#1 of The Gates of Heaven and Hell
This is the prologue to a series I plan on getting published, may be the only part you guys get to see for free so enjoy it, also it's the last thing I'll be uploading other than updates on my old series, and my new series known as the tournament of Demaria island for a while.
The Gates of Heaven and Hell
Prologue: The Afterlife Projects
Robert Daniels sat down at the computer terminal and uploaded the data into his personal terminal silently hoping no one took notice of what he was doing, or the fact that he had yet again brought his personal computer to the lab. He hoped that if anyone had noticed they wrote it off as him doing nothing more than bringing the files he'd left off the original files. He nodded to himself as he loaded the seven sinners into his laptop then the hell-gate code and encoded all seven so virtually no one could hack them knowing that it would be one of the few ways to keep himself when everything was said and done with. He nodded to himself as he slowly pulled out a watch pulled out a watch with an usb port on the side then plugged an usb cord into the side and uploaded a single program called "fallen angel" into it.
He watched as the data was uploaded, then blinked as his superior walked up. Robert quickly slipped it into his pocket as his superior said "Professor Daniels, how is the arch angel program coming?" Robert smiled then said "Ready to go sir, I don't know who you want to upload it to. In all honesty I think the only ones who I think could handle the moral codes Mr. Robertson, are Danny, Andrea, and Romanda." Mr. Robertson laughed darkly and said "No we're going to load it into Lydia; I believe she'll make the perfect test subject. What about the seven sins? Have you finished testing them?" Slowly Robert shook his head, and Mr. Robertson sighed then said "No worries Robert, You'll be finished soon enough. When you are we'll begin implementing the afterlife project in full. Speaking of which, you haven't told anyone about what you do, have you?"
Robert quickly shook his head resisting the urge to check the watch in his pocket and mumbled softly "No sir, I have no one I'd tell anyway. I live alone, and sadly my only family is my nephew who doesn't even know I exist." Mr. Robertson nodded and patted his shoulder then walked out of the room smiling as if at some inner joke. Robert sighed as he left then pulled out the watch and hooked it back up to the computer to finish its download as he started typing away in another window that worked on a corresponding program that created specialized serums. Each serum corresponded to a different program and was only activated when the program's electrical impulses were sent into the brain. Robert wasn't sure how he'd worked out the algorithm; he just knew that he and his old partner David Jamison had somehow managed it before David's untimely death five years ago Robert still doubted what the company said about David's death being an accident but he was unwilling to let the project continue without him, so he continued to do what it took to make it work.
He gently tapped his battered laptop and mumbled a soft swear under his breath as the computer asked for a component for the fallen angel serum that he'd yet to think of properly. He studied it slowly then sighed and typed in the algorithm that David had told him would turn an angel's wings black and blinked as it actually worked. Finally a black vial popped out of the machine and on the screen popped up a text box saying "Compound stable, ready for injection into test subject Zero - Zero - Zero." David nodded to himself and slipped the vial out then slipped it into his coat and sealed it carefully before placing it into a box he knew would protect it from breaking it and mumbled a few, choice swears under his breath as the computer beeped announcing the finish of his earlier download. He quickly unplugged the watch and put it into the box with the vial the then put the two together along with a simple letter saying "To whom it may concern." For he had the feeling he wouldn't last much longer than tonight.
Robert sighed sadly as he slowly started working on the rest of the vials, knowing that they would be his life's work, and the vial he just created would be their downfall. He blinked as his phone went off the moment he finished typing out the algorithm for lust's code and he quickly answered it. On the other end of the line his nephew Jason said "Hey Uncle Robert, I'll be at your lab to pick you up tomorrow, you didn't forget again, right?" Robert smiled sadly thinking his nephew was sadly misguided to think he'd find him at all then said "No Jason I didn't forget, though now isn't the best time. If you must come out here however, I guess I will see you tomorrow night. I'll have my usual equipment and you can keep your stuff at my home. I know your flight probably just got in town so don't hesitate to make yourself at home in my place." Jason laughed and thanked him then hung up and he smiled then sighed and quickly got back to work. After about three, maybe four hours Robert finally finished his work on the programming algorithms and switched over to working on their corresponding weapons, and serums.
He started with lusts not caring about the poor victim of the serum only wondering what the serum itself would do to them, when it completely overtook their personality. He slowly nodded to himself as he finally decided that the best thing to give them, for that eventuality, was a special pendant shaped like a heart that could change into a heart piercing blade of flame. From there he moved on to Wrath. He smiled to himself as he saw the original program for wrath's weapon being a blade made of bone and shifted it to being a pair of gauntlets that could change into any weapon that the wielder's wrath demanded of them. Next was Envy, for Envy he created a simple mask that could take on the appearance of anyone or anything, and a mirror that could take the abilities of anyone or anything and use them. However after each use, both mask and mirror had to be recharged.
Fourth was Greed, for greed he made a simple coin that could actually warp the very space around him and make it his own. Robert wasn't sure where the company had found the material to do all this, but he knew that it was possible because they'd told him "If you dream up something impossible that seems like it goes with a demon or monster, give it to them." Fifth was Gluttony who he gave a simple vine that would devour anything and give the nutrients to the holder. Sixth was Sloth, for Sloth he created a simple ball that would put the victim into a never ending sleep where Sloth could devour their dreams. Finally we had the most dangerous of the sins Pride. He knew he had to be careful with pride, for he himself had fallen victim to its embrace in the past, as had many of his colleagues. Pride is the hardest sin to see in oneself, and yet the easiest to accept so he smiled sadly and said softly "For Pride, I will make your weapon a mixture of all the gems that the others will carry upon them, telling them that you are there superior. However, even you will bow before the gate keepers, the arch angel, the dark god, and the angel of death."
Robert finished coding the weapon specs then quickly copied everything into his computer along with the programs he'd just mused to himself about. He closed up his personal terminal and slipped it into his briefcase, along with the box he'd slipped into his pocket earlier, then locked it memorizing the code to open the first gate which would in turn activate all the programs other than the seven sins, which would be activated as soon as Mr. Robertson walked in and took the files off his office computer. Suddenly an alarm went off and the entire compound's light systems went red. After about ten minutes the system lights flashed green then went back to a pale white color and a metallic female voice said "Crisis averted. Please return to lab stations and continue all projects." Robert nodded to himself and opened his laptop then put a special kill code into the laptop that when he next opened it, it would instantly shut down all active programs, including the seven deadly sins until someone chose to release them upon the world.
He knew it was risky, but he had the feeling the next time he opened his briefcase would be his last; sadly, he didn't know just how right he was. A few minutes later Mr. Robertson walked into the lab and copied the seven deadly sins information into seven almost non-descript items. The first was a locket that was shaped like a broken heart set with a ruby, the second was a simple pair of gloves set with a pair of sapphires that were so dark deep a blue you would almost think they were black, the next was a simple mask and hand mirror that were set with a pair of emeralds that were the darkest green Robert had ever seen, Fourth was a simple gold coin inscribed with the word "Avarice" on both sides.
Fifth was an orange ribbon adorned with citrine and orange moonstone, shaped much like the vine he'd envisioned and he wondered if Mr. Robertson had had much the same thoughts he himself had about the sins, Sixth was a giant purple amethyst shaped like a ball and easy to roll around on ones palm. Finally seventh was a cloak made of each of these materials with an empty scabbard attached to it as well as a gold pommel containing Sapphire, Amethyst, Citrine, Ruby, Emerald, Topaz, and at the very center of the pommel was a large piece of jet cut to look like a diamond. Robert stared at it all while Mr. Robertson read his worked then Mr. Robertson let out a laugh and said "You and your partner's idea of the sins' tools matched perfectly. I knew you made the perfect team. I'll go hand these to the lucky contestants, then you and your 'assistant' can come and give them their 'inoculations'." Robert nodded and watched him go then made the seven serums noticing that Pride's serum was white instead of black and wondering what kind of effect that would have then shook his head and called "DONNA!!"
A girl with auburn hair and a pair of dog ears on her head came running into the room with a husky tail wagging behind her. She smiled at him and said "Yes Professor Daniels?" Robert sighed as he watched her and noticed that she still couldn't quite hide that she wasn't a normal human she'd been the first test subject for any of their experiments and David had called her their first great success. She'd been David's pet husky and they'd tested a serum to turn animals into full humans on her. They'd then changed the serum a bit and tried it on David's sister's horse Charles turning him into what she called a "furry", the test had been a success. Charles made David's sister Mary's life much easier because he could still understand the livestock and translate their problems to both Mary and the local vet. Sadly due to that Mary and Charles entire stock had been transferred to a secret facility until the country was ready for widespread Anthros, which from what they said would be as soon as project hell's gate was a success.
Robert shook his head dragging himself out of his reverie then said "I need you to grab the seven guns for the sins. It's time to 'inoculate' the patients and activate their programming." Donna nodded with her ears down then ran to did as she was told. She wasn't the brightest girl, but she knew how to follow orders. Robert watched her go and mumbled "She's not the only one with a bad feeling. I really hope Jason doesn't get here until after this is over, and maybe when he leaves I'll have him take her with him." He smiled at the thought then motioned for Donna to walk over as she brought up the guns and put each one into the corresponding color coded gun. They weren't truly guns, more like specialized needles that turned the serum into a mist that traveled through the blood stream at a higher rate. They were a modified version of the ones used years ago by many medical and military facilities.
The two of them then walked throughout the facility until they reached a room with seven people sitting on seven chairs each one color coded to the guns they held within their grasps. The girl on the red chair had long raven hair that fell down to her waist, luscious lips, light blue eyes that seem to draw in anyone's soul, and a figure that matched her eyes and hair. She stood at an average five foot five inches tall. Next to her sat a man with arms built like a body builder, dark grey eyes that burned with an inner fire of anger and hatred, his hair was a dark black that looked as if someone had placed fresh charcoal upon his head. He stood at about seven foot tall, and the girl next to him was diminutive in comparison. To the right of him was a person who Robert couldn't be sure if they were a man or woman. The hair was about shoulder length, the face was non-descript, the clothes were plain, and the eyes were a simple light green that you could find on just about anyone in the world now a-days. They also only stood at an average five foot six five to five foot eight.
In the center sat a giant white chair that could only be Pride so Robert skipped over it and glanced to the right where a bright yellow chair sat and a man flipped a coin over and over again. He had light blonde hair, silver eyes that seemed to want to engulf everything they saw, an extravagant shirt and pants that were made of silk and were obviously hand tailored, he was about six foot even and he radiated an aura of want. Next to him was a man gnawing on a chicken leg and sitting in a large orange chair. He was wearing a bright orange t shirt and jeans that fit his frame, which was rather muscular despite showing a bit of what people would call a beer belly. He was slightly taller than the man next to him and radiated an aura of hunger. His eyes were a dusky grey, and his teeth were slightly sharper than a normal person's, and his face was a bit more bestial. His hair was a bright orange and almost seemed to catch the light like it contained an inner fire.
Next to him was a girl wearing an overly large purple t shirt and t shorts that fit her shapely legs, sitting in a purple chair. She yawned tiredly and rubbed her eyes then glanced around from under bangs and mumbled "Is the doctor here yet, I want to go back to my room." She was rather attractive with light brown hair falling down to just below her shoulders, purple eyes that were a shade lighter than her t shirt, well - manicured nails, and seemed to be about an inch or two shorter than the girl in the red chair. Robert watched then slowly glanced at the person in the White chair and studied them. The man sitting there was by no means the tallest, nor did he look the most dangerous when it came to muscle yet the aura he gave off made the others seem like domestic dogs in comparison.
He was about Five foot Nine to Five foot Eleven; he had jet black hair that reminded one of a midnight sky when the moon had gone down. His eyes were as black as his hair, and quite probably as dark as his soul. They seemed to completely engulf and devour the light of anyone who looked into them. He wore a simple yet elegant black suit and tie that spoke volumes about how confident he was in his own appearance. Where the man in the yellow chair tried to impress and sought power, this man believed he had all the power in the world and didn't fear to use it. He smiled as he saw Robert looking at him and that smile seemed to say "I know what you're thinking, and you're right, I am the most dangerous man here." Robert shook his head then continued to study the man. He was more relaxed than the others and where the others seemed to be anxious about what was coming he was...expectant. Eventually Robert moved over to the girl in the red chair and pulled out the red gun the motioned for her to hold out her hand. She slowly did as he asked with a wink while Donna growled at her as if to say "Back off girl, he's mine!"
Robert shook his head and injected the serum then tossed the gun to Donna when it was empty before moving on to the next one. The man in the blue chair, that was almost black smiled and said softly "I was waiting for this." Then held out his arm and let Robert inject him without another sound. The next was the androgynous figure in the green chair who, just smirked at Robert then let out a soft giggle that could have been male or female as the serum entered their veins. Robert walked past the man who would receive Pride's injection and instead walked up to Greed's candidate who had his arms wide and actually looked anxious to get his shot. Robert shot him in the bicep and his smiled then leaned back looking relaxed at the thought of even more power then he turned to the man who was munching the chicken leg and held out a hand casually without looking up without looking up from his leg of fowl. Robert shook his head and shot him in the arm with the shot. The man didn't flinch he just took another bite out of the chicken then finished it and tossed the bone looking for more food.
He turned to the girl who'd turned in her sleep and had let her shirt slip down a bit exposing some of her cleavage. Robert blinked then shot the serum into her shoulder causing her to wake up and say "Hey No fair I was having a nice dream!" then she realized who it was and hugged him. Robert blinked and started to ask what she was doing and said "Hi Uncle Robert. Daddy said you would continue the project even if he passed on, I didn't know if he was right or not. I just wish you'd woken me up first!" She pouted and Robert smiled slightly then said "Sorry Jenny, but I have some good news Jason's coming to visit the lab tomorrow so you'll get to see him. I know it's been a few years." Jenny nodded then let go of him and fell right back asleep mumbling softly. Robert slowly turned as he pulled out the white syringe and walked up to Pride who held out his hand for the syringe himself. Robert handed it to him slowly and Pride slammed it into his arm then pulled the trigger and smirked. As it flowed into his veins he smiled at Robert and said "Now it's time to let things begin, and allow the gates of hell to open."
That was when Robert realized the mistake they'd made by choosing people who seemed to already be modern embodiments of the sins. They were in essence creating a modern apocalypse, and they hadn't realized it until it was too late. He ran for the door as Mr. Robertson walked in and yelled "DON'T ACTIVATE THEIR PROGRAMMING!!!! IF YOU DO WE WON'T GET OUT OF HERE ALIVE!!!! THE SERUM IS TO STRONG, AND THEY THEMSELVES ARE THE SINS INCARNATE!!!!!" Pride laughed ignoring him and motioned for wrath to get their equipment while he leaned back in his chair. Robert ran past Mr. Robertson knowing it was too late for the poor fool, the moment he'd picked the incarnations of the sins in modern times. Robert ran through the hallways toward his lab with Donna in tow as the sound of screaming began behind them. They got to Robert's lab about the same time that Wrath had finished slaughtering Mr. Robertson's goons and handed out everyone's weapons.
The only one who seemed averse to actually killing was Sloth aka Jenny who would just put her victims to sleep, however that just meant more fun for everyone else. Suddenly Pride walked out of the lab where they'd been held and said softly "Find the doctor. He's not among the bodies, which means he knew what was going to happen. If he gets away the world will know what happened here and will prepare for us. We can't have that happen. I want them to be as in the dark as possible when we actually start taking over." The other five slowly nodded and Sloth just mumbled in her sleep then shook her head as she finally woke up and glanced around. Jenny blinked and stared at the corpses then glared at Pride and said softly "You're so lucky our abilities don't work on you Pride. Just remember anytime you sleep you enter my domain." Pride nodded knowing that to try and harm Sloth was the most dangerous and foolish thing any of them could do then watched as she turned and walked off to her room.
Meanwhile Envy took on the shape of Mr. Robertson and started looking for all the upper management members of the facility knowing they'd cause problems later on, while Lust went after every attractive member of the staff while trying to find out if they knew where Robert was, Wrath destroyed everything that was in his way while he looked for Robert, Gluttony walked straight to the cafeteria, Greed took everything he wanted while looking for Robert since the old bastard probably knew how to get even more power. Donna heard them approaching and hid in a locker shivering at Robert's order as he turned to face the door waiting. Pride walked in wielding a sword made of diamond with the gems on the pommel glowing with energy. He smirked at Robert and said softly "Hello Father, so my dear Cousin is indeed coming to the facility? I'll have to be ready to place my new blade in his heart then."
Robert smiled and said softly "You're cousin will surprise you Zane. Then again, you completely surprised me when you changed into such a proud and vengeful beast just from a little promotion." Zane Daniels, the man who would cast his name away and become known as Pride, smiled darkly and said softly "You may be right, so I should probably make sure that you can't warn him of what I plan." He swung the sword four times and with each swing a line of crimson appeared upon his father's body and started weeping crimson tears. Robert coughed up a stream of blood as the blade cut deep the last time then whispered softly "I knew you would betray me." Robert slowly fell onto his face as his son turned and walked away with a laugh flicking the blade clean of blood and sheathing it in its scabbard.
As soon as Pride left the room Donna ran out of the locker and helped him to his feet then the two of them slipped out of the compound with Robert coughing up blood every couple dozen feet or so. After a while they finally reached the edge of the gate and saw headlights approaching. Donna glanced at Robert who motioned for her to set him down and she slowly did so. He opened his laptop and pressed a button then said softly "Close hell's gate via project seven- seven - six - nine." The laptop shut down and the briefcase clicked closed. He smiled slightly and said "Donna we have to get to that car, get it to turn around, and then get home. We have to make sure Jason doesn't come to the lab tomorrow."
Donna nodded and helped the professor to the road then he limped out toward the car which slowly pulled over as the driver flipped open the passenger side door and said "Holy Hell, are you ok sir?" Robert blinked and started to say something then closed his eyes and thought "I can't believe Jason came even though I told him not to, well maybe he can fix the curse that I started. I thought it would be Zane, but I was wrong." Jason stared at Robert for a few seconds then said softly "Uncle, is that you?" Robert smiled and said softly "Hello Jason, I have a lot to tell you, and little time to do it, but for now. Let's go home." He slid into the car and slowly closed the door behind him coughing up blood as the two slowly drove home not knowing just how little time they truly had.
