A Whole New Party
Part 7
for Engy
by Draconicon
With the moonlight shining down on the dozen kobolds near the stables, it was a miracle that none of them had been spotted yet. Audron's first reaction was to wave his hand, casting the best illusion spell that he could over them. There were people that would feel the magic being cast - he was hurrying too much to hide it - but it was better to make people suspicious than it was to allow them to figure out what was going on out there. The minute that the kobolds were seen, they'd be in danger. They were monsters, as far as Lork-Lund was concerned. They'd die.
The second thing he did was pull his robe tight and leap out the window. The kobolds grinned as he ran towards them despite his disguise, each of them grinning like fools.
"What are you doing?" he hissed.
"Dragon! We came to help!" the leader said, grinning up at him. Then he hugged Audron's leg. "So glad you safe."
"Yes, I'm safe, but you can't help me."
"Can so! Ready to fight, ready to steal. Want food? Got food!"
The kobolds chattered happily, lifting up a giant roast duck that had obviously been pilfered from some inn a few doors down. They were so proud of themselves that the first thing to come to mind - to berate them for stealing from someone else - just died on his tongue. Instead, he stared at them in complete disbelief.
This wasn't supposed to happen.
The whole thing at the other dungeon had been meant to be a quick little trip, something to make sure that he placed all the bait for his future minions, and then a quick departure. Yes, the kobolds had attached themselves to him, but that should have been handled right at the start. He sent them away at the end to ensure that they didn't become a problem for him, and that he didn't become a problem for them. So much for that working.
"How long have you been in town?" he whispered.
"We -"
"Quietly," he hissed again, looking around rapidly. They were loud little things, and their happiness, while infectious, was a problem.
"Oh, we here for hours. Spent most of that looking for you," the kobold whispered.
"Why?"
"Why? We kobold, you dragon."
As if that was the whole of it...and considering how the bad dragons had made kobolds shift from what they had been originally - dragon-blooded reptiles that were part of the world - to what they were now, that wasn't too surprising. They were made to lose some portion of their will around a dragon, and if that meant that they were going to be a little less effective on their own, then they didn't seem that bothered by it.
It's probably some kind of magical addiction or something. One of my uncles would probably know...
But it didn't matter what it came from, he supposed. They were here now, and from the looks of theings, they weren't going to listen if he tried sending them away again. They wanted to be with their dragon, and that meant that they were going to push all the limits to get what they wanted.
Gods.
Fucking.
Damn.
It.
Audron took a deep breath while trying not to look angry. They were really just trying to help, but this was not going to help him with his plans, nor was it going to make anything easier while taking the minions-to-be under his wings. The longer that he could go without being found out, the better, and these little guys were going to expose him in seconds if he didn't do something about it.
Wait...wait...
He still needed to get another dungeon under his thumb so he could keep this little illusion of battle going. He couldn't leave the party, but the kobolds could. That was it. That was it.
"Hey, guys. I need a favor from you," he whispered.
"Favor!"
"Work for dragon!"
"What need? Will do!"
"I need you guys to find me a new lair," he said, trying to think of the right way to put it. After all, there were a lot of different things that the stupid little guys could end up doing if he didn't give them good orders. Not that he liked them being stupid, or believed that they all were, but - ugh. Too many things to think about right now. "I know just the one, too, but I can't get there for a few days. Do you think that you guys can get it ready for me?"
"Yay! House-Making!"
"Can do! Love it!"
"Where, Dragon, where?"
They were keen, at least, which was definitely something. It was better than the alternative, for damn sure. Audron nodded, pulling a paper map that he'd bought earlier in the afternoon from his robe pocket. He'd already memorized it, but it would have been handy to keep it for personal reference.
But this way, at least he wasn't totally screwed with keeping his plans going. He could at least see to it that the little guys secured the cave for him, making sure that the dungeon was properly readied for his arrival. Better than doing nothing and hoping to figure it out when he got there, for sure.
"You see this spot? Out that way?" he asked, pointing to the map and then to the west.
"Yeah-yeah."
"I want you to go here, and start setting things up for me. Lots of naughty traps, and lots of things for me to enchant. Like the last place, but deadlier. Stronger."
"Can do!" They grinned to each other, and then swarmed forward, forming a scaly mass around the base of his legs as they nuzzled against him, almost like they were as happy for the task as they were to be around him again. "We go now! Find and do! Find and do!"
And just like that, they were gone, heading off into the darkness and taking the illusion spell with them. Hopefully, it would last long enough for them to get out of town, considering that it was the main thing that was keeping anyone from killing them, but if it didn't...
Fuck. If it didn't, then he would probably end up breaking his disguise spell and escorting them out. It would be the right thing to do, and that meant that he had to do it.
Screw the good-guy thing, sometimes...
Shaking his head, he walked back through the inn to his room. He could feel Olfel, Red-Arms, and Viola still in the inn, but he could tell that Kyo'Thar had already left, going somewhere else. The orc was probably experimenting with the wand, which was all for the best. Each of the magical items had been infected with something meant to start bringing them back to the side of good, to 'correct' them. The evil dragons would have been using corruption, but he hoped that his personal take on it would do even better.
Turn them good, make them happy, keep them eager to show that they can be better than they were: win all the way around.
He nodded to himself as he reached his bedroom. He closed the door, laid down, and then quickly slipped off to the land of the dreamers.
#
Everyone slept differently. Viola, wrapped up in bed with her new sword at her side, dreamed of a world where she had become the general that she had been trained for, but the more that she fought her way to the top, the more that things changed. She had the ferocity of a beast, but soon began to take on the qualities of one, as well. She started to lose her beauty, becoming something more bestial, and her cheeks were covered in scales. Her hair fell out, and her curves disappeared. It was as if the world had proclaimed what she would be, and what she would be was a male, a beast, something that was better suited for battle than the woman that they mocked.
Red-Arms dreamed, oddly enough, of peace. He dreamed of having his neck collared, restrained, and he dreamed of someone else calling the shots. He dreamed of the world no longer being filled with sacs of blood that he had to drain for his own sanity, but with people. Most of all, he felt...calm. Happy. Soft and gentle, able to focus on things that excited him rather than merely calmed him, stimulants rather than sedatives.
Olfel dreamed of everything. With the monocle in his eye as he slept, he dreamed of a world where he knew everything and everyone. He dreamed of a realm where nothing was beyond his reach, where he could do anything he wanted, where nobody could stop him because if they did, he would ruin them. His power, his knowledge, his sight of them was all-powerful, and he knew them down to the most intimate detail...very intimate details, too, considering what he did with his power in his dreams.
Audron, on the other hand, barely slept at all. The platinum dragon was constantly terrified that something was going to go wrong that he wasn't prepared for. The twin events of Red-Arms realizing that there was something off about him, combined with the fact that the kobolds had shown up out of nowhere, had come together to make him realize that he was really not as ready for this as he thought he was. The quick-lived were smarter than they looked, and this world below was definitely not the same as the world above. The dragon realms didn't have nearly the sort of twists and turns that the places down here did, and he had more time to think.
Would have loved to have more of that and less of the terrified what-ifs, Audron thought as he stumbled out of his room the next morning. His head hurt, his eyes burned, and he felt like he had gotten markedly less sleep than the two hours that he had theoretically gotten. That would have been really, really nice.
But it was done, and there was no help for it. He made his way down to the common room, not surprised to find the party all together again. Even Kyo'Thar had returned, though the orc seemed to be carrying himself differently. More happily or something. Maybe the wand was doing him some good, after all.
"What kept you?" Viola asked.
"Some small attempt to sleep."
"Waste of time."
"Obviously," he muttered, rubbing his eyes.
"Are you going to whine all the way there?"
"You're making me come with you, despite paying you all the money."
"Yes. I'm tired of being fucked with."
"I'm not doing it on purpose, and you guys messed up last time, not me."
"Not just you," she corrected.
"Let's get to the horses," Olfel interrupted before it could get more awkward, and they all agreed.
They had bought a stallion for him, one that was obviously not gelded, and was very spirited as he walked up. Audron was almost headbutted more than once as it pranced about its stall, and he barely managed to get out of the way when it kicked at him. Olfel chuckled each time, and he had a sneaking suspicion that the dwarf had intentionally picked a horse that nobody wanted because it wouldn't let anyone ride it.
Shaking his head, he finally managed to make eye contact with the horse. The stallion started as they shared a quick stare, going still as he pushed a charm spell through the brief stare they had.
Now, be nice.
The stallion stomped one forehoof, but no longer fought against him. Instead, he stood there obediently, waiting to be mounted. Audron took one step towards him, then paused.
"Uh...how do you put a saddle on a horse?"
Five minutes later, they were on the road. He didn't see any immediate sign of the kobolds, which made him feel a little bit better. They had probably managed to cover quite a bit of distance over the night before, considering how fast they had been able to track him down to Lork-Lund. Despite riding relatively quickly - and quicker than he would have liked, to be honest - he managed to slow them down. He kept accidentally tripping, or making the horse slow down out of panic, or, occasionally, allowing the stallion off to graze. The rest of the party had to come back for him each time, not willing enough to lose their meal ticket regardless of all the frustration that he was causing them.
And he planned to ride that horse all the way to the end of the journey. Hopefully, he could just see himself die in the dungeon - faked, of course - and then start over as a new rich person, someone else that could send them on quests while they were still using their new items. The longer that he could keep that going, the more that they would change, and the more that he might be able to correct them before starting to claim them properly. He didn't want them to be too strong-willed and dedicated to evil when he Claimed them, or...
Well, rules were rules. If he took them as Claimed while they were still too evil, then they could be taken from him because of him being good and all that. It needed the right time.
#
They eventually stopped to make camp, and when they did, he was all too happy to get off the horse. Riding that way had meant that he was getting his balls all but bashed in, and the feeling of that pressure down there had stopped being fun a long time ago. Audron groaned as he hopped down from the saddle, shaking his head and huffing under his breath. He cupped his groin, shaking his head a few times as he shuffled towards the fire that Olfel was making.
As he sat down, he felt the stare from the orc to his left. Kyo'Thar was eyeing him up for...something, he didn't know what. There was something weird there, something that made the disguised dragon feel very different. He hoped that it was nothing serious, but considering everything else that was going on, he honestly didn't know what could be more or less serious right now.
"So, what the hell are we hunting for this time?" Viola asked, polishing her new blade. "I notice that we're not on a bullshit scavenger hunt this time."
"That's because it's simpler this time," Audron said. No time for something more complicated. "Just a simple set of traps, as far as I remember."
"As far as you remember?" Olfel asked. "That's a convenient thing in case of not telling us something."
"I've wandered far; I cannot be asked to remember everything that I've seen."
"No, but this seems important."
No, it's just keeping you from killing kobolds, you damn dumb dwarf...
Not that he could say that. Instead, he turned away, hoping that his illusion spells and other tricks were keeping that monocle from picking up the worst of his deceits.
"Anyway. It is a dungeon filled with traps. At the base of it is a fountain of great good."
"And you're sending the bunch of us in there because..." Viola asked, cocking her head to the side.
"Well, it won't make you weaker, if that's what you're worried about."
"If this is some crock about rehabilitation, this is gonna find a few bones to break," she threatened, holding up her blade.
He didn't doubt that she meant the threat, either. None of them had become particularly good yet, but they were not as threatening as they had been at the start, when he had first met them. Maybe the magic was starting to take effect, maybe not, but it was doing something.
"I'm just sending you there because you're strong enough to make it there. Once I can get down to the center, I can get the fountain and start bottling it in potions."
"What'll that be worth?" Olfel asked.
"Akin to millions," Kyo'Thar answered before Audron could. "The raw essence of an element, particularly that of the Twin Axes, is beyond price."
...Shit.
That just about guaranteed that the evil party was going to try and kill him in the dungeon, particularly as the wizard had enough alchemistry to be able to start synthesizing at least a few potions with that sort of wellspring. And more to the point, they might just stop being interested in following the orders of anyone else willing to pay them.
Shit, shit, shit.
They had already stopped paying attention to him, all of them talking about the results of this score, how they were going to spend their money. The only one that had his attention elsewhere, surprisingly, was the orc. The greenskin looked him in the eye, and then smiled.
"Human. A word."
The orc nodded over his shoulder, away from camp, and, desperate to find a solution to his own problem, Audron went along with it. He stood up, pulling his robe closed that little bit tighter, and only slightly winced from the tenderness down below after all that he had gone through.
They walked a good fifty paces from the campsite, losing themselves in some trees. Audron was so deep in his own thoughts that he didn't even see what the orc was doing. He didn't see the wand coming out, and he didn't see it pointing back at him until it was too late.
Or, until it was too late for a normal being.
The green light hit him in the face, and he stumbled, freezing in shock a second later. He looked up to see the orc already in the process of taking off his robe, blinking twice as he realized that the Charm spell was trying and failing to make its way through his system. It was, after all, based on his own magic, and that meant that he wasn't going to be affected by it in the same way that someone else would have been. What was Kyo'Thar thinking, trying to use the wand on the person that had made it?
And then, the orc was naked. The greenskinned wizard turned around, showing off his ass, swaying it from side to side before looking over his shoulder at the disguised dragon.
"That's it. I already know you want this," the wizard muttered.
Want...what? You mean...
He remembered the orcs that had started getting aroused at the temple when he had first arrived, and he remembered what he had been thinking then. They were barely little glimpses of what a tail-raiser might have been thinking, but this was something entirely different. He was struck dumb, staring with his mouth hanging open, his eyes going from the orc's face down to his ass and then back up.
"Yeah, you might not be able to say it, but I know you want this. The way that you were groping yourself, I bet you were staring all that time, wondering what I had under my robes. Well, now you know."
Is this actually happening?
"And the way that you were groping yourself...I was curious too. Curious what you had to show."
Oh gods.
"Take off that robe."
He either obeyed, or he revealed that he wasn't completely controlled. Considering that he had no intention of letting them know that he was so strong, he had no real option. He pulled at the edges of the robe, pulling it apart, revealing what lay between his legs.
Surprisingly, the orc looked interested. He had always believed that orcs were dedicated tops, at least when they were with men. All the things that he'd heard, all the bard stories that the dragons had passed down, all the little tid-bits that his tail-raiser uncle had mentioned, had all implied that orcs never took cock, that they only gave it. It had always seemed like they were more focused on getting their manhood proven than anything else, always showing off how big they were, and how deep their cocks could go.
Yet, here was Kyo'Thar, obviously already changed by the wand, looking back at his dick like it was some sort of treasure in and of itself. The orc backed up slowly, the wizard reaching back and gripping his cock. Audron groaned under his breath as he felt someone else's hand against his shaft, but it was a male, not a female.
This is weird. This is really, really weird...
It wasn't that it didn't feel good. As a matter of fact, it felt very, very good, almost too good for something that he would have been against only a couple of minutes ago. Was it the Charm spell, the magic slipping around his own protections? No, that was still holding strong, still keeping the magic out. So what the hell was happening? Why was he even considering allowing some other guy to take hold of his dick like this?
Grip, stroke, all the way from the base to the head, dragging on the bit of loose skin up there before pulling it back down again. His shaft started rising, and Kyo'Thar hissed.
"It gets bigger?"
"Mmmph..."
"You obviously have some other beast in your bloodline, human. What gives you such size?"
"Mmmph....I...don't know..."
A lie, of course, but it wasn't like he was going to come out and admit that he was a dragon, was it? He still groaned as the orc stroked him, as his shaft rested at the crack between the cheeks. He was on the verge of sliding right in, he realized, and the strange possibility of getting to fuck someone for the first time was warring with his uncertainty and confusion about it being a guy.
I'm not a tail-raiser...
Yet, this wasn't raising his tail. This was allowing someone else to ride his cock, to take it and pleasure it, while he was the one getting all the benefits. Was that something so wrong? He was half-sure that his uncles would argue that point, and he didn't want to think about them right now.
Should I...let him...
The idea wasn't a bad one, and he had to admit that it was kind of hot to think of putting his cock in that big, greenskinned ass. He wanted to feel that sort of heat, that pleasure of someone else taking care of his cock. It wasn't that it was forbidden anymore, but whether he could bring himself to do it.
Kyo'Thar didn't seem to notice any of his distraction or inattention. The orc had probably already experimented with the wand, knew that it gave him power over the minds of others. At the same time, he was getting closer and closer to actually taking it further. Yet, the wizard seemed almost hesitant, almost...scared, if that was even possible. Kyo'Thar lingered with the next stroke, lifting himself up so that the throbbing rod could rest between the cheeks, almost pressing against his pucker as Audron throbbed harder and harder.
"Mmmph...I didn't expect to want this..."
"Mmm? What...what do you mean?"
"I mean...It's different...to be wanted."
Wanted? Needed, almost... he thought as Kyo'Thar went on.
"I am curious what this will feel like...if it will be as intense as the rimming last night was..."
Rimming? That was what he had used the wand for, when it was meant to be a way of getting closer with someone, to feel safe with them, and -
"Ah...ah..."
He gasped as he felt the heat of that pucker pressing against his shaft, almost taking him in right there. But he was that little bit too big, and the orc had no experience back there save for with tongue. Audron wasn't sure whether to groan in annoyance or gasp in relief as Kyo'Thar pulled away again.
"Hmmm...that's most annoying."
"I'm sorry..."
"On your knees."
"Huh?"
"On your knees. A little oral lube should help."
...Oh, hell no.
He was curious enough to allow his cock to be used as a dildo. He was not curious enough to allow his tongue to be used as a lubricant applicator. But what the hell was he going to do? Was he supposed to just reveal himself and hope that he could overpower the orc quickly enough to keep anyone else from noticing? Or was he supposed to just -
"No touch!"
The kobold's voice came from the trees above. The little green guy had already leaped from the boughs of the great trees, falling fast and landing hard right on Kyo'Thar's back. As the orc stumbled to the ground, the kobold stood up, hopping up and down on the wizard's spine.
"No, no, bad! No touch dragon! No touch dragon!"
"Get out of here!" Audron hissed, shooing the kobold away.
With one final stomp and jump, the kobold obeyed, but even as the little reptile ran off, Kyo'Thar whipped his head around, staring at Audron once more. No more with lust, but rather with intense shock.
"Dragon? You're a -"
"I don't suppose there's a bribe to make sure that you didn't hear that?" he asked.
"..."
"...Ah, shit.
He had two choices. He could run off, or he could stand his ground. Considering that running off felt like a pretty bad idea with all the spells that Kyo'Thar had prepared and the fact that the trees would keep him from flying at full speed, it wasn't really a viable option to begin with. It had perhaps a five-percent chance of succeeding compared to the other one. Standing his ground still was only about fifty-fifty in a forest, but it was better than nothing, and if it came down to it...well, he could breathe something to make it a little more even.
He shifted to his bipedal scaly form. Kyo'Thar's eyes went down as his dick grew out that little bit more than it had been, going to something that the orc wouldn't be taking without some serious extra help, even with the 'oral lube' that he mentioned. The more that he changed, the more that he felt his power coming back, and the more capable he felt if he actually had to fight the party.
But he didn't want to. He wanted to make this work, not end the whole thing and start over. Audron sighed as he felt his face growing in again, the squished feeling disappearing as he rubbed the end of his snout. As his wings grew in over his shoulders, and his tail dropped down, the orc got to his feet, staring as he pulled his robe back on.
"Alright, well, you're not screaming, I guess that's something," he muttered. "Do you need something to fix your back after the kobold landed on it?"
"You're not one of the chromatic dragons."
"No, I'm metallic. Platinum, specifically."
"..."
"Yes, a good guy."
"You were the dragon in the other dungeon," Kyo'Thar said.
"Yes."
"You were dead."
"No, just under a very, very good illusion."
"Then -"
"DRAGON!"
That was Olfel, and the sudden thumping and hissing sounds were Red-Arms leaping forward and Viola unsheathing her blade. Audron winced.
"I'm really, really sorry about this."
With an expulsion of magical energy that was fairly unique to dragons, he rocketed into the tree tops. He landed on branches dozens of feet up, and left a crater behind. The explosive release of all that energy had also sent a shockwave through the ground, knocking most of them off their feet.
Most, but not the monk.
Audron had barely landed before the monk was behind him, arm locked against the base of his wings. The human leaned in close, hissing against the dragon's earholes.
"I knew that there was something wrong about you."
"You knew, and did nothing," he muttered, gritting his teeth. "Let go of my wings."
"What happened to me?" the monk whispered.
"What the hell are you talking about?"
"You know."
That meant that the human still didn't want to kill him. Small mercies, then. Not any that he could return, however. Glancing down, he measured the distance between himself and the ground, and he imagined that the monk would survive the fall. Even without all his abilities, he probably would.
"Sorry in advance."
"What -"
Audron threw himself off the branch, rolling in mid-air. He spun and spun and spun, spiraling head over heel until -
CRACK!
They hit the ground, him on top of the monk. Red-Arms was at least stunned, possibly knocked out, but that didn't mean that the other members of the party weren't ready to fight. Audron had barely gotten back to his feet before the same blade that he had 'gifted' Viola with was under his chin, pinning him in place. Olfel was right behind her, holding a crossbow in hand, and even Kyo'Thar, though hesitant, had his staff out and pointed.
This went off the rails very, very quickly.
As he looked around, he realized that the kobolds were coming back. There were at least a half-dozen in the trees around the party, and more were filing in. They looked shocked at first, but then started picking up rocks, sticks, and more from the forest floor. They were ready to fight to protect him, but if they did, they would end up very dead, very fast.
Audron shook his head, trying to subtly gesture them away. The most they did was stop their approach, looking deadly serious about the fact that their dragon was under threat. They were not going to leave until they knew that he was okay, he realized.
Not that the party seemed to know or care. Viola stepped slightly closer, running the edge of her blade along the side of his neck.
"I think that you have some explaining to do, dragon," she muttered.
"..."
"And I suggest that you do it quickly."
"He said that he was the dragon from the other dungeon," Kyo'Thar said. "And I believe that he is telling the truth."
"Fascinating," she muttered darkly. "So, tell me. What makes a dragon hire a bunch of less-than-good adventurers, fake his own death by their hand, and then come back to hire them again? What do you gain from something so very, very stupid as that?"
...Ouch.
Not that it was the first time that someone had wondered if the entire dragon way of finding minions was a little flawed, but it still stung to hear someone rip the whole thing apart like that. Particularly when part of this particular mission was entirely down to his own conception.
"Look -"
"Ah, ah." Viola twitched the blade closer, and it cut the scales against his neck slightly. "Answer very, very carefully, dragon. I'm already very angry. Very, very angry, for that matter. If you don't give me a good answer, you might not walk out of this with your head. You might not walk out of it with your head, anyway, but if you aren't careful, you lose any chance of that."
"..."
"Now...speak."
He looked over their heads again at the kobolds. If they did that, then the kobolds would attack. The kobolds would probably die too, even if they managed to take out one or two of the party. Then the whole thing would have been a waste, and the little guys would be gone. He had to come up with something.
So, he did the one thing that he could think of. He started spinning a bargain...
