Chapter 25: Dragon's Love

“I have been waiting for you." The words sounded right in Veledar's head. He had only been sitting there thinking about them for the last few minutes as Arcturus had wandered around the cave with the blue gryphon Krotos. He had sat and watched them, invisible to their eyes. He nearly had called out to his human as he felt Arcturus' desperation sink into the human's heart. He had felt it over the last few days as well, as he tried his best to avoid the searching human. Each time he had sensed Arcturus he had made sure to turn invisible and fly away. For he had not been ready to face him. Every time he had closed his eyes and thought back to his human he had pictured the dead mother he had never known, and his brother he loved, all thanks to the Lunds.

“Veledar..." Arcturus took one tentative step forward, his voice nearly cracking as his feelings spread from him to Veledar like an overpowering wave of emotion. One of relief, joy, and love. Yet you continued to force this meeting between us."

Veledar nodded. “I love you as well my human." He pointed to the small section of the floor that the cloak had been laid upon. “I slept there with your cloak pressed tightly against my snout so I could breathe in your scent. It was the most comforting sleep I have had in the past few days." Veledar thought to the first lonely nights where his heart had ached as if someone had stabbed it with a sword.
