Under Ice: The Journey (4)
The crew are making their way across the solar system in the starship Nova. They have supplies to drop off at Mars and they have a one time shot to shoot probes into Ceres. Bruno and Harvey are also cooking everyone a special dinner but something interrupts the festivities.
17 December 2082
Everyone was settled into their routine. The ship was also starting to look lived in. Hugo and Bruno broke into the party supplies and started to liven up the ship with streamers. They also pasted a paper Yule tree to one of the walls in the lounge. They ran strands of wire over the table and hung miniature flags up to show off which countries everyone was from. Magnus got a little grumpy with them for wasting perfectly good wire.
Rasul showed up in time to save Hugo and Bruno from further reprimand, “Come on Wrenches, Sparky. We need to set up for the Mars drop.”
“Yes sir,” Hugo and Bruno quickly fell in line with Rasul and followed him up to the cockpit as Magnus stomped back to engineering.
Rasul took his seat and started to prepare the coordinated effort, “Alright. Hugo, I need you to go to engineering and wait for my signal. Just like I showed you. When I tell you to release the clamps, hit them. We have a five second gap for error. If the supply shuttle is still stuck to us, we won’t be able to deliver to Mars. Bruno, you’ll be on standby and we’ll drop the satellites a minute later. Double check their codes before we drop. If the numbers are off, they may not make it to orbit.”
“Yes sir,” Hugo nodded.
“Go check the systems,” said Rasul, “We have twenty minutes to fire.”
Hugo and Bruno set off to work. Hugo checked that the two shuttles were ready for delivery. Bruno was underneath him going over the satellites codes. Once he was satisfied he rolled them into the launch bay. Hugo readied the release clamps.
Rasul came on overhead, “Alright Hugo. Get ready for release.” Hugo waited for the wolverine, “In five… four… three… two… release.”
Hugo initiated the clamp release. Both shuttles floated off of the ship. There was then a roar from the sides of the ship as their engines carried them both down to Mars.
“Good job Wrenches,” Rasul said, he then turned his attention to Bruno, “Ok Sparky. Get ready.” Bruno was ready at the lower console, “In five… four… three… two… release.”
Bruno engaged the launch tubes. The satellites flew off from the sides of the ship as their thrusters went off. The calculations Rasul prepared with Bruno were spot on. The wolverine activated the satellites to open up and they settled into orbit around Mars.
“Nova to Mars Station, we have initiated the shuttle and satellite drops, please confirm reception,” the wolverine said.
“Confirmed receival of both shuttles and their locations,” a voice came back, “And we’re connecting to the satellites now. We are going to be very happy to have chocolate again.”
Rasul chuckled, “Glad we can bring you some joy.”
“Safe travels to you Nova,” they said, “We’re all kinda jealous.”
“Thank you Mars,” Rasul smiled to himself.
21 December 2082
“Ok. This math has been really difficult to figure out,” said Kuga as he pushed up his glasses, “There’s a lot of factors between us and Ceres.”
The otter was standing on a chair in front of a white board with Diego and Rasul. He was going over Rasul’s trajectories for the probes and adding in his own insight. The otter had them both overwhelmed with the numbers he’d written down. He dragged his pointer from the rough diagram he drew over to a section of numbers.
“With this being a long range target, I’ve taken Cookie’s projection and narrowed it down to this field of coordinates,” the otter then pointed out two of the numbers, “However, between these coordinates, the range between the Nova and Ceres is a little too broad. We have less than a twenty percent chance for these probes to hit.”
Rasul was busy checking over the math, “Damn. You’re right. Even with my projected course, I would have been way off.”
“Two brains make things better,” Kuga stared up at the whiteboard.
“What if we change the coordinates to curve in tighter or have them follow in closer to the other probes?” Diego asked.
“If we make it tighter or closer, we risk the probes colliding or interfering with the other probes' trajectories,” said Kuga, “We can lose signal this way and we’d be flying one or two blindly.”
“If Ceres wasn’t so oddly shaped, it’d be easier to spread them out a bit more,” said Rasul.
“Would we be able to make the probes curve and fire into the sides of Ceres?” Diego asked.
“It’s a good thought,” said Kuga, “But the rockets only turn so sharply. And again, us being able to guess which ones are going to exactly miss is very slim guessing.”
“I guess we stick with what you’ve got Kuga,” said Diego, “I can only hope the other two can hit.” He patted them both on the shoulders, “Good work guys. I’m gonna go tell Magnus to get the belt satellite ready and standby for launch.”
“Roger that Papa Grande!” Kuga saluted him.
“Come on Kuga,” Rasul helped him off the chair he was standing on, “Lets go punch your numbers into the probes.”
Diego went into engineering to relay the information with Magnus. Kuga and Rasul had gone underneath to we’re the probes were stored. The two of them entered in the ten different coordinates and linked them up with Rasul’s console. They both turned bright red as Magnus dropped down.
He was half naked with the sleeves of his uniform wrapped around his waist. The raccoon was drenched in sweat as he’d been in the maintenance tubes all day and his muscles glistened in the dull lighting.
“Gentlemen,” the raccoon gave them a nod as he squeezed by them to load up the satellite, “When you’re done with the probes, let me know so I can get them in the probe launcher.”
“Uh yeah,” said Rasul, “They’re ready when you are.”
“Good,” the raccoon was punching in the codes on the satellite, “How much time do I have until we need to launch?”
Kuga checked his watch, “Twenty two minutes and forty three seconds.”
“Plenty of time,” Magnus pushed the satellite into the launch tube. He then came over to collect the probes. He paused and smiled at them, “Anything else I can help you with?”
“No,” Rasul was beet red, “I think we’re good. Come on Kuga.”
The otter chased after the wolverine as he hurried back up the stairs. Magnus shook his head as he started to load up the probes. He rolled the probe launcher into its slot. He wiped the sweat off of his brow. He untied his sleeves and took his uniform off the rest of the way. He aired out his sweat soaked jock.
“I need to check climate control with Ken after this,” Magnus swung his uniform over his shoulder and climbed his way back up to the engineering console. He pushed his communication button, “Magnus to bridge. Satellite and probes are locked and loaded.”
Diego came into engineering to coordinate the launch with Rasul and Kuga, “You’ve lost all modesty Magnus.”
Magnus shrugged, “You’d want to be naked too if you spent all day in the tubes.”
Diego chuckled as he connected with Rasul, “Though, it does feel a bit hot in here.”
“Temperature’s up a few degrees,” said Magnus as he checked the system, “I’ll go over it with Ken after we finish up here.”
Rasul started to coordinate between Kuga and Diego. The bat readied himself for Rasul’s signal. The wolverine was waiting for the otter to give him a final check. Rasul started to do his countdown. Diego released the probes.
“Probes away,” said the bat.
“Probe launcher is twenty seconds away from reaching a safe distance from the ship,” said Kuga, “Preparing to fire.”
“I’m ready here,” said Rasul.
“Here we go in ten seconds,” said Kuga as he started the spin thrusters on the launcher, “How’s the aim?”
“We’re right on target,” said Rasul.
“Spreading the launch,” Kuga flipped a switch which pointed the probes in ten different directions, “And fire!”
Rasul flipped the ignition for all the probes. They broke off from the spin thruster and cruised away from the ship. Rasul sank in his chair as he watched them blip on his screen.
“Nova to mission control,” he got on the communicator, “Standby for Ceres probes. After running the math with Kuga, we might miss a few. Commander Rasul out.”
“They may not be happy with that result because those are expensive,” Kuga chuckled.
“They’ll be satisfied once we start getting data,” said Rasul, “Now we just have to wait for the probes to hit and for them to respond.”
Rasul got back on the PA, “Diego, ready for satellite launch?”
“Copy that,” Diego said.
As the two of them got the satellite launched, Magnus left Diego to go find Ken. The wolf was playing cards with Hugo and Harvey. The three of them turned red as Magnus came in wearing only his jock.
“Ken, can I borrow you to help check climate control?” Magnus asked.
“Yeah, sure,” Ken folded his cards down, “You guys can split my winnings.”
“Ah yes,” said Harvey, “More pretzels for me to nibble on.”
Magnus led Ken down into the bottom of the ship. He opened up a panel about midway into the ship. He helped give Ken a boost up into the tube and he pulled himself up behind the wolf.
“Just go straight down,” said Magnus as they started to crawl, “You’ll find your own creation waiting for you at the end.”
Ken chuckled, “Good to know my system is being utilized.”
“It was well designed,” said Magnus, “I was most impressed.”
“Thank you,” said Ken.
“There it is,” said Magnus as they got to the end of the tunnel, “Let me squeeze in here.”
The raccoon slid himself under the wolf. Ken did his best to give the raccoon space. Magnus popped the panel off and passed it over his head to the wolf. Ken slid it down the raccoon's body and pushed it down the tube.
Magnus leaned his head up, “Up above your head is a small tool case, just pop it open and pass me the flashlight and the soldering iron.”
Ken did as he said and gave him the tools. Magnus stuck the flashlight in his mouth and tilted his head back down. He poked around with his claws and soldering iron. He was checking each wire and component. He spit the flashlight out of his mouth.
“Ok, one of the sensors is burned out,” said Magnus, “Reach into my jock and pull out the little baggie.”
Ken blushed, “Oh?”
“I brought along a few replacements,” Magnus chuckled, “I wouldn’t be very good at my job if I didn’t think about these things.”
Ken reached into the band of the raccoons jock and pulled out a baggie full of small components, “Which piece do you need?”
“Pull me out the blue optical sensor,” said Magnus.
Ken pulled out a small, blue optical disc and passed it down to the raccoon. Magnus stuffed his flashlight back into his mouth and went to work. He popped the old disc off with one of his claws. He then turned onto his side with a grunt. He strained as he tried to fit both of his hands into the slot.
He sighed as he sat up a little, “Ok. I can’t hold this in place and solder at the same time. My hands are too big. I’ll hold the flashlight. You squeeze under me and do the repair.”
“Sure thing,” Ken took the soldering iron from him.
The two of them rotated their positions. Magnus gently put his weight on top of the wolf. Ken blushed deeply as Magnus felt quite nice. The raccoon held himself over the wolf as he held the flashlight in place for him. Ken tilted his head to get a better view of the problem. The wolf slid the optic into place as he started to solder. After a minute the wolf was done.
“Ok, go ahead and reset the system,” he said.
Ken took in a deep breath as Magnus shifted his weight down over his lap. The raccoon hit the reset switch for the climate control. He then ran a diagnostic. It then occurred to him that the wolf beneath him was starting to get hard. Magnus smiled to himself.
“Everything is back to normal,” said Magnus, “The temperature is starting to slowly drop down back to comfortable levels. Good work Ken.”
He slid himself off the wolf. Ken crossed his legs with a deep breath. Magnus passed him the panel to pop it back into place. Ken fit the panel into place while Magnus put the solder and flashlight back. The raccoon scooped up his baggie and started to turn down to the exit.
“Hey Magnus,” Ken said.
Magnus turned back and sat down, “Ken?”
“Silly question,” Ken hesitated.
“I may have a silly answer,” said Magnus.
“Well, uh… Would you, you know?” Ken hesitated again.
Magnus took control of the situation and caressed the wolf’s cheek, “I don’t see why not. You’re just my type.”
Ken shivered, “Yeah?”
“Yeah,” Magnus pulled Ken to him.
The wolf gasped as his lips met with the raccoons. Magnus helped the wolf undo his uniform as his jock started to stretch out. Magnus helped him out of the coveralls as Ken slid his shirt off. Magnus pulled off the wolf’s underwear with one hand as he pushed him onto his back.
The raccoon slid his hand up between the wolf’s thighs and tugged against his engorged balls, “So, do you top or bottom?”
“Whatever you want,” Ken was rapidly swelling up to his full thirteen inch length.
Magnus slid the wolf’s legs over his back as he went down below. The raccoon shoved his snout up against the wolf’s taut rump. He started to greedily lick into Ken. The wolf tried to clutch at the walls as the muscled brute rimmed roughly into his depths. Magnus slid his hands over the wolf’s belly, rubbing against him tenderly.
“Oh..f...fuck Magnus,” Ken managed to stutter out.
The raccoon slipped his jock down, freeing his thick, eleven inch dick. Everything about this raccoon was huge. The raccoon pulled up from the wolf’s hole and slowly slid his tongue over the hefty balls and up the towering cock. The scrawny wolf certainly was packing heat. Magnus pulled himself up as his head and shoulders pressed up against the top of the tube.
The raccoon leaned over the wolf as he started to press his cocktip against the spit drooling hole. Ken took in a few deep breaths as he realized Magnus was just as thick as he was. The wolf gripped his hands against the bulging biceps of the raccoon as felt the head push into his folds.
“Gently,” Ken arched his back as he tensed up.
“Shh,” Magnus caressed a hand behind the wolf’s head, “Just relax, I’ll take it easy.”
Magnus slowly rolled his hips forth. The wolf groaned out as the raccoon worked inch after inch into him. The raccoon was the thickest he’d ever taken. He was treating Ken with respect. Unlike Marc, which Ken ended up in too many drunk situations with and both of them were rough with each other.
This was sensual. Magnus leaned down and pushed his lips over the wolf’s. Ken turned his head to fully lock his maw with him. Magnus managed to fit every inch of himself into the wolf. His hips worked gently as he greatly enjoyed how tight and warm Ken was. This was the kind of heat he enjoyed.
Ken rubbed his hands along the firm arms as the towering beast they belonged to was working his hole. Ken felt himself fully relax as he got used to the fat pole pumping through him. Magnus was really into making out with him too. The wolf had regrets for not trying to flirt with him sooner.
Magnus pulled away from the kiss as he pulled the wolf up against his lap. The raccoon slid his maw over the wolf’s cock and started to pick up the pace into short and fast thrusts. This caused the wolf to fall into a new set of moans. Magnus moaned over the fat cock which he managed to poke at the back of his throat. He was really enjoying the taste of the pre in his maw as he suckled away on the wolf’s swollen shaft.
Magnus drove Ken even more over the edge. The raccoon gripped beneath the oversized grapefruit of a knot at the base of his cock. Ken helplessly started to cum hard into the raccoons maw. His eyes widened a bit from the amount of cum that rushed into his maw. Magnus greedily drank down all he could before it started to seep out from his lips.
The uncontrollable rush of the wolf’s cum turned the raccoon on in such a way he didn’t know about. Magnus gave in a deep push as he grinded himself hard between the wolf’s legs. As he was gulping down the thick load, he started to empty himself out. Ken squirmed under him as he felt the surge of cum flood his insides. The draining of his balls and the deep cream filling he was getting made him moan out in all sorts of volumes.
Magnus pulled up from the wolf’s cock with a gasp for air. Cum dribbled down his chin as he started to lick the wolf’s tool clean of the cum that escaped his lips. The wolf went back to gripping against those solid arms. The raccoon kept himself pressed in as he flexed his tool up. He felt the tense pressure of his loins ease up as he kept cleaning the wolf off with his tongue.
Ken pulled the raccoon down to him. He started to lick the cum clean from his chin and lips. They both then pushed back into a passionate kiss. The two of them held onto each other until the both of them softened up. Magnus rolled onto his side, pulling the wolf against him.
“Mmm, danke schoen,” Magnus cuddled Ken in his thick arms.
Ken shivered a bit from the intense pleasure they’d just shared, “Oh no, thank you.”
Magnus chuckled as he pulled the wolf in tight, “Let’s get out of here and grab a shower. I’ll help you clean up.”
Ken chuckled, “I think I’d like that. I might need a little help walking.”
Magnus slid his jock back up his legs. He stuffed his bag of parts back into the band. He helped Ken get his clothes back on. The two of them crawled their way out of the tube. Magnus flipped himself down to the lower deck. He then lifted Ken down. The wolf was indeed unsteady on his legs. The raccoon chuckled as he guided them to the shower.
A message sounded from the cockpit, “Come in Nova. Pekko here.” The possum sounded excited, “We are confirmed for satellite link up. We look forward to your report”
“General Aldin here,” Bruce came on, “Just wanted to thank you boys for the Mars drop. They were very thankful. And good shooting on the satellites. We’re able to transfer more data between the planets. At a faster rate too!”
“And good job pleasing the general!” said Pekko, “Allen will be on standby once you start analyzing the data from the probes.”
“See?” Kuga said to Rasul, “They weren’t mad at the chance of missing a few.”
“Speaking of which,” said Rasul, “We’re about to have impact.”
Him and Kuga pulled up the tracker. The satellite was connected to the probes and showed their approach. Diego and Hugo came over to watch with them. They watched intently as the probes made their impacts. A few seconds later, nine of them came online.
“Hey! One of the rogue’s hit something!” Kuga bounced happily.
Rasul let out a sigh of relief, “Wow… Good job Kuga.”
“Good job Cookie!” Kuga danced around, “This is great!”
“I have Marc on standby in the research lab to receive the information,” said Diego.
“I’ll go help him,” Rasul was relieved the long distance launch worked better than they thought.
25 December 2082
They were one day away from their destination. They decided to take the day to celebrate Yule. Bruno and Harvey combined their powers in culinary prowess to actually cook up a decent meal for all of them. One individual made the entire ship feel self conscious. Kuga had the foresight to get all of them gifts.
“Don’t worry!” Kuga told all of them, “These are just small gifts to show my appreciation for our friendship. There are always more days for gifts!”
Kuga had given all of them tiny feral versions of their species. When he indulged they were handmade by him everyone felt more ashamed. It was incredible how much cheer and love Kuga gave them all and not once did any of them think like him. Kuga himself was content with just being there.
Hugo was busy doing a diagnostics check in engineering while Diego was monitoring the cockpit. The bat stretched out his wings with a yawn. The food was starting to smell really good. He hoped they would finish soon so he could get some sleep.
Marc was passing the time in the research lab along with Julio. The hyena had taken an interest in the kangaroo’s work. Julio had taken him for just being a lucky idiot the whole time, but was impressed at his in-depth knowledge about the data samples being sent to them from Ceres.
“Ye see on probe three,” Marc pulled up the data screen, “There’s a large composite o’ phlogopite. It’s a type o’ mica. Good source o’ magnesium if ye wanna lick it. But here en probe fo’, there’s anudder type o’ mica. Clintonite. It’s quite brittle. And it’s typica’ en limestone and skarns.”
“Uh, huh,” Julio nodded trying to follow along, “What’s a skarn?”
“Skarns are pretty,” said Marc joyfully, “The’r usually formed by hydrothermal fluids mixin’ up the protolith wit’ igneous or sedimentary origins.”
Julio nodded again and had more questions. Marc was happy to talk. Magnus was lifting weights in the storage room along with the company of Ken and Rasul. Ken and Rasul were exchanging notes about what they could expect from Europa as the raccoon worked out. Magnus didn’t quite understand most of what Ken was talking about, but he enjoyed their presence.
Bruno checked in on them, “Foods almost ready!”
Magnus set his weights down. Ken passed him a towel as he dabbed himself dry. They turned to head into the galley but the lights on the ship dimmed and the red emergency lights kicked on.
“Everyone buckle up!” came Diego’s voice over the PA, “We’ve got a storm heading our way.”
Magnus turned tail and ran up to the cockpit. Rasul hustled in behind him. Ken went into the galley to help Bruno and Harvey secure the food. Bruno turned the heat off on the stove and slid a cover over the top. He locked the hatch over the hot skillets.
“I hope they don’t overcook themselves,” said Harvey.
“Now’s not the time to worry about that,” Bruno pushed them over to the table, “Get strapped in.”
Bruno ran to the rear of the ship and strapped in with Hugo. Hyperion and Errol had made their way to the front. The both of them had snuck in a nap but were now wide awake. Diego pulled himself out of the pilots seat and set Hyperion in it. The fennec was thankful when Diego readjusted the seat for him.
The bat dropped into his captain's chair, “Alright boys. The sensors just picked it up.”
“I see it,” said Hyperion as he flipped a few switches, “Everyone hold on, I’m changing our trajectory!”
“Oh, this is gonna get barfy,” said Rasul.
“Deep breathing everyone!” Hyperion turned the steering to port.
The ship protested with a groan as they shifted. The gravity drive adjusted from the sudden movement. Tiny particles started to hit the starboard side of the ship. Hyperion held his breath as he tilted the steering even further. The sound of larger chunks started to beat against the side of the ship.
“Fuck,” Hyperion strained as he leaned the steering a bit more.
A retching sound came from the lounge. The fennec kept his eyes on the radar as he held their position. Something large slammed off the starboard followed by several smaller chunks. The asteroids finished their bombardment of the ship. Once Hyperion felt they were safely cleared from the storm he pushed the ship back onto it’s designated path.
“Damage report?” Diego asked.
Rasul was checking the camera’s on the outside of the ship, “One camera gone. There’s a crack in one of the solar panels. And one of the panels on the starboard bow has a large dent and is hanging loose.”
Magnus unbuckled, “I’m on it sir.”
“Be careful out there!” Diego unbuckled and followed him, “We don’t know if we’ve fully passed the storm.”
“I have to replace the panel,” Magnus said as he jogged his way to the airlock.
Diego chased, “I’ll go with you. And we can grab Hugo.”
Magnus stopped as he turned to face Diego, “No. There’s no need to risk anyone else. I need to repair this quickly. And if the storm’s not finished, it can penetrate our oxygen regenerator.”
Diego hesitated as Magnus stared him down, “Get the panel on, and get back in here as fast as you can. Take Hugo to make sure your line is secure.”
Magnus nodded, “Fine. HUGO!”
Magnus and Hugo hurriedly slid one of the replacement panels into the airlock. They both stripped down to their underwear and Diego helped them get into their spacewalk suits. Once they double checked their latches and oxygen, Diego climbed up out of the airlock and engaged the hatch doors for them.
Hugo latched the safety tether to Magnus. The tiger then latched himself to the inside of the ship. The outer door opened as yellow lights circled overhead. Magnus felt his feet leave the ground. He stuck a magnetic handle to the panel and moved out onto the outside of the ship. He felt the pull of the speed around them. He activated the magnetizers in his boots.
He stuck his feet onto the side of the ship and found himself a stable position. The raccoon gripped tight to the panel and started his trek across the ship. Hugo was peeking over the edge of the airlock, feeding Magnus slack with every step he took.
“Magnus, you doing good?” Diego’s voice came into his communicator.
“Doing well boss,” said Magnus as he walked as fast as he could to the front of the ship.
“Be careful of the wheel,” said Rasul, “You’ll have to go up and over to avoid getting your line swiped.”
“I know,” said Magnus, “No time for that.”
“He’s right captain,” said Hyperion, “There’s more heading this way.”
“Magnus, turn back,” said Diego, “Hyperion, turn us out.”
Magnus stopped just short of the wheel. He unclasped his line and attached it to the ship. Hugo squinted, the tiger was torn between betraying the captain or helping Magnus. He then figured out that Magnus detached his line.
“Uh...Captain,” said Hugo, “He took off his tether and is still going forward.”
“Magnus! Turn back!” Diego sounded distressed.
“No captain,” he said, “I don’t want to risk you all dying. I am only one.”
Magnus turned off his communicator. The raccoon stood there for a moment as the wheel spun around and around. He stepped onto the rotating platform and around and around he went. He didn’t wait before stepping off the rotating platform. He got spun around as he stepped off. He stumbled backwards down the side of the ship before regaining his balance.
He took in a deep breath as he pulled the panel with him to his destination. He pulled up against the damaged panel to try and break it free. He screamed at it in frustration as he started to kick it as hard as he could. The seal started to break. He kept it up until the panel broke free and zoomed off into space.
He pulled out the sealer and slammed the panel down into place. He started to pump along the edges of the panel. He could hear the sound of tiny particles hitting the side of his suit as he worked. He kept his head down as he stepped his foot onto the seam of the panel. He started to seal at a faster rate. He looked up for a moment and saw Hugo standing on the other side of the wheel with his arms open, beckoning Magnus over to him.
The raccoon started to work faster, “That idiot should have stayed in the ship.”
The intensity of the particles hitting his suit grew. He started to see scratches over his faceplate. Magnus finished and stood up straight as he faced the tiger. Hugo looked like he was about to cry. Magnus took a deep breath as he watched the wheels rotation. He released the magnetizer on his boots.
The raccoon flew back at incredible speeds. He narrowly missed the bar on the wheel and reactivated his boots. He slammed hard into Hugo. The both of them started skidding down the side of the ship from the impact. Magnus latched the short tether the tiger still had onto himself. Magnus let go of Hugo and turned off his boots again as he flipped upside down.
The two of them flipped over the airlock entrance. Magnus roared as he swung the end of the long tether around his arms. He felt like his arms were getting pulled out of their sockets as him and Hugo slammed into the airlock wall. The raccoon slammed his hand against the button to close the airlock.
Gravity hit them like a ton of bricks. Magnus and Hugo laid there on the floor. The both of them huffing and puffing. There was a large crack over the top of the raccoons helmet from where he hit the airlock. Magnus slapped the tiger against the arm.
“Don’t scare me like that,” the raccoon's eyes were watering.
“Back at you crazy German,” the tiger laughed.
Magnus joined him in the laughter before passing out. Magnus woke up with Julio standing over him. The doctor was applying some cream to his ears. He reacted in pain.
“Well hello there hero,” Julio gently rubbed the cream against his ears, “When you cracked your helmet, your ears got a little radiation burn. You’ll be fine though.”
Magnus reached his hands up to touch his head. There was a bandage wrapped around him. He pressed down against the back and it felt tender. His arms were quite sore too.
“You whacked your head pretty good,” the hyena handed him a bottle of water, “Don’t get up too fast. Ease yourself into it.”
Magnus slowly moved himself up. His head was throbbing. Julio handed him some pain medication. He threw the pills into his maw and chugged the whole bottle of water down. He went to go stand up but Julio pushed against his chest.
“Uh, uh,” the hyena handed him another bottle of water, “Get yourself reoriented.”
“Is Hugo ok?” he finally asked.
“He’s fine, just a little bruised,” said Julio as held a flashlight up to the raccoon's eyes, “Follow.”
Magnus complied.
“Do you remember what happened?”
“I repaired the panel. Hugo risked his life to save me. With fast thinking I saved the both of us by wrapping my arms around the tether as we skidded across the ship and slammed into the airlock.”
“Any dizziness or double vision?”
Magnus shook his head.
“Incredible,” Julio smirked, “Your head is just as strong as the rest of you. I don’t think you have a concussion. Should you feel that any of your symptoms have changed, you let me know immediately. You’re just going to have a sore head for awhile.”
Magnus chugged down the second water bottle. He felt so dehydrated and exhausted. Julio stood outside of medical and waved someone down. Diego came into the room. At first he looked furious. He then did his best to hold back his tears as he leaned down to hug Magnus.
“Don’t ever do that again,” the bat held around him tightly.
Magnus choked back tears himself as he shakily hugged Diego back, “I’m sorry Captain.”
“Come on,” Julio held out his arm, “Dinner awaits us. Help me get him up.”
Diego nodded and got on the other side of the raccoon as him and the hyena got him to his feet. Magnus felt a bit disoriented as they guided him out to the galley. He turned red as everyone applauded and cheered when he walked in. Kuga bounced up to him and threw his arms around him.
“You’re alive!” Kuga pushed his head against the raccoon pecs.
Magnus slid his arms around him, “I’m sorry I scared you all.”
“Yeah, but you pretty much saved us,” said Rasul as he hugged around the otter and raccoon, “We got broadsided again with smaller rocks. Any one of them could have broken through the tanks.”
Magnus spent the next few minutes getting hugged by everyone. He could feel his eyes welling up again as Diego guided him into a seat. Harvey and Bruno started to bring dinner over. It was burnt just a little and had gone a little cold. But everyone was happy to be sharing a meal together.
Diego took out one of the bottles of whiskey and poured everyone a shot, “Happy to be alive. This one’s for Magnus!”
“For Magnus!”
The raccoon couldn’t hold it in anymore. Tears rolled down his cheeks as he threw his shot down his throat. Everyone cheered in joy. They were only one day away from their destination and, thanks to Magnus, they were going to make it.
