Mary Jane's Last Chance

Here's a little story I've been working on for a little while. Would have probably had it done sooner, but I kind of got sidetracked with graduation, but here it is!

This story is from the perspective of Chance, a grizzly bear trucker who picks up a woman who's hitchhiking in Texas. The more time he spends with her on the road, the more he learns about how they share a bit more in common than he thought.

I originally intend for it to be longer, but the half I cut just felt like the beginning of a second part, so I'll save that for a possible sequel between these characters.

I hope you all like it!

FAIR WARNING: This story touches on the topic of domestic abuse, so if that bothers you, you might want to give this one a skip.

Mary Jane's Last Chance

By: Ash Cinder

I loaded up the truck with the last case of sodas. That week's job involved me transporting some cases of Mountain Dew to a grocery store over in San Antonio, travelling there from some factory in some bumfuck town up in north Texas. It was mid-December at the time, and even though it was Texas, it was still damn cold outside.

“All loaded up and ready to go Chance!" Rodney, the Dalmatian loading up the truck hollered.

“Thanks, Rod." I said, patting his back.

“Bit of a long trip ain't it?" He asked.

“Psh, isn't it always?" I sassed.

“Just be careful on the way there." He warned. “The roads are a little icy right now."

“Yeah, I know. I'll be sure to stop at any of the truckstops on my way over if it gets too bad." I said, walking over to the front of the truck and getting in.

“Take care Chance." He saluted.

“You too." I said, before starting the truck and beginning my journey to the destination.

I'd been in the trucking business a long time then, started when I was 28, and at the time I was pushing 46. Can't say this was what I imagined I'd be doing with my life, but I took to it well, or I guess it sort of took to me. It certainly was a fitting job for an old bear like me.

Wasn't glamorous or anything, and it certainly put my ass to sleep just sitting on it for these days long trips, but the pay was worth it, mostly. I'd had my fair share of shitty days on the job, muggers trying to kill me when I'm refueling, tire blowouts, and just the higher-ups screwing me over with extra shit on the job just to save a quarter.

I'd been on the road for about 5 hours now, had to go extra slow with the ice on different parts of the road. The road had been mostly empty, with not many cars passing by. I'd seen one red mini-cooper on the side of the road, but that was about it.

As I continued to drive down the open road I noticed someone in the distance. When I drove closer I realized it was a human woman. She was wearing a black jacket, a white backpack, jeans and boots as she continued through the cold. Once she heard the truck coming she turned and waved like she wanted a ride. I decided to oblige, pulling over and letting her climb up to my window. She was a pretty young-looking thing, looked like she was in her mid to late twenties, had brunette hair, and had a bit of makeup on, but not too much.

“Need a ride?" I asked.

“Yeah… I don't know if you saw my car back there, but I've been walking for over an hour now, and I really need a ride into town, and get a tow truck on that."

“Oh, the mini Cooper? Yeah I saw it."

“Where're you headed?" She asked.

“Shouldn't it be me asking you that?"

“Just answer my question, please." She said, somewhat annoyed.

“Final destination's San Antonio."

“Perfect, could you give me a lift there?"

“I ain't taking you all the way. I ain't a taxi service or—"

“I could pay you for your trouble!" She interrupted. Flashing quite a bit of cash from her jacket pocket, quite a lot to be just carrying around with her. I shot her a questioning look.

“Alright, get in." I said, with a bit of a sigh, having a feeling I was probably going to regret this later.

As we drove I continued to make conversation with her.

“So, you got a name, miss?"

“…Mary Jane…" She said.

I gave her a skeptic look, as Tom Petty's “Mary Jane's Last Dance" was playing on the radio when she said that.

“Can't you do a little better than that?" I asked, laughing slightly.

“A girl's gotta have her privacy…" She said. “Besides, it's a good song."

“Heh, that we can agree on." I turned up the radio.

We sat there in silence for a little bit. I let her stare out the window

“Chance…" I said back.

“Huh?" She asked, turning to me.

“_My_name."

“Oh… well nice to meet you Chance…" She said. “So, you get hitchhikers much?"

“Get, or pick up?" I asked her to clarify.

“Pick up I guess?"

“Heh, Last one I picked up was probably five years ago." I don't typically pick anyone up unless they look really desperate." I looked at her.

“Heh, well thanks for hauling my desperate ass to San Antonio."

“So, I'm assuming you aren't gonna get me into some kind of trouble as I'm 'hauling your desperate ass' to San Antonio?"

“What kind of trouble?"

“Just making sure I'm not hauling some chick that escaped prison or some Aileen Wuornos type that'll murder me in my sleep."

“I'm not Aileen Wuornos." She said, rolling her eyes. “And what about you? You aren't some perv that's going to force himself on me on the side of the road?" Oddly enough I noticed her tone wasn't as sarcastic as mine was when she asked me that.

“No, despite my tough guy appearance, I'm not the aggressive type." I reassured. “Typical bear, I don't attack unless provoked."

“Okay… good…" She said.

We sat there in silence again, not really knowing what else to say to each other. I couldn't help but wonder more about her. Why didn't she just wait by her car, or call for a tow truck? Seemed a little weird to just abandon your car on and continue down the road on foot.

“Don't mean to pry, but do you normally leave your car on the side of the road when it breaks down?" I asked. “I mean if you're going all the way to San Antonio, it doesn't really sound like you're coming back for it…"

“It's a long story…"

“Well, we've got plenty of road between us and San Antonio, so I'm all ears."

She sighed in response.

“Look… if I tell you, I'm only going to tell you so much… and when I do, you have to keep taking me to San Antonio…"

“I_have_to?" I gave her a glare.

She just gave me a hard look.

“Hm… alright, my curiosity is peaked."

“That… wasn't exactly my car back there…" She admitted.

“So, what?" I asked. “You just lied to make me give you a ride?"

“No… I mean, it's not my car… I was driving it, but… it's not mine."

“So, you stole it?" I asked, giving her a glare.

“Not exactly… or not completely…" She said.

“Look, if you stole a car and are now making me help you escape I'm just going to pull over and kick you out right now! I'm not gonna lose my job over some bitch who—"

“It's my fiancé's car and I stole it to get away from him alright?!" She blurted out quickly.

“What?" I asked.

She sighed deeply.

“My fiancé's a piece of shit and I'm running away from him…" She looked solemn.

“Oh…" I said, not really sure how to react.

“I don't want to get into it right now, okay?" She said, looking away from me and staring out the window. “Can we just… keep driving?"

As we drove her situation couldn't help but cause memories of Erlinda to come flooding back to me.

Erlinda was my ex-wife. We were together for 8 years maybe before the divorce. I always tried not to think about her, just brought back to many painful memories. Let's just say our divorce was a little like what this girl was doing, me getting the hell away from her.

“So… I'm sorry for involving you in this." She said to me.

“It's no problem." I sighed.

“I would have kept driving if that piece of shit hadn't have broken down on the side of the road."

“Maybe it's a good thing it did." I admitted. “I imagine the police will probably be looking for it."

“True."

“So, you gonna try and start over in SA?" I asked her.

“It's where I used to live before I met him…" She said. “Those were happier times."

“Sounds like it." I said.

“Then I moved with him to Overland Park."

“You drove down from Kansas?"

“Yeah, surprised I made it this far, if I'm being honest."

We chatted on and off as we continued on the road until it got to one in the morning and I felt myself start getting tired.

“Looks like there's a truckstop a few miles up ahead, I'm going to stop and get some rest there. Can't drive all night unfortunately."

“Alright." She said

“I'll be sure to a two-bed room."

“Thanks, I'll pay for it myself."

I pulled into the truck stop for the night, parking my big rig and we both got out.

“Wait here." I said. “I'm gonna go get us a room."

“Alright…" She leaned against the truck.

I stepped inside and walked over to the squirrel behind the counter.

“Could I get a room for two please?" I asked.

“Sorry, we're out of rooms for two right now."

“What?!" I asked. “No, no, no, one with two beds."

“Yeah, they're all being used tonight sweetie…" She said.

“Ah, shit!"

“Well, the beds are pretty big if you don't mind sharing…" She asked.

“Ugh…" I turned around to walk back out the door. “I'll go ask her…"

“Her? Heh, good luck."

I rolled my eyes as I walked out the door and back up to Mary Jane.

“So, got the room?" She asked, looking up at me.

“Not exactly…" I grumbled.

“What's that supposed to mean?"

“So… don't take this the wrong way, but… how do you feel about sharing a bed?"

“…Are you fucking serious?" She said with an annoyed tone, giving me a blank look.

“All they have are single rooms left." I groaned.

She sighed.

“Well, it sounds like I don't have much of a choice." She rolled her eyes.

“Hey, just giving you a fair warning." I said, turning around and heading through the doors back to the lady behind the counter.

“How'd it go?" She gave me a bit of a smirk as she looked back up at me.

“Looks like we're sharing." I rolled my eyes and handed her my debit card.

“Hehe, you two enjoy your stay now." She swiped my card before handing it back to me with the key to the room we'd be staying in.

“Yeah, and you enjoy your night now." I said in a mocking tone before walking back out.

I walked back out to the girl and twirled the keys around.

“Well…" She sighed. “At least we've got a room."

“Yup." I said, throwing the keys up and catching them.

We walked into the room. It was about what I was expecting, one bedroom, one very small bathroom with a shower at least, and a TV.

“Sorry I couldn't get us a room with two beds…" I said with a hint of nervousness in my voice as I got ready for bed.

“It's okay… I don't mind sharing." She said, I could tell she was a little uncomfortable though. “At least I'll be warm at night…"

My body tensed up when she said that. I hadn't really been with any women for a while, at least none that weren't hookers in some dirty hotel room for a quick one-night stand. I don't know why I felt so strange about this girl, maybe it was just that her situation with her fiancé seemed similar to me and my ex-wife years ago. I could also catch a hint of something on her, I tried to shake the feeling I had.

“Sorry if it's a little awkward." She said.

“Hey, can't help it if they're out of rooms." I lay down in bed in my underwear, with her joining me, in a long sleeve shirt she had been wearing under her jacket and some sweat pants she put on in the bathroom.

As I lay down next to her I couldn't help but think about Erlinda again. It always hurt to think of her. She'd never crossed my mind often, but when she did she always brought back more painful memories instead of pleasant ones, even though we'd had quite a few together before the relationship turned sour.

I'd been married to her for about 4 years. In her defense it was me that rushed the relationship a bit, proposing to her only about a year and a half we were together, though she technically could have said no and sparred us both the heartache.

Not sure when the magic started fleeting but it was hard to ignore when I caught her in bed with our friend Kyle followed by her saying “I think it's time for a divorce" right afterwards.

I gave a sigh as I thought about her, I hated that our relationship had to end the way it did, and now it just brought back shitty memories whenever I thought about her.

“You okay?" She asked.

“Huh?" Forgetting I was zoning out with MJ still in the room. “Nah, I'm just tired…" I lied.

“Me too…" She said. “I was going to take a shower, but I think I'll just wake up early and do that in the morning." She lay down on the bed. “I'm beat from all the driving and walking I did today."

I lay down beside her, thinking about how awkward this was that I was sharing a bed with some woman that I'd just met.

“Thanks for helping me, again." She said. “I know you're kind of risking a lot by helping me, but yeah, thanks so much." She patted my shoulder.

“No problem, glad I could offer help to someone in a shitty situation."

“Well, goodnight, Chance." She said.

“Goodnight…" I said back, turning the light off before slowly drifting off.

“What the fuck was I to you?" I growled.

“Oh, come the fuck on, Chance!" Erlinda said. “You haven't touched me in months, you should have known this was bound to happen."

“So, it's my fault that your unfaithful now, is that it?" I asked.

I was having the same dream again, well more of a memory. The day I caught my wife cheating.

“Why don't you be a man you son of a bitch!" She said. “Grow a spine for once in your damn life and just fucking say it already."

“Say what?"

“The d-word."

“Really, that's what you want me to say? Why? So, you won't have to." I spat.

“Oh of course I'm going to end up having to, because you never do anything around her, never have since we married. So yeah, it's time for a divorce."

“You know what!" I said suddenly, actually taking control of the dream for once. “I'm fine with it! You're a stuck up miserable woman, and I'm sorry I ever had any interest in you. All you've done is made me feel like shit all the time, so yeah, I'm glad we're getting divorced, I'm glad I'll never have to wake up next to you ever again! Now kindly get the fuck out of my house!"

“You son of a bitch…" She said, taken aback.

But as she said that, the words felt distant, like they weren't coming from her, suddenly the dream started to fade, and I realized I was waking up, but I could still hear someone saying those words.

“You son of a bitch… You son of a bitch…"

I turned to see MJ next to me, tossing and turning, looking like she'd been having about as rough of a night as I'd been having.

“Get your hands off me you son of a bitch!" She cried. “Don't fucking touch me! No! NO!" She was getting hysterical.

“Oh shit!" I muttered to myself and shook her, trying to wake her up. “MJ, wake up, wake up!"

“No! Get the fuck off me you bastard!" She yelled, balling her hands into fists as if she was trying to fight me.

“MJ! MJ!" I shouted louder, trying to get through to her.

“No! No, get off!" She said before her eyes shot open and she looked around the room, in a cold sweat. “What the fuck, where am I?!" She said, confused.

“You're at the truck stop, remember?" I said. “You were having an episode." I said, letting go of her hands.

“Oh… th-thanks…" She said, I noticed she was still shaking, tears forming in her eyes.

“Are you okay…" I asked. “I mean _really _okay? That seemed like more than just a dream you were going through…"

“What do you mean 'more than just a dream'?" She asked.

“Like… a memory… like what I was dreaming about before I woke up…" I admitted.

I noticed tears start to stream down her face and all of a sudden, she wrapped her arms around me into a tight hug and cried.

“Oh, Chance…" She sobbed. “I'm sorry for involving you in this…"

“Involving me in what?!" I asked. “What exactly have you gotten into?"

“Remember me saying that, that car that broke down wasn't mine…"

“Yeah?"

“It was my fiancé's… Burt…" She said, her voice filled with venom when she said his name. “But that's not all I took from him… I-I killed him."

“T-Tell me everything…" I rubbed her back comfortingly. "Why exactly are you trying to run away from him? It's more than 'you just don't want to marry him' right?"

“I was originally planning on going to San Antonio to get away from him… that fucking son of a bitch…" She stopped for a second and rolled up her sleeve and turned on the light, revealing some ugly looking bruises all over her arms. “He's abused me for years, made me feel like dirt… But he found out and... we fought, but like more than we'd fought before and... I'm still not sure what happened, but next thing I knew he was bleeding all over the kitchen floor with a knife in his chest."

"Holy shit!"

"Yeah... I just, I don't know, snapped after all these years of taking that shit from..."

“I can sort of relate." I admitted.

“What do you mean?"

“I was married… for a little while… my wife Erlinda. She never did anything physical to me, but she always did everything she could to make me feel like less of a man, slept around a lot and then blamed me when I finally caught her. We divorced a while back, and I've never seen her again… and I'm better for it. It's obviously nothing like you went through... but yeah." I hugged her tighter.

“Damn… but you got away…" She said, stroking my chest.

“Yeah… I did." I said.

“That's what I'm trying to do."

“Yeah."

“Look, I'm really sorry for involving you in all of this Chance." She said, looking up at me, tears in her eyes. “But I needed to get away. I can't fucking go to jail!"

I was really showing my softer side now, continuing to rub her back gently.

"Well, just so you know, I'll keep doing whatever I can to get you to where you need to go. You've been though so much..."

“Chance…" She said. “You're the first guy that's really helped me in I don't know how long… You've treated me like… well, like a person."

“I'm glad I could… you deserve it after what you've been through."

We both just looked into each other's eyes, we'd both gone through some sort of pain, kept it in and refused to talk about it with anyone for so long until now.

She gently stroked my cheek before slowly leaning over and planting her lips against mine. I held her gently, my large body practically dwarfing her's. She moaned as I carefully slid my tongue into her mouth, not feeling her object to it. Were we really doing this.

“Oh, Chance…" She spoke through the kiss, running her hand carefully down my broad chest.

I held her close as we continued to kiss deeply, letting out a low growl, but not of dominance or aggression, but of comfort, letting her know she was safe with me. I licked all around the inside of her mouth, savoring this moment. I'd never shared such a passionate kiss with a woman in quite a long time.

Then she laid down on the bed, pulling me on top of her and letting me kiss and lick her bare neck, letting out little moans, her body shaking.

“Oh, MJ…" I moaned, nuzzling her neck. “I… I want to make you feel something special tonight… if you'll let me."

“Y-Yes, Chance… Please…" She whispered.

I continued to lick her neck, but moved down, slipping off her shirt and exposing her bare breasts. I traced my paws down her body, careful not to scratch her with my claws as I helped her get her shirt off, while continuing to lick her skin, paying close attention to her nipples, making them go erect as my tongue stimulated them.

“Oh my… Chance…" She moaned.

As I made my way down her body, I started to remove her underwear, slipping them off and exposing her slit and gently tracing my claw around it, making her shiver. I could smell her scent, signaling her lust in this moment as I removed them, feeling her spread her legs more.

I put my nose next to it and inhaled deeply, taking in her sweet scent, letting out a growl of approval.

“May I?" I asked.

“D-Don't be shy…" She panted, looking down at me through half-open eyes.

I wasted no more time, pushing my muzzle against her entrance and forcing my long ursine tongue inside, producing an audible moan from her as I tasted her inner walls. I let out a satisfying growl as I savored the rich juices emanating from her slit, holding her legs open with my strong paws. I could hear her breathing as I ate her out, getting more labored the deeper I licked around inside her. I gently dragged my claws down one of her legs, I could smell just a hint of fear on her when I did that, but her scent of pleasure overpowered that.

For about ten minutes I lapped at her walls, smelling and tasting her sweet juices as my tongue pleasured her. I then felt her legs tense up and heard her let out a cry as she orgasmed and I happily moaned back at her as her fluids flowed into my mouth. I looked between her legs at her and licked my lips with a satisfied look. She moaned in response.

I then moved myself on top of her, my erect manhood at her entrance. I gave her one last look, making sure she was fine with what was about to happen. She just reached up and stroked my cheek in response. There was no doubt that she wanted this. I slowly pushed inside, making her moan softly as I penetrated her. I closed my eyes and focused on her tightness, my thick grizzly cock sliding into her narrow human entrance. I'd never been with a human before, this was opening up a strange new world to me, my brown fur against her hairless skin, my claws running gently down her back.

Once I was all the way in I began to slowly thrust in and out, moaning softly as her walls massaged my member.

“Mmmmmmmm…" I growled and ran my paw down her breast as she looked up at me, eyes filled with desire.

“Y-Your fur is so soft…" She moaned, hugging my large body closer to her.

I chuckled a little, I was guessing this was her first time with an Anthro.

I felt her warm breath on the side of my neck and gave hers a gentle nibble, starting to thrust into her faster, making her moan louder as I got closer to releasing into her womb.

Every second of this moment felt amazing, so new. It wasn't like I hadn't had sex before of course, even after my divorce. I'd spent a few nights with some working girls every so often, but this moment gave me something that I hadn't felt in a long time. This felt more to me than just cheap meaningless sex, we were two people who'd been hurt by someone we trusted, and in this moment, we were giving each other something we both needed.

I licked the side of her neck, letting my more animalistic side take over. Not even whispering anymore, just growling and grunting as I continued to push my length deep inside of her. I could feel pressure build up, knowing I was getting very close to releasing inside of her. I started thrusting a little faster, the walls of her entrance massaging my cock. I wrapped my strong arms around her and rubbed her back gently with my claws.

“Oh Chance…" She stroked the fur of my back before pulling me closer and kissing me deeply on my muzzle.

The kiss was filled with so much passion, her tongue dancing with mine in our mouths, making me thrust into her franticly, eager to fill her and make her mine.

"Ah! Ah! Ah!" She moaned into my muzzle as my tongue explored her mouth, she was so willing so ready to be filled by me, and I was ready too. I pushed hard inside her, each thrust pushing me a little closer.

With one final thrust I threw my head back and let out a roar as I came jets into her womb, with her orgasming a second time a long with me, crying out in unison with my roar. This was truly a climax if I ever felt one. She gripped the fur of my back tightly as I roared powerfully. I hadn't felt the need to roar like that in I don't know how long!

After our orgasms transpired we just stared at each other in silence, looking deeply into each other's eyes. There was no pain in hers now, she wasn't thinking at all about what happened in her past, only what was happening between us right here, right now. I tried to fight this feeling I'd been having for this girl but there was no denying it, I wanted her. I didn't want to let her go after we got to San Antonio. After this night, I felt like we both had a deep connection, not just from the sex, but from our similar troubled pasts.

"Th-Thank you Chance..." She whispered, stroking the fur of my neck.

I replied by giving her another kiss, but this one wasn't as passionate, just a simple peck against her lips. But it mean't so much all the same.

I rolled over, my member slipping out of her as I kept my arm around her body. She moaned as it slipped out and rested her head against my chest, rubbing it gently. As I held her close to me, letting her use my furred chest as a pillow, I slowly drifted back off to sleep.

I woke up the next morning to find no one next to me, not that I was surprised. Yup, she was gone, probably hitched a ride with one of the other truckers in the area. Well I just hoped she did alright wherever she ended up. I sighed deeply and started putting my underwear and pants on. I knew it was too good to be true… I thought to myself. Just as I started getting my jeans on the front door opened up and I saw her standing there.

My eyes widened with surprise, and a little happiness as I saw her standing there in the doorway.

“Oh, you're finally up." She said as she walked in. “Sorry, I was so hungry I couldn't wait for you to get up, so I went over to the diner and grabbed some breakfast."

“Oh… good…" I said, the relief that she was still here present in my voice.

“I decided to take a shower too." She said.

“Yeah, I should probably do the same." I said, slipping my pants back off. “Especially after… last night."

She blushed hard in response.

“That… wasn't a dream right?" I said.

“It wasn't…" She said with a smile, though I couldn't tell if it was sincere, or out of nervousness.

There was a bit of an awkward silence between us after that.

“Well… I'll just let you take a shower and I'll go back and wait for you in the diner." She said, walking back to the door.

“Okay, I'll meet you in there afterwards and get me some breakfast too." I said as she left out the door.

I stripped down and got into the shower. As I began to wash my fur with the soap I still couldn't stop thinking about her. I really was surprised that what happened last night wasn't just a one-night stand, let alone that it even happened at all.

I had to say I was surprised that our pasts were so similar. Yeah, I'd never suffered physical abuse by Erlinda like she had, but it was still a shitty relationship that I'd gotten out of, and it sounded like she still needed help getting out of hers, especially if she stole that shit from her boyfriend like she said.

As I finished up my shower I tried to shake this feeling I was having about her. It wasn't a bad feeling, quite the contrary, she was growing on me, and that's what was bothering me. I knew it wouldn't work out between us. With her being on the run from her abusive ex, and me being on the road most of the time for my job, it just wouldn't really work out…

After I got dressed, I headed into the diner and found her at a table drinking a cup of coffee.

“Hey." I said as I sat down, looking at the menu.

“Hi." She said. “Had a good shower?"

“Yeah, nice and refreshing." I said.

The waitress came over and I ordered a ham and cheese omelet and a coffee.

“I just wanted to say… thanks for last night." She said, putting her hand on my paw. “Not just for… y'know, but for listening to me. I haven't really told anyone about everything that's been happening except for my friend that's waiting for me in San Antonio… I even got rid of my phone, so he couldn't track me…" She looked away for a second.

“Fuck, this guy sounds like a real prick." I said, taking a drink of coffee.

“Yeah…" She looked out the window of the diner, as if she was remembering all the painful years she spent with that jack off.

Eventually my omelet arrived and I started eating.

“So, what are you going to do once I get you to San Antonio?" I asked.

“Stay with a friend of mine, maybe change my name, get a new job and get back on my feet… and pray to god that _he_doesn't track me down…"

“Damn… I, uh, I really hope you stay safe…" I said sincerely, finishing off my breakfast.

“Thanks." She smiled at me.

I got up and left some money for my check.

“Well, I think I've kept you waiting long enough." I said. “Better get back to the road if we're gonna get you, and that soda I'm carrying to San Antonio."

“Let's get going, then." She said. “And Chance…"

“Yeah?"

“Thanks for doing all of this for me…"

“No problem." I said.

She then gave me a quick kiss on the cheek before running off to the truck, making me blush heavily under my fur as I followed her to the truck.

We made it to San Antonio sooner than I figured we would once we left the diner, only took us about 2 or 3 hours. I started to get a little sad, knowing we'd be going separate ways after I dropped her off.

“So where do I drop you off?" I asked. “We're earlier than I thought we'd be, so I think I can drop you off, before I drop these sodas off."

“I'll direct you from here, just keep going."

“Alright…" I tried not to feel too bad, in the back of my mind I knew the was how this would end, still didn't make it any less painful.

“So… you said you live here in San Antonio, right?"

“Yeah, I do, I'm on the road most of the time, but it's nice to come back here and relax whenever I have some time off."

“In that case… I was wondering if you'd like to keep in touch?" She asked. “Take a left here."

“R-Really?" I asked, looking at her and then back to the road.

“Sure… you, uh, you seem like a nice guy, and… I'll be honest, I don't know if you feel the same, but that night was really something special." She rubbed my arm gently.

“So… you felt it too?" I asked.

“Yeah, and… I'm just really thankful that you helped me out when I needed it, even after I told you I stole that money and car…"

“Hey, that boyfriend of yours sounded like he deserved it." I chuckled.

“Ex-fiancé actually." She corrected, giggling. “Take a right here."

“So, you'd really like to keep in touch?" I asked.

“Sure, and seeing as I'm going to be here from indefinitely, maybe we can hang out more, when you have some time off? We're almost there, just keep driving straight."

“Uh, yeah that'd be great!" I said, my face was noticeably lightening up now. I was so happy this wasn't goodbye for good.

A few minutes later I pulled up next to her friend's house and got out of the truck with her.

“So, thanks again, Chance..." She hugged me. “For everything."

“You're welcome MJ." I wrapped my arms around her.

“…Krista." She said.

“Huh?" I asked, looking down at her.

“That's my real name." She winked.

“Ah, well," I dug into my pocket and got my note pad and a pen and jotted down my number for her. “keep in touch, Krista."

“Thanks, Chance."

She pulled me in for one last hug, before surprising me with a deep kiss on my muzzle. I closed my eyes as our tongues moved in and out of each other's mouths, rubbing her back gently with my paw. We held the kiss for about a minute before pulling away.

“Well, I'll let you go then." I said, giving her a warm smile.

“See you around Chance." She gave my arm a playful punch.

“Good luck, Krista." I said, waving goodbye before heading back to my truck.

I headed off to finish what I started and deliver the sodas to the grocery store, thinking about nothing else but Krista, hopeful that she'd be true on her word and keep in touch with me.
