My Mate II: Didacts and Narpets (His Comfort)
"Stay (Go!)"
"Work! (No!)"
"Think! (Live!)"
"Earn! (Give!)"
John lifted his body away from Marlo's unfortunately, but he did so to get a better look at him as he curled his barrel on the sheets to lay on his right side, lifting his right wing to not get crushed while folding it with his left.
The man couldn't explain it, but just the sight of the dragon added a warmness within that he couldn't explain.
Whether it was his looks when he placed his paws on top of each other like at a table, or his handsome blue eyes, he just couldn't figure it out.
However, the fact that Marlo was beautiful was undeniable.
They just stood on their on their sides, drinking in the sights of the other, separate, but not for long, as they just enjoyed this trance for a while.
However, like before, Marlo was the one who broke the pregnant silence.
“So, uh, do you want me to go first? Or…?", the drake said, dunking his head to his paws as he fidgeted nervously with them.
Oh Marlo…
You're such a goof…
“Naw, I'll go.", John stated, taking the conversation from Marlo as to not give any sort of pressure to him.
Afterall, he didn't have many words anyways.
“There's not much to talk about."
Marlo swallowed his sheepishness and stood up the best he could and became attentive to hear John's story.
“I'm an only child. My mother…was from Maine, a little up north, and my father was from Virginia, down south. That's why my voice has a southern twang to it.", he revealed, lifting his right hand for emphasis,
Oh?
That was why he sounded like that?
He knew the man had texture to his voice, but actually hearing that it was a trait of those in the lower states was fascinating to say the least.
Afterall, his voice being music to his ear holes only made him love John even more.
“Then, once I got old enough, I moved out and went down here to make a living with what I had. And…that's it really."
Then, just like that, John's explanation was finished.
He was right. There wasn't to talk about. He was just a man, trying to make his way in the world.
But thank Bahamut it was here of all places…
“What about you?"
Oh!
Marlo was ripped from his thought bubble as he caught the question.
“Me? W-Well…"
Marlo looked away for but a few seconds.
He's…well, he's never told another soul about this, but times are changing, and he was about to become this human's mate, so he tried his best to explain his life's story.
“My family…I-I have two sisters…"
“I'm in the middle. My older sister is named Seralis, and my younger one is Gris…", he said, saying the latter name like Chris except with a G at the start of it.
“Gris was just a hatchling before I left to live on my own, even though Sera and my mother wanted me to stay with them in the community."
Ah…
So he shortened Seralis to Sera, hmmm?
It did seem like a mouthful.
And his family wanted him to stay?
Well, thank God that didn't happen, as he never would've met the drake if so.
“My mother…"
He turned away as if he was unpacking some past and rather bad memories.
“S-She was very strict…"
“It only made sense since she had to raise us alone."
What?
Alone?
What happened to…
Oh…
Oh God.
“My father…"
He halted for a second.
This was something he had trouble talking about, especially when he lived with his family.
“H-He really wasn't there most of the time. I barely saw him, and when me or any of my siblings did, it was like we weren't even there."
Well, at least he wasn't dead, but still, it was…disheartening, depressing.
He could tell that Marlo didn't want to talk about this.
How?
How could such a thing happen?
Did his father not want children, only to have his mother conceive them by accident? Or did he just whore around and just saw her as compatible, but nothing more? Or the other way around? He didn't know.
And why come back? Why abandon one who may have loved you?
How could you possibly live without a father figure? Without one to look up to?
He felt sad for Marlo, his sisters, and his mother.
Terrible.
“Oh...I-I'm sorry."
Oh John…
He didn't have to be sorry for anything. It was just life. Some people had it worse off than others.
It was all Bahamut's plan at the end of the day, and so, he accepted it as part of himself, even though he grew up with a piece missing.
He let out a sigh as he looked straight down at himself in acceptance.
“It's okay. Afterall, I wouldn't have been born and hatched if he never mated with my mother. Same with my sisters."
John had to respect Marlo for that.
He tried to spin such a horrible part of his life into something positive, but if the feelings he caught drifting from his psychic mind said anything, it was that he had a hole in his life that was simply impossible to fill.
And having one parent is better than none, but it made complete sense why his mother would be this way.
You had to be strong for your children, to raise them to go out into the wide world. Splitting it between two was okay, but for one? The effect of hardening his caretaker was the only result of handling hatchlings by yourself, abandoned by their sire.
Why did she choose him? Why accept his essence to birth children? Was it for the sake of a bloodline, or just the pleasure?
John knew for a fact that Marlo wasn't a mistake. He wasn't. God and…Bahamut…made him exist, and so for that, he was eternally grateful.
It was just truly sad that the drake likely didn't see it that way.
He saw it as him having little worth. His father just walking by like his own children were strangers didn't help anything either.
No wonder why Marlo cherished the man. He wasn't controlling like his mother, even if she had good intentions, and having her attention amongst three, including a hatchling, didn't do the drake favors, and so being a companion both during and after his time of need when his life was on the line drew attraction.
He gave him love, allowed him to break out of his shell, to trust, to learn, to value and hold dear.
Hence, Marlo falling for him.
Like the drake, such tragedy had to be accepted as the circle of life. You had to move on, regardless of the circumstances.
Afterall, it is what you made of your life that defined you now, and it was the past that shaped who you were.
While either of them could go more in-depth with Marlo's childhood, they ultimately decided to leave it alone for now.
Getting to know the emotional baggage of the one you were going to spend your life with was important, but this was a special moment in their lives! They should be happy that they were binding together to become one, not sad, depressed, or even nervous, despite the latter being justified!
And so, upon John nodding in understanding, he dragged himself over to the side of the dragon's chest and covered it in his right arm once more as the drake drew the man closer with his right forepaw.
Here they were, in this position once again.
And, like before they talked a bit about their previous lives before knowing each other, they just sat there, listening to each other's heartbeat as they melted into their touch.
They could do this forever. Afterall, what could be better than holding the one you loved?
Their nerves were a still a bit jumpy anyways, as they still had to…uh…
After a while, the thought returned to their heads, and Marlo opened his eyes as he stared up at the ceiling while pulling John closer with his leg and paw.
“So, uh…"
Again, he began, but didn't even come close to finishing anything.
However, John perked up nevertheless.
“You…want to get started? Or…"
Like before, his question dragged off, Marlo giving the choice if John wanted to continue this.
As the more fragile of the two, the dragon put the decision on him. No pressure.
Regardless, there was also a bit of awkwardness to the question as well, as they never, um…revealed themselves to each other.
It was bound to be a bit off-putting, at least at first.
John thought about while gazing at his windows on the wall. The night was still young, and he could stop all of this.
But he didn't. He wanted Marlo. He wanted to be with his soulmate despite everything that it would entail.
Why?
Like he said, he loved the purple drake too damn much. The way that the dragon laughed, smiled, talked, and cared for him even though the man was a different species made him wish to be Marlo's mate, even if it was permanently bonding the dragon way, not the human one.
And just helping Marlo find his place in human society, all of its benefits and quirky inventions that made Humanity what it was today gave him a sort of attraction to his draconic companion as he taught him not only about their world, but how to harness his powers.
All in all, Marlo was special, and like the drake in front of him, he loved him with all of his heart, even if his reserved nature kept him a bit quiet most of the time.
Still…
John gulped a little.
He never had...uh...sex...with anyone, so it only made sense that he was internally nervous about it.
He knew that it would hurt, but…
No. It was only a minute detail in the end. The pleasure he would feel and becoming the psychic dragon's mate was worth it.
“Uh…sure.", John said casually, although there was a hint of…doubt.
As much as the drake noticed it, he realized that John's need to be with him as much as his own overshadowed everything else.
All that was left was their love.
And so, they began the activities of the night.
