Class.
Dorm.
Tavern.
Something.
Anything.
Caelia stumbled out of the sorority house in a daze, her head spinning and her eyes almost doing the same. Their ‘rivals’, the halfling Roselle and the succubus Sar’onnath, were both stuck behind, the latter recovering from the double punch in the face she’d gotten from the Muse and Caelia, the latter complaining about the way that her outsider had been treated. Even that barely penetrated her head except as the fact that she would probably be in trouble later.
In love…with me…
The Muse hadn’t denied it, not strongly enough for it to be believable, and that meant that it was probably true. The most beautiful woman that she had ever seen in her life was in love with plain, little, chubby Caelia Leontina, something utterly impossible to even consider. It had to be a misunderstanding, had to be something –
“Mmm, must you walk so fast?”
No, that purring voice, that deep tone. It had to be something real. And if it wasn’t, then the Muse was worse than a tease.
“I need to go to class,” Caelia said.
“There isn’t any. It’s late in the day.”
“Tavern.”
“You need to stay sober.”
“The dorm.”
“Of course, all the better for a private chat.”
She let out a private, silent scream, but she kept walking regardless. There was no other choice, particularly if she wanted to avoid turning the impending breakdown into a public breakdown, something that she’d never get over even with the amnesty that was allowed for those going through what she was going through.
They walked, and walked, and walked some more. She barely noticed the hard stone anymore, her dragon soles keeping her from feeling the discomfort that human flesh would have noticed in seconds. The glittering blue occasionally distracted her, thinking that she was seeing some gem out of the corner of her eye only to have the reminder that it was just her. Just her. Just her.
She couldn’t think. She saw things, plants, people, other outsiders. They were everywhere, one distraction after another for her bouncing, discombobulated brain to attach to and try and hold onto before it was knocked loose again by her frantic anxiety. That tree, that bush, that fruit, that woman, that man, that bare breast –
That held her attention until she realized that she was staring at the Muse, who had adjusted her silks to allow one breast out and the other to be covered. Caelia covered the side of her head, trying to block out the sight of that dark-skinned flesh, but the image was already in her brain, and it remained there, burned in like a slave brand.
She kept walking, eventually finding her place. She stepped inside, felt the Muse slipping in behind her – shivering at the touch of that smooth flesh against her arm – and then slammed the door.
Harder than she meant to, really. The room shook.
“Goodness, was that needed?” the Muse asked. “Certainly not a beautiful way of coming home.”
“Shut up,” Caelia whispered, whimpering as she went to her bed. “Impossible. Impossible, impossible, no way, uh-uh, not –”
“Dear, you’re not making any sense. Just sit down, please.”
She did that, though she didn’t know if she was listening to orders at that point or not. All she knew was that she was mentally exhausted and had no idea how to handle this impossible idea. She was freaking out, hyperventilating, and –
“Oh, dear.”
And then she was out. She felt herself falling backwards, and a few seconds later, she felt nothing at all.
#
When she woke up, she was no longer in her clothes, but rather in a dressing gown, or a nightgown. It was hard to tell just which. However, it was enough to cover her necessaries while still exposing her chest and her legs more than she would normally choose to do. Doubtlessly that was something that the Muse wanted.
She slowly sat up, finding the Muse leaning against the wall and dozing slightly. Her dark skin was set off more than usual by the gold ornaments she was wearing, and…and that was all she was wearing, Caelia realized.
Oh gods…oh gods…
It was the first time that she had seen the Muse so bare as that, with a slight tuft of black hair down near her sex and completely hairless everywhere below the neck. The other woman was as beautiful as one could imagine, her body oiled and shiny, soft curves that seemed enhanced by size rather than lessened by them. The confidence of the waking woman was diminished but not dissipated, as even in sleep she seemed to have a slight smirk.
She tried to sit up properly, only to bump one of the legs of the bed. Instantly, the Muse was awake.
“Finally,” she muttered.
“What – why are you – you’re completely…”
“Hmm? Oh, yes. Accessories are fine during the day, but during the evening, they matter so very little. Why hide the greatest beauty of all?”
The Muse chuckled, sitting on the floor. The dark-skinned woman reached for her feet, but Caelia pulled her dragon soles back, shaking her head.
“It’s…it’s true, isn’t it?”
“What is, dear?”
“That…you’re in love with me?”
“…” The Muse sighed. “It’s not…untrue.”
“But is it true?”
“It’s hard to say. I’ve not been ‘in love’ with a mortal before, and flings between my people are of a different nature.”
“But do you feel…love…”
The Muse looked up at her, and their eyes met. There was something almost mystical to that stare, something that held her attention and refused to let her go. She wanted to, sometimes, wanted to look anywhere but at those enchanting eyes, but there was something about it…something wonderful…something other that held her.
She stared, and as she stared, she felt the eyes of the Muse looking over her. She felt something that was like the hunger of the audience at the bardic display, and she shivered at that sensation.
She felt something like what she’d felt when she looked at the beauties of the college, seeing them in envy and admiration, and she wanted to cry.
She felt ideas pouring through her head, little ones and big ones alike, little bits and pieces of what someone like her might end up looking like, how they might change with this little thing or that little thing, and wondered how she had been so stupid as to miss those possibilities.
All that and more came through the glance between them until the Muse finally looked away.
“I think I do,” the Muse said.
“What was that?”
“One power of ours is to inspire others. I…let you see what you inspire in me when I look at you.”
“All of that?”
“Well…that’s a portion of it, anyway. It’s not like I can show you everything that quickly.”
“…I suppose you are a Muse…and have more ideas than you can count.”
“Not quite, dear, but near enough.”
That was embarrassing, particularly considering the other little ideas that had come through. The idea of her scales spreading, for example, and covering her sex like a bejeweled flower and displaying it as such. Or the idea of putting her soles on display, a perfect scaled canvas for further accessorizing and artistry. Or draping her in little scales, keeping her human and leaving her like a walking gem.
One that didn’t need clothes, according to another idea.
She squirmed in place, rubbing her feet together in blushing understanding of some of the Muse’s thoughts. It was weird, strange, yet powerful to be looked at like that. Nobody had ever seen her, little, chubby Caelia, as someone that desirable. Yet, not only did the Muse have these ideas of what she could be like, but she was inspired by her base form, by what she already was, not merely by what she could become.
But the Muse did.
Shuffling her feet together, she couldn’t help but remember how she’d felt when they’d first been changed. Human to dragon, fleshed to scaled, and not that important to both beautiful and sensitive.
Very, very sensitive.
Her cheeks burned more from that than from the confession now. While her feet weren’t quite at the level of masturbatory pleasure, they were in the area of, and they were feeding her more pleasure and sensation than she entirely expected. She shuffled them together, her toes brushing the underside of her other foot, and her claws curling every so often at the feeling.
“You love me,” Caelia said. “And…I…”
Did she love the other woman back, or was that something that would only come through when she was being admired? She looked at the Muse again, staring at her dark skin. Yes, she was definitely interested physically, but –
Oh, the things that would go wrong with this. They were supposed to be together for a short time, and then the Muse would be banished back to the outer realms from whence she came. A relationship, any sort of relationship, was a bad idea. And more to the point, it would change her even further than she already had been.
Yet…
She remembered how it had felt when they were actually in-sync with each other, how it had felt to be on that stage with the bards, how it felt to get off when they were all staring at her. She remembered how it felt when the Muse had stood up for her against the demon in the sorority, and how it felt when they worked together to punch the succubus off into the wall and then wrung their hands out at the same time.
They were…well, not a couple, but they got along. And they got along well.
“Dear, are you alright?”
She realized that she’d been tightening up, and pulled her legs apart a bit, not letting her feet touch each other or otherwise cause problems. She took a deep breath, let it out, and nodded her head.
“I…I think so.”
“Are you going to be able to, you know, talk?”
“Uh-huh. In a minute.”
It was decision time. She needed to make it now, or she’d always be questioning herself about it from then on. If she didn’t…
No, she had her answer.
“I think…I think I’m willing to try.”
“Try what, dear?”
“Being…with you.”
The Muse blinked, her eyes slowly widening as the implications hit her, too. Caelia blushed, rubbing the back of her head.
“I just…I don’t know what I feel, but I know that I’m not unattracted to you. It’s not like you’re ugly like me, but…maybe I can be good enough to deserve someone as pretty as you if I work hard.”
“Dear, dear…”
Caelia tried not to stare as the near-naked muse joined her on the bed, anklets clicking and clanking and making it hard not to look down at the other woman’s feet. The Muse reached over, hugging her with one arm.
“You don’t have to be pretty to deserve me. It helps that you already are, but you don’t need it.”
“I’m not pretty.”
“No, you’re beautiful.”
“Now you’re lying.”
“Ah, not to you.”
Gentle hands turned her so that she was facing the Outsider again. The Muse smiled, leaned in…
And they kissed.
It was such a soft, gentle moment that she almost didn’t realize that it happened, but as the tingles of pleasure ran down her spine, as her eyes rolled back, as she felt the sheer shock of being touched that way, there was no denying it. She slowly lifted her hands to the Muse’s cheeks, and kissed her back.
