Caleb shuddered with post-orgasmic pleasure and amazement. He'd never imagined a Doe to be so – well – words failed him. He had no way to express his feelings, his love for his beloved Doe, who flicked a black tipped ear and looked up at him. Her gaze was one of complete trust and devotion to him – it just reaffirmed their bonds.

“I love you too Jessica," Caleb smiled, as he tapped his lap.

Obediently, Jessica climbed to her hooves, then come and lay her head on his lap, nuzzling his belly with her cold nose.

Patches lifted her head over the neighbouring stable wall, before she snorted and slicked her ears back.

“I love you too Patches, you know I do, so stop that!" Caleb laughed softly. “You get your share of affections, so don't go making that face!"

Patches snorted again before returning to her grain, chewing it slowly and thoughtfully. Jessica bleated quietly, flagging her tail as she continued looking at Caleb with eagerness and pleasure.

“No honey," Caleb smiled, then ruffled her ears gently. “I need to go do my jobs around the farm, I know you want to be with me, but – well – can you be good for me honey? I'll come back later, I promise!"

Jessica bleated again, then nibbled at Caleb's throat, but he gently pushed her away and tapped her lightly on the nose. “No honey, be good, okay? Stay here! Stay! With Patches!"

With a snort, Patches expressed her thoughts on this, before Caleb stood and left the stable, locking the stall doors behind him.

Caleb worked hard on the farm, both by himself and with his father. As they finally put the days work behind them, both were hot, tired and sweaty. Caleb helped his father with preparing dinner, then Caleb made his way to the stall to feed Patches and Jessica.

“Here you go girls – Patches, you get yours, you greedy mare!" Caleb chuckled, as Patches eager nodded her head and whinnied at him.

When Caleb opened Jessica's stall, she trotted out and nuzzled him, then bleated softly and nuzzled at his chest, almost pushing him over.

“Hey!" Caleb chuckled. “Alright, I know, I know, it took longer than I expected, there's more to farm work than you two think, you know!"

Bleating again, Jessica nudged him again, more insistently.

“Yes Jessica, I know, you're hungry!" Caleb rolled his eyes, then went and retrieved her grain pellets, measuring them out into her dish.

Jessica followed him, as Patches looked up from her dinner then snorted and went back to eating.

“Patches, I swear love, you're getting a jealous streak! What's up with you?" Caleb moaned as he carried the bucket back to Jessica's stable, then lovingly stroked Patches forehead.

A loud bellow call come from nowhere, and Patches ears flicked, but Jessica blinked, then bleated long and loud in response.

“Woah, Jessica...honey?" Caleb squealed, nearly dropping the bucket.

Again, that call come, and Jessica trembled, before she looked up at Caleb, then at the barn door, then back at him, her body quivering.

“Jessica, what's wrong honey?" Caleb asked her, as he placed his hand on her quivering neck.

Jessica looked at him, then she nuzzled his belly, her indecision torn. She took a few steps away, froze, then ran back to him and nuzzled him again.

“It's a rutting stag - “ His father's voice come from behind. “Jessica's of that age now, where instincts are strong in her..."

“Dad..." Caleb squealed, jumping in fright. “I didn't hear you come in..."

“No, I imagine not - “ His father laughed quietly, then walked down the hallway, before pausing and looking at Patches, who nickered at him and playfully lipped at his fingers.

With a sigh, his father crouched down and seemed to take a moment, before he sighed and shook his head sadly.

“Son, this isn't easy to say..."

Stroking Jessica's neck, Caleb looked at his father. “What do you mean - “

“Jessica, whilst she loves you, I can see that – you raised her from a fawn, now she's an adult, she's in season – it doesn't take rocket science to figure out that! Now, she needs something which you – can not give her..."

“I - “ Caleb stammered, eyes widening.

With a weak laugh, his father drew idle patterns in the dirt of the barn, then he nodded. “I know son, believe me – I've known for a long time...about you and Patches..."

“You...knew?" Caleb moaned, as his knees turned to jelly and he fell back against the wall, then slid down to the ground.

Jessica bleated at him, then laid down and rested her head on his lap.

“I have known son...I'm – I'm not angry with you, please, believe me – I know what you're going through. I do, I'm – like you...you understand? I had my own lover when I was your age. For twenty five years, I had a beautiful paint mare. I raised her from birth, bonded to her, as she bonded to me. One thing lead to another and – so – yes, I understand... I can see how Patches responds to you. It's not hard to tell, believe me."

“You...I mean you..." Caleb moaned, frightened and confused.

With a weak laugh, his father nodded. “What, you think you're the only country boy, who had feelings for his companions on the farm? Having feelings is a wonderful trait – it is! However, like me, thankfully, you're – discrete about your other feelings towards Patches...and I suspect – Jessica..."

“I - “ Caleb shuddered. “Yes..."

“I won't lie to you son, you've always been honest with me, so I'll be honest with you. Yes, I've known for years, that you and Patches are – well – intimate. I respect your bonds with her, I'd never try anything with Patches, but I know – how a mare responds to intimacies with her human partner...believe me – I know...."

“Dad, I don't - “ Caleb whispered, eyes wide before he wrapped his arms around Jessica's neck and involuntarily squeezed her, making her squeal.

“Son? Please, listen to me. I know what you and that doe share, its a beautiful, personal thing. She loves you, and you love her. Your bond, well, its not normal – others wouldn't understand. I understand, as I had it myself with many companions over the years. Just – please – listen to me. Jessica is in season, or close too it. She is filled with urges and hormones, the urge to breed in deer can be quite strong. I know she loves you dearly, shares herself freely and willingly. I can't begin to imagine, how it feels – to lay with a deer, like a man does a woman... I just can't begin to imagine it."

“I...her, Jessica I mean – we're – we're lovers, I can't lie dad, and I won't start now. She is – beautiful, gentle, such a kind, sweet creature. I adore and love Patches – in just the same way."

Patches lifted her head over the stall door, then snorted and flicked her ears. Caleb looked at her and laughed nervously.

“You're such a liar Patches, you know well I share myself with you, as you do with me honey...now, shush, please?"

Patches snorted, then tossed her head and returned to eating her grain.

“Son, I know you love Jessica, I do – I see it all the time, how close she is bonded to you, and you to her – but she must make her own decision, please? I suspect, she will find a stag, a proud, noble beast – breed herself with him – but she will return to you, you're her reason for living and her lover...now, come on – let her make her choice, please?"

“How..." Caleb began, then his resolve broke and he burst into tears, burying his face against Jessica's soft fur of her neck.

“Its not easy son, believe me – Jessica loves you, but she must experience the wilds – she is, at her core, a wild creature. She loves you, you adore her – but for her happiness, please, you got to let her live her life. I'm certain – she will come back – maybe in an hour, a day, a month..."

“What if she never comes back?" Caleb wept, clutching Jessica tight.

“Then that is her choice son – if she doesn't, remember her fondly and with love. It will hurt – gods know it'll hurt – but remember the years you had with her. As a little spotted fawn, feeding her, cuddling her before the fireplace...watching her grow up, into the beautiful, sweet, gentle creature she is now."

Rising, his father dusted himself off, then rested a trembling hand on his sobbing son's head.

“Please – let her make her choice..."

Caleb sniffled, then wiped his hands over his eyes, before he rose and walked to the stable door, hesitating. Jessica followed obediently, thinking she was going for a walk, but she smelt his scent, knew her strange, two legged buck was sad and hurting – and she was confused and upset. Opening the stable door, Caleb stepped outside, then he turned and pulled Jessica close, as the tears began again.

“Honey..." He began, then tried to be brave, before he looked into her dark, soulful eyes. “I love you, and I know, in your own way, you love me. It is through this love – I let you be free. I will always remember you, truly. If you decide to come back – you'll always find a warm place in the barn, I promise. If you do not – know I love you...and always will...now, please, go...go find your own fate...I love you..."

Jessica was torn – her bond to this human – or the wilds she had longingly looked at and wanted. She took a few hesitant steps away, before she looked back at him, then she began to turn back.

“Go, please..." Caleb sniffled, trying so hard to be brave for her.

Jessica trembled, before she looked long at him – and both Caleb and his father seen the single tear that slid down her muzzle, glimmering in the moonlight. When Caleb smacked his hands together, Jessica squealed and ran, her body flickering – then she hurdled the rail fence and vanished into the moonlit night....

“You did the right thing, Son..." His father spoke, his voice husky with his own repressed emotions.

“If I did...why does it hurt so much?" Caleb wailed, then clutched his father tight.

Holding his son, Caleb's father held him and nodded slowly, his own tears beginning to flow. “It always does son...it always does..."
