DHW part 10-3 - just a harmless rub
Hey everyone it's me again after another looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong absence.
However these few months away gave me enough time to write quite a lot, although I ran in quite a lot of issues.
Simply put my holidays didn't go quite as well as I planed (met an asshole who ruined them) then came back home just to realize my PC died AGAIN! (probably the hard drive again) so i was forced tu use my laptop but since i've got a new one it's better than nothing. Then had to look for a flat for september but it's almost done. All in all I was quite busy.
But I'm finally able to share my latest writing (or a part of them at least) yes because this part was supposed to cover more events but I realized it was getting way too long. Right now it's cut in three parts that I'll try to post ASAP. (part 10-4 is currently in editing)
If you're looking for yiff sorry to disappoint but this chapter is rather clean, more story focused.
However like always i encourage you to

DHW
Part 10-3
Just a harmless rub
Kyo
I took a deep breath, relieved as we emerged from the depth of the prison, a place I swore myself to not come back to ever again.
Everything looked so bright, the sun blazing outside, basking the lands in its reassuring warmth and light.
Everything felt too bright after that time spent into the blackness, blindingly illuminated; so much in fact that I had to step back in the shadow and wait for my eyes to accustom to the outside worlds. Half an hour in that suffocating place and I realized how much I missed the sun's light.
I realized we were all in a similar state, relieved to have regained the surface. To be honest I hadn't completely recovered, still euphoric after seeing my brother again. I thought I had lost him forever, that when he had been taken away it was for good but now he was there, next to me; as happy as I was to see him again. Still; I couldn't get out of my mind the fact that I went close to kill him. I had almost murdered my own brother. If I had done it I wouldn't have forgiven myself.
But it was no importance right now; I knew he was there; I could feel him next to me, his scales brushing against mine. Along the way up I would sometime extend a wing just to feel him, wrap him in my membrane and pull him closer for a short hug, earning jealous glares from his two demon mates. To be honest I envied him; he seemed so enamored with them; I spotted them looking at each other with loving looks, share discreet kisses and nuzzles. I could see the love between them was strong and knowing that the two demons were actually brother was even more exciting. He was so lucky; to have them both for himself. And I knew for certain that not only the three of them were deeply in love but also that the two brothers were into each other. The thought of incestuous relationship between Tormis and Skel even though I didn't know how to differentiate them was enough to stir my member to life, arousal peaking in my thoughts as my slit moistened, covering my nether region in a thin glossy film.
But it wasn't time to lust over someone. I vigorously shook my head, clearing my mind of all naughtiness as we stepped out into the open. Immediately the same guards as before blocked our way, forming a tight circle around Alckor and his mates, spears and riffles aimed at their head. Alckor let out a feeble whine, nudging closer to me as I covered him behind a wing while his mates stood up, putting themselves between him and the guards; adopting a defensive stance, fangs bared, claws racking the stone, dark spit drooling from their maws, eyes blazing with defiance; their scales glinting with dark energy ready to be unleashed. The ultimate warning that if any of the guards attempted something against Alckor they would fight back with ruthless abandon. I was in the same attitude, growling, fangs bared, tiny blue flames slipping out of my lips. I was honestly surprised to see Tarken react in a similar fashion, glaring at the men defiantly as he joined me in menacing growls and barks. The tension rose, the silence deepened, claws impatiently scraping at stone, energy blowing in our veins, demanding to be released, fingers caressing triggers, other hands firmly gripping on a spear or a sword; senses sharp, waiting, wondering who would attack first.
A loud bang rips the silence preceding a battle; it sounded like the rumble of thunder announcing the storm but in much closer, like the thunder had come from right above me but way too close to my ear to be a storm. I winced, grimacing in pain, a high pitched hiss invading my deafened ears, the acrid smell of gunpowder waffling at my nostrils. I looked up, Allen had a gun in hand; whitish smoke slithering out of the hot barrel as the cartridge fell to the ground. "Don't use that thing next to my ear…" I whined amazed by the noise such tiny gun could produce. "It bites and it barks as well" I thought to myself. "Keep quiet Kyo." he growled. I found myself obeying, remaining perfectly silent; watching expectantly. Fingers snapped in the tense silence and the next instant all the soldiers had stepped forward, narrowing their circle around us, some of their spear reaching at the young demon's throat, forcing them to back away near me.
Another gunfire echoed, much louder this time, a sound I recognized in a thousand with ease. It was Kyle's shotgun. "Thank you." said Allen gratefully. "You’re lucky I still had that one from earlier." grunted Kyle. "Anyway! Now that I have your attention…" he cleared his throat "could everyone calm down, lower their weapons, stop behave like dumb animals and settle down for some time!" he shouted.
But while he was talking, while everyone's attention was focused on him a soldier cockier than the others sneaked closer, trying to reach for Alckor with his glowing spear. When I saw him he was already on the verge of touching him with a probably charged weapon. Alckor was much faster than me to react, turning his gaze toward the man and without hesitation splashing his face with a jet of green. Instantly the man backed away, dropping his weapon as he screamed in panic, his armor steaming, deforming, melting as green droplets fell from his helmet to his shoulder plates, dripping along his chest plate, engulfing him in thick green smoke as his armor started dissolving around him. He ran away, throwing his helmet down, removing his corroding armor with trembling hands. Under me I could hear Alckor giggle, a wide sadistic grin spread over his face, a devilish glow glinting in his purple eyes as long strands of saliva and acid drooled from the corner of his maw. "Alckor…" I sighed. "What!? He tried to attack me I only defended myself." "That's not the way to do it." I huffed, slapping his face with a wing "What should I do then? Let him attack me?" "No of course not but *sigh* try not to melt people's face next time; we are on the same side." "It's still to be seen." harshly replied Alckor, glaring at all the weapons pointed on him "but don't worry I didn't gave him a full taste of my power; it was a sample so he shouldn't suffer any damages… if he gets out of his armor in time that is." he sniggered, his tongue dashing over his lips in a wicked amusement, collecting the few drops of acid staining his scales. I tensed; it was obvious that my brother throughout the years had changed; drastically changed; he wasn't the innocent, playful, cute being I remembered. "What has happened to you Alckor?" I asked myself, our reunion raising more questions than it answered.
Our eyes met, his smile vanished as his eyes watered with tears. The disappointment, the doubt on my face must have been obvious to him as he whispered "I'm sorry Kyo." For an instant, a split second his face changed as he recovered that adorable face from before. "It's alright…" I whispered, hugging him close, wiping away his tears. Meanwhile the guard has stripped down, removed hand thrown away his armor in the grass; the green acid bending, twisting devouring the metal like it was nothing, digging through steel as if it had been mere thin paper. I trembled, watching in horror as tough steel melted away, disappearing in a growing green puddle of bubbling, ravenous, steaming and smoking, emanating sulfur acid. A shiver ran down my spine; in a matter of seconds it had destroyed, shattered thick armored plates of the highest quality steel and now even the grass and dirt were enduring the same treatment. I shivered; amazed by how quickly it took care of metal with such terrifying ease, what else could it destroy? What were the limits of its power? "Kyo…" called Alckor "don't be afraid I won't use it on you. But know this… when you squashed me down earlier you were lucky to not spill my blood because otherwise you would have gotten yourself injured… pretty badly." he whispered. What did you say?" "My blood is made of the same acid." he revealed. I took a step back, removing my wing from over him. "You don't have to worry Kyo… I won't use it on you; I promise, I'm not a murderer!"
I pinched my lips, not sure I could trust his words. "Kyo… I swear I never drew a single droplet of blood:" he whined, seeing my suspicion. "He says the truth." spoke one of the two demons "I have never seen him fight."
I took some time to think, pondering, hesitating if I should have faith in their words. I hated myself for doubting my own brother but I knew there were many dark zones left, many unanswered questions, many things to clarify.
"I'm sorry… I'm still a bit on edge with all that recently happened."
Alckor nodded, acknowledging my tension as he padded closer, finding shelter under my belly, nuzzling me from below. I felt my tension subside as I let out a low purr.
All along Allen had been speaking with the guards. I perk an ear, trying to catch on to their apparently animated talk.
"So you mean this one is a dragon?" asked the shocked commander. "Indeed; it appears we have misunderstood his intentions." replied Owen. "And the two others?" grumbled the guard, throwing a quick look at his men who had Alckor''s mates at the mercy of their blades. "These two are demons there is no doubt about it" grumbled Kyle. "But they've sided with humans." quickly added Allen. "A demon that changed side… never heard of such thing." grunted the chief, scratching his head pensively "For that… dragon we can let him go… but the two others we can't guarantees us it is not another trick to stab us in the back; so insure the safety of the kingdom they must be eliminated." he stated in a tone that left no room for negotiation; a crude and cold death sentence. "They won't attack you!" exclaimed Alckor. "What makes you so confident?" "We are bounded together; we are mates" the chief's face twisted with disgust "so they won't do anything against humans. Am I right guys?"
The two vigorously nodded. "I'll take full responsibility for their actions if that's what it takes." I added, pairs of astonished eyes darting onto me. "Are you certain of your choice dragon? If they are accused of anything you will be punished as severely as them.”
I looked at Tarken; he nodded slightly. I turned my attention to Allen, sitting on my back, leaning against a thorn, arms crossed. "What do you think?" I enquired. "Your call Kyo." We shared an intense look.
"I 'm certain; they are from now on under my protection and responsibility." "As you wish." grumbled the guard, weaving at his soldiers to let the two devilish creatures go. "Thanks Kyo…" whispered Alckor, affectionately nuzzling my chest.
"Excuse me gentlemen the emperor must be getting impatient; I suggest we should hurry." called the messenger, caressing his gryphon's black feathers. "We are coming." replied Allen.
"Kyo!" called Alckor from underneath me "is my presence… necessary there?" "Why that question?" "Well… I don't think I'll be of any use there… and I'd… honestly prefer to… spend some time with my mates." He explained, lightly blushing, exchanging meaningful glances with the two others; twitching uncomfortably on his paws, his hindquarter slowly rocking as a heady musk waffled at my nostrils. I smiled, even a fool would have understood what he meant by spending some time with them. I knew that between the devilish trio information, thoughts and ideas were flowing like rivers in their connected brains; that stream now probably induced with lustful ideas that I'm sure were turning the three of them on; their subtly intertwined musk rising in the air. I lowered my snout to Alckor's lever, his young musky scent becoming more noticeable, more arousing; that adolescent musk arousing my senses more as I got closer. "You want to mate am I correct?" I whispered. "Yes…" he moaned, begging me to let him have his fun. I threw a quick look at his mates; the two demons were panting, eyes glazed with desire, stance slightly widened , exposing the tip of their cocks dropping from their slit, black spires glistening with natural lube, heavy globes of pre dripping on the ground between their paws. The three were wearing pleading expressions, horny, needy creatures driven by their urges.
My smile grew wider, a low chuckle escaping my throat. "I'm afraid you'll have to wait Alckor." "But… Kyo…" he whined, staring at me pleadingly. "Sorry Alckor but I want you with me." "But… what is the point?" "I think you could be useful." "How?" "I don't know… we shall see. Plus I'd like to enjoy some more time with you."
The disappointment on their face was heartbreaking but I didn't let it soften me. "Come on Alckor we've got to go." I said a bit harshly, turning around and extending my wings, ready to take flight. "Alright I'm coming." he sighed regretfully, fluttering his wings a few times without conviction. "And us… what are we supposed to do?" enquired one of the two demons "it's not like we can… fly." he added, showing his lack of wing. "We don't want to slow you down." added the other. I nodded thoughtfully. "Why don't we… stay here and wait for your return?" "Bright idea." I approved. Alckor was about to protest but his mates silenced him with an affectionate nuzzle, both kissing him from either side "we won't be far; we will be waiting for you just don't take too long." they purred in his ears. He shuddered, nuzzling them back with the same affection.
"Keep an eye on them„," I ordered to the guards. It was like they had been waiting all along for that simple order as, in a split second they had formed a tight circle around them. "Isn't that a bit exaggerated?" questioned one. "Necessary precaution." I grunted.
Alckor was boiling, enraged, teeth gritted; claws sank into the dirt, lips trembling in anger, energy rumbling inside him. "Come on Alckor we've got to go." I let out, noticing the messenger on his saddle, holding the reins of his flying beast; waiting for us to take off. "I'm coming." growled Alckor, frustrated, trying to contain his anger. "See you later!" shouted one of the two demons as they walked away, followed by four guards.
"We are ready." I told the messenger. "Wonderful; now if you could follow me please." he answered, firmly gripping the reins as his gryphon propelled himself into the sky in one powerful flap of his feathered wings.
We soared into the sky right behind him; me in first; Alckor right next to me and Tarken following behind. On my back I felt Allen gripping tightly onto my back as the wind billowed over us. "Don't mess up this time Kyo." "I won’t” I mentally replied.
We flew west, toward the shimmering towers, toward the white walls, toward the majestic city, toward the place where all decisions were taken; where all had started.
I didn't know why the emperor seemed in such a hurry; but if what his messenger had said was right then that meeting would decide of the outcome of the war. I tensed… the war; I had almost forgotten it; here everything looked so peaceful that this bloody conflict seemed to be more than a rumor, a tale, a legend; it seemed so surreal to imagine dragons fighting against humans, fighting against themselves when we could live at peace with human; in perfect harmony, bonded beyond belief, unites… as one.
A cold chill ran down my spine; I knew once I had thought differently; that I once saw humans as pathetic creatures meant to worship us; to serve us; and the dragons that sided with them I considered to be weakling, weak-minded whelps living under the dominance of their minuscule masters.
But now… it felt silly to think that way; now that I had seen, now that I felt, now that I closed that gap and bonded myself to a human, to Allen I felt how stupid, how blind I was before to the obvious truth; humans and dragons were meant to be together! Maybe not meant to but… definitely could be together and that bod was for the best. I couldn't deny that my life had greatly changed the instant I sealed this silent pact; that I bonded for life with Allen. He had changed me, my life and I owed him that.
Slowly my thoughts wandered, drifting away as my eyes scouted the lands below, watching the caravans following the narrow paths; the farmers in the fields and every one of them waved at us when we flew by.
My eyes turned away, finding Alckor. He was next to me, on the left side, flying straight forward, face closed, cold, eyes staring at the city ahead; his face frozen on an angry snarl. I observed him once again, getting a better view at him in the light, his black scales glinting slightly in the sunlight, the purple portions of his scales adding a beautiful hue. I stopped on his claws, deadly blades waiting to tear something apart. I sensed the strength hidden beneath his scales, the sheer power in his muscles, the dark energy flowing in his veins, waiting for its hour to be unleashed.
"What happened to you Alckor?" I wondered.
………
Allen
The wind billowing over my face, whistling in my ears; the sight of the world from another angle, from above, of the tall mountains piercing the clouds, their peeks wearing their white snowy hats.
It felt good to fly, fly with him, feel the warmth of his scales under me, feel his powerful muscles shift as he played of gravity, his wings cutting through the wind, propelling him higher, faster as we soared in the clear blue sky, sailing on invisible currents.
However I knew something for certain: Kyo wasn't focused on his flight and every so often we would slow down a bit, or deviate slightly from our course. All the time he would correct his trajectory in an almost imperceptible shift of his wings or would flap them harder to keep up with the rest of the group. The source of his disturbance; his eyes were glued to his brother flying next to us.
Kyo's mind was busy, crowded by too many questions, interrogations wonders and fears for one being, swirling, swarming in his brain. There was everything, wonders about the approaching meeting, fears about what would come out of it and other, more personal things.
There were things about his darker side, about the evil power lurking inside him, waiting for a weakness to break into his mind and wreak havoc again; about how Alckor managed to neutralize it, how he drained it and used it for his own purpose. I sensed gratitude, respect but also fear and suspicion. I had to admit it was strange and rather unexpected to see his younger brother absorb such great amount of raw energy without breaking a sweat, without suffering any side-effect and even being able to use it for power.
There also were some interrogations about Tarken, about if he was alright after what had happened earlier but it wasn't nearly as preoccupying as the rest.
I saw his eyes go over his brother, observing him from every angle, stopping on each and every detail of his anatomy as if everything disturbed him.
In the storm of questions taking place in his brain one question came back more often, almost every time. At the end of each loop of questioning he would fall back t o that simple question "What happened to you Alckor?"
I sighed deeply, I understood it was bothering him, that his brother didn't look like what he would have expected but it was really getting on my nerves.
"Kyo… stop." I huffed, barely catching his attention. He said nothing, too obsessed to notice me. "Kyo!" I roared; our link shaking as my voice bloomed in his head, washing away the questions. Just to make sure I grabbed a thorn and yanked it back. He squealed loudly, fluttering his wings in mild surprise and pain. "What did you do that for?" he whined, steadying his flight. I let go of his ivory spine, rubbing around the painful area. "To wake you up!" I grunted. "But I'm not sleeping!" he protested. All the eyes were pointed at us, wondering what was happening; even Alckor was watching.
"I know but I'd rather avoid crashing into a mountain again." I chuckled. "What!? But… we… we're far too high for that!" "I'd rather be a bit preventive." "You already slammed into a mountain Kyo?" enquired Alckor, a mocking smile curling his lips. "Oh he did many stupid things?" I sniggered as Kyo looked away, cheeks reddening in embarrassment. "Can't wait to hear them all." "There are too many to count them all" mumbled Kyo.
"Anyway… why did you do that it hurts!" he whined mentally, sending me a sample of his suffering, my back suddenly aching as if someone had tried to rip my spine apart. "Sorry but I needed to pull you out of it." "Why?" "Kyo… don't you think you are overthinking it?" "Over… thinking?" he mumbled, repeating the word several times "What do you mean?" "Kyo; its normal you don't recognize him, you haven't seen each other in so long."
"No… it's not that Allen… it's… more complicated than that; I know that… I haven't seen him in years… but I'm still troubled; I'm not sure it's even him. He doesn't look like the dragon I remember but at the same time my guts keep telling me it’s him." as he spoke he shared a memory with him, a picture of a small white dragon staring at him with light blue eyes. He was smiling; he looked happy, playful, his long tail wagging widely behind him, his small wings flapping in utter impatience. The background behind was blurry, mere patches of colors blended together as if all that remained of that damaged memory was Alckor.
It was right there was nothing resembling between the picture he showed me and the dragon flying right next to me. His pearlescent white scales had become inky black, his claws had lengthened, sharpened, long lines of spikes covering his back from the base of his skull to the tip of his tail where a blade-like thing had formed, two white, jagged horns crowned his skull, long and deadly fangs stuffing his maw, some protruding slightly past his upper lips. His scales looked tough and could probably withstand a few attacks and I knew that beneath that shall hid another defensive barrier, his own blood, a strong acid that could dissolve everything; an acid he could spit on enemies at will. I didn't know the limits of his power but there was one thing I was certain; he had the ability to drain others of their energy and exploit it for himself and that was scaring me but in the meantime I knew it could prove to be very useful in situations like the one we had earlier where his power proved very handy to calm Kyo down.
Despite myself I felt a shiver run down my spine; he was a fierce beast that was sure, a relentless predator that would restlessly hunt his prey down and mercilessly harvest what he sought from it.
However under that terrifying look there was a dragon, not a cruel demon longing for blood and destruction, only a dragon with a heart, the heart of someone that had found what he was looking for, warmed with joy. But at the same time he seemed pretty cold for someone that just met with his brother after years of separation. Moreover his body wore the marks, the scars of someone that had been through much more than I could imagine, adding to that cold and distant look.
"I'll give you that he doesn't resemble the dragon you showed me but… you know it's him right?" "Of course I do. It’s just… it's puzzling me… even his behavior has changed." "Kyo last time you saw him he was a child! Who knows what happened to him after he was taken away from you." "You… you're right but… I recall him being as white as snow and as pure as light itself so… how did he end up… this way? How did he got himself with these demons." he hissed, spitting his disregard on the image of Alcokr's mates. "Don't be like this they're not that bad." "How can you say that of demons after all they've done to us?" "You were the first one to forgive them." "True" he snorted "you've got a point." "You know, you should talk to him directly, ask him to tell you his story. I'm sure he'd gladly do it„," "Maybe…" "Besides you have quite a few years to catch on." "You're right." he admitted "thanks Allen; I don't know what I'd do without you." "Probably run straight into trouble:" I chuckled." "Hush you were with me most of the time! Beside… I don't think blowing up things right next to me was the smartest ideas." "It was that or we were done." I grumbled. "I know… I'm only kidding." "More seriously Kyo how long has it been since the last time you saw him." "Tricky question." he mumbled, fumbling in his own memories. "Let's see… he was four… and I was six so it’s been… it's been… about…. Allen…" he called, his head dropping as a crimson red blush covered his cheeks. "Yes Kyo" "You're gonna laugh." "Why would I?" "I don't know how old I am." he let out in a barely audible voice, so low that even though he spoke through the link it felt like he was shushing.
"Are you kidding me!?" I gasped, astonished by the revelation. "What's going on Allen?" enquired Kyle.
I only realized I had shouted out loud. "I just learned Kyo doesn't know his own age." "I know it!" chirped Tarken, giggling slyly "but I'll let you search for a bit."
"Kyo… you really don't remember?" asked Alckor, surprised as well. "I don't… after three years in jail… I actually forgot, since I had no occasion to celebrate it." "Actually…now that you say it I haven't kept count either." admitted Alckor, red blush spreading over his scales as a curious glint shined into his eyes. What he had just learned had obviously caught his attention but he held his curiosity back. "It's gonna be easy, you're two years younger than me and you were four last time I saw you so it's gonna be fairly easy… if only I knew the date." "You can't be serious…" I sighed, shaking my head in disbelief. "If I'm correct we are entering autumn so I'd say we are in September or October maybe." mumbled Tarken "but I don't have the precise date. Hey sir do you know what's the date of today?" "Sure thing it's the September twenty-first, the equinox was last night so we're now officially in autumn."
I sensed shock, surprise in Kyo's brain. Everything seemingly crumbling in utter shock under an apparently shocking reveal.
He shook violently, every scales trembling, his wings helplessly fluttering, as if they didn't manage to catch the wind anymore. Hit head dropped down, his paws hanging limply, even his wings seemed to flap with less might.
"Already…" mumbled Tarken, looking at us, no at Kyo with sorry eyes "I didn't think time had gone by so quickly."
"So if we are in September… mine should be in… of fuck…" gasped Alckor, pulling back to an almost complete stop.
"Can someone tell me what's wrong?" I asked, unsure. "I think it would be more appropriate if you asked that directly to Kyo." answered Tarken, under the approving nods from Alckor.
"Kyo…" I whispered. "Yesterday…" he whimpered, his voice trembling as if he was on the brink on tears. "I don't get it… what was yesterday?" "My birthday…" he sobbed, heavy tears rolling down his cheeks. "Oh… er… well… happy birthday… I suppose." I mumbled, embarrassed, patting his scales as comfortingly as I could. "Happy hatch day" purred Tarken, affectionately nuzzling Kyo's face, careful to not collide with us in midflight.
"Happy hatch day Kyo… for all those I've missed." added Alckor, frantically hugging his brother. "Same for you Alckor" he replied, giving his younger bro's face a long lick.
Kyo seemed to feel a bit better as he affectionately nuzzled his brother. "So… how old are you now Kyo?" I asked, still rubbing near the base of his neck, feeling him squirm and coo under my touch. "Nineteen if I'm correct." "Exactly" approved Tarken. "Damn we're almost the same age!" I shouted. "Really!?" "Yes, I'm eighteen and before you ask my birthday was way before we met Kyo."
As we spoke we flew over the white walls, a few guards looking up in our wake. Before us stood the emperor's palace, as shiny and shimmering as before, basked in the afternoon sun, sending golden reflections raining down on the city.
"Here we go guys!" I let out, apprehending what would come. "Any idea why he wants to see us so urgently?" I asked through our link. "No idea but it must be important." Replied Kyle using the same method. "I think it is to announce his battle plaan." thoughtfully stated Tarken. "That's what I fear as well" sighed Kyo "In most scenarios I see we end up battling against our kind." "It's for the best Kyo." exclaimed Tarken. "I know but… I don't want to amend up tangled in a pointless bloodbath." "I think they have been weakened enough for that battle to go smoothly." stated Tarken. "You think?" I interrogated, surprised. "Yes; I've heard some rumors saying that the dragon realm hasn't fully recovered from the chaos we caused; it is wounded and weakened, and I think the emperor wants to deliver the finishing blow and end this war for good." "You must be right Tarken… I just wish there was another way." whispered Kyo in sorrow. "Me too Kyo; me too." I shushed, rubbing his back.
We landed smoothly for once, one after the other on the balcony. "The emperor is waiting for you in the meeting room." shouted the messenger as he flew away, his gryphon diving toward the city down balow.
"Let's not make him wait then" I mumbled, jumping from Kyo's back, walking between him and Alckor as we entered the immense palace.
………
Ace:
"Come on Skye, let's go." I call, attracting the small blue dragon's attention. His snout peaked from over a shelf, his curious magnificent blue eyes gazing down at me with a happy glint. "Come on buddy let's go!" I called again, insistently pointing at my shoulder. He let out a happy thrill as he jumped from his perch, his small wings extended as he glided to me. I extended an arm, holding an unstable pile of dishes with the other. Skye softly landed, his claws latching onto my shoulder, his wings proudly flapping a few times before he folded them with a satisfied chirp. I gave his snout a gentle rub, walking out of the room with a heavy plate covered of cups and biscuits. Skye watched them with interest, a hungry look painted on his face. "Nope they're not for you." I let out, poking his snout with a finger. He let out a cute whine, begging me with that so adorable pleading look of his. But I know how to resist. "Don't look at me like this it won't work." I sighed, sorry to deny something to that cute face. He whimpered, looking disappointed, drooling over the tasty snacks with a defeated expression. "Skye I said no." I growled. A feeble huff escaped his mouth "don't complain you just ate!" I shouted, exasperated.
It had been a few weeks since Skye had hatched and somehow sneaked into my room. His mark hadn't left me ever since, along with that small, enquiring, adorable, loving, caring, protecting dragonet.
Skye would never leave my side, staying so close in fact that sometime he would even become annoying, always perched on top of my shoulder, or lying on my legs when I was sitting, or resting next to me when I was in bed. When I went away without him I heard him whine, cry, call for me in his high pitched squeaky manner while in my head he would try to nudge himself against me, poke at my very soul with his own, tug on our bond to get my attention until my head throbbed with pain, my eyes blurred an I felt like fainting. Even while taking a shower I had to leave my bathroom door open so he knew I wasn't far; which resulted in him joining me in the tub a few times, allowing me to discover that he loved water but as much as he loved being rubbed, groomed, and cleaned by my hands. But overall I didn't mind the slightest; I was even grateful and proud to have him; honored to have been offered his gift. He had changed so many things in my life. Everything had been so disrupted since he arrived by almost magic and nestled himself close to me for a rest.
But deep inside I thought, I hoped, I wished there was something more than luck and hazard behind; that he had chosen me; that fate, destiny or whatever it was had placed us on the same path.
He had changed my life from its basement; offered me vision; I wasn't the helpless blind servant no one wanted of. No one… well… except the prince. I was changed from head to toe… well… kinda; I was still the same except for those two radiant blue dragon eyes nestled where my once milky white eyes lied; two dead orbs filling empty holes. To be completely honest I wasn't exactly used to the sight; by that I meant I wasn't used to see them on my face and would sometime scare myself when I looked at my reflection in the mirror. On top of that I wasn't used to use them as well; I found myself doing like before, relying on my other senses; senses that were as sharp as before if not sharper and only use my new eyes to discover the world. That fact was still puzzling me: I expected my senses to become more… normal if it could be called so, that I would loose the perceptions I had but instead they were all preserved. Was it Skye's doing? I didn't know but my guts were telling me yes.
However it wasn't to everyone's taste; I had noticed weird looks in my wake in the castle's corridors from other servants, guards and knights alike darting angry or envying gazes on me, earning my disregard or only my disinterest depending on my mood; Skye on his side would growl, snarl at them in defiance; or if he was really pissed off the person daring enough to glare at me would be rewarded by one of these radiant blue fireballs of his.
I knew most of them were jealous, envying my new status; I was… or would soon be a knight, dragon rider… in a few years maybe. But at that instant, in my current situation I was still a servant obeying to the king and my mighty dragon a temperamental whelp constantly demanding attention and food.
That condition was even becoming problematic; sometime, when stranger arrived at the palace for whatever reason brought them here they would be puzzled by the sight of the dragon perched on my shoulder, scared by my eyes. Some would avoid me; try to pretend I didn’t exist. One even pulled out his sword when I entered in the fancy lounge where he was waiting, ordering me in his weird language to go away, his face pale with fear, his expression twisted by disgust.
Some however saw me just as I was, made abstraction of that awkward detail; the dragon riders saluted me like they would do to a fellow gifted comrade chosen by the great masters of the skies; dragons recognized that bond and talked to me with respect, some even reaching out to my mind, giving me a short but intense mind nuzzle; but they were so few compared to the masses scared or envying. I had heard of strange rumors spreading throughout the palace accusing me of having somehow subdued the dragon by summoning some kind of dark magic to force him to create the bond now uniting us for life; that my new eyes were part of the use of that so called forbidden magic. I didn't give these pesky words much weight; they were just born from other's jealousy. Beside I had never done magic, never saw some, never read about it; I just knew it existed but I never used it and now… as a dragon rider I knew I would have to learn how to master that tricky art. Yet I couldn’t deny that all this suspicion, all these unfounded rumors, all these lies hurt more than blades stabbing me in the heart.
Even the outside world was just as unwelcoming; I had left the palace only twice since Skye had bonded with me, once on my own to take a bowl of fresh air and offer Skye a visit of his new home; the other time to deliver a message to someone. Both times I sensed before I saw the surprise, the wonders, the curiosity, the fear, the fright the horror I inspired, on my wake. Then, as the rumors spread past the palace's walls the terror, the jealousy, the envy, and the suspicion became fully fledged hatred, contempt and rage, whispered words turning into roared accusations. More than ever I felt alone and excluded; the world even more hostile to me now.
I could recall an awkward scene happening the second time I left the safety of the palace as, on my way back home I decided to take a little detour by a market to buy myself something to eat. Skye was over me, flying just above the stalls, watching me from above. At first the crowd moved away around me, desiring to keep their distances with me, forming a rather large alley for me. I didn't care much until I arrived to the place I was looking for: a grocery merchant. When I wanted to buy him a juicy looking red apple the dude categorically refused, urging me to go away "you're making all my clients flea!" he yelled at me, his face as red as his merchandises "go away before I call the guards… you fucking wizard weirdo" he spat. I persisted, not listening to his vigorous protests. Around us the crowd had gathered, forming a tight circle around us, most of them intrigued by the scene, curious to see how it would turn out; probably hoping I would get my ass kicked by the man… or that I would… I don't know burn his merchandises to ashes. The solution had come when Skye, tired of flying dove from the azure sky with a squeak, earning all the attention as he landed on my shoulder, fluttering his wings happily as he took back his rightful place. The merchant's face went from crimson red to pale white, his eyes widening when he discovered the baby dragon observing his products with obvious interest. "The apple isn't for me… it's for him." I had sniggered, pointing at the drooling dragon.
Behind us the crowd had gone quiet, low whispers circulating among them as they watched the scene unfold from afar. The guy hadn't protested and gave me two apples to make up for it but he was still reluctant to comply.
"At this rate you're gonna have the first vegetarian dragon" joked Ulrick when he saw me come back this precise day, Sky still devouring the tasty fruit, his small teeth tearing through it with ease, a mix of juices and spit staining my clothes.
Ulrick… the prince…; at the mention of that name I felt a shiver run down my spine. If there was one thing I hadn't seen coming aside from ending with that cute little dragon nibbling at my ear "argh… Skye stop that…" I yelped, pushing his snout away. Where was I already? Oh yes the prince. I didn't expect what had happened that fateful day; I still remembered the contact of his lips against mine; the warmth that invaded me, the softness of his skin, the taste of his mouth. It felt all so delightful, so good, so unexpected. My body felt all warm and tingly hours after as I clung onto that memory.
"Damn it Skye quit it!” I grumbled, staggering when the dragon jumped on my head, getting entangle in my hairs, pulling hard with his claws "I'm not a horse!" I whined dropping the plate I was carrying on a table and trying to catch that pesky, playful scale ball. "Are you gonna stop squirming?!" I growled attempting to get a hold of him; his claws making knots of my hairs as he mingled himself harder while trying to evade my grasp. "Having troubles over there?" enquired a voice. I froze, tenting as, on top of my head Skye let out a surprised warble, instantly stopping his play.
Slowly, extremely slowly I turned around, trembling from head to toes, heat already rushing to my face. A shiver shook my being, my jaws dropping while my hands lost their grip on the slick warm scales, falling limply along my sides, my composure seemingly drained away as I discovered him, standing tall in the corridor, dressed in clothes that, like always suited him perfectly, giving his already nice looking body something more attracting if he wasn't handsome enough. I looked down; an old reflex; still unsure of how I should have been reacting in his presence, so used to only be an underling, to treat him with the respect due to people of his rank; I wasn't yet used to consider myself more than what I was once… maybe not equal to him… but somewhere higher than before. But looking down like this allowed me to examine him closely. His clothes, just like always were made for him and suited him like a glove; but all these fabrics were only covering his true beauty. I shivered, surprising myself to think like that. He was however wearing clothes quite unusual for a prince: black pants held by an equally black belt with a golden buckle to which was tied his sword, the sharp blade covered in its marvelously designed sheath. A long jacket hid the sword's richly decorated handle but it was obvious to my sharp eyes it wasn't the only weapon he was carrying; I noticed a strange bulge in one of his pockets right before my nose caught the stench of black powder. A gun. I tensed. That's when my eyes noticed something off, he seemed… larger than usual, as if he had taken some weight during the night. The evidence struck me right in the face; he was wearing his armor underneath his clothes. I quickly realized that even his clothes were nothing near normal… for a prince; although they were high quality clothes they remained somehow basic, meant for it's wearer to blend in a crowd. "Is there something bugging you Ace?" he enquired, worry peaking in his voice.
My heart missed a beat, my name sounding so different in that mouth. "No… nothing…" I stammered, my cheeks warming up with embarrassment. "How do you find me?" he enquired. I blushed, not knowing what to answer to that "Eh… well… you… you look absolutely… beautiful… like always Sir… I mean my Prince… I…… oh god save me!" I gasped, at a loss for words. "Ace… you're so cute when you're nervous" he laughed a warm smile illuminating his face as he closed the gap between us, his so soft hand brushing against my face, my skin tingling under the caress. "But don't bother with the protocol Ace." "I know… but…" I whispered, a crimson blush covering my cheeks, growing in time with his amused smirk. "Just call me Ulrick…" he whispered in my ears, checking over my shoulder making sure no one was watching us. "I know Ulrick but… but it still feels weird to be so… close to you." "Don't be so shy its fine, just relax you look so tense." "Sounds easy in your mouth…" I huffed "because it is; just take a deep breath and stop asking yourself a thousand questions. Actually you know what? Forget everything that was told to you?" "What?" "You heard me right; you don't have to call me prince or be so formal with me; we're more than mere strangers to each others aren't we?". I froze, recalling that very first kiss we shared. "Certainly but… it's not right… I mean… a prince and a servant… what the people would say?" "First, let these fools think what they want to. I chose you and I'm not about to back down now. And who talked about a servant? I don't see any servant around here; I can't see anyone I could order something to." but…" I gasped, wondering if he had gone insane. "It is true; I only see a dragon rider and his mount." he added, reaching out with a hand, presenting his open palm to Skye, letting tee curious snout poke at his skin, the flared nostrils taking a deep whiff of his scent. "A dragon rider… sure… it's gonna be hard to fly on his back though" I chuckled, teasing Skye's sensitive wing membrane, earning an annoyed huff accompanied by the snapping of jaws near my fingers, urging me to stop. "Well… soon to be dragon rider would be more appropriate." he let out, rubbish Skye's chin. "Imagine in a few years you'll be flying high in the sky, on the back of a mighty dragon, the wind whistling in your ears; the feeling of freedom… the world will look so small and distant below you." he added, coming closer, softly whispering in the hollow of my ear "You'll go further, faster than any human could dream, you'll be able to explore the world as you wish; you will be a force to be reckoned with; you'll be capable of battling on the ground and high in the skies, side by side with Skye."
A shiver ran down my spine; I could almost feel the air caressing my skin, see the unknown lands sprawling behind the horizon; feel the powerful creature under me, sense his beating wings as we would soar in the sky; sense the weight of a sword, the magic coursing through us, answering to my every demands as we would crush any foes that dared to stand before us. But quickly I came down from my dream, reality striking me with it's blade of impossibility. As incredible as it may have sounded I knew it would never be possible. Flying on Skye's back was definitely possible and I would love to leap in the infinite sky with him but fighting… it was definitely out of the picture; I had never fought before, not even with my own fists; I had never been in any kind of combat except the one my life had been since my birth. I never had a sword in hand, not even a dagger so fighting with it sounded impossible; silly at best. And magic… magic was a complicated art that still hadn't revealed all it's secrets to it's most skilled and wise users; it was a complex art that required years and years of practice to be able to cast a stable spell, and even more to just learn the foreign language allowing to use it at it's fullest.
Disappointment must have been obvious, covering my face like a mask because I immediately sensed Ulrick come closer, his hands grabbing mine, his eyes plunging deeply into mine, not disturbed the slightest by the fact he was staring in the eyes of a dragon. "Is there something wrong?" he enquired with his soft voice, caressing my palms with his fingers. "No… nothing…" I replied, breaking the deep stare, his gaze still clinging onto my fleeing one. "Ace…" he sighed; “I know something is bothering you; you are an opened book for me." he whispered, his hands traveling up, latching firmly around my shoulders. I looked down, avoiding eye contact with him. A worried chirp came from above me, a high pitched voice squeaking so close to my ear. The weight on top of my head shifted, moving to my left shoulder, causing me to stagger as Skye took back his favorite position. To my own surprise he had managed to get himself out of the bag of knot that was my hairs. "Ace, what's wrong? You know you can tell me everything." let out Ulrick, worries shaking his voice. "It's just… I… " I mumbled, trying to find the correct words. "Everything that you said… I'm glad you treat me like an equal but… it's never gonna be possible." I let out. "Why so? Nothing is impossible for you now!" "If only it was true…" I sighed "Why wouldn't it be?" he retorted "don't tell me you're afraid of heights?" he sniggered. "What!? No… well… maybe a bit but… just a bit…" "Relax; I know I would be scared to death the first time as well." he shushed in my ear. "It’s not that… I mean… flying on his back must be an incredible experience but… it's not that…" "What is it then?" "I've never fought before; I would suck so hard at being a dragon rider." I let out, feeling guilty. "Really… is that what is bothering you?" "Yes… among other things…" I admitted. "It's nothing we can't solve!" he shouted. "You… you think?" I stammered, hope glinting in my eyes. "Of course! Everything can be learned and it's far from too late to start. Hell I'd gladly be your teacher." "Really… you'd do that… for me?" I gasped, heat rushing to my cheeks.
"You bet your ass I would! It would be my greatest pleasure to help you. I'm no sword master but I can already teach you the basics and I'd love to help you practice. About magic… well it's not my thing either but I know someone that will gladly teach you everything he knows." "That… that would be wonderful…" I whispered, my whole body shivering in a mix of apprehension and excitement. "You know what I thought about going down in the city but I think I just found something better to do!" "So that's why you were wearing these clothes!" I exclaimed. "Clever guy" he chuckled, punching me in the shoulder. "But… aren't you supposed to always have your escort with you?" "Normally yes…" he sighed "but I'm tired of having an entire squad of guards on my butt all the time so sometime I sneak out by the old catacombs and roam around the city." "Just roaming?" "And take care of some other business; things I prefer to keep private." "I see…" I whispered, rubbing my chin. "That's why I wear these clothes, to better blend in with the crowd of my subjects. But I'm not reckless either; I always wear a light armor under my clothes and my trusty sword never leaves my side." he added, opening his jacket, exposing his sword before firmly pulling it out, the slick metal blade gleaning in the light, it's sharp edges cutting through the air, the flat sides covered of mysterious runes. "I've got an idea; why don't you try it out to get familiar with having a sword in hand." he suggested, aiming the blade toward the ground, handing me the sword with an inviting smile. I reached forward, every fiber of my being trembling as I made contact with the hilt. I froze, lifting my eyes from the weapon, staring deeply in Ulrick's eyes. He looked confident, sure of what he was doing. His fingers let go of the sword, leaving me alone to lift the heavy weapon. Actually not as heavy as I thought; my fingers tightly wrapping around the handle; holding the surprisingly light blade with ease.
"Not as heavy as you thought?" he asked, smiling amusingly. "No… it's… it's incredible…" I mumbled. "It's because it's made of a rare metal alloy tougher than steel but as light as a plume." he whispered, guiding my fingers to a better position. I shuddered, feeling so close to him. "Good… just like this…" he kept whispering as the blade rose up "now put your other hand under the first one… just like this… now raise the sword, keep your eyes focused on what is in front of you. Yes that's perfect." he kept speaking; I tried to listen to what he was saying but it was so hard remaining concentrated with him pressing his body against me; I felt the heat radiating from him, the sweet enticing scent of his perfume, his moist breath brushing over my neck, causing me to uncontrollably shudder in his grasp, the sword's blade wiggling in my weakening grasp. The embrace of his strong, marvelously shaped body around me was better than what I could have possibly dreamed of even in my craziest fantasies, leaving me breathless, my body going numb, only wishing to let go of that sword and fall in his arms instedad, feel his body, taste his lips once again and just give in our mutual desire.
However something was keeping me from doing just that, a pesky presence in the back of my mind tugging at an invisible bond, trying to nudge its spiritual self against my very soul, trying at all cost to get my attention. "Quit it Skye I'm busy" I growled, Shoving his annoying presence away, preventing him from coming back. I had quickly learned to erect a barrier to defend my mind from his curious prodding; it was a weak creation compared to what a real mage could do but it did the job, allowing me to dispatch my thoughts in areas he couldn't reach since one day I made the mistake of letting a silly thought wonder through my mind, in the end it slithered in our bona ending in the unprepared mind of my dragon. Skye at stared at me in a mix of embarrassment and curiosity, wondering what was that thing I thought about, which resulted in my cheeks burning red with shame. Sadly for me Skye wasn't the type to be denied so easily. At first he only seemed offended, frustrated by my attempt to keep him away, the young dragon ramming himself against my inner defenses, trying to get me to weaken enough for him to slip back in my head. But, as I kept him away I could sense he was becoming increasingly pissed off, manifesting his rising anger with growls and rumbles, baring his tiny fangs, his tail swishing from side to side, his wings flapping, his eyes darting menacingly at him, warning me to not push him too far but I remained oblivious to his calls. "What's wrong with Skye?" interrogated Ulrick. "I think he is pissed off you took away his favorite plaything." I giggled. "Oh… how cute… but don't be grumpy Skye I'll give him back to you as soon as we're finished." shushed Ulrick, patting Skye's head.
Skye, swift like an earl avoided the hand, glaring at it as if it was sort of evil, snapping his jaws right next to Ulrick's finger when he dared to come closer again. "Yes you're right he looks upset." "Heha because he feels you're stealing me away." "Oh relax little dude I'll give him back to you as soon as we're finished you don't have to worry." he replied, rubbing Skye's neck, right under his chin, earning a delighted purr. "Yeah… just give us a few minutes." I added. Skye only snorted in some kind of agreement.
Skye seemed to accept the situation, letting us enjoy ourselves while not being a part of the action, observing the shiny blade standing tall before him, his claws firmly digging in my shoulders to remind me he was still here.
"Better… now try to swing the blade." "You're sure?" "Certain." "I'm not sure it's a good idea." I let out, my hands trembling around the hilt, my eyes roaming around the corridor to make sure no one was spying on us. "Chill out, the worst thing that could happen is you breaking one of these old things and I'll cover you if it happens." "Thanks…" I let out, relieved "let's go then." I mumbled, apprehension gripping my heart, cold sweet running down my spine.
"Ulrick!" roared a mighty voice coming from behind us. We tensed, my eyes popping wide as I recognized the deep tone of the only one I feared in the palace. "Not now…" sighed Ulrick, obviously trying to think of a way to evade the situation.
I grimaced, Skye's paws tightening their grip around my shoulder, his claws tearing my shirt, poking at my skin. "Easy there…" I whined, hearing his deep growl. "Still doesn't like my father." giggled Ulrick. "Nope…" I huffed, trying to calm Skye down. How didn't we hear him coimng? Did he sneak upon us or what?
I threw a quick glance over my shoulder, discovering the tall old man dressed in preatty clothes, most of which hidden behind a long red robe adorned with gold. Behind him stood his massive, gigantic, truly enormous dragon, the old beast towering over us from his sheer height, peaking over our shoulders to see what we were doing. I gasped, met with the sight of his magnificent eyes staring down at us. The sword slipped from my weakening hands, noisily hitting the floor, bouncing once before slamming flat on the carpet. My whole frame was trembling, panic running though my veins, my hands closing on emptiness. "What is happening here?" growled the emperor, his tone sounding like he was in a bad mood. "I think our two love birds are enjoying some alone time." chuckled the emperor’s dragon, his deep voice rocking every inch of my flesh, each word sounding like an earthquake in my ears. Immediately a warm blush creeps over my face. "No it's not true!" yelled Ulrick, taking a step away from me "where did you get that silly idea you oversized lizard?!" The emperor's dragon only gave another low chuckle observing with unhidden amusement. Skye let out a high pitched chirp, his wings happily fluttering as he spotted the large old dragon. It had astonished me how social he was with other dragons, every time he saw one it was a show of pure happiness, he would jump on them, cling to their scales and fool around until exhaustion. Most dragons didn't complain, letting the youthful dragon explore and have his fun, some other would gently push him away when they grew tired of his sticky behavior. The emperor's dragon however seemed used to it as, he bumped Skye 's chest with his massive snout, proving an impressive gentleness, giving the joyful drake a quick nuzzle before pulling away, not leaving Skye any time to latch onto his scales with his tiny claws. "Hello young one." purred the emperor’s dragon, exchanging a long caring look with Skye. "What were you two doing here exactly?" grumbled the emperor, taking a long detour around his own dragon to come face to face with us. At the instant Slye laid eyes on the emperor his behavior completely shifted, his smile turning into a twisted grimace, his lips pulled back, baring his fangs as a deep menacing growl escaped his maw, his eyes shining with defiance. The emperor kept his distance; always on his guards around Skye since the day he had tried to claw and melt his face down. "Nothing father… we were just talking." replied Ulrick, keeping his eyes low. "With a sword…" commented the emperor, grabbing his son's sword before handing it back to its owner. Ulrick grabbed his weapon and sheathed it with a disappointed look, frustrated to have been interrupted like this. I had to admit I wasn't that happy either. "Now Ulrick could you tell me exactly what you two were up to?" "Well I… I was showing Ace… how to fight with a sword."
The emperor's face was promptly warmed up by a wide smile "a bright idea indeed my son" approved the emperor "but I think there are more appropriate place to practice swordsmanship." "We weren't about to use it; I just wanted to get Ace used to handling one." "I'm proud to see you're investing yourself in the education of our latest addition to the order of the dragon riders; sadly I'll have to ask you to stop here and now" "Why? We weren't doing anything wrong!" I protested. "Apologies Ace but we have more important matters to take care of." he replied, his cold tone making it clear to me that there was no negotiation possible. "Is that so important?" enquired Ulrick. "It is?" "Are we in a hurry?" "We are Ulrick; it is of a primary importance." added his father, his voice full of hidden meanings. "Oh I see…" mumbled Ulrick, scratching the back of his head. "But must it be done today? I mean I'm kinda busy and… I had other plans for the day…" he begged, throwing me an insisting look who for me meant "help me!" but I was powerless; I couldn't influence the emperor's decision. "I am sorry to learn that but what we have to do now is far more important; the future of the empire and our people depends on it."
I felt the crushing weight of his words, staggering when the truth struck me: one day I would be fighting to protect the kingdom; I would put my life and the life of my dragon to the emperor’s service and fight until the last, greatest sacrifice. Fear gripped my heart, a shiver running down my spine. Skye observed me, his cute yes going over my face, wondering what had taken over me. The contact of his warm tongue dashing over my skin did little to reassure me. "Alright then…" sighed Ulrick, defeated "I'm coming" "Good; I'll be waiting for you; don't be late." said the emperor, turning around. But, three steps after he abruptly turned toward us, facing us, wearing a severe looking expression. "Oh and Ulrick; I know what you were up to." "Busted…" swore Ulrick under his breath. "We already talked about that and you know what I think of you going out without protection." "Who said I didn't wore any protection." retorted Ulrick, poking at his chest, causing a metallic sound to fill the air "beside I know how to defend myself." "Still it isn't wise to expose yourself in public like you do." "I know father but…" "But we don't have time to argue again about this; get ready and please put some more appropriate clothes." "Fine… I will…" he grumbled.
His father gave him one last warning look then, without another word left, walking away in the corridor, his dragon following in his tracks.
"Damn that sucks!" he shouted when they were out of sight, and out of ear range. "Agreed." I let out. "Well… guess I'll have to change my plans; prince's duties prevail over everything else you know"" "Too bad…" "Yep and since I've just been grounded…" "Really? I didn't feel that." "Hehe but it's what my father meant." "Damn even at your age he still grounds you at home." I laughed. "Still treated like a child." he approved in a long annoyed sigh "hey you know what I just had a better idea; a much better idea." "I'm listening" I replied, a shudder of impatience coursing through me. "Why don't you meet me in… let's say two hours in the main hall" "Why not… and then?" "Well we'll see when we will be there." he answered, keeping a veil of mystery on his thoughts. "Sounds interesting, alright I'll be there." I stated. "Good; I'll be waiting impatiently." he purred in my ear, driving me in a loving hug, landing a soft but furtive kiss on my cheek before he went away, leaving me alone in the corridor, puzzled and blushing.
The only one happy seemed to be Skye, a satisfied smile spreading on his lips as Ulrick turned around the corner. "What's making you smile?" I huffed, playing with one of his horns. Skye snorted, nuzzling back in my hand, his agile tongue swiftly dashing out, slathering my palm in warm sticky saliva. "Ahahah stop this!" I gasped, giggling uncontrollably. Skye persisted, his tongue coiling around my fingers, playing with whatever he could reach. "Stop that Skye it tickles!" I yelped, grabbing him with my free hand and pulling in him for a hug. Without the slightest hint of resistance, nestling himself comfortably against my chest, letting out a low purr as my hands rub his back. I feel him calm down, his eyes closing, savoring the moment as we cuddle together in the middle of that empty corridor. I feel his scales shuddering under me, his snout resting on my abs, grinding against me to get more affection. Slowly my mind drifts away as I cradle him; my thoughts going over everything that happened without finding something to focus on. A shiver of excitement caused my whole body to shake; I still couldn't believe the prince himself was willing to train me but… in the meantime I was unsure if it was such a great idea. I mean, the thought of being with Skye, to fight side by side in the skies, a sword in my hand, magic pulsing from the other and fire spilling from his mouth; we would be unstoppable. But that sweet sounding thought was quickly wiped away by a wave of fear; what if I lost him in the battle; I had heard stories of rider loosing their dragon, I had bean told of the humongous pain that would drive them to the confine of madness or… if I did… I knew Skye would inevitably join me in the cold embrace of death. The idea of loosing him was unbearable; I couldn't stand the mere thought of being separated from him. Perhaps… perhaps it wasn't such a bright idea to become a dragon rider, as exciting as the adventure may have sounded; the thrill of combat wasn't worth the bitter taste of death and sorrow.
Pain surged through my body, strange warmth spreading over my skin as I was brought back to reality. "What the…" I gasped, biting down on my tongue. Underneath my palm I could sense Skye's scales but for some reason he was so tense, as if he was scared, his whole frame trembling, squirming in my grasp, his claws scraping at my shirt, tearing through the thin fabric with ease, even cutting through my skin, drawing some blood.
In the meantime my head was becoming a mess, conflicting emotions colliding, my walls collapsing as a familiar presence rushed straight for my now exposed and vulnerable mind; almost knocking me out when it nudged itself against me.
There was, in the way he rammed himself against me, a sense of emergency, like a distress call. Finally I understood what he was trying to tell me. I was still holding him in my arms or rather squashing him against my chest, squeezing his tiny frame too hard for comfort, to the point it became painful and his pain was expressed send to me. "Sorry…" I whispered, loosening my grip. Instantly he sprang away with one impressively powerful kick, flapping his wings as he flew backward, landing softly on the nearest furniture, the same where I had left that large plate some time ago. He vigorously shook himself, stretching up a bit before me, not throwing me a single look. I kneeled before him, coming at eye level but still he didn't look at me once. "Hey Skye" I called, earning a huff and an angry glare. I reached out with a hand, rubbing his chest. At first he seemed reluctant, taking a step back, baring his fangs menacingly, forbidding me to come closer. "Sorry… I got scared…" I let out, trying to keep my voice as low and soft as possible. "Are you alright?"
Slowly, ever so slowly he came back to me, nuzzling my face, his scales brushing against my skin as one of my hand found a sweet spot to rub, earning a low satisfied purr. The tension was quickly forgotten as he frantically ground his snout against my cheek, humming and purring deeply, his tongue occasionally dashing out to lap at my face. I closed my eyes, letting the feeling of his warm scales pressed tightly against me. My hands wandered forward, caressing his flanks, listening to the adorable noises he made, his wings uncontrollably flapping when I inadvertently touched their sensitive membrane. "Come on let's go buddy." I murmured, inviting onto my shoulder. We didn't waste any time jumping back to his favorite spot… not without catching a biscuit between his fangs on the plate I had forgotten there. I stared, mouth open, eyes bulging wide while he devoured his snack right next to my ear, sending me some provoking glances. "You little clever bastard you had that planned all along!" I shouted, only able to rub the top of his head "man you're one smart dragon." I sighed, my eyes falling on the dishes once again. "Guess I should take care of that before you get other ideas you naughty drake." I sighed, grabbing the heavy pile under Skye's satisfied look. I dropped everything in the kitchen which was three floors below but, when I climbed back to the main floor I was met with a completely different sight. It was like the whole castle had gone nuts. Everyone seemed to be in an inexplicable state of euphoria, everything seemed in effervescence, servants running in all directions carrying plates and other objects, guards taking their position as before my eyes a tall man entered the hall, dressed in a black and crimson red. The red parts looked like trails, stain of fresh blood but I knew they were only hints of color to scare the opponent, to show he was a great warrior and trust me it did it's effect on me.
I hid in a dark corner, observing the bulky man walk in the corridor; his face a cold rock allowing no emotion to slip on hit hard traits. Skye was doing just like me, spying on the impressive man; his snout peaking out of the corner of wall, a tingle of fear passing from his mind to mine. He was scared as well. But, as I detailed the man I realized he must have been an officer or a general by the look of his armor, no soldier could offer himself such fancy and expensive looking equipment. Soon his weapon came into view, an immense battle axe strapped to his back, the edges looking sharp and deadly. "Man… who's that guy…" I whispered, watching him vanish behind a door. But it wasn't the only one; soon another one showed up, another general with a gold armor and a glyph covered spear; then came a chubby man wearing a white suit who was giving instruction to another man trotting behind him to keep up with the pace. People kept coming in, passing in that corridor and disappearing behind the same door guarded by an entire squad of guards who kept a constant awareness of their surroundings, letting no one close unless they were allowed inside. Among all the important looking people that entered in that room there were mages, politicians, a man who carried the smell of the sea with him and countless others I couldn't identify. Once everyone was gone I stepped in the now empty corridor, throwing a quick look on each side; everything looked empty and silent, only a few servants were left, talking to each others, forming a small group. "Hey you know what's going on?" I asked them.
All of them turned their gazes toward me, their lips immediately pinching in suspicion, their eyes scrutinizing me like a stranger. I know I wasn't very apreciated before and that now it only became worse but the way they glare at me is giving me murderous impulses. I feel my fists clench as, on my shoulder Skye let out a deep growl. "Wow easy man!" yells one, taking a step back, his face becoming a pale mask of raw fear. "Calm down dude!" gasped another. It took me a split second to realize my eyes were blazing with uncontained anger while blue flames spilled from Skye's maw "jeez don't get mad for that!" added the third one, all of them now backing off like terrified animals before a predator. It was longer to calm down than to loose my temper and, deep inside among the servants I knew this wouldn't help my reputation at all. "So start speaking" I spat "I'm already in a bad mood so don't make it worse." "Alright…” sighed the first guy, wiping the sweat of his forehead "there's some sort of big meeting planned…" "Well planned… it's more like it was decided a few hours ago." sniggered the second, arms crossed over his chest "like always." "Nevertheless it's something big, and I'm serious when I say that." completed the third one "I've seen several army generals come in and a bunch of other important guys."
I nodded, acknowledging their words as, in the corner of my eyes I noticed Ulrick sneaking in the room not without addressing me an almost invisible smile.
The group of servant scattered, leaving me alone in the corridor. I had several hours of spare time ahead of me and no idea on how to use them. I turned around, ready to get back to my room to chill when I heard Skye let out an inquisitive warble, twisting his neck to look behind me. In an instant an ocean of happiness invaded my mind, pouring out from our link. I tried to contain the stream but it kept flooding my head to the point where I staggered on my feet. On top of my shoulder Skye was squirming; his tail swishing hieratically from side to side as high pitched chirrs and squeaks left his maw. "Oh look at that; if it isn't my favorite little dragon!" exclaimed a familiar deep draconic voice. Skye's happiness seemed contagious but I didn't need it to be so happily smiling when I turned around, facing the source of the approaching friendly voice. I am not disappointed by what I discover as I lay eyes upon the scales of a tall black and blue creature. "Kyo!" I exclaim, as cheerful as Skye, recognizing in the blink of an eye my friend. Kyo was equally smiling, obviously happy to see us again, his deep blue eyes sparkling with joy.
Skye didn't waste a single second, jumping from my shoulder, landing on Kyo's large snout, hugging the much bigger drake with every inch of his small body, holding onto the slick scales like his life depended of it. Kyo staggered back under the violent impact, his head bowing down with the added weight, letting out a low huff of discomfort but keeping up the same smile; his long agile tongue slipping out of his maw, affectionately lapping at Skye's belly, causing the little dragon to chirp and giggle. "As lovely as always" he chuckled, letting Skye play with his scales, nuzzling and rubbing himself all over Kyo's larger face. "You mean sticky." sniggered a second voice right underneath him. "I don't mind the slightest… he's just in a cuddly mood." "You have no idea." I sighed, coming closer. "Guess he's been pestering you all day." let out Allen, reaching out with a hand I gladly shook. "Not that but he becomes very annoying when you're not constantly taking care of him all the time." " I'm not surprised to hear that." chuckled Kyo, bowing his head down, watching Skye slip, his claws unable to find a solid grip to steady himself "time to let go little one." he whispered, blowing hot air over Skye's chest. But to his own dismay Skye found a grip onto his nostrils. "I see what you mean" he mumbled, trying to gently shake off the pesky, sticky, playful dragonet "stop this it's tickling" he added, his nostrils uncontrollably twitching under the relentless tickling of Skye's stubby claws. "Oh god I'm gonna sneeze…"
"Oh oh… I'd advise you to step aside" suggested Allen. "I think that's a good idea." I approved, getting out of the way. Skye chose that exact moment to unlatch his claws and glide back to my shoulder. "Sorry for that…" mumbled Kyo when it was gone. "It's nothing" "He's… more playful than I thought… he's quite the energetic dragon." "He never settles" I laughed, rubbing Skye's chin, listening to his low purrs. "Guess he doesn't leave you any time to relax." mocked another deep inhuman voice. "I see you brought the whole family this time Kyo!" I shouted, scratching the bulky snout that just bumped in my flank. "You couldn't be more correct" he answered, his grin growing wider. I threw a look around, noticing the other man standing next to the green dragon. "Hi… er… excuse me I forgot your name again…" I let out, embarrassed" "Kyle; and don't you dare to forget it again!" he replied, crushing my hand more than he shook it. "Got it…" I grumbled, pulling away. "So Ace how've you been doing so far?" enquired Kyo, honestly concerned. "You mean with that little troublemaker? I'd say it's been alright." "Good to know" chuckled Kyo, keeping a kind eye on Skye. "Except the fact he's one hungry dragon! He just stole some by the way." "Oh… you didn't do that Skye… did you?" sighed Kyo, disappointment darkening his face. SKye looked down, adopting a guilty expression. "Young dragons like him need to eat a lot but that's not a reason to steal you hear me Skye!" he snarled in Skye's hear, my dragon letting out a low squeak, begging for forgiveness while in my head he was pretty much doing the same.
"Don't be ashamed of punishing him sometime; I mean… when it's necessary of course." advised Kyo. I pinched my lips, showing me skepticism. I wasn't a hundred percent behind the idea of yelling at my dragon. "I know you're not confident in that regard but… think about it, you'll be performing the tasks usually done by the parents… like teaching him what is right… or wrong." "Sounds like a lot to do…" I mumbled, nervous. "Sorry but… think about it… you're his only family; no one knows where he came from." "In that big pile of eggs it's hard to guess whose egg it was." added Tarken. "So… you're probably… his only family." let out Kyo. "Thanks for the added pressure Kyo… it really helps." I murmured, throwing Skye a whole new look. He stared back at me, acknowledging the importance of the situation, the meaning of the spoken words. But to my own surprise his lips curled with a confident smile, his eyes glinting with what I can only describe as love. He even nodded, as if he was trying to tell me something, something I could only translate "you've got what it takes to do it."
Skye believed in me; he had faith in me… or at least I thought so. Confidence surged into me, feeling me with warmth and determination as I smiled back, planting my eyes into his. "But I'm sure you'll do just fine… am I right?" questioned Kyo who had continued speaking while we were exchanging looks. "Er… yeah… I suppose…"
A wide grin enlightened his face "yep… no doubt you two are meant for each another." "Shut up! In your mouth it sounds like we're doing… things…" I yelled, gently pushing his big snout away. "Oh I wasn’t implying that; I just noticed the way he looked at you." "You must be right." "You don’t seem quite… confident in it yourself. Are you sure everything’s fine?" commented Tarken, concern peaking in his tone. "Well… it's not that but… I can't stop thinking it's all a matter of hazard and luck." "You may be right but… I prefer to think there was a part of luck indeed but even thought it could have fallen on someone else I'm not sure he would have bonded with that other person. You see… we're not always wise but… most dragons decide with who they want to link their life and how they wish to share this gift. For a long time I thought the dragons who lived in these lands were weak-minded puppets dominated by the humans… but I was proven wrong from the very start, from the very day I created a bond I thought I would never do… with Allen… and now… I'm glad it fell on him rather than anyone else. So for me… Skye chose you, with his heart and soul he knew it was you he wanted." Exclaimed Kyo in a reassuring way; trying to comfort me, to make my doubts go away but to no avail. "But why me… I mean I'm no warrior; I have no skills in combat…" "Maybe but you are clever and you have a strong mind and will, you fought to survive, you didn't let others reduce you to what you once were and even now you don't let other's thoughts and beliefs get to you, you make your own way." "Maybe… but can't deny I constantly feel their glares on my back." "They're just jealous Ace! They only want what you were gifted with for themselves." "Yep, and some might call you freak or weirdo but it doesn't matter. What is important is what you think Ace." approved Allen, joining the conversation "You know not so long ago I was only a farm boy in a tiny village lost in the mountains; I always dreamed of going out and discover the world and now my dream came true." "And me I was a servant to that big green oaf there." grunted Kyle, rubbing Tarken's chest. "And it works in the other way" added Tarken, gently shoving Kyle away "During my entire life I travailed, I visited other countries and I was always fascinated by dragons and humans sharing that bond but I never dared to do it myself. I guess the old tales I was told when I was a whelp still scared me. I only dared to cross the gap when I saw how it went for Kyo and Allen… although it was recent for them. But all along I knew with who I wanted to create that bond." "And I'm not even better: for as far as I remember I've always despised humans as… puppets for us… tiny little thing only good at serving us. To give you an idea for me they were only good at worshiping my cock. I always disregarded them, hated them, saw them as those who enslaved my kind with these so called bond so when my turn came I only bonded with Allan because I needed to survive, only an act of despair and I went pretty harsh on him but now… I see how wrong I was and I don't regret my choices at all" mumbled Kyo, staring intently at Allen, showing a look of pure affection and care. "Well… and I kinda forced myself onto the guy I bonded with so he wouldn't abandon me." mumbled a voice, a voice I had never heard before; the voice of a dragon, a young one from the pitch of his tone but still a dragon I couldn't see. No one beside me seamed to acknowledge the words as if they didn't hear the one who just spoke.
"See… we all have our stories and I'm sure every dragon rider has one to tell." "Wow… I didn't see things from that angle…" I mumbled.
"And about your inexistent fighting skills as you say it's nothing but a small issue, everything can be learned and we would gladly help in whatever way you want. Beside; you won't be alone; you already have Skye and I can tell he'll be a very good fighter." "How can you tell that?" "First he already knows and masters how to breathe fire. Secondly I remember how he tried to protect you… and I'm a hundred percent sure the emperor still remembers it." "You're right…" I admitted, smiling deviously as I recalled the emperor staggering back, a small dragon glued to his face, trying to claw and bite at him, only managing to scratch and nibble his skin, causing minor damages. "Yes; you're right." "You have a wonderful dragon that cares for you and will look after you in the future Ace; you are a really lucky man." purred Kyo "Yep compared to us you're damn lucky dude." sighed Allen. "Why do you say that?" "Let's just say Kyo and Tarken aren't always easy to live with." admitted Kyle. "Why that?" "When they're not breeding each other all day long they're arguing for nothing or doing completely incoherent and risky things." "Hey that's false it only happened once or twice." protested Kyo, a reddish hue forming on his cheeks.
"A-anyway back to the main subject I'd say that it's all a matter of finding your fighting style." "True" approved Kyle "guns like this baby do a real carnage in a good shooter’s hand" "Or a bow and arrows can do just as well." added Allen "and the little plus is that no one hears you coming where with a gun it's all loud and heavy as if you were warning your enemies of your arrival" "But they kick asses really well." retorted Kyle. "I… I don't know guys; I never used one before." I stammered. "Then… a sword will do nicely… for starter." they let out in perfect sync. "Or one of these sweet gun blades could be cool as hell." quickly added Kyle "but that's only my opinion." "But don't underestimate magic, it's a really helpful thing and if handled properly it's as deadly as any sword." "Yes but for now I’d advise to stick to actual weapons." snorted Tarken.
"Actually… Ulrick… I mean the prince Ulrick just offered to be my teacher." "That's a wonderful news but what is he eager to show you?" sniggered Kyo. "Sword fighting…" I mumbled, feeling warmth rush to my cheeks. "You're in good hands. The emperor and his family Aare renown for being among the best sword master in the realm; it's a great honor to be trained by them." said Allen, greeting me with a smile in which I spotted some envy. "Although… are you sure this is the only thing he offered to show you?" giggled Kyo, his eyebrows fluttering maliciously. "Kyo!" roared Allen. "What? I meant fill him in on the historical side of thing for example; I mean there is quite a thick and lengthy story to go through… and trust me… some parts are hard to swallow" murmured Kyo. "Why do I sense a hidden meaning to that?" Grumbled Tarken, his lips twisted by anger. "You're not the only one." sighed Allen.
"Why do you see evil everywhere?" growled Kyo "I'm only suggesting." "Sorry I must have misunderstood." snorted Tarken, keeping an eye on Kyo as he turned his gaze toward me once more. "But tell me… aside from training how is it going?" "I'm doing fine, just doing my job like before." "You know you won't have to in a close future." chuckled Kyo "I predict you will be way too busy to be the nice obedient servant you once were." "Maybe… but I never said I wanted to embrace that fate." "True" snorted Kyo "but what else do you want to do?" "Well… I'm… I'm not sure I want to be a dragon rider." "Are you afraid of bighting?" "No… I'm afraid of loosing him," I let out, hugging Skye once again, a tear slipping from my eyes. "I understand… we all wish to stay with the other as long as possible but if you want to achieve that you will have to be able to defend yourself and Skye."
I gulped down, staring at my dragon with teary eyes. Skye nuzzled my face affectionately, letting out soft reassuring coos. "And even if you don't battle and prefer to… I don't know explore the immensity of the world you'll have to be arable to overcome the dangers in your way." I nodded, cuddling the tiny dragon's snout. "Beside… I'm not sure you are aware of it but dragons… upon bonding grant another well-hidden gift to their riders." Hushed Kyo like he was telling me a forbidden secret. "What is it?" I mumbled, getting closer, shivering in anticipation. "We dragons… grant an innate longer lifespan to the human we choose." "Really!? Like… how long" "I don't know… maybe you should ask the emperor directly." chuckled Kyo, a malicious grin plastered across his face. "The emperor… why?" "Do you have any ideas of how old he is?" asked Kyo, addressing his word to everyone." "I'd say… something like fifty." suggested Allen. "Nah man you've seen him, all wrinkled with white air… for me it's mole like seventy." proposed Kyle." "And you Ace? How old do you think it is?" "Why is that so important?" "Just answer would you." "I'd say… sixty." "What if I told you you were all wrong and by far." "What! He can't be that old!" shouted Allen and Kyle in perfect sync. "Ask him… I'm sure you will be surprised." sniggered Kyo, keeping a veil of mystery on a silly sounding question. "So… you mean dragons really offer a gift of a longer life?" "Yes; I've seen dragons about a millennium old so Imagine if you have to live that long with Skye; there will inevitably a moment where you will need to learn the arts of combat… and it leaves you plenty of time to master them all."
I remained silent, staring at Skye, imagining us together in so many years it would be impossible to count, I saw him as a fully grown dragon standing tall over all the other dragons, as big as the emperor's dragon… or maybe even bigger and me, standing by his side, a sword tied to my waist, dressed in a shiny armor, observing the horizon. I had a feeling what I was trying to imagine was well below what we could achieve after some training but fear was still tugging at the back of my mind, holding me back. "I know you are still afraid" whispered Kyo, adopting a reassuring tone "we all are; I know I not only fear to lose Allen but also my mate." "Hush your big mouth you flattered" giggled Tarken, nuzzling Kyo lovingly. Kyo purred, nuzzling him back in the same affectionate manner. "You two are cute." I let out, observing them with a look of envy. If only… if only I didn't have to hide my love to Ulrick; we couldn't make it official yet and had to be careful anyone saw us kissing. We both knew it would be mayhem and a political earthquake when we would dare to spill the secret out.
"But tell me Ace; is it everything? I feel like something is bothering you." spoke Kyo, freeing himself from his mat's embrace. "No… nothing I was just… thinking." "Don't think too much about it; just do it!” encouraged Kyo, bumping me in the shoulder. "However I still have a… question I want you to answer." he shushed next to my ear "how is it going with your lover?"
I was expecting that one but I couldn't help the warmth spreading over my face. "Well… it's… er… we shouldn't be talking about that here." I whispered back; throwing suspicious glances around me.
Kyo and Tarken had come visit me a few times in the past few weeks and we had ended up broaching that subject. At first I was shy about the whole thing, preferring to keep it secret rather than sharing my thoughts and feelings, even more to two dragons. How could they understand human feelings? But to my own surprise they were able to help me out. I soon learned how intimate they were with each other, mates, lovers just like I was with Ulrick. I had actually found out when they had busted them kissing in a dark corridor after they had pretended an urgent reason to go away. When I had spotted I immediately covered Skye's eyes, protecting him from the lewd scene I had discovered. Thee two of, them were lewdly kissing, eyes closed, jaws interlocked, thick saliva drizzling along their chin, their forms shuddering in love and arousal as under them, between their hind legs stood their half erect members. That is a sight I would never forget. It is also how I discovered how lewd and easily aroused these two could be, constantly teasing and flirting oblivious to the outside world. The worst of them on that subject was Kyo, seemingly always horny, always having an idea to lead the conversation to more embarrassing subjects. After some time I had come to the realisation they understood what I felt and how I felt because they had went through the same things and, without a second thought told them everything. In return they opened to me; spoke of the difficulties, of the obstacles, of the doubts, the issues, the bad decisions, misadventures and other mistakes they went through. I learned more on them than I thought I would, even coming to laugh with them, feeling at ease talking to them of what weighted on my heart.
Although their life seemed a never ending adventure they looked happy to settle down and chat with me; giving me plenty of good advices, some of them I didn't understand yet. But of the two of them Kyo was the most forward, the most keen to drifting toward naughtier subjects, embarrassing me with intrusive questions, his untamed lust shining in his eyes until Tarken would silence him one way or another.
Still I was glad to have them around; they were a god company and relieved me of the weight Skye could be; that little never exhausted dragon abandoning me for the time of our talk to play with the two older dragon, climbing on their scales, playing with whatever he found amusing but I was still embarrassed to broach lewd subject when Skye was around. I was certain that, behind his playful and innocent look he understood more than he let us suppose and at that precise moment he seamed very interested in listening to our conversation, his ears perked, his attention fully focused on us. "Come on don't be shy; you can tell me everything." purred Kyo. My blush only increased, my face heating up, becoming to hot I felt in the brink of catching fire.
………
Allen
Damn I had almost forgotten about him. I feel a smile stretching on my lips; it feels good to see him again. Too bad we were so busy lately: because of our dragon's reckless actions to come and say hi. If it hadn't been for that lucky encounter in that hall, and for that one wild thought roaming thought Kyo's busy mind I wouldn't have remembered it. I am actually surprised Kyo did recall it with all the different line of thoughts intertwined, entangled in his mind. Feeling that one thought drifting from the rest had at first disturbed me; how could he find time to think about it with everything happening? But after I remembered he was completely fond of that little dragon. What was his name already? Skye… I think. I knew he was caring for that little dragon from the day he was made aware of the dragonet’s disappearance. Knowing what family meant for him along with the story tying him to the eggs it was understandable why he lost his mind when he was told one had vanished without a trace. From the very first second he saw the hatchling in Ace's arms I sensed that sheer, overwhelming happiness mixed with relief that flooded his system; the very same emotions coursing through me right now as he spotted him at the corner of the hall. Yet, I couldn't stop noticing that detail in the blend of good emotions a disturbance, a sparkle of envy sadness and sorrow contained for too long.
I knew Kyo well now and it was clear to me the sight of that once blind kind guy and his small bright blue dragon latched onto his shoulder was bringing back countless painful memories to the surface.
I shook hand with Ace, glad to see him again but; in the meantime I wasn't focused on the conversation taking place, still answering nevertheless but my mind wasn't onto it.
My eyes kept drifting away, finding themselves glued to something else, a black frame a bit taller than me: Alckor. I couldn't tell why but I wasn’t as cheerful and happy as Kyo about his little bro's as sudden and improbable reappearance. It didn't make any sense to me. I had seen him fight along the Watcher and his minions; even when Kyo had trusted him I wasn't so sure and now, after all the mayhem he had caused Kyo seemed to have forgotten his past but I didn't; my guts were telling me there was something wrong with this drake, something of with his brutal comeback. Deep inside I had the feeling, the certainty of something evil plotting behind our backs. As I saw it Alckor was only a decoy, a innocent, helpless and weak little thing eager to be reunited with his family, a way to deceive us, to make us lower our guard until the lucking malicious forces would strike. I knew I wasn’t the only one thinking that way, sensing Kyle's heavy, suspicious glare homed on the young black dragon's back. Sadly I knew that if I dared to shake these thoughts with Kyo he would either laugh at me mock me for being over suspicious;… or what was more probable he would freak out, unleashing his wrath upon me; defending his little brothers against everything and everyone, even if it meant being blind to the truth. I couldn't blame him for that but I couldn't let him be fooled by his emotions. Yet I kept these doubts for myself, preferring to keep a close exe on the potential menace.
It allowed me to observe the young drake from a different angle still I couldn't deny my skepticism; I knew Kyo very well and, from the few pictures he had agreed to share with me I had a pretty clear picture of what his brother should have looked like but in reality it was completely different thing. He had nothing similar to Kyo, both in his look and in his attitudes. Yet it was indubitable that Kyo’s memories had withered away with time, becoming idealized reflections of the past. Yet… he still had nothing similar to Kyo. I spend a long time observing him, spying on him, taking note of every detail I saw. He had… something I couldn’t explain; firstly he was scary, terrifying, a beast born from mankind's worst nightmares. He was a strange fusion of a dragon and something else; he had kept all the aspects of a dragon but with… improved upgraded features for a dragon his age. His black scales looked tough and slick, glimmering in the light; the rest of him was a deep, almost black purple, that unusual hue spread all over his belly, chest, undertail, until the base of his neck; his wing membrane was a similar, maybe slightly lighter shade. There also were thin, almost invisible purple lines all over him, forming one giant thing I didn't identify; it curled around his forelimbs, stopping on the base of his claws, took long gracious curves on his flanks, extending all the way to his tail tip, one line slithering along his neck, crossing over one of his eyes, wrapping like a rope around his snout before abruptly stopping with one last curl on the edge of his chin. It was weird at first glance but in the meantime I found it gave him quite a nice look, "If it was only for the scales he would be one average black dragon… a handsome one on top of that" I thought, making sure none of this slipped in Kyo's mind. Sadly, that first impression was quickly overshadowed by the rest; all the things that made him look menacing, dangerous and evil. My eyes stopped roaming around, focusing on all that needed to be seen, examined, analyzed and understood. Firstly his claws, long, too long for him, spurting from his toes, long ivory blades curled at their tip, sharper than blades and deadly, meant to tear through anything and make blood rain.
Even he looked uncomfortable with team, the long appendages scraping and noisily racking the ground with each step, getting caught in everything. Then my eyes went up, following the purple lines along his limbs, tensing when I noticed the taut muscles bulging underneath the scales, filled with untold strength. I kept going upward, realizing how muscular he was for a young drake, his body gifted with enough muscle mass to make a fully grown up blush. His wings had nothing special, only broad and powerful membranous wings like any other dragons. I however stopped on the long spikes aligned on his back, long white thorns that looked pointy enough to impale someone daring to attack him from above or behind. I followed them until I reached his tail, the thick sinuous appendage hanging low, covering what had to be hidden "unlike Kyo" I thought with a discreet smile. It was covered of the same thorns, muscular and agile enough to act as some sort of whip that I was certain would be devastating in ^combat. It was all without counting what ended his tail. At first it didn't make any sense; it didn't look natural, if it had been strapped to the tip of his tail but no, it was all perfectly normal. I gasped, discovering a curved ivory white blade culminating at the very tip of his tail, swishing around with the rest of it. Then my eyes quickly came back up, following the long curve of his neck instead, noticing the same long spikes there as well. “Damn mounting him must be a pain with all these things." I whispered. I knew Kyo had the same kind of spikes but there was enough distance between two for me to sit and grab one for support. On alckor however there was no room for someone to sit for a ride. I took a few seconds to detail the two white horns protruding from his skull; they had nothing unusual, just two slightly backward curved horns. Actually his whole face didn't have much in terms of dangerousness, it was rather normal for a dragon, a snout with a maw, two eyes of that same purple color, cut in half in their centers by a vertical slit that were his pupils. Even that small stubby horn standing at the very end of his snout between his nostrils looked cute.
A chill ran down my spine as, in a display of boredom his maw gaped open on a yowl. My hands instinctively found the handle of my sword, ready to unsheathe it at the first sign of danger. Before me, as his jaws part wider I was met with a bone-chilling sight, long fangs were unveiled, dripping with a thick saliva, so much I couldn't count them all, stuffing his maw with a forest of deadly fangs that I knew would happily sink in still warm and oozing flesh of a freshly killed prey and rip a part of it just for the wicked pleasure of tasting his blood. My apprehending gaze fell upon those two massive hooks-like fangs dropping from his upper jaw, resting outside of his maw, giving him an even fiercer look. I had a feeling that if they were to end up in someone's body it wouldn't only be to just bite; I had the feeling they had another purpose. As he closed his mouth I noticed a small puff of a blackish smoke escaping between his jaws, floating in midair a few seconds before dissolving. Another thing to worry about. Was it poison? I didn't know but the more I looked at him the less I trusted him.
Without warning his neck twisted around, our eyes meeting for the first time. I froze, my hand clutching my sword's handle as if my life depended on it. But wasn't it the case? Yet, as we stared deeply in each other's eyes, like they were opened gates to our souls yet what I saw in these eyes didn't make sense, he seemed as afraid as I was, terrified by me much as he caused tremors of pure fear to course through me. My grip on the sword loosened, my hand falling limply, our eyes remaining glued, the intense stare going on for what looked like ages. I felt like drowning into them, falling in a mesmerizing purple abyss. The same feeling I had when I stared into Kyo's eyes for too long. What I saw inside was utterly disarming, I felt my doubts, my suspicion, all of that fading away like snow melting under the sun. I saw more than I expected; I saw the shy little kid he was inside, a young dragon eager to discover; that laid curious eyes on everything he saw, a dragon that was still trying to understand the world he lived in, a youngling that knew nothing but who was eager to explore, that was craving to learn. But, behind that first veil of youthful innocence and eagerness I saw fright, fear, but not directed to me… or partly at least; a fear toward himself , as if he hadn't yet understood what he was, scared by his own self as if his body was an alien entity foreign to him.
I mean there were reasons to be scared to death, he was truly terrifying, for a complete stranger he would have looked like a murderous wild beast hunting a weak prey, prowling in the night; a strange but handsome mix between a dragon and features ripped from a demoniac creature born from the deepest, darkest corner of hell, a creation born from the most twisted imagination possible. Yet in the meantime he seemed to be the most sympathetic and gentle creature possible. "A pure heart hidden behind the face of a monster." I thought. But I knew deep inside what sacred him the most were his powers. It was like no one had ever told him how to use them. I had no idea of his precise age; I was only sure he was younger than Kyo and he looked to even less experienced with his powers. Kaos had quickly briefed me oh how it worked; the ability of draining energy from his environment, from all living things and use it for himself under the form of power or to enhance his body. It was an immense power; and a very dangerous one if not properly handled. From his current look there was no doubt he had been exposed to a tremendous amount of raw demonic energy. Yet he seemed to have no control over them, that power going on and off out of his own accord, leaving him scared to use it, terrified by what chaos it could cause. My doubts were gone… my suspicion a mere memory… or that's what I thought. When he broke the stare, that invisible bridge linking us for a few seconds or an eternity I noticed something, a slight shift in the corner of his eyes while his head dropped down, his gaze focusing on an old armor displayed in a glass box.
I tensed; biting my lips. When pain jolted in my mouth and a coppery flavor flooded my mouth I knew I hadn’t dream. There was, hidden deep beneath the rest, lost in the mass of emotions something else, something awkward shadowing his eyes, a sentiment of guilt. What was the reason? I didn't know but all of a sudden he didn't seem to be able to bear my look anymore, his lips twitching as if he wished to say something, something important… but forbidden. What could it be? What was it making him so nervous? What terrible secret did he held
I was sure now; Alckor… or whoever he was was hiding something, a secret that burdened his heart, a secret under which he was ending; a secret that he wanted to spill out but something was holding him from doing so.
So for now… unless he told us for me he couldn't be trusted. To my own relief I noticed Kyle looking at him the same way I did. However his own facial expression was much easier to decipher. Perhaps it was because of it that Alckor turned away; because of the heavy glare trying to expose him to daylight. Without me noticing my hand found Kyle's own, our fingers mingling out of pure habits; his tension unmistakable in the way he immediately clutched my hand. At least I wasn’t alone having doubts. I hoped'… someone else… someone Kyo would listen was aware of it.
I tried to listen more carefully. Kyo had stepped closer, whispering something in Ace's ear. I didn't have to hear it to know exactly what he just said; Ace becoming redder than a tomato, his dragon-like eyes going nuts, looking desperately in all directions in a display of pure embarrassment. Kyo is so damn good at that, leading people into situation where they can only be embarrassed, all their dirty little secrets exposed in broad daylight for his own twisted pleasure. "As lewd as always." I let out in a low whisper. "You bet…" grumbled Kyle, arms crossed. "Why was I hoping it wouldn't go down that way." sighed Tarken in a mimic of pure obviousness. "It's Kyo after all." I let out, looking up "always naughty." "Yes… always defying all common sense with how horny he is." grunts Tarken. "You're no better Tarken." immediately spat Kyle. "Oh… at least a bit better…" snorted Tarken, a light reddish hue tainting his green scales. "No you aren't! Or perhaps you want me to count some of your naughty times?" retorted Kyle. "No… thanks. I'd rather keep that for myself." he purred, his lips curling in a devious smile. "Horny dragons." he huffed. I looked at Ace again, his face devoured by nervousness; his dragon puzzled by the look on his friend's face, emitting low quizzical warbles every now and then. Whatever Kyo was asking him it surely was of private matters; things that shouldn't have been spoken out loud in a public place. "Kyo Kyo Kyo… why must you always be that curious?" I let out in disbelief, my hopes of seeing him be more serious shattered. I threw a quick look to the side, to Alckor. He too was listening, an interrogative expression on his face, a sly smile at the corner of his lips.
Suddenly, out of nowhere his eyes widened, his lower jaw dropping in shock; his tail stopping its slow wagging to go to a stand still position. All the colors left his face, while his focus shifted from the conversation to Kyo himself; staring at his brother intensely a mix of terror and disbelief filling his. His maw gaped open, feeble noises coming out, as if he was trying his hardest to speak but nothing came out. For an unknown reason he looked frightened, terrified. By what? I don't know but I was sure we would all find out very soon.
He gulped down heavily, taking a long deep breath, these same fumes slithering out of his maw. Then, he took a step forward, keeping his eyes on something far behind Ace. I tried to follow his gaze, noticing a painting in a gold frame. For me it didn't look like much but for an inexplicable reason it had attracted his attention like light for a bug. Yet the way he walked was awkward, he was keeping his claws up in a probably uncomfortable position, making sure they wouldn’t make any noise on the ground. His wings were tucked against his flanks, his tail hanging low, he even lowered his snout. What was he up to? I followed him, watching as he went by Kyo, then Ace, both of them too busy to notice him. He kept going until he was behind them. Once he was there he froze, his eyes slowly moving from the painting to Ace’s back. What was he trying to do? He looked so nervous, as if he apprehending what he was about to do. Heavy drops of sweat dripped from his face, his breathing ragged and irregular, his paws trembling. What was he planning?
………
Ace
"Come on don't be shy! You know you can tell me everything!" exclaimed Kyo; a bit too curious to my taste. My face was a burning inferno, my mind a mess of racing thoughts crashing together in one indescribable chaos, a disturbance Skye waas the first to sense, his small snout poking at my chin, rubbing and licking my sensitive skin, his worried warbles echoing in my ears. "Kyo you're weird sometime you know?" "Whatever. Come on tell me!" he urged me "you did it?" "Did what?" "You know exactly what I'm talking about." he purred, a devious grin plastered across his face, his eyebrow rising meaningfully. He was waiting, impatient to hear me; craving to no every detail; mostly the unspeakable ones. "So… have you done it or what?" "Well…" "Come on don't be shy, there is no shame talking about it. We all went through our first time once in our life."
My blush deepened, a feeling I didn't understand gripping my heart; that felt like frustration building inside me. I can't deny it; I have been dreaming, fantasizing about it to points I couldn't tell to anyone. I wished for more than our kisses during our short but intense meetings; I wanted more, to actually feel him, to touch him, to actually see him without his clothes. I had attempted to imagine him naked but the results were always disappointing, far below reality. We had never spent a night together. Well… actually… one night he slipped in my room to plant a loving kiss on my lips and wish me happy dreams. Sadly he had been seen which had quickly become the main conversation subject for days; the prince sneaking in the servant’s quarter, even more in the one of another man. That was astounding and… well shocking for those highly ranked brats he was rubbing elbows with everyday. Due to that he never came back to my room at night. Yet I still wished for it to happen; I only desired to feel the warmth of his body pressed against mine as I would give in his caring embrace. I wanted that presence in my bed; I wanted to wake up every morning met by the sight of his peaceful, sleeping face. That would be so divine, a permanent heaven. Yet it was still a dream… for now at least. However sometime dreams took over reality, shadowing the rest, and in these moments I would find myself waking up with a start holding in my arms, close to my chest a little scale ball who didn’t seem to mind the affection at all, purring and cooing in delight. Not that I was complaining but… yes I wanted more than just a few gentle words whispered in my ears and a few affectionate kisses here and there.
Kyo had a way to get what he wanted, straight to the point, no detour, just a blunt question asking for an immediate answer. Sex… with the prince. The thought sounded so sweet, my groin tingling in excitement. To be frank I hadn't really thought about it; I knew… if our relationship was serious enough it would eventually come but I was in no hurry to experiment the thing, neither to rush things yet it was an appealing idea to have that so handsome face hovering over me, a quick ragged breathing filling my ears, our bodies pressed against one another, our skin caressing as he would…. I shook my head; it was no time to give in these fantasies… even more since it seemed to amuse Kyo to see me struggle with my own ragging desires; desires he had awaken with a scaring ease. "So… have you… closed the gas?" "No I didn't." I finally replied, almost spitting the words to his face. "Oh… that's… disappointing…" he sighed. "We aren't all sex-craving dragons like you Kyo." shouted Allen. "I couldn't agree more." I added, nodding in approval. "Maybe… but you can't deny you want it." he hushed in a honeyed tone. In a flash my blush had deepened, my whole face turning a deep crimson red. "Well…" I mumbled, scratching the back of my head, trying with all my might to not lose all my composure. "Come on… admit it you can't wait for it." I looked away, loosing myself in the contemplation of a curtain, feeling KYo's gaze still glued to me, waiting for my answer.
Gathering all my courage I stared at him, not turning away when I saw that hint of malice in his blue eyes. "I am not in a hurry; I'd rather enjoy every second with him„," "Very well…it is a decision I respect." he let out, smiling, showing an astonishing understanding. "But… are you sure you are not… even a tiny bit… curious… or should I say eager?" he let out, that same deviousness striking again. "About what?" I growled in defiance. "Kyo!" warned Tarken in the back ground, showing the first signs of his irritation. "Chill out." only let out Kyo, not giving a damn about his mate's growing anger "I'm only saying that you may be more… eager than you are pretending." he chuckled. "What are you implying?" "Oh… nothing… just that… it's only a supposition." "I don't like the sound of it." sighed Tarken. "Me too." I whispered, exchanging a nervous look with Skye, apprehending what dirty idea had slithered in Kyo's mind. "Can everyone stop thinking everything I say has a double sense?!" roared Kyo; seemingly pissed off. "It's because you are a dirty-minded dragon Kyo, everyone knows that." exclaimed someone; an unknown voice; coming from?
I tensed, sensing something, a danger, a form standing right behind me. Only now did I smell his breath, a putrid stench that carried stenches of rotten things and other disgusting odors I didn't wish to know about caressing my shoulders. I felt his gaze on my back intense, evil, pull of twisted ideas. Adrenaline filled my being, rushing through my veins, sanding alarm signals to every part of my body. I didn't know what it was neither where it came from but it was wild, untamed, an unknown instinct kicking in when I most needed it. In an instant what I sensed became more precise; I could make out exactly where he was, the thing's size, the length of his claws, his bulky frame standing right behind me. I… I could even feel the might in his muscles, the power flowing inside him. And, on top of that I sensed darkness, an all-devouring obscurity surrounding him, pouring from his very frame. Skye's tiny claw dug in my shoulder, fear surging in my head, his little frame shivering in fright. He felt it tO, thee danger closing in, feasting it's eyes on us from it's privileged position. Trembling, sweating I turned around, my hands uncontrollably shaking. My face turned a livid white, my eyes bursting wide open, my mouth gaping even wider on a blank cry. Panic floods my mind, not mine, but the terror coming from a younger, more easily impressed than mine.
Skye let out a low squeak, nudging himself against me in a scared manner; begging for me to protect him. I… I couldn't believe what my eyes showed me; it was… it could only be described as a monster, a walking nightmare all in claws and fangs, dressed in shiny black scales, staring at me with inhuman purple eyes full of malice and evilness. "H-h-hel-hello…" it let out in a strangely high pitched voice, his tone unsure, trembling with… timidity; full of… gentleness; as if he was trying to look and sound kinder than his bone-chilling look let think. Yet I had no time to wonder any longer as a shadow crossed my sight, a large blue thing latching onto my face.
In an instant I found myself staggering back, my whole face pressed against a smooth scaly surface glued to me. I didn't have to see the blue scales to know who it was. "Skye quit it!" I grumbled, my call muffed by his scales. Gripping his flanks I try to remove him from my face but he holds tight, shivering, squeaking pleadingly, sending pure panicky in my already emotion-crowded head., begging me to protect him from the evil monster "Skye get out of my face!" I roared, tugging at him but his claws were firmly latched around me; not to the point of hurting me but enough to force me in some sort of hug. "Skye… as sticky and adorable as always." chuckled Kyo. "Oh no… I think I scared him…" mumbled the thing, embarrassed. I could ear his apologies; the regrets peaking in his tone but I had more urgent things to take care of. I loosened my grip, letting my fingers rub his sensitive scales, tracing small circles, finding sensitive nubs to fondle. Slowly; ever so slowly the tight embrace of claws vanished as he let himself slip down. Cradling him n my arms I whispered soft words in his ear, oblivious to the world around us, trying to appease him with all the means I knew. Yet everything I did didn’t seem to be enough to calm the ragged beating of his heart, his quickened breath; his eyes always drifting away from me, focusing on something else.
"I'm… I'm awfully sorry… I didn't mean to scare you." whispered a voice. Instinctively I look up, tensing alas I discover who was talking. It was the same dragon-like monstrosity who came closer, laying it's glowing purple eyes upon Skye's still shivering frame, overtaken by animalistic fear. After all they were reasons to be afraid; this… thing whatever it was looked like a predator eying its helpless prey. I threw him a hateful glare, watching as he backed away, bowing his head down in apology. Skye growled, baring his fangs, bluish flames spurting from his maw as he glared menacingly at the thing. "Just… what the hell is that thing!?" I roared, causing it to back away, yelping in surprise while I pointed a finger in its direction. "That thing as you call it is my brother." growled Kyo in displeasure. "Say that again? He… is your brother!" I gasped, staring at Kyo in disbelief, searching for any trace of joking in his expression but from the look on his face I knew he wasn't kidding. I turned my attention to him. Kyo's brother… damn… it was… unbelievable! I didn't even know he had a brother! Actually he only rarely mentioned his past. I observed him with more attention, trying my hardest to find even the slightest hint of resemblance between the two of them but I didn’t find any that could back up that information; there was no similarity between the two males. "Hi…” mumbled Kyo's brother. "Hello" I replied reluctantly. "Come on don't be shy." encouraged Kyo behind me, shoving me forward with his snout "don't be afraid; he's all barks and no bites." "Hey that's false! I don't even bark!" yelped his brother, looking offended "I'm the nicest guy around." he added, throwing a meaningful look at Kyo. "Why do I have troubles believing that?" I sighed, Skye warbling approvingly in my arms. "Look… I… I didn't mean to scare you… in fact I just scared myself even more than I did scare him. " he exclaimed, his lips twisting in what could be assumed as a smile "To be completely honest with you I didn't want to frighten neither you or… eh… Skye is that it?" "Yes…" I let out on the defensive. "A very… fitting name" he let out, his smile growing more sincere, his gaze softening as he took confidence. "Actually it was Kyo's idea… not mine." he shushed, glancing at his older brother. "Admit you enjoyed it." snorted Kyo, looking down at us.
"So it was you! What was the purpose of that?" I roared, balling my fists. "I'll explain myself soon but first… I think it would be more appropriate for my brother to introduce himself to you… more formally I mean." "Whatever" I let out pretty pissed of "besides how did you even plan that?" "Just like you do with Skye, we speak in each other's mind." Humph… makes sense." I grunted. "Anyway… my name is Alckor and it's a pleasure to meet you… both of you." let out Kyo's brother, bowing his head down in respect before extending a clawed scaly paw in my direction. I took a step back, staring at the long white razor-sharp appendages ending his toes not looking inviting at all. He froze, his claws nervously curling and uncurling the position probably a bit uncomfortable for him. His eyes went from his open paw to me, then back to his paw, as if he was trying to tell me something. "What are you trying to do?" "Well er… I… I heard somewhere that among humans it's a custom to shake hands to salute."
I burst into laughter under Alckor's puzzled gaze, his paw pulling away in a mix of nervousness and anxiety. "What did I say?" "Nothing nothing… it's just… you don't have to bend to silly customs to say hi." "Oh… I thought…" "That only applies to human; just say hi the way you want." "I see…" "Although if you insist." Without further hesitation I grabbed his paw in mine.
Instinctively I felt him tense, his muscles stiffening like ropes for a split second before lowly appeasing, his claws gently holding my hand, applying the right amount of pressure. His scales were warm, smooth, slick, like they were forming a shell around him. Yet, as my skin made contact with his scaly hide, sending shivers everywhere inside me; I sensed something else; something I never felt before. It was indescribable; the strangest, most awkward thing I ever felt but it… it felt nice all the same. It was… like a river, a river streaming beneath his scales, flowing in his bulging veins; a dark power coursing inside him through a vast network. I sensed the might pounding inside him, the sheer strength inside him, skin-deep, so close I could almost feel it physically. Yet before I could investigate deeper he abruptly pulled away; breaking that strange but fascinating, almost magic contact. "Anyway Kyo what did you want to prove with that?" grunted an angry Tarken. "I'll start with a question; a very simple one, you felt him didn’t you? I mean, before he busted himself out." "Well… a bit…" "But what did yu sense?" "Something beahind me." "Anything else?" "Well I felt uncomfortable… as if someone was spying on me; or rather observing me from afar." "Anything else?" "Nothing." I replied, puzzled by the sudden avalanche of questions. "Are you sure?" "Y-yes… I suppose." "Didn't you feel like… in danger, like something was lurking in the shadows behind you, waiting for you to lower your guard to lash out on you." murmured Kyo, his deep voice sending chills of fear down my spine, my hairs stand "I swear it wasn’t my intention at all!" shouted Alckor, intervening in the conversation, his face twisted with sorrow and regrets "I know I look scary and all but… I never hurt someone." he squeaked shyly now that the attention was onto him. "What I'm trying to say is that, some of your senses have been enhanced by Skye's gift." "I don't think so." I let out, watch,ng Kyo's face decompose "I could already do that before; I could sense things around me." "Nice job you ruined his whole theory!" sniggered Alckor, giggling noisily behind me.
"Not quite; it only confirms what I thought." chuckled Kyo, smiling toothily "Your bonding with Slye improved senses you already had and gifted you with new ones." he explained "some you might not even know about yet. Also… you may not realize it yet but I bet you will soon have unknown urges kicking in." he let out, lewdly winking. "Kyo that’s enough!" roared Tarkean, coming closer, darting angry eyes at his mate "I knew I should have stopped you sooner you naughty drake." he growled, roughly shoving Kyo away "apologies for that Ace." "Don't worry; I’m starting to gat used to it." I let out, not letting an emotion transpire. "It doesn’t make any sense at all." mumbled a voice behind me. I turned around, meat with the sight of Alckor's bulky snout, his gaze wandering away in the distance, seemingly lost in deep thoughts. "It's not because he has dragon eyes that he'll have something like a draconian libido. No… definitely not… it's just… a… a… silly idea." he gasped, finally noticing me, the blush covering his face deepening with each word. "Glad to hear there is someone smarter than the rest here." I let out, warmly smiling, gently patting his forehead, earning a puzzled look and an even brighter red hue creeping over his black scales. "Thanks…" he mumbled, evading the affection once again, as if he didn't want to be touched. For a long minute I tried to look at him directly but every attempt remained unsuccessful, every time he would avoid direct eye contact. Why? Was I making him uncomfortable? Or was there something else about him I didn't know? Finally our eyes met; a short but intense stare. I felt like diving deep inside him, delving in the depth of his very soul. Now I was certain he was holding back. What? I didn't know but it seemed dangerous enough to prevent him from being too affectionate with others. "He… he is…very cute." he let out in a barely audible whisper. "What… er… yes… he… he is…" I replied, surprised, taking a few seconds to understand what he was talking about. Following his gaze I noticed he was looking at Skye, a tiny smile enlightening his traits.
"But don't let that fool you he is clever like no other." " I don't doubt that." he chuckled "he'll be strong I can feel it." "Yes… everyone keeps telling me that." I let out, tired of hearing the same thing over and over again. .Damn… look at him he is so adorable… I wanna hug him so bad." chirped Alckor, eyes filled with glee, his purples irises sparkling with amusement. Incapable of waiting any longer he reached forward with one of his clawed paw; a broad smile illuminating his otherwise shady face. But, as be was about to reach his mark, his claws a mere inch away from Skye's pristine scales he abruptly froze, Skye backing away, afraid by the sight of these sharp talons so close to him. I have to admit I wasn’t feeling very confident in the way Alckor approached, like he was trying so stab him more than caress him. Skye let out a pitiful squeak, unfurling his wings, ready to leap for the skies if Alckor dared to come closer. The black dragon's face decomposed, his paw trembling, his snout lowering in a mix of embarrassment and confusion. "I'm… I'm sorry… should have asked firs" he sighed, throwing me an apologetic glance "do… do you allow me to touch him? I mean… to rub him?" His expression was utterly disarming, an heartbreaking plea to be allowed near my dragon; his paw ready to pull away if I refused. "Sure but don't do it like this." I replied with a warm smile "try like this instead." I suggesting, guiding him in a more harmless approach, offering him a helpful hand. Still I sensed the tension, his muscles, cables tensed beneath his scales, ready to pull his limb away. What was making him so anxious? Why was he on edge like this? "Hey relax a bit would you." I whispered, fondling his forehead. "Sorry… it's just… I've never been around kids so… I don't want to hurt him.… Gosh he looks so small and fragile." "You won't say that when he'll breath fire in your face." I chuckled. "He can?" "He does but I'm sure he won't? Will you Skye?" I enquired, only getting an innocent look in answer. "I guess that means you're safe."
He nodded, nervousness causing him to uncontrollably tremble as, under my guidance he resumed advancing toward Skye, this time his palm exposed rather than his claws. Skye seemed to calm down, curiously poking at the scaly palm, sniffing with obvious interest, eyes glinting with malice. "It tickles" chirped Alckor, jiggling when Skye's tongue gave a long lick to his scales, his claws curling under the affection. “I think he likes you!” I let out, watching Skye nuzzle and grind his snout against the paw. "Go ahead don't be shy." I encouraged Alckor who remained surprisingly still.
Kneeling before him I try to offer a better angle, his still shivering paw rubbing Skye's forehead, eliciting low purrs from the dragonet who answered to the affection by grinding himself with renewed vigor; not leaving a single second to Alckor, demanding more and more. "He likes that." noted Alckor, shyly smirking. "He loves rub." I approved, giving Alckor's chin a gentle rub, feeling him shudder in delight "like you do."
He kept silent, focused entirely on Skye, devouring him with his hungry eyes; his paws tickling Skye's chest, his ears perked to catch every sound that came out of his maw, long purrs humming in his throat. "Look at you… so adorable… so playful, so full of energy… I suppose ha doesn't leave you time for yourself." "Nope, not even a second." "I'm not surprised; e looks to be very occupying… but in the meantime he seems to be much attached to you… caring even." "Yes… we never leave each other's side and when we can’t we are always in contact. We're never far actually." "Damn… look at that cute little face." cooed Alckor, giving little interest to what I was saying "you're absolutely irresistible… I bet everyone is falling for you aren’t they? I know I definitely am." he whispered, an almost stupid expression glued to his face as he rubbed and flattered Skye even more, the blue dragon apparently not satisfied yet, offering himself for even more rubs. Finally, after several endless minutes of blabbers and fondling Alckor seemed to come down from his little heaven, his face recovering his usual serious and distant expression. Well… usual… that was saying it was the only side I knew of him, a shy and distant young male. "You… you're lucky to have each other." he sighed, his voice suddenly full of sorrow, a sadness that seemed to come out of nowhere, his eyes glinting while they filled with tears. "Why are you saying that?" "Well… look at you… look at him… you care for each other; you're here for the other when he most needs it. He is protecting you… and I'm sure you will soon." It's not easy every day but yes… I guess we both found each other through that whole ordeal." I replied, his words managing to start a small fire in my heart, a fire that seamed to never fade away.
"I envy you…" he let out, his voice a broken whine, tuning his snout away, his whole frame quaking as Skye let out a quizzical warble, worried for his newfound friend. "Hey what's wrong?" I asked, frightened. "Did I say something wrong?" "No… no it's not you…" he replied, sniffing noisily, trying to hide the tears building up in his eyes "It's just… I wish my rider could be more like you." he mumbled, his voice so broken by the heavy sobs shaking him. I had troubles hearing the last words, his paw still idly rubbing Skye's snout, a tiny tongue dashing out of his maw to lick at the scales ahead of him.
Pain burst in my head, a blue light flashing before my eyes, igniting the tiny gap between Skye and Alckor, my sight blurring, my brain going numb, pain flooding my system, a wild fire spreading in my flesh, boiling feeling overshadowing the rest; turning my muscles to goo as it blazed inside me, taking my forces, my very soul away. It was… weird… as if someone or something was sucking me away out of my own body, draining my spirit out of it's cocoon of flesh and blood. But… as unexpectedly as it started it was all over in the blink of an eye; the blue glow disappearing as the contact was broken. The pain subsided, only leaving the dull ache of my back, loud cries of pain echoing in my head, more suffering pouring in my half knocked out brain, blood pounding at my ears, my whole body throbbing with pain, a dolor that wasn't mine; the sheer amount of suffering keeping me flat on the floor, grimacing and whimpering. "Skye…" I managed to mumble, looking everywhere for the source of the heart-breaking calls of my dragon. My eyes are still a blur, color blending together, forms twisting to absurd shapes endlessly shifting. I couldn’t rely on what I saw, my new eyes useless in this situation. I tried my hardest to listen, to use all my other senses to pinpoint Skye's location but even that gave me nothing; every sound I heard was amplified a thousand times, bouncing in my ears, muffed by a loud whistle that wouldn't stop. Once again I was blinded, helpless, deaf to the world around me but one sound remained, Skye's calls, a beacon in the darkness, desperate shrieks of pain. He was calling for me… but I didn't know where he was, neither what was happening. I could hear voices shouting around me, speaking foreign words, so twisted I couldn't identify any of them. "Skye… where are you buddy…" I mumbled, still trying to find him in my state of half consciousness. I kept wandering, trying to see a damn thing in that colorful nightmare, the edges of my vision darkening, the rest becoming even more hazy, everything vanishing in a thickening fog. No… it's not the time to faint… not now… not when Skye is in danger.
I try to move, something holds me in place, a massive bulky black figure standing over me, staring down at the mess I am. The darkness in my eyes spreads further; taking more space in my vision. I feel my forces living me, drained away. Is that it? Is it what it feels like? Is it the end already?
Yet, as the darkness finally swallow what's before me, shrouding the world in blackness I feel strangely calm, appeased, the deafening noises halting, the pain subsiding, leaving me feeling nothing. Was it what it looked like? Death? I threw a look around, still dazed but feeling better. Everything around me was black, cold, lifeless. Well… actually not that black… more like grayish; the taint of stone. "The hell is that…" I mumbled, disturbed by what I was seeing. Everything was that same grey color. Everything… not exactly, some… things were white, pounding with energy, some flying in the air, slithering in the grey, standing still… or rather floating from my point of view. "What's happening? Am I going insane?" I let out, puzzled and astonished by what my eyes were showing me, as if an entirely different world had unveiled itself to me. To my own disbelief I found myself standing up; my legs not giving under me; all my strength recovered in a flash. I took a gander at my surroundings, noticing everything was that same grey color. The whole corridor the same anthracite grey vanishing in the distance, a colorless mist. However there was something sticking out of the endless grey, tall elongated shapes dressed in vivid colors next to them stood two smaller things as colorful as the rest. One was hovering between white and red a color that reminded me of a fire; the second one was absolutely blinding, a shimmering white light attracting my gaze like a magnet; carrying something reassuring; a beacon in darkness to guide the lost ones. My gaze went up, fixating to the two taller shapes, one was a vivid green, a shade I had never seen before. The other one was… much stranger… hovering between a deep blue color crossed by tiny grayish lines and an impenetrable blackness, the two so deeply intertwined it was hard to tell what was the dominant side. Suddenly, out of nowhere the black part started to separate, coiling around the blue frame, forming like a second entity, a snake slithering around the other being, staring at me with burning crimson red orbs in a mix of surprise and disbelief, as if it wasn't expecting me to see it. I turned away, not daring to stand that piercing glare. I took a step back, a blank cry stuck in my throat, my eyes falling on yet another creature I hadn't noticed before; a black hole swallowing all light, radiating with evil power, darkness pouring out of him, infecting the very air around it with its vile curse, forming a dark pounding aura around it. Nevertheless there was something off with it, like aa sparkle roaming inside him, radiant blue fireflies making their way through the darkness, causing little disturbances wherever they went. But even the thing's stance was awkward, it seemed to shiver, it's obscure body crumbling upon itself. It was as if it was… afraid, scared… but by what… or by whom?
I followed his gaze, discovering a blue ball lying on the ground a few feet away from him, sending echo-like waves around it. It was so small compared to the rest yet I still felt attracted to it, like it was calling for me. For unknown reasons I felt drawn toward it; as if I was linked to it. I felt myself walking, like hovering a few inches over ground level, slowly reaching for it. One step, I was next to it; two steps I was kneeling next to it, my hands cupping the little form, finding it to be more physical than I thought, feeling heavy and warm in my hands.
My vision shifted once again colors coming back in the blink of an eye, revealing the unmistakable blue dragon cradled in my open palms; whining and whimpering, letting himself be carried away. I stumbled forward, still dazed by that brutal shift; Skye both mildly and physically nudging himself closer for a hug. I cuddled him, rocking back and forth, trying my best to calm his heavy sobs. His eyes rose from the ball his body was, peaking up from the blue scales, squeaking, cheeks drenched in tears. "I'm here Skye… I'm here." I let out, holding him close to my chest, slowly rubbing the back of his head, listening to his relieved purrs as he nuzzled and hugged my cheats, glad I was hare. Although I didn't understand what just happened I felt relieved to be close to him again. "Ace are you alright?" asked Allen, landing a hand on my shoulder. I'm fine… I guess." I mumbled, cradling Skye, oblivious to the outside world. "Dude you phased out for like a minute!" shouted Kyle "you were walking like a zombie!" "And your eyes were glowing." added Allen, worry peaking in his voice. "That was kind of creepy." approved Tarken. "Is Skye alright?" enquired Kyo, peaking over my shoulder. "Yes… I think he's fine." I replied, observing him, looking for traces of wounds on his scales. But there was nothing, no cuts, no long jagged laceration caused by claws; no punctures, signs of a biting, no gashes, no bruises, not even a drop of blood stained the perfect blue of his scales; not even a cut came disturbing the harmony of his perfect pristine scales. So why was he shaking and crying? Why was he in such a pain? His suffering still pouring in my poor head, causing my legs to wobble under me. Or… or was he hurt in ways I couldn't see? I recalled what I saw when my sight so weirdly shifted without reason; the black monster shrouded in obscurity, leaking even more from his very scales. I knew now that what I saw was Alckor… a different side of him. Even though I didn't quite understand what occurred I was certain I had identified all the colored forms I had seen; Kyo, Tarken, Allen and Kyle. My mind was racing with thoughts, some about Skye and other about what happened to me. My tongue was burning to spill it all out, to tell them what I saw; to ask them for help in understanding what I saw. At that precise moment I needed their lights on that awkward instant… but before that I had to know what was causing Skye's pain. All my body ached in time with my dragon; my guts burning. What could it be? Poison? A curse? A spell? No it didn't make any sense, why would Alcoor purposely harm my dragon? Although that would explain why he was staring at his own raised paw with such intensity yet it wasn't making any sense at all!
"Alckor what have you done?" growled Kyo; darting an angry glare at his brother; faster than me to ask the very same question. He had probably seen it happen too. After all his gaze hadn't left me all along. "N… n-n-no-nothing!" stammered the young black dragon; as scared as me if not more. Shock and fear were twisting his traits; his paws trembling; hi eyes going wild in sheer incomprehension trying to make sense of the situation. "Alckor!" rumbled Kyo; his voice deepening; sending wild shivers down my spine. This voice… I had never heard anything like it; unnaturally deep; tainted with something I could only describe as inhuman; urging me to run for cover. I turned around; discovering Kyo's scales strangely glimmering; shining with an unusual glow, his eyes burning with anger turning to a crimson blood red, the exact same hue I had seen before in my "vision". "I… I swear… I-I I did nothing!" yelped Alckor; backing away in fear; crouching low under the fierce gaze homed on him. "I'm… I'm sorry" he squeaked pitifully; not daring to look at me directly; preferring to watch his own claws in shame. Slowly… ever so slowly Skye seemed to calm down; his overwhelming pain becoming a dull ache tugging at the back of my head; his snout raising from the tight ball his body was forming; glinting blue eyes staring at me with malice. He seemed completely fine. Had he been acting? Pretending to be wounded to get all the attention?
"Excuse me." Called a voice; interrupting me in my line of thoughts. All the eyes turned toward the man standing at the corner of the corridor; looking visibly impressed and embarrassed to disturb. By the look of his clothes he was a servant. "I am terribly sorry to interrupt you sire dragon riders but the emperor is requesting you now." "We are coming." Answered Allen. "Just leave us five minutes to sort things out here." Grumbled Kyle. "I think it won't be possible sire; the emperor is becoming very impatient and if you don't come with me now I'm afraid he will call the guards and they are much less polite than me." "Fine; we are coming." Growled Kyo, exasperated. "Sorry for keeping you there." I apologized politely. "It's not your fault; we wanted to see you anyway." He let out; disappointed. "Guess our duties call for us." Sighed Allen. "That's too bad." I let out; caressing Skye's head who looked at the other dragons in disappointment. "Come on guys let's go." Grunted Kyo; stepping toward the man waiting for them. I watched them go one by one; dragons walking over him, addressing him a sorry smile; Allen and Kyle passing by with a quick goodbye. Only Alckor was left; standing still; observing me, his eyes going from his brother back to me; hesitant; his lips twitching as if he wanted to say something. He took a step forward toward me; his claws clicking on the stone floor, his tail nervously swishing behind me; his wings folded against his flanks. Skye hissed; blue flames slipping between his bared fangs. The warning was obvious and Alckor obeyed; backing away. "I… I…" "Get lost." I spat. "Alckor let's go!" commanded Kyo in a firm tone. Alckor's snout dropped low; throwing us a last pleading glance as he left; tail hanging low. He stopped; turning back toward us "I'm sorry." He let out in a barely audible squeak; running away; leaving us alone in the now silent corridor.
………
Kyo
Before us the doors were opened; the same gate we had already passed through once. I only knew too well what was beyond; the immense meeting room where we had been introduced to the emperor's generals and government. Around that very table we had counted our story and drawn the outlines of the attack plan. Yet at that precise moment I couldn't focus on the task ahead of us; still boiling, my jaws clenched shut on a deep growl. Anger like a burning acid flowing inside my veins; keeping my mind away from this so important matter; the fate of my kind. I could only think about what I had just witnessed; a sight that made me so angry but puzzled me all the same. Next to me I sensed Alckor's presence, running to keep up with the rapid pace; keeping silence; eyes turned toward the carpet. The tension inside him was visible; I could see he had something to say; something that weighted heavily on his heart. I'm certain his only desire was to run back to Ace and Skye and repair his mistake but he kept following me all the same; not daring to trigger my wrath. Yet guilt was painted on his face; filling eyes with tears he could barely contain; throwing worried looks behind his back. "Welcome sire; the emperor is waiting for you." Saluted another servant; bowing before us. However… one thing I couldn't deny was that it had a quite interesting side effect; whatever my little brother did it allowed us to discover something. I recalled the cold shiver that ran down my spine when I saw these two blue dragon eyes glowing; radiating with magic as they fell on me. "He saw us." Whispered Kaos; nudging himself closer to me; wrapping his coils around me in some sort of… hug. "Are you scared?" I chuckled; amused by the old demon's behavior; anxiety transpiring from him. "No… I'm not…" he let out loosening his grip around me. "You are." I sniggered; feeling the surprised gaze glued to my scales. "Well… I wasn't expecting to be… discovered… otherwise I would have been more on edge." "It was a surprise." I admitted; as surprised as he was "I wasn't expecting him to have such abilities." "Me neither but… damn he fucking saw me!" exploded Kaos; tightening himself around me in nervousness. "Chill out I think he didn't even understand what he saw." I let out; bothered by something else. "Kyo… don't be so upset." Let out Kaos. In the back of my head I felt someone else agreeing. "Allen could you not listen to this please?" "Nope I don't want to miss a single word of what you say now." "Are you certain you want to know everything I say and think?" I giggled deviously. "Yes; no more secret." He mentally shouted. "Fair enough." I chuckled; focusing my mind entirely on one thing; a wide toothy smile plastered across my face. "Kyo you're gross!" he yelled; looking the other way; his face reddening rapidly. "You said everything!" I shouted; bursting in laughter, maliciously grinning. "Hmm hmm… Kyo it's not the time to think about this." Mumbled a familiar voice. At first I thought it was Kaos; his demonic lust awakened by the lewd picture I had send to Allen until I noticed Tarken's green cheeks turning red. "Sorry Tarken… I forgot." I apologized, blushing in turn, my slit tingling with arousal; stirring my instincts to life; a sweet potent musk filling the air. The thought lingering in my head; the image of Tarken's twin cocks steadily dripping down as my tongue wrapped around them; ready to give him one hell of a blowjob. "Naughty drakes." Huffed Kyle; the only one staying apparently stoic. "Thanks a lot Kyo." Grumbled Tarken. "Don't worry I'll give it to you soon enough." I purred. "Anyway Kyo… I… I know what you're thinking but it was to be expected." Let out Kaos. "What are you saying?" I growled. "Kyo… your brother is… he is a white dragon; you know he can absorb energy from whatever is around him." "And what?" "I think… and I'm sure you know as well what happened." "What do you mean?" I let out, acknowledging his words without understanding them. "If he doesn't control his powers… you know what could happen." "But he does." I growled; annoyed "he drained the excess energy inside me with ease." "Let me ask you something. To what extent do you think he masters his powers?" "I I don't know." I mumbled; taken by surprise; throwing a quick glance to my brother. "With all the energy pouring out of you back then it was fairly easy to harvest it… but you know like me by a single touch he could drain someone dry and I fear… it's what almost happened." He sighed; silently observing my brother with a look of suspicion. "But… he…" "He took some of Skye's energy away; maybe not much but that needs to be clarified… before he kills someone." "You're right…" I let out; realizing that I had stopped in the middle of a corridor; observed by a few pairs of wondering eyes. Only one was not focused on me. "What's wrong Kyo?" enquired Allen, caressing my scales. "Let's leave these two alone." Suggested Tarken; carrying the two humans away. I threw him a grateful glance; receiving a look that meant "You'd better hurry.".
"Alckor!" I called, stopping him in his tracks. "Yes…" he squeaked; snout still hanging low. "We need to talk… now…" I growled; "Yes… I know…" he mumbled; turning around to face me; tears rolling down his cheeks. "What have you done?" I let out; sitting in the middle of the corridor; inviting him to do so; careless about the guards observing us with curiosity. Alckor hesitated; shifting on his paws; looking around him before obeying, facing me. "Alckor." I let out; determined to bring light on what happened. "I-I didn't want." He sobbed "It… it was… it was an accident." He squeaked pitifully. "I know." I whispered softly; caressing his flank with a gentle paw; knowing where to rub to reassure him. "I… I lost control…" he added; hiccupping loudly "I swear I didn't want to harm him." "It's alright Alckor." I let out; trying to comfort him; not quite capable to hide my growing apprehension. Could he… without wanting to, absorb my energy? I wasn't sure anymore. "I… I never wanted to do it…. I lost my focus for… barely a second and… it… it happened." He explained, sniffing and sobbing; a constant stream of tears wetting the carpet. "What did you take exactly?" I sighed. "Almost nothing… but I sensed his pain." He whispered; clenching his paws, his claws tearing through the thick fluffy fabric. "Show it to me." I commanded. Alckor tensed, staring at the rich torn apart fabric where his claws had shredded it to pieces. "I… I can't." he stated; vigorously shaking his head. "Alckor…" I hissed. I knew the fact of pressing him like this wouldn't help but we didn't have much time ahead of us and; above all I needed to see it. He only made a quiet sigh; still negatively nodding his head; avoiding my stare; salty droplets falling from his trembling chin. "Alckor…" I sighed tiredly; draping a wing over him. At first he tensed; pulling away before coming back after a long moment of hesitation; letting the warmth of the broad blue membrane envelop him. He let himself go; leaning against my side; nuzzling my scales as I held him behind the protective shield of my wing; hiding him from the outside world. Tears were streaming down my flank; low whimpers reaching my ears, breaking my heart. I couldn't stand the idea of my brother crying but as much as I wanted to comfort him I knew he had to understand his mistake in order to learn from it. "Alckor; I won't hurt you… but you must show it to me if you want me to help you." "I can't…" he let out, his voice broken. "Alckor… I can't help you if you keep being so stubborn." "It's… It's not that…" he sniffed the words stuck in his throat "I… my only wish is to repair what I just did but…" he stopped in midsentence; the last words turning to feeble warbles. "But what Alckor?" I questioned insistently; urging him to speak it out loud. "I don't know how I did it!" he roared; breaking free from my grasp; spinning around like a tornado; his purple eyes blazing with frustration and anger finally finding mine. I sensed the energy inside; a dark pent up volcano about to erupt; to implode devastating everything in its path. I didn't move; didn't flinch; didn't try to stop him or to calm him; it had to come out and; as much as it hurt me I had no choice but to let it happen. I wanted with all the fibers of my being to hold him; to comfort him; to tell him it was alright and that we would take care of this another day but there was no doubt in my mind it had to be done now. "I never used these powers before!" he yelled, dark fumes puffing out of his gaping maw; his radiant purple eyes glowing like dark gems; energy pounding underneath his scales; ready to blow. "I never wanted to harm him… I just… lost control." "I know Alckor; I know." I whispered. "No Kyo you don't! I never wanted these powers… and I never controlled them. They always caused havoc around me… always." He spat; his voice pitching up and down with the tremors of fear; despair and regret shaking him. "You're right… I don't know how it is." I admitted "but I understand what you are feeling… I have my own… demons and they bothered me for quite some time when I didn't control them." "And you still don't" sniggered Kaos in my head. "I spend too much time fighting them instead of trying to understand them but now I'm learning… slowly but surely; the path is tricky but I'm trying with all my might to control them." "That's more like it." Approved Kaos; mentally nodding. Alckor had stopped to listen; nodding in agreement yet reluctance was still twisting his traits; holding him back. "Kyo… I hear you… but it's not the same." He sighed; taking a deep breathe before continuing "I knew… I had been told dragons like me were special… sadly I learned the true meaning of that word the hard way." He paused; shivering; painful memories rising to the surface "the first time it… sort of happened to me I was left no choice; it coursed through me… changed me forever. I mean look at what it did to me! Everyone sees me as a monster… a demon… and I thought the same way… before I met Skel and Tormis." He sobbed "Then… I never used them again… or at least I don't recall it… until I met you again. I had no choice but to use them… otherwise you would have squashed me down in that cold cell." "And I'm still sorry I was so blinded to see who you were." "It's not your fault; how could you know it was me?"
I looked down; crippled with regrets; still shaken by the fact I almost killed my little brother an hour or two ago; controlled by the rage that had filled me when his camouflage was removed. What if this whole ordeal hadn't occurred? What if his true nature had remained hidden to me? Would I have been more upset than I was? Probably. Would I have felt deceived; tricked? Most certainly.
"Look Kyo… my only desire right now is to… go see that guy again and… apologize and… fix this mess. If only I knew how to do it." He growled; his tail slamming in the hard ground; surprising the guards who flinched under their armors. Before my eyes Alckor was revealed; his true nature exposed; the scales and flesh removed; only leaving the corrupted power infusing his flesh; restlessly altering his body beyond what it had already done to him; dark energy pounding inside him with untamed might. A time bomb on the brink of explosion. "Kyo." Called a too familiar voice. "What now Kaos?" "Could you let me try something? I think I have an idea." "Can it help?" "It will, trust me." He replied with insurance. "And I suppose that means leaving you the control." "Just for a minute or so." He pleaded, nudging himself close to me. "Why do I feel like I'm gonna regret this?" I sighed; shaking my head in disbelief; stepping aside. "Thanks Kyo; you won't regret it I promise." He shushed; giving me one last thankful hug before I felt our intertwined spirits reverse; shoving me roughly in the passenger seat. I hated that feeling of helplessness; of being only a bystander watching the scene; mute and powerless in my own body. "It won't be long." Reassured Kaos; allowing me a minute to settle in my new place; seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling things like they were foreign things to me.
"Alckor… let me ask you a question." Spoke Kaos.
…………
Alckor
Shivers running down my spine; cold sweat replacing the tear; sadness turning to utter panic. That voice…. I want to run away, to escape the terrifying presence. I feel the power surging in the veins of the one I used to call my brother a mere second ago. Adrenaline shoots through my veins but my muscles turn to goo; my paws stuck to the ground; denying me the right to flea for my life. Trembling like a leaf I turn my attention toward Kyo; toward whatever has taken over him; my mind racing with panicked thoughts. Is it my fault? Did I say something wrong? Am I the cause of that sudden shift; of the rise of that… thing… that demon he is hosting inside him? Yet when I look at him I only discover the same strong but rather lean form; the exact same black and blue scaly hide; the same smiling face… with two crimson spheres burning where two reassuring blue eyes used to lay; bringing peace and warmth with their caring look where they now only seem to burn through my scales; exposing the cowering hatchling behind. I feel the blood draining from my face; my jaws falling on a silent cry; my eyes bulging wide. "Oh no…" I think, trying my hardest to move; to get out of his line of sight; to evade that intense stare but for some inexplicable reasons I can't stop looking back into these blazing orbs; like mesmerized by them; finding behind the horrifying first glance a hint of sympathy and care. "Don't be afraid Alckor; I won't do anything to you." Said the deep voice I only knew too well. Even though that otherworldly voice was giving me the creeps I couldn't deny there was something different from before; the tone was softer; more gentle and appeasing even if the voice still sounded like the rumbling of thunder. I didn't lower my guard though; standing my ground. "I just want to ask you a question; one simple question." It purred softly; the smile not as wicked and malicious as I thought. "G-G-go a-ahead." I gasped; trying to not lose my composure. "It must feel weird does it?" he whispered; his blazing red eyes scorching my scales. "What?" "Don't try to play the fool; you know what I'm talking about." I looked away; blushing profusely. "Don't be shy; no one is gonna judge you." "Yes…" I winced; avoiding that fierce glare. "Could you be a bit more precise?" let out the surprisingly kind voice. Be more precise; what did he mean? How could I even describe that to anyone? My muscles stiffened like stabbed by an electrical current; one of my paws clenching; claws curling of their own accord. When I tried to move it remained unresponsive; as if it had a mind of its own; deciding to go nuts for no reason. I took a deep breath, trying with all my might to take back the control but it wouldn't budge. "Alckor are you alright?" whispered a reassuring voice. My heart missed a beat, Kyo; it was Kyo I heard. How? How did he manage to sneak past my defenses so easily? "Your mind is no impenetrable fortress Alckor; although your defenses are strong they have their weaknesses; even more when you're distracted." He explained; wrapping himself around me; triggering light shivers throughout my whole body; eliciting a soft coo from my gaping mouth. "Go ahead Alckor; speak it out loud; don't keep it for yourself."
I sensed his warm presence coiled around me; washing away the fears; the reluctance; leaving me with one simple desire; tell them everything… not only about that unwanted harvest but about everything I kept for myself. "Does it tickle?" asked the demon. "Yes… but how?" I stammered; shocked. How does he know? "Don't be surprised" whispered Kyo; rubbing himself closer to me "he saw many things and has more knowledges than you can imagine." At that exact second the stiffness in my paw dissipated; my rogue limb finally answering to my commands. I shuddered; something quickly traveling up my leg; loosing itself in my chest; triggering tensions and shivers wherever it went; causing tiny disturbances to everything it touched. A wing extended and flapped a few time under its impulsion; my tail slamming in the ground; my slit tingling as if electricity was sparkling in my inner flesh. I wanted to scratch that pesky itch but the cause of my annoyance kept changing place all the' time. "You have no idea." I grunted; my jaws snapping involuntarily. "I know how you feel Alckor." He said; getting up and circling around me. Feeling that red-hot pair of eyes homed on me made me want to shrink to the size of an atom and run away to safety. A lone thought popped in my head; two smiling faces looking at me with loving expressions; a sight that made my heart sink. "Don't worry you'll be with them soon enough." Spoke Kyo with that same reassuring tone. A question burned my lips; a question I most desired to ask him; the question that had been obsessing me since we arrived. "Tell me Alckor; how does it feel? It must feel weird for you; as if something was out of place. Am I correct?" "Yes." I squeaked; stopped in my reflections, taking a step back; terrified to the bones. How could he know? He even knew it better than me. "Tell me Alckor; is it different?" "Yes." "How different?" "Well… usually I use the energy I take to… heal myself or… apply some changes to my body but this… thing… it's like I can't do anything with it." "A disturbance in the flow?" "Something like that… but in worse." "What do you mean by worse?" "It's… it's like it's playing with me; taunting me; doing whatever it want while always staying out of reach." "A roaming sparkle of energy." Chuckled Kaos "how frustrating isn't it?" "You bet." I grumbled; shaking my head; that so called ball of energy reaching my skull; finding entertaining to tickle the inside of my nostrils. "I feel like I have a pesky insect sticking to me all the time." "You took this energy from a youngling Alckor; it's at its image, young, curious and playful." "I see… but I sweap I didn't want to take it." I exclaimed. "I know Alckor. But tell me do you know how to give it back?" it snickered maliciously; his crimson spheres glinting like he knew the answer but was unwilling to give it to me. "No…" I admitted; feeling so dumb and pathetic. If only I could catch that elusive, always escaping thing. "Then allow me to teach you." Purred the deep demonic voice. My ears perked; eager to learn. "Firstly you must stop fighting with it." "What!?" "It's not by wrestling with it that you will learn to tame it." "Ok…" I mumbled; unsure, trying to calm myself down; struggling to keep my focus under that heavy insisting gaze; feeling observed by a scary predator awaiting for an instant of weakness to devour me. "Kaos stop that you're frightening him." Growled Kyo. "I'm only watching." He snorted; agreeing to look away. To my own dismay as the ragged drumming of my heart slowed down I felt the thing come to a slow stop. Curious I try to reach for it; it's so close; I can almost touch it yet; when I'm about to grab a hold of it the bright blue ball dashes away; keeping a safe distance between us. "Isn't it already better?" enquired the honeyed voice of the demon I once hunted with Ordan. "It is…" I snarled; trying to keep my focus. "Good; now you must expel it." "Expel it?" I gasped; astonished "isn't that dangerous?" "Not really; it's like casting a spell or breathing fire; the only difference here is that you only want to cast out that tiny fragment of energy you took; as if it was some garbage you were throwing to the bin." "I see… but how do I do that?" "It's simple" replied the demon "try to guide it somewhere; to one of your paws for instance but don't try to attack with it; just separate it from the stream and keep it somewhere you can control it."
The advice was interesting but sounded far more complex than everything I had done before. On top of that I was having troubles staying concentrated; it was so awkward hearing that bone-chilling voice coming from Kyo's body; just like me with Ares when he was taking control but it was still disturbing all the same. Even though that sounded impossible I had to at least try. Closing my eyes as hard as I could; trying to suppress all parasite thoughts, focusing entirely on the task ahead of me. My first attempt remained in vain; the thing not moving the slightest; or rather randomly wandering around my body; causing the same disturbances and itches wherever it went like before. But at my second attempt I felt a shift in its course; going with the flow instead of breaking free from it. Slowly; with intense concentration; my breathing short and irregular; my brain reduced to that one and only thing I led it to one of my limb, shivering in both happiness, pride and satisfaction as my paw opened. "I have the control… you'll do what I tell you to do." I mentally growled; forcefully shoving that alien energy out of me. My eyes popped wide but… there was nothing. "What!? But…" I protested; disappointed. "Don't abandon too soon, give it a few seconds." Chuckled Kyo… or was it that demon who spoke? I'm not sure; their voices are merging in my head. To my own surprise I notice something; a sparkle of blue emerging from a crack between my scales; floating in the air. "Is that it?" "Nott yet; be patient." "That doesn't look like much…" I huffed; frustration boiling inside me. "Watch closely." Only said whoever was talking. "Oh." I let out. Before my amazed eyes tiny bright blue particles came out of my very scales; gathering in one point; forming a tiny ball; a blinding blue sphere that started growing; swelling and swelling like a balloon; tiny lightning spurting out of its perfect blue surface; stabbing my scales; eliciting high pitched chirps from my maw. "I… I think it's everything…" I mumbled when the ball stopped growing; taking all the space available between my claws. "It's not bad for a first." Complimented the weird voice. "What the hell!!!" I yelped; turning my interest toward the source of that so unusual sound; paralyzed before the sight I discovered. Kyo was still where he was but… while I wasn't watching he… changed but unlike before he kept his size and colors; except for one of this eyes that kept that blood red taint; darkness oozing out of his scales; enveloping him in a dark aura. "What the hell happened to you Kyo?" "Well… we decided to do a little change for the upcoming meeting." "A… a little change?" "Since this is my body" started Kyo. "And since I don't want to miss a single word and believe I can help in the approaching battle" added Kaos. "We decided to… merge together." They finished together "So… how do we look like?" "Creepy." I replied. "Don't worry it's only for a few hours because I was getting tired of handing him over my body." Whispered Kyo in my mind "but as soon as what we have to do here is over I'll be back to normal." "Great… but… what do I do of this?" I interrogated; nervously pointing at the bubble of blue energy pounding and sparkling in my my palm; radiating a cool warmth. "It's entirely up to you but whatever decision you take it will have to wait." "But… why?" "I'm afraid the others are waiting for us; we don't have time to sort this out now." "Fine…" I mumbled; letting that energy fade away; every fragment of it seeping past my scales back to my very flesh; luckily not causing any discomfort. "Alright; time to go." Sighed Kyo; getting up; heading for the wide open door without hesitation. I follow; my mind wandering away; finding interest in other things… things I should be attending now instead of being here. "Ordan…" I whisper to myself; realizing I didn't make contact with him since I was freed of my captivity. He must be so worried… or he must not give a damn and curse me for being such a fool; for causing even more mayhem. I shake my head; I shouldn't think about him right now… Kyo could hear me. Yet I can't get it out of my mind; the pesky; undesired thought always coming back; quickly followed by others that made me slow down. What would Ordan think of me now? Would he believe I betrayed him? It was more than probable knowing him. How could I tell him? How could I make my intentions known to him? Confront him head on sounded like an awful idea that would only lead me to even more troubles if not into the grave. But hiding it or pretending seemed even worse in my opinion. Anyway I should have been dealing with this instead of being here… stuck in that place where I had nothing to do… beside… why am I even here? I came to a stop; the realization striking me; cutting my breath short. "Kyo." I shyly called. "Yes Alckor." "I… I have a question." "Go ahead." He said, curious; turning around to face me. I took a deep breath; gathering all my courage; staring without faltering in these two mesmerizing eyes. "Why did you bring me here?"
He staggered back; as if he had been punched in the guts by an invisible force. "Alckor…" he let out; unsure. "Why did you bring me here? I'm of no use to anyone here… not that I don't care about the fate of our home… if I still can call it so. But why did you drag me here?" "Because I know you are more useful than you think Alckor; you were in the tower, you know how it worked; you were closer from the heart of their defenses than any dragon ever dreamed of. Trust me I have a feeling you know more than you imagine." Stated the voice. "Who is talking?" I hissed defensively; my instincts telling me there was something wrong. "Guess." They chuckled, playing with me. "Maybe…" I admitted on the defensive "but… I… I'm still not sure that it was a good idea to bring me here Kyo." "Why do you say that Alckor?" sighed Kyo; his voice unmistakable. "Because… I don't feel at my place here." "But you are; just like any dragon is."
I kept my lips pinched; doubting Kyio's words. "Look I used to think just like you but I made up my mind. It will take time but you will too eventually." "No… it's not what I mean… look in a few minutes here I caused more chaos than I ever did in my whole life." "It's alright…" murmured Kyo; caressing my flank; "If you want a secret; I made quite a mess here too." He whispered; winking meaningfully. "Really?" I shushed; eyebrows quizzically raising; my ears perking up in interest. Kyo threw a quick look around; making sure no one was listening before speaking. As his words filled my ears heat rushed to my slit; a low moan escaping my mouth when my mind went to town on the dirty little secret Kyo shared with me; imagining all kinds of lewd scenes. "No way… I can't believe you had the emperor's dragon sucking your cock." I mumbled; amazed and envying. "And you don't know the best yet." He giggled; proud of the effect the revelation had on me "He was eager for more… I just had to ask and in the flick of a finger I would have had his rump swallowing my meat." "It's… unbelievable… how did you do that? I mean… I'm sure the emperor isn't bonded with a weakling." "Nope but like you I have… certain abilities." He explained; deviously grinning; leaving the rest to my already racing mind. My tail descended; hiding my groin; a bit more teasing like this and I knew I would be hard. "Still… in all honesty I'd rather have waited for your return with my mates." Kyo's expression darkened. "Alckor; don't give me wrong I bet your mates are nice guys but… I prefer to have you near me; I don't want to lose you again Alckor, you understand that?" "Kyo…" I mumbled; tears slipping from my eyes "I just found you… it's not to vanish again now." I replied; nuzzling his chest lovingly; letting out low comforting purrs. "I don't doubt that Alckor… it's just… I can't stand the idea of being separated from you again so I'd rather keep you close to me." He replied; nuzzling me back with equal affection. "Anyway; we must go; the sooner we finish this the sooner we'll be back home." He stated; getting up. "Alright then… I'm coming." I accepted rather submissively; not without taking a long look at the outside through a large window. My thought drifted away, to someone who preferred to remain in the shadow.

Meanwhile, in a not so secret lair.

Watcher
The heat is unbearable, the air filled with sulfur is making me sick, suffocating me; the bright orange glow of the lava streaming down the walls dazzling me after so long in the dark. I wipe the sweat of my forehead, having removed my hood for the first time in ages, cursing the sensation of that scorching heat on my skin, cold sweat dripping down my face. I keep circling on the large platform standing in the center of the pool, looking down, watching large bubbles rise to the surface and explode in a loud plop followed by a burst of sulfur gas. Near the rocky edge of the pool, his body half submerged by the thick substance Gohr is… meditating… or sleeping it's hard to tell with his half-lidded, hazy eyes stuck on the stalactites of the ceiling, his breathe coming out slow and regular. We had been sitting there for hours, countless, endless hours of sitting there without a purpose. My butt hurts after so much time staying there doing nothing, no meditation can appease the ragging storm that is my mind, polishing my swords over and over again does little to calm me either. I can't stop thinking about Ares… where is he now? What was he thinking? It was so foolish to go head on; he just fell into a trap and got himself captured. But… I have to give him that; his plan however had a benefic effect, it had created so much trouble; caused such a mayhem it would have been a perfect time to act. I felt more than I saw Kyo flying away in the distance; thankfully alone; a perfect, vulnerable, exposed, lone target ready to be taken down. Well… not that perfect of a target. I could sense the darkness radiating out of him, hiding his so peculiar signature, replacing it by a darker but more appealing trace, a trail I would have gladly followed. "Look at you Kyo… you may be more useful than I thought." I whispered back then, grinning evilly, imagining what I would do once I'd have him submitted to my will. Yet even though I wanted to go after him and earn that prize I had been longing for, that I had been tracking for months I had no other choice but to follow the commands I was given. I snuck in the cavern, found my way through the corridors; descended the staircase toward the heated depth of the mountains, luckily finding no one in that place.
When I arrived it was to find Gohr sitting in the lava pool, the upper half emerging from the molten goo, the orange veins covering his massive body pulsating strangely, his eyes blazing weirdly as, for an unknown reason he grinned to me; a grin that had nothing friendly.
"Well… I think we just witnessed the bottom of your incompetence." he spat, sinking a bit in the pool of lava, pointing with a magma-coated claw at the large platform, urging me to get there. I obeyed; forced to walk all the way there by the anti-magic protections, climbing on his large frame then jumping over the boiling lava to reach my destination. For several long minutes he only sat there, observing me, glaring at me in a mix of disgust, hatred and disappointment. "Look at you… so pathetic… you've been failing countless times… you've dragged our kind in the mud with your weakness…" he huffed, sinking deeper in the unbearably hot pond; a satisfied smile curling his traits, savoring the heat he enjoyed so direly. "Look at us… a lava dragon and a pathetic whelp of a human… so pathetic… so insignificant." he let out, staring at the roof like it held the answer to our problem. I found myself following his gaze, observing the cascades of scalding hot lava fueling the pool. "We are warriors… at least… one of us is… we are supposed to be strong, unstoppable, nothing should be able to stand in our way or… oppose us any kind of resistance… and still… we're incapable of fulfilling our mission…" he sighed tiredly. "Yes… but it's not every day that we have to take down one of ours… even if they went rogue a few decades ago." "Yes… indeed you're right… but he fooled us like beginners… I feel so dumb…" he huffed, sinking deeper until only his neck and head remained over the bubbling surface. "He knows how we roll; you should know that… especially you." I let out, a large grin spreading over my lips as his face twisted in a snarl of anger. "Be careful with what you say… but… as much as it hurts me to say it, you are right; I know him like no other. I should have known better than that…" "Indeed… but that whelp he found shelter wasn't that much of a weakling than I thought… I shouldn't have underestimated him like I did… just like I underestimated that human… he is… more resourceful and clever than I thought… and my bones remember it." "Yes… I think if he had another opportunity to blast you to dust he would gladly take It." he giggled, the roles suddenly reversing. "Don't have to remind me, I know he would."
"And… the worst is… he found himself some strong friends… making him even harder to hit." "Too bad we just missed an opportunity." I growled, pissed off as I felt Kyo fly away out of range. "It was foolish; another dragon is on his trail… the green one." "What his boyfriend!? He isn't much of a problem." I grunted. "You underestimate them once again. If you had observed you would have noticed that he knows our kind better than you imagine. To be more precise he is following the trail his… mate is living behind like an experienced hunter." "Damn it…" I swear under my breath.
Gohr sank even deeper, only his snout protruding out of the pool, like a dark rock floating on a burning lake of molten materials. "Let's face it… we've been overpowered… humiliated… and decimated." while cringing his snout vanished below the surface. I sat there, feet dangling in the air, looking down at the unfathomable extent of lava. From nowhere a large form surged out of the peaceful surface, rising until it towered over the platform, sending droplets of thick magma everywhere. When I was done covering myself from the deadly rain I found his snout lying across the large rocky platform, the rest of his body leaning against the large pillar holding it. "I hate to say this but… if your little servant fails… it will mean that… we have been defeated." "Don't cry victory too soon… although you're right I don't give him much of a chance but we can still finish this." "Don't be foolish, we are outnumbered; overwhelmed and… they are expecting us now." he sighed with a defeated look. "I don't think so…" I replied; circling on the rocky plateau "We still have one ace up our sleeve." "What is it?" "First you…" "Don't be stupid; by now they must be aware of my presence here and if they're not searching for me now they will be hunting me down soon." "Maybe but there is still me." "After your countless hilarious failures I don't see how you could be useful." "They think me dead!" I retorted, delighting myself of his puzzled expression. "That's correct but… you won't be able to do much with that… wizard around…" he hissed, thick lava drooling from his maw. "Yes… he is definitely a thorn in our back…" I agreed, caressing the edge of my sword, eager to cut him down to a billion of tiny pieces. "Still… I can't believe we were all vanquished so easily." "Me too…" I admitted, still walking around the circular place. "You were beaten… so often it’s almost funny." he chuckled, grinning mockingly. "You need to bring this up again thank you!" I growled, unsheathing my sword.
"But… admittedly you're not the only one… that… cursed zombie like you call him has been erased and his possessor sent to the void; Alya vanished…" "I bet she felt too ashamed to dare to tell you her silly plan failed miserably. I guess she got pounded hard and deep by her former master and decided to change side.” "That… that sounds coherent… sadly." "Who had the bright idea of involving her?" "Me…" he whispered "and I know what you are about to say 'It was a bad idea from the start and bla bla bla'…" "No… not exactly like that but it's rather close to what I thought. What I find regrettable is that you kept her in the dark all along, maybe she wouldn't have failed if she had known what she was up against… although I'm assuming Kaos still has some influence on her." "Probably… but… whatever we say the result is still the same, we didn't succeed." "Let's see how it goes first before we take any decision; we might be surprised." I let out, more hopeful than I expected myself to be. "Let's see how it goes; if we get no result at the sunset I will consider your servant's plan a complete failure and… I will have no choice but to call in some reinforcement… and you know like me he won't be satisfied… and that there will be severe punishments for the both of us." "Let's hope Ares' plan is a success… whatever that was."
And with that I sat there.
Suddenly, as I started to despair, to think about what would happen if he died; as I was struck by the realization that I would endure the same unbearable pain I already went through, wondering if my already crippled soul would be able to survive it; I finally felt it, what I had been hoping for, what I had been wishing for with all my heart… or rather what was left of it; that thing I had been clinging so hard onto like my life depended on it. To my own dismay I found myself jumping to my feet, a large smile weirdly twisting my traits, as I let my joy explode, overpowering me; flooding me with pure happiness, an emotion I hadn't felt in years, so old, so deeply buried inside me I almost forgot it; my body shaking uncontrollably; that sweet poison coursing through my veins. "He… he is alive!" I mumbled, trembling from head to toes. "He made it…!" I stammered, paralyzed in a mix of relief and happiness. "Odan… are you alright?" enquired a wondering Gohr, emerging from his slumber, watching me with a confused look. "I knew he would do it!" I exclaimed, jumping from my perch, landing flat on top of Gohr's snout, lying across his burning hot scales, arms tightly holding him in some sort of hug. "Wow… that was… unexpected…" he mumbled, his scales turning hotter, the orange color radiating from the exposed vein shifting to a red shade; his body quaking in surprise under the unexpected affection. "But… what aare you talking about?" "Ares!" I shouted, standing on the tip of his snout, proclaiming the news out loud, my voice bouncing on the high walls, filling the silence with a triumphant shout. "That's… good news." he let out, dismissing his relief under a veil of calm and concentration "we may still have a chance. However we will need to keep a close eye on him to see how it goes and preferably not interfere until we are told to." "What don't tell me you're ready to hand him the reins of the whole operation?" "If it can allow him to accomplish his mission; then I'm ready to take the risk… and suffer the consequences in case he fails." "So what do we do then?" "We wait and see how it unfolds."
"Fine… guess I don't have much of a choice." I sighed, sitting on his snout. "Could you make me a favor and find yourself another place where to sit your fat ass." he growled, thick lava-like spit falling from his mouth, his scales becoming unbearably hot.
"Sorry…" I gasped, disappearing in a flash, going back to my original location; thrown away by a violent shake of his snout.
I remain silent, closing my eyes, letting my mind wander far away, out of that cursed cave, roaming around the large verdant park. I can't see much, but more than that I feel; I sense his presence; that so unusual aura hard to miss; beaconing me in an instant, guided by the rhythmic pounding of his energy; a dark heart slowly beating. He is coming out of a place that gives me the creeps, a place that gives me the creeps… like so few things can now; a place that I once built but that I now despise and fear like pest; a place blind and deaf to the outside world; where only few come out with a saint mind and healthy body. Around him I sense a number of another auras; among which one that causes me to shiver in anticipation. He did it; somehow he managed to deceive him and maybe… earn his trust.
How did he succeed is still a mystery but I can barely contain my excitement, my mind already elaborating new plans, trying to guess what Ares' next move will be. Yet… I can't stop questioning his methods. How did he manage to free himself? Did he fool Kyo once again? I remember what I saw… and what I was told; that he let them go unharmed because he thought them too innocent, too young and helpless to be real threats. "That was your biggest mistake Kyo…" I chuckled to myself.
Although one puzzling dark zone remained to be enlightened why his appearance, or rather his disguise seemed to disturb Kyo so much… then, when he realized he had been tricked why did it look to piss him off so much, more than someone that had been fooled… like for an obscure reason he recognized someone. Hmmm something I'd definitely have to ask Ares about. I kept observing them, deprived of actual eyes or any means of seeing what was happening, frustrated to be degraded from the mastermind plotting the next decisive move to a simple bystander watching from the sideline. But still… I had to give him that he was doing pretty well so far. "Wait… where are they going?" I gasped, eyes bursting wide open as, out of nowhere they disappeared; soaring in the sky, beating their wings so fast they quickly evade my sight. "Where are they going?" I repeat, staring at emptily at the roof. "They flew of?" "Yes they did." I growled "but where are they going?" "I have a feeling they are heading for the capital city." stated Gohr. "_he capital… but… why?" I gasped, all colors leaving my face. ,"Don't worry too much; it could even be useful to us." he purred, a large grin spreading over his lips. "Why are you saying that?" "I heard rumors of an important meeting is taking place today, involving the emperor and all the important people of the empire, generals; politicians; inventors, weapon makers." "All in all the perfect place for a political assassination." I exclaimed, rubbing my hands together. "Or to gather information. Words of an impending attack have come to my ears so every info we can gather will be useful into breaking their offensive." "Clever… I'll just have to listen carefully."
"Indeed; that bond between you and that… Ares will finally be of some use." "Finally…" I admitted, nodding in approval. "Let's get to it then shall we?" let out Gohr, finding a more comfortable position. "Certainly."
I closed my eyes, reaching for the bond hidden deep under layers of protection; shuddering in unwanted delight as I felt myself being sucked in, drawn to it like a magnet. In a flash I was… "What the!" I yelped, falling back, eyes snapping open as my head roughly slammed in the hard stone. Dazed, half knocked out, stars dancing before my eyes I try to piece together what just happened to me. I can't believe what I just felt… what just hit me, what I just rammed into. A wall, a thick, impenetrable wall standing at the end of our bond. Where before I would discover an opened, youthful, curious, and damn lustful mind gladly welcoming me inside I only found a complex system of mental barriers, tough walls surrounding his mind, denying me access. Before I could even try to warn him I rammed head first in that brick wall of a defense system. "What the…" I huffed, massaging my head, grimacing in pain. "Something wrong?" "Nah nothing." I grumbled, my head aching. I tried again, finding myself met with the same sight. "Ares!" I called "let me in." No response. "Ares! You hear me! Let me in!" I growled, losing patience. "Ares! Stop being stubborn and open your mind! Oh you dumbass you hear me!" Only the silence answered me. "Something's wrong…" I whispered to myself, trying to find a breach in his defenses but, to my own dismay I didn't find any. He really wanted to keep his mind protected from intrusions.
"From the look on your face I guess something is bothering you." giggled the dragon, observing me from above, his forepaws planted on each side of the platform. "Yes… I can't reach him, his mind is forbidden to me." I admitted, not hiding my worries. "I suppose no spy want to be spotted. It's not against you but I think it's preferable that you try not to make contact with him for now; we don't want to get him killed do we?" "Yes… you're right…" I sighed, halting my desperate attempts. "I'm sorry but it's better like this…"
With that he fell back into the pool, going for a swim. I sat there, pondering my options, nervously playing with a dagger, throwing and catching it. A shiver ran down my spine, a strange feeling invading me, a warm caress against my cheek, an appeasing touch. I looked back; nothing. The same sensation came back, like someone nudging themselves against my face, rubbing against my ^;kin, warmth seeping in my flesh. My heart swelled with relief. "Ares…" I sputtered, my whole body trembling in utter relief. I closed my eyes, savoring that sweet but contact, every touch, probes and rub of that invisible presence coaxing more happiness from deep inside me. I wanted to answer to the affection, to feel him again but, when I tried to touch him he pulled away, remaining far out of reach. "Sorry Ordan… I… I can't stay for long." he let out in a barely audible whisper "I'd like to count you all the incredible things that happened but I'm missing time. I will tell you everything later… I promise. Just know this… I know my name… and I found my brother."
"What!? Hold on what are you talking about?!" but before I could finish the communication was over, his mind sealed away again; only leaving a strange taste of true joy.
"So… what did he say?" enquired a familiar deep rumbling voice. I froze, turning around, finding a large snout right behind me, nostrils blowing hot air over my back, glowing eyes gazing at me with unhidden curiosity. “He just… he just said that he had something important to tell us… later… and to not try to contact him until then." "I replied, keeping the last bit for me. "A wise decision indeed." approved the lava drake, acknowledging with a smile. "You may leave now if you wish; there is no need for you to stay here all day. Beside… I'd really appreciate some… alone time if you see what I mean." he timidly whispered, his traits twitching in embarrassment, accompanying his words with a rather lewd wink.
"You're just gross! How can you think of this at such an important moment?" "I need to blow off some steam; this day has been especially stressful. Beside… all victory must be celebrated so if you'd politely leave me some privacy. After all… I don't think you're very keen on witnessing me playing with myself again." "No than you." I let out, disappearing in the blink of an eye; rushing for an exit; loud groans already filling the heated cavern; waves of potent dragon musk following me as I flea. “I wish you the best Alckor…” I thought; vanishing in a puff of smoke at the first step out of the spell.
