This is a set of lyrics inspired by the events which unfold in my story series "Aster", part 1-1. I like to imagine a Johnny-Cash-like guy singing this...oh well, I can dream, can't I?

The Last Glass

[Smooth, country-male voice speaks:

"Lemme tell ya' how it went."]

Ol' black cat's

Been at it again.

Gone messed up;

Done met his end.

Had a job.

Makin' a dime.

But, this'n here,

Done crossed the line.

There she was,

All tiny-sized,

Starin' at 'im

With big blue eyes.

Gun in hand,

He's lookin' at her,

Just couldn't pull--

Pull the trigger.

Chorus:

[And, the whiskey's down the drain!

Here's forgettin' pain!

The whiskey's down the drain!

He won't be feelin' a thang.]

Run, run, fast!

Best get on home!

Turn and run!

She's on the phone!

Here the horns!

Comin' for you!

Bright red lights,

You'll sing the blues!

Clink, clank, clunk!

The liquid pours,

The call's made,

Knocks at the door.

In the home,

A white cat strode.

He speakin' soft:

"Enforce the code."

Chorus:

[And, the whiskey's down the drain!

He's forgettin' pain!

The whiskey's down the drain!

He won't be feelin' a thang!]

Clink, clank, clunk!

The guns now sit,

On the table,

The two, betwixt.

Here, at seat,

The black cat cries.

Years and tears,

Shown' in his eyes.

Across from him

The tiger stands,

Angel sweet,

Black gloves on hands.

Silent calm,

Quiet murmur,

One more promise,

He pulls the trigger!

[Sudden percussive noise or chorus yells, "Bang!" in unison, followed by silence for a moment.]

[Smooth, country-male voice speaks: "Well..."]

Chorus:

[The whiskey's down the drain!

Here's for gettin' pain!

The whiskey's down the drain!

And, he didn't feel a thang.

("That's right")

And, he didn't feel a thang?

("I'm certain.")

No, he didn't feel a thang!]

-Chorus can be repeated as necessary.
