws into the bat’s back. His legs tightened around Diego’s midsection as he felt his cock tense up. He clenched his walls down the best he could around the thick tool the bat plunged into his depths. He let out a loud cry of pleasure as he started to cum from the pounding into his hole.
Diego growled around the wolverine’s shoulder aggressively as he took it home. With several long and hard thrusts, the bat started to empty out into him. Rasul tightened his grip around the bat. He was holding on for dear life as he huffed out heavily from such a sensual time with his captain. Diego pulled up from the wolverine’s shoulder. Drool dribbled down from his lips. He pushed into a deep and passionate kiss with Rasul as he emptied himself out.
Rasul whimpered beneath the bat. The two them made out as they laid in their sex for several moments. Diego leaned back as he pulled the wolverine’s hips up with him. He bit into his lower lip as his hands rubbed against Rasul’s belly. Rasul giggled as he jumped from the gentle and sensual touches against his full gut.
“Mmm, thank you Cookie,” Diego smiled.
“Anytime Papa Grande,” Rasul chuckled as he held hands with him.
“Good thing these rooms are soundproof,” Diego teased him.
“Mostly soundproof,” Rasul sighed as he clenched his hole tightly around the bats cock which was starting to soften up.
Diego leaned down and smooched Rasul on the nose as he pulled free. Rasul gasped as he suddenly felt empty. He flexed his rump tight to insure he didn’t leak too much. The bat passed him his underwear.
“Come on cutie,” said Diego as he started to get dressed, “Let’s get us some dinner. Then we can come back and cuddle a bit.”
Rasul sighed as he sat up, “Yeah, that sounds good.”
